True Weakness
Thank you to @laffy-taffy-creations for helping me come up with the title!
“Darling,” Whumper called, opening the door to Whumpee’s room, “breakfast’s ready.”
The little lump under the blankets didn’t move. Whumper tutted, then spoke again.
“Whumpee, my love,” they said, “if you weren’t awake before, my voice should’ve roused you now. Come along.”
As they spoke, Whumper crossed the room to their darling’s bedside. When Whumpee still didn’t respond, a frown crept into Whumper’s features.
“Whumpee, you know how I feel about being ignored-”
Whumper pulled back the covers and nearly recoiled at what they saw. Whumpee’s eyes were shut in restless sleep, their breathing was labored, and their beautiful face contorted in discomfort as red splotches stained their usually flawless skin. Whumper put a hand to their forehead; the heat radiating there was all the confirmation they needed.
“My dearest, how long have you been like this?” they whispered to themselves.
Whumpee whimpered in their sleep, unconsciously leaning into their captor’s cool touch. Whumper crouched down at their side and cupped their too-warm face.
“Whumpee, please wake up for me,” they whispered.
Slowly, Whumpee’s eyes fluttered open, revealing glassy irises beneath half-closed lids. Whumper breathed a sigh of relief, at least they were able to rouse them.
“You’re burning up, my darling,” they said, “how are you feeling?”
Whumpee whimpered in response, their eyes screwing shut as they nuzzled further into Whumper’s hands.
“Talk to me, what hurts?”
Whumpee looked up at them with the most pitiful expression.
“Everything,” they croaked hoarsely.
There was an unnatural gravel to their voice, and it looked like just speaking was causing them pain.
“I’m afraid I might have to take you to a doctor,” Whumper decided, “are you going to behave for me?”
Whumper didn’t wait for their response; they hoisted Whumpee up into a bridal carry. At this point, Whumpee would usually protest, but their current state had made them miserably docile. Whumper brought them to the car and laid them in the passenger’s seat. They buckled their seatbelt for them and closed their door. Once in the driver’s seat, Whumper sped off to the nearest town. The benefit of living in a large cabin in a private forest was no one would bother them and their darling, but the privacy did have its downsides, especially in situations like this.
Whumpee had fallen asleep on the way home. Whumper gently carried them inside and tucked them back into bed. Strep throat, the doctor had said, and a pretty bad case of it, too. Whumper had no idea how Whumpee had gotten it, they had always been so careful to keep them as healthy as possible. Whumper felt utterly ashamed of themselves for letting this happen, and as they opened the bag of medicine Whumpee had been prescribed, they fought the urge to cry. Gently, they shook their shoulder.
“Mmm,” Whumpee groaned.
“I’m sorry my love, but I need you to take some of this.”
Whumper poured some medicine onto a spoon. Whumpee looked down at the thick, sticky liquid, then back up at Whumper pleadingly.
“I know, I know,” Whumper said, “but you have to take it. It’s going to help you feel better. You do want to feel better, don’t you?”
Whumper slipped a hand behind Whumpee’s back and lifted them into a sitting position. Whumpee’s mouth fell open, allowing them to feed them the medicine.
With great difficulty, and quite the grimace, Whumpee swallowed. Whumper quickly offered them a glass of water, which they drained in a matter of seconds. Whumper then lowered them back into bed.
“I’ll let you get your rest,” they said, “you’re going to need it.”
Whumper turned to leave, but a weak hand shot out from under the covers and grabbed their sleeve. Whumper turned, their brows going up in surprise. Whumpee looked just as shocked as them.
“What is it, darling?”
“…S-Stay?”
Whumper melted on the spot. They crawled in bed next to their little Whumpee, holding them close. The germs could go fly a kite. This was the first time Whumpee had actually wanted Whumper to be with them. Maybe Whumper should let them get sick more often…

"You need to eat, love"
"No...no, please", A begs in a hoarse whisper.
The poor thing wraps their hand around their terribly sore throat. Swallowing hurts, talking hurts, even breathing hurts. Eating is the last of their worries.
"But you need energy to fight strep", B tries to reason. It breaks their heart to see their partner so sick.
A just shakes their head, tears forming in their eyes. They don't want to eat, even swallowing their own saliva is too much at the moment. And their fever is making them a little emotional.
B pets their head. "I'll bring you a popsicle. And maybe a milkshake. Those should soothe your throat and fill you up enough so I can give you your first round of antibiotics. You'll be better soon, I promise."
A sighs. Feeling better is the only thing they want right now.

》 God I hope once my Iron gets better my immune system does because it’s ruining me. I’m always sick it sucks
》 I still will post saved drafts I have though but I’m not well enough to write new posts
》 That’s why I’m slow to answer emails/messages
Forgive me please I’m trying to answer you all 💙

Random germaphobia question:
How likely is it that I will get sick from hanging out with someone with strep?
They are on day 4 after symptoms started, and on medication for it. Their immune system might be weaker than others.

Coit has the Flu B and Strep. We spent last night, well til 7am, in the ER when his fever spiked to 103.5 and he was screaming in pain(he hasn’t cried like that in years).I tried to keep @heavyhitterheaux updated like she asked and tried to rest.

We ended up back at urgent care at noon today because his fever spiked. We are back home, we are both in my bed, and now I feel like I’m coming down with it as well which means no work.
I’m over this week.

Centor criteria (determines the need for strep testing and culture): 1 point for fever, tonsillar exudates, tender anterior cervical lymph nodes, absence of cough, and age <15. Subtract 1 point if age >44. Score of -1 to 1: no antibiotic, no throat culture. Score of 2 or 3: throat culture, treat with antibiotic if throat culture is positive. Score of 4 or 5: treat empirically with antibiotic. Complication sof strep throat include acute rheumatic fever, and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. Tx of strep throat will prevent acute rheumatic fever, but will not prevent post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.
From UpToDate:
Importance of treatment – Group A Streptococcus (GAS), or Streptococcus pyogenes, is the leading bacterial cause of tonsillopharyngitis in adults and children worldwide. GAS is one of the few causes of tonsillopharyngitis or pharyngitis for which antibiotic treatment is recommended.
The goals of antibiotic therapy for GAS pharyngitis include symptom relief, preventing complications, and preventing transmission to others.
●Whom to treat – We recommend antibiotic treatment for any patient with symptomatic pharyngitis or tonsillopharyngitis who has a positive rapid antigen test or culture for GAS (Grade 1A). We generally do not treat patients who do not have microbiologic confirmation of infection or who are chronic carriers.
●Treatment recommendations
•Preferred treatment for adults – For most adults, we treat with oral penicillin V 500 mg two to three times daily for a total of 10 days. Penicillin is the treatment of choice for GAS pharyngitis due to its efficacy, safety, narrow spectrum, and low cost.
•Preferred treatment for children – For most children, we use either oral penicillin V or amoxicillin. Amoxicillin is often preferred for young children because the taste of the amoxicillin suspension is more palatable than that of penicillin.
•Treatment for patients with a history of acute rheumatic fever – For patients with a history of acute rheumatic fever or for those who may not adhere to oral therapy, we select among oral penicillin, oral amoxicillin, or a single dose of intramuscular penicillin based on drug availability, cost, and patient values and preferences.
•Alternatives for patients who cannot tolerate penicillin – Cephalosporins, clindamycin, and macrolides are alternatives for patients who are allergic to penicillin or who cannot otherwise tolerate penicillin. Selection among these agents is based on the nature of the drug allergy or intolerance and local antibiotic resistance rates.
●Symptom resolution and return to work – Fever and sore throat typically resolve within one to three days. Most patients can return to work, school, or daycare after 12 to 24 hours of antibiotic therapy, provided they are afebrile and otherwise well.
A test of cure is usually not needed for patients who are asymptomatic at the end of a course of antibiotic therapy, except for those with a history of acute rheumatic fever or in other special circumstances.
●Management of persistent symptoms after a course of antibiotics – For patients who have persistent or recurrent symptoms after completing a course of antibiotic therapy, we repeat microbiologic testing when symptoms are compatible with GAS infection. Because chronic GAS carriage can occur after antibiotic therapy, we generally avoid testing in patients who have symptoms that are more compatible with viral pharyngitis or other etiology.
For patients with microbiologically proven recurrent or persistent GAS pharyngitis, we repeat a 10-day course of antibiotic therapy (Grade 2C) and generally select an antibiotic that has greater beta-lactamase stability than the one used initially. Tonsillectomy is rarely indicated for such patients.
●Prophylaxis for patients with a history of acute rheumatic fever – Antibiotic prophylaxis is used for patients with a history of acute rheumatic fever because these patients are at high risk for recurrence and for the development of chronic valvular heart disease. Antibiotic prophylaxis is not recommended for chronic carriers, except in special circumstances.

💙Heya, just a check in!💙
Sorry for the long silence, but a lot has happened these past 5 days. To start, as many of you may already know, I tested positive for both COVID and Strep last Thursday. I had to spend money on a hotel stay, since I’m in a bad place with my family at the moment. Not to mention, I unintentionally spread The Big Sick to one of my relatives, when symptoms were mild and I thought it was just allergies. And my apology text didn’t do any favors, so now she’s pretty mad at me. And to add to that, my finances are now lower than I planned on, due to hotel and college expenses. So yeah, on top of sickness, I’m not feeling too hot!
On the bright side, however, I’m on the road to ending my 5-day quarantine tomorrow. I just need to check with a doctor about my breathing. It may just be nervousness from all this, but I want to be absolutely sure (which will be more money out of my funds, but it is what it is, I guess). Hopefully all checks out as fine and, by next month, I can mend broken bridges with my family member and get back to normality.
