Yeah, but that actually goes for a lot of the monster objects, (minty, traffic cone, and ofcourse sharps.) just having red highlights isn't what that means.

Characters are show having "wide eyes" mostly for comedic reasons, but its different with mushroom and a few other characters.

Even in normal circumstances her eyes are completely diffrent from dynamites, and most other characters.

This frame probably highlights the difference the best. (This frame is also the highlight of my day)

Citrus has red pupils. Spool has black pupils, but the faux object has red eye whites.

Catch my drift?

What is a faux object?

I just have theorize with what we do know

Which is basically all from this dialouge

The "big red eyes" quote made me think of mushroom.

So in the other theory post about faux objects i was trying to figure out what that IS

Basically all of this is theories, none of it confirmed, but here are some kinda assumptions i made to help make stuff line up

1. Mushroom is a faux object

2. Pilobus is a faux object (this one is a stretch. But his children defenitely are)

3. Mushrooms mom (and cattails wife) is a faux object

4. Faux objects can reproduce with normal objects (they can also "reproduce" asexually [or at least some of them? This is the big question] i think; more on that in a sec)

With all that i tried to make some kind of story?

Pilobus, not able to have a child with cobalt, evolved to be able to reproduce asexually.

His children were all "faux" objects (but not neccesarrily the only ones). They had a (possibly dormant) ability to reproduce asexually.

An uncertain amount of time passes, and cattail accidentally marries a faux object.

--From here im going to split the story into two possibilities, i found both possible.--

Cattail and his wife go to the spawning stones, and their child, gaining traits similar to a cattail, and a 'faux object' trait from her mother.

This particular set made her incredibly similar to pilobus.

Her stange mix of genes combined into the overarching trait "mycellium".

Or...

Cattail and his wife, travel to the outskirts and place their hands on the obelisk.

But the symbols will not glow for cattails wife.

She admits a secret she's kept, shexs been a faux object, Cattail loves her all the same, but is heavily dissapointed in their incompatibility.

She tells him of another way, from a story she heard of a pair of lovers in a very similar situation.

She warns using this method must stay a secret, to avoid her own persecution. She and Cattail have a child through fairytales.

Cattail and his wife raise the child, leaving the story of her dubious birth untold.

Little did they know that their method created not a child, nor a clone, but a faux object. With abilities just like the story from whence she came, "mycellium"

Long story short, idk.

Cattails wife is never mentioned by name, almost deliberately.

So was pilobus' dad.

Did cattail lie about using the traditional method so that he could bring up not knowing the gender?

Did they actually have a child similar to the way pilobus did?

Mushroom spores are kept in the head, so when mushroom dies, the spore comes out of her head, with all her memories.

But cattails also keep seeds in the head in a very similar way to both pilobus and mushroom.

But unlike mushrooms, cattails still have to be pollinated, its seeds, not spores.

Its theory times guys.

So if cattails wife is a faux object, and a decendant of pilobus, or his father. Then, since his wife was a faux object, the spawning stone didn't work.

But rather then stop there, or go mad like pilobus, they already had some kind of secondary method.

One that works similar to mushrooms, they probably got the idea from pilobus' story too. but rather than a clone, its a child? And I think that mushrooms wife, somehow would have known about that, and somehow would have been involved.

But that all is reliant on mushrooms wife being a faux object AND cattail lying to turtleshell about mushrooms birth.

Defenitely possible.

But thats reliant on the theory "faux objects can't use spawning stones"

But thats not neccesarrily true either, we don't even know for sure pilobus is a faux object.

Nonetheless, this theory is the best i've got for why mushroom is like that.

I need mushrooms wifes name and past for this theory to be solidified, edited, or scrapped.

Damn why are all my theories open ended.

1. Being they were a hallucination

2. Being they were just an old friend used to explain comets past

I'd like too knock the first theory a bit, comet does do opioids or something similar, but her adversity to people (mostly just from creator quotes and "uncanny valley",) her adversity to other people goes far enough that she won't go near a person screaming for help, it seems trauma related honestly

And too the second theory, i think they were a bit more than friends.

I think she's a widow.
