I feel bad for Starlo. (pt. 5)

Most see this as a Staroba moment (not saying it's wrong to see it that way), but I'm like: why is Star’s first thought after he is brutally kicked to casually admit how he deserved to be hurt that much? He could have fallen to his death! Like, dude, stop. You're breaking my heart. Just look at how chill he sounds:

no starlo.. please be more gentle with yourself And then he says how his and Ceroba's mistakes were the same?

How??

What she did was MUCH MUCH worse. It's like comparing Papyrus to Alphys or Asgore. And I don't even hate Ceroba, or Asgore, or even Alphys. They're all flawed but well-written characters (gonna discuss the fox woman soon) But like… Ceroba not only had time to process things (and plan everything) but got support from Star. He didn't get either. The posse and Ceroba all left him hanging, all because of his enthusiasm and insecurities (that somehow nobody ever picked up on; the struggle of people who always seem happy is real) and good intentions. His entire life fell apart without him expecting it, all at once. Even worse, no one who was supposed to be there WAS there. And when Ceroba finally intervenes she basically reveals to us how North Star was someone no one liked?

I really hope she meant just who he was while Clover was there. Otherwise….

She better not be saying that, for the years this persona existed, they all hated it. That they hated this part of Star, the insecure part. They obviously wanted him to go back to being the Nice Guy™ (but like, he was always nice. The only time he was overly enthusiastic was when he met a real human for the 1st time and got to live his dream. Ceroba basically says how, well, the guy’s lived a pretty unfulfilling life before he found out about westerns. They gave his entire life meaning. She should have been more patient with him istg.)

Ceroba’s actions were manipulative. She never planned to tell anyone the truth. She wouldn't have told anyone the truth, EVER, if Star and Ed hadn't found out about her secret. Starlo on the other hand felt lost, since he got 0 support. Ceroba had Star. He gave her a free home. He was so thoughtful as to think "my childhood friend is currently crying herself to sleep, alone at home, why not give her company and ask her to stay with us?" Ceroba got a hug from Clover, lots of understanding from the kid, Martlet and Starlo. She got easy forgiveness. Star had to make up to his group himself and be the only one who apologizes. Even though they’d been gaslighting him (is that the right word for this situation?) for years apparently, or didn't let him enjoy himself for once in his life (depending on how you choose to interpret it). He even said sorry for forgetting to turn off the rock machines. Yeah, he deff goes back to Nice Guy™ AND does it pretty damn quickly when you think about it, after how much he was forced to deal with all at once ALL BY HIMSELF before Ceroba came and lectured him for the most part. He really is emotionally strong

yeah, ceroba didn't comfort star like this when he was at his lowest (bonus points for him soothing her all while grieving for the child he clearly saw as his own)

Even though she thought she was doing the right thing, Ceroba was a twist villain. Starlo was no villain. He just really hated himself, was glad to find someone who could understand both his passion and his beliefs (aka Clover), really wanted to finally feel useful and expected others to enjoy his fantasy world as much as he did. As a farmer he felt like he couldn't do anything for himself and his community. He only wanted to help the best he knew and got carried away.

One of the things that I think makes Starlo so great is that he's one of those characters who you can headcanon as practically anything and it will always make perfect sense

Like yes he is every and any flavor of trans. He is gay. He is a lesbian. He is mspec. He is aroace. this all makes perfect sense you're so right

His pronouns? His outfit? You can mess with those too and chances are it makes sense. I've seen she/her Starlos and Starlos with pretty significant outfit redesigns and they're all fantastic

And even his species like is that not so so so fun. He can have any number of silly animal traits or star traits or whatnot and as long as his head is in the rough shape of a five pointed star and his colors are about the same I'll still go yeah that's Starlo without batting an eye and I think that's really cool

I would say Starlo is outmatched 3-1 (no, I'm not including Pancake pfft) but I would say it would vary?

Chassis Wheatley would be a nightmare to deal with on his own, but we're doing three coreheads together against one. I...don't think the cores have any fighting skills? Wheatley might, from the Chassis.

Maybe all Starlo needs is to tie them up and throw bombs at them PFF. I have died more to Starlo than the three of their boss fights combined

My brain has continued to rot I swear like... I go from simping after Ikkan to simping after Starlo Me before simping over Starlo be like: Hahaha lololol me is no cowgril, I don't need no cowboy. Country Music what!? Westerns?! hearing the song "I wanna be a cowboy... and you can be my cowgirl~" and me being like "I AIN'T NO COWGRIL, I IS COUNTRY YES, BUT AIN'T NO COWGRIL!!! Hey! I have loved your stuff ever since your first comics about your Monster!Clover AU, but I gotta ask. How Axis doing?

Also, I imagine that during when the gang; Starlo, Ceroba, and Martlet, was looking over the physical traits that Clover “inherited” Ceroba notices that there is no sign of Axis- like traits on Clover’s body. She immediately disregards it, thinking that the robot simply didn’t or couldn’t have enough love to impact Clover. But what if Axis’s love did contribute to Clover’s resurrection, but makes itself known in the MOST ANNOYING WAY POSSIBLE.

Clover is running through his house, chasing Kanako, but stumps his toe REALLY hard. Clover, accidentally, drops an F- bomb while in pain, but notices that it doesn’t come out right. Instead of saying F**k, Clover says “[Screw]”, and both Clover and Kanako realize that CLOVER CANNOT CUSS, JUST LIKE AXIS.

errrmmmm clover designs for me cus i need to have a consistent way of drawing them, most of the notes are on the pictures themselves but im gonna expand/explain them a bit more under the cut (let me cook /j /j)

So first up is "canon" clover, i tried my best to keep it simple and to canon so i dont struggle too much with it so not many notes

-The vest got damaged on the fall down by a branch, its like that the whole adventure

-All of their clothes (except vest) are WAY too big for them, "grown up clothes make me look grown up" -clover probably

-The hat is a bit old but still on good shape and the clover is a fake platic one but they still adore it as if was a real one

Now the "I dont care about canon the kid is alive" design theres much to be said

-Vest is new!! as the notes say, starlo made it for clover when their old one got too damaged and old, dalv helped him design it and starlo got sappy over the vest being based on his poncho(?

-The hat is the same old one, but since it was old, it did get a bit damaged on some parts, dalv helped fix those one time clover was with him.

-Clover on purpose tried their best to have stuff from everyone of their best friends, (not noted here but they still carry the gun, and the gun has the friendliness pellets equiped, fuckign weed ha a soft spot for the kid /hj)

so thats all, a lot of stuff, and im gonna be honest my age range for clover just depends on how funny it is for the context, so it fluctuates between 6 and 11

also im writing a fic on ao3 and its already posted (under the same name as here btw) but im gonna share the link properlly once i draw something for it, for now idk if ur intersted search it :3

❔ - i figured out i was starlo kin cause of. well its a really long story BUT the short of it is i finished playing undertale yellow and he was my favorite and my friends started joking about killing him in their runs to give me psychic damage and it made me feel personally attacked for some indescribable reason and i ended up ranting about it hours after they had stopped and then they were like "hey you might be fictionkin" and i was like "oh that would. make so much sense." and then that night as i was falling asleep i re-experienced a memory of the part of the pacifist route where ceroba flung me against the wall so hard that i passed out when i was trying to stop her from fighting clover. and that basically solidified it for me.

🤝 - uhhhh mostly just neurodivergent if im gonna be honest. so mental/psychological i think?? i dunno, im still very new to this stuff. i talk about it like it is a past life even though i dont believe in past lives, and im pretty sure its just because i am extremely neurodivergent that i kin starlo.

👕 - COWBOYS!!!!!!!! i get so much happiness from wearing the blue scarf i crocheted recently cause it reminds me of my blue bandana i wore! also overalls any generally any farm-like clothing. makes me so happy and like i am in the right body :D

💥 - magic, like every monster!!! it feels so incredibly weird to not have magic and not be able to summon a magic floating gun wherever i want or to just sit still and summon a small, harmless bullet to juggle around in my hands when i get bored.

🔮 - not really cause i didnt kin starlo until after i completed the pacifist route, and any other memory i got came after i finished that route, unfortunately. unless in canon i was in fact transmasc. if it gets confirmed that i was transmasc in canon then that would be one thing cause the game is so new that i wouldnt be surprised if anything new gets confirmed about me lol.

👥 - yes!!!!!!!!!!! i have several sourcemates and i have one canonmate!!! my beloved friend @yellowclovers who found out he was clover kin literally minutes after i found out i was starlo kin. and then turns out we end up having memories that line up with each other. cause he remembers having awoken after the ut pacifist route and when going out to search for one of their friends, they found out via martlet that i had died and that ceroba was also still dead. which lines up with my memories cause i come from flawed pacifist in which i died not long after wishing clover good riddance. we are still very good friends though and i forgive him for everything now that i played the game myself and understand the pressure they were put under. it wasnt really their fault, after all, as much as it sucked.

i would also love more canonmates,,,,, especially a canonmate ceroba. i know a fictionkin ceroba but she does have enough memories for me to confirm if shes a canonmate or simply a sourcemate. though i suppose it would be bad to wish to have a canonmate ceroba because she literally died in my canon so i mean.

Just to clarify

Dalv is NOT supposed to be that present in this game. He's been a loner for a long time. He's only started making friends again during the events of uty. Plus, if you know his backstory… it becomes understandable why we don't see him that much. Character-wise, it makes 100% sense.

The reason why Martlet feels like she's not on screen that much (she does get a good amount of screen time) is because she's scatterbrained. That's why we never get a "full" section with her like with Dalv (Ruins), Star (Wild East) and Ceroba (Steamworks). That's why the Snowdin section focuses more on other characters. Martlet comes and goes but always means well. Again, it has to do with her personality, and I think it's clever writing, much like with Dalv.

The reason we spend so much time with Ceroba is that a lot of things have been tied to her and her family right from the start and it all unfolded perfectly imo. There is foreshadowing:

Just had to get that out quickly because I heard some people complain about this stuff.

...also I forgot to mention how some complained about Ceroba's arc "not being completed by the end of pacifist"

To that, I say: IT MAKES SENSE. She's gone through too much trauma for it all to be resolved so soon. Healing takes time (Martlet gave a nice speech). I always thought that, by the end, the whole point wasn't for Ceroba to get closure, but to TAKE THE FIRST STEP (which she did)

The difference between her and Starlo (both have been through a lot in their own way) is that he's more idealistic and hopeful by nature (as we can see after he quickly bounces back from basically having his entire life shattered). Ceroba is emotional. Too emotional. She needs more time. Let's respect that and be patient.

The reactions I've gotten for my Starlo VA posts have been SUPER fun to read and it warms my heart that y'all love them so much. After posting this I'm probably gonna pack up my computers since I'm moving in a few days (Washington State baybeeee) so there won't be any Starlo VA stuff for a bit but if you wanna watch them you can find the 1st one here and the 2nd one here

I've gotten a couple requests to animate some of them and asking if I was alright with that so I'll say it here that I'm 100% ok with that, I'm honored! As long as I'm credited then go right on ahead.

Once I get settled I might do a "reading stuff as Starlo" type video so I'll announce when I start that
