Heres rushed sketches of my Starbound Saturnian (well, Thaumoth actually). I haven't sketched her much at all but I don't want to neglect her. She's a lil silly!

Mini Bio:

Belladonna is a 17 y/o Thaumoth who gives off a brooding teenager vibes..when shes not wearing her glasses. She's rude, introverted, and broody normally, but when she wears her special glasses, shes anything but! The temper seems to disappear the instance she puts them on, and she becomes a sweet and friendly girl! Apparently shes unaware of her moodswap, and her normal self wears them to "see better" or something apparently, not that she remembers why anyway. The times you see Belladonna without her glasses is her desperately trying to find them again, muttering about "suppressing the dark magic" and "stop the whispers" or something like that. Belladonna will be clueless if asked about it with her glasses on, and its very rare to see her without them on in the first place. Finding out about her true self will definitely be a surprise for sure. Hope she's alright, though..

I was thinking it might be fun to try playing Starbound (FU) using only wands and staffs, so of course I’m going to play as a Saturnian. What would be a good, gender-neutral name for a moth person based on the Bee Hawk-moth?

There's actually two different mods for Starbound kids! Kids - Community Mod is an ancient mod that doesn't appear to work anymore/it's for an older build of the game. OUM: Racial Babies & Children is more up to date and includes some modded species like the Saturnians. I don't know if either of them automatically add children or babies to vanilla villages though. No idea how good either are. I have the second one installed but I keep forgetting about it.

seems the second one isnt exaaaactly what im looking for, but COULD work- babies are set as objects and kids are set as pets. which... i mean. yea ok that works LMAOOOOO

the second the creator talked about redoing a year ago, but also i am a modder myself, so i was considering trying my hand at it- adding kids as new species would work (and was what i was considering doing for mechit since it REALLY weirds me out that kids just Do Not Exist except in codexes) but who knows

ideally theyd be more similar to rain worlds slugpups- but given how ridiculously complex rain world ai is and how starbound is made of sticks, glue, and prayers, yea ill be happy if it can work at all

Also debating if I want to settle on a planet, or acutely do a mega ship

For the Starbound thing: The Avikans and Aegi are both very fleshed out. The Aegi lore doesn't quite work with Starbound but they've never left my mod list since finding them... Oh right, some species I use aren't actually cannon. The Saturnians fit amazingly well in Starbound lorewise. The Blattra and Sarasinor don't have as much lore, but I love weird-looking aliens. The Greckans have some lore that ties in with Erchius, which is neat. The Lepidia are worth a look, mostly because moth people.

Oh hey, the other moth species mod has it's own Tumblr. Thanks for making another moth mod for Starbound! The Saturnians will always be my eternal favorite race mod, but I love your mod's planet. Plus the items are adorable! Even my non-moths have a few. Have you added more codexs to the mod yet? If so I might have to try your moths out again. I'm a giant lore nerd.

i LOVE the saturnians too, theyre so well made that they made me wanna put my race out there publically despite the similarities

i have put more codices in the mod, theyre just only obtainable via admin commands for now because i wanted to put them in the lepidia village loot pools :3

(their villages just arent in the mod yet because im going thru So many design improvements for them before i decide to put them in permanently! im slightly indecisive sometimes;)

"gloamfall" and "on lepidia" are available in ship lockers, but ive added some slight editting to them and plan to move them to the village loot pool when the time comes!

other than that, theres a book called "Faefolk of the Gloamfall" which will be an introductory book on the Fayents once I release them (theyre another playable fairy-like species very distantly related to the lepidia; not yet implemented)

theres also "Metamorphic Properties" which explains how lepidia wing-shapeshifting works!

im also currently writing another codex thats a diary entry from a lepidia seeing butterflies on earth for the first time!

i actually was going to post the unimplemented codices right here on this blog once i am off work for today! so if you're interested in reading them (if you hadnt spawned them already) ill have them up later!

Not a part of the ask thing but what do you think of the magic staves in Starbound? I've tried using them in the past but they're just not fast enough for the missions. I do like keeping around a healing one though. If you've used the Saturnians mod before, what do you think of their magic wands?

....Ah. Yes. The staffs.

Gotta be honest, I can't use them. They're really powerful, they look cool, watching other people use them is awesome... but they're just too hard for me to use, so I don't.

Or, in Novakid speak: I don't truck with none of that fancy magic stuff. Just put a gun in my hand and I'm good as gold.

Confession: I actually suck at combat, mech piloting, jumping -- anything that requires a modicum of coordination, I can't do it. I'm just here to look at pretty planets and make funky buildings 😅

I've not used any of the custom races, so I can't comment on the wands, sorry.

Thanks for the question, and more power to you for being able to get use out of the staffs.
