Haunting
lxc/nhs, xisang week 2022, prompt: ghosts
tw: someone with mental health issues is treated awfully and their suffering is intentionally increased
read it below or on ao3
Lan Xichen sucks on the hard candy that Wei Wuxian had brought him from Caiyi Town, carefully observing the scene in front of him. Nie Huaisang is sitting, back straight, on his floor, gazing patiently back at him. His smile is serene as he leisurely flaps his fan and Lan Xichen can’t help but feel slightly nauseous.
“What do you want?” he finally asks without preamble. There’s no need for niceties when talking to men like Nie Huaisang—the only thing it will get you is manipulation.
Nie Hausiang flicks his fan shut. “Your help.”
“Hm,” says Lan Xichen. He continues to suck on the candy, savoring the sugar-sweet flavor as he tries to figure out what Nie Huaisang wants. They haven’t talked since the last Discussion Conference—and they haven’t really talked since that day in Yunping—but Lan Xichen still feels the last vestiges of betrayal swimming deep in his gut. It would be easy—too easy—to turn Nie Huaisang away right here and now. What does Lan Xichen owe him? Nie Huaisang has no power here, not when he has invaded Lan Xichen’s home.
Still, because he is honorable and just and everything that the man across from him is not, he says, “Explain.”
“I’m being haunted.”
“Haunted,” Lan Xichen says blankly. “Sect Leader Nie, you have your own disciples who can deal with this.”
“But none of them can,” explains Nie Huaisang. “And you’re one of the most powerful cultivators of our generation.”
“You’d have better luck with Wei Wuxian,” Lan Xichen points out. In fact, he goes to walk out of the Hanshi, to go and retrieve his brother-in-law. Maybe, that way, he can finally put an end to this disaster of a meeting.
Nie Huaisang immediately shakes his head. “Second Brother, I really don’t think he would be keen on helping me.”
Incredulously, before he can stop himself, Lan Xichen demands, “And you think that I am?”
Nie Huaisang’s lips thin. He continues to fan himself but his movements are sharper now—jerkier. Lan Xichen has touched a nerve. Good, he thinks viciously. To his displeasure, though, Nie Huaisang simply soldiers on. “Regardless, I’m in need of aid. Are you going to turn me away?”
Lan Xichen stares at the vile man who has ruined his life. Maybe he will turn Nie Huaisang away—maybe he will throw him out of the Hanshi, leaving him with no choice but to go and confront Wei Wuxian. Maybe he’ll ban Nie Huaisang from the Cloud Recesses altogether. Maybe he’ll irrevocably ruin the Lan Sect’s relationship with the Nie Sect in any number of ways just so that Nie Huaisang will suffer the backlash. Maybe he’ll trap Nie Huaisang here, tie him firmly to the door so that Nie Huaisang will always know how close he is to freedom without ever being able to achieve it.
Lan Xichen has long since accepted the cruel, awful thoughts that float through his head, the kind that he’d always thought only awful people thought of. But no, he knows the truth now—everyone thinks like this, the awful people are the ones who follow through on their thoughts and impulses. And Lan Xichen is not an awful person.
So, as much as he’d love to see Nie Huaisang shackled to his door, wasting away in the Hanshi, Lan Xichen simply sighs. “I will help,” he says. “What is the nature of your haunting?”
Nie Huaisang says, “It’s a ghost. It looks just as it did in life, but it makes no sound. No others can see it. It has taken to unsettling me with merely its image, which it occasionally morphs in order to evoke negative emotions in me.”
“Okay,” Lan Xichen says slowly, building a case in his mind. “Do you happen to know who the ghost is?”
“Yes,” says Nie Huaisang. “It’s Jin Guangyao.”
Lan Xichen’s mind screeches to a halt. For a moment, he’s consumed with rage—how dare Nie Huaisang come here and say that man’s name, taunting him with each flap of his fan? But no, the look in Nie Huaisang’s gaze is clear as day. He truly believes that he’s being haunted by Jin Guangyao.
“Sect Leader Nie,” says Lan Xichen, “Jin Guangyao is still trapped in the casket with your brother.”
“Which is why I’m concerned,” says Nie Huaisang. “Somehow, he has managed to find a way to escape.”
“To do what?” asks Lan Xichen. “Torture you, specifically? You think he intends to spend the rest of eternity trying to make you mildly uncomfortable?” It sounds mad. The casket that Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue had fallen into had been sealed several times over by Wei Wuxian himself, and Lan Xichen is aware enough to know that Wei Wuxian is among the most powerful cultivators to ever exist. Just being in the same room as the casket made Lan Xichen hiss from stinging pain, and looking at it was like taking a razor to the eyes. Wei Wuxian himself had seemed entirely unbothered, of course, only looking concerned when Lan Wangji began to tremble.
The bottom line is—no one is touching the casket, and no one will be breaking out of it.
Nie Huaisang’s claim seems incredibly unlikely. Still, Lan Xichen ignores Nie Huaisang’s protests to say, “I will look into it.”
The other man all but deflates. “Thank you, Second Brother.”
Offhandedly, not even thinking about it much, Lan Xichen adds, “And don’t call me that.”
“What?”
“‘Second Brother’. I don’t see any reason why you should continue to.”
“You say that with such a straight face.” Again, Nie Huaisang seems hurt. Lan Xichen has half the mind to curse him right here and now. The image of Nie Huaisang, wasting away in the Hanshi, pops into his mind again, but this time, he imagines Nie Huaisang’s hitching sobs of fear and betrayal. It’s awful but, well, he would deserve it, wouldn’t he?
Lan Xichen puts a stop to that train of thought quickly. He’d rather not act on it. Instead, he dismisses Nie Huaisang and gets to work.
-
As expected, the casket is still sealed. Wei Wuxian confirms this for him with ease. He also assures him that both Nie Mingjue and Jin Guangyao are still inside, fighting and clawing at each other for the rest of eternity. He says that last part with a smile. Lan Xichen nods, used to Wei Wuxian’s occasional but intense bouts of savagery.
Still, that leaves Lan Xichen wondering—what on Earth is happening to Nie Huaisang? Perhaps another ghost has taken to him, utilizing his greatest fear. To know further, he summons Nie Huaisang.
The man arrives three days later, looking weak and exhausted from the journey. Lan Xichen, rather pettily, likes it. He doesn’t mention it, though, instead asking Nie Huaisang more and more questions about his ghost. It sounds rather standard for a haunting and Lan Xichen gets more and more irritated, wondering how Nie Huaisang’s own disciples haven’t been able to deal with it, but then they reach a certain point of questioning that piques his interest.
“Are you sure it’s Jin Guangyao?” demands Lan Xichen. “Are you absolutely positive?”
“Of course,” says Nie Huaisang. “Who else can it be?”
“Another spirit may be trying to scare you,” says Lan Xichen. “Or it might be a demon that’s feeding on your mind.”
“It’s not,” is the firm reply. “It’s Jin Guangyao!”
And on and on in circles they go, with Nie Huaisang absolutely certain that the ghost is Jin Guangyao no matter how much evidence he receives on the contrary. Lan Xichen eventually shuts the conversation down, absolutely baffled. He summons his uncle, confused and wondering if he’d somehow forgotten about some nasty spirit that confounds the mind. Lan Qiren listens to Lan Xichen’s descriptions of the predicament, carefully sipping his tea.
Then, his uncle says, “This is not the cause of any malicious force.”
“Then what could it be?” demands Lan Xichen.
“It sounds to me like a lapse in sanity,” Lan Qiren says. “It sounds like a surplus of guilt combined with a distinctly unwell mind. Whoever it is that is suffering from such a fate needs to see a healer. If they remain as they are, they will only become a hazard to themselves and others.”
Oh. It seems that Sect Leader Nie has gone insane.
-
Lan Xichen puts off telling Nie Huaisang the truth about his problem. Instead, he waits, and he thinks. That awful part of him that he always ignores tells him that, maybe, Nie Huaisang deserves this. His uncle had said it plain as day, after all—this wouldn’t have happened if Nie Huaisang weren’t overwhelmed with guilt, and the man can certainly stand to be guilty.
And what danger can he be to others when he can barely cultivate? Even more, what does it matter that Nie Huaisang may be a hazard to himself? What can he do to himself that he wouldn’t deserve? Nothing, Lan Xichen realizes—Nie Huaisang deserves this. He deserves to suffer.
So, when Nie Huaisang visits next, Lan Xichen doesn’t ignore the awful voice in his head. He says, “It is Jin Guangyao.” He says, “He’s haunting you for your sins.” He says, “He won’t go away until you’ve properly atoned for them.”
Nie Huaisang accepts the explanation without question.
Lan Xichen watches how, over the next several months, Nie Huaisang scrambles to make amends. He watches the man suffer and cry and beg and look into every corner with sheer terror. Sometimes, Nie Huaisang will come crawling back to Lan Xichen, collapsing on his knees in the Hanshi, and weep, “He’s still there, I haven’t done enough. When will it be enough?”
“Just a little more,” Lan Xichen says, cradling the man’s tear-soaked cheeks in his hands. He looks almost enticing like this, as if he’s truly innocent. “I’m sure that then, it will be enough.”
Nie Huaisang withers into a whisper of himself and Lan Xichen thinks it’s exhilarating. Nie Huaisang will always be haunted by Jin Guangyao because he deserves it. He will never be able to make up for what he’s done for as long as he lives.
He’s almost disappointed when the news of Nie Huaisang’s suicide reaches the Cloud Recesses.
-
It’s three months before it happens for the first time. Lan Xichen is in the Hanshi, reading through some scrolls pertaining to the supplies purchased by the Sect, when something flickers in the corner of his gaze. He pauses, setting the scroll down, and he turns to look.
He sees Nie Huaisang standing in the corner. His eyes are blank and distant. His mouth is moving but no sound comes out. He reaches out to Lan Xichen, tears streaming down his cheeks. It’s a scene that Lan Xichen used to find so striking.
Filled with terror, Lan Xichen screams.

FICS FOR SASUKE LOVERS (III PART)
(The two previous entries can be found here and here
Okay, I reaaallly wanted to publish this list back in Oct 3 (Naruto Anime’s 20 Anniversary) or Oct 10, but real life is a bitch so I decided to wait until today, November 8. In other words, it′s Kishimoto’s birthday! Happy birthday man, you piss me off horribly, but you created Sasuke so I cannot be too mad at you.
Now, without further ado, here is the new list.
Justice ≠ Peace by Aaonnah (https://archiveofourown.org/works/12194697) Sasuke decides to run, run very far.
winter sun by sssrha (https://archiveofourown.org/works/18977182)
An Idle Path by strid (https://archiveofourown.org/works/24690367) Amazingly dark and creepy.
Indrajit by Tartarun (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13712919/1/Indrajit) Tired of fics that portray Indra as this super arrogant, envidious Bijuu hater? I know I am.
uproot by Anonymous (https://archiveofourown.org/works/34640626/chapters/87109879) A good-feel fic full of Team Hebi/Taka and its revolutionary shenanigans.
Days of the week by ismellitblue (https://archiveofourown.org/works/37498084) The Uchiha Clan survived the massacre... in a way.
Justice by bojackandcrying (https://archiveofourown.org/works/39137088) A short one-shot in where Karin and Sasuke bond, with the former validating Sasuke’s rightful rage and sadness, and his right to grieve.
Sasuke's Revolution by sasukeoftherinnegan (https://archiveofourown.org/works/40519650/chapters/101513700) After the final fight, Sasuke still doesn’t give up on his right to justice. Not Kakashi friendly. SNS.
Oh, Father Tell Me, Do We Get What We Deserve? by Vinauer (https://archiveofourown.org/works/25856248/chapters/62821729) What would have happened, If Team 7 had caught up to Sasuke after his fight with Itachi, before Obito would get to him? No very Naruto or Team 7 friendly.
let vengeance prevail (so long as it's not mine) by RecklessWriter (https://archiveofourown.org/works/42127929) Why did Shikamaru get supported on his quest on revenge, but not Sasuke?
Restore My Faith by onepieceofharry (https://archiveofourown.org/works/31550897/chapters/78057407) Sasuke finds a little baby Uchiha in a mission. Both heartwarming and heart-breaking.
Naruto: Romance, Politics, and the Uchiha Problem by Daastan_Go (https://archiveofourown.org/works/39144879/chapters/97932942) A meta piece that verbally bitch-slaps everyone in canon sans Sasuke. No recommended for ride-and-die Incel- I mean Naruto, Sakura, Itachi, Hinata, Tobirama and Kakashi fans!
...And don’t worry, I’ll keep updating this list....
I may not agree with all these writers say, either on these fics or in their other works, but all of them have one thing in common: they give Sasuke the love he deserves.

Tuesday-Friday T & G reading
The usual
Finished
Teen:
An arrow to the heart, by IsilmeLasgalen (7 chapters, might not be complete)
If you try to kill someone make sure they are dead or it might actually make them stronger.
Wei Ying can take a lot as long as he knew his A Yuan and his Lan Zhan were safe and sound but they should have never, ever hurt his family.
Linger, by apathyinreverie
Nie Mingjue’s spirit lingers after his death. He sees everything, all the while unable to interfere or make his presence known in any way, less than a specter of a soul that had once been. It is its own kind torture.
Right until Guanyin Temple, where everything comes to light, and Wei Wuxian finally puts his spirit to rest, finally leaving him to sleep forevermore.
Or so Mingjue had assumed.
Missing Pieces, by Moonanstars
There were so many times over the years that Lan Zhan wonders if it would be better if the handprint on his shoulder had just burned away like it should have when Wei Wuxian died.
take a devil by the hands, by otherhippo (hippopotamus)
Lan Zhan has not seen nor heard from Wei Ying in over a month when he returns to Yiling.
The town is no different to how Lan Zhan had left it, in the market stalls lining the streets and the tea house on the corner - he can almost see Wei Ying running at him while A-Yuan clutched at his leg, and closes his eyes against the flush of humiliation at how little he understood the child at first.
But Wei Ying won't be in town today: he is not the person Lan Zhan has come here to see - though he is the reason.
(Or - Wei Ying doesn't sleep - he avoids it at all costs. When he does sleep, it's interrupted by nightmares and terrors. Wen Qing worries about him, but he won't accept her help - so she does the only thing she can think of, and calls the only person more stubborn than Wei Ying.)
Searching for a Face that is Lost, by geethr75 (2nd in a series, 19 chapters)
Lan Xichen is taken to Lotus Pier, and is afraid, and grieving
four people in a room and a wedding that cannot happen, by MarbleGlove (3rd in a series)
Jiang Yanli, Young Madam Jin, takes care of the people she considers hers. Jin Guangyao isn't sure what to make of being included among that number beyond wishing he didn't need it so desperately.
She also takes care of Jin Guangshan, but in a different way.
nothing much left to say, by NocturnalFriend (7th in a series)
Jin Guangyao is made to pay for his crimes. Lan Xichen meets his brother's son and makes a decision. Lan Qiren is left to mourn another family member,
hole in our souls, by sssrha
No one expects it when the last of the Wen Remnants don’t die peacefully. No one expects the consequences of it, either.
(Or: The Wen Remnants died due to no fault of their own. And now they’re back, and they’re demanding repentance.)
A Little Bit Worse, by iamwish (2nd in a series)
Wen Qing’s perspective of Wei Wuxian’s murder field trip.
It takes place after “Ch 3 - WWX pov” of Here With Me (the 4th chapter in the fic), and during Ch 4 and 5
How can you explain that?, by MakoSky22 (2 chapters)
"Jiang Cheng I understand your worried but I'm fine. What was I supposed to do when shidi was in trouble? Leave him?"
"Yes."
or me hyperfixiating on when jiang cheng telling wei wuxian he shouldnt have saved lan wangji or jin zixuan in the cave and applying it to the other people around him.
Step by step, by apathyinreverie
No one expects it. When Lan Wangji protests the collaboration between his own family and the Jiangs so vehemently. Much less his reasons for doing so.
Insult the Doctor Prior to Surgery, by Hauntcats
This is a continuation of a chapter from Jiang Cheng - Dumb Ways To Die by such_stuff_as_dreams_are_made_on
I couldn't let go of the idea.
Not Jiang friendly. If you don't like that, please, don't read. It will only make you unhappy.
General:
No, Wei Wuxian, You Cannot Divorce A Man You Haven't Married Yet!, by stiltonbasket (5 chapters)
"Have you heard? The second young mistress of Yunmeng Jiang broke her troth with Hanguang-jun and ran off to the Burial Mounds with Wen Qionglin!"
"Ah, poor Lan-er-gongzi. Breaking her sister's engagement wasn't enough for Wei-guniang, she had to betray her own intended!"
In which Wei Wuxian ditches the cultivation world, Lan Wangji goes grocery shopping, Lan Sizhui narrates his parents' love story, and Nie Huaisang is the only one who knows what's really going on. Prompt fic!
Lotus Remix, by TheAdelaideParade (5 chapters)
As if Wei Wuxian didn't have enough problems when he came back from the dead, now he has to figure out just what is going on with Lan Zhan to make him go into seclusion. It looks like he'll have to tag along on this mystery if he wants to figure anything out. And just who is that Jiang disciple who keeps popping up everywhere?
Or, a canon AU in which someone else saved Wen Yuan before Lan Wangji could get to him.
Alliance, by LtLJ (2nd in a series)
Now that Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian, and Wen Ning have escaped from Carp Tower with Jin Ling, they know the whole cultivation world will turn against them. They need allies, and they need to talk about their feelings. One of these things will be harder than the others.
Conspiracy, by LtLJ (3rd in a series)
Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng, and Wen Ning set off to solve the mystery. Nie Huaisang shows up to help, and that definitely doesn't make things any easier.
Nothing Endures But Change, by Glitterbombshell (2nd in a series, 4 chapters)
After his impromptu (infamous) snowball class, Wei Wuxian acquires several new shadows, all of them eager for more of his brand of help with their lessons. Lan Zhan acquires a bit more competition for his husband's attention, but if it makes Wei Ying happy he can hardly complain. Lan Qiren possibly acquires more ulcers when he finally realizes where the Lan sect's youngest disciples have been sneaking off to for their study period.
The Past Cannot Be Changed, The Future Is Yet In Your Power, by Glitterbombshell (3rd in a series, 4 chapters)
Lan Qiren has a few conversations with varying degrees of comfort. Lan Zhan does his best to assure Wei Wuxian that they can't actually be kicked out of the Cloud Recesses. Choices are presented and choices are made and the Lan clan may just never be the same.
To Believe With Certainty We Must Begin With Doubting, by Glitterbombshell (4th in a series, 4 chapters)
Everything seems to be falling into place in the Cloud Recesses. Wei Wuxian thinks he might actually have a lasting truce with Lan Qiren, he's getting along well with the teacher that Lan Qiren wishes him to replace, Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi are even helping him get his sleeping schedule in order!
He didn't ask for their help, but that's beside the point.
Wei Wuxian is preparing to officially start teaching in the Cloud Recesses. It all seems to be going well, there is no looming disaster on the horizon, nothing that needs his attention besides getting ready to be the best instructor for his students that he can.
Everything is good. It's all...it's all so good. And it's going to stay that way this time.
Right?

catch and release (and catch again), by Gaez (bell_flowers)
Before he can even puzzle out what’s happened he’s falling. Falling but still holding Lan Zhan’s hand. Still holding Lan Zhan’s hand because Sandu has severed Lan Zhan’s wrist.
(Lan Zhan was not supposed to catch him. He most certainly wasn’t supposed to follow Wei Wuxian over the cliff.)
Battle Chefs, by sami

Wen Qing is returning as the Referee and Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli will be our Players for the PvP section once again. Raid Boss Wei Ying is sure to make things interesting as always, and the trailers for this season promised us new heights of drama and excitement.
They honestly could have just promised us pretty. It's going to be great!

Wei Wuxian gets resurrected against his will!
So what will he do about it?
Will he follow the path set out for him?
No!
He secludes himself in the Burial Mounds.
I Hear a Symphony, by Blueroses27
It has been 13 years, 13 years since the burial mounds were cut off from the rest of the world. No one was heard from the Yiling Patriarch, not even the Jiang siblings. Most have assumed it was to amass power but after 13 years they stopped preparing and moved on; until a letter with a fox seal finds it's way on to Sect Leader Lan Xichen's desk.
The Twin Ghosts of Yunmeng, by sandupommelfrog
Yanli, Jiang Cheng, Jin Zixuan, Lan Wangji, and Wen Qing put together a plan to bring Wei Wuxian home and secretly resettle the Wen remnants and it goes well until it doesn’t. The Twin Prides of Yunmeng have died in disgrace, but their memory haunts the cultivation world as demonic cultivators wreak havoc in Yunmeng and violet lightning strikes around the now cursed Lotus Pier.
Jiang Cheng breathes once again and has no choice but to continue forward to resurrect his sect (again) and raise his nephew.
(Also a mer au)
Here With Me, by iamwish
Wen Qing finds him on the roof of where he’s been staying, nursing a jar of Sishu’s wine.
“Wei Wuxian! What are you doing up there?”
Wei Wuxian hasn’t had nearly enough wine to get tipsy, let alone drunk enough for his words to slur, but he slurs them anyway for nostalgia. “What if Lan Zhan doesn’t fall in love with me?”
-
Wei Wuxian finds himself in the past, a few months before the Gusu Lan lectures, and decides that his best shot at hiding his trauma fixing the future is faking his own kidnapping and asking Wen Qing who all he needs to kill before she or someone she trusts is in charge of QishanWen. Clearly, he thought this through.
Or: Wei Wuxian creates a No War!AU, and then he has to live in it.
General:
Confrontation, by LtLJ (4th in a series)
It's time for the final battle at Lotus Pier, and everybody finally talks about their relationships. It's still not easy.
Once upon a lifetime, by HuaisangsIntellect
The second he awoke, Wei Wuxian realises that he has been sent to the past, but at what cost? How will he prevent the Sunshot Campaign and make sure none of his loved ones die? And... why is Lan Wangji so different than what he remembered?
(Or: Wei Wuxian somehow finds himself back in the past and causes trouble along the way.)
(This work is being rewritten and reposted!)
Then not in vain for you I pine, by BlueAthena (2nd in a series)
In another world, Jiang Fengmian does not find true love and is accused of loving the ghost of a dead woman.
In this world, he finds true love but it is not with the ghost of said woman.
(Because long before he met the maiden that descended from celestial mountains, he grew up with a man who held the moon in his eyes and unbeknownst to them both, held Fengmian’s heart in his hands.)

Note
Prompt: Au where lwj marries wwx after the bloodbath at nevernight, taking him back to gusu and hiding him in the jingshi, just like qhj did with madam lan. Also presumably like madam lan, wwx did not ask for it, nor does he appreciate it. The difference: wwx has the power to do something about it - after all, you can seal qi, but there’s no way to stop someone from performing demonic cultivation. (and, the lan sect forgot that a prison would probably have quite a bit of resentful energy in it)
“So, about half of that plan worked,” Wei Wuxian said, and Lan Wangji had the grace to look embarrassed. “Didn’t think the second half through, did you?”
Lan Wangji refrained from commenting, but then again, he was Lan Wangji.
“They don’t seriously think I’m going to just sit here in this tiny room for the rest of my life, do they?”
Lan Wangji looked – long-suffering.
It was a good thing, Wei Wuxian reflected, that Lan Wangji had confessed his feelings quite so desperately in those brief moments they’d been alone in the cave, or else he would be really upset with him right now.
Well, he was a little upset.
But it was difficult to be too upset when Lan Wangji had looked at him with that gaze, said those words, pressed his mouth to his –
“Oooh, wait, are you supposed to stay in seclusion here, too?” Wei Wuxian asked interestedly. “That’s the precedent, right? We get married and both go into seclusion, and then churn out a few kids – I could definitely give trying to make kids a solid effort, if you know what I mean –”
Lan Wangji’s ears turned red when he was embarrassed. “Wei Ying!”
“Oh no, it’s too late now,” Wei Wuxian said gleefully. “You rescued my Wen sect, you married me, you told me you like me; you’re stuck with me now! And in our very own fuck shack!”
“Wei Ying!”
Wei Wuxian didn’t know what he would do if he’d recovered from the paralysis Wen Qing had put him in to find them all dead – he would have reacted terribly – instead of the whole cultivation world ablaze with the news of Lan Wangji having stolen them right out of the Jin sect’s hands. If that hadn’t happened, he wouldn’t have stopped to wait for news, confused by the sudden twist; he wouldn’t have encountered Lan Wangji, rushing to find him, wouldn’t have read the message he’d passed along from Jiang Yanli, wouldn’t have heard him confess…
Wouldn’t have married him.
Lan Wangji was looking at him like he was the sun, moon and stars again, just at the mention of their marriage, and the only way handle the emotions churned up by that was clearly to start chanting, “Fuck shack! Fuck shack! Fuck shack!” on repeat until Lan Wangji covered his face with his sleeves in despair.
Yes, Wei Wuxian had heard the story about Lan Wangji’s mother, how this had been her place to live after her own crime – how she must have conceived her two sons here.
Yes, he was aware that calling it a fuck shack was in terrible taste.
No, he didn’t care as long as it got him out of having to confront feelings.
“Okay, okay, I’ll stop,” he said after a little while, laughing. “But seriously. What’s your sect’s plan here? Do they think that locking away my spiritual energy –”
Nonexistent spiritual energy, coincidentally.
“ – will allow them to keep me here forever? That’s not how demonic cultivation works.”
After all, there was plenty of resentment here to work with.
Wei Wuxian carefully didn’t think about how much of that resentment must have been from Lan Wangji’s mother.
“Unnecessary,” Lan Wangji said.
“So there is a plan,” Wei Wuxian said with satisfaction. “Well, not your sect’s, but you, yourself, have a plan. What is it?”
“Once matters calm, my brother will propose a debate with the other sects on the subject of my actions and yours, with the goal of agreeing that our punishment be left wholly in the hands of the Lan sect, the Tiger Seal sealed away or destroyed and both the Wen sect and you to be carefully monitored,” Lan Wangji said. “During that time, my uncle will come let us out.”
“Teacher Lan? Really?”
Lan Wangji didn’t repeat things, so he didn’t say anything, but he looked pleased – a little surprised himself, but happy to have had his suspicions proven right.
With both Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen on their side, it would be very difficult for the Lan sect elders to carry through their original plan. Lan Xichen would very carefully not agree to exactly what type of “monitoring” would be appropriate, allowing them to make their own assumptions, and if after everything had been settled the Sect Leader agreed that Lan Wangji could be the one to “monitor” Wei Wuxian, well, that was too bad for them.
An argument that would only be strengthened by the two of them being far away already, because to argue too much would be to lose face in front of the rest of the cultivation world - the only thing the Lan sect elders liked even less than his demonic cultivation.
“Huh,” Wei Wuxian said. “I didn’t think he liked me that much.”
“He does not,” Lan Wangji said. “If events were otherwise, he would have tried to keep me from you. But since things have come this far, he would prefer for me to be happy.”
“What happens after we leave?” Wei Wuxian asked.
Lan Wangji shrugged.
Wei Wuxian supposed that they could be rogue cultivators, staying at the outskirts of the other sects’ territories until the furor died down; with the Tiger Seal gone and Wei Wuxian technically under the supervision of a member of the Lan sect, they wouldn’t have much basis to argue. Travelling together – probably letting Wen Ning tag along – maybe with a donkey –
“We could have a farm,” Wei Wuxian said, brightening. “Just the two of us!”
Lan Wangji smiled.
Wei Wuxian’s heart skipped a beat.
“Yeah,” he said, a little weakly. “Yeah. Let’s do that.”
And maybe they wouldn’t need to fight the whole cultivation world off with his demonic cultivation to do it…although if that were necessary, he was willing and able.
No one was getting in the way of this marriage.

Under Extreme Duress
by sssrha
T, 33k, wangxian, WIP
Summary:  Later, curled up at Lan Wangji’s side in a meadow behind the Cloud Recesses, something suddenly occurs to Wei Wuxian. He sits upright. “Lan Zhan,” he says, “my brother thought we were having sex. Why would he think that?”
Lan Wangji glances pointedly at the forehead ribbon that’s currently wrapped around Wei Wuxian’s wrist. Wei Wuxian laughs. “Ah, fair enough.”
Or: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji bond over being the only betas in the Cloud Recesses, surrounded by horny alphas and omegas who just want to bang. And, of course, they’re the ones tasked with making sure no one has sex, because the universe apparently hates them.
My comments:  Oh, this has such a delightful and unexpected premise. Both wwx and lwj are their Sect Betas, which means it's their job to wrangle the sex-obsessed alphas and omegas from a VERY early age, which actually leaves them both sex-repulsed, since they're tripping over people getting it on every time they turn around. It also has the effect of making wwx very responsible (much to his chagrin), and he and lwj immediately hit it off and become close friends because of their unusual position. (Betas are very, very rare.)
The tone of the story is very light, cracky and often silly: I read it with a smile and a groan for these two boys, because they (and MianMian over with the Jins, and Nie Zonghui of the Nies) have such a unique and burdensome role to play, and the alphas and omegas they are surrended by are truly, utterly shameless.
Story ends at 6/8 chapters, but author said everything was written, so I have hopes....
a/b/o, non-traditional a/b/o dynamics, beta wei wuxian, beta lan wangji, asexual wei wuxian, asexual lan wangji, sex repulsed wangxian, every other human is constantly and shamelessly horny, humor, students at cloud recesses, platonic cuddling, platonic romance, crack, accidental baby acquisition, (eventually), no miscommunication, “everday” is cuddles, no sunshot campaign, sect leader wen qing, @sssrha
(You may wish to REBLOG as a signal boost for this author if you like – or think others might like – this story.)

welp, here’s my part of the collab with @sssrha for the xisang discord’s swap!
Laughter in Lanling is the associated fic!! Go check it!
“Think,” Lan Xichen says quietly. Then, “Don’t think.”
There are twenty-three rules in the Cloud Recesses that contradict another rule, and an additional seven that contradict several. As Sect Leader Lan, Lan Xichen is to be the physical embodiment of his Sect. He remembers the nights he’d broken down sobbing, wildly trying to figure out how he’s supposed to contradict himself so cleanly, so wonderfully, until he gave up all together. He just let himself be, let himself contain multitudes.
Lan Xichen knows paradoxes, so he nods his head and reminds himself that good smiles crinkle around the eyes.
Or: Wei Wuxian wants to make things right, so he decides to fix everything he did wrong in life…without asking any of his beneficiaries what they really want. Lan Xichen is stuck in a golden cage and a beautiful man with so many secrets is his only hope for salvation. He really shouldn’t have been surprised when everything went wrong.

Hiiii!!! I’m sorry for dropping in like this but I have a burning question to ask, I hope you don’t mind!! I was never that into the Harry Potter fandom, but I’ve read a few fics here and there, and I remember this one fic that I adored that I apparently didn’t bookmark on AO3, and since the Drarry relationship tag has more fics than the entire fandom I’m currently in, I lost hope very quickly ;-; What I remember is that, after canon, Harry had ownership of 12 Grimmauld Place but sold it immediately - to Draco, but he didn’t realize it at the time. Draco turned 12 Grimmauld Place into a museum and it was attacked, which brought Harry (an auror) to come investigate. Later on, I remember Draco and Harry discuss 12 Grimmauld Place and how the house had a soul and felt wronged...or something like that, I don’t remember exactly. If you could help, that would be great! But if you can’t, I understand!! Thank you!!!!
Ahhh, no worries, no worries! ( •ॢ◡-ॢ)-♡
Dear, have I got amazing news for you! The fic you want is none other than -
What We Pretend We Can’t See by gyzym @gyzym
Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: it’s never quite as far behind you as you thought.
Luckily I just read this not too long ago, so I had it in my head, and remembered it easily.(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧
And you are quite welcome!(*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡💜💙💚💛❤💕💖

The wonderful @myakkoh tagged me in this post, thank you so much, this was a really fun one! (Sorry for not reblogging, I have issues with super long posts without a way to hide things under a read-more!)
RULES: It’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works.
If You Only Knew Then: It’s been about a year since I updated this fic, and I regret that. I started it before I finished any form of MDZS, because Lotus Pier fell and my precious Yu Ziyuan died and it was too much. My character interpretations have changed a little since, but I enjoyed writing it a lot, and I really wish I could just sit down and get back to it. Hopefully soon!
Where the Arrow Points: This fic (Time traveling Wen Ning killing Wen Ruohan) came to existence in Kat’s discord, I don;t quite remember how. There are two versions, one the happy fix-it I’m writing now, and another WenQi version where WRH is functionally immortal and becomes enamored of his tiny murdery nephew and eggs his assassination attempts on. Maybe I’ll write that version when I finish this one! XD
Wandering Eyes: This fic was pure wish-fulfillment self indulgence, I just wanted someone to kill Jin Guangshan, and Huaisang was the best person for it, and then somehow in one afternoon I churned out Meng Yao’s confused and panicky version of events. I was and still am AMAZED by the response to this fic, it’s nearly at 3k kudos?
Just listing some of my favorite tumblr drabbles, because this would get long otherwise:
Wen Qing is BSSR
WCZ is JFM’s daemon verse
The Ghost LWJ verse
I’d like to tag @sssrha, @ibijau, @nmingjue, @marsdio, @denira, @annagrzinskys, @butcoda and anyone else who’d like to be tagged (just let me know!) And please don’t feel pressured to do it if you’d rather not!

Hiya. Just found and read your fanfic, "Wrong Place, Wrong Time", AND I HAVE NEVER LAUGHED SO HARD IN MY LIFE! XD I absolutely LOVED your characterization of Dumbledore. And his interactions with everyone else. I can't wait for more. Awesome story!
!!! I'm so glad you liked it! Writing it was a treat and it makes me happy to know that I've managed to make you laugh <3 And yes, I've always felt like Dumbledore has SO MUCH POTENTIAL as a dumbass who's just tired of everyone's shit, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Thanks for taking the time to tell me!
(Also, for anyone curious/interested, they're talking about this fic!)

Fic writer interview
Tagged by @ibijau and @anxious-witch, thank you!!
Name: demonic-cultivar here, ImaginationCake on ao3
Fandoms: currently writing for mdzs! as this is my mxtx sideblog im only gonna talk about those fics here. also i say “mdzs” but lbr its really “xisang”
Where you post: ao3 mostly, with occasional posts here on tumblr
Most Popular One-shot: i really don’t know clouds at all, my first mdzs fic!
Most Popular Multichap: come and find me (lying in the bed i made), i dont have a lot of multichaps so this is almost by default haha
Favourite story you’ve written so far: goooood question :’D recency bias i guess, but i was very happy with bind him with a golden band. the one i reread most often is definitely and there were no words for the way that you felt, that one is pure self-indulgence XD
Fic you were nervous to post: im literally always nervous to post :’) but especially so for the darker stuff. you won’t feel a thing, he said, was pretty early on and i wasnt sure how well it would be received, but everyone was so nice about it!! definitely made it easier to post other dark things later :)
How do you choose your titles: idk how this happened, but it’s a personal challenge to name all my mdzs fics after lyrics from hadestown. does it make any sense? no, not at all :D but now that i have started it would feel like defeat to stop. it kind of makes it easier in the end bc titles are hard and a strict rule like that actually makes it simpler to choose. also there are just. so many good lines in hadestown
Do you outline: unless it’s a very short fic, i pretty much HAVE to outline before i start writing. i have to know where it’s going so i know what tone to use and what scenes to include. having the destination in mind is important for me, as its far too easy for me to get lost XD
Complete: 15 complete works on ao3 good lord how did that happen
In progress: none posted!!
Coming soon/not yet started: slowly working on a sequel to doubt comes in and meets a stranger, which im very excited about even though its taking me forever!! i also really want to write a xisang a/b/o idea ive had for a while. and im currently working on an outline for a postcanon idea where jgy lays a curse on lxc :3c
Prompts?: i have never solicited them, but i have always thought they looked like fun! so if you have a prompt for me, please go right ahead :3
Upcoming work you’re most excited about: the mxy sequelllllll, i really want to start posting but im worried if i do i’ll lose steam and never finish T^T
Tagging: @glowstickia, @marsdiogenes, @sssrha, @indoorcloudrecesses, and @sheron-c!

Ghosts
I greatly enjoy Untamed fics wich feature ghosts so I thought I’d share some of my favourites.

WEI WUXIAN
The Cruelty of Fate by  Procrastination_Sensation
“Wei Ying,” he manages, a breathy croak, and peers past his eyelashes to watch those grey eyes widen. They swirl with more emotions than he can name at the moment- emotions that he has not seen in those eyes for years, and his heart aches further as he watches the other swallow visibly, trembling hands reaching up to tentatively hold his own outstretched one, though they pass through each other like the other is made of mist.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying breathes, and the shadows under his eyes darken as his face scrunches up, looking like he’s about to cry.
Tumblr prompt: The one where your soulmate's ghost haunts you when they die.
Words: 15.000
asymptotic by chinxe
The members of the Lan Clan have never been particularly well-known for their good judgement when it comes to matters of the heart.
Which is why it should come as a surprise to no one when Lan Wangji falls in love with an actual ghost.

one good thing by Yuu_chi
Wei Wuxian has been haunting his childhood home for three years. He's perfected the fine art of scaring away all the tenants, and has grown used to living with the dying flowers in the garden as his only company.
When Lan Wangji buys the house, Wei Wuxian fully intends to drive him off too. Except Lan Wangji is beautiful, and interesting, and captivating company - even if he supposedly doesn't know Wei Wuxian exists.

Death of a Ghost by Gotcocomilk
There was a ghost that haunted the decks of Lotus Pier, it was said. If you stepped across the wooden planks at night, walked along the endless docks and flying purple banners, he would appear.
He was always in darkest black, dressed as specter and shadow. In the emptiness where a face should be was a thick fog, features washed away and leaving behind only glimmering red eyes.
He looked ferocious as a ghoul, it was said.
Jin Ling thought he looked sad.
Words: 107.000/ Jin Ling, jiang cheng & wei wuxian reconciliation
Mother by darkbrokenreaper
Nearly two months after finding and adopting Lan Yuan, Lan Wangji begins to notice an odd quirk of his child.
Also: Lan Sizhui sees dead people. This becomes a constant source of strife for Lan Wangji who notices his son sees a spirit he calls "Mother".

A YUAN
the caterpillar's patience by tunnelOFdawn
[All of the Wens die and the world calls it justice. The Yiling Patriarch dies and the world rejoices. His soul responds to neither summoning nor Inquiry. A shattered soul, not enough to linger. The war is finally over—history rewritten.
And Lan Huan wants to retch as he watches the ghost of a Wen boy follow his brother into the Cloud Recesses.]
Or: A-Yuan in the Cloud Recesses for thirteen years as a ghost.

The Yiling Patriarch died with no unfinished business. The same couldn’t be said for everyone.
(The Ghosts of the Wen haunt the burial mounds)
Words: 7000
too small a graveyard by silversshadow
The sects had thought that they were done with the Wen remnants after tossing them into the blood pool and sealing the Burial Mounds.
But spirits do not care for the wishes of their killers. And ghosts will go where they please.
(The ghosts of the Wen haunt the living)
Words: 1500 part one/34.000 entire series

No one expects it when the last of the Wen Remnants don’t die peacefully. No one expects the consequences of it, either.

Words: 5.000
More Untamed reclists:
Fix-it fics: What if Jin Zixuan had survived, Lan Wangji had stayed at the burial mounds, Cloud recesses had provided a safe haven for the Wen, etc.
Gen fics: with a focus on the relationship between Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian
Modern AU: the obligatory student and coffee shop au’s, a pinch of amnesia trope and a smidgen of kid-fic (bc who can resist a-yuan?)

Prompt: in a mostly canon abo world where betas can both impregnate and get pregnant (just much more rarely than alphas and omegas) post-canon beta-beta couple WangXian both get pregnant at the same time and everyone else suffers.
No one was exactly surprised when Wei Wuxian announced that he was pregnant.
After all, he and his husband’s nightly entanglements were not exactly quiet, no matter how many silencing talismans people put up next to them, and that wasn’t counting the ones that happened during the day. Even with the significantly lower chance of conception for betas, everyone just assumed it was a matter of time – after all, as a general rule, if you try something enough times, eventually something hits true.
Still, everyone had been very happy about it when it had finally happened: congratulations all around, gifts of all sorts, toasts in his honor, elders indulgently looking the other way about the noise and clutter generated. And of course everyone had started talking about the important things – the type of furniture that might need to be added to the jingshi, suggestions for names, the initiation of a list of future volunteer babysitters.
It had all been very enjoyable.
Lan Wangji’s quiet announcement, a week later, that he was also pregnant was – more of a surprise.
Still a matter of joy, of course. A little bit more confusion (were they just lucky, or were there even more night-and-day entanglements than had previously been suspected?), and of course many of the conversations that needed to be had had already been had, though of course everyone was more than willing to retread the recent overturned ground.
It wasn’t until Jiang Cheng had showed up and started yelling that everyone had realized what the master of the Lotus Pier had apparently figured out at once –
They were both pregnant.
Both, at once, meaning that instead of there being one person in need of pampering and the other capable of responding accordingly, there were two in need of pampering, and each one determined to strain themselves in order to satisfy the other while also worrying about the other’s exertions.
Someone was going to have to take care of them.
No, more correctly – everyone was going to have to take care of them.
“You’re not leaving,” Lan Xichen, freshly emerged from seclusion to deal with the looming fiasco, informed Jiang Cheng. “This is at least fifty percent your responsibility.”
“It is not,” Jiang Cheng insisted. “I kicked him out of my sect fair and square, that means I’m free and clear!”
He didn’t leave, though.
He and Lan Xichen took turns directing the disciples – Jiang Cheng had summoned a bunch of his over from the Lotus Pier in a hurry, and of course the Cloud Recesses were full of Lan sect disciples – to make the jingshi comfortable for the nesting couple. Sentries were stationed at both the jingshi and Caiyi Town in the event of late-night cravings, the kitchens were on notice, and all sorts of errands could immediately be taken out of either Wei Wuxian or Lan Wangji’s hands. There were even a group of disciples specifically there to intercept any requests for aid so that they could assure the couple, who were always where the chaos was, that any incident had already been resolved.
(Jiang Cheng still somehow got personally stuck with the responsibility for foot rubs, which he complained about constantly.)
“It only lasts a few more months,” Lan Xichen told him encouragingly.
“No,” Jiang Cheng said, with the weight of prior experience. “It lasts another eighteen years.”
