Before the pandemic struck, I had the opportunity to visit my friends @nowornevercoffee in SoHo, NY. I shared stories with them over a cup of their delicious signature turmeric latte, and watched the constant traffic of artists, professionals, students, frontline workers, and service providers bustling in and out of the doors. Each customer came and went with a different agenda. But for a moment in their day, @nowornevercoffee provided a welcome respite from life’s callings. The character and soul of a city depends on the survival of small businesses. They are the places where memories are made, new friendships are created, and old friendships (like mine) are rekindled. There will be a day when cities will move freely again. But for the time-being, my friends are #stayingstrong, #stayingpositive, and waiting out the storm. As we approach the end of a difficult year, I’m getting requests for lavender essential oil bars that #soothethesoul. This batch will be going to a natural foods market in #NYC. For soaping techniques, I accelerated the trace of the charcoal and purple mica colorants with castor oil, while keeping a thin trace for the white background. Lightly manipulating the swirls using the “hanger method” achieves a more modern ink-stained look.
