I actually did not expect to like Spotfur’s Rebellion? I thought it would be another unnecessary novella - and maybe, in reality, it is - but I enjoyed it a lot, actually.
I really liked seeing the story of Broken Code (the first part of it, anyway) from another set of eyes, and honestly some part of me wonders if BC couldn’t have had Spotfur’s PoV in it from the get-go - her character has a lot of potential, especially if we had 3 books to really build up her relationship to Stemleaf and 3 books to explore her world without him.
I can’t say that I’d want to replace Bristlefrost’s PoV, because in the first three books she actually has some potential, but with the way her character is going... I have to wonder if Spotfur couldn’t have done just as well, if not better.
The main series as a whole is suffering from a lack of not just interesting characters, but characters at all - despite all the names, they’re just names with nothing else to them. Spotfur’s novella actually takes a few of these characters and has them doing something. Despite how grandiose the plots of the main series books have become, that’s something they really fail in.
I also really enjoyed how Stemleaf asked Spotfur to be his mate? idk if it’s just me being a sappy goober but I thought his rationale was really touching.
Stories about bg characters interacting with the main plot have always intrigued me lol, it’s a soft spot of mine and I enjoy those sorts of plotlines. Whether or not it would have the same appeal as an arc-long narrative? I don’t know. But I think it’s an angle worth exploring, and Spotfur’s Rebellion has a lot of potential in that regard.

Oh so it seems with Spotfurs rebellion when Bramble was first getting sick he would lose himself snd forget where he was .. I bet you it was cause Ashfur’s spirit was slowly draining him.. or making him sick .. before finally taking over .. that’s so creepy and neat ! I like this so far. Even tho I’m prob the only one haha.
I didn’t think of that, we saw a bit of it in lost stars but we see more of it here, yeah that probably was Ashfur doing something to him to make sure he didn’t return to his body once dead

bc im thinking about it i read two of the warriors choice novellas a while ago and i have two bits with alderheart that i cannot stop thinking about
alderheart disappears from that den with smoky’s kits and i had a whole like. 2 minute crisis where i sat there thinking, and i quote, “what- did he-? what-?? did he steal-??? what?????? huh??????????? wait” when i could have just Kept Reading And Gotten An Answer
and that bit of spotfur’s rebellion where dewnose scolds thriftpaw for messing up herbs and alderheart just Does Not Want To Be There

I have no one to talk to so here are my Thoughts on the newest Warrior Cats Books (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR A WARRIOR'S CHOICE AND THE PLACE OF NO STARS)
Out of everything that could've happened in this series I did not expect Snowtuft to be relevent again, but I'm glad he is because I like his development through the book and hope the team won't fuck it up
I'm very sad at the lack of Spotfur in this book but the one scene we got of her was amazing so I'll give it a pass
I was really angry with Mothwing when Darkness Within came out, but now I feel like she has made up for her faults and genuinely wants to help Shadowsight
Despite the fact that I liked this book overall I am really disappointed that Bramblestar is still alive. Let the man die and give us Squirrelstar and deputy Spotfur or Bristlefrost please
Also if by the end of this or the next arc cross clan relationships won't become legal I will scream
Moving on onto the novelas, Daisy's Kin was kinda boring but had it's moments. I'm sure people who like Daisy more than me love this book
The moments where Daisy fights a hawk and turns Smokey down are LEGENDARY
Also I hate that we get a slight sneak peek at Spotfur's kits in this book but we don't actually see them or their mother, I hope they're just saving the drama for the next book
Spotfur's rebellion was also kinda boring but it has Spotfur in it so I can forgive that
I really liked the ending and the beginning but everything in between was just kinda meh, mostly stuff we already knew
The ending makes it seem like Spotfur is being set up as the next deputy and damn I wish, but I know this isn't gonna happend knowing Erins
Blackfoot's reckoning on the other hand was AMAZING and it lived up to almost all my expectations
One of my top wishes for this novella was to show Blackstar's family and his relation to Bagerfang and they did, I couldn't be happier
Seeing Blackstar slowly realize his faults and acknowledge that the cats he hurt in the past don't have to forgive him slaps
Literally if you are planning on reading the Warrior's choice but don't have time just read Blackstar's Reckoning because it's a must
Feel free to discuss these books with me because I have a lot to say

daisy in “ashes”
or, nonspecifically, what are cats like goldenflower, ferncloud, and daisy getting up to, anyway?
this is tied to my thoughts on medicinery, so if you’re not caught up, a summary: med cats now only spend about 50% of their time doing “medicine” and it’s more osteopathic than in the books.
[1.7k words, 6 minute read]
daisy's kin (i just finished it)
so i just finished daisy's kin and 😗👌 am i happy with it.
i've always been exploring this, like, i'm lowkey obsessed with developing the role of the nursery queen, and...i don't know what i expected, but this was nice to read.
it was good both that thunderclan valued her and hnnng it was so good.
obsessed, i'm obsessed.
but curiously enough, i'm going to refrain from focusing (too much) on the story part of it. i just, this quote stands in my mind
That is important work.
snow, in response to daisy telling her about her role in thunderclan.
like, (a) it is, and it feels so good to read a book acknowledging that, and (b) it is, and i'm really happy that everyone agrees.
so anyway, i feel like the latest warriors release was tapped in to my brain.
first, it had all of this stuff that happens in mtbnsof (squirrelstar, if you don't read my fic/can't keep track of acronyms, which, understandable), or is going to happen in mtbnsof.
i kind of spoiled a lot of stuff in my book notes, but i'm not doing that again, so moving on.
anyway, i wasn't really excited for daisy's kin and spotfur's rebellion, i just wanted the blackfoot novella.
but damn, i was wrong.
i felt like someone had a line into my brain because daisy's life is exactly what i wanted it to be.
i'm going to talk about that in a moment i just really don't want to understate how fantastic it is to see a warriors novella expand and develop these ideas. i strongly urge you to read daisy's kin if you haven't already. it's really, really good. i'm being deliberately vague about the plot to encourage you to read it.
i think this might go as far as repairing the hole in my heart from "leafpool's wish." i don't think there's anything that can fix the brain rot (although the line in SFR, where she's like "adoption is valid," is close), but the hole? that's healing because of daisy's kin.
and y'all already know how much i hate leafpool's wish.
chapter five: advent
so if you don't read my fic "ashes," chapter five (advent) was published april 10th, and the basic summary is it's the first 3 months of holly/jay/lion's life.
it's a chapter i like, we're going to do a quick breakdown. there are spoilers for this chapter, and also probably the future of the fic. depending on when i actually publish this essay, they may or may not have been covered, so read at your own risk.
so the basic summary of advent is this:
ashfur meets his children
daisy apologizes for not supporting squilf
ashfur announces his children to thunderclan
sandstorm offers motherly advice
squilf has a moment where she's like "i'm not ready for this but you are my whole world
cool.
anyway, daisy has this line that i like:
But Leafpool's young, and she's not a queen. I understand.
she's talking to squilf and is kind of..."i'm here for you."
the implication is that leafpool's job doesn't really extend to kits, past their physical well-being.
and later on, daisy (and ferncloud) are the cats squilf leans on. she's the one who provides a lot of support over jaykit, especially when they're all arguing all the time about it.
she's also a support to the kits. they would all die for her.
daisy gives advice about how well jaykit is growing and reassures squilf it's okay to be kind of bored when they're little and sleeping all the time.
she also has this moment:
"Oh, hush," Daisy said, "I'm just proud she knows so many words."
where hollykit says bb curse and daisy is like "ah yes my daughter! she's so smart!"
anyway, daisy is just...
when hollypaw doesn't know what she wants, she's going to ask daisy for advice. she's a neutral party: squirrelflight is her mother, but daisy is in a not-quite-mother role.
she's the one who notices when leafpool is With Kits. that's her job.
she really does take it as a failure that she didn't notice what was going on with squilf. in the clan, her role is to stop that from happening. i mean, no one really blames her because squilf's kits were early and leafpool was there but...it was 100% her job to not have that happen.
if something had gone wrong, she would have taken it even harder.
(also, ferncloud usually also serves this role, but she has her own litter right now, so that's consuming a fair amount of her time/energy.)
kinship (kind of)
okay, well.
i've been talking about kinship more and more lately.
it's because i'm working on "wing & feather" (aka the jaywing au where dove and jay are siblings), and kinship is a somewhat big deal there.
so anyway, first: my usual preemptive vocabulary lesson:
sraue
litter, littermates.
maach
blood-family unit, sibling (by blood)
maara
den-family unit, denmates (going over this another time)
rru
mother, mother's sister.
rruha
denmother (queen who nursed at same time, or nursery queen)
there, not so bad.
right, so i'm doing a full breakdown of kinship elsewhere, because while the maach side is fairly simple, the maara side is...there are just different rules. they're not more complicated, but they're a second set of rules.
(and then you can have situations where, say, in w&f, by maach, jay and dove are maach with squilf and leaf, but by maara, squilf is rruha to them.)
see so it's complicated.
but we're honing in on rruha for this.
rruha is a term referring basically to any queen who could have nursed you.
using ashes, daisy, ferncloud, and squilf as an example:
if squilf's milk didn't come in (as per canon), fern would have nursed HJL, so ferncloud is rruha to them. (she's also got a maach relationship, but rruha supersedes that.)
similarly, squilf could have nursed fox and ice, so she's rruha to them. (unlike with HJL, she doesn't have a maach relationship to them, because she's not related to ferncloud. the more you know.)
daisy could have nursed either litter (hypothetically? it's a little complicated and the cat bio section is later on), so she's rruha to both.
this relationship is one of the highest ones on the influence later. the maternal relationship (rru) is the only clear trump card. the paternal relationship (seya) can be more important, but it depends on the father.
(the littermate and denmate relationships are also very important, but in a different way.)
so, daisy is somewhere between a grandmother and a mother to pretty much every cat in thunderclan.
god bless you if you ever try to hurt her, because that's a lot of cats who would not let that happen.
queens
alright, so. the crux of it all.
what is the role of a (life-long) queen?
to nurture queens and kits.
it's that simple.
it's just a very important job.
i imagine they train each other, too. goldenflower offered advice and teachings to ferncloud, and ferncloud brought experience of clan life to daisy, and vice versa.
i hope someone takes up residence of the nursery with daisy, because otherwise that's a lot of leadership to just break up.
(as an aside, seriously, this is out of nowhere: i'm still thinking about moonflower's death. it has to be the saddest death in warriors, for me. i think because she's such a mother figure: soft and hazy and kind, and she dies. and she's...you know, you barely thought of her as a warrior. bluepaw still sees her only as mother and then she dies, dies in a raid that you know was questionable, and it hurts so much. moonflower might be the only warriors death i cried over. because it pulled at this raw, primal place of grief and loss.)
cat biology (naturally)
you know, i made this header, but i don't actually remember what i had to say?
huh.
well. there's a nonzero chance i remember later so...
yep remembered.
okay so y'all know. i have fucked over my google for you searching info about cat lactation.
someone better care about this.
okay so.
best i can tell, cats will lactate with kits around, pregnant or not. it helps to be around pregnant queens, but a cat like daisy should have no trouble providing milk for kits where necessary.
now, based on what i know about this (which is more than i want to talk about lest someone accuse me of...eh yeah), this won't be perfect for newborn kits, but it'll keep them alive.
the problem is it's not necessarily going to be instant.
what i'm saying is, the troubles in daisy's kin are valid, considering the nursery is empty.
the long night
okay so i've talked about the long night/"whatever is done only by me" enough and i don't feel like explaining it again.
but basically, it's daisy's job to stop that from happening.
daisy (again, using daisy as a filler for "queens like daisy") is supposed to check in on queens, make sure they're safe, support them.
she will drop kick anyone out of the nursery who threatens that.
and you don't want to mess with daisy because it won't be one drop kick so much as the entirety of the junior warriors.
this is the most important part of daisy's job. crisis de-escalation. tree has nothing on queens.
notes and touches
uh, let's see...oh fuck! going to edit something.
okay anyway.
i'm very sad they let daisy sleep alone in the nursery D:
cats are highly social she didn't deserve that

Darkness Within Thoughts
Spoilers below!
Why did StarClan choose Ashfur to do whatever it is they wanted him to do? Why would they send him back, knowing his impact & true nature? Why him and not... say, anyone else? This outcome shouldn’t have been a shock to anyone with half a brain cell.
I’m so, so, so glad that the narrative acknowledges that Ashfur has an obsession with Squirrelflight. It’s not love, it’s a hate-filled obsession. They aren’t beating around the bush, and Jayfeather straight up saying that Ashfur’s behavior isn’t Squirrel’s fault is just. So nice. Retroactively making Ashfur kind of an obvious creep to everyone who knew him is also a pretty welcome addition.
I’m glad they included the argument from Graystripe’s Vow, it thankfully puts that super edition in a firm spot in the timeline - though it’s silly that they had to change dialogue in the se to keep the Ashfur reveal hidden. I think it would’ve been better if the se came out after, because we’d be able to read what the cats who left were up to after this book.
Shadowsight’s demotion is pretty insulting? Like, what has happened to Mothwing as a character. I never, ever considered her to be so bossy? Argumentative, yeah, but just pulling the rug out from under Shadowsight feels so out of character for her, especially when she brings up his visions like... Mothwing, honey, you haven’t had a legitimate vision from StarClan since tNP what the hell are you on?? The boy knows how to treat wounds??
I also really like the fact that they call what Ashfur did by its proper name - grooming. Because he did groom Shadowsight, and that needs to be acknowledged - no matter when it started, that’s what it is. Period.
HOWEVER the real insult is making Shadowsight treat Ashfur’s wounds. I can buy the other medicine cats/members of ShadowClan being uncertain of the visions he sees but making him tend to his abuser is fucking disgusting? Tigerheartstar what the actual hell??? How is that supposed to help him?
We really did spend an entire chapter talking in circles around whether or not to kill Bramblestar’s body, huh? I mean, I saw it coming because it’s been well established that no one knows what to do and also that Squirrelflight is going to claw and scrape to save Bramblestar - I’m with Tigerheartstar tho let Bramblestar die already.
Cheddar, Pancakes, Eggs, and Bacon are the best kittypet names, fight me. They’re just so adorable!
The Sisters pointing out how ridiculous it is that the Clans still cling to the whole “don’t marry outside your Clan” thing is only heaping onto the idea that they will likely be changing at least that part of the warrior code in this arc. I hope they go through with it because watching these characters try their best to explain why their code can’t change is getting infuriating, lol.
Holy shit Lightleap DID something in this book! What a twist! Unfortunately, seeing Shadowsight get treated so poorly is really frustrating and just... speaks a lot to how inconsistently these minor and background characters are written. I do like that they bring up that Shadowsight’s been spoiled by Tigerheartstar, though.
The Sister’s ritual was awesome! I honestly really want to know where they’re taking all this and I hope it ends in a satisfying way. Ashfur seems to have really messed things up and I’m hoping for it all to mean something in the end. I also really want to see Rootspring develop his relationship with the Sisters and his powers.
Bristlefrost and Rootspring... Aside from the huge glaring fault of Bristlefrost never thinking about Rootspring romantically until the last book, their moments together are sweet. Unlike some Warriors couples, they actually have traits about one another that they admire! If the start of this relationship had been thought about at all, it honestly would be a really good pairing with all that Yearning.
Spotfur’s fear of having Stemleaf’s kittens... poor gal. I’m curious if Spotfur’s Rebellion will touch on this at all, alongside fleshing out her and Stemleaf’s relationship. I hope she and Bristlefrost become really good friends beyond the content of this arc... I’d love to see them taking care of the kittens.
THAT ENDING. Good lord I feel so bad for Squirrelflight - I really, really just want the best for her. Please, Erins. Don’t kill her for Bramblestar’s sake. Do anything but that. I don’t think that, after this, Squirrelflight wants to lead ThunderClan - but, who else would do it? No other cat has been built up to be a leader, other than maybe Bristlefrost. Squirrel deserves to live happily. Please just let her be happy.
Kill Bramblestar tho. All the talk about him being a good and honorable leader feels really sour after Moonkitti’s video and Squirrelflight’s Hope. He’s an awful leader.
All in all, it’s a good book. If you’ve been keeping up with this arc, it’s worth picking it up. That ending alone gives me hope that this arc won’t fall flat in the last two books, like AVoS did.

Just so I don't get confused for @a-vision-of-shadows-rewrite
Hi, I'm Alois/Hilda. I'm transmasc genderqueer and frayromantic pan-aceflux. I use any pronouns except for she/her, but I default to using he/him or they/them. I'm 24 years old and autistic, with Warriors as one of my special interests
In general, I actually like the direction of arc seven, but I still take issue with... a lot of things. Especially Squirrelflight's Hope. I also wanted to fix some family relationships, have more disabled characters live and be treated better, and make the series way gayer than it ever will be. I was inspired by Dash to do this rewrite, starting with Squirrelflight's Hope because... a lot of reasons
Currently, I have plans for not just Squirrelflight's Hope and the main Broken Code arc, which will feature two additional protagonists, but I also have plans for Graystripe's Vow, Spotfur's Rebellion, Daisy's Kin, and an original Minnowtail/star novella that gets into spoiler territory if I reveal too much

So I’m prob gonna get hate for this ask since I actually like bramble but uh here’s what i think about spotfur’s rebellion
I’m really liking in how the clans have collective PTSD for Darktail with misbehaving apprentices.. also the juxtaposition of Real Bramble and what kinda good leader he was too Ashfur!!Bramble Also with spotfur’s rebellion all the subtle hints of following the leaders rule and clan loyalty and behaving with the code you can really feel the cultish status of clans in this ... but also how comfortable the cats in thunderclan felt with voicing their opinions on rules with Bramble in comparison to Ashfur! bramble.. idk I just really like these side stories. Hope this is ok to send .
Of course this is ok to send! Just because I’m not a fan of Bramble doesn’t mean that anyone who likes him isn’t welcome here
Those are some really good points, although I think Bramble is ok as a leader Spotfur’s rebellion does show an interesting perspective of how cats that have grown up only knowing him as a leader view him and how the clan trusts him to lead them. And like you say the collective trauma from Darktail is apparent

random but UUUH whered u get that cool pic of all the warriors books, where u kinda can cross of which ones u have? because this is like super handy hwhdjend thank for taking thr time reading this please have a nice day
Here you go! It’s built in part from one I found online that was out of date and separated the novellas and their collected editions into different slots which annoyed me.
Note: this is not in reading or chronological order. You definitely have to read the SkyClan super edition books and comics before you read the aVoS Arc, you definitely shouldn’t read some of the novellas before the books that they spoil, and you definitely shouldn’t read Yellowfang’s Secret cause it sucks.
Tumblr media
Recommended reading order:Warriors- The Prophecies Begin Book 1: Into the Wild Book 2: Fire and Ice Book 3: Forest of Secrets Book 4: The Rising Storm Book 5: A Dangerous Path Book 6: The Darkest Hour Super Edition: Firestar’s Quest Manga: Ravenpaw’s Path (Three books) Super Edition: SkyClan’s Destiny Warriors- The New Prophecy Book 1: Midnight Book 2: Moonrise Book 3: Dawn Manga: Tigerstar and Sasha (Three books) Book 4: Starlight Book 5: Twilight Book 6: Sunset Manga: Winds of Change Warriors- The Power of Three Book 1: The Sight Manga: Graystripe’s Adventure (Three books) Book 2: The Dark River Book 3: Outcast Book 4: Eclipse Book 5: Long Shadows (NOTE: a character named Brightspirit and her parents appear in this book who seem like they are going to be very important. They are actually a one-time tribute to a girl who was a big Warriors fan and her family who died in a tornado in 2008. Its weird and confusing if you don’t know that.) Book 6: Sunrise Novella: Leafpool’s Wish Manga: SkyClan and the Stranger (Three books)
Ok so next are a bunch of prequels that you could read at any point, in any order, but ideally you should read them AFTER The Prophecies Begin book 6 and the SE’s you should read BEFORE the Omen of the Stars book 1 Novella: Mapleshade’s Vengeance Novella: Goosefeather’s Curse SE: Bluestar’s Prophecy SE: Tallstar’s Revenge SE: Crookedstar’s Promise SE: Yellowfang’s Secret (This one really sucks. I don’t recommend reading it at all, way too many major contradictions with the first book)Novella: Cloudstar’s JourneyNovella: Pinestar’s ChoiceNovella: Spottedleaf’s HeartNovella: Redtail’s DebtManga: The Rise of ScourgeNovella: Tigerclaw’s FuryManga: A Shadow In RiverClan
Warriors- Omen of the Stars Book 1: The Fourth Apprentice Novella: Mistystar’s Omen Book 2: Fading Echoes Book 3: Night Whispers Book 4: Sign of the Moon Book 5: The Forgotten Warrior Novella: Hollyleaf’s Story Book 6: The Last Hope
Warriors- Dawn of the Clans (note: this fifth arc is actually a prequel. You could read it now or after everything else) Book 1: The Sun Trail Book 2: Thunder Rising Book 3: The First Battle Book 4: The Blazing Star Book 5: A Forest Divided Book 6: Path of Stars SE: Moth Flight’s Vision Novella: Thunderstar’s Echo Novella: Shadowstar’s Life (back to the main timeline) Novella: Ravenpaw’s Farewell Novella: Dovewing’s Silence Novella: Mothwing’s SecretSE: Crowfeather’s Trial (So, this was written after the next arc and the epilogue comic contains a few spoilers for A Vision of Shadows, but I think it’s kind of necessary to read right after Dovewing’s Silence. The Last Hope suggests Breezepelt finally GETS IT, Dovewing’s Silence suggests he doesn’t, and then if you don’t read this you’ll wonder why he’s not a major villain for the next arc) SE: Bramblestar’s Storm
Warriors- A Vision of Shadows Book 1: The Apprentice’s Quest Book 2: Thunder and Shadow SE: Hawkwing’s Journey Book 3: Shattered Sky Book 4: Darkest Night Book 5: River of Fire SE: Tigerheart’s Shadow Novella: Tawnypelt’s Clan Book 6: The Raging Storm SE: Squirrelflight’s Hope Novella: Tree’s RootsNovella: Pebbleshine’s Kits
Warriors- The Broken Code Book 1: Lost Stars Book 2: The Silent Thaw Book 3: Veil of ShadowsBook 4: Darkness WithinSE: Graystripes VowNovella: Daisy’s Kin Novella: Spotfur’s Rebellion (? Haven’t read it yet. Could be during book 3 or 4)Book 5: The Place of No StarsBook 6: A Light In The MistWarriors- A Starless ClanBook 1: River
Field Guides (probably don’t read these until you’re done with everything else. Ultimate Guide contains spoilers through Dawn of the Clans) 1- Secrets of the Clans 2- Cats of the Clans 3- Code of the Clans 4- Battles of the Clans 1&3: Enter the Clans (This is just a book that combines Secrets of the Clans and Code of the Clans) X: The Warriors Guide (This is just bits and pieces of the other 4 guides) 5: The Ultimate Warriors Guide (The description of what happened to Ashfur is so wrong you should just not even read it.)
Weird online content that has plot holes and doesn’t fit the story at all and basically you just should only read if you accept they’re dumb crap written for children: -The Elder’s Concern (you could be mistaken for believing this is AU fanfiction of the end of book 1. It’s not, its just a mess.) -The Sun Trail: Bright Stream alternate chapter -A Forest Divided: Tall Shadow alternate chapter -Spottedleaf’s Honest Answer -After Sunset: “The Right Choice?” and “We Need To Talk” (actually I really love these) -Brightspirit’s Mercy play- The Clans Decide short story -The first five books in both DotC and AVoS (and presumably TBC) have a bonus chapter. Not all published editions contain the bonus chapter! I had to find the AVoS ones online
Woo! I think I got em all. Sometimes books will have minor to major mistakes that will be really confusing when you come across them. Thankfully the warriors wiki has mostly accurate sections on every book’s page for “Mistakes” because this is a bunch of dumb rushed kids books written by a team of authors with no series bible.
EDIT: Updating this as more books come out. Not sure yet where Blackfoot’s Reckoning, Leopardstar’s Honor, or Winds of Change are gonna go
