I’ve finished Wind.
And the main (non spoilery) thing I have to say is what a delight.
The character interactions and the characterisation of formerly more minor and newer characters was something I was particularly fond of. Shout out to Podlight in particular, I very much enjoyed what’s going on with him. Also I won’t reveal who but a pair of Warrior Cats mean girls have emerged and I am obsessed. There several parts that are legitimately funny.
In terms of plot, not too much happens, but it was a delightful read non the less, and it is very clearly setting up Star with all the politics going on in this book and a great cliffhanger. What could have been a potentially more dull entry to the arc if you look at plot alone is just really elevated by the writing. I had a lot of fun with this book.
As long as Star sticks the landing then this arc will probably be seen as the best arc since the first honestly. I can’t wait to see how all this concludes.
I had such fun, I was debating between ranking it as an A or B on my tierlist but the last third of the book pushed it to and A for me.
If you haven’t read a starless clan for yourself I would highly recommend it, especially before Star comes out. Just reading summaries doesn’t do it justice.

It is time.
Remember I won’t publicly post any spoilers about this book until April 2nd (I will update my pinned post to include spoiler tags I use in coming days).
If anyone wants specific details feel free to DM me, but I’m going to be quite time constrained over the coming days so I probably won’t be able to write an in depth plot breakdown or anything like that

I’ll have to get to asks tomorrow sorry!
(Probably? Basically I’m working late and my copy of Wind should be arriving today, so I’ll be prioritising that)

The warriors website has acknowledged Whistlepaw as a potential love interest for Frostpaw a second time.
This will result in absolutely nothing in the books no doubt but it’s interesting to see they have brought up a wlw ship as a legitimate possibility for the books on their website twice now.

I wonder how many people found it EXTREMELY disappointing that Firestar didn’t get to defeat Tigerstar but instead a random cat from some clan full of edgy AF cats. lol
I still see people disappointed to this day lol
I really like it personally. It was originally going to be Tigerstar Vs Firestar until someone Vicky knew suggested the concept of someone coming along and killing Tigerstar before that could happen and the rest is history.

Whitewing is just such an amazing cat. As a kit, she watched over the newborn Leafkit & Squirrelkit and looked just as proud as Sandstorm that they’d been born. She postponed her own warrior ceremony so Birchfall wouldn’t be the only apprentice, as she understood that loneliness better than any other cat. She maintained her close bond with her parents & Brackenfur even after becoming a warrior and was her daughters’ biggest supporter during their entire time in ThunderClan. There was no cat who could speak poorly of her because simply put - she has no negative character traits. 10/10 amazing girl. I’m sorry that she could never be leader or deputy, but having her daughter as ThunderClan’s deputy is just as good.
Whitewing is just such a well fleshed out background cat (despite her age being forgotten), it’s a shame BrightCloud’s other children never got the same treatment. I think a Whitewing novella could be super interesting.

With how late Whitewing postponed her warrior ceremony so Birchfall wouldn’t be alone in his, I tend to forget that she is older than Leafpool & Squirrelstar.
Leafpool was an adult cat pregnant with her own litter of kits during the scene where Whitepaw was seriously injured on patrol, so Brightheart referring to her (adult) daughter as “my baby” becomes a little more gut-wrenching, too!
And if I remember correctly, during Mistystar’s leader ceremony, she called Perchkit “my baby” when he came forward to give her one of her 9 lives. Seeing more mothers refer to their kits as “my baby/my babies” is something I need to see more in the series, it’s so adorable & further establishes that unbreakable bond between mother & kit.
Whitewing’s forgotten age is one of the funniest author mistakes in the series, at poor Whitewing’s expense, she was an apprentice for such a ridiculously long time. It would be interesting to get her perspective on it though.
Speaking of Mistystar I also find it funny/sad how they also forgot Reedwhisker’s age when retconning him to be Mistystar’s son so he was an apprentice for an insanely long time by accident too.

Imagine walking up from a coma that you where in for a whole day and immediately finding out you had a name related to your severe injury…
Especially something like Lostface. Imagine waking up and being like “how bad is it?” And then someone addressing you as Lostface

Do you have any tips on drawing cats from different angles?
I do not sorry because I haven’t drawn anything for several years now, and even when I did I could never get angles right. If anyone has any tips could they comment below? It would probably be worth asking a more art orientated blog this question

Mistystar refers to Pikekit as her baby in Mistystar's Omen. I think there might be at least one more other time besides that, but I can't remember exactly where.

I stand corrected! Thank you both!

My copy of Wind has been dispatched 👀
As long as there’s no delays (because of Easter mainly) it should be with me by the end of the week
Even if I do get it early I won’t discuss any spoilers here until the release date (April 2nd)

With this reread of dotc I don’t think I hate clear sky anymore. I think he’s now one of those characters I like in a “you suck but you interest me” kind of way

I was rereading Leafpool’s wish and….oh god….
The way Brightheart reacted to Whitepaw getting seriously injured by a rabbit….
Yeah :(
Tumblr media
Leafpool’s wish is controversial enough for this scene to often be forgotten which is a shame
I genuinely think this could be the only time a character in warrior cats is referred to as a baby? I could be wrong though, if anyone knows of any other instances please let me know.

One of my favorite scenes from the first arc was Cloudkit, Fernkit, & Ashkit beating up Brokentail while Darkstripe watched amusedly in the background

I’m surprised Brokentail didn’t snap Darkstripe’s neck for that one when they were in the dark forest together lol

I keep checking the “Amazon Reveals Some Late Wind Pages” forum on the Warriors General forum page & it’s just so clogged with random Squirrelstar discourse 😭
I feel bad for the person brave enough to ask them why they hate her with such a burning passion. Because the extent they hate her is really odd. I’m not saying this because I’m like “oh it’s odd they hate her specifically” I’m saying this because some of the stuff they say is quite extreme. They constantly wish for her death and that’s some of the more mild stuff for those forums about her. They extent that they hate this fictional cat genuinely seems unhealthy to me. It’s hard to describe without doing a full deep dive into that place but if you hang around there long enough you’ll know.
My favourite/least favourite thing I’ve seen on there was someone getting so angry when she became Squirrelstar that they lost sleep over it.

I feel it’s pretty telling of how valuable the Erins see Brightheart at the moment given that she ended up in the TPB minis collection over unquestionably far more important characters such as Bluestar and Tigerstar, or even Sandstorm, Cloudtail, or Cinderpelt. As much as I love her even I have to admit Brightheart is one of the more minor prominent characters in the arc, only getting any kind of attention in the last two books, and even then she is only in focus for a portion of each of those books.

Something I really liked from Thunder was that it actually gave time for Sunbeam to be a good character and me to like her more
Not that she was bad, just that she did kinda revolve around Nightheart. I hope Wind keeps up this semi great writing.
Same it was such a great move. Once Bristlefrost got with Rootspring that became her entire personality, I’m glad Sunbeam isn’t suffering the same fate.
