info: he’s really good with press lol he usually goes on missions with kids because they all love him- during the day, the iDimpy factory ‘bought’ the Hermit Compound and ‘converted it to a chocolate factory’ and Impulse runs it lol (dw it’s still for superheroes, the bottom couple levels were just edited a bit HE MAKES REALLY GOOD CANDY)

info: he makes the food and potions, but the Hermits keep telling him not to wear that bloodstained apron around everywhere. it’s suspicious

appearance: again with the apron, and he’s scarily buff. kids are scared of him but he’s very nice really

Impulse had known for a very long time that he wasn’t exactly… normal.

Which isn’t a bad thing! But, the static shock people got when they touched him while he didn’t feel a thing, storms brewing when he had less-than-ideal days, and really mostly the fact that his phone never died when he held it- the charge almost seemed to be going up- all that did not seem ordinary.

So when he was recruited for a hero team because everyone at his school had apparently reported his strangeness, he wasn’t exactly surprised. But he was definitely ready to make a difference.

So Zed was some kind of sheep/ human hybrid. Did that make life a lot more difficult? In some ways, yes, but mostly no.

See, he had really good hearing. And he never had to worry about riding his skateboard, because his balance was always perfect and his skull was uncrackable. Plus he can jump like five feet on solid ground, which is pretty sick.

But people still thought he was weird. They all knew he’d grow up to be a hero… or a villain. So there was always a thin line of separation from the rest of the world, like they wanted to treat him like a fragile thing that could potentially attempt to end the world in the near future.

He would never, of course. But the only place he could really find contentment was with the Hermits.

Tango had discovered his powers in a… less pleasant manner.

Basically all he remembered was yelling. It was scary, he was seven years old, and… something just broke.

Then there was fire.

His parents, as far from that title as they were, did not make it out. Somehow, he managed to escape unscathed. Physically, anyways.

Foster care was pretty lame, but it was better than his old home life. Still, the only people he views as family are his team.

Keralis had loved singing for as long as he could remember. Especially because everyone loved to listen!

His mother had come from the sea, and his father was a fisherman. Keralis liked that his parents were sort of like a fairy tale. His mother taught him how to sing when he was young, but especially to control what he sang. She said he could really hurt people, and while at the time he didn’t know what that meant, he went along with it.

Until one day at a summer camp, they had a screaming contest (they were middle schoolers, don’t question it). Every window in the camp shattered, and six kids had to go home with ruptured eardrums.

He was immediately handed over to the American Hero Monitoring compound. There, he met X and Bdubs, and they didn’t mind his voice. Plus his parents visited on weekends! The only thing he loves more than singing is being a hero.

Bdubs and his brother had learned early on that not everyone likes heroes.

Maybe they shouldn’t have shown people that the two of them could play catch with a ball made of actual light, because they were then immediately accused of witchcraft. Witchcraft, really? Is this the sixteenth century?

Their family was forced to move to New York, and the AHM got ahold of both boys not long after. Because they bragged once, to a bunch of classmates in a small-town school that they’d been going to their entire lives. Bdubs opted to be a hero; show people that he can be good, but Puncenge wasn’t quite ready to forgive them all. He promised he wouldn’t ever use his powers for bad, but when he broke out of the compound with X’s twin, Bdubs didn’t go with.

The rest of the Hermits would probably kill him if they found out he was still in contact with one of America’s biggest supervillains.

There was a famous werewolf cryptid in Britain, and a lot of people were after him.

The original Hermit Initiative Program, with only Keralis, Xisuma, Tango, and Bdubs- well, their first mission was to capture him. Luckily, it wasn’t all that difficult.

See, Ren was not a monster. Most of the time he lived in town and was just… a normal dude. On the days where he was too sore or lazy to put a hat on and hide his tail somewhere inconvenient, he just let people believe he was a furry, because he couldn’t give less of a fuck.

So tracking down a guy with literal wolf ears and a tail wasn’t difficult, especially when he wasn’t doing much to hide. Ren was more than happy to get away from the hunters and to a place where he could just live and be normal.

Doc was the result of several government experiments- none of them good.

When scientists had discovered a new species of what looked like furry green things that walked on three legs and looked sad all the time, they figured whatever it was should be kept hidden from the public.

Especially after one of them blew a crater in the side of a mountain and killed three people.

A recently convicted scientist himself was selected to be, uh… tested on. It was a lot of blood and pain, but hey, that’s not a bad exchange for immortality and infinite explosive material.

Scar lost mobility in his legs thanks to a particularly risky mission in his rookie days- he got every civilian out, but there was definitely a cost.

It’s okay though!! His telekinesis allows him to move freely when he’s super-ing, and he has a big magical cat to keep him company at home. He was more than thrilled when there was an offer extended to him to be a Hermit, although he found it funny that it took them so long to locate him (a disabled person could never be a hero! *cough* Daredevil haters *cough*)

Cub was a scientist who… may have flown a little too close to the sun. See, he wanted powers, and he was successfully able to give himself wings! Unfortunately for him, he was too curious to stop there.

See, he’d found something called skulk deep, deep underground, in a buried city he and his team were excavating. Something big and very, very loud kept killing them whenever they took more than a few steps in, though, so the site was declared off-limits to everyone.

But Cub snuck in by himself, all the way to the center of the city. There was a portal there, and when he stepped through it… well, he either met God or Satan. Either way, now he’s basically Venom but with a much better color scheme, and he can no longer die! The only catch is that he’s a little bit possessed when using his powers, but the Hermits are there to look out for him.

Grian learned how to hunt very quickly and very suddenly, on the day superheroes were made illegal around the world.

Because, well, the best of the best were after him.

A bird boy! And a pesky one at that! Who used to be a hero! Everyone wanted to get their hands on Evo, and unfortunately, Grian was forced into hiding. Not that it was difficult- he had wings and razor sharp talons, so it wasn’t like anyone non-super could really get to him, but that didn’t stop people from trying.

He’s all for staying in the Hermit compound all day. It means he can lay out pranks while all the normal people are at work.

So maybe Pearl was born in Area 51. That didn’t exactly make her an alien. Maybe. Probably.

Listen. She has wings and antennae, plus a big pretty spaceship DNA-encoded to her, but did that mean she wasn’t from Earth? Of course not! There are plenty of weird people there. Plus, her ancestors were worshiped by the people of Sanctuary. It’s like… fine.

She’s happy to be a hero, of course. When she got an in on the most prestigious hero group in America (Australia was totally dominated by some clown who looked like a gingerbread man), she was absolutely all in. Hermits are better than some lazer beam, anyways.

When Gem transitioned, she didn’t think it would come with fire powers. But hey, bonus.

She kept her antlers, but she actually liked that part. Her people didn’t see her as any less of a princess or priestess, if anything they loved her more for bringing that kind of power to their city, Dawn, which she took for her hero alias.

She had two groups she was a part of, actually, plus with the business of being Gaelic royalty to a group of people previously thought to be extinct, she had a full schedule. But she of course wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Cleo lived in Locri, Italy, way back in Ancient Greek times. She loved her patron goddess, Persephone, and didn’t actually mind Hades. She worked in the city’s mausoleum and crypt, so she got used to death pretty quick.

Well, Hades took a particular interest in her. Not that he could do anything, of course, she was a priestess of both him and his wife. But he harbored a crush of sorts all the way through her life.

She did die. She was mortal, after all. But she was so gorgeous, Hades couldn’t bear that loss, so… he granted her eternal ‘life’. She was green and missing a few pieces and was messily sewn together, plus her fiery orange hair had turned to snakes like Medusa’s, but she walked the earth again.

She never died again. She can’t, which makes her the ideal hero, although she won’t hesitate to paralyze you for a comment about her hourglass shape-

Honestly, Stress didn’t even want to be a hero, mostly. She owned a flower shop and she’d gotten there with the help of exactly zero men, and she didn’t have an interest in changing the world or anything.

Only problem- she had superpowers, and they were sort of hard to contain. Whenever she got antsy, cacti started to grow out of her carpet under her feet, and after getting those stupid invisible thorns stuck between her toes one too many times, she decided to get out and do things with her powers.

The Hermits were happy to have her, and she’s happy to report that she and the other girls are almost their own little team within the big group- and they’re fine-tuned to perfection.

Iskall’s modifications were actually their choice. There was an offer by some mysterious guy in a suit to be rich and powerful beyond belief, and since they were sick of living on the street, they took it.

So they ripped an arm and an eye out. Was it worth it? Definitely.

No one makes fun of them anymore, for being NB or anything else, and they did pay them a lot. The only catch was singing onto a government sanctioned hero organization, and they were happy to go with their girlfriend to the Hermits. She slapped them for being an idiot and allowing themself to be experimented on, but she was happy to have them along.

If you don’t know what a Kitsune is, it’s a Japanese mythical creature that has two forms: fox and human (usually female). They’re kind of like sirens, and they’re absolutely stunning, but very manipulative and usually malicious.

Etho picked the name for the fact that he’s like half fox lol not that he’s evil; his ears and nine tails match the color of his hair. He is in fact immortal, but he doesn’t find that out until someone tries to off him and it just… doesn’t work. He can scar and be wounded, yeah, but death can never catch him.

There are a number of ways to become an assassin. Maybe you were raised since you were a kid. Maybe you were drafted by the government to cut back your sentence Suicide Squad-style. xB signed on in high school for extra credit.

Yeah, his history teacher was secretly a hitman, and students could sign a contract of silence to go on missions for extra credit. Sounds sketch, but it wasn’t terrible. He learned how to kill a man in over a hundred ways just with his hands and didn’t have to learn a thing about the Cold War through all of high school.

He decided just killing people was sort of immoral… although mostly that if he got good enough heroes would start to notice him. He figured if he couldn’t outrun them, he’d better join. And it was a good thing he did- he got his car-sized dog because of it.

Hypno was the most popular kid in his school for one reason: he had control over people’s memories. When someone asked him to make their teacher forget a due date, it magically happened. If an admin found out and tried to stop him, he wiped that as well.

Maybe he got a little carried away. He panicked one day and used it on his parents, only he put in too much effort in his lack of control, and… next thing he knew they were asking who he was and why he was in their house.

He hid from the AHM for as long as he could, thinking he’d be arrested. When they finally did track him down, they agreed to not throw him in a cell on one condition: join the Hermits. Honestly, not a bad deal.

In high school, Wels was… a huge nerd.

Yeah, he was on the varsity football team. But all his real passion went into theater and larping.

He and his twin brother, who was in the same boat, were exploring an abandoned excavation site behind their house one night, when the floor caved and they fell into the depths of what looked like an old buried building.

There were voices. The boys were knighted by ghosts and gifted unbreakable suits of armor. They left that site and had to pretend like everything was normal and fine with their lives. It came with a dope sword though, so who’s complaining?

Being made entirely of slime was cool because you couldn’t really be injured, but not as great because of how plain weird that made you.

Jevin and his cousin Charlie, who was also a hero, were in fact made of slime, as is their whole family. It’s just a weird gene that no one will specify on, but Jev doesn’t really mind.

The thing is, he’s resistant/ immune to pretty much everything. Extreme temperatures just sort of make him slower, and everything else goes through him or gets stuck in him. Not all that convenient, but it’s a nice perk when saving people. He doesn’t have to worry about himself.

Xisuma and his twin are the most powerful beings to ever exist.

Both of them can open portals through space, time, and other dimensions. They’re the only recorded people with that kind of power, ever. It makes them good leaders, but when one is constantly trying to destroy the world while the other is always trying to stop that from happening, scales balance out. If they were on the same side, there would be zero crime anywhere. Ever.

False started her business building little robots to make people’s lives easier, like a Roomba modified for carpet or a drone that pathfinds from your fridge to your living room to deliver drinks, and then it evolved from there.

When it started to get a bit too big to handle, that’s when she conveniently met Mumbo.

The two of them had been working on something highly illegal- a weaponized drone in the shape of a person to be piloted around like a dummy hero- when Evo and Medusa fell right through their warehouse roof, singed around the edges and badly hurt.

Mumbo and False’s service was so highly rated, the Hermits decided to officially adopt them into their team.

Joe and Beef share a kitchen/ lab, which is a good thing, because they’re kind of in the same field. Beef makes potions and food, and Joe is the healer. They’ve always been Hermits, as in assigned by the AHM always.

When various Hermits come in to steal food Beef usually throws either the nearest piece of fruit or a knife, whichever is closest to his hand. Everyone knows you don’t touch the cookies until you have express permission.

And Joe has patched up so many burns, bullet wounds, and stabs, that stitches are literally a no-brainer and he can be watching a movie in the background without a problem. It’s much more fun when heroes are made legal again so he can actually repair real damage made by supervillains.

The Hermits love them, don’t worry, no matter how many needles or knives are pointed their way.

Im going to expose the first songs I added for each of the lads to my spooky!lads playlists, this literally was just the first thing which popped into mind for them;

Daniel: You in a Place for a While by Yourself - Voice Coils.

This song is literally just an ethereal vampire vibe, I imagine he plays in it like a tall roof library while sipping wine.

Seán: Killer - The Hoosiers.

Chilled/Spooky vibe and also a lot of lyrics about the moon and hunting. Prominent drum part also :) lots of symbals and cool riff.

Brian: Are You Satisfied? - MARINA

Very strong know it all, overachieving scientist and researcher turned cyborg dude just trying to pick up the pieces storyline. Fits my version of him perfectly.

Kevin: Cod Liver Oil and The Orange Juice - The Mary Wallopers.

Literally just the embodiment of the most irish sounding song of all time. It just fits Kevin's vibe the lyrics don't mean anything at all to his character. Its very traditional and if you aren't irish you may need help understanding the lyrics lmao.

Daithi: Cradel of Forest - Akira Yamaoka

Reflective and ghostly feel, also the lyricism is very ethereal and otherworldly while not being too energetic. It has a lazy and yet intense vibe. Strong imagery.

Horror Movies: Lady Lab Rats

This is a theme that takes a turn for the disturbing: movies about women who are the subject of scientific experiments. Most of these can get pretty uncomfortable, so I strongly advise tackling this list with care. That said, I love all but one of the movies on this list. One of them is in my personal top ten horror pieces, in any medium, of all time. This list is presented in increasing order of intensity and on-screen violence.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920): A strange doctor exhibiting an eerie somnambulist as a carnival attraction arrives in a small town. The presence of this movie on the list should tell you there’s more to this than meets the eye, but I don’t want to spoil the ending for anyone who doesn’t already know. This movie leans on an unsettling atmosphere and gorgeous sets, not screaming and gore, to create its horror. The leading lady is delightfully spooky throughout.

Thale: A pair of crime scene cleaners stumble on a mythological creature trapped in a basement, formerly a subject of medical experimentation, and have to decide how to help her--or if the risk of helping is worth it to them. No actual experiments go on onscreen, and though the leading lady spends the entire film fully nude, it’s not remotely sexualized. Vulnerable yes, sexual no. It’s a slow-paced movie, with strong creature feature elements.

Splice: Two scientists decide to secretly create and raise an animal/human hybrid creature in their barn. Of course, this goes horribly, terribly wrong. Dren (the creature) has an absolutely stunning design. This one’s unique on the list in that the woman in question was born thanks to an experiment, not brought into a preexisting situation. I was personally disturbed by the strong elements of child grooming in the actions of both scientists, and would be unlikely to watch this again even though I adore Dren.

V/H/S 94: The Subject: A classical mad scientist kidnaps and alters unwilling people into cyborgs in a dark, back-alley clinic. When the authorities arrive, Subject 99--one of the only survivors--has to fight her way free. This is literally one of my favorite horror stories ever. Subject 99 is an incredible Final Girl, the found footage is shot in a very impressive way, and the action doesn’t outweigh the dreadful horror of what’s happened.

Martyrs (2008): A troubled young woman follows her even more troubled friend directly into the hands of a cult obsessed with discovering the secrets of the afterlife--by “scientifically” torturing young women until they can see it. You can imagine what happens from there (or maybe you can’t). Responses to this movie vary. Some people say that it’s the most disturbing thing they’ve ever watched; others, like me, found it incredibly moving and cathartic. Some people call it torture porn; I’m not so sure the label applies here. It is a challenging watch, no matter where you fall on the scale.

Some questions for thought: What changes in the stories if the protagonists of these movies have their gender changed (male, transgender, nonbinary, anything) while nothing else is altered? Would the characters feel more or less vulnerable? Would your reaction to the more violent movies change--would you be more or less disturbed? What role does the trope Beauty Is Never Tarnished play in these stories, if any? Would your feelings about these movies change if the characters were aged up to middle age or older? Why or why not? Would it surprise you to find out that I think The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is on an equal level of institutional violence to Martyrs, if not more so? If you’ve seen them both, would you agree?

Btw I missed that question about ME due to being dumb

I have played it one (1) time. It was Mass Effect 3 and I tried it and completed the first few missions with a friend and then never played it again.

Liked it though. It left vivid memories: I acutely remember Earth getting absolutely rolled by giant eldritch space zombie squid and the part where that boy won’t come to you and crawls into a vent and then you see the building he’s in get blown up and then escaping to Mars to save Liara (blue alien girls are a weakness for me…) and then chase the Matrix-looking scientist woman who runs ridiculously fast and keeps shooting back at you, and then she gets into a spaceship crash and you think she’s dead but she turns out to be a phenomenally spooky blue-eyed cyborg terminator and she digs herself out of the wreckage and attacks you

I lost that fight at least once and she stepped on my face. Like thanks but I did not consent and I’m not into AI girlfriends tyvmwtf

I later looked into the fictional physics about element zero and its gravity-warping effects and was very impressed by how consistent and well thought out it was. Abundantly clear they must have hired a physics graduate to advise their writing team. I like my science fiction as hard boiled as possible and I rarely get it that way due to a general lack of intelligence, interest or mathematical ability on the part of writers (see: Derek Landy trying to work out dates within a tiny 500 year window) so when I do get consistent fictional physics I am very very happy

10/10 would probably play and replay until my fingers hurt

Bailey!

A world-renowned spyentist surveillance expert and inventor. They're not on anyone's "side", she just works for whoever has the best offer for her (and is willing to put up with their weirdness). People tend to come to them when they need to know something, or keep an eye on someone. They do make inventions unrelated to surveillance, but a lot of their efforts go to that.

Her main base has a whole bunch of screens showing video feeds. There are also often tools and candy wrappers strewn about, since they like to eat stuff while they're working. It's a really cluttered area in general, with pipes, wires, and machinery covering the walls.

She's quite amicable, and has friends on all sides of the various conflicts she ends up in. Most of their close friends are villains or fellow "wild cards", though. In spite of their personality, her appearance, skill in spying, and questionable morality make her scary to many people.

Many parts of their body are artificial, including two of their fins. The number of teeth she has is apparently not static; she can have no teeth or way too many, depending on their needs and what seems funnier. They seem to enjoy making up (often contradictory) facts about their tech or physiology. Some of it may be true, most of it probably isn't.

Time for today's Terraria infodump! So, you've met Varrik, so I figure you want to feel safe again. Let's meet the ship's security officer, hired by the Captain specifically because Vix and Varrik are scary passengers!

Meet Lumina! Like many other's, they've set out onto the planar seas to travel and find adventure! Armed with their cutlass, squishy and versatile tentacles, and good attitude, they're ready to face any problem head-on! They may seem a little nervous at times, and might get a little freaked out, but no matter how neurotic they may get, nothing can stop them when they get themselves composed!

As illustrated in this sketch from before I drew their hair correctly, they're a jellyfish-type-person! And most importantly, like how Varrik belongs to Spooky, Lumina actually belongs to someone as well!

Lumina (and this artwork of them) is the work of my good friend Protty. I consider them part of my straw-hat shounen squad, so it's exciting to be able to use one of their characters and work with them as a team member on the project~!

Anyway, ya want more actual lore information about them? The first thing to note is that Lumina is human! In a vast universe filled with goblins and elementals and every weird thing you can think of, 'human' isn't a label people worry about too much. If you started as a human, then you're human. Werewolves, cyborgs, etc, are all unblinkingly considered acceptable. And Lumina kind of falls into that camp, as do a lot of fish-people. See, there's a handy way for telling which fish people are human and which aren't. If they come from a specific species, like murlocs or gill-men, then that's what they are. But if they look vibrant, unique, or otherwise suitably exotic, then they're likely a human who has heard the Ocean's Call. Nobody knows what the hell the Ocean's Call is. All that's known is that in adolescence, there's a tiny chance that you become a fish person. It's not viewed negatively, because it doesn't have any sort of effect on the mind, but scientists are unable to figure out what it is or why it happens. It's not a localized effect, because it can happen on seemingly any plane, and it doesn't even seem to need you to live near the water. The mana in the human body just... starts re-configuring itself according to some unknown blueprint, and no matter how many thaumaturges you have analyzing it, noone can figure out why. Those with the Ocean's Call tend to take to their bodies well, although it is different for everyone. They also all tend to receive the same dreams. Vivid and flourishing visions of mysterious oceans who's mana quells any discomfort or fear...

Lumina in particular is highly skilled with their shape. They're an expert at navigating in three dimensional space with their tentacles, and greatly enjoy being all squishy. You can squeeze them like a stress ball, just be sure to ask first.

Enerjak Reborn intermission: Who the hell is Enerjak?

Before we move on to the second half of the fun, thrilling, and exciting Enerjak Reborn arc, I think it’s a good idea to pause and take a look back at where we came from. Reading this arc, you may be asking yourself: where’d this Enerjak guy come from? It’s been over six years since I covered the comics featuring the original Enerjak, after all (and I tended to skim over stuff a lot more back then)

So here’s a crash course in Archie’s original nemesis for Knuckles. The big question today is... did the original Enerjak ever DO anything?

As has been established, the original Enerjak was a powered up form Dimitri took on. Even if you’re not following all this too closely, you’ll probably recognize Dimitri as the floating cyborg echidna head. He’s pretty memorable in that form

In his youth, though, Dimitri was a normal echidna scientist working alongside his brother Edmund on Angel Island. Together, the two of them found the legendary Zoot Chute

This, of course, led them to the chamber of the twelve Chaos Emeralds (yes, twelve--the lore was different back then) that were holding Angel Island up in the air. It had been generations since the echidnas had Brexited their capital city into the sky to dodge the White Comet, and they figured, hey, maybe we should land this thing. And so Edmund and Dimitri set out to slowly syphon away the power of the Emeralds to do just that, gently lowering the floating landmass back into the crater it had left behind. A reasonable idea!

Except then their proposal to land Angel Island was denied, so Dimitri got pissed and stole the Chaos Syphon to do it anyway. But then the machine went HAYWIRE and he absorbed the energy himself and it flipped his morality switch from good to EVIL!!!

Boy, that was sudden!

From there Dimitri’s plan was to enslave everyone on Angel Island and make them turn the whole island into one big airship, from which Dimitri would subjugate the surface world

(No, the pirate motif isn’t an artist taking liberties with the script--Ken drew these lore dump backup stories himself)

Boy, this guy sure does have big plans! And he’s got the power to back it up, too, since he absorbed eleven whole Chaos Emer--oh, whoops, the fire ants chewed through the base of his spooky tower and he was immediately crushed by rocks before he could do literally anything else with his new power

From here, Edmund and his allies “renounced technology” and “destroyed their city” (not really, but that’s how the story goes). His descendants would become the Brotherhood of Guardians, eventually including Locke and Knuckles. This part of the lore dump gave me some of my favorite panels. Meanwhile, Dimitri’s side of the family sought revenge and went full techno-fascist, forming the Dark Legion

Fast forward a few hundred years to the events of the three-issue Knuckles miniseries, and Dimitri's HP finally recharges and he manages to escape from the rubble, ready for his first face-off with Knuckles! Except he’s no longer just Dimitri... he’s apparently now Enerjak!

While the echidna lore dump stories published literally immediately before this miniseries that Ken drew himself depicted Dimitri as simply turning all green and glowy in his powered up state, the art in the recap pages of this miniseries seems to retcon the story and say that he had actually turned into Enerjak. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just use Enerjak in the original stories to set the persona up more instead of just having Dimitri turn green. Here Archimedes also refers to Enerjak as “the great evil of legend” even though no one is supposed to know about Dimitri’s Enerjak persona yet. Actually, this little point of confusion was expanded upon by Ian, which is why in his version of the canon Enerjak is an entity that multiple people can become, rather than just a supervillain persona for Dimitri. Anyway!

In this first confrontation, Enerjak displayed a few of the signature moves Knuckles has been using in the Enerjak Reborn arc. He’s able to unleash blasts of Chaos energy, freeze his opponents in place, and teleport them elsewhere. He uses this to make short work of the Chaotix and teleport Knuckles and Archimedes out to die in the desert of Sandopolis Zone

From there, Enerjak made a new evil citadel (guy just LOVES making evil citadels), this time made to resemble Echidnaopolis... except evil. He christened it “Nekronopolis.” He also, like... made some robots for Knuckles to fight, apparently based on robots they used to have in Echidnaopolis? Okay

In their final confrontation of the miniseries, Enerjak mind controls the Chaotix to make them fight Knuckles. He then starts going on and on about his unlimited power while struggling to kill a teenager, only to be undone when--surprise!--the fire ants show up and sabotage his fortress again. This time, though, they launch him into space with help from Locke instead of just making the citadel collapse on top of him. Oh, and then his evil fortress disappears. He leaves no mark on the status quo of the series in his first appearance aside from adding one more guy to the list of characters Knuckles has fought

Later, in issue #7 of the full Knuckles series, Enerjak is summoned back to Angel Island and meets the Dark Legion. Since he’s their beloved Dimitri, he immediately becomes their new leader. And so Enerjak gets his rematch with Knuckles. This time he uses new tricks like making himself giant and teleporting himself and Knuckles to various inhospitable locations like the moon. (Admittedly, the moon thing is cool.)

Eventually he gets bored toying with Knuckles, though, and he decides to just disintegrate him

BUT Knuckles is immediately saved by God the Ancient Walkers, who won’t allow one of their Chosen Ones to die so easily. So he comes back right away

Enerjak then leads the Dark Legion on an all-out assault on Echidnaopolis. He doesn’t really do much even though he could probably singlehandedly disintegrate the entire Echidnaopolis defense force with the snap of his fingers

And then Mammoth fucking Mogul shows up and drains him of all his power with the Sword of Acorns and turns him into a prune

No, Knuckles wasn’t even the one who beat his supposed nemesis in either fight

And that’s it for Enerjak! No, really! He appears in two story arcs for a total of six issues, and that’s it. He’s just regular old Dimitri from this point forward, eventually becoming a cyborg and then a head. He has no powers and is just a fascist

As with just about every other element of Ken’s Knuckles comics, Enerjak was all hype and no substance. Dimitri is an important figure in The Lore, but as Enerjak he doesn’t actually do anything with his unlimited power that has any lasting impact on the story whatsoever. He just taunts Knuckles and then gets his power slurped out by a mid-tier villain. It’s clear that Ken wanted to paint this as Dimitri repeatedly suffering for his hubris, but it sure would’ve been nice if he actually did anything before he loses each time. Like, honestly? If you took the Enerjak persona out of the story entirely and instead just had the Dark Legion bring back regular old Dimitri with their technology, very little about the overarching story would change. He also has absolutely zero nuance as a character, going from a well-intentioned if headstrong scientist to a world-conquering tyrant demigod to the leader of the techno-fascists at the drop of a hat when the story requires it

Needless to say, it is VERY SATISFYING to have Knuckles become a version of Enerjak with way more nuance and to see him actually do stuff with that power in Ian’s run. Not just cool fighting moves (although he has those!), but also stuff that will have a lasting impact on the series

Here's the schedule for the All-Day Tea Party Spooktacular stream benefiting Trans Lifeline, happening this Saturday, Halloween 2020!

10am: Realms of the Haunting, a spooky live-action shooter where you investigate a haunted mansion.

12pm: Ballistics, the fastest racing game on the planet. Not a Halloween game, but it’s become tradition during the charity streams to try and fail at this absurdly fast game. Photosensitivity warning!

1pm: Stephen King's F13: Ctrl, Alt, …Shiver, a horror-themed software toy collection featuring... SCREAMSAVERS.

2pm: Afterlife, a city simulation game where you manage heaven and hell.

3pm: Spider, a PlayStation game starring a scientist trapped in the brain of a cyborg spider.

4pm: H.E.D.Z: Head Extreme Destructive Zone, a 3D platformer with over 200 playable characters. You play as an alien collecting “heads” that transform you into different people. That’s like Halloween costumes, right?

5pm: 2K5, an extremely jank fighting game with a bunch of weird ugly monster characters. This game seems to be incredibly unbalanced, so we’ll see if we can figure out which character is most broken.

6pm: Moon w/ Misty De Meo! This isn’t the Moon that came out for the Switch recently; this is a spooky Japanese game for the Macintosh! I’m super excited that Misty De Meo is joining me onstream for this one!

7:30pm: Dinner break

8:30pm: The Trivia Monster. If you don’t know what The Trivia Monster is... prepare yourself. It might seem like a boring 35-year-old trivia game, but it will fuck you up for life.

9pm: BloodNet, a cyberpunk vampire RPG! We’ll be spending a little more time with this one.

11pm: Garage: Bad Dream Adventure, a dark and moody Japanese adventure game that recently got an English fan translation!

12am: Hugo's House of Horrors, a DOS adventure game in a haunted house. A lot of people seem to love this one, but I’ve never played it, so I may as well play it on Halloween!

12:30am: ｓｋｕｌｌ , a game about ｓｋｕｌｌ .

1am: Burger Burger: Hamburger Simulation, a fast food restaurant management game for the PlayStation. Burger Burger is entirely in Japanese, so we’ll see how much I’m able to play this one!

2am: Who knows?! I may be dead at this point, but if not we’ll keep going!

-Rabid Debate Club AU :: Random weird au idea where it's basic hs/uni au but like two of them try to start a debate club, then invite some friends just so there's enough people; cut to like two months later, it's all the hermits just fighting over whether or not pineapple should go on pizza or not lol it isn't very good i'm sorry but ya know rabid debate club AU.

-Animal/shapeshifting AU :: (Suggested Twice.) Every hermit can shapeshift into one token animal. (If it's something like "dog," they can only turn into one breed and color of dog, EXAMPLE: doc can shift into a black sable belgian malinois, but not anything else.)

-Wedding Planners AU :: Hermits work in various unrelated businesses such as a bakery, flower shop, etc., but see each other semi-often bc they're semi-often called upon to work together by another hermit's wedding planning business (obvs if you couldn't tell i know absolutely nothing abt wedding planning & businesses n shit lol but it's the /concept/ of it yannknow)

-Avatar: The Last Air Bender AU. (Suggested Thrice.)

Only 4 elements can enter the multiverse: Slime (The Lich & Jevin), Redstone (Tango or Mumbo?), Ice (Stress), and Dirt (Grian, much to his dismay). Only the elementals can see the book. Grian's the protagonist with his sidekick Scar. He originally started collecting the belts because they were shiny but eventually decided to read the book and find out what they were for when Scar said he didn't see it. Doc, False, and Iskall are major obstacles because they don't believe the book exists.</p>

-Magical Girl AU :: Zedaph's the lead magical girl and rounds up a bunch of other magical girl hermits.

-Terraria-Minecraft Fusion AU :: Who chooses what class? what events do each hermit prefer? how to they deal with the world infections? preferred biomes? Favourite NPCS? It has potentiallllll.

-Demi-God AU :: Sort of like percy jackson (everyone being the children of different gods from all different cultures.)

-Marching Band AU :: Xisuma is the band major and all the show music is the remixes. I need to come up with some ideas for uniforms. Outfits and flags for the colorguard too.

-Different Eras AU :: (Suggested Twice.) All the hermits are from different time periods or eras. Like Wels is from the mediveal/dark era, Mumbo is from 1890-1920's, Iskall is from 2030, TFC is from 2020(?), Cleo is from 2130, etc!!! Like the mobs/animals became feused with humans, is when the mob players came from.

-Star Trek AU :: Like maybe they could be on one ship and each have different roles like engineers or doctors? I don’t know if this has been suggested but hope you enjoy! - 🐦

-House Mates AU :: ApartmentAU but scaled down?

-Atlantis AU :: (Could be merged with Mermaid AU???)

-Fighting Game AU :: Some influences would be Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Ultra Instinct, that kind of stuff.

-Time loop AU :: The hermits each have to deal with their own time loop.

-Superhero/superpower AU :: They each have a unique power/powerset that is in some way connected to their personality. -Paranormal/ghost hunter AU :: A couple Hermits could be the ghost hunters going to haunted locations to prove/disprove their hauntedness, others could be camera crew, owners of haunted buildings, or even the ghosts themselves.

-Summer Cottage AU :: They all spend summers/weekends along the same shoreline and do different summer activities together. Outdoor fun and shenanigans!

-Space AU :: like star trek or similar.

-Magic AU :: Magic exists and all the hermits have powers. They can also summon a weapon but what that weapon is depends on the hermit. I'm thinking it'll take place in a sort-of Demise 2 in S7 with a big war. So far I've got: Grian - Cloning himself to his different personas (each has a different power). Xisuma - Making barriers, teleporting, and transforming into different mobs. Scar - Making mutant plants & boosting other hermits' attack & health. (-@datsaltyperson.)

-Demon AU :: Something enters the overworld and turns into a supernatural style-demon through Dimentional Distortion. Who gets posessed first, who goes crazy, and who actually kills it? Honestly I think that, if anything, Tango would know how to gank it, for obvious reasons. (-@fireflower-dusk.)

-High Street AU :: Everyone owns a different shop on the same street or some run a shop together (-@violets-arepurple.)

-Cat AU :: Either they're were always cats, or Hels turned everyone, including himself, into a cat, and they have to survive and overcome challenges in the Season 7 world. An example of a challenge would be Cub's a Sand Cat(the cats that always look like kittens no matter how old they are and live in deserts), and everyone's not sure if he can actually swim, so they have to find a way for him to get around without involving water. -How about a secret AU.. Every hermit has their big secrets and when Grian joined. He doesn't really know anything about those secrets even till season 7. Not many hermits talked to him in S6 anyway.. Mumbo was the closest to him so they would have regular chats For Iskall is mostly business related things Grian wants to know why so he set out on a quest to force the others to at least talk to him so he wouldn't be lonely. -Hermit Family AU :: Xisuma is very busy dad but when he isnt busy the kids and younger hermits annoying the hell out of him. Grian once asked to use Xisuma's computer and crashed the whole thing trying to download illegal gamesites and get money off the internet. Mumbo and his trains run through the entire house and Xisuma trips on them daily. (-@gamerutx.)

Ask and ye shall receive!

Toy Soldiers: Simply put, dystopia cyborg children. A wee little island somewhere near Europe run by a vaguely defined government is home to some funky shady labs that toy with with robotics and cybernetic enhancements, going beyond the legal acceptance of prosthetics and sight/hearing restoration. They nab kids or young adults nobody will miss and absolutely brutalize them, full blown sci-fi legs and all that.

These creations are them forced against one another in brawls for entertainment, and bets are placed on who will win. Sometimes, they're forced to kill one another or animals.

The top creations are, broadly made by a dude simply called Zookeeper due to his fascination with animals. He bases his experiments around them. One of his first experiments, Ursine, escaped and begins a revolution behind the scenes.

Vulture is just. Nuts. Chest-deep in Stockholm syndrome. He wholeheartedly believes he was saved by Keeper and was made better by the modifications. He fought it at first, but after his first fight he got some claws in his eyes, resulting in his irreversible blindness. Keeper didn't kill him for it, which effectively pushed him to the point of seeing him in a godlike sense.

Archie(to be named as Hybrid, but he remembers his real name so screw Keeper) was the newest recruit was scheduled to undergo some new procedures. He's best friends with Vulture for treating him like a person and is number 2 on Vulture's list of people he'd kill for. But Keeper messed up, and throughout a chain of connections that Archie had to the outside world, Ursine struck at a golden opportunity.

Lab was burned down and everyone was saved. Keeper is god knows where and Vulture swears to kill Ursine for taking away his normalcy and yeah goes on trying to find her but it really doesn't work

Anthony lived on an even tinier island that was pretty isolated. He and a group of people decided to talk to Ursine to beg her not to run their little island over(her revolt got the whole island evacuated and they really don't wanna be overrun by traumatized cyborg children next). They don't know much other than some experiments that may or may not be sentient revolted so they're going in blind.

But! Ursine's elected military general, Spark, gets shot when freaking out over what he perceives as a militia. He blows up, having a built in propane tank and all, and it takes the car with him. Anthony is the only survivor, and is rightfully freaked out.

Long story short he meets starving, burned, scratched up Vulture(who's barely alive trying to fend for himself) and is threatened into getting him decent food and taking him to Ursine. Fun trip for everyone involved.

Corruption: big ol zombie like virus that turns 70% of everything on earth into monsters. It revolves around a little girl who's immune to it, much to the confusion of the three who find her. She's got a funky label on the hospital gown she was found in so they go on a quest to find the mystery lab in hopes for a cure.

Ivan being a pathologist who wants to vivisect a certain someone, Robert trying to just survive in general, and Robert's husband Jeremy, who is slowly but surely turning into a monster and not having a very good time at all. It's a hot mess that's still being worked on

This one's a bit vague because I'm trying not to make a certain character fall into the stereotype people with schitzophrenia have

As of yet unnamed: The sky's black. No moon, no stars, big spooky. A wheelchair-bound man(Ben) wakes up to this, goes 'huh, that's not good' and realizes nobody else is around. Like...ghost town. No bodies, either. He goes around trying to figure out what the hell happened, yelling and knocking on doors but getting no reply.

Ends up finding a kiddo after hearing a scream. Kiddo has just bashed in another kid's skull with a rock. F e a r on both sides.

Kid freaks out, at first terrified of him, the calms down enough to insist he's completely rational and justified in killing 'One', shaking and stuttering and looking over his shoulder all the while. Ben can't rush leaving without possibly getting hurt, especially when the kid starts raving about monsters and voices. Prying reveals that kid has schitzoaffective disorder and says it's completely unrelated to the real monsters(it is indeed unrelated), he just has a hard time telling them apart(this does not help his case against Ben).

Ben isn't going to leave a child alone in the sunless hellscape, murderer or not, and calms him down enough to assure him he's not going to hurt him or sell him out to whatever scientists he keeps referring to. Asks for an explanation, the kid("Five") again starts talking about monsters and a fellow named Six, says One tried to get them killed by alerting the monsters, his story's really scrambled. Ben gets worried about him, thinking the kid needs help, but agrees to help him find his friends. It's a slim chance of finding someone, anyways.

Then an unseen monster touches Five and suddenly becomes very seen. "Told you they're real!" -Five probably
