Hey unironically i think i should be hired by streaming sercives to fix their subtitles. I think there should be a way for viewers/streamers to report bad or inaccurate subtitles or ways they could be improved. I think they should be able to ask for better translations or ask to be told what language is being spoken if they switch languages. I think this should be an option for big blockbusters and random indie movies and international shows/movies and i think streaming companies should stop paying for the cheapest fucking options for their captioning

I was wondering, what languages *do* you speak? (and for academic curiosity's sake - do you have any advice on holding more than two languages in your head at the same time without mixing them up?)
*cracks knucles* OK SO i speak swedish (native language 1), vietnamese (native language 2), finnish (born and raised in finland), english (went to international school), and french (studied for 10+ years)
Also sidestory i lowkey count german too because i understand german through english/swedish osmosis + living in germany for half a year as a kid + studying it in high school for a year despite it literally overlapping classes with my french classes but they were like damn this kid already known one million languages just let her do whatever 👍 so i went to the german lessons instead of french but still turned in the french homework etc for an entire year. also they mistook me for a native speaker in austria once. but i still don't speak german tho not really
For me since most of my languages i learned early in childhood, they're pretty much ingrained and separated enough to not mix up in every life.
I did sometimes mix up the languages in my head when i was simultaneously learning french and german (+ italian over that summer. and briefly russian also. i'm so normal i promise) and i basically just had to spend more time on one than the other so that they would be less even. Something like studying the main language every day and the side one only on weekends etc.
That's the only advice i can think of tbh. I think being exposed to so many languages since a young age my brain is just naturally able to juggle a bunch of them without too much confusion lol

hnnng i cant believe im here or sublimation for the WIP ask game??
hnnng i cant believe im here contains 5 false starts at the oikawa as an idol au that ive surely mentioned like a hundred times in passing at this point lololol. have a snippet from false start #4!!
She smacks his arm and shoves her obnoxiously large phone in his face. “You had a world-famous idol drunk in your room!” His nerves dissipate, replaced by confusion. “What?” Claire shakes her phone, almost hitting Hajime’s nose. “Look at this sweatshirt. How did Tooru get your sweatshirt?” There’s a paused video on the phone. In the frame, two men stand at a table against a generic studio background, and at a second glance, the one on the right is wearing a very familiar boro patch-worked navy blue UC Irvine sweatshirt. And, at a third glance — “Oh, my god,” Hajime says. With styled hair and makeup, he looks different, but could he be …? “How did you not recognize him?” Claire shouts. “An idol!” “Do I look like someone who knows what an idol is?” Claire groans, dropping her phone on the desk and sinking into Hajime’s test subject chair. Curious, Hajime unpauses the video. It’s in Korean, but it has English subtitles, which he can work with. At first, the man wearing Hajime’s sweatshirt doesn’t seem familiar, but then he starts complaining to his partner, and there’s no mistaking that whining voice. This man is absolutely the drunk stranger Hajime babysat two months ago.

Are you planning to study in korea? I wouldn't abandon the idea if i were you, it's so much fun there. Keep working towards it and hoping, the opportunity will arise! ✨️
YEAHHHH it's been the plan for a while lol. honestly the main goal is just to be as far away from home as possible LOL that's why even the colleges I'm considering here in the states are HOURS away from the city i currently live in and i was just like. I'm learning korean anyway i might as wellllll get a more vivid experience

I just got fab and idk how to use it. I sent Chuu a letter (?) instead of responding to a picture or a comment, which seems to be the norm?. I googled fab letter box and can’t find anything.. any general advice for using fab?
Open a message from the girls from their profile pages and send replies there. A message room has been active in the past 24 hrs if there's a pink speech bubble, like this
Tumblr media
You have to enter the comment section where the girls talk by pressing "comment" - you'll be able to see the entire message history (but you won't receive the girls' reply notifications if you don't send a minimum of 1 comment to the message room, you need to add a comment to get notifications. If you don't comment, you'll miss a lot of conversations.)
The girls mostly reply publically, but if they reply to you personally, the comment bubble will turn yellow like this
Tumblr media
If the girls like your comment, it'll show up like this
Tumblr media
You can view a collection of any personal replies/likes you receive by clicking "Comments" in the reply section
Tumblr media
As for the letter room, letters cost a little more but there's no character limit. The girls can look at the letterbox and "star" (save) letters they like, but the author will receive no indication that it's been starred, and the girls are unable to reply. It's a nice way to express yourself, but you won't receive any confirmation they've read it, let alone saved it or liked it or anything else.
General fab usage tips, don't spam, don't use a translator (not even papago) if you can't speak Korean, don't try make jokes that might not land, don't be disrespectful, don't demand/guilt for likes or replies, don't ask for confirmations on things like gifts or letters, don't comment on eating habits, don't flirt too hard, and lastly, DON'T FALL FOR FANSERVICE! They just are doing their jobs by fostering the parasocial connection, and are trying to retain an audience to spend money on them.

saw that you changed your name and got curious, can you speak any other languages :0? (and if you don’t mind, what does your new name translates to?)
I do change my blog title every so often! The current name is from a past conversation with ♠️-Anon and translates to "the pain of my heart" in French. I thought it was fitting for the subject of this blog (and my darling).
I remember 🌾-Anon asking about my language abilities ages ago, but my reply was long so I can relay it again here. Besides English being my primary language, I know some French and can understand/speak a little Mandarin and Cantonese (but I am illiterate in both).
