I'm in love with a fairytale
What had meant to be a normal visit to the library changed at a moment's notice when Camden could feel the tell tale pain of their soulmate. Something blunt must have hit them in the head. What was unusual this time around however, was the sound of someone in pain just a second later. Camden usually didn't put much thought into the soulmate business, but something inside of her told her to move over to the place the sound came from.
In the fairy tale section, Camden saw her. The prettiest girl that she had ever laid eyes on. Long, blonde locks of hair pulled back into an impossibly tight ponytail. She was clad in a pastel pink dress, with a denim jacket draped over her shoulders.
She couldn't quite take in her eyes as the girl was pressed against the bookshelf, as she seemed to be grabbing for a book that she couldn't quite reach. Little by little, there was a small budding success as the book got pulled out. The girl also managed to pull at the other books in the near vicinity. And that's when it happened. That moment everyone has been talking about for so many years.
Camden's breath stopped. The girl had triumphantly gotten the book that she wanted, however her reward for the method was multiple books pelting down on her. Camden felt it. Every single book that hit the person in front of her. On her head, shoulders, arms and legs. Adding that to the realisation that she had just met her soulmate, made her lose her own footing as she sank to the floor in empathy.
"Not again." The girl rubbed the back of her neck. She picked up the books around her into neat stacks. She looked up to see Camden sitting on the floor at the end of the row. "Why are you on the floor?"
"It uh…" Camden had a hard time finding the words. It wasn't every day you met who the cosmos had set up for you. Making a good impression however, was rather difficult when you're face to face with a literal goddess with an angelic voice. "You looked comfortable down here."
The girl tried to stifle a laugh by covering her mouth with her hand. "It sure is. Why don't you come closer? The floor near my favourite books is much more comfortable."
Camden almost considered crawling her way over there, standing up by itself being a monumental task. As quickly as she got up to wobble over there, it was even quicker to sit down by this magical stranger. Something for sure was between them, as Camden could have sworn she looked at her in some special kind of way. Up close, her face was even prettier. Her skin glowed and her green eyes twinkled. She smiled with her whole face, Camden noted.
"So what book were you looking for, miss…"
"It's Jasmine. Jasmine Kennedie." Jasmine tucked a stray hair behind her ear, and then glanced at Camden bashfully. "I was looking for this collection of fairytales from the Brothers Grimm. It has my favourite fairytale in it." Jasmine showed the book cover. The binding was blue and ornate, quite the dainty thing for such a heavy book. "It's The Worn-out Dancing Shoes actually. Have you heard of it? I usually just watch the Bar— I'm so sorry, I'm rambling to a complete stranger. What's your name?"
The antics of this girl made Camden snort. She's so endearing when she's talking about something she's passionate about. "Don't be sorry about talking about something you love. I quite like it. Please, tell me more."
Jasmine's face got a slight tint at what Camden was saying. "It was just. I usually watch the Barbie version. It's been a part of my childhood and, I don't know… I just like that it has a much happier ending than the original. It's childish."
"Not at all."
"I still didn't catch your name, did I?"
"Oh, right. I'm Camden."
"Alrighty then, miss Camden, what do you say we get up from the floor. It's uncomfortable after a while." Jasmine got up from the floor, and then extended her arm for Camden to grab onto. Thanks to the momentum in her swing, the two were now face to face. Jasmine still clutched the book to her chest.
"I'd like to think I'm more of a lady."
"Oh excuse me then, I didn't mean to offend the great Lady Camden."
"And right you are to be sorry."
"This whole conversation feels unreal. I'm not even sure how we got here."
"Honestly with everything that's happened today, I might as well be dreaming that I'm a lady in a fairytale." What was meant as a lighthearted joke, was taken seriously by Jasmine.
"Only one way to find out." Jasmine pinched her cheek. Her eyes widened and she backed away. She dropped the book that she had been holding onto for dear life. Everything stood still as realisation hit her. "Oh my god. You're my soulmate."
