Dean kicking cas out of the bunker is such a tragic and heartbreaking scene to me. Not just because of how upset dean and cas are about it, but because of the opportunity lost.

Cas has always been a very independent solving his own problems kinda character, to a detrimental degree. In season 5 it was looking for god, on his own. In season 6 it was working with crowley to open purgatory, on his own. In season 8 it was deciding that it was best for dean to stay away from him and then keeping the angel tablet and then deciding to trust and work with metatron, on his own. But here he was in season 9, human and vulnerable, and he realized "I cant do this alone, I need help"

And then you have dean, who has been reaching out to cas and wanting him to stay for several seasons now, always foiled by cas' hot girl activities, and he FINALLY has cas wanting to stay. Finally gets to keep him safe and with him. He can show him that "Yes, its ok to ask for help. We're your family, we'll help you. Of course you can stay."

And then he can't. And even though this is resolved, and cas forgives dean because he understands, and they're ok, this was an opportunity to break the pattern they've found themselves in that they never get back. A pattern they never really break.

I don't think the new spn fans understand what it was like to experience canon drowley in real time. Fans were talking about Crowley symbolically seducing Dean over s9 and correctly anticipated the demon!Dean storyline. Everyone expected Crowley to become the new big bad and use Dean as a weapon in his master plans. Then comes the next season and turns out all they've been doing together is hang around in bars and have sex. Because this is cw supernatural TBTB can't explicitly show or say there's gay sex happening but it's as blatant as it can be. People can't believe their eyes we're sort of asking each other is this real are they really doing this. This is anti-destiel, no one wanted this. Yet it gets more outrageously obvious every week and it's more canon than destiel is at this point. Dean breaks up with Crowley and Crowley falls into depression spiral spending all his time pathetically crying over him. Dean/Cas/Crowley love triangle becomes a legit storyline. When Crowley's humiliations build up we expect him to finally snap and become a true powerful villain once again yet it never quite happens. Crowley stays embarrassingly in love with Dean until the end and arguably dies because of it. Dean Winchester dick broke the king of hell's mind permanently. And again, because this is cw supernatural this all stays just barely subtext. Sometimes i wake up in a cold sweat thinking 'they really managed to no homo dean physically having sex with a man'

So first off I'm NOT going to try to explain what Supernatural is. Its a garbage fire, and I am unfortunate enough to be one of the feral, touch-starved gays to live in said garbage fire. Its the best show ever but all of its accidental, its the worst show ever in terms of anything that was done on purpose, etc etc. You're on tumblr you know the drill

Anyway, before GOs2's "Final Fifteen", the ONLY connections between GO and SPN were:

A demon in spn is named Crowley, in an homage to GO Crowley. They are alike, but they are NOT the same character and I don't think it can be argued that they're the same person in different forms (bc with demons that would be possible). They are however both Scottish, greasy and have a deep disrespect for authority. I do HAVE a theory/hc connecting the two Crowleys but that's another post for another day. Weirdly, SPN!Crowley (who I'm going to call Fergus from here on out, bc even though nobody in spn or the fandom calls him that, it is his canonical first name) has very little to do with anything I'm about to say. Just fyi, he exists.

Secondly, The Hillywood show did a Supernatural parody back in 2014-ish. I will link it below if you're curious, but again not much in this video is ACTUALLY RELEVANT to what I'm about to say (however, Fergus is there. He's the Scottish guy)

However, the specific arcs of Supernatural that SURROUND the season/topic this parody is centered on (Mark of Cain arc, ~s9-10) are where the coincidences get weird, and ok now I do have to talk about Supernatural a bit.

mmmfffff. Okay so the Metatron is a greasy, annoying, manipulative, power-hungry bastard who lies every time he speaks, wants full rule over Heaven and will control anyone and wreck anything he can to get there....

...and I'm talking about the version of the Metatron from Supernatural. LONG tldr, Dean (buzz cut, older brother, guy who's in love with an angel, the guy who says the news headlines in the Destiel meme) takes this thing/curse/whole other mess called the "Mark of Cain" to kill this kinda super-powerful arch-demon called Abaddon (more on her later), and blah blah blah Supernatural Happens For A Bit, and due to the Mark's curse making Dean act like a total psycho (and also, its implied, slowly turning him into a demon) they try to get help from the Metatron, who had been locked up after... well.

-when God was no longer contacting heaven, Metatron ran away from Heaven and hid on earth because he thought that the angels would use the Word of God (which the Metatron holds) "wrong" or something

-later, took advantage of strife & power vacuums in Heaven to manipulate Cas (angel, deeply autistic, the guy who says "I love you" in the destiel meme, in love with Dean) into doing a spell that CAUSED ALL OF THE ANGELS IN HEAVEN TO FALL, for no reason other than the Metatron is an actual pissbaby.

anyway, Metatron claims he can help Dean, that was a lie (shocking, I know), Metatron pulls some bs including basically stealing Cas' life-force (a second time. the first time was when he was ALREADY fucking w Cas as mentioned above) and runs off back to heaven... along with Gadreel, who he has manipulated/convinced to help him take power in Heaven.

who's Gadreel?

well. he's the angel who let the Serpent (or in this canon, just Lucifer) into the Garden of Eden, and he was cast into Hell to be tortured forever or something as punishment. However, after Metatron's earlier all-the-angels-falling scheme, Gadreel (for reasons I'm not too sure of tbh) took the name/identity of a VERY highly-regarded and powerful angel named Ezekiel, who died of his injuries during the fall

^this last part is a detail I try hard not to think about. this is because the names and roles are JUST similar enough to GO's Ineffable Husbands for the implications make me very, very sad.

Anyway, Gadreel had been around spn canon before, posing as Ezekiel, possessing Sam blah blah blah shit happened

Anyway this is a whole lot of words to say that the season/s of SPN that The Hillywood Show was parodying were the seasons where the Metatron was a main villain, and attempted/temporarily succeeded in taking power in Heaven BY MANIPULATING THE GUY WHO LET THE DEVIL INTO THE GARDEN OF EDEN

and then The Hillywood Show (who tbh I almost feel bad for lmao like BRUH) got signed to produce the parody/teaser/release date announcement for GOs2. Where the Metatron...

oh also in spn, the Metatron (its complicated but basically)severely/fatally wounds Cas, and straight-up KILLS Dean, but Dean resurrects as a demon (for a few eps at least), meaning that Metatron DID technically try, and almost succeeded in, killing both members of an angel/demon gay couple, if only bc timing lined up so that Metatron was an antagonist in the arcs where Dean was turning into a demon.

so yeah

anyway I mentioned we'd get back to Abaddon so here's those major spoilers I mentioned. I'm fairly sure these are real spoilers and not theories, since my source is wikipedia

that's the whole article, there's not much else on her on wiki (though I should really do more research on Muriel). I think I heard Neil say somewhere that he created Muriel because "he wanted an angel character, from Heaven, who was 'just nice'" but idk if anything specific has ever been said about her name.

anyway that's why the Metatron gave Muriel that book "The Crow Road" in the Final 15, why he likes her so much, and why he's having her stay on earth

"The Crow Road" is a book about the nature of Death, and Metatron is, for lack of a better/less problematic word, grooming Muriel for the role of angel of Death in the apocalypse (Abaddon being a VERY prominent figure in revelations, for those who weren't aware)

...so on top of all the other Supernatural/Hillywood-Specific coincidences, sure, let's have Abaddon too.

So my sister stopped watching SPN somewhere in the middle of S9, but nevertheless agreed to watch The Winchesters with me. I gave her a very barebones summary of how SPN wrapped up back when TW premiered in October, but she didn’t really retain it since it ended up being pretty irrelevant when it came to understanding/enjoying TW and I could answer any questions she had as they arose.

Anyway, we couldn’t watch the finale together, but she was finally able to watch it last night, which led to this text exchange:

I’m currently on SPN S9. You know what that means???? It means that I can finally start watching their interviews and conventions and comic cons and I AM. I really REALLY am. It’s insane how much of a family this fandom feels when they (J2M - hahahhahaha look at me knowing these terms and fully understanding and loving them lol I love this fandom sm sm) are just sitting on a stage and chatting with everyone. And it’s literally because of how they address the fans and it’s really unique because other shows’s cast members are rarely this invested in the characters they play.

The best part is the realisation that Jared is literally a golden retriever ALL THE DAMN TIME and that Jensen is always just done with him 😭. His lil forehead slam into the microphone when Jared starts going off topic is the funniest thing EVER. That man is so tall and so hyperactive and so annoying on purpose and it’s amazing.

The next best part is realising that Jensen. Can. Fucking. Sing. And not in a “acceptable” way but in a way that makes the Applebee’s jingle sound like a proper song sung by a man with a voice that makes your whole bussy quake. PLUS. He’s always essentially babysitting Jar and it’s so fucking adorable. Whenever they’re both on stage together the dynamic is literally golden retriever and a what-the-fuck-do-I-do-with-his-hyperactive-mess cat.

Now. Misha. He is the dad that never even realised that he adopted two chaotic messes. Whenever he joins the stage he either just sits their judging the shit out of them and looking at the audience like “yes, this is what I have dealt with since the beginning… welcome to my pain”. OR. He and Jen become the super disappointed parents of JarPad as he runs around the stage destroying everything he can while being as distracting as possible.

They’re all so fucking funny. I’m literally always, every single video, just laughing with tears in my eyes. The comedy. The puns. The dad jokes. The stories. The fan interactions. Everything is pure gold. At the same time, they’re so deep and caring of the people they talk to and the show they’re on. It’s just all very hugs-myself-because-they’re-not-around-to-hug-me.

The best part is how much they care about each other though. And obviously involved they are in each others life outside of the show. Sigh… Honestly…. I love this fandom.

Hi! Just wanna say I'm a big fan. Long time follower. I was hoping that you might have some info on Misha saying he thought about giving up acting after SPN due to abuse and mistreatment on set?

I'm just curious about the issues. I know there were "pranks" that got out of hand with Jared (and jensen once or twice) and just general devaluing of him/Castiel. I know there is a video going around but I can't seem to get it to play.

If you have knowledge I'd love to hear it, I'm a huge fan of Mishas work (both SPN and elaewhere). If you don't or don't wanna get Into it I respect that!

Sorry for taking so long, I saw your ask before I went to work and I couldn't answer until my shift finished.

You're refering to this video, if I'm not wrong. As you say, you haven't been able to watch it, but basically, what Misha says in it is that he hadn't thought about acting again after SPN and that he's glad to be part of Gotham Knights and that working on it has made him feel excited about acting but also proud of what he makes and happy for the appreciation he has received.

In last year's JIB he said that he wasn't supposed to work on any show, here you can see the gif:

He wanted to take some time and be with his kids. When he told Jensen about Gotham Kinghts and how he could play Harvey Dent and how he wasn't sure about it, Jensen told him that he should consider it, because it was an important role. And as Misha has stated on some interviews, his kids were excited about it and wanted him to play that character, so in the end, he agreed to it. He wasn't supposed to, because he wanted some time off, but in the end, he agreed, and that seems to have been a great choice, because as he has stated, he's really happy, excited and proud about working on Gotham Knights.

Misha hasn't explicitly stated anything about being burnt out by working on SPN, but it is true that J*red could be a fucking asshole, not only to him, but to everyone in the SPN cast with his pranks. We all know that Jensen took part on some of those, but they never went as far as J*red's (that we know of). There's also the fact that over the years Misha was unappreciated. The network and TPTB never truly realized that Misha played an important part in SPN's success. Again, Misha has barely said anything about it, but there were some ugly details over the years, like how during s9 or s10 (I can't remember exactly), they didn't tell Misha until almost the last day of shooting that he would be coming back for the next season. Also, let's not forget about the whole finale thing and how they forgot about Cas. They keep telling us it was a covid thing, but they brought back Jim Beaver, who belonged to the vulnerable population, but not Misha, and also let's not forget about the whole bridge thing where there were tons of people without masks on and not keeping any safe distance in between one another.

There are more examples of this mistreatment, like how they forced Misha to work while he was sick during the begining of s7 and only stopped filming because Jensen told everyone that they needed to stop for Misha's sake.

There are more instances like those, but I can't remember anything else. Still, it's nice to know that Misha is being treated right in Gotham Knights and that he seems to be so happy, proud and excited about it.

I was just reading through this post and it reminded me - I have a friend who is watching SPN for the first time. She's been kind of live texting her watching because she knows I've watched the show a million times lol. When she got to S10 she was basically like "I don't know why this season just feels.. off?" She mentioned shortly after how it felt Dean focused suddenly and it just wasn't clicking with her (she isn't a Sam/Jared stan, she barely knew about the guys before starting the show so she went in blind basically). It just goes to show how the GA reacts to Dean being the focus vs what AA's and hellers claim.

S10 is definitely a slog to get through. I can count on one hand the number of good episodes that season. Back when I was watching live, S9-10 is about the time I stopped watching for a while.

I think one of the problems (besides poor writing and being a repurposed Sam storyline) is the fact that Jensen can't pull off the tortured soul narrative that Jared portrayed so well in S4-S5. He tries to show Dean struggling with the Mark, but it's no worse than any other struggle Dean goes through in other seasons. Plus, there's no major repercussions. MOC Dean didn't kill people that anyone felt bad about. He wasn't raked over the coals for his choices. He certainly didn't experience any real remorse. Sure, at the end he killed Death, but there was no real consequence for that. It was Sam's work to remove the mark that carried over into S11. And if you notice, when people list favorite seasons (out of the later ones), S11 is always high on the list because that's when the show finally got back to, at the very least, sharing the focus with Sam.

I can definitely feel for your friend, but let her know there's a light at the end of the S10 tunnel!

(the scene with dean, cas, and the cupid? dean's complete bafflement when he sees the two men falling in love--he's always so surprised whenever he's confronted with someone else's queerness!) (crowley's confession!) (sam's final speech--i hate it! "who are you going to turn to instead of me?" screams that dean is not allowed to have interests outside of sam, even though sam has always begged dean to be less of a helicopter and let him live his own life. sam is allowed to have a life away from dean, but dean is not allowed to have a life apart from sam. dean's purpose is to be sam's satellite)

but really, i just love the final scenes. the music! the editing! the "angels... they're falling"--THAT is how you do a season finale! (on the bitter end, i remember just HOW excited we all were for s9. human!cas! in the bunker no less! he was going to live with sam and dean and be a hunter! and then that plan got shot to shit within seconds of the premiere and ground to dust with the wretched 9.03. if you weren't there i don't think you can understand the HUGE resurgence that the destiel fandom had in the hiatus between s8 and s9 and just how BADLY our hopes were shot to shit by s9. when i am critical of spn, know that i am always, at least a little bit, thinking of this)
