This is Gyeran Bbang (Korean egg bread) 🇰🇷 a common street food in Korea. This one has been given a glamorous makeover laced with generous slivers of Tasmanian truffles. Usually I'm wary of the 'F' word otherwise known as 'fusion'. But @souldining does it flawlessly 👌. Superb ingredients, flavour and respect to the original cuisine. I've been back twice already 😅. Stay tuned for the video 🎥. . . . . #sydney #truffles #sydneyaustralia #flatlay #brunch #flatlay #gourmet #foodphotography

Nintendo Direct February 2023 Thoughts!
It’s that time once again when Nintendo announces a new Nintendo Direct with very little warning during a work week and so I don’t have the time to record and edit a reaction video... so here’s a Tumblr post sharing my immediate thoughts on the recent Direct instead. I rather regret not recording my reaction to last year’s September/Farmer Direct but this one... not so much. There was plenty of good stuff featured in this direct, but the stuff that interested me had either already leaked or is a more “that’s cool; I may consider getting it” type response.
Now my favourite pieces of news (oh yeah, spoilers beware if you haven’t watched the direct yet) was the stuff concerning Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-Boot Camp and Kirby’s Return To Dreamland Deluxe. For the former, it’s cool to see it’s beautiful cinematic and to get a new release date. For the latter and it’s Magolor Epilogue mode, the platforming RPG escapade as Magolor effectively ventures through the realm of the dead looks awesome!
The biggest surprise for me was Baten Kaitos receiving not one but two remasters. The fact that Nintendo has remembered these games at all is a huge surprise. They are weird but unique and fun games... and Raphaham’s terrible recollection of the game’s story was one of the funniest conversations I’ve ever had with him. Samba De Amigo: Party Central would have been a surprise if I hadn’t been spoiled on it seconds before the direct. I’m intrigued by it as I do have a decent fondness for rhythm games/sections and the joy-con demonstration with it’s motion controls gave me nostalgic Wii vibes.
The last game I figured I would highlight with it’s own paragraph is Sea of Stars; first game of the direct that had me going “Oooh” and “Ahhh.” It’s a charming looking turn based RPG that I’m sure I’ve seen before but each time it grabs my interest.
Other games/aspects of the Direct that had me intrigued are as follows: Game Boy games on Switch, Ghost Trick HD, Omega Strike, Master Detective Archives: RAINCODE, and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. What did you think of the Nintendo Direct though? Any games catch your interest?

Nintendo Direct July 2023 Thoughts!
I miss E3. I miss having a set time of year to be able to schedule time off so I can watch the onslaught of summer game trailers and reveals live, an not having to worry about sandwiching my viewing experience between work hours.
I did eventually, in the dead of night, manage to watch this latest Summer-time Direct and even after a night’s sleep I’m still unsure what to think of it. There were a games of interest in it but not so much for me specifically and perhaps too much focus on Mario related properties overall.
Let’s get onto some highlights though: Princess Daisy is playable in a mainline Mario game... oh, and there is a new 2D mainline Mario game. Super Mario Bros Wonders is looking pretty awesome, even though it took a while for it to grab my interests. Along with Daisy getting her time to shine, I also like the incorporation of Yoshi as a playable character, but with the capability of carrying other characters as if he were the mount/power-up like before.
On that Mario note, Kamek is playable in Mario Kart! I don’t play Mario Kart 8 but given the long history of Kamek not being playable in Mario Kart despite being planned for Mario Kart 64, this still feels pretty noteworthy and I’m glad for the character.
A new WarioWare game also got announced. I’m... unsure what to think about WarioWare: Move It. It’s likely going to be fun but that’s purely based on the experience of the other WarioWare entries being fun. Given we already had a WarioWare entry on Switch, an having read this article recently, I do feel that a different IP (Rhythm Heaven perhaps, I do believe the same team make them) should have been the focus.
There’s also a new Princess Peach game being worked on... which doesn’t appear to have Perry the Parasol in and so doesn’t appear to be carrying on from Super Princess Peach 2... a game that ended with questions left unanswered. I guess we didn’t really see enough of this outside of it existing, so I’m currently curious but a bit pessimistic (I don’t think my day at work helped my view going in).
This post is getting pretty long so let’s be quick with this non-Mario stuff; Sonic Superstars continues to look great. That game is probably a guaranteed game for me to purchase at this point. Penny’s Big Breakaway is another game that looks pretty fantastic so far and I adore the character design. Headbanger Rhythm Royale seems quite amusing, an whilst Pikmin 4 never was quite my thing, the new entry looks pretty stellar.
So yeah... I’m still unsure about my thoughts to this Mario Direct. What do you think though; any games that interest you? Feel free to say in the Notes.

Xbox Games Showcase 2023 Immediate Thoughts!
That ended, uh, sooner than expected. I thought we were getting 1 hour and a half of the Xbox Showcase and then a half hour Starfield presentation... turns out it was just a single hour for the Xbox Showcase. As I’ve no interest in Starfield, I’m here to share my immediate thoughts on this year’s Xbox Showcase right now.
So we start things off with Fable, which instantly made me happy. The humour is there and the Jack and the Giant Beanstalk theme presented was a surprise. Can’t be sure if gameplay was shown, though didn’t look it and sadly no release date. It exists though and the promise of Fable was what cemented my decision for an Xbox Series X day one. Hopefully it won’t turn out like Fable Legends... which cemented my decision to purchase an Xbox One.
We then follow up the hopefully coincidental theme of small women meeting giants (the Pure Xbox chat got a good laugh out of my joke) with South of Midnight. It doesn’t look like the rumoured harpy game that Compulsion Games were said to be working on but I’ll note myself as intrigued for it.
Avowed popped up and... was a tad disappointing. It looks so far like a more colourful and magic heavy elder scrolls game. My predictions were also off on it being Xbox’s Holiday 2023 game.
Path of the Goddess by Capcom has a lovely artistic flair, both visually and in it’s extra animation flourish to a simple dodge roll. It was a cool sight seeing the protagonist sweep up the inky enemies as if it were a cleaning game.
Jusant was a rare thing to see in this Showcase; a 2023 releasing game. This mountain climbing game feels serene, cute and atmospheric from the trailer alone with a sprinkling of foreboding. If it has a physical release, then this may well be one of my 2023 game purchases alongside Super Bomberman R2 and Sonic Superstars.
Dungeons of Hinterberg; hopefully I spelt that right. Very vibrant action game with plenty of rail grinding and shifting of the camera. Some neat settings were displayed, so this 2024 release is one I shall look out for more info on.
Towerborne turns out to be a co-op fantasy beat em up, which wasn’t what I was expecting but I adore all I’ve seen so far.
The lack of 2023 games was disappointing but it seems like 2024 is going to be pretty packed. As someone who highly favours physical releases, I’m a little weary about getting my hopes up for these games but I do prefer to be optimistic. What are some of the games from this year’s Xbox Showcase that you liked seeing? Feel free to say!

Xbox’s January Developer Direct!
...or should that be the January 2023 Xbox Developer Direct? Regardless, I just watched it so here are my thoughts.
Minecraft Legends - I’m not a fan of Minecraft but I know several relatives who are so I was curious about this one as potential Birthday/Christmas present material. It certainly seems like the type of game my eldest brother would enjoy and there were elements I liked the look of such as the tower defence-like moments.
Forza Motorsport - If I do ever get a Forza game, it will be Forza Horizon 4, but the graphics and weather of this racer do look nice.
Hi-Fi RUSH - Like a combination of Sunset Overdrive and No Straight Roads, this charming beat em upXrhythm game charmed with it’s fun style and humour. A shame it came out suddenly and digitally. I’m preoccupied with all the games I got for Christmas and with many games I want coming out late February/early March.
Elder Scrolls Online - I’m always surprised when I hear this game is still going on but I’ve generally heard good things about. Raphie seemed to like it when he played it.
Redfall - Another not for me game but I do like the multiple safe-house/hideout aspect and the vampire nests do allow for more interesting areas.
Overall though, whilst most the games were not my cup of tea, I did adore the presentation of this games showcase. It was nice to get a decent amount of time seeing each game and hearing the developers discuss them. I’d certainly like to see more of these in this style from Team Xbox.

Grin Brothers turned 7 today!
I really have a hard time keeping track of when I joined certain sites; I think I’ve celebrated the Grin Brother’s YouTube channels 5th anniversary five times at least... and it’s older than this here Tumblr.
Anyway, you may notice that I’ve been retumblering/reblogging a lot more lately. I hear it’s how Tumblr effectively works in terms of getting content out there though I find it very strange. I don’t want to bury a post too soon so that is why you’ll see me only posting a post or reblogging once a day at most (usually when I have a day off work).
In any case, for all who follow this account and especially the YouTube channel this account was made to promote; thank you!

Mario Strikers First Kick Impressions!
Tumblr media
So I didn’t have any Mario Strikers artwork drawn that I could use to spice things up this text post but given that Nintendo Switch Sports relates quite a bit in what I have to say, I feel my artwork of the mascot sportsmate was worth putting in. After all, I passed on buying Nintendo Switch Sports due to the upcoming release of Mario Strikers Battle League Football, feeling I’d rather buy the latter over the former.
Having experienced the latter through two hour long sessions of the First Kick Demo I can now say that said opinion has changed. Demo’s are a glorious way to experience a game beforehand and see what you have to look forward too with a future purchase but they also can dissuade you from a future purchase.
I had my doubts going in with purchasing Mario Strikers Battle League Football due to it’s slim offering of modes and characters but I felt I could look past that due to the fantastic gameplay experience that it would surely offer as a follow-up to Mario Strikers Charged Football. Sadly, changes made between games do not appeal to me. This new Switch game feels strangely stiff in comparison to the Wii entry, having the odd inclusion of an unseen stamina meter and lacking the swift action that came from a Wii-remote waggle tackle. The lack of motion control functions also means that the actions of the goalie are even more limited than they were before an the thrill of the opportunity to prevent a high level Mega Strike through your own skill. It has also proven difficult to keep track of your characters in this Switch game, particularly when changing between characters which feels random and tricky when playing alongside another players.
My experience with Battle League Football was not all bad though; their was certainly a rush of excitement whenever a goal was scored and the mad scramble to stop someone when they had acquired the Hyper Strike power-up was thrilling. Having items scattered across the field rather than given to you also adds a welcome dosage of quick-thinking; whether to prioritise on the ball or grabbing the item on the field. The game is bursting with charm through designs and animations and I surprisingly found the online quite stable. Sadly, these bursts of fun occur within a period of irritation and dull confusion (as opposed to the fun kind of chaos that the Wii game allowed for).
So yeah, I’ll be passing up on Mario Strikers Battle League Football as a result of experiencing it’s First Kick Demo. For those who played the game via it’s demo though, what did you think? Are you still planning to purchase the game? I would love to hear your thoughts. As for myself, it looks like I shall be purchasing Nintendo Switch Sports after all... which I made not one, but two artworks for already.
