I'm so looking forward to iroh and zuko properly talking and seeing irohs reaction to zuko being gay.

Like we all know he doesn't agree with the fire nation rn but how will he react?

Will he not support him cause sokkas a guy? Will he not support him because it's SOKKA? Will he accept him? Will he reveal he's known for years zuko was gay?

Especially with everything that happened with zhao, regarding to what jee said to bato on their date. (Which is a very understandable perspective, zuko just got out of this very sexually traumatising situation and almost immediately starts a relationship (his first relationship) with sokka, but then again it is a very unique situation)

One thing I love about some atla fics is how they portray the FNs thoughts on queerness, cause on one hand they were one of the only country's (I think) that treated men and women the same but then again it's also the fucking fire nation.

And I also think zukos whole canon arc can be very comparative to queerness,

His dads an asshole and after speaking out against him he throws him out, and zuko try's for 3 years to regain his father's love and acceptance, and then faced with the opportunity of regaining it takes it immediately regardless of who or what he may hurt (iroh, his own morals etc) but once he makes it back home realises how fucked up everything is and eventually confronts his dad and openly tells him he doesn't agree with him then runs aways.

I also wonder if iroh secretly knows jee is queer it doesn't seem that likely to me but it also is iroh so who knows.

I do think Iroh’s reaction will be a big moment for not only the story but for Zuko’s character development. Right now, Zuko’s technically still a prisoner, holding himself there by assuming Iroh will not understand or judge him when in reality he’ll never know what his uncle is thinking until they TALK ABOUT IT. (Which the FN royal family is just sooo good at healthy communication I don’t understand why this is so hard for them lol?!)

I do agree that the suddenness of the relationship combined with the intensity from both zuko and Sokka is very alarming for people looking at it from the outside (I mean we all totally get it cause we were there but others are like uhhhh hmmmm ok this might be concerning) so I get them gossiping and wondering if this is truly real or what the fucks going on with those boys.

I love Zukos canon arc because there’s just so much about zukos story that can be relatable no matter who you are and I think that’s why he is a fan favorite (it doesn’t explain why we torture him the way we do but ehhhh it’s fine haha)

Hmmmmmm does iroh know Jees gay? Depends on how saucy those music nights got ;)

so I’ve seen a lot of things where people who ship portwell say that ej lost two girls to Ricky/ricky stole two girls from ej. and while yes in the first season Ricky was actively trying to break nini and ej up that is not the case at all in season three. He stepped back because he saw how happy Gina and ej were together in that moment. he knew that that’s what Gina wanted then and did everything he could bear to help that out. he helped Gina with her promposal. He didn’t throw Gina under the bus after rcosl because he wanted them to figure it out for themselves. and again, he didn’t throw Gina under the bus when she was upset about ej missing her basketball thing. He tried his best to stay out of their relationship and let them figure themselves out when they were going thru problems because he had 👏🏼 character 👏🏼 growth 👏🏼 he didn’t want to meddle. it kinda goes back to season two when Ricky’s mom says “if you truly love someone sometimes the best thing you can do is to let them go” (or something like that, I don’t remember the exact wording). Ricky believed that he should let Gina go. And so he did! he didn’t meddle as season one Ricky would have. he could have confessed to Gina about his feelings at the end of prom but didn’t because he saw that she was hurting. and again, later, he had the opportunity to do so again and didn’t because he found out Gina and ej had broken up. he loved Gina even if he didn’t realize it and only kissed her once she made the move first. They had a whole MONTH in between the end of camp and the documentary trailer premiere! And I saw someone say that it’s “lazy writing” and portwell had been built up from season one with everything and rina only had like ten scenes with zero chemistry at all… uh, bffr. Coming from someone who worshipped rini, all I can say is that I never felt any chemistry between ej and Gina. yes I will admit the things they did were borderline cute but as someone who went from not trusting Gina to loving her, I was team Gina, to be quite honest with you. I just wanted her to be happy. And if that’s with ej, if that’s with Ricky, whoever(but not Mack) then there you go. the writers decision not mine. but the people who say that “rina really didn’t have anything in season one or two” don’t understand the point of a mid game ship. They don’t understand that Ricky had given up on Gina. Ricky and nini barely interacted post homecoming! until Gina left. Ricky thought she was gone forever, Gina thought she was gone forever, and so I hate to paint nini as the “only choice left” but the fact remains that Ricky regressed and undid all of the growing he had done with Gina to be with nini. and they were not gonna last, as I said, I loved them dearly, but by the first episode of season two you could tell it wasn’t going to be the same. and then Gina and Ricky barely interacted over the course of season two. why? Because Gina was heartbroken, obviously, and they never got closure over her post finale confession. she wanted something so bad but saw that she couldn’t have it so she found someone who made her feel an inkling of what she felt for Ricky. and people say that ej did this and this and this and constantly supported her but like… he brought her a granola bar to pick her up at the airport. um, okay, skip on to the next please? they had a heart to heart where Gina basically inflated his huge ego (I’m sorry, I love ej but he was a lil cocky in the first couple seasons) and… what else? “Saved” her in the hallway? by pretending to be her boyfriend? and portwells can say all they want but the fact remains is that the confession scene from Gina was filmed in season one, the post homecoming scene in Ricky’s car changed everything for tim and the rest of the show, rina won, and everybody’s happy. because ultimately, that’s all I’ve wanted for anyone on this show. I just wanted them to be happy. and if you truly love this show you’d be wanting that for the characters too.

Okay I'm back and this time its not with a song but another au. Listen, Ballet dancer Steve, I literally cannot stop thinking about it. Like, his father made him do sports like a real man, following in his footsteps etc (hence the basketball and swimming). But his mother insists he do ballet from a young age (maybe she always wanted a daughter?) And this is something she is not backing down on - as much as his dad hates it. And Steve is loathe to admit it to anyone - especially his parents - but he actually really enjoys it?

He goes to all the lessons, takes extra classes, not telling anyone and working it around his sports that he's got that season. Clears out his living room and practices at home, folds his laundry while casually stretching and doing the splits.

The first people to know are Dustin and Robin, and it's nice having someone know and not insult him the way he knows Tommy and Carol would have. Spitting slurs and calling him a pussy. Hes super self conscious about this thing he loves, but isn't goin to admit that either. Eventually Dustin doesn't bat an eye when he tells him he can't hang out that day, he's got ballet. Just complains like a normal teen that they haven't hung out in ages, God Steve. Robin will occasionally ask him to try and teach her ballet positions at their sleepovers. She doesn't tease him for this, and he doesn't tease her when she stumbles or trips over her own feet.

And then he meets Eddie, and he befriends Eddie, and he's crushing on Eddie. And I absolutely want Eddie to be someone who walks in on him and finds out, rather than being told. Mostly because Eddie would have a heart attack seeing Steve in his ballet tights, muscles on show, strong and graceful as fuck.

I’m getting billy Elliot vibes??? A little???? Maybe in a different life (or this one, who knows with him) Murray is a ballet teacher and is the one that taught Steve, cue comedic relief ‘you’ve got to be the swan Steve. No not like that, Swans don’t look like they are constipated and experiencing violent diarrhoea at same time steve come ON! From the top!’

How about Eddie catches him when he’s cooling down one day. Steve is in his living room with his headphones on, listen to billy Joel and just trying to relax his muscles out while zoning out to his music. Eddie just walks into the house because of course he does and Steve’s music is so loud he doesn’t hear a thing so when he opens his eyes he makes eye contact with Eddie who’s been standing in the doorway for god knows how long. Both of them speechless, both of them flushed but maybe for different reasons. Cue Dustin barrelling in after Eddie, ‘hey Steve, eddie drove me over, I knew you’d be busy. I’ve got this lasagna from mom, she said make sure you freeze some. Hey do you think you could kick somebody in the head? I’m just saying, I think it would be a good idea to try, self defence yknow?’

Neither Steve nor Eddie has said a word or moved. Both too scared to incase the other bolts. Dustin prompts them ‘don’t you think so eddie?’

‘What Henderson? What did you say?’

‘That Steve should practice kicking people in the head! Would be great for surprise attacks’

Eddie is on the verge of brain static again before saying louder than he meant to ‘can I be the target?’ They make eye contact and steve gives Eddie the most tentative smile, suddenly bashful but something must switch in his brain because then he’s looking directly at Eddie and fucking winks
