Oh hey, the system requirements for BG3 got updated: The game now needs to be installed on a SSD, even under minimum requirements.
Edit after release: The game is playable even on a HDD, I can confirm this myself. There even is a setting to compensate for the lack of reading speed (although some textures still take some time to load sometimes). In their launch preparation post Larian say they "highly recommend" playing with a SSD, though. I am very glad it's not a hard requirement!

Maybe tumblr can help spread this- I need a lot of help. All of our family money right now is going towards our ill dog, and I need help saving up for a replacement PC after mine went kaput- my only way of working and making money to support myself... and pc parts aren't exactly cheap right now, especially in Canada. Any little bit helps, and I deeply appreciate any signal boosting you can do. Life is very hard for me and my father lately, and I'd be so grateful if I am able to replace my PC sooner than later. I'd like to be able to continue helping him with our baby girl.
If you can help out a weird lil queer transman to continue contributing to his family, well, you're a real one.

just once, just fucking once I would like to have a reasonably productive long weekend instead of spending most of it too stuck in decision paralysis to actually do much of anything until I reach a point where I feel like I could very well break down crying because I’m too overwhelmed with everything I need to do but I still don’t actually do most of it because the decision paralysis is a huge part of what makes me so fucking overwhelmed in the first place
like. right now probably the most urgent thing is a semi-complicated Etsy commission that the buyer would ideally receive by Dec. 10, which probably means sending it Dec. 7 at the absolute latest. so I should be working on that, right? but it’s going to take a while so it’s a time commitment, especially because it seems kind of pointless to get out a lot of messy supplies to only work on it for a few minutes. and I need to order parts for a different order--well, at least that’s quick. I also really need to reapply thermal paste to my CPU as soon as I can because I think the fan’s getting louder and that can’t be good for anything in there, and theoretically it won’t be that hard, but realistically I’m sure it’s going to take a while and I have to look up a little info on how to do it, first--and it involves my PC being out of commission while I’m working on it, so that’s not something I can do halfway. and while my PC’s open I really need to replace my dead hard drive, which wouldn’t be that hard except I want to install the new one alongside the old one so I can try to clone the dead one onto the new one, which will definitely take time on both the hardware and software sides of things, but it needs to happen sooner rather than later because, again, there’s a lot of stuff I can’t do until I get that done. and I need to send the recent invoices for Hazy’s dental appointment to pet insurance to see if they’ll pay anything, and that should be quick, but nothing ever stays simple. and, shit, I should really do some actual work this weekend because I didn’t get enough done before...and I still need to decide what to do about the vision therapy thing now that it’s clear the best they can do for me is a payment plan for like 36 expensive appointments, ugh. and ah shit I signed up for Yuletide and I’ve done almost nothing, and that’s due...Dec. 17? fuck, that reminds me, I gotta go get a new notebook from my room because I just finished this one, I mean that’s quick and easy but it also means I now have two notebooks that mostly aren’t typed up, which is bad because I can’t do anything with the contents until they’re typed up and of course they’re not backed up (unless I put them in my fireproof safe, and then I’d never get them typed), and typing those is going to take forever, and yeah I’ve been meaning to make it easier on myself by just doing like 15 minutes a day but I haven’t done that at all and they really need to get typed--and, well, I could just do a 15-minute stint, sure, but that seems silly when there’s so much that needs to be done--and, ugh, I’ve sorta been ignoring my email for the last three days and I need to go through that because otherwise I’m guaranteed to miss something I won’t want to miss, but that takes time and it’s going to mean opening up more tabs when there are already too many tabs open (there are always too many tabs open) and I need to deal with those too, and a good share of the emails are probably about Black Friday sales that I’ll probably want to do but that means more tabs and more decisions and shit there’s all that stuff in my Etsy cart that I should really buy sooner rather than later because sometimes Etsy stuff disappears or sells out and then I’ll be sad and frustrated with myself and also some of the things I want to buy are for gifts, which reminds me that I have almost no Christmas gifts yet for anybody, and my birthday is soon so I should probably make some kind of list myself but actually why am I focusing on that at all when the Georgia runoff elections that determine Senate control are in barely more than a month and I need to be writing letters/postcards to voters since I don’t want to phonebank and time zones actually make it really impractical anyway? I was going to do that in a reasonable way this time too, just a few letters a day like I meant to before, use up a lot of these stamps and stuff I still have--and ah fuck it’s been a while since I’ve called my own legislators about anything, I need to do that, that’s theoretically quick because voicemails cut me off at two minutes, although to be able to do that I also have to do at least a little research so I know what’s the most important thing to call about and what to say so that’s more tabs and more time, and I still haven’t fucking reposted the tiny little Endgame fix-it fic I wrote at the end of August, let alone finished anything since then
and I would, on some level, like to work on one of the many, many writing projects that is theoretically close to being done, or one of the recent ones I started because I foolishly and incorrectly thought it was something I could bang out quickly
and on some level I would also like to work on more stuff for Etsy that could be pre-made so it’s not another stress point when I get orders, especially because several things are holiday-specific and some wouldn’t even take that long, but I’d still be choosing to do those instead of more urgent things
and none of that even begins to touch other stuff, like my room that continues to be a disaster and I need to sort through my shit so I know whether I can relist my most popular Etsy item (if I even want to, which I don’t right now because stress), not to mention all the stuff I need to clear out by listing on eBay, and I could do at least one part of that (flatten the boxes I’ve saved for shipping) without committing to a week-long project but even that part would take a solid chunk of time that I should be spending on something more urgent
and we can’t even put up the fucking tree until I move some of my shit away from the spot where the tree goes, which is tough because a lot of it is from work or otherwise theoretically temporary stuff that doesn’t have an actual home, so that’s going to take a while, and then putting up the tree is also going to take a while, and my room is already a disaster so I’d need to clean in there to make room, which would take forever, and for that matter my areas of the living room are generally a disaster too, as always
and while I’m thinking about stuff I brought from work, let’s go back to how I need to do some work stuff because I’m lucky enough to have a decent job with good insurance that can be done from home and I’m still just like...kiiiiiiinda endangering that by not being a functional adult in general? which is at least partly because my brain is a dumpster fire that doesn’t seem to be improving (which is something else to worry about) but regardless of the cause I still have to do something about it? oh yes and speaking of the good insurance I’m kinda endangering by being a fuckup, haha sure hope this knot under my jaw doesn’t turn out to be...you know, the type of bad thing that a knot under the jaw could turn out to be! which is another very good reason I need to stop being a fuckup so I’m not maybe endangering the job that would pay for that, along with all my other medical issues! and also the entirety of our rent because my mom’s really high-risk and the only available jobs she’s qualified for aren’t safe for her to do!
and my knee hurts! and my elbow hurts! and my neck fucking hurts, my head and neck always hurt and I think I’ve been sleeping even worse than usual lately, partly because neck pain and partly just my body fucking hates me, it’s always a problem and I don’t know what to do about it anymore
and now it’s after 8:30 pm and obviously I’ve done none of this, and I’m still tired, and my head and neck still hurt, and there are still so many things I need to do but I can’t choose because the time-consuming things are the urgent ones but I don’t have the time or energy for them and choosing a specific thing (an urgent time-consuming thing, or a less urgent but much quicker thing) means actively choosing not to do one of the other things, and it’s all important, and I can’t fucking choose, and I’m pretty much at a point where I can continue running ever more painful and crazy-making circles in my brain trying to make myself decide something or I can say “fuck it” and do something that would be fun but not urgent or important at all, which I shouldn’t do, so for fuck’s sake I should just pick even one productive thing to do and then maybe let myself do something fun and then get to bed at a good time for fucking once but I still can’t fucking choose and I want to either cry, scream, or possibly hurt myself, and none of this is healthy or productive
and I think possibly my therapist is getting impatient with me for not making much progress and not really having specific goals for our sessions aside from “I hate that my brain is Like This and I want it to not be Like This and no I haven’t done most of the things you’ve suggested and no I don’t have a good reason why, I just want the meds to work so everything won’t be so fucking hard and yes I know that wouldn’t be something you could control even if it was in your wheelhouse, which it isn’t, but I get overwhelmed so fast and I know I need to do better and be better but I don’t know how”
and I wrote this instead of actually doing anything, apparently, because there was at least some chance that dumping it all out would make me feel better or help me see more clearly what I actually need to do, but I think I actually made myself feel worse by articulating just how overwhelmed I am, mostly by things that objectively aren’t actually that difficult or important.
and I still can’t fucking choose.

Thoughts on the Oculus Quest and VR after One Week
Last week, I obtained an Oculus Quest, fulfilling a goal I had for this year of buying my first VR headset. I’ve been really interested in VR for years, and now feels like a great time to get into it, if you have the dough. Since I’m still fairly uncomfortable with traveling, I figured a headset would allow me to escape to faraway lands from the comfort of my studio apartment. The Quest in particular was enticing because, unlike most powered headsets, it doesn’t require a tether to an expensive PC or console. Now that I’ve had some time with it to explore the headset and some apps, I’d like to talk through my first impressions here.
Tumblr media
The Oculus Quest
I got the 64 GB Oculus Quest through Amazon for $400, and I feel like it’s important to say that upfront. I recognize it’s a privilege just to be able to afford something like this right now, let alone have a decent job that allows for it. VR is not as cheap as it should be yet, but I think it will be within the next five years or so.
64 GB is plenty so far, and I can’t see the size limit becoming a problem for a while. Maybe once more premium apps like Half-Life Alyx hit the Quest I’ll regret it, but for now I’m totally happy with the smaller hard drive. The controllers are super comfortable and responsive, though figuring out left from right takes some getting used to, especially with something blocking your vision. But it’s easy enough once you realize that the second trigger is on the inside of the controller, so the wrong orientation will feel awkward. The device and controllers are very portable, if awkward to transport because of their shape and fragility. I expect I’ll have to purchase a carrying case for them sooner or later, but for now a backpack has sufficed.
The headset itself is truly a wonder. The four cameras on the front can create a live black and white feed of your surroundings so you don’t bump into things if you walk with it on, and they can even track just your hands for additional control options (currently in beta). The straps allow for easy size adjustments, and they’re tough enough that I don’t feel like they’ll wear down any time soon. There’s a slider for the lenses to adjust your viewing angle if things still look blurry, and the lenses themselves blend nicely into your vision, so you truly feel like you’re in another place with the headset on and running. The built-in speakers only heighten this effect, providing a surround sound experience in a small package. There are headphone jacks on the sides of the headset as well, but I haven’t had cause to use them yet.
The hub interface experience is fairly smooth, and you can choose your background environment for it from several thematic choices. Getting around the menus is easy enough, but it can be hard to know what to look for or even where to start. There are a few free demos, but after that you’re on your own to discover what’s best for you. Since VR is still so new to most people, I would like a little more guidance there, but I’m enjoying the process of discovering things for myself too. One nice thing is every game is listed with a comfort rating, so you know which are likely to give you motion sickness and which are basically 3D movies.
Tumblr media
Beat Saber
It’s no secret Beat Saber is one of the most successful VR games so far, and it lives up to the hype. It’s a rhythm game where you have to slash at different colored blocks with the corresponding saber, in time with the music and in the right direction. You also dodge obstacles on occasion, either by leaning or ducking. This sounds simple, but it allows for a ton of different patterns and complexity. The best levels have really satisfying sequences to perform, and it does almost feel like conducting or drumming along with the music. The main campaign is surprisingly lengthy and difficult. At one point, it starts to require you to go against your instincts and mess up songs on purpose in order to not let your combo go above a certain number or to hit a required number of misses. I’m sure they were added to give the game some more mechanical depth, but I’m not sure they’re necessary. Fortunately, there’s also a solo mode and leaderboard where you can play any song you have access to on any difficulty you like. I haven’t bought more songs yet, but I suspect I will before long. Overall, this is an easy game to recommend and a must-play for anyone with access to VR.
Tumblr media
The Climb
I’m a novice rock climber who hasn’t been able to go to a gym since March, so this game caught my eye. It gives you the experience of free soloing (climbing tall, long routes without a harness or other people) and bouldering (climbing very short but difficult routes, which is the style I prefer in real life). So far, I’ve only tried the tutorial, and I’m still working up the courage to go back. The game gives me a lot of vertigo and kind of freaks me out, as your character screams for their life whenever you fall (which, in the tutorial at least, will happen often as you learn the controls). Falling is a very real part of climbing, but if you’re doing it right, you should never get hurt. Free soloing is only really attempted by the most expert climbers, and even many of them die in their attempts. A better way to experience it though is through the Free Solo 360 VR documentary by National Geographic, which is free on the app store and thrilling to watch, just like the regular doc. I’m sure I’ll go back to this game soon, but I’m not sure how long it’ll take me to get used to falling in VR.
Tumblr media
National Geographic VR
This game is very cute and allows you to play the part of a National Geographic photographer in Machu Picchu and Antarctica. So far I’ve only started the Machu Picchu route, but I really like it. Your producers tasks you with getting different shots, and you have several locations to choose from in each area. Not very deep, but the views are great.
Tumblr media
Job Simulator
In Job Simulator, you play a boring, everyday employee for sentient, floating robot TV’s in a few different roles, and it’s awesome. There’s tons of physics objects to play with, which is definitely one of my favorite parts of VR. The writing is clever, the world is cartoon-like and inviting, and it’s much better than actual work. This is another game I’d strongly recommend for VR beginners like myself.
Tumblr media
Netflix VR
As weird as it sounds, I like Netflix in VR. The TV in the environment seems much larger than the one I own in real life, so it feels bigger even though it’s virtual. I like the cabin setting and atmosphere, and it beats staring at my apartment walls. I was able to watch several episodes of Death Note in a row pretty easily, although the headset does start to feel heavy after a while. I wouldn’t say this is the ideal way to stream TV by any means, but it’s worth a try as a fun distraction.
Other Odds and Ends
I’ve dabbled with various other apps and games so far, as one does when one acquires a new electronic toy. I started the tutorial of Vader Immortal Episode 1, and it has you deflecting lasers and slashing robots just like a Jedi, so I’m excited to start that game properly. I was able to hook up my headset to my PC in order to try Google Earth, and it’s great. I don’t think my PC will be able to handle much else, however, so I’m thinking about upgrading it relatively soon. It is nice to know, though, that all you need to make the connection now is a USB 2.0/3.0 to USB-C cable. Until May, you had to buy a special $80 cable directly from Oculus, so I’m glad they removed that barrier. I still feel weird about Superhot in VR. I’ve tried it once before, and the demo still felt awkward to me this time. You have to be so precise in Superhot that dodging bullets while attacking and moving becomes really strenuous, and I don’t think the game really accommodates that well.
Next Steps
All that said, I’m looking forward to digging into all the games I’ve only touched the surface on as well as exploring new things. I’ll try to continue to document my thoughts here so you can all share in my journey with me. I’m coming to realize that VR time is separate from my regular gaming time, in that the experience is totally different. It’s not a replacement for the games I own already; it’s an expansion on a medium and still very new. But there’s something very freeing and magical about VR that comes with the masking of the senses and trickery that the headset provides. Very soon, within the next three to five years even, I think it’ll be much more commonplace.
Thank you for reading if you got this far! And let me know what comments or questions you have here or on Twitter. :)

All-Glitch Pokemon Blue Run Pt9: Controlling Corruption
Tumblr media
June,
I’ve just received your report that you have captured a Gengar. I don’t know how you’ve done it, but please allow me to repeat myself: if you’re going after C3 next, please be very careful. Gengar is known for being one of the least predictable and friendly of normal pokemon; Gengar’s glitch hybrid is even worse.
-Professor Gingko
---
Professor,
You can stop worrying now. I’ve just captured C3 successfully. There was no horrible song this time, and he was a lot more coopertive this time around.
Tumblr media
I’m actually grateful I got the chance to do this. I think I normally would have been terrified of seeing C3 again, but now that I’ve captured one, he’s really not so bad. He’s quite a musical critter. Sometimes when I take him out of the PC, he trills for a very long time for me. It’s almost sort of sweet. Maybe we misjudged C3 a little.
Oh, but also, hey! While I was out hunting C3, I captured a new glitchmon! My Dex says it’s called C6.
Tumblr media
Apparently it’s a hybrid of Poliwrath. It seems to share its stats and starting moves with Poliwrath, too. I named him Azure, because he’s a lot of very pretty shades of blue. I’m starting to get quite a large team of glitchmon by now! I may not have the time to raise them all, but it’s always good to have a choice.
-June
---
June,
Goodness, you’ve been making rapid progress. That new pokemon you captured is indeed C6. You need to be careful while raising him, though; he learns Superglitch upon level up quite a number of times.
Actually, considering the pace of your progress, what would you say to trying out a more advanced technique? If you succeed, you’ll be able to access a very exotic and unique species of glitchmon. The downside, of course, is that it involves some risk. You’d be working with Superglitch directly.
What do you think? I won’t ask you to give it a try unless you truly wish to.
-Professor Gingko
---
Professor,
I’ll need to learn how to handle Superglitch sooner or later. It may as well be now. Besides, I think I’m ready.
-June
---
Very well. You’ll need to follow my instructions exactly.
You must return to Celadon’s Mansion. Go to the same place you taught your C2 to forget Superglitch. You’ll need a fair number of Rare Candies, so I’m afraid you might need to duplicate those by exposing them to Missingno., if necessary. Also, ensure you have a full party of six pokemon before you begin. Be mindful of who you place in your sixth slot. Your new friend will be inheriting some things from that sixth pokemon.
Now, arrange C6′s first three moves like such; Body Slam, Water Gun, Mega Kick. (You may need to teach him Mega Kick yourself, but there’s a large department store in Celadon that I’m sure carries TM05.) Proceed to then feed C6 his Rare Candies. He may try to evolve, so startle him out of evolution if he tries it. Once C6 reaches level 24, he will wish to learn Superglitch. Let him forget his final move to replace it.
Then you must locate a small house in Celadon where an old man lives. I believe his house is right next to a diner. I . . . know this sounds crazy, but trust me, this is very relevent. In his house are a couple sculptures of Diglett. You must go stand right beside them. Then, use your Glitchdex to examine your Pokemon menu. Once you are done, leave the house and do not touch your Glitchdex again for the time being.
Go directly to some tall grass and encounter a wild pokemon. Engage in battle, using your C6. Act as though you are about to issue a battle command for your C6. Then simply flee from battle. You do not need to actually fight. Superglitch is so powerful a move, that even allowing your pokemon to think about the move is enough for it to exert a powerful influence.
Once you had fled . . . well. I think you’ll notice exactly what’s going on. Let me know when you do and I can guide you from there.
-Professor Gingko
---
Professor,
I did exactly as you said. Are you sure this is supposed to happen, though? When I entered battle and called Azure’s name . . .
Tumblr media
Uhhh, the wild pokemon turned into a weird glitchy mess. And my Glitchdex’s screen did this funny freak out as you see above. I got the heck out of there in a hurry. Once we’d left the grass, though, I noticed how heavy my belt was.
I have, like, sixteen pokeballs now?! They don’t even all FIT. What’s going on? Where’d they even COME from?
-J̶̨̧̡̢̧̧̛̙̣̹̞̳͕̲̥͎͔͚͕̞̤͕̫̱̗̮͍̟̟̘̪͖̟̭̻̣͚̥͔̞̥̣͔̜̟͓̹͈͕̣̫̍̍͛̽̀́̎̓̾̒̀̀̂̈́̀͌̔̇̋̍̎̃̿͆͗̂͊̀̀̈́̐̈̔̒̏̿̎̀̃̈̓͌̌̽̿̄͐̓͘͘͜͜͝͠ȗ̷̧̧̨̢̘͚̣̝̫̫̟̗̞͚̝͇͕̯̯̺̘̰̟̻̟͖̱̙̪̝̤̠̥͙͓̠͙̣̱̜̫̩͖͔̰̲͍̻̖̠̭̪͈̭̭̂̌́̿́͐̋̽͆̆͌͊͆̋͂̋̑͛̈́̌͌̉́́̌̃̈́̀̌̄̇̈́͆̅̈̓́̕̕̕͝͠͝͝͝ͅn̸̢̨͕̤͎̜̼͙̞̳͈̯̫̟̜͖̘̮̯̭͔͚̺̱͙̗͓̩̱͈͖̬͇͙̓̏̈́̔̊͜ͅͅȩ̶̡͈̱̺̳͍̥̳̝̙͙̺̺̥̰̳̙̟̤̦̜̠̜̙̼̈́̽̃̓͐̌͐͌͂̅́̌̇͌̋́͂̇͌̾̿̀̄́́̇̇̀̈́͊̏̚͠͝͠ͅ
---
June,
Keep a steady head. I know things are a tad strange, but I assure you it’s all according to plan.
Head back to the Pokecenter. Deposit your regular party pokemon first. Then switch boxes and deposit the rest of the lot. It shouldn’t take too long. Once you do, retrieve your original party again.
After that, I need you to go back to Cerulean City. That’s a bit of a walk, I know, but it’s important. Try to avoid any trainers on your way. They might . . . err, look a bit odd to you right now.
Once in Cerulean, you need to stand in the southeast part of town. In particular, the white path just below the treeline for the main part of town. In VERY particular, the lower left corner of the end of that path. Once at that exact spot, open your Pokemon menu. Close it and don’t look at it again for the moment. Head directly to some tall grass and once again encounter a wild pokemon with your C6. Do the same as before, then run.
I promise this isn’t just for the exercise.
-Professor Gingko
---
Professor,
All right, I deposited those weird extra pokemon and then I walked ALL the way back to Cerulean and stood here.
Tumblr media
This is the right spot, right? I hope so. Then I encountered a wild pokemon. After we ran away, I have to say I felt . . . a little strange. That happened the first time, too, actually. I dunno, my head felt funny. I thought maybe it was just a headache. You think maybe it’s related to the Superglitch thing?
And another question; do I get to check out the new weird pokemon I got now?
-June

Tumblr media
Glitchdex #: C6/198
Family: Poliwrath Hybrid
Type(s): Water/Fighting
Species Keyword: SPACESEED
When Poliwrath is exposed to a special Moon Stone that is especially powerful, the resulting pokemon becomes warped and mutated. It may later try to evolve into other Moon Stone pokemon.

PART 12 - videos #22 & 23
(Click here for video mirrors) - These are not my words or thoughts, I’m just summarizing what Greg / James is saying in his videos. Apologies for any offensive language or comments that may appear. - I am not repeating stories anymore and will replace these stories with brackets describing what he’s talking about. If you don’t know these stories you’re going to have to go back and read previous parts or watch his previous videos.
the past
- Another email. Person says Greg and Shiloh’s relationship reminded them of their relationship with their ex. Their ex would fake mental illness and fake episodes when they would try to leave. Greg says Shiloh would fake seizures around when they had arguments or when he tried to break up with her so that makes sense. [Shiloh popped out of seizure after he threatened to call ambulance story] He says that’s why he knew they were fake and why he didn’t take them seriously. He just thought that’s who she was and thought she was just weird. - Person says this type of manipulation only works on people who want to help. Greg says his hero complex is pathetic and he hates it. He doesn’t want to save people because it always screws him over. Except with Kai, but Kai didn’t need to be saved because he had his whole life planned out. He was going to be a surgeon, but instead Greg helped him get a bachelor's degree in psychology by spending $100,000. He says it was cool he got to help Kai with that. - Person says if Greg was still with Shiloh, he’d be living in fear. They list aspects of his life they believe she would control. Greg says the only thing she controlled was if he looked at a women, h-e-n-t-a-i, or p-o-r-n she’d freak out on him. She’s very jealous. - Person describes their relationship with their ex more. Greg says Shiloh didn’t try to ruin his life until she started doing interviews, 8 years after [Shiloh cheated story, he never jerked off to her crying] - Person talks about the impact their relationship had on them 6 years later, trust issues, avoid people, push people away. Greg says Shiloh did not have that impact on him. - Person says what Shiloh did to Greg was abuse. Greg says he feels putting the label of abuse on what Shiloh did to him is not what he wants to do right now. [Shiloh wrapped arms around him story.] He says she wanted him to do something bad to her so she could use that to guilt trip him. He realized in that moment some guys lash out and hit because they are backed into a wall and don’t know what to do. He was tested and he doesn’t hit. He giggles like the Joker, but in more of a pussy boy way. Shiloh weighed the same as him and was very strong and he didn’t want to fight it because he was afraid he’d hurt her. He doesn’t want to say he was abused because as a man it doesn’t feel normal. - Another fan email. Greg says he doesn’t have a perfect memory, but he has a pretty good one, he doesn’t have BPD, doesn’t have Alzheimer’s, so he has a normal brain besides his depression that he was diagnosed with. He says no one knows all the facts. If there’s a god, he or she might. - Person says they think there are details on both sides that aren’t being told. Greg says he doesn’t know what that means. He tells us stuff as it comes to his mind. - Person says Greg doesn’t have to prove his innocence unless he’s charged and even then he doesn’t have to prove himself to strangers online. Greg says the problem is the strangers online can harass you, SWAT you, send you horrible things in the mail, constantly make meat pizza deliveries to you. Every pizza company in the area should know by now not to deliver pizzas to him because they’re pranks and they’re wasting time and money. People don’t care if they’re stealing from companies, or if they make illegal calls to emergency agencies, or if they’re wasting animal control’s time. That’s why he has to establish innocence to the general public. [Internet is guilty until proven innocent when it should be innocent until proven guilty rant] - Person says they are 37 year old woman who works in law enforcement and it makes them sick that people are going so hard on someone who has yet to be charged with a crime. She says she wanted to show support and tells him to stay strong. He says that’s cool. [People don’t care about real crimes rant.] - Says his relationship with Shiloh was toxic and he’s glad he broke up with her. He should have broken up with her sooner. [Called police on Shiloh story, he ran away to LA.] He says a month ago he found out he could have gotten a restraining order against her. [Shiloh made him feel like she was the one, cheated.] If you raise someone else’s baby and they got pregnant with someone else you never met before while you were dating them, you’re a cuck. He’s happy to date a single mom, but not in that situation.
reality
- He want to bring some of you to reality. He says if you search “onision jail” on twitter you will see the worst things ever said to him. He received an email that said “I can’t wait until you die in jail.” -This is the reality check he hopes we all face: there’s no crime. [Sarah admitted nothing happened until she was an adult, NDA, blackmail.] Billie and Sarah both admitted Sarah was never groomed. People were around and saw them with Sarah so it was obvious she was never groomed. He was mean to her. - People talk about photos being exchanged. They’re talking about Kai, not him. The laptop belonged to Kai. Phone text exchanges is what Kai’s accused of. He 100% believes Kai wouldn’t want to send photos of that nature to someone who is not of age. The photos were not obtained through honest means in his opinion. It’s disturbing someone held onto and released those photos when they knew Kai didn’t want them to have them. He says there were two pictures and they wound up on instagram with parts cropped out. It was not sexual. - Says Regina says photos were exchanged, but he was informed Regina is a liar. Regina has no proof this occurred. He says he doesn’t know about this exchange because he is disinterested in Regina. - [Doorbell rings and dog barks.] Greg comes back and says once again you guys pranked the pizza place, defrauding pizza companies by having them make pizza and not paying for them. They got sent away once again without being payed. You guys are absolute scumbags. - Says Regina is a very ugly girl. He says he knows it comes off as mean, but he doesn’t believe in filters or PC culture. He’s allowed to think someone is ugly or gross. He saw her in a video thumbnail. He’s not trying to get our approval. - Greg says crimes typically have to happen in order for someone to go to jail. What he’s accused of is grooming. It didn’t happen and if it did it’s not a crime. - Greg and Kai backed up all their texts on a cloud so there is no escaping the evidence. He says they would show us, but we would probably try to get him canceled again for “doxing” [air quotes]. If he tries to show proof and defend himself you guys say it’s doxing. If it ever goes to court he’ll unload all the texts from day 1 to the last day. It’ll prove she said she groomed them and there were zero inappropriate photo exchanges. [Kai’s not into p-o-r-n] Except he thinks Kai had guys kissing on his tumblr. - Sarah is a shameful liar. She keeps saying she has evidence yet they’re still free. Greg have her $150 for her birthday because she helped him build a chicken coop. He says it’d be cool if she gave that back because she’s done more than $150 worth of damage with her lies. She also apparently made tens of thousands of dollars off of you guys being gullible. - [His forums were 18+ only] Says there was a rumor the forums were deleted last year when the forums where people submit stuff, onision.xyz, haven’t been around since 2016. There were dead forums up that no one was using. All the submission sections were deleted 2 years ago because there was too much controversy around adults sharing photos. He was just telling people if they were fat or ugly or not. - His discord is adults only and doesn’t even have a selfie section.  - He never exchanged inappropriate picture with anyone. - He says the police representative that was spoken to was the craziest thing because he doesn’t know why you’d comment on an open case. People say there’s 19 calls or investigations. The police have only been to his house 6 times. They’re talking about how many times people called the police, but most of the time they don’t come because they’re sick of people making shit up. - [Sarah was rejected, apologized for r-a-p-i-n-g them, left] He says he bought her the movie Dodgeball. She was mad he didn’t want to watch it with her and that was one of the last interactions they had. He made it up to her by watching another movie. He was trying to make her happier before she left so they wouldn’t be on horrible terms. [His BPD video upset her.] - He doesn’t know why Sarah would watch this video, but if she does he tells her to move on with her life so he can move on with his. He tells her when he was talking about gross smokers, he wasn’t talking about her. She never smoked around him so he wouldn’t be able to taste any smoke nastiness on his tongue. He was talking about Shiree who took his virginity. Sarah internalized everything he said as if it was about her, which is probably part of her mental thing. - If the accusations against Kai were real, they would have went to the police, but instead they went to the internet. As far as he understands Regina promoted a plastic surgery operation, Shiloh promoted a new album, Sarah promoted a Venmo with tens of thousands of dollars. Everyone’s promoting something. - The crime accusations are against Kai, but people don’t talk about Kai because he’s not popular to talk about so they blend what people say Kai did onto him. None of this will hold up in court. The police are being pranked. - [He repeats his earlier points and stories a lot.] Asks if his crime is getting blackmailed and sexually extorted by someone? Says he has witnesses, but not to Sarah apologizing. That was just to him. - He says someone tried to SWAT them but it failed. The police department is fed up by how much people try to troll them. Someone tried to send him mail with powder in it and they shut down the post office because it was dripping liquid and had a hate messages. He says no doubt from one of the moron commentary channel viewers that believed everything they said. Basically threatening his life. His house was egged by teenagers and they looked in his car. He would show us the footage, but he’s saving it for court. They thought they weren’t home because they covered up their windows after Hansen.

Aspects & Fanfics Ep. 10: Getting to Know Wrath: Roman’s Dream Factory
Here comes the 10th entry of the “Aspects & Fanfics” blog, based on “Sanders Sides” by Thomas Sanders & Joan. Who would have thought this would have gone so fast, but this is the 10th episode already. Lately I’ve slowed down in the frequency, though, as entries have been longer lately, and I’m still having technical issues with my PC that I hope to get solved soon. Next week is going to be a busy one for me, so I expect the next entry to get a little delayed too, I hope not too much, however. As always, thank you to each and anyone reading, and I hope this new entry, in which I’m trying new things, is enjoyable. You can read all the previous entries here, I recommend it since this entry makes references to previous entries, including original characters and situations. Remember that this is a forked AU, which means it follows the canon and story of the original “Sanders Sides” up to “Embarrasing Phases”, and from then it goes on independently. And that’s it, enjoy.
SYNOPSIS: Thomas is angry because he has just seen his ex with another guy and that has hurt him, not because he wants him back, but because he feels left behind and unable to find love again. When the only suggestion Wrath can give them is to find something positive to think about, Roman has the idea of taking them to his Dream Factory, the place where he makes Thomas’ dreams, where dream scenarios look completely real, to create positive scenarios inside there that can help Thomas get his anger behind. But it’s one failure after the other when Thomas’ wrath overcomes him and corrupts the scenario each and every time.
WARNINGS: There are going to be dark references along the episodes, including references to past episodes of physical mistreatment to some characters. Character Thomas is going to go through a lot of angst in this episode, there’s a new return to his broken relationship, and he’s going to show a verbally violent attitute in the first part of the story, including insults and bad words (conveniently “bleeped”) against the Sides. The end card will feature a horrible nightmare by Thomas that will further explorer some episodes narrated at the beginning. I tried to introduce cute and heartwarming scenes to compensate these moments, though.
EPISODE INDEX
THOMAS: Okay, all ready to go buy these props for the next project… After so many tries to get them and not finding them, I swear for the thing I love most in this world that I’m not returning to this apartment until I get them all!
[Thomas goes out. There’s a wait of 10 seconds, and he returns]
THOMAS: [chill voice] Forgot my car keys… and my wallet… Still need to find my memory that is forcing me to throw to the trash can the thing I love most, my “Kingdom Hearts” video-games… [he goes out again]
[intro sequence]
[Thomas enters the apartment with an angry face and slams the door behind him. Then, he throws his things furiously to the counter and initially goes to the couch but notices the camera and stands in his spot]
THOMAS: [angrily] What is up, everybody? Yes, I can hear you all wondering what is up with me. Well, you may or may not be interested in hearing about that, but I’m gonna talk about it anyway, who’s gonna have the f… [bleep] guts to stop me!?
PATTON: [rising up] Whoa, whoa, whoa! What’s going on with your language, mister?
THOMAS: Patton, I’m not in the mood for a lecture, right now! So please leave me alone!
HONESTY: [rising up] Okay, I always support being honest, but that was just unnecessary.
THOMAS: And the reason I should care about that bulls… [bleep] is…?
LOGAN: [rising up] Thomas, control yourself! You’re in front of the camera and there are kids watching you!
THOMAS: [yelling] I DON’T CARE WHO’S WATCHING! I DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING ANYMORE! GOT IT, TEACH!? SO SHUT THE F… [bleep] UP!!
[Thomas points at Logan and he covers his mouth. Deceit appears]
DECEIT: I’m sorry, Logan, Thomas is in charge and he’s forcing me to silence you.
VIRGIL: [appearing] Thomas, calm down! There’s no need to be so rude!
THOMAS: [yelling angry and frustrated] My goodness gracious, you too? Can’t I vent like a normal person without suffering the attack of the clones!? Why me!? Why did it have to be me who suffers this curse of having to bear all of you!? Why can’t you all just leave me alone for good, you BOTHERSOME FREAKS!
[Thomas gets silent, breathing fast with a face of despair and anger. Virgil and Logan look at Thomas in shock, Logan still with his hand on his mouth. Deceit and Honesty look at Thomas with a horrified face. Patton looks at Thomas with a mixed face of sadness, shock and disappointment]
PATTON: [voice of deep sadness] Thomas… Is that what you really think about us? That we are freaks and a curse for you? Do you really want us out of your life… for good?
THOMAS: [suddenly realizing what he has said, with a face of horror and voice of remorse] Oh… my goodness gracious… What did I say? I… I’m so sorry, Patton. I’m so sorry, you guys… I… I… I hope you know I didn’t mean what I said.
[Logan takes his hand off his mouth, but he still doesn’t say a word]
PATTON: [same sad voice] Yes, I know you didn’t mean what you said, but you said it anyway, and the pain it has caused is very real.
THOMAS: I have no excuse… I apologize for my behavior, I promise I won’t do it again. Will you please forgive me, all of you?
PATTON: [after a little pause, he lets go a little sad smile] That’s what friends do, right? They forgive each other’s mistakes. What I wonder is, what could have happened to you to make you lose your mind to the point of hurting us like that?
ROMAN: [rising up, in a mood as sad as Patton’s] I’ve got the answer for that, Patton. Thomas is hating himself, and in the process, he’s hating us, because we are himself.
PATTON: But why?
THOMAS: Well, I was at the store, getting some props for a future project that Joan and I are working on, when… I saw him.
PATTON: Him?
ROMAN: Thomas’ ex-boyfriend, Patton.
PATTON: So? I thought that we had already moved forward from him.
ROMAN: I thought so too, but… when Thomas saw him… he wasn’t alone, and that… hurt him… and me, his romantic Side.
PATTON: Oh…
THOMAS: It’s not that I feel jealous, at least romantically, or that I want him back or anything. It’s just that… I suddenly realized that he’s managed to move on. He’s managed to find another one to replace me, and… I felt like… left behind. I know it’s stupid that I feel this way, but I felt again what I felt on the first months after the break-up, thinking that I would never get to find another one like him again. And I hate myself for feeling like that. I hate my insecurity which doesn’t let me step up my game and take the initiative on my quest for… the right one.
VIRGIL: [a little offended] Well, I’m sorry I had it rough and I’m sorry I’m not enough, Thomas.
THOMAS: No, don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t blaming you, Virgil. I know that you, as my anxiety, have no choice other than making me feel anxious about it. The problem is in me, because I’m not strong enough to cope with that, which makes me mad at myself. And I’m sorry I vented my frustration on you, guys. You didn’t deserve anything I said, at all.
LOGAN: Well, Thomas, now that you let me speak…
THOMAS: Sorry about that too, Logan. When someone gets mad like I did, they don’t let logical thinking speak out, and I guess that’s what happened with me and you.
LOGAN: [pulls out a vocab card] It’s water under the bridge, Thomas. As I was saying, now that you let me speak, the problem here seems that you had an outburst of anger, right?
THOMAS: Right…
LOGAN: And who is in control of anger in the Mind Palace?
DECEIT: Wrath. And I know what you’re going to suggest, Logan, that we should summon him or go to see him, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea yet, you guys.
THOMAS: Well, sooner or later he had to make an appearance, Deceit. And if there are issues in his department, he must be held accountable for them like any other Side, isn’t he? I don’t want to force him to be a friend of us if he doesn’t want to, but at least he should have the basic interactions with us regarding his job. I don’t think I’m asking for something so difficult.
DECEIT: Well, you’re in charge, Thomas. [worried face and voice] I’m so calm about this…
THOMAS: I hope he’s not in autopilot this time. If he is, I swear I’m going to the Dark Realm itself to get him here. Wrath! Wrath can you hear me? I demand you to come here right now!
[Wrath appears in his spot. He shows a shy and nervous attitude, with his arms covering his chest, and almost shaking from head to toe]
DECEIT: [mumbles, looking at Wrath with a worried face] Uh-oh…
THOMAS: There you are. Can you explain what has happened right now?
WRATH: [stutters with a face of horror] I… I…
THOMAS: [angry] Don’t stay there like a dummy! [yelling] Say something!
[Wrath shows a face of intense horror and then faints]
THOMAS: [scared] Oh, my goodness!
DECEIT: [running to him] I knew this was gonna happen! [kneels down on him and tries to fan some air onto him] Wrath? Wrath, are you okay? [angry] Thomas, you shouldn’t have been so harsh on him. Don’t you know he’s really scared of social interaction?
THOMAS: No, as a matter of fact, I don’t. He didn’t look scared at all the last time he showed up here.
DECEIT: The last time he was still a servant of the Dark Master. Since then, he’s been all alone and isolated in the Dark Realm, too afraid to make an appearance because he feared what has happened right now. But I didn’t expect that you’d get so harsh on him on first view. What’s wrong with you, Thomas? You’re not being yourself today!
THOMAS: I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I guess I… jumped to conclusions about his character.
DECEIT: Well, I hope that when he wakes up you treat him with a little more tact. Do you think you can do it? Cause he’s my friend and I don’t want him to suffer.
THOMAS: Yes, yes. I’m so sorry. And you’re right, I’m not being myself today. I don’t know why…
[Wrath starts showing signs of life]
WRATH: [mumbling] Sorry… my lord. I’m a piece of junk and I don’t deserve to exist… Please don’t use your whip on me again…
THOMAS: My goodness… He must have had a horrible life while the Dark Master was there…
DECEIT: We all had, Thomas, you’ll never get an idea. Not even if you could see the scars on my back…
ROMAN: [horrified] Oh, my God…
VIRGIL: I can relate to that too…
PATTON: [sad emotional] Oh, my poor, not so little boy…
DECEIT: Yes, Virgil, but you were lucky you could escape to the Light Realm as early as you did. It became a lot worse after you left. The Dark Master wanted to make sure that no one would follow your footsteps if and when we had the chance. And he didn’t care that, until Thomas heightened us for some reason, if that was ever going to happen, we were trapped in the Dark Realm with no possible escape from him. In time, he had nullified us so much we just resigned to do his evil will, and even did it with joy. So brainwashed we were that we thought everything he did to us was normal, deserved and fair, even that it was for our own benefit and we should be thankful to him. [chuckles ironically] We were such a bunch of fools…
THOMAS: Thank God that’s over.
DECEIT: At least for the time being… [to Wrath, noticing he’s waking up] Wrath. Wake up, buddy.
WRATH: [regains full consciousness] What has happened…? [notices Thomas is there and starts shaking in horror]
DECEIT: [soft voice, holding his shoulders] Calm down, my friend. Calm down. It’s okay. He’s not gonna hurt you.
THOMAS: I’m so sorry, Wrath. I didn’t mean to be so harsh. Could we start again, please, and do as if nothing had happened?
WRATH: Yes, my lord, if you want me to, my lord…
THOMAS: What?
[Wrath gets up with Deceit’s help, who then goes back to his spot]
WRATH: It won’t happen again, my lord. Please, don’t hurt me.
THOMAS: I’m not going to hurt you, Wrath, what are you talking about?
DECEIT: Wrath, you remember that this is not the Dark Master you’re talking to, right?
WRATH: [realizing] Oh, I guess so… It’s just that… for a moment you looked so much like him…
DECEIT: Well, of course he looks like him, the Dark Master was Thomas’ doppelganger.
WRATH: I mean in the attitude. I wasn’t sure if it was Thomas or… him.
THOMAS: Oh, my gosh… Have I really been so horribly harsh? I’m terribly sorry, Wrath. It never was, and will never be, my intention to hurt you. You’re safe here with us, you have nothing to be afraid of while you’re with us. It’s just that, today, I can’t control my anger, and I don’t know why. And that’s exactly why I called you, to see if you, my wrath, could give me some answers about it.
WRATH: Well, typically I’m triggered when you experience things that upset you for some reason. Is there anything that has bothered you recently?
THOMAS: Well, yes.
WRATH: The strongest that feeling is, the strongest I’m triggered, and the strongest your anger will be. If possible, you must solve whatever has bothered you and calm yourself before I can get calmed down.
LOGAN: Well, to know that we wouldn’t have needed to call you in the first place…
WRATH: Sorry I cannot be of more help, Logan, but that’s how it is. My advice is that you get positive thinking, imagine happy thoughts and distract yourself from whatever is hurting you.
THOMAS: Well, Roman, Patton, I guess it’s your turn then. You’re in control of my happy thoughts and my imagination. You’ll have to work as a team so that we can get out of this loop.
PATTON: You can say that a…
ROMAN: [annoyed] Stop it, Patton!
PATTON: Sorry…
ROMAN: Okay. I think I know what you need so you can think about something else. You need an evasion from the real world.
LOGAN: [concerned] What?
ROMAN: We’re going to my special playground in the Mind Palace, where I like to test some of my ideas when they’re in the beta phase.
HONESTY: I don’t like the sound of this…
ROMAN: [ignoring him] Let’s all go to Roman’s Dream Factory!
[Roman snaps his fingers, and they all appear in a huge room that is completely empty, with no kind of furniture, decoration… Only stone walls made of perfect square gray ashlars in all directions]
THOMAS: Um… where are we?
ROMAN: I told you, Thomas, this is Roman’s Dream Factory. Here is where I test your ideas and dreams before I release them in your mind so that you can pursue them.
VIRGIL: [checking around] No windows, no doors, no lamps, even though this is illuminated by I don’t know what… This looks more like a crypt than a factory… [grins] I like it.
ROMAN: Well, it wouldn’t be safe to let uncontrolled unfinished dreams to get away out of control. This is like… some sort of… bubble where they can’t escape till they’re tested.
VIRGIL: What would happen if they got away unfinished or faulty?
ROMAN: Oh, that has never happened… except when Thomas is sleeping. Then the walls get weak and some of them slip out between the ashlars. Then they wander around the Mind Palace until they’re caught by the dream vacuum cleaners in Thomas’ mind. That’s when you, Thomas, start having weird illogical dreams that don’t make any sense. As all of this happens while you’re asleep, there’s no possible damage for you or us. If they got away when you’re awake… who knows? You could go from having the most unexpected nonsensical random ideas to full fledged, sometimes horrifying, hallucinations.
VIRGIL: [concerned] What?
ROMAN: Like I said, that has never happened, Texas Chain-Fear Massacre. The ashlars on the walls are not ordinary stones. They’re made of the material that separates Thomas’ notion of reality from Thomas’ notion of fantasy. Thomas is a grounded, healthy person, so the walls are extra strong on him.
VIRGIL: What isn’t extra in your department?
ROMAN: It would take some sort of… issues to make these walls weak and breakable, which is not the case with Thomas, so don’t worry, anyone. I mean, my factory has existed for 30 years now, and I don’t think you have ever had any problem, did you?
THOMAS: Okay, so we’re here. What are we supposed to do here?
ROMAN: Just what Wrath suggested. I’m going to create pocket dream scenarios from scratch based on Patton’s happy thoughts so that we can cheer you up.
THOMAS: Why here? Why not in any other ordinary room in the Mind Palace?
ROMAN: Because here dream scenarios look and feel more realistic than on the rest of the Mind Palace, Thomas. It will feel as if you were living them in real life.
THOMAS: Is it safe? I mean, they’re untested if they’re here, so what could they do to us?
ROMAN: Oh, Thomas, you should have more faith in me. I’m gonna make sure that nothing weird comes out of me that could hurt you in any way.
VIRGIL: Well, if you could always have full control of what you create from scratch, you wouldn’t need this isolated Dream Factory in the first place, so it’s natural that Thomas is feeling me right now.
ROMAN: I’ll say it again, don’t worry. If anything goes wrong, we could always go back to the living room.
[A pedestal with a red button on top appears next to Thomas]
ROMAN: If you ever feel threatened or endangered for the tiniest reason, Thomas, just push the red button and… boop! We’ll be back. No questions and no reproaches, I give you my royal word.
THOMAS: Why is there a turtle drawn on the pedestal and on the button?
ROMAN: I don’t know, I just liked it.
PATTON: [squealing] That’s cute!
HONESTY: I don’t like this for some reason…
ROMAN: [ignoring him] Okay, Patton. Things that are heartwarming for Thomas.
PATTON: [happy voice] Puppies!
ROMAN: Okay. That one’s easy.
[Roman rises his arms. The room around them changes. Walls emerge from the ground and cover the ashlars. Doors and windows appear and a couch next to Thomas and the button, to conform an office around Thomas, who sits down on the couch]
THOMAS: Okay…
ROMAN: [smiling] Three… two… one… go!
[tiny little barks are heard from the door and a huge stream of puppies of all races emerges from it and goes straight to Thomas]
THOMAS: [happy voice] Oh, my gosh! So many puppies!
LOGAN: [in shock] This cuteness is hard to process…
VIRGIL: [grabs one of the puppies next to his cheek and it starts licking his eye-shadow] This is better than Halloween…
THOMAS: I’m so happy… but…
ROMAN: But?
[The room suddenly goes a little dark and the puppies disappear]
VIRGIL: Hey! Where did my tiny makeup eater go!?
[Suddenly from the door a huge wolf appears. It threateningly growls at Thomas]
THOMAS: [scared] What is going on?
WRATH: You’re not letting go of your anger Thomas! It has corrupted the dream scenario and concentrated to turn the puppies into that wolf!
[The wolf gets ready to jump onto Thomas]
THOMAS: [whining] Roman? Do something!
ROMAN: I’m trying, but I can’t unsummon it! It’s too full of Wrath’s energy, I have no control over it!
THOMAS: Wrath!
WRATH: I can’t Thomas! I can’t help it!
[before the wolf jumps, Virgil transforms into his panther form and lets go a loud growl. The wolf then gets scared and fades away]
THOMAS: Thank you, Virgil, you saved me!
VIRGIL: [transforming back to his emo form] You’re welcome. My mission is to protect you and I’m not going to back up on the only thing I can do good.
PATTON: Virgil, you do a lot of things good, don’t make me…
VIRGIL: …physically fight you, I know. Sorry, Dad.
THOMAS: Okay, this didn’t come out right.
ROMAN: It would have if you tried to concentrate to fix it, Thomas.
THOMAS: I’m sorry. That feeling’s overwhelmingly strong.
HONESTY: May I…
ROMAN: [interrupting and ignoring him] Okay, let’s try something different. Patton, give me another heartwarming thing for Thomas.
PATTON: Let’s see…
ROMAN: And no cats, Patton, Thomas is allergic.
PATTON: [disappointed] Awww! Okay, then… Something that makes Thomas happy… Broadway!
ROMAN: Of course! And that’s my department too! [rises his arms] Okay, changing scenario to a proper scenario…
[The office scenario disappears and is replaced by a stage scenario. There’s a huge crowd in the audience, and Thomas is suddenly dressed as Sweeney Todd, in the middle of the scenery, next to the red button. Roman is backstage on the left wing, with Wrath, Patton and Virgil, while the rest of the Sides are on the right wing watching in silence]
THOMAS: [whispering to Roman] What is happening?
ROMAN: [loud whispering] Thomas! You know this show by heart! Sing!
THOMAS: I didn’t rehearse anything!
ROMAN: [frustrated] For Patti Lupone and Ethel Merman’s sake, just sing!
THOMAS: [music starts and he starts singing] These are my friends… See how they glisten… See this one shine…
ROMAN: [to Wrath] Great, I’m sure he’s feeling happy now. There’s nothing that makes Thomas feel more alive than stage performance, right?
WRATH: However, I’m not sure if you have chosen the right musical for him to perform right now.
ROMAN: Why? It’s Sweeney Todd, one of Thomas’ dream roles.
WRATH: Yes, but have you forgotten what kind of character Sweeney Todd is? I can already feel myself heightening to help him to perform!
THOMAS: [singing with a face of anger] …My frieeend! My faithful frieeend!
ROMAN: Uh-oh… Didn’t think about that…
WRATH: It’s like that other character from that Shakespearean play, that Scottish king that also wanted to kill his enemies, what was his name? Oh, yes…
ROMAN: [in panic] Don’t say…!
WRATH: …Macbeth.
ROMAN: [horrified] Oh, no!
[the audience starts booing at Thomas and throwing tomatoes at him]
WRATH: Oh, no! The anger has corrupted the dream scenario again! It is pouring into the audience and they’re turning against Thomas!
ROMAN: [desperate] The show is cursed, he mentioned the Scottish Play inside the theater! Curtains! Curtains!
VIRGIL: Okay, time for Virgil to save the show again… Lucky that I’m an expert techie now…
[Virgil runs to the ropes and lowers the curtains down. When he does, the audience noises disappear]
THOMAS: Is this a dream tester or a nightmare tester, Roman?
ROMAN: I’m sorry, Thomas. Wrath gave it the coup de grace with the Scottish Play, but I guess I should have chosen something more relaxing instead, like… “The Sound of Music.”
WRATH: Don’t you dare! Anything but that!
ROMAN: You don’t like “The Sound of Music”?
WRATH: I just don’t want the cute Von Trapp kids to be turned by accident into the children of the corn, that’s all!
THOMAS: I’m starting to be tempted into pushing that button…
ROMAN: Let’s not give up yet, Thomas. There has to be some way to defeat your anger and make you feel better!
HONESTY: Well if I…
ROMAN: [ignoring him] Patton, please, think of something good! Something that couldn’t possibly fail!
PATTON: Let’s see… This is getting difficult… Um… I think I know. What has always been Thomas’ source of constancy and tranquility? [looking at Virgil with a sweet loving voice] I’m sure my Emo Sweet Dream knows the answer to this one.
VIRGIL: You mean…?
PATTON: Yes, I mean his friends! They’re probably his biggest source of happiness in his life.
ROMAN: You’re a genius, Patton! Of course! If that fails too, I don’t know what else could work! Okay. Moving to a friendly scenario… [rises his arms] Please, Bob Ross who art in heaven… lend me a hand on this one…
[The theater disappears and is replaced by an exterior setting in a park. There is a picnic. There are Joan, Talyn, Adri, Camden, Foti, Jamahl and Derionna, all sat down in the grass around a tablecloth with food on it. Thomas is again dressed as himself]
JOAN: Come on, buddy, sit down with us!
CAMDEN: Yeah, what took you so long? Join us, the food is delicious!
THOMAS: I’m glad to hear it, guys.
ROMAN: [watching from a distance] This cannot fail. There’s nothing stronger than Thomas’ love for his friends, it could overcome anything!
WRATH: I don’t know… Friendship is strong, but unfortunately hatred can be strong too, and Thomas’ hatred against himself is the cause of all of this…
ROMAN: [annoyed] Don’t jinx it again!
[Suddenly the sky gets cloudy and a storm is heard]
THOMAS: Oh, what a shame… It looks it’s gonna rain…
JOAN: [frowning] Well, I don’t care at all. This was being boring anyway.
THOMAS: …what?
TALYN: Yeah, it got boring when you came in. You spoiled everything!
JAMAHL: Yeah, as usual!
ROMAN: Not again… not again… not again…
THOMAS: Guys, what are you saying?
CAMDEN: We’re saying that we’re tired of you using us to rise up to fame, that’s what we’re saying! We’re talented enough to be successful in art without your constant direction!
THOMAS: I never meant…
JAMAHL: I’m getting out of here. And don’t bother calling us again, Thomas! From now on we’re going solo, and you’re not welcome in our path to glory!
[They all get up and leave Thomas where he is, with the most broken face he has ever shown in his life]
THOMAS: Guys… please… don’t leave me… I love you… I’m helpless without you, please…
[his friends ignore them. After they get away from the picnic, they disappear. The Sides gather around Thomas, all with sad faces]
ROMAN: [defeated voice] I’m sorry, Thomas. I’m so, so, sorry… This has been a huge fiasco…
THOMAS: [hurt voice] It has. Not only this dang room hasn’t helped me feel better. It has made me feel even worse than before, and I didn’t think it was possible.
WRATH: If it serves as a consolation, the things your friends said, they would never feel or say them like that. They’re all fruit of your anger corrupting the dream scenario and they’re rather things that once or twice you have thought about yourself, even unconsciously, which have been expressed through them.
THOMAS: Yes, but hearing it all through them… It has been hurtful. And this cursed place made them feel so real it only worsened the pain.
ROMAN: As I said, I won’t question you if you press the red button now, Thomas.
THOMAS: [reaching out his hand to the red button] Of course I will, I’m not staying in this place any longer…
HONESTY: [yelling, before Thomas can press the button] Wait!
THOMAS: What, Honesty?
HONESTY: Can I speak now, Thomas? Or is Roman going to interrupt me again like before?
ROMAN: I did? Sorry, I didn’t notice…
THOMAS: Go ahead, Honesty, say what you need to say.
HONESTY: Okay. You all have been making a huge mistake while handling the situation.
ROMAN: Mistake?
HONESTY: You’re all looking for ways to make Thomas evade from the problem. But that won’t make the problem disappear. It will remain there, haunting Thomas, wherever he goes and whatever he does. It’s useless.
LOGAN: I think we had already agreed on that point, Hon.
HONESTY: However, there is a way to start fixing the situation.
VIRGIL: What is it?
HONESTY: If evading the problem is not working, Thomas, confront the problem, face to face. Be honest with yourself and attack the root of the issue. It’s the only way to start healing your soul.
ROMAN: So what do you propose?
HONESTY: I propose that instead of creating imaginary scenarios in your Factory, Roman, we create a replica of the scene that Thomas has just lived in the store, but instead of Thomas holding his anger and running away, he must speak to him, tell him what he feels and let go of everything he’s been holding back. It’s the only thing that will make him feel better for real.
THOMAS: I think… it might work… but it’s not gonna be pleasant.
HONESTY: You have the advantage that this is not reality, but looks so much like reality you won’t tell the difference in terms of venting, all without making any difference in your real life. So you can keep acting in front of him as if this would have never happened, cause for him it won’t have ever happened.
ROMAN: It’s worth a try. Are you ready, Thomas?
THOMAS: As ready as I’ll ever be, Roman.
ROMAN: Okay. [rises his arms] Dream Factory, one last struggle, don’t fail me this time.
[the park scenario disappears and is replaced by a store. Thomas’ ex is there, his new mate is far away from them looking for something on some shelves. Thomas sighs and approaches his ex, who looks at him surprised]
THOMAS’ EX: Oh, Thomas. How are you doing? It’s been ages.
THOMAS: Yeah, it’s been. [looking at his ex’s mate] Looks you’re doing okay.
THOMAS’ EX: Oh, yes. His name is Steve. We’ve been dating for half a year or so.
THOMAS: I’m glad for you.
THOMAS’ EX: Thank you. What about you?
THOMAS: Oh… well… I haven’t been so lucky, unfortunately. Took me a while to… get over you.
THOMAS’ EX: I’m sorry to hear that.
THOMAS’: But I’m not giving up. Even though it hurts to be alone. Even though the thought that maybe…
ROMAN: [from the door] Keep going!
THOMAS: …that maybe I will never find someone like you again, it hurts.
THOMAS’ EX: Thomas…
THOMAS: No, please, let me speak, because this has been killing me for the past two years. I have cried a lot over you. I know it’s not your fault, and I’m not blaming you for anything. If anything, we both would be guilty that our relationship didn’t work, but still, the aftermath was torturing. You were my first love and losing your first love hurts more than losing any other subsequent loves, or so I heard, as I’m yet to experiment another love as strong as the one we had. I haven’t been wasting time, I’ve met a couple of people that made my stomach feel full of butterflies again… at least for some time, but it never went any further. I just wanted to tell you that I finally went over you and that I’m still struggling to find someone like you, but that I will not stop, and I will never give up till I can say that I’m sharing my life with someone I love and who loves me, just like you did.
THOMAS’ EX: That would make me happy, Thomas. I couldn’t love you the way that I loved you on the first years of our relationship, but that doesn’t mean I stopped loving you as a friend. It would make me happy that you could have love in your life, you deserve it. But you’re making a mistake. You mustn’t try to find someone like me. I’m just an ordinary man and each man you find will be his own man. No one will ever be like me. Some may be similar, some may be worse, and certainly some will be better. Just look for somebody to love and don’t make any comparisons, because each love experience will be totally different from the previous one, and each will be unique in its own way. You’ll find the love you want someday, and in the mean time, don’t get too stressed over it. It will come when you least expect it. You’ll see.
THOMAS: I hope so. And I also wish you the best in your new relationship. It would make me happy too to know that you’re happy.
THOMAS’ EX: Thank you, Thomas. Now, I gotta go. We’ve got a lot to buy yet. Good bye.
THOMAS: Good bye.
[Thomas’ ex reunites with his mate and disappear behind an aisle of the store. Then the store disappears and they’re back to the ashlars room. The Sides gather around Thomas in their positions]
PATTON: Thomas, I’m so proud of you right now, you wouldn’t get an idea.
THOMAS: Thank you Patton. And I’m feeling so relieved. Venting all that I had inside has made all my bad feelings fade away completely. I feel so great right now. Thank you, Honesty. You were right all the time.
HONESTY: I’m glad I could be of help, gentleman.
THOMAS: And I also want thank you two, Roman and Patton. You gave your best and if it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t have found the solution in the first place.
ROMAN: I’m glad that my room could be useful in the end, even after all the struggling.
THOMAS: Well, now it’s the time to push the button, don’t you think?
ROMAN: Yes, I agree. Let’s get out of here.
[Thomas pushes the button. There’s a red flash and Thomas and the Sides appear in the living room]
LOGAN: Well, that was a swift trip.
WRATH: Yes, it was. Roman?
ROMAN: Yes?
WRATH: I don’t want to go without apologizing to you.
ROMAN: About what?
WRATH: I was harsh with all of you, but especially with you, Roman. I shouldn’t have called you “shoddy pompous prince”. That was rude and mean, and I’m really sorry.
ROMAN: It’s okay, Wrath. It’s… [looking at Logan] water under the bridge.
LOGAN: Correct.
PATTON: And I’m sorry I slapped you, kiddo. Violence should never be the answer.
WRATH: Don’t worry about it, Patton. I really deserved it at the time. I truly regret everything about the way I entered here the first time… It’s been torturing me all these weeks. I was so afraid of how you would react about me.
THOMAS: Well, now you’ve seen it yourself, Wrath. This is a welcoming environment and you’ll never have to endure the pain and suffering you experimented in the Dark Realm again. Please don’t isolate yourself again. We would like to spend time getting to know you, getting to know all about you.
ROMAN: [singing] Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me… “The King and I”, I love that musical.
WRATH: I love it too, Roman. I love musical movies in general.
ROMAN: Oh, would you like to come to my room, then? We could binge watch a few of them. I’ve got “Oliver!”, “Singin in the Rain”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Sound of Music”…
WRATH: “The Sound of Music”!? Oh, I would love to! I love Julie Andrews! She’s a beautiful goddess!
ROMAN: [happy] Right!? Wrath, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship…
DECEIT: May I join in?
PATTON: Me too!
ROMAN: [sinking down] Of course! You’re all welcome! I’ll go make popcorn for everybody.
WRATH: [sinking down] Great! I have frozen soda in my room, I’ll go fetch it.
PATTON: [sinking down] Yaaay! Musicals, popcorn, soda and beloved friends! I love it!
DECEIT: [sinking down] But don’t get overexcited again, Patton. The last time you choked on your popcorn and you spent the whole movie loudly coughing.
LOGAN: Do you know what I like most about all of today’s conversation?
THOMAS: What?
LOGAN: That the power of reality and honesty has been proven and has finally taken its place at the table.
THOMAS: Well, I don’t think anyone dismissed reality as bad. Other than Roman, that is, but you know Princey.
LOGAN: [sinking down] Yes, he could trip on a stone and say that gravity put a spell on him instead of recognizing his clumsiness.
VIRGIL: Well, Thomas. I hope that, now that your anger is gone, you can keep calm for the rest of the day.
THOMAS: I’ll try, Virgil.
VIRGIL: Don’t try, do it. I’m sneaking into Roman’s room to watch the movies and I don’t want you to uncover me.
THOMAS: Why do you have to go incognito?
VIRGIL: I have a reputation to keep, Thomas, I don’t want them to know I love glowing Technicolor musicals. [sinking down, demonic voice] And if you tell them, I’ll haunt you in your sleep, Thomas.
THOMAS: But they already know you love Disney… Okay…
HONESTY: Thomas, thank you for listening to me.
THOMAS: No, Honesty, thank you for your help. And I’m sorry we didn’t let you speak earlier, it would have saved us so many struggles today.
HONESTY: Glad to help, Thomas. [sinking down] I hope that you get better soon.
THOMAS: Thank you, Honesty, I think I’ve already started. [to the camera] There are times were we get into some sort of sneaky situation, or a problem shows before us, or something makes us feel bad for any reason. In moments like those, the first choice should always be confronting that problem and trying to fix it. Evading from it can be tempting, because it may make us feel comforted in the short term. But if we want a long term solution, we must face our demons face to face and try to defeat them. I know it’s difficult sometimes, but it’s the best way to start our way to full recuperation without having to carry that weight on our shoulders or on our souls. Until next time, take it easy, guys, gals, and non binary pals. Peace out!
[ending card]
[it’s late night. Thomas is sleeping in his bed. And it seems he’s having a bad dream. Then we see what he’s dreaming. He’s in the Dark Realm, and he sees the Dark Master. Wrath is off-screen but the Dark Master’s using his whip on him. Lashes are heard and Wrath cries in pain]
THOMAS: [horrified] Stop it! I say stop it!
DARK MASTER: [evil laugh] Stop it? But why? I thought you loved this, Thomas.
THOMAS: How can you be so nasty? I would never enjoy this kind of twisted behavior of yours, Dark Master! Leave Wrath alone!
DARK MASTER: Don’t be so hypocrite, Thomas. All the power I had here, it all came from you.
THOMAS: What?
DARK MASTER: Yes! Because you’re weak, Thomas. You were unable to gather strength enough to stop me. You had to rely on your friends to do your dirty work! As usual, by the way!
THOMAS: Stop it!
DARK MASTER: All the pain Virgil, Deceit and Wrath had to endure were all your fault, Thomas! And you’ll have to live with that guilt for the rest of your life!
[Virgil, Deceit and Wrath appear before Thomas. They’re totally bruised and with faces of pain]
DARK MASTER: Look what you’ve done, Light Master! Look what you’ve done with your own hands!
[Thomas looks at his hand. He’s holding the whip the Dark Master was using. Virgil, Deceit and Wrath look at him with a face of horror. The Dark Master laughs evilly]
THOMAS: [progressively more and more anxious] No… It wasn’t me! I would never do that! I would never do that! Noooooo!
[back to Thomas’ bedroom. Thomas wakes up abruptly]
THOMAS: No!
[Thomas struggles to breath. He’s covered in sweat. He looks around him and realizes it was a dream]
THOMAS: Oh, my goodness gracious… What a horrible nightmare…
[Virgil appears next to him]
VIRGIL: Are you okay?
THOMAS: [startled] AH! Oh… it’s you… You scared me, Virgil… It’s okay, it was only a nightmare, that’s all…
VIRGIL: I know, I heard you speaking in your dreams, Thomas.
THOMAS: Oh, you did? I thought you all fell asleep when I fell asleep.
VIRGIL: We do, but when you have nightmares, especially if they’re as strong as this one, they wake me up, and I go check if you’re okay.
THOMAS: I see…
VIRGIL: Thomas, you must know that we don’t blame you for anything we had to go through in the Dark Realm. It wasn’t your fault. Heck, you didn’t even know of the existence of the Dark Realm and the Dark Master in the first place. There’s absolutely nothing you could have done.
THOMAS: If I had known what you were going through, Virgil, I would have moved heaven and earth to help you.
VIRGIL: [loving smile] I know, Thomas. And we love you for that. All of us… [sad face] If anyone, the blame would have to be put on me.
THOMAS: Why are you saying that?
VIRGIL: I’ve been out of the Dark Realm for years. I should have done something to help Deceit and Wrath. I should have done something, and the only thing I did was running away like the evasive coward that I am.
THOMAS: Virgil, there’s nothing you could have done either. Deceit and Wrath couldn’t get out of the Dark Realm. Besides, what do you think it would have happened if you had returned? The Dark Master would have caught you.
VIRGIL: I know, but still…
THOMAS: I’m sure they don’t hold any grudges against you, Virgil. You shouldn’t hold them on yourself either.
VIRGIL: Thank you… Thomas?
THOMAS: Yes?
VIRGIL: I don’t feel strong enough to return to my room right now… Would you mind if I slept here tonight?
THOMAS: I would love it Virgil. I’m still scared of the nightmare, and your presence would comfort me… Isn’t it ironic, bearing in mind you’re my anxiety?
[Virgil smiles. Thomas makes some room for Virgil, who changes to his purple pajama and lies down]
VIRGIL: Good night, Thomas.
THOMAS: Good night, Virgil. Have sweet emo-kitten dreams.
[They both close their eyes to sleep, showing a little smile on their faces, and Virgil starts softly purring till they both fall asleep]

Ssh File Transfer Mac To Linux
Secure Shell (SSH) is a cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network. Typical applications include remote command-line, login, and remote command execution, but any network service can be secured with SSH. SSH provides a secure channel over an unsecured network by using a client–server architecture, connecting an SSH client application. Mac Terminal SSH file transfer? Ask Question Asked 9 years, 1 month ago. Active 2 years, 8 months ago. Viewed 93k times 12. Is there a way to transfer files directly from a Mac to another using only Terminal? Perhaps using SSH? In the previous posts we looked how to connect with ssh to a remote computer (host) and how to. WinSCP is a popular free SFTP and FTP client for Windows, a powerful file manager that will improve your productivity. It supports also Amazon S3, FTPS, SCP and WebDAV protocols. Power users can automate WinSCP using.NET assembly. It can act as a client for the SSH, Telnet, rlogin, and raw TCP computing protocols and as a serial console client. Version 0.63; WinSCP is a free open-source SFTP and FTP client for Windows. Its main function is to secure file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers scripting and basic file manager functionality.
Do you have a file on your Linux PC that needs to be transferred to your Linux server and you are not sure how to do this? This article teaches you how to copy files via SSH to your remote Linux server. It presents two methods for achieving this file transfer in a secure way. One based on the scp program and one based on the rsync program.
Background
Once you have your own Linux server up and running, you typically access it through SSH. SSH stands for Secure Socket Shell. SSH enables you to securely log in and access your Linux server over an unsecured network. Through SSH you can install, configure and update software on your Linux server, to name just a few common Linux server administration tasks.
While administering you Linux server, sooner or later you run into a situation where you have a file on your own Linux PC and you need to transfer this file to your Linux server. So you SSH-ed into your server and you are staring at your terminal screen, wondering how to go about this task. Unfortunately, you cannot directly transfer a file from your own PC to your remote Linux server through this active SSH terminal session. Luckily though, several methods exist that enable you to copy files via SSH. This article presents you with two of these methods. Namely, by using the scp and rsync programs.
System setup
A typical system setup consists of your Linux desktop PC, connected to your local network router, and a remote Linux server somewhere in the cloud. Instead of setting up a cloud server somewhere for this article (think Digital Ocean or Linode for example) , I decided on running a Linux server as a virtual machine (VM) on my laptop. Pes 2010 for mac os. Below you can find an illustration of the system setup:
My trusty Lenovo Thinkpad T450s serves as the Desktop PC. I run Debian 10 on this PC and its hostname is set to tinka. The Linux server VM also runs Debian 10 and its hostname is set to debianvm. I configured the same username on both the PC and the server. It is set to pragmalin. Refer to this article in case you would like to setup a similar Debian server as a virtual machine with VirtualBox.
Connecting to your server via SSH
While explaining the steps for copying files to the Debian server via SSH, I’ll occasionally SSH into the Debian server to verify that the files actually got transferred. Here follows a quick refresher that explains how you can log into your server via SSH.
The command from a Linux terminal on your PC to connect to your server is: ssh <username>@ip-address or ssh <username>@hostname. In my case the hostname of the Debian server VM is debianvm . My username on this server is set to pragmalin. This means that I can log into this server via SSH with the command:
ssh pragmalin@debianvm
To close the SSH connection, simply type the exit command:
SCP versus RSYNC
Before diving into the actual file copying via SSH, we should discuss the two commonly used programs for this, namely scp and rsync.
The SCP program
The scp program is a secure copy program. So basically a secure and remote version of the cp program that you locally use for copying files. Pretty much all Linux server distributions install the scp program by default, including Debian. Now, if the already installed scp program does all we need then why would we ever need another program for the same task? Read on and you’ll see that rsync does offer some benefits.
The RSYNC program
The rsync program is labeled as a fast, versatile and remote file-copying tool. But it is not just a plain file-copying tool. The rsync program features build-in synchronization functionality. This means that it only copies a file to the remote server if it is not already present. In contrast, the scp program blatantly overwrites the file. Furthermore, rsync can compress the files during the transfer. In other words, rsync is faster and uses less network bandwidth.
By default rsync does not communicate in a secure way. Luckily an easy fix exists for this. You can force rsync to use the SSH protocol by specifying the -e 'ssh' option when calling the program. Another minor disadvantage is that rsync is not installed by default on all Linux server distributions. Of course this is merely a one time inconvenience. You can simply install it with sudo apt install rsync. Just keep in mind that the rsync program needs to be installed on both sides. So both on your PC and your server.
When should you use scp and when rsync? They both work, so it partially comes down to personal preference. Personally, I use scp for small quick file transfers as its syntax strikes me as more intuitive. For large file transfers, I opt for rsync, because it is faster and uses less network bandwidth. For example when I need to restore a complete backup to one of my servers.
Tumblr media
WordPress archive
For file copy via SSH testing purposes, this article uses the latest WordPress archive. WordPress is a hugely popular website content management system and runs on millions of websites, including the PragmaticLinux blog. We are not actually going to install WordPress, but just use the WordPress files for file copy example purposes.
Go ahead and download the latest WordPress archive from https://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz. On my PC the file wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz is now present in directory /home/pragmalin/Downloads/ Free mp3 to m4a converter for mac.
Copy a single file
Let’s start out with copying just a single file to the server via SSH. Open your terminal and go to the directory that holds to previously downloaded WordPress archive. Next, run either one of the following commands to copy the file to your remote server. Just replace the /home/pragmalin directory name with the name of your home directory on the server and replace the pragmalin@debianvm part with your username on the server and the hostname of the server, respectively:
scp wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin
rsync -e 'ssh' -avz wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin
If you now SSH into your server, you can verify the presence of the wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz file in your user’s home directory. Both the scp and rsync commands have a similar structure. It is:
(COMMAND) (OPTIONAL ARGUMENTS) (SOURCE) (DESTINATION)
As you can see in this example, the scp program does not require any arguments. However, the rsync program does: -e 'ssh' -avz. For detailed information on the command options, you can refer to the program’s man-page. Alternatively, you can make use of the excellent explainshell.com website. Here are the links for an explanation of the previous two commands: scp and rsync.
Permissions
Note that you can only copy files to a directory where the username you specified has write permissions. That is the reason why I specified the home directory in this example. If you need to store the file in a directory where your user does not have write permissions, then you would have to connect to the server via SSH afterwards and move the file with the help of sudo mv.
Reverse transfer direction
You can copy the files via SSH in the other direction too. So from the server to your PC. You just need to swap the (SOURCE) and (DESTINATION) in the command. For example:
scp pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin/wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz /home/pragmalin/Downloads
rsync -e 'ssh' -avz pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin/wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz /home/pragmalin/Downloads
Copy all files in a directory
Another common operation is to copy all the files in a specific directory via SSH. We need a few files to try this out. Since we already downloaded the WordPress archive, we might all well extract its contents to get a bunch of files for testing purposes:
tar -xvf wordpress-5.4.2.tar.gz
The newly created wordpress subdirectory now holds the archive contents. To copy all the files in this directory to your remote server, run either one of the following commands. Just replace the /home/pragmalin directory name with the name of your home directory on the server and replace the pragmalin@debianvm part with your username on the server and the hostname of the server, respectively:
scp * pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin
rsync -e 'ssh' -avz --no-recursive * pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin
If you now SSH into your server, you can verify the presence of the files such as index.php, wp-config-sample.php, etc. in your user’s home directory.
Copy all files in a directory recursively
In the previous section just the files in a specific directory were copied. This did not include subdirectories. If you want to copy everything, so files and subdirectories, run either one of the following commands. Just replace the /home/pragmalin directory name with the name of your home directory on the server and replace the pragmalin@debianvm part with your username on the server and the hostname of the server, respectively:
scp -r * pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin
rsync -e 'ssh' -avz * pragmalin@debianvm:/home/pragmalin
The output of the command is a bit too long for a screenshot. However the following screenshot from the directory contents listing on the server show proof that the copy operation worked. You can verify the presence of the files such as index.php and wp-config-sample.php, but also all the directories such as wp-admin, wp-contents, etc. in your user’s home directory:
Wrap up
After working through this article, you now know about two programs (scp and rsync) that enable you to copy files via SSH. Both commands get the job done. The syntax of the rsync command is a bit more complicated so you might prefer scp. Keep in mind though that rsync uses less network bandwidth. As a result rsync is faster especially when transferring a large amount of data.
The syntax for both commands is not hard to understand. Nevertheless, it is complex enough that you probably won’t memorize them, unless used frequently. For this reason I recommend bookmarking this article. That way you can quickly reference this information when needed.
