Talking to the Dead
Imagine your sister calling in a favor, only to find out said favor is for the vampire sheriff of Louisiana.
Tumblr media
Words: 6.3K Author's Note: I am not Bill's biggest fan, nor am I Eric/Sookie's biggest fan either. That said, this takes place AFTER all damn drama with King Bill. Eric still runs Fangtasia alongside Pam and Sookie still works under Sam at Merlotte's. They're friends. That's it.
Eric sits behind his desk, the bottom half of his face covered in blood as Pam files her nails. She had been going through Fangtasia's books when she realized the money wasn't adding up and that some of their product was missing. So when Tara brought forward those responsible in making sure Fangtasia was up to date with their taxes and everything, Eric called in a favor from Sookie to get a read on them. Only Eric lost his temper and killed the two men, leaving thousands of his money stashed somewhere only the dead knew of now.
The office door opens and Sookie stumbles inside, still in her Merlotte's uniform. She takes one look at Eric and sighs. "Did you have to kill them? I just wasted a trip out here, Eric Northman."
"How tragic," he deadpans. "You wasted about five dollars in gas, meanwhile I'm still out of thousands, Miss Stackhouse."
"Don't you take that tone with me, Mister!"
Pam snorts. "Shame your little fae powers don't allow you to speak to the dead," she drawls. "That would really come in handy right about now." Sookie opens her mouth to defend her still untrained powers, only to pause and snap her mouth shut. Immediately that catches both vampires' attention and Pam leans forward, interest piqued. "Have you been holding out on us, Tinkerbell?"
"No." Sookie scoffs, suddenly overcome with wariness. "But I, uh, I might know someone who-"
"No." Eric cuts her off. "No witches."
"She's not a witch," Sookie says. "Y/N is, um, she's my sister."
Eric freezes before he leans forward in his chair. "There's a third Stackhouse? How come we never learned of this?"
Sookie sighs and drops onto the couch. She shrugs. "Y/N's powers manifested a lot earlier than mine did and they.. well it drove her crazy. She was in and out of the hospital, and the death of our parents didn't do her any favors. She started rebelling at seventeen and drank herself into oblivion. Constantly."
Pam hums. "Sounds like my kind of girl."
Sookie frowns at her before looking back at Eric. "She's actually due for a visit tomorrow. I'll bring her by."
"How are you so sure she'll do this for us? If I recall correctly, you did not come peacefully," Eric muses.
Sookie rolls her eyes. "Y/N is a free spirit. If I hadn't told you she was my sister, you wouldn't have known we were twins."
"Twins?" Eric seems to perk up, eyes lighting up, and this time it's Pam's turn to roll her eyes.
Sookie scoffs. "Don't be gross. We'll be by after my shift tomorrow."

Finding an Uber into Bon Temps after the sun had set was almost impossible, but fortunately you found someone who was willing to make the trip. You knew Louisiana had become a vampire hotspot, but you didn't know people had found traveling in the state quite so fearsome.
You don't have much on you, with the exception of a small suitcase holding a few change of clothes, so you opt to be dropped off at Merlotte's rather than your childhood home. And upon exiting the car after making sure your payment went through, you grab your suitcase by the handle and walk towards the entrance. A few whispers attempt to reach out to you, but you shake off the echoes of death and march on.
There's only a handful of locals inside Merlotte's, but the no-good nosy folk still all stop to see who's entering their local establishment. Inside, the whispers get louder, but you reign in your control and shake your head clear. What the hell happened here that there are so many echoes?
"Do my eyes deceive me or is that my favorite Stackhouse?"
You're already grinning as you find the source of the comment, grin widening as Sam's familiar handsome self makes his way towards you. "Come on, Sam. We all know who your favorite Stackhouse really is?"
He laughs as he opens his arms for a hug and you drop your suitcase to step into his embrace. "Jason's bragging again, isn't he?"
You huff a laugh and pinch his side, the two of you not speaking of all the years he spent pining after your sister. "So where is my twin?" You ask as you pull back and roll your eyes when Sam readily picks up your suitcase.
You follow him to the bar as he says, "She's taking a call in the back. Want me to let her know you're here?"
"Nah, but can you put in an order for me? I miss Lafayette's burgers."
"Sure thing, chère. What do you want?"
"Cheeseburger with everything, cut the onions. Extra ketchup. Fries. And whatever beer you have on tap."
Sam chuckles as he's already pouring your beer. "So the usual." You grin as he slides your glass across the bar. "I'll be back."
Taking a seat on the stool there at the bar, you grab your glass and sip at the ice cold beer. It feels so good sliding down your throat that the sip turns into a gulp, and before you know it half the glass is gone. Needing a breath, you set the glass down and inhale deeply. As you exhale, you burp, and then take a moment to stretch in your seat while glancing around. A few people are still staring and murmuring far too low to their companions for you to hear, so instead you raise an eyebrow at them- challenging them to say their opinion out loud. None of them do and you scoff an amused laugh before drinking the rest of your beer.
Sam reappears. "Long flight?" He takes your glass and refills it.
"Flight was fine. It's the people of Bon Temps who annoy the shit out of me." Sam frowns, but you shrug off his concern as he quickly glances around at those in his establishment. You're well aware of what everyone thinks of you and Sookie thanks to Sookie's abilities, and you're grateful you didn't quite get the same ability as her. If you had to hear every living being's thoughts on top of the dead's, you'd have permanently committed yourself long ago.
"Well I talked to your sister in the back. She said she'll be right out."
"That's fine." Accepting your second glass of beer, you smile gratefully at Sam before taking another drink.
"Girl, I knows you ain't tryin' to eat my food without saying hello."
You turn on your stool, one knee crossed over the other as you beam at the cook. "Lafayette!" He approaches with your plated cheeseburger and a basket of fries, setting them in front of you before pulling you into a hug. "I wouldn't have left without saying hello. I just wanted my food first."
"'Course you did," he muses. "How long you here for, little Stackhouse?"
"Um, I'm kind of between jobs at the moment," you sheepishly admit. You quickly grab a fry and pop it into your mouth. "I'll probably stick around until I can find something or Sookie kicks me out."
Lafayette swats you with his dish towel. "You know damn well Sook won't kick you out. That sister of yours misses you lots. She's been talkin' nonstop about your visit."
"If you need a job, chère, I'll be happy to give you one."
You pop another fry into your mouth, grinning over at Sam. "Lord knows you can barely handle one Stackhouse, Sam. No way in hell you can two- three if Jason is around as much as I'm assuming." Sam opens his mouth to retort, but a shriek cuts him off. It's Sookie and she barrels right into your side. "Jesus Sook," you laugh. "Warn a girl."
As you and Sookie quickly catch up (she's all for you staying as long as you need), more patrons enter Merlotte's and Lafayette's forced back into the kitchen. Jason and his best friend Hoyt walk in, so you walk over to join them as Sookie gets back to work also.
Jason is glad Sookie won't be in the house all on her own since he has his own place and Hoyt is just glad to see all the Stackhouses together once again. You finish your cheeseburger and fries there at the table with them, along with three glasses of beer and two shots courtesy of your brother who wanted to properly celebrate your homecoming.
Jason and Hoyt leave, you waving them off when they asked if you wanted a ride home. Sookie's shift is just about over and you remember her asking if you could wait for her because she wanted to take you someplace. So when Sookie comes out from the back to collect you from the bar, you're slightly swaying on your stool as you grin at her.
"Are you drunk?" She incredulously asks. "Y/N, I need you level headed."
"Ooohhh," you coo and reach out to bop her on the nose. "And just what do I need to be level headed for, sis?"
"Can you walk?" She asks instead. You laugh and nod, hopping off the stool and giving yourself a moment to make sure the room isn't tilting. She sighs. "That's good enough for me. Come on. A friend of mine needs a favor." She walks behind the bar to collect your suitcase and a bottle of water from the small refrigerator under the bar. "Bye, Sam! See you later!" She then calls out as she leads you down a hall. You hear Sam's muffled reply from one door in particular and then Sookie's leading you out the back exit and towards her car.
Outside she opens the passenger door to her small yellow Honda Civic that looks newer than the last time you saw it, and tosses your suitcase in the backseat. She pushes you down onto the passenger seat and holds the water bottle out to you. "Drink."
You take the bottle without a word, twist off the cap, and start to guzzle the water as she shuts the door and walks around the car to the driver's side door. You only get half of it down before needing to breathe. "What.. am I.. guzzling water for?" You ask in between breaths.
As Sookie starts up her car, she casts a wary glance your way before looking back to where she's driving. "Shreveport. We're going to Fangtasia. The owner of the bar needs you to listen to some echoes."
"Fangstasia?" Your brow furrows as you try to wrack your brain about why that sounds so familiar. A moment later, however, the answer comes to you and you groan. "First off, I can overlook the vampire bar. What I can't overlook is that of all people to tell our secret to, you chose vampires. Vampires! Do you know we're like crack to them?"
"I'm sorry, okay! I got involved with them a while back, which is a mistake that I can admit now, but Eric actually tried helping me in his own way. Somewhat. We've become friends."
"Sookie." You groan again. Your sister pouts and you decide to keep quiet, sipping on your water and wishing it were something stronger. "So what does this Eric know about me listening to echoes?"
"Nothing really," she says. "I know how you like your privacy, so last night was the first time I mentioned that I even had a sister." You grin, not hurt at all by her not mentioning you to others. "I just said that you could listen in on the dead. They don't know about anything else."
"Good. I like to keep 'em on their toes." Sookie snorts at your all too amused expression. "And besides, I learned a new trick! I can't wait to test it out."
Your sister glances between you and the road, her smile faltering. "Are you- are you sure you're okay to do this? I know how it can get when you're not truly focused."
"We're on the road." You giggle. "No turning around now."
This time it's Sookie's turn to groan. "I knew I should have asked beforehand. Now the night's gonna end with one of us pinned to a wall."
"Oooh. Kinky."
The rest of the drive is painfully quiet, with the exception of some gospel music station Sookie has playing on low. You're humming a completely different song under your breath, right arm hanging out the window and letting the humid air rush over the skin of your arm. Thankfully the drive isn't too long and Sookie is soon pulling into the parking lot with a building partially decorated with neon red lights. The outside of Fangtasia is not what you expected, but seeing the line of both human and vampires in their scantily clad outfits makes you excited to see what's going on inside.
You're practically bouncing in your seat as Sookie parks and she can't help but grin at your apparent excitement. "Get it all out now," she says. "You won't be smilin' the closer you get to the buildin'. Not while you're half drunk."
"Shut up and let's go!"
Sookie fondly rolls her eyes and the two of you simultaneously pull down the sun visors to check yourselves in the small mirrors provided. Happy with your reflections, the two of you climb out of the vehicle. As your sister comes around to your side, you hook your arm through hers and the two of you head for the building.
Instead of heading straight to the back of line, Sookie leads you directly to Fangtasia's bouncer and ignores the grumbled displeasures of those waiting in line to get in. It takes you a few seconds to recognize the dark skinned female checking ID's, but when she turns to greet Sookie and her eyes widen upon seeing you, you grin. "What's cookin', good lookin'?"
"Oh Lord," Tara muses. "Eric's gonna murder the both of y'all."
Sookie huffs and she holds you back as you attempt to poke at Tara's abdomen. "Who put him in a bad mood now?"
Tara shrugs as she swats your hand away. "It's Eric. He's always in a bad mood unless he's balls deep in some fang-banger."
Your sister ew's and you grin, clearly impressed, until Sookie elbows you. Tara just chuckles and gestures inside. "Go on in. You know where to find him. See you later, Y/N."
"Lookin' forward to it." Sookie drags you inside and the second you step foot in the darkened hallway, you sway on your feet as pressure builds up in your head. "Wait, wait, wait." You step aside to lean against the wall, shaking your head clear and trying to build up mental walls. When you catch a glimpse of your sister, you see her smiling sadly at you and are grateful she doesn't gloat about being right. "This is why I don't hang around vampires much," you murmur. "So much death."
"Sorry. I know I should have asked beforehand, but I didn't want to give you a chance to say no. Eric's annoying when he doesn't get what he wants."
"Yeah, yeah." You wave her off, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Once you feel a bite more settled, you push off the wall and meet your sister's gaze. "Okay. I'm ready."
Entering the main part of the club you can't help but look around in wide-eyed wonder. While most would think you were awe, you actually weren't and instead bit back the comment about how ridiculously cliché the establishment is. Everything is in blacks and reds, vampires in leather or electrical tape are dancing on poles, and the humans reek of desperation.
"Huh. No one's on the throne," Sookie muses.
You glance towards a raised platform, eyes lighting up at the sight of two actual thrones. Sookie's grip on your arm, however, stops you from attempting to go up there. "At least buy me a drink before we meet Mr. Scary Vampire." You pout.
"Nope." She starts marching away from the bar and towards a back hallway. "You're drunk enough already. You can have one at home when we're done here."
"Boo. You're no fun."
Sookie stops right outside a black door and impatiently knocks. You grin at her already huffy attitude and then walk in behind her as soon as someone permits entrance. The office is very plain, with the exception of a blood red couch off to the side and the two vampires behind the desk, and you frown as Sookie guides you towards a black leather chair and pushes you down into it.
"So this is the mysterious Stackhouse." The blonde male drawls.
You drag your gaze from your sister to the vampire in question and sit a little straighter in your seat as a lazy smile stretches across your lips. "And you're the mysterious vampire I've only heard about an hour ago." You then look at your sister. "Please tell me you banged this one."
There are simultaneous snorts from behind the desk and Sookie exhales roughly, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Eric. Pam, this is my sister Y/N. She might be a little drunk."
"Just a little," you muse, giggling.
"Well at least we know who the fun Stackhouse is."
You perk up again, putting one finger on the tip of your nose and pointing at Pam who's smirking at you with the other hand. "And don't you forget it."
"As amusing as this is," Eric drawls again, "I need a favor. Are you capable of doing what your sister claims you can do?"
"I wouldn't be here if I couldn't." You smirk. The smirk falters however as you feel a chill slide across the back of your neck. You still and slowly glance over your shoulder, whispers you hadn't been listening to earlier getting louder. You wince and turn back around, strengthening your shields. A moment passes before you clear your throat and say, "But I have two conditions before I start."
Eric and Pam had been watching you closely, intrigued the second Sookie held up her hand to stall their questions when they noticed you zone out and stare at the corner of the room. "Money is no issue," Eric then says.
"Pft. I don't want money."
"Y/N!" Sookie reprimands. "You're in between jobs. Take the money."
Without looking at your sister, you wave your hand at your sister to get her to shut up. You know you've done your job when she swats your hand so you continue speaking to Eric. "First condition, no biting! I don't care how delicious I smell. No gnawing on the tiny little gremlin."
Pam's lips stretch into a wide smile whereas Eric's lips faintly twitch. "And the second?"
"I get free drinks from the bar whenever I'm here."
"Deal."
"Yes!"
"You're such an idiot," Sookie mutters.
You look to your sister, bouncing in your seat in excitement. "Joke's on Dracula. I'm gonna be in Bon Temps for the foreseeable future. That's a lot of free drinks for me. Suck it, Pixie."
"Oohh. I like this mouth breather. Can we please keep her?"
You meet Pam's gaze and wink. "As beautiful as you are, sweet stuff, you are so not my type."
Her left eyebrow raises as she's still clearly amused. "Because I'm a vampire?"
"Nah. Because you're female," you say. "I can appreciate a hot as fuck lady when I see one, but I still prefer cock."
"Okay!" Sookie nearly shouts as she stands up. Eric beams at your drunken blunt attitude. "We're here so Y/N can find out where your money is and we're way off topic. Can we please get on with it so I can get her home?"
You snort. "Prude." Sookie slaps the back of your arm and you squeal, slapping her arm back. You glare at her until her lips twitch and then you're back to giggling, looking back toward the vampires. "So let's do it. Do you have anything of the dead guy I'm supposed to be listening for? It'll make it easier to listen in on him."
Pam shrugs. "His blood is still in the dungeon. Will that work?"
"Gross, but yeah. Lead the way."
As soon as you stand, the voices amp up and you sway at the sudden onslaught of voices. You grit your teeth and tune them out, nodding at Eric who had stilled to keep an eye on you. He gestures to follow after Pam and you do, Sookie and Eric following behind you. Pam makes a beeline for the stage of thrones, but before you can follow there's a hand gripping your wrist and leading you towards a door behind the bar.
You're led down into a dimly lit dungeon behind Eric and you can't help the next words that leave your mouth. "It's always such a let down when the dungeon is actually a dungeon and not a sex dungeon."
Eric turns around to stare at you with a leering gaze and Sookie groans. "Been in a lot of dungeons?"
"Not really." You shrug and walk towards the back of the room where there are metal poles sticking up from the concrete floor. Chains hang from each of them and you shiver as your fingers run over them, the metallic rattling immediately tuning you in to the whispers. Subtly shaking your head, you look towards Sookie. "You know the drill."
She nods, pulling small orange styrofoam plugs from her pocket. "If it looks like you're struggling, plug my ears. Or get out."
"Bingo." You grin at your sister before looking at Eric. "If it gets bad, I expect you to vamp speed her little butt outta here."
"And how would I know what bad looks like?"
"Oh you'll know," Sookie mutters.
Grinning one last time at Sookie and Eric, you turn back towards where Eric obviously chains up those who end up on his bad side. So touching the chains again, you let the rattling and whispers overcome your senses.
"..dangerous. Need to leave."
"..bad place. I just want to go home."
"Stupid fuckin' vampers."
The room turns hazy and silhouettes walk to and from around the basement. You stare at them, letting the voices come and go until you find the one you're looking for.
"..so screwed. Never should have done it." Your gaze zeroes in on the silhouette, watching it pace back and forth. "It was just a little money. Pocket change."
"Never gonna find it. Calm down. We're already dead."
You listen a bit more to their whining, hoping for anything useful when a loud dry sob pierces the air. You wince and whirl around to spot the source of noise.
"Did she- can she hear us?"
"If she can then she can tell that goddamn vamper where his stuff is." You whirl back around, gasping at the too close silhouette. "Hello." A chill rushes through you and your too tense muscles seem to relax as a haze takes over your mind.
"Y/N? You good?" Sookie asks. She warily glances around, she and Eric both noticing the atmosphere in the room thickening.
"Hm?" Your eyes blink rapidly as if clearing your vision. "Yeah. All good," you hear yourself saying.
"Well what did you find out?" Eric asks.
You feel your head turning left and right as if taking in your surroundings before you turn around and walk towards the wall where more chains are hanging. Eric growls at being ignored and Sookie quietly assures him that this is normal. Reaching for a chain, you feel your hand gliding along one chain and picking it up, caressing a metal stake at the end of it.
"Y/N," Sookie cautiously calls out. "What are you doing?"
Getting a good grasp on the stake in one hand, you turn around and smile at Eric- a chilling smile that immediately sets Sookie on edge and lets even Eric know that something is off. "Fuck your money. You're never gonna get it, you dead piece of shit."
"Y/N, don't!" Sookie screams as your arm suddenly thrusts the stake towards the side of your neck, only to stop mere centimeters from the intended target.
Sookie gasps and Eric raises an eyebrow in surprise. "Are her eyes supposed to completely white over?"
"Well she did mention learning a new trick." Sookie nervously shifts beside Eric and they watch you slowly come back to yourself, expression hardening.
Eyes completely white, you stare straight ahead as you lower your hand without any resistance from the spirits. "You dead fucks try that shit again and I will obliterate your fuckin' souls, and mark every soul in your goddamn family. Do I make myself clear?" You seethe. The dungeon gets chilly before the tension seems to suddenly dwindle. The whispers amp up before completely dying out and you stand a little taller. "Good. Now where is the money?"
Eric and Sookie patiently watch Y/N as she lazily glances back and forth before the white recedes from her eyes. Her shoulders sag and she meets Eric's gaze. "That Rafael guy had a building he was renovating over on.. over on.." she trails off, brow furrowing as she tries to collect her thoughts.
"I know of it," Eric says.
She sighs. "Well the money's in the wall on the second floor. Happy demolishing."
Then like a puppet with its strings cut, Y/N collapses right before their very eyes.
          - - - - - - - - - -
A pounding at your temples is what wakes you and you groan as your eyes flutter open. You're apparently still at Fangtasia, back in Eric's plain office and laying on the most uncomfortable couch you've ever laid on.
"You're awake. Good."
You begrudgingly sit up, wincing as the throbbing persists. Glancing around, you frown as you notice you and Eric are the only two in the room. "Where's my sister?"
"Miss Stackhouse couldn't bother a mere hour in my presence so she went out front to pester Tara."
"You two exes or something?"
Not even close. "No. I admit I pursued her once, but it was only to satiate my curiosity about why she smelled so divine." Bill fuckin' Compton was also a cock block of epic proportions.
You snort. "Cock block. Who is Bill and why did he cock block you from Sookie?" Eric stills and he goes quiet. You frown at him and then between one blink and the next, Eric is kneeling in front of you.
Can you hear me?
"Um, yes?" You say. A moment passes and then you realize your slip-up. You groan. "Okay, so yeah. I can't read the minds of humans, but apparently I can read the minds of vampires. It only happens when I'm at my most vulnerable and being slightly possessed makes me vulnerable."
Eric slowly smirks. "Well aren't you my new favorite Stackhouse."
You fall back against the back of the couch, groaning. "Whatever. I don't have the energy to argue with you. Just please don't tell Sookie. She gets all huffy when I can do something she can't."
Another blink and Eric is sitting beside you on the couch. "Is there a reason why you can read vampires and she can read everyone else but vampires?"
"Your guess is as good as mine." You shrug. "I eventually came to the conclusion that we're just a part of different courts. She's Light Fae and I'm Dark. She flourishes under the sun and I under the moon. I don't really know."
"Have you tried getting answers from other Fae?"
"Yeah, no. I met a member of the Fae court and that's a hard pass. Those fairy fucks can keep their imposter foods. I like this realm just fine, thank you very much."
Eric's lips twitch. "If the vampires find out about your powers, they're going to fight to put their claim on you."
"Is that your not so subtle way in trying to convince me that I should ask you for protection?"
"I'm the sheriff of this area, sweetheart. You won't be able to find anyone better suited for the job."
You huff a quiet laugh. "Keep your fangs to yourself, sweetheart. I can take care of myself."
We'll see about that.
Tumblr media
Settling in at what was always known as Gran's house, you almost take Sam up on his offer to become a waitress or bartender at Merlotte's. But then a day after doing Eric a favor, a check arrives for you- a check worth thousands of dollars- along with an offer from Eric to work every other day at Fangtasia to read the vampires coming and going from his area.
You didn't get back to him right away, instead choosing to just keep to yourself for a bit and re-familiarize yourself with the town. And then just when you think you have a lid on things, a constant buzzing makes a home just at the back of your skull.
For days Eric tries reaching you through texts and calls, but you just don't have the patience to deal with him. The buzzing is non-stop, the echoes of the dead sound as if they're underwater, and you can't hold a conversation longer than a minute. Sookie seems to understand that you can't be around people, so she leaves you be for the most part.
Your sister is currently at work so you have the house all to yourself. You haven't been able to clear your head and the buzzing is only getting louder and louder. You're nearing your breaking point, so when there's a knock at the front door you try to ignore it.
The knocking persists so you reluctantly roll out of bed, frowning as you march downstairs and towards the front door. Through the screen door you can see Eric standing there. You scowl at him, he grins, and when you push open the door he's immediately leaning against the door jamb. "You've been ignoring me."
You sigh and cross your arms over your chest. "I haven't been feeling well. Something's.. off."
That causes his faint grin to drop. "Is it something serious?"
"I'm not sure. I just- it feels like something bad is on the way."
"Well in that case.." Eric straightens up and stares down at you. "You're going to invite me in so I can protect you-" you scoff, "-or have primal passionate sex with you. You pick."
Though your mind is on overdrive, you can't help but faintly grin at the tall vampire. "I'll take a raincheck on the sex, but if you still want to come in, then come in."
Eric smirks as he crosses the threshold of the house and you shake your head at him before turning around and leading him to the living room. You take a seat in the corner of the couch, curling up with a pillow in your lap, and Eric sits on the middle seat to be as close to you as possible. "How long have you been feeling like this?"
"Few days now," you tell him. "There's this.. buzz. It's constant and it just keeps getting louder and louder."
"And the voices?"
"Muffled. No matter how much I concentrate, I can't hear them clearly. It's like they're trying to tell me something, but I can't tune in to the right station. It's annoying." Eric hums in thought and you attempt to change the subject. "So what brings you down here to Bon Temps? Surely my first impression wasn't that memorable."
He smirks as his arm rests along the top of the backrest of the couch, his fingers tugging on a few pieces of your hair. "It's rare for someone to amuse me these days. And you weren't what I was expecting Sookie's twin to be."
"Between the two of us, Sookie got all the perkiness. I, uh, I got stuck with all the doom and gloom." Eric quirks an eyebrow at you and you chuckle, wincing a moment later as an lingering echo screeches in your ear. Your attention is immediately drawn towards the kitchen where you see a silhouette walk by and the buzzing amps up.
Without uttering a word, you get up and follow it.
Eric watches as Y/N laughs one moment and then in the next second her expression is completely blank and attention elsewhere. Normally he'd be offended, but after learning what he could from Sookie he knows to never bring Y/N out of a trance. So in order to protect this little fae that just continues to become more and more interesting, Eric gets up and follows Y/N through the kitchen and out the back door.
He keeps several feet between himself and Y/N, his curiosity piqued as he notices her stop in the middle of the field behind her home. She glances back and forth as if searching for something, slowly turning in a circle. She winces and stumbles back, eyes wide and heart pumping furiously. Whatever's going on, Eric's instincts suddenly kick in and he doesn't like it. He doesn't like the look of fear on Y/N's face.
One sudden stumble sends Y/N to her knees, hands clamping around her ears.
"No, no, no," you mumble. The buzzing is extremely loud now, voices are screaming but you're still unable to make out what they're saying. Rocking back and forth, you glance around and your heart sinks as you watch Eric standing there across from you. "Go. Get away. I can't-"
"What's wrong? I can help you."
You shake your head. "You can't. You need to go. Get away from me. Please."
Eric watches you and you whimper when you see his resolve strengthen. He's not going anywhere. Clenching your eyes shut against the onslaught of noise, you slam your hands down on the ground in front of you and your fingers dig into the earth. Your breaths come faster and faster, and when you can't take it anymore your eyes fly open as you open your mouth and scream.
Your scream drowns out the buzz, the voices become clearer and it's only there alongside your scream do you understand them. You don't know how long you scream for, but when you stop your throat feels raw.
"What was that?" Eric asks.
"Sookie."
He's immediately kneeling before you, fingers under your chin to tilt your face upward. "What did you say?"
"My sister. She's not- she's not safe."
"She's at work under the ever watchful eye of the shifter."
"She is. Until she walks out back to take out the trash," you say. "Please," you beg. "Just.. just go check on her."
Eric continues to hold your gaze for a moment longer before he gives you a terse nod and then stands tall. Your eyes follow him as she lifts off into the air and it's like a weight is lifted off your chest. You sob in relief, curling in on yourself with your face in your hands.
"..inside.. safer.."
The hairs on the back of your neck stand up and your cries immediately cease. Sniffling, you sit back up and glance around the field you're in. Hearing the chirping insects and the ruffling of tree limbs puts you at unease, so you climb to your feet and hurriedly make your way back towards the house. You don't breathe until you're inside, behind closed doors, but even then you're still a little tense and wondering if your sister is okay.
The minutes tick on by as you pace back and forth in the kitchen, and you yelp when you turn around and Eric is standing right there. You raise a fist in order to punch him, but stop halfway there and instead poke his chest as you push him back a step. "Don't do that."
He smirks. "Sookie is fine. A couple of human junkies needed some money for their next fix. The sheriff is on the way to take care of the issue."
"Thank you." You sigh. As you move aside to take a seat at the table, you glance back at Eric and see a blood trail falling from his ear. Your eyes widen and you rush towards him, uncaring about boundaries when one hand lands on his chest and the other grasping his chin to turn his face sideways. "Your ear! I told you to leave before I screamed. Why didn't you listen?" You let go of his chin and then shove him a step back as you go back to pacing.
Eric chuckles. "You've been keeping secrets. You're not just Fae, are you?"
You shrug. "I'm not really sure what I am. I only found out I was part Fae because you guys told Sookie she was. The mind reading is from Fae abilities, but the screaming-"
"The wailing is a whole different breed."
You stop pacing and face him once more. "There's only one creature that wails," you say, "but I gave up on digging into our family history a long time ago."
"You truly are a rare breed, Miss Stackhouse. Half fae, half banshee. The vampires are going to be in a tizzy over you."
You groan. "A problem is inevitable until I agree to a claim, isn't it?"
"Aren't you a smart cookie."
You scowl at Eric then, holding his gaze until you sigh. "If I say yes to a claim, can I have your word that you won't take advantage?" He smiles then and though this vampire is ridiculously good looking, you rather not be someone's pet. But alas, you know he's right. "If the offer for a job at Fangtasia is still open, I'll take it. I don't plan to leave Bon Temps anytime soon and I'm going to need the cash."
"Sweetheart, if you agree to be mine I'll give you all the cash you could want."
Your nose wrinkles. "I'm so gonna regret this." There's a faint click! as Eric's fangs appear, his eyes darkening as he readily bites into his wrist. "Don't tell my sister."
Drink up, little one. We're going to have some fun.

Pilot
Eek! The first episode. Full disclosure- the first season is my absolute favorite and always will be. I just love it. It always takes me back. The opening song “There She Goes” transports me to the earliest naught and makes me incredibly nostalgic for my childhood. Ugggggghhhhhh I love it.
The way Luke looks at Lorelai... 🥰💗💕 He’s feigning annoyance but you know he’s harboring this longtime, intense crush. 🔥🔥🔥 Whew! How he can be so smitten with her while she wears that hat is confounding but nonetheless... I wish a man would look at me like that.
Luke’s baseball cap has an American flag on it which is weird.
The Independence Inn! I love the Independence Inn so much more than the Dragonfly. Sorry, not sorry. Drella was such a waste of a character. I love Alex Borstein but I am so glad that Melissa McCarthy got the role of Sookie and I honestly think Drella was completely unnecessary.
I really love the way Michel and Lorelai play off one another in this scene. Their chemistry is so good, I wish they would have kept writing Michel’s character this way instead of the direction they ultimately went in. They really did the snooty, obnoxious Frenchman thing to death but he could have been so much more.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I actually like Rory’s oversized sweater look (or as Lorelai put it, her muumuu).
LOL I cannot picture Lane listening to Eminem. Crazy Carrie is the Stars Hollow High English teacher.
I know this has been said by many people before but it’s ridiculous that Sookie is supposed to be this amazing, experienced chef but she is such a disaster in the kitchen. The way she chops those peppers? Where are her knife skills?? She has the audacity to correct her bilingual staff on their English grammar but has absolutely no idea how to safely operate a kitchen when she is supposedly this incredible cook? What a joke. She starts a fire on the range and the other chef just puts a lid over it but doesn’t turn off the burner? I know, I know. It’s supposed to be humorous, but still...
One of Michel’s best, most relatable and most quotable scenes. “People are particularly stupid today. I can’t talk to any more of them.” I literally feel this in my soul every day at work.
There are so many plants in Lorelai’s house! She doesn’t seem like the type that can keep houseplants alive. How are Lorelai and Sookie so put together and responsible? They’re both single women in their early thirties and they both own their own homes. How is that possible? Was it just because this was pre-2008 housing crisis? I am so jealous of Lorelai’s house.
Emily looks 10 years older in the pilot than she does in every subsequent episode. How did she age in reverse? Oh, Richard 💔 He’s kind of a garbage person throughout much of the series but he has those few redeeming moments which somehow more than make up for all the shitty things he does. I can't help but love him. And miss him. I know I’m getting old AF because I just caught myself thinking that he looks handsome in this episode 😱 He’s just so tall and masculine. His cheeky, smug grin when he says, “So, you need money.” 😍 Okay, I’m officially creeping myself out.
I love first season Rory + Dean. They’re so cute. Teenagers do not talk to each other like that but it’s completely endearing even if it’s not 100% believable. Dean is so open and vulnerable with Rory right off the bat. No 16-year-old boy talks like that to the girl he has a crush on. Not any of the ones I’ve ever encountered, anyway.
Lorelai and Rory are both eating salads at Luke’s. Weird! Oh, okay Luke brought them burgers. That’s more like it. But I feel like they definitely would’ve forgone the salads altogether in later episodes. The money Lorelai puts on the table to pay for the food falls on the floor and neither of them bother to pick it up. I always find it weird that Rory/Lorelai and Lane don’t acknowledge each other when they pass one another on the street. Not a nod, not a wave, not a half-smirk, nothing.
So when Lorelai realizes that Rory doesn’t want to go to Chilton because of a boy, Lorelai is understandably emotional. However, she literally says, “You are me,” and then proceeds to try and control Rory- doing exactly what Emily would have done in that situation. She doesn’t try and understand things from Rory’s perspective outside of how the situation could go badly. I honestly would have probably acted the same way, but Lorelai prides herself on being this “cool mom” who does things differently from her own controlling, suffocating mother. However, when she’s faced with Rory having a difference of opinion and acting like a moody teenager for once in her life, Lorelai’s first reaction is to “play the mom card” and fault Rory for falling for a boy. She basically tells Rory that she has no say in the matter and will be going to Chilton regardless of how she feels rather than talking things through. Again, I know she is just reacting to a situation in which she feels like the rug was pulled out from under her, but it’s funny to me that she reacts in the same way I would expect Emily to. And even though she acknowledges how similar she and Rory are, Lorelai reacts in a way that she would have totally resented if she were in Rory’s place.
I always thought it was weirdly out of character for Richard to fall asleep at the dinner table. He wasn’t that old- he would’ve only been 57 at that point.
Emily and Lorelai’s fight is so frustrating because I can understand where both were coming from. The two of them would have really benefitted from therapy. If Tony Soprano was doing it, why couldn’t the Gilmores?
I think Luke looks less attractive when he’s clean shaven and dressed up. It’s too jarring. He’s one of the very few men that look better to me with a baseball cap on.
Oh, the song they play at the end of the episode while it zooms out on Lorelai and Rory in Luke’s window from outside! Absolute perfection! Perfect opening song, perfect closing song. Great music choices all around in this episode.
Such a good pilot! I really, truly love it. I’ve watched it a million times and I could watch it a million more. 10/10.

Pairing : Eric Northman x Reader
Warnings: canon typical stuff
***
After you were sure you had obtained all the information from Eric that he possessed concerning Sophie-Anne and her scheming, you called your father for the second time that night. Once you finished filling him in, the silence stretched. You chewed at the inside of your lip waiting for him to speak. You’d learned early on that Roman wouldn’t be rushed and trying to make him would only piss him off.
“There was no room for misinterpretation in her words?” he finally asked.
The call was on speaker so you glanced at Eric. “No, sir. In fact, her instructions were rather detailed. She also intended to supply the blood so she could control the source.”
“I see.” Again, there was nothing but silence for several minutes until he took a deep breath. “Very well. I will be paying Sophie-Anne a visit. The two of you will accompany me.”
Eric cleared his throat. “There is some rather urgent business we must attend to out of state. When will you be arriving?”
You frowned at your mate and he shook his head. The look he gave you told you this wasn’t the time to discuss it.
“Does Y/N agree that this business is urgent?” your father asked.
“Unfortunately, yes.” You spoke without hesitation. You had done Eric a service by getting involved in this business with Sophie-Anne. He wouldn’t put off Roman’s visit for no reason.
Eric grasped your hand and squeezed it in thanks.
“Then call me when your business is concluded and I will schedule my visit accordingly,” he offered.
“Thank you, Daddy.”
Roman chuckled. Once you turned sixteen, the only times you called him daddy were when he did something for you that went above and beyond. “You’re welcome, angel.”
“I have an associate that I could have attempt to collect more information from Sophie-Anne while we are gone. Then at least the time wouldn’t be wasted,” Eric offered.
“Smart thinking, Northman. See it done. I’ll talk to the two of you later.”
“Love you, pop.”
“Love you, too.” You disconnected the call and looked at Eric. “So, what is this urgent business we have to attend to?”
He sighed and leaned back in his chair grasping your wrist as he went to pull you with him. Once you were settled in his lap and leaning against his chest, he started to run his fingers through your hair. “I was intending to have this conversation with you tomorrow after I was certain you’d fully recovered.”
You rolled your eyes though he couldn’t see it. “You’re an old vampire, Eric. I’m pretty sure I was fully recovered as soon as I’d finished drinking.”
He hummed in agreement before sighing again. “Godric is missing.”
You would have sat upright, but he kept you pressed against his chest. Concern spiked through you. Godric was old. And strong. “What do you mean missing?”
“Stan and Isabel called me. No one’s seen him or heard from him in weeks. No note nothing. It’s not like him.”
“No it’s not,” you agreed. “On the plus side there are few that would be able to overpower him so odds are he’s alive wherever he is. When do we leave?”
Eric chuckled. “Soon. We could use the help of your little telepath.”
“She does sort of owe me at the moment.” There was a very small part of you that felt guilty for using Sookie, but you were loyal to Eric. And at least you’d be upfront about what you needed from her. “She’ll need compensation.”
“Whatever you think is fair, alskling.”
“Even if that includes Bill?”
Eric stilled for a moment. “If you believe that is necessary.”
You laughed and patted his chest. “I don’t like it any better than you, but I know how Sookie thinks. I need to talk to him though. I’ll call her tomorrow and have her meet us at Fangtasia.”
***
A couple of hours passed before you found yourself heading into the basement at the club. It was dirty, dark and damp. In the middle, a giant gear was attached to the ceiling with poles coming down from it. Humans were attached to the poles on one side and Bill was secured across from them with silver chains. From the looks of him, he hadn’t fed since he’d been brought down here. “You’re so hospitable, baby.”
Eric laughed as you crossed the floor. He made sure to pull you to a stop well before you would be in reach of the hungry vampire. “Bill Compton, as you wished, mitt allt.”
Bill looked at you with wide, pleading eyes. “Y/N, you have to get me out of here. Get him to release me. Something happened to Sookie. I must ensure that she is all right.”
“Sookie’s fine, Bill. I know, because I was there. So was Sam. In fact, given how things have been going, he’s probably still there. He’ll take care of her.” You put your hands in your pockets and rocked back on your heels. “Now, what happens next is entirely up to you.”
“Option one: you agree to stop being a fucking twat and let Sookie and Sam continue on as they have been without your interference. I tell Sookie you’re down here and give her the option of freeing you. Option two: you tell me to fuck off and you’ll do what you want and no one ever knows you’re down here. You can slowly desiccate as far as I’m concerned.” Your gaze never left him as you laid out his options.
“And if I don’t do as I said once I’m free?” Bill asked like the dumbass he is.
“Oh, you’re not promising me shit. You’ll be taking an oath with your sheriff so you know exactly what will happen if you break it.”
Eric made a sound of agreement and nodded his head so Bill knew he backed what you were saying.
“It would seem I have no choice,” Bill grumbled.
***
It was shortly after sundown the next evening and you were gathered in Eric’s office with Sookie and Eric. “So, you want me to go to Dallas with you and see if I can help you find this friend?” Sookie asked once you’d explained everything to her. “And what’s in it for me?”
“Ten thousand and Sam can come with you. He’ll have to get over his hatred for all things fangy though,” you answered. “And we’ll release Bill.”
“Bill? You mean you knew where he was this whole time and you didn’t say anything?” You grimaced. The more irritated Sookie got, the whinier her voice got. It was more than a little abrasive.
“Bill was paying the price for his bad decisions. A price that is not yet paid in full. If I were you, I would accept my mate’s generous offer,” Eric said. “Or you may leave Bill in my care and simply take the money. That is also an option.”
“No. I accept. Bill and all,” she said.
“Very well. Y/N will bring you down.”
Your gaze trailed Eric as he left the room. You knew exactly what he was up to and you had to admit, it was a decent idea. You led Sookie toward that horrible dank basement. You’d made it half way down the stairs when Eric released Bill. He immediately launched himself at the human chained nearest to him and bit into him ravenously.
Sookie made a small sound of distress but remained where she was. It wasn’t until Bill turned his attentions to the next human that she turned and fled. The sound caught Bill’s attention and he growled at Eric. “Damn it, Eric.” He made to run past him and up the stairs but Eric grabbed his shoulder, stopping him.
“She’s not going anywhere. Eat. There’s a shower in the corner. I’ll have Pam bring you some clothes.”

Bill Compton’s problematic relationship with Jessica Hamby.....
This is a post I’ve wanted to do for a long time because out of all the relationships on the show (aside from Sookie/Bill), this is one of the few that bothers me the most. It’s a relationship held up by fans to be this loving father-daughter dynamic. However, when I first saw the show, I was left cold by it, and never understood why people thought it was a meaningful relationship.
Having just finished my rewatch, I can understand why I felt like that: There are MULTIPLE MOMENTS on the show where Bill’s treatment of Jessica is neglectful at best and abusive at worst. Most of the time, Bill either treats Jessica as a burden or someone he can use, and he barely knows what’s going in her life unless Jessica brings it up to him. That’s also including that he’s lied to her, betrayed her, hurt her, refused to do his duty to her as a maker to her unless forced to (or unless he got some benefit out of it), kept secrets from her, and was NASTY to her at various moments during the show. It got to a point where I kept wondering if I was watching the same show as everyone else. It’s especially egregious since plenty of people talking about how this was one of the best relationships on the show (which it isn’t).
In this list, I’m going through all the instances where Bill’s treatment of Jessica ranges from neglectful to abusive. All of them span over the course of 7 seasons, so POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD! The reason I am doing this is to highlight the issues with this relationship, and why I think it’s problematic that the show (and fans) treat this as a good relationship when it’s anything but. Without further ado:
1.) After Jessica gets turned into a vampire, Bill makes a half-assed attempt to get her to drink True Blood instead of teaching her how to feed properly and safely from a human. When this doesn’t work, he dumps Jessica with Eric.
2.) Bill proceeds to leave Jessica with Eric for two weeks (and makes not attempt to ever pick her up) until Eric comes back with Jessica and tells Bill to start doing his job as a maker. One has to question if Bill would have ever picked Jessica up from Fangtasia if Eric hadn't come.
3.) From the end of season 1 till season 3, Bill consistently treated Jessica like she was a burden and an embarrassment to him, even though Jessica was a teenager who needed help and support and wasn’t familiar with being a vampire.
4.) Bill wastes Jessica's time teaching her how to recycle when he should have taught her how to feed from a human. He knows that she can't live off of True Blood, and that she's going to have to learn to feed safely so she isn't a danger to others. He fails to do this for her.
5.) At one point, Bill slut-shames Jessica for her attire, and it's played for laughs instead of Bill being called out for his misogynistic behavior.
6.) When Jessica is kissing Hoyt, Bill grabs Jessica and violently throws her across the room even though she wasn't feeding from Hoyt. There is no reason that, as her maker, he couldn't have ordered her to stop, or just restrained her without using physical violence.
7.) Bill keeps secrets from Jessica (like his mission from Queen Sophie Anne) that puts her in danger. He never establishes a contingency plan with her if she came into contact with a powerful vampire and either needed to defend herself, get away from them, or hide from them. The result is Franklin Mott (a serial rapist) shows up at her front door and her life is almost put in danger because of it.
8.) Jessica is forced to get her first job on her own to make money instead of getting any help from Bill.
9.) Bill was set to release Jessica in season 3 despite being a newborn and barely having an idea on how to feed from someone safely. She also had no training to protect herself from other vampires or humans who wanted to harm her. This is basically the equivalent of a parent throwing their kid out of the house. It’s not okay that Jessica has to BEG Bill to be a proper maker to her because he was doing a shit job at it.
10.) Bill drags Jessica into a dangerous situation against werewolves and a 3000 year old vampire who almost succeeds in killing her. Bill knew she wasn’t ready after only one training session, and Jessica’s life was endangered because of his carelessness.
11.) After the fight at Sookie’s house, the last we see of Jessica is her being chased away by a werewolf. Not only does Bill NOT bother to check to see if Jessica is okay afterwards, he proceeds to have gross unappealing sex with Sookie in the middle of her destroyed house. It’s all about him and what he wants in that moment, and it’s like he completely forgets Jessica.
12.) Bill doesn’t ever tell Jessica the real reasons for why Sookie broke up with him (i.e. that he allowed the Rattarays to beat the shit out of her) and lets Jessica believe that Sookie was at fault for the break-up and that she was a bad girlfriend to him.
13.) Bill tells Jessica that she’s required to be honest with Hoyt even though he isn’t honest with her.
14.) When Antonia breaks free from Bill’s prison and plans to cast a spell that will force vampires to walk into the sun, instead of sending Jessica out of Louisiana to keep her safe so that she wouldn’t be targeted by Antonia’s spell, Bill keeps her with him for some unexplained reason.
15.) Bill refuses to completely silver Jessica when Antonia is about to cast her spell. This results in Jessica breaking free, killing a guard, and almost walking into the sun before Jason saves her. His neglect in that moment almost got Jessica killed AGAIN.
16.) Even after Jessica almost gets killed, Bill STILL DOESN’T SEND HER AWAY despite the fact there’s a dangerous necromancer on the loose who could target her and possess her. He even drags Jessica to Moon Goddess Emporium against Antonia/Marnie, and puts her in danger because of his recklessness. Jessica almost gets killed because of this, but the show never calls out Bill for it.
17.) When Bill and Eric are forced to go on the run from the Authority after killing Nan Flanagan, Bill calls Jessica and lies to her about everything being fine and not to worry. He doesn't warn her that the Authority is coming after them. This is actually dangerous for Jessica because if the Authority had failed to capture Bill and Eric before they left the house, they might have gone after Jessica to capture, torture, and interrogate her on Bill's whereabouts. And even though that doesn't happen, the point is that it could have happened because Bill refused to warn her.
18.) When Bill comes back to see Jessica later in season 5, he lies to her about still being King (which doesn't bode well for Jessica if other vampires try to take advantage of her), he doesn't really bother to check on Jessica to see if she's doing okay and just assumes she is, and he isn't truthful with her about what's really going on: That there's a good chance he and Eric may get killed either bringing in Russell Edgington, or that the Authority may still have them executed for treason. Either way, he withholds this information from her instead of having Jessica prepare for the worst.
19.) When Bill becomes Chancellor in the Authority and joins up with the Sanguinistas, he sends the Authority guards to forcibly escort Jessica to HQ (while also commanding Jessica as her maker to go with them) and tries to force Jessica to convert to the Sanguinista ideology whether she likes it or not. Jessica even pointing out this is exactly how her biological family behaved towards her. He also tries to keep her locked up and isolated to convert her.
20.) When Jessica begs Bill to let her warn Jason and Sookie about Russell and Steve coming after them, Bill refuses to let her go warn them, and makes it clear that he doesn't care if they get captured, tortured, or killed because he just sees them as food at this point. It doesn’t matter to Bill that Jason and Sookie are her friends and are in danger.
21.) In an act of petty cruelty, Bill bullies Jessica into turning Jason into a vampire against his will by sending two Authority guards to make sure she goes through with this.
22.) When Jessica returns after refusing to turn Jason, and later stands up to Bill, he gets physically violent and SMACKS HER clear across the room before having her imprisoned. What makes this worse is that there is no moment later on where he apologizes to Jessica for being abusive towards her. It's glossed over by the show.
23.) Bill leaves Jessica to die at the Authority, and it’s only when he realizes she’s alive that he summons her in the most painful way possible (i.e. she’s puking up blood and feels like she’s going to die if she doesn’t answer Bill’s summons). He later indicates he knows this was hurting Jessica and doesn’t care.
24.) He deflects any responsibility for hitting Jessica and imprisoning her by claiming he’s not the same person that did that. Again, there is no moment on the show where he apologizes to her for his behavior.
25.) Once he manipulates Jessica into staying with him again, Bill/Billith makes Jessica responsible for his emotional well being and his “humanity.” In other words, he knows he’s going to be doing awful things in the future, and instead of owning up to that, he’s making Jessica responsible for being a good person. That is abusive.
26.) He later tasks Jessica with dressing up in a sexually provocative way to kidnap a professor against his will. Putting aside how he previously slut-shamed her for having revealing clothing, it’s pretty gross that he’s now having Jessica participate in his crimes.
27.) He has Jessica lure Andy’s faerie girls to his mansion l(ike one of those creepy Unsubs from Criminal Minds) and tasks Jessica with keeping an eye on them. He makes no attempts to ensure the faerie girls safety, especially since Jessica has a history of poor impulse control. Not even an “As your maker, I command you not to feed on these faerie girls.” And then he leaves her alone with them. Shock of all shockers, Jessica loses control and 3 out of 4 of the faerie girls are dead.
28.) When Jessica is high on faerie blood and consumed with guilt over killing the faerie girls, Bill coldly tells her to sleep it off. He makes no attempt to comfort her or make sure she doesn’t do something stupid (since she’s drunk on faerie blood and not in a rational state of mind), nor does he make any attempt to give his blood to the other faerie girls in a possible attempt to revive them. He doesn’t care. He just found out about Warlow, which means Jessica’s guilt and the deaths of the faerie girls mean nothing to him. The result is that Jessica runs off to Jason’s for comfort, and gets captured by the LAVTF and sent to Vamp Camp. All because of Bill’s neglect.
29.) At the end of season 6, Bill goes off to do a 6-month book tour while he leaves Jessica behind to deal with the guilt of killing Andy’s faerie kids. There is no moment where he expresses remorse for his role in their deaths, nor does he make any attempt to help Jessica heal over the trauma and guilt of what happened.
30.) In season 7, when Bill finds out that Jessica hasn’t been feeding because she still feels guilty over what happened, and that she’s also offering protection to Adylin, this is what he says to her:
“So you are protecting Adilyn? And she is not feeding you in exchange for that protection?”
Not only is Bill completely unaware of Jessica’s mental and emotional state right now (because he’s that neglectful of her), but he lacks self-awareness about WHY Jessica doesn’t want to feed from Adylin: She’s the one that lost control and drained Adylin’s sisters. This idea that Bill perpetrates that Jessica’s relationship with Adylin should be a transaction where she only protects her in exchange for something is so revealing about what kind of person Bill Compton is: Every relationship is a pragmatic transaction for him. Bill only cares about other people when it is convenient for him. And he couldn’t bother to help Jessica when she was struggling with remorse over her actions whereas he felt no guilt over what he did.
What. An. Asshole.
31.) At the end of season 7, Bill opts to kill himself without caring about how this going to affect Jessica emotionally. Keep in mind that in season 4, Jessica had Bill promise not to ever commit suicide again (after he supposedly tried to do so when Marnie ordered him and Eric to kill each other). And once again, Bill breaks that promise because it’s all about him and what he wants. What makes this even more repugnant is he frames this as a good thing for both him and Jessica.
32.) In his final act of being an asshole, Bill pressures Jessica into getting married to Hoyt even though he doesn’t have his memories and they still haven’t worked through the issues that caused their relationship to fall apart in the first place. When Jessica expresses concern about this (since this is all happening too fast), Bill uses the death of his biological daughter (i.e. the same one he refused to save in that season 5 flashback) to guilt-trip Jessica into doing this marriage so that she’ll be “spoken for.” He’s basically shoving his patriarchal (and misogynistic) beliefs onto Jessica.
There are probably other moments that I missed, but the overall gist I’ve gotten from this relationship is that it’s one-sided, and that Bill’s treatment of Jessica is not only awful, it’s emotionally (and in some cases, physically) abusive. There’s this fanon idea that’s gone around for many years that Bill was this wonderful maker and father-figure to Jessica, which is NOT supported by what’s shown.
What makes this problematic is that the show tried to frame this like it’s a relationship we’re suppose to root for. Personally, I’m left cold by it. I can think of many other platonic relationships on this show (Andy/Terry, Sookie/Jason, Tara/Lafayette, etc) that were either better written, more heartwearming, or had meaningful character development that lasted. Bill/Jessica was not one of those. It’s bad enough that Bill’s an awful character who continues to age like spoiled milk, but this relationship he has with Jessica.........................it makes my skin crawl.
Jessica deserved so much better than Bill. She deserved a maker who actually put effort into their relationship with her (and not when it was convenient for them), and Bill deserved to be called out for his treatment of Jessica during the show. I HATE this relationship, and it’s one more reason why Bill Compton is one of the WORST characters I have ever seen on a TV show.

The Great Valentine’s Day Not a Date
Tumblr media
Fanfiction.
AO3
Wanting to take advantage of Valentine's Day deal at a swanky restaurant, Lorelai invites Luke out on a date. Not a date. Because two friends can enjoy a nice dinner without it meaning anything, right? Season 4
~~~~~~~~~
Lorelai walked up to the diner's steps just in time for Taylor to come sailing down them courtesy of a scowling Luke whose presence filled the doorway. She stumbled out of the way, not to be taken out by a hairpiece and a sweater vest, and watched as Taylor composed himself and dusted off said sweater vest before he attempted to speak again only to be met with a vicious sounding threat from Luke that had him finally scurrying away from the diner. Once the show was over, Lorelai looked up at Luke with curious eyes.
"Are you throwing everyone out or is this just a Taylor thing?"
Luke looked down at her, seemingly just noticing her presence. He stepped to the side and held the door open so she could enter. "Come on."
She took a step and watched him carefully. "Not if this is going to end with me flying down the steps, these boots are not made for that activity."
"Do you want some coffee or not?"
"Yes, please."
"Then come on," he said with a jerk of his head to the inside of the diner. "I don't have all day."
She hurried up the steps. "Such a gentleman," she teased him, making her way past him and into the diner where she settled herself upon her chosen stool at the counter.
Luke was seconds behind her, rounding the corner of the counter and pulling out a mug and the coffee-pot with a well-practiced ease. He slid the cup across the counter to her before finding a stray menu and setting it down next to her coffee mug because he knew as soon as he didn't, she would ask for one even though she knew the menu backwards and forwards.
After taking a sip, she looked at him over the rim of her coffee cup. "Want to talk about it?" she asked, trading the coffee mug for the menu and briefly glancing over the lines.
"About what?" Luke responded as he started to wipe down the counter.
"Uh, the Taylor flying act that happened right outside the diner," Lorelai replied. "I was there, you were there, Taylor was briefly there. I think you may have ripped his sweater vest. I've never seen him move that fast before except that one time he accidentally gave away the wrong coupons for his store."
Luke continued to wipe down the counter. "It was nothing, just Taylor being Taylor." He nodded his head towards the menu. "You gonna order something?"
"Cheeseburger, hold all the healthy stuff, and fries," Lorelai answered. She waited until he gave the order to Caesar in the kitchen and was back in front of her before she spoke again. "You know just because you tried distracting me with food, doesn't mean I'm going to let it go."
"What are you talking about?"
"Taylor and the incredible, amazing adventures that led to him getting literally thrown out of the diner," Lorelai answered. She pushed her used menu out of the way and once again picked up her cup of coffee. "Now, tell me."
He crossed his arms. "Why do you want to know so bad?"
"To make sure that I don't do whatever he did to get whatever he deserved because as I said before but will say it again because it needs repeating, the boots are not made for flying."
Luke sighed, exasperated and knowing that she would eventually wear it out of him. "He wants to use the diner for speed-dating."
Lorelai smiled. "Now, see was that so hard?" she questioned then barreled on before getting a response. "Speed-dating, huh?"
"Yeah," Luke answered with a nod of his head. "He wants me to shut the diner down on Valentine's Day so he can hold speed-dating for all the lovely singles of Stars Hollow," he replied, the last part a direct quote from Taylor himself.
"Stars Hollow has lovely singles?" Lorelai asked.
"Oh, not just Stars Hollow," Luke replied, getting worked up again. "He thinks word will spread and it'll get so big that we'll get singles from Woodbridge, and Hartford and Litchfield."
She smiled again, ever amused by his rants. "And he wants to hold it here at the diner, why?"
"He thinks I won't charge him," Luke answered bluntly, seething again from anger. "But, oh is he wrong about that! And he wants me to prepare a special Valentine's Day menu for all the lonely singles that are stupid enough to get roped into speed-dating thinking that they'll find their perfect match with asinine questions like 'what's your favorite color? oh blue, me too!' The whole concept is a waste of time."
"You think in speed-dating when you only spend like what, five minutes, with each other, that people focus on questions like what's your favorite color?"
"I don't know," Luke said with a shrug of his shoulders. "I've never been."
She feigned shock. "I never would've guessed."
He brushed off her sarcasm. "It's a waste of time," he reiterated. "What happened to meeting people the old-fashioned way?"
"Well, grandpa, times are-a changing."
"No, I'm serious."
Lorelai gestured his way. "This coming from the guy with the gut thing when it comes to dating."
"That works," Luke punctuated his point by jabbing his finger into the diner counter. "Speed-dating doesn't."
She held up her hands in mock-surrender. "I'm not pro speed-dating, it sounds like a nightmare. Sitting at a table while man after man rotates around spitting out what they think are interesting facts about themselves but it's just a reason that you wouldn't want to date them. I'm with you, it seems like a waste of time."
He tapped the counter with his fingers again. "I'm gonna go check on your food."
Lorelai nodded her head in response and traded their conversation for sipping on her coffee that had started to cool off. Her mind drifted to what had ultimately drove her to the diner in the first place. Not that she would've avoided the diner if the events of today hadn't happened but when the small things started to pile up, she needed the warmth of the diner. And the coffee.
Valentine's Day was approaching and that meant Stars Hollow was fully decorated in various shades of reds and pinks and there were cut-out hearts and cartoon cupids that plastered every store window. All except Luke's of course. And usually she would bug him into decorating the diner for the holiday, even if it was one red heart in the window, but this year, she couldn't even work up the nerve to bug him. It was as if everyone around her was in love or coupled up and planning something for the holiday and yet, here she was, single and no dating options in her near vicinity. And it didn't help that her last date was months and months ago.
Earlier this morning, she had spent the time she had devoted to meeting with Sookie and Michel about renovations for The Dragonfly, listening to Sookie gush over everything she was planning for Jackson for Valentine's Day and how he kept hinting at what he had planned for her. She thought that she could at least commiserate with Michel over their mutual lack of plans but apparently even he had plans for the holiday. To top it all off, her mother had graciously offered her a package deal that she had been gifted since it would go to waste with them since they had their own plans for Valentine's Day, like every other couple. It was an all-inclusive deal for a swanky restaurant in Hartford that promised a delicious multi-course meal, the best, bubbling prosecco, and fancy-shmancy desserts. Her words, not the restaurant's, but it still rang true. And, if she had a date, it would be something that she would've loved to take advantage of, not that she would let her mother know that, but she had no date. She didn't even have any prospects for a date.
And so, to the diner she came because if she could commiserate with anyone over this, it would be Luke. As far as she knew, he was in the same boat as her when it came to dating options. As expected, he was doing an excellent job of commiserating with her even if he wasn't aware of it.
"Dead cow," he deadpanned, placing the cheeseburger in front of her.
"Your customer service is top-notch, I hope you know that," she replied sarcastically.
"Need anything else?"
She smiled and pointed to the ketchup bottle that was clearly within her reach, if only she stretched a little. "Ketchup?"
He rolled his eyes but slid the ketchup bottle closer to her plate. "Anything else?"
She shook her head. "All good here." She waited for him to walk off before dressing her burger to her liking but when he didn't budge, she looked up at him. "Can I help you with something?"
"It's all a sham anyway," Luke answered.
"My burger?" She looked closely at the burger on her plate. "Did you give me a turkey burger?"
"Valentine's Day."
"Oh," Lorelai said as lifted a fry to her mouth and took a bite. From the sound of it, she was going to get dinner and a show. "Let me guess, it's a holiday created by a greeting card companies to pry hard-earned money out of the suckers willing to give in and participate?"
"Exactly," Luke agreed, unaware her intentions of egging him on. "They create this holiday that says there's one day a year that it's mandatory to show your love for your partner by buying flowers and candy and making reservations at a restaurant that's booked out weeks in advance, all because of the expectations people place on one day."
Lorelai nodded and agreed through a mouthful of burger, trying to encourage his rant on. She loved his rants. And it was perfect for the commiseration she sought.
"You could do any of that any other day of the year but that doesn't matter, not if you miss planning something for this one day of the year. It's manufactured to draw as much money out of consumers as possible. They jack up the prices of flowers and there are chumps stupid enough to fall for it all because of a fake holiday. It's a sham, it's not real."
"Hear, hear," Lorelai bellowed, holding up her nearly empty coffee cup in agreement and as a request for more coffee.
"You're agreeing with me?" Luke asked incredulously while he poured fresh coffee into her cup. "But you're crazy about every holiday. Last Valentine's Day, you badgered me into putting up decorations."
"I'm a new woman this year," Lorelai replied. "This year I'm on your side, I'm anti-Valentine's Day."
After putting the coffee pot back in its warmer, he leaned down on the counter in front of her. "Feels good to have someone to share this with."
Lorelai smiled at him. "Agreed."
The diner was in a lull and besides her, there weren't too many customers. Still, Luke left her alone for a minute to tend to the other guest's needs before he was behind the counter again and striking up a conversation centered around the holiday that they were now both against.
"I'm guessing you don't have plans for Valentine's Day," he said.
She shook her head. "Nope. No cupid with a special love arrow for me this year."
"If I decide to gouge Taylor out of all his money, you could always come to the diner for speed-dating," Luke joked.
She let out a small laugh. "With my luck, I'd get matched up with Kirk."
"Not even with Kirk, he has Lulu," Luke reminded her. "He's also approached me with a deal about renting out the diner for the night."
"Aw, that's kind of cute though," Lorelai pondered. "I'm sure Kirk would make it weird but it's a nice gesture."
"It's not happening," Luke said definitively.
"Again, I'm shocked," she replied sarcastically.
He grabbed the rag from underneath the counter and began to clean it again. "No plans at all, not even with Rory?"
"You think I have Valentine's plans with my daughter?"
His face was screwed with confusion, "Seems like something the two of you would do. You two have traditions for other holidays, this one doesn't have to be any different."
"I'm joking," Lorelai assured him from her tone before. "Rory and I usually do have a Valentine's Day traditions that involves lots of movies, the really cheesy rom-com ones, and all the heart-shaped candy we can buy for ourselves."
"But not this year?"
"Right. She's been seeing someone from Yale and he's made plans for Valentine's Day."
"Chump." When he noticed her expression, he continued on. "Him for falling for the manufactured holiday, not Rory."
There was a grin on her face as she shook her head. "You make things like this too easy."
"Glad I can amuse you."
"That's why I come here, dinner and a show."
He gestured down to her mostly devoured burger and fries that she was just playing around with at this point. "You done with that?"
She nodded and pushed the plate towards him. "Pie?"
"Apple or cherry?"
"Both."
He cleared the plate in front of her and returned mere moments later with a new plate covered with her requested two pieces of pie. "I'm out of ice cream so don't ask."
She pretended to salute him, "Yes, sir," before she started to dig into her pie. "But you know," she began, after finishing a bite of the combined apple and cherry pies, "Valentine's Day isn't all that bad."
"I thought you were being anti-Valentine's Day."
"I still am but I can see the value in it still, even if you do believe it's a made-up holiday. It can be nice to have a special someone willing to woo you on this day with flowers and candy, even if everyone else is doing the same thing with their special someone," Lorelai explained away with a small shrug of her shoulders. "It's a nice thought, that's all."
"I guess," Luke half-heartedly agreed. "If they're not placing too many expectations on the day, it could be nice."
"Aw, look at you Mr. Softy," Lorelai teased. "Falling for Valentine's Day."
"Not another word or I take back the pie."
She pulled her plate closer to her. "Don't you dare."
He shook his head and the tiniest of grins threatened his features. "If you're really into the holiday, it could be nice."
Scared that her pie might really be taken away, she chose to stay silent and settled for a smile that meant she appreciated his agreement on the topic. It could be nice. And this was nice; having a person to commiserate with and easy-flowing conversation with no hiccups where one person wasn't sure what to say. It was nice to have a friend. Honestly, it was kind of a shame that Valentine's Day was only reserved for couples, friends could spend time together and take advantage of great deals that were offered. Like the package deal that her mother had offered her and that the details for currently resided in her purse.
"Ugh, I wish friends could go on Valentine's Day dates," Lorelai sympathized with herself out loud, catching the attention of Luke. For him to not think that she was completely crazy, she retrieved the offer's details from her purse. "My mother gave this to me because her and my father passed on it, I guess she thinks I have a reason to celebrate, but look at it. A fancy dinner at a swanky restaurant, bubbly prosseco, and look at those desserts! They look amazing!"
Luke took the paper from her that laid out the specifics of what she was rambling on about. He saw it as another ploy to drag money out of those willing to shell out as much as it cost but she was clearly excited. "So why don't you go?"
"It clearly states it's for couples, Luke," Lorelai replied. "As in a couple of people. As in more than one. And I'm just one. No date."
"I'm sure you could find someone willing to tag along."
"And what, find someone that wants to date me and doesn't think it's crazy that I'm asking them out on a date on a day that has all these romantic expectations?" Lorelai questioned. "Yeah, that wouldn't come off crazy at all."
"I meant," Luke began to explain. "I'm sure you could find someone, like a friend who doesn't expect it to be a date, to go with you. Ask around."
"Maybe," Lorelai agreed. "It could just be a friend. Someone I already know."
"Right."
"Because then we'd be a couple of people," Lorelai followed up. "Taking advantage of a great deal. As friends."
"Shouldn't be that hard to find someone."
A plan started to form in her mind and a devious, little smile crossed her face. "You're right, it shouldn't be that hard."
He continued on, unaware of what she was thinking. "You have lots of friends. You could find someone."
She leaned her face into her hands and watched him. The same conniving smirk on her face. "I could find someone."
He caught her eye and the gears began to twist and turn in his mind. He knew that look. That was the look she gave him whenever she wanted something. The look he usually gave into. "No."
"I didn't say anything."
"But you were going to and the answer is no."
"You don't know that."
"I know that look."
She put on a mask of innocence, pretending to be blissfully unaware that he was indeed catching on to her newly formed plan. "What look?"
"That look!" he exclaimed with a finger pointing at her. "I'm not going to say yes."
Lorelai leaned across the counter, giving him her best and brightest smile as she asked, "Do you want to go on a Valentine's Day date with me?" Before he could answer, she tacked on. "As friends."
"No."
"Come on Luke, you just said..."
He interrupted. "I know that I said but I'm not that friend. You have other friends."
"Not that many."
"Go ask one of the not many."
"They're all coupled up," Lorelai replied. "But we're not. And it wouldn't mean anything, just two friends taking advantage of a great deal. Did I mention it's free because my parents know someone that know someone that gave this to them? It wouldn't cost either of us a single penny. Just a couple hours of your time."
"Find someone else," he said before he walked away from her.
But she was quick and popped up from her seat and followed him around the diner as he began to check in with other customers and bus a couple of dirty tables. "Come on, now, you gave me the idea."
"I'm working, Lorelai."
"And I'm not stopping you, just following you," Lorelai replied as she did continue to follow him. She even picked a up a few dirty dishes herself. "See, I'm helping. It's just one night, Luke."
"I'll take those," he said, ignoring her plea.
She tried to follow him into the kitchen but was stopped when he stopped in the doorway and wouldn't let her pass. "Like going out with me would be that terrible that you have to hide in the kitchen to get away from my questions."
"I said no," Luke shouted back, trading places with Caesar in the kitchen since it's the one place Lorelai wasn't allowed. "I'm working."
"There's no new customers and I can help with those dishes if it'll get you to agree to this with me." She wasn't opposed to begging and it looked like that's where this was headed. "Please, Luke. Just one night. It'll get you away from the diner, it'll be a nice night out. When's the last time you went out?"
"I'm fine with not going out."
"Okay, Unabomber, everyone needs to get out of the house every now and then," Lorelai chimed in. "Look at it this way, if you agree to this, you'll be away from the diner for the night and won't have to deal directly with couples on the holiday you hate and, bonus, you won't have to deal with Taylor and his constant nagging of wanting to have a speed-dating event and why you don't participate in the town's events."
When he didn't immediately respond and seemed to be thinking about what she was saying, she smiled. "I see I've piqued your interest."
"Being rid of Taylor for the night is promising," Luke said, meeting her half-way.
"That's the cherry on top," Lorelai quipped. "And all it'll cost you is spending a couple hours with me, away from the diner. Am I really that annoying to you that you'd rather spend the time listening to Taylor nagging you?"
He didn't answer that question because it was loaded and instead, he met her with a question of his own. "Would I have to dress up?"
"All I ask is that the flannel and the hat take a break for the night," Lorelai reassured him. "But if they're essential to getting you to agree to this, I'll allow it."
He blew out a breath. "Fine. I guess it won't kill me."
She let out a little squeal and clapped her hands together. "I love when men say that to me."
"I'm not wearing a suit."
"Oh, hon, I wouldn't ask that of you," Lorelai said, through a grin. "I'll pick you up at 8."
"You'll pick me up?" he questioned.
"I asked you out on this non-date," Lorelai reminded him. "So, therefore, I'm the non-dater and you're the non-date-e, so I'll pick you up."
"I can pick you up," Luke offered.
"Whatever works for you." She clapped her hands together again in excitement. "It's a date!"
His eyes widened and he clarified and repeated what she had said before. "Not a date."
"Not a date date," Lorelai agreed. "But a friend date."
He sighed and wondered exactly what he was getting himself into. "I'll pick you up at 8."
"It's not a date!"
Still here. For now. Not for long though. I went to the hockey games with my dad on Saturday night. It was going to be the last time we spent together before i killed myself. At the game, i met up with some teammates from my hockey team and one lady who I’m really close with knew i wasn’t right. I didnt go into detail with her but i said I wasn’t right. She convinced me to come to hockey training the next morning. I was going to kill myself the next day, but another thing that also influenced my decision not to was, i met a couple of my idols that play for Australia. I got a couple of photos and got to speak to a player who is also an Ambassador for R U OK? So she’s passionate about mental health. During me and my dad watching the match i opened up to him about how i was feeling and what was going on, he also didnt really get it. I asked him what he thought schizophrenia was and he said ‘split personailty’....why does everyone think schizophrenics have split personalities? Anyway i was feeling ok and went to hockey training yesterday morning. I’m a goalkeeper and played like shit, so that got me down.
I cant sleep, the voices and hallucinations are so bad. I’m losing my mind. I cant do this anymore. My dads being an arse to me this morning. He doesn’t understand, even though i told him everything on Sunday. He’s like what’s wrong with you, you’re in a sooky mood, you’re not watching your favourite show which is on tv now, you have an attitude and all this shit. Now hes gone, hes left the house and gone somewhere, he slammed the door. He was going to take me to the hockey store to get me some new goalie gear but i said don’t worry about it anymore, and hes like why and i said because your wasting your time and money. Then he proceeded to have a go at me and left.
I know my dads going to be out all day tomorrow, so thats it now. I’m gone. I’m leaving the house and disappearing. No one will find my body. I cant bare this pain anymore. I have no support and especially no family support. I just want someone to try and understand me, try and help me, but no one can. The mental health system is fucked so much, and I’m hurting so bad. Psychiatrists don’t take me seriously, and the one i saw on Friday just called me a stubborn immature child for not taking meds. I can’t even go to hospital for help. It’s not an option, they either don’t listen to me or drug me up and then send me away with no support. Or worse, go to emergency and hear them call you attention seeking, which makes you feel even more suicidal and alone. Then you try running away and attempting suicide and if you fail your back in hospital and they admit you for a 3 day crisis admission which is usually hopeless, you get discharged even if you’re still feeling unsafe and at risk. The system sucks. There’s just no hope.
So many people kill themselves each day, more than we’ll ever realise. And now I’m going to be one of those people. I’m going to be just another statistic.
Let Em’ Know (Part 3)
Tumblr media
Previously on Let Em’Know.......(Click here for part 2)
“You are a dumbass motherfucker. You are playing with fire and you are not the only one going to get burned. You know that, right? Keep it up and you on your own. I ain’t getting burned, Erik.” Erik took a drag of his blunt and blew out the smoke. “Ain’t shit getting burned but this blunt right here. My ex ain’t got nothing to do with anything, aight? If you were really with me, you would know that I got you. Stop bugging.” She put the car in drive. “Be careful. That’s all I’m saying.” Erik chuckled deeply taking another hit of the blunt. “When am I not?”
*************************
“I’m just saying....let a girl eat your ass. I wasn’t too sure about it because I was gonna feel like a little bitch but that shit is therapeutic.” Rayvon explained to Neriah who stared at him in disgust and he lightly pushed her. “Hey, don’t knock it until you try it! It’s like head but in your ass!”
Neriah had her face scrunched up and shook her head. “No, Ray Ray! I’m not eating her ass!”
Rayvon sucked his teeth hard, tucking his football under his arm and squinted his eyes at her. “I didn’t tell you to eat her ass! I’m telling you to let her eat yours! My nigga, where the fuck do you listen? Out of your ass?” He jumped off the porch railing he was seated on and crouched down to be face to face with Neriah’s butt. “LET THE GIRL EAT YOUR ASS!”
“RAYVON, GET YOUR FUCKING FACE OUT OF MY ASS!”
You sat on the porch with your phone in your hand, texting Erik and ignoring the two imbeciles fighting on your porch. You had a tiny smirk as your thumbs danced across the keyboard. You didn’t want to admit it but you felt giddy texting him. It was like high school all over again. You were falling for him all over again but you couldn’t let him know that. You were still making this nigga sweat even though it’s been a couple weeks since he came back. You had to make sure you weren’t wasting your time and your heart on this nigga.
Erik: Ugh I can’t wait to kiss you, princess. Why you torturing a nigga like this?
You: I told you this wasn’t going to be easy, baby boy
Erik: Baby boy?  I’m liking that nickname. I’d love to hear that while you’re riding my....
You: Your what, Stevens? Stop being nasty.
Erik: Damn it, princess. I was going to say riding my BMW to our date. Get your mind out of the gutter.
You giggled at his text and before you could reply, another text from him came through.
Erik: But if you really want the D, I’ll let you ride it after
You rolled your eyes snorting at the text and locked your phone. Another one came and you looked at the preview and it read:
Erik: Leave a nigga on read again like I won’t pull up on your ass
You bit your lip, feeling very mischievous. Getting on Erik’s nerves will always be entertaining. He basically said “Try me” so you know what you did? You tried him. You clicked on the conversation and exited and waited nervously for the response. Once it came, it was one word:
Erik: Bet.
You began to giggle even louder than you did before, this time, interrupting Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumbass.
“Oh Sookie sookie now!” Neriah grinned and slapped Rayvon’s chest gesturing towards you. “Pop quiz, Ray. Who got two thumbs and is in love with Erik motherfucking Stevens?”
“Motherfucking Y/N!” Rayvon sang as the two flocked over to you to keep bugging you. You stopped yourself from slapping them.
“Can y’all fuck off? Ain’t nobody in love!” You lied but they weren’t convinced.
“If you’re not in love, then I wanna fuck Ray.”
You and Rayvon both raised eyebrows at her. You two looked at each other and back at her. Rayvon licked his lips doing the Birdman hand rub.
“I mean Riah, I’m just saying, if you wanna try, it’s all you. But this dick comes with a warning label.”
“Yeah, it says “Caution: small size may disppoint you.” You joked and Neriah cackled in response, jumping up and down. Rayvon has a salty expression on his face and stood, glaring at you two laughing at his expense.
“I don’t know why I’m friends with y’all. Y’all are straight bullies, I swear.” Rayvon began to walk away and you and Neriah ran to hug his waist.
“We sorry, Ray Ray!”
“Damn Princess. Why the fuck Raytron getting more getting more love than me?” You glanced up to see Erik pouting in your pathway. You rolled your eyes playfully and walked up to your boo thang that technically wasn’t your boo thang but you would slice his big ass nose off if he talked to someone else. You wrapped your arms around his torso and he hugged you back tightly, causing you to squeal.
“Told you I was going to pull up on your ass.”
“I didn’t take you seriously.”
Erik chuckled pulling away. “You see that’s your problem. You never wanna take a nigga serious.”
“Wait hold up why you call this nigga Raytron?” Neriah scrunched up her nose gesturing towards your other friend. Rayvon began to pop his collar, chuckling.
“You see, they called me that because I’m a transformer. I be transforming these girls into my number 1 fans once this dick gets inside them.”
Erik snorted, laughing into his hand. “Nigga, you lying! We called you that because your loser ass was obsessed with Transformers. With your nerdy ass.”
“Oh Ray is definitely a nigga in disguise.” You stated covering your mouth as all of you except Rayvon laughed at your joke.
Rayvon sucked his teeth once again point you and Erik. “You see, you and Y/N are perfect each other. Both of y’all are some fucking bullies, I swear.”
“Aww Ray Ray we love you!”
“Suck a dick and die. Fuck y’all.” Rayvon walked out of your gate and all three of you laughed at him. You noticed a black Volvo parked across the street and stared a little bit. You would love to get a car like that.
“So when you gonna let me take you out on a date? It’s been a while. I was thinking we can grab some food and then see a movie. What you think about that, Princess?” Erik’s voice broke you out of your thoughts. You put on a shy smile and looking away. You’ve been fucking with Erik for too long, you could throw him a bone.
“Fine. Tonight, I’ll go out to eat with you and see a movie.” You answered and Erik grinned in response. “But let’s make a group thing. I wanna invite Ray and Riah.”
Erik’s eyes widened looking at your friends who were arguing once again outside the gate and back to you.
“Seriously? We gotta take Kenan and Kel along?” Erik groaned. “I wanted some alone time with you but if you really wanna bring your friends, then they can come.”
You grabbed his face staring into his dark brown eyes and leaned in slowly. Erik pursed his lips ready and you went around and pecked his cheek. He opened his eyes sucking his teeth hard and glaring at you. You laughed at his expression and turned to your friends.
“Guys, we hitting up Smokey Bones and the movies tonight!”
Neriah cheered and Rayvon did too, saltiness forgotten. You turned back to Erik who had an annoyed expression on his face. You knew it was because of the kiss.
“I still can’t get a real kiss?”
“That was a real kiss, Stevens.” You reached up to pinch his cheeks and he shook his face away. You snickered at his reaction and went back into your house. Erik went back to his BMW driving straight until he made it to his destination in the next city over. An abandoned warehouse he was quite familiar with. Surveying his surroundings, he stepped out of the car and knocked on the charred wooden door.
“Yo, open up! It’s me!” He shouted from the outside.
“What’s the password?” A gruff voice replied from the inside.
“Nigga, we not doing all that! Open the fucking door!”
The voice grumbled and the owner of the voice opened the door, letting Erik slip through. Erik eyed him, irritated.
“I told you to cut that dumb shit out, Von.”
Von shut the door loudly and began doing the locks. “Nigga, I’m taking extra security measures just in case we get caught up. My fault for being careful.”
Erik ignored him and continued through the dim warehouse. He found his partner Ulysses Klaue engaged in discussion with the woman from earlier. Klaue’s eyes landed on Erik and pulled into a hug, patting his back.
“There’s my breadwinning boy, Killmonger.”
Erik waved him off. “I ain’t here for all that chit chat. You got my cut, Klaue? I need that shit now.”
The woman spoke up with a sneer on her face. “Why you need it now? You got a hot date or something?”
“Soraya, mind your fucking business.”
Erik was completely annoyed with her. Ever since Soraya found out about you, every time Erik was not with her, she assumed he was with you. It was pissing him off because she was never concerned about the women he courted before so he couldn’t understand why she was acting up now.
She put her hands up in defense. “Don’t attack me! Did your ex bitch that you’re chasing piss you off?”
Erik clenched his fists and his large nostrils flared at her words. “Yo, I don’t hit women but keep disrespecting her and you’ll be an exception to that rule, my nigga.”
Soraya stood up, squaring up. “Do it!
Klaue laughed coming in between them. “Relax, you two. Damn, I’m never working with family members again.”
“I don’t know why you hired my stupid ass cousin anyway.” Erik glared in her direction and back at Klaue, outstretching his hand. “Aight give me my money.”
When Klaue handed him the stack of money, he counted it and stuffed it in his pocket, satisfied with the amount. Erik walked out when Soraya ran after him.
“Erik, don’t forget we got a hit late tonight. Unless your date interferes with that.”
“I ain’t fucking forget about our hit and get out of my business, So. Deadass. I’m the boss.”
“You might be the boss but you still dumb as hell and I still gotta look out for you like I did when we were younger. I hope you know what you’re doing. Be careful.”
Erik sucked his teeth, getting in his driver’s seat and rolled down the window when the car was started.
“When am I not?”
***********************
“This is ghetto as hell.” You commented as you, Erik, Rayvon, and Neriah walked into Popeyes on a mission. The mission was to sneak Popeyes in the movie theater. Smokey Bones was packed so Popeyes was the back up plan.
“I’m too ghetto for you, Princess?” Erik flashed his gold canines at you teasingly and you pushed him away.
“Y/N, shut up! You acting like we’ve never done this before! Remember senior skip day?” Neriah giggled at the memories. “We snuck into 3 movies that day before it got hot.”
Rayvon smiled in nostalgia. “Good times, man.”
“Yeah real good times.” Erik added as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders and you glared at him playfully. He sucked his teeth. “You need to stop acting like you don’t want a nigga.”
Your group got to the front of the line and conveniently, you all ordered combos. You and Erik had the same 2 piece spicy meal, surprise surprise, Rayvon ordered a 4 piece meal because he was a skinny fat fuck, and Neriah ordered the fried shrimp meal.
“Y’all, I’m not surprised Neriah ordered shrimp. She’s been adding seafood to her vegan diet.” Rayvon joked causing you and Erik to laugh a little. Neriah lifted her hand to smack but you put it down, not trying to cause a scene in Popeyes.
When it was time to pay, Erik stepped up to pay, ignoring your protests. He took out a stack of 10’s,20’s, and 50’s and your friends were shocked. So were you. You guys decided not to say anything. He probably was just one of those niggas that carried a bunch of cash to impress women but you were not impressed. Once you guys got your food and drove to the movie theatre, your friends walked in front as you and Erik stalked behind.
“Erik?” He glanced at you curiously. “Why the fuck do you carry all that cash? That’s not smart. What if you get robbed?”
He threw his head back in laughter like what you said was absurd. “Babygirl, Who gonna be dumb enough to rob me?”
You rolled your eyes. “Erik, I don’t know what bitches you trying to impress with all that cash, but I’m not one of them. Put that shit in the bank.”
Erik didn’t say anything and you two caught up with your friends. You guys bought tickets all together and once again, Erik paid. You and your friends noticed he grabbed a stack of money from a different pocket.
“Yo, Erik is rich. This nigga must be selling dick or something.” Neriah whispered to you.
“He could be dealing drugs.” Rayvon indicated making Neriah hit him. “What? You said my nigga was selling dick! I’m pretty sure drug dealers get less time!”
“The fuck y’all niggas talking about?” Erik snapped, turning to face the three of you.
“We talking about how you got all that cash. You either selling dick or dealing drugs!” Neriah looked him up and down. “Nah I can tell he hasn’t got pussy in a longgggg time. It’s drugs, y’all.”
You were beyond annoyed at this point and walked ahead with your bag full of the combos. You handed your ticket and they gave you back your stub. You continued towards the theater without them. Erik had some nerve if he was going to come back when he was partaking in those “activities.” You’d be damned if you were caught up with a nigga like that. Once you got into the dark alleyway, you felt someone grab your wrist and you were ready to fight until you heard his voice.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Erik, why do you have all that cash? What do you do for work?” You questioned and quieted down when other movie goers walked past you two. “Neriah’s right. You’re probably dealing drugs.”
He hit his forehead. “No!”
You raised an eyebrow. “Selling dick!”
“No! Y/N-“
“Selling drugs?” You asked again.
Erik pulled you to the side to get out of the other patrons’ ways. “Listen, I got a couple of jobs but it’s not drugs and it’s not selling dick. I just don’t really trust banks like that so I mostly carry cash. It does make me look rich and shit.” He chuckled a little but stopped when you didn’t joined. “Look, this is money I’ve been saving up and finally spending it. You think I’m stupid enough to do shit like that and come back to you? Come on, girl. You know me better than that.”
He had a point. Erik was always talking about how he didn’t trust banks and anything involving the government back in high school. He was always so woke to the point that it annoyed you.
You sighed deeply. “Alright. But you better start trusting banks, nigga. That’s not safe.”
“I will. Now can we go inside and enjoy this movie?”
You furrowed your eyebrows, searching for your friends. “Where’s Ren and Stimpy?”
Erik chuckled grabbing your hand. “They took the hint that you were pissed and went into another movie. I don’t mind though. I get some alone time with you.”
“Whatever. But quick question.”
“Shoot.”
“You said you’re not selling dick....you selling ass?”
Erik dragged you into the theater, shaking his head and mumbling in irritation.
“I’m just making sure!”
After the movie, Erik dropped your friends off first for obvious reasons and purposely took the long way back to your house. When you weren’t talking, the two of you sang and rapped along to songs on the way home.
“Yo have you seen my Carmex?” You patted yourself down when Erik parked.
“Nah. You can check around the car if you want.” He answered looking under his feet by the gas pedal and the brake.
You popped open the glove department and surprise, surprise, there was a roll of money in there. You scoffed grabbing the roll of bills and holding it up.
“Really? Erik, be real with me. How are you getting all this money?”
Erik snatched the roll from your hand. “I told you. I got a couple of jobs. Don’t worry about it.”
“That’s a lot of money in cash.” Your head hit the headrest of the passenger seat. “Erik, I swear to God, if you’re dealing drugs or-“
He slapped the steering wheel in anger which made you flinch. “For the last damn time, Y/N, I’m not dealing drugs! Why you thinking that low of me? And if I was, why do you care?”
“Because I lost you once, Erik! I’m not trying to lose you again!”
Erik stared at you in bewilderment saying nothing. You sighed and continued talking.
“I know I’ve been acting a little indifferent when it comes to us but I’m happy as fuck you’re back in my life. So if you’re doing any illegal, dangerous bullshit that’s going to take you away from me again, probably for good, just leave me alone now. I’m deadass! Break my heart now rather than later on when I’m in too deep. Because I’m afraid I’m close to that.”
Erik cupped your face with his strong hands forcing you to make eye contact with him.
“I’m ok, Y/N. When I said I’m back for good, I meant it. I don’t know how many times I gotta tell you that. The only way I’m gonna be out is if you tell me you want nothing to do with me anymore. If you want me, stop pushing me away. I’m yours.” Erik stated sincerely then chuckled. “And I was beginning to thinking you didn’t care about a nigga anymore but hearing you say that cancels my doubt.”
He leaned in to peck your cheek and unlocked the doors. “Now go inside, Princess. You got work in the morning.”
You began to open your door then closed it turning to him. You grabbed his face and Erik was confused at your actions.
“What you doing, Princess?”
“Making sure all your doubt is cancelled.” You leaned in and kissing him passionately. He kissed you back, caressing your face as you two made out. After a few seconds, you pulled away from him, beaming.
“Good night, Erik.” You winked exiting the car. Erik rolled down the window grinning.
“Princess! I still got some doubt tho!”
“Nigga, I said good night!” You shouted over your shoulder. “Make sure you text me when you get home, Stevens!”
“You got it, baby girl.”
He waited until you got inside and locked the door behind you before driving off. You watched through the window and noticed that black Volvo from earlier today parked in a different spot and rolled your eyes.
“The neighbors really want everyone to know they got a damn Volvo.” You scoffed walking away from the window.
Meanwhile, Erik pulled up to his apartment which was literally down the street from your house. It was within walking distance, on purpose. He changed into an all black attire and went to the location Soraya had texted him. When he made it there, he found the rest of his team decked out in black. Erik gave all of them a nod and pointed into the direction of the mansion they pulled up. The team snuck inside and got to work. The older white woman that owned the mansion was awakened and crept out of her bedroom. She turned to see Erik who donned a tribal mask on his face and was pointing a .9 millimeter in her face. The woman held his hands up in fear and began to sob.
“Please don’t shoot. Take whatever you want. Just please don’t kill me.”
Erik smirked behind his mask. “My team and I are here to take what doesn’t belong to you. Try anything and you will see why.”
Through her paralyzing fear, the woman was confused and gulped loudly. “M-may I ask why what?”
Erik cocked his gun, placing it underneath the woman’s chin and chuckled darkly.
“You’ll see why they call me Killmonger.”
I was wondering what your process of choosing to self publish was?
I’m not really sure what you mean by “my process of choosing to self publish”…. If you’re asking why I went the indie publishing route rather than the traditional route, the answer is three-fold.
First, I submitted my manuscript to several publishing agents within my own country, and a few abroad. I heard back from two of them, both based in London, both offering me a contributory contract. What that means is, they print my book, they market my book, but I have to fork out an inordinate amount of money for the privilege. Both companies I heard back from wanted me to pay, upfront, in a lump sum of 5000 pounds each before they would “take the risk” of investing in a novel that “sounds very enticing, but has no guarantee of selling.”
Which leads to my second point. The publishing market is flooded with authors all trying to push their work in front of a publisher and in front of a reader. The competition alone is tough. What’s worse is that in the past publishing houses have too often bet on the wrong horse, so to speak. They receive millions of stories every year, and go through them, select novels they think they can effectively market, and more than about half of those they bet on, flop. You walk into your local ‘popular’ or big-chain bookstore and you’ll see what I mean. There are books on those shelves that no one is reading, no one is buying, no one is interested it. Meaning the publishing company loses money. As a result, after years and years of this, most publishers refuse to accept manuscripts from new, or even established authors unless they can prove their book will sell. Why invest money just to lose again when there are tools allowing authors to prove their worth within the market?  Every publishing house I submitted my work to (excluding those that wanted me to pay for it) had listed in their fine print that unless you had a book agent, you wouldn’t even be considered. Book agents are expensive. Half the time, I struggle to pay the bills to keep the bloody lights on. Most authors do. Hell, most people do.
Which leads into my third point. IF by some miracle, you come into some money to pay an agent to shove your work at a publisher, you get contracted. And when you get contracted you have to sign a very long document that strips the author of all creative rights to their work. Meaning that you get no say in cover design. No say in bits of content that are ripped out. No say in how it’s marketed, who it’s marketed to, what price they put on it. Nothing. You get a settlement cheque from the company because they purchase your manuscript - and unless you’re a big name like Rowling, you get a pittance. Typically you might be given between 5-15k dollars for the manuscript and you get a royalty on sales. A very small royalty. Usually between 20-40% depending on how well the book does, the company you sign with, and what genre it is.
Now, for a book like mine…. They’re a dime a dozen. A werewolf romance novel? One of the most easily accessible things on the market if you know where to look. Unfortunately, the places to look are not the big chain bookstores. They don’t stock a whole lot of smutty werewolf romance on their shelves (because gods forbid the average reader have access to interesting and diverse reading options). You might find a few werewolf novels amongst the Young Adult section if you rip out all the smut; and if you include adventure and war and other rubbish, you might land on the Sci-Fi/Fantasy shelves, but it’s unlikely. There’s an enormous market for it. I’ve spent years collecting novels like the ones I enjoy writing. In fact, I started writing them because initially, I searched the big book stores, couldn’t find anything like it, and wanted to read it, so I wrote it my dang self.
But the publishers and the bookstores don’t want to take a chance on the genre as a whole, from what I can see. Everyone jumped on Vampires following the success of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Sookie Stackhouse books, and even the Twilight Saga, and if you look hard, you might still find a few of those types dotting the shelves, but again, not that many. I don’t know what the book companies do with all the books they do take a chance on that don’t sell. Maybe they have a monthly bonfire or something and lament the dollars wasted before demanding another, better book from their contracted authors, but I sure as hell haven’t been buying them. Excluding buying gifts for my partner from the Sci-Fi section to the tune of Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss, I haven’t actually purchased a book from a book store in a long while because when they hit on an idea, they flood the market with crappy b-grade choices that mimic the initial spark. I mean, you look at the shelves for teen fiction. Sarah J Maas is killing it with her fairie novels, but now the market is full of fairy writers and none of them hold a candle to the Maas novels. And if you’re unfortunate enough to pick the b-grade choice first, you turn your nose up at the rest and nothing gets bought.
Maybe the same happened with werewolves. Who knows? I don’t remember it. I remember a few in the teen section when I was scouring it every other day, and I picked up a couple that were addictive and delicious. But for the adult section? Nope. You get the “Woman goes on holiday, has fling, yaaay” and the “This terrible thing befell a career woman. Now she’s pregnant” and all that other rubbish. I know Anne Rice tried her hand at werewolf fiction after her success with the vamps, and it flopped hard. I was gifted a copy when I turned 18 and I still haven’t read the whole thing. *shrugs* Unfortunately, the publishing houses know her for her novels, and they think that if she can’t do it, no one else will succeed, either. It’s painful.
In any case, I chose to Indie publish my novel because I can’t afford to fork out thousands of dollars for a literary agent, or a contributory contract. And because through Amazon, I retain creative freedom. I designed the cover, I polished the book and decided what got ripped out, what was re-written, and what was kept. I get to set the price on the book, and I can unpublish it, release a new edition with a different cover, I can do anything. When you Indie publish, you’re in control. Complete control. It does mean having to push your own wagon, and that’s some damn hard work trying to break into the market, garner a reader following, get some hype going about it, and keep people interested in it. When the big companies are producing Book Trailers for their novels, it’s pretty damn hard to hold up an Indie novel and lure readers to give it a go. But I’m trying my hand at it. If it garners enough attention, a company might contact me. I know my fellow author, Gerilyn Marin, had that happen with her first novel. She indie published it, and when it did well, a publishing company contacted her.
That being said, many authors who have contracts with publishing houses have been pulling out of them to go it alone. It’s more cost effective. You can publish on Amazon.com for free. All you need is a cover, a manuscript, and a KDP account. You can set your royalties to 35% or 70% and keep a larger portion of your profits depending on what your target market is, and what kind of pricing you want to put on your works. You’re in charge.
So I guess my process was one of elimination. If at first you don’t succeed, try; try again, and all that. Maybe I’ll hit it big. Maybe I won’t. I’ll keep writing. I’ve got plenty more Original Fiction works up my sleeve. If this first series I’m releasing doesn’t shoot me to the moon, maybe the next one will. *shrugs* right now, I’m just happy that some people are giving it a go. It’s nice, after so long writing and sharing fanfiction, to be making some money off the time and effort put in to perfecting my writing.
Night gone wasted
“So you can see the future?” Eric asks, seeing all the pieces fall into place. “That’s how you knew where I was. And how you knew that they were going to wait outside to kill us.” “It was weird.” You admit. It feels nice finally being able to really talk to somebody about your power without having them freak out. “First when I was asleep I got a vision like I normally get them, weird and cryptic. But the other two were like I never experienced them before.” “What do you mean?” Eric asks gently. “When I wanted to find out where you were it was like I was shown a path and the last vision I lived it. I didn’t even know it was a vision until I was back in your arms. I died, Eric. You died too and I woke up in your arms in the house that was on fire.” You explain rambling confused. “Let’s make a deal, Y/N.” Eric says. “You help me with my problem and I help you with yours.” Eric knows money isn’t what you’re interested in. It’s something more special than that. And right now, he was able to grasp it completely. You want knowledge. There isn’t anything that you want more than to know what the hell is going on with you. You hold out your hand and Eric takes it to shake. “Deal.” You say determined.
“Now let’s get you somewhere warmer.” Eric wants to wrap his arm around you, but at the last second he realizes that you probably wouldn’t want him to do that and his arms falls beside his body. “Aren’t you, like, starving?” You ask Eric curious, but a bit uncomfortable. He hasn’t fed, at least not that you know of, and you reckon that the whole sun burn thing must have taking a lot out of him. Eric chuckles. “Yes, I am.” The lack of other words makes you wonder things. Is he able to control his hunger? Will he attack me? Eric, feeling your uncomfortableness, tries to make your mind at ease. “Don’t worry, doll, I won’t drink from you.” This relaxes your body. “Unless you want me to.” He adds. “No!” You exclaim, indignantly you look up in his with smile plastered face. He was just kidding, sort of. Luckily his car isn’t torched and you drive away, leaving the smoldering parts behind you. “Do you want to eat at Merlotte’s?” Eric asks you. “No, I don’t want the chance to run into anyone.” You say. “I can take you to Fangtasia, but there isn’t much food there.” He tells you, but you don’t really care all that much about food right now. You’re still a little bit overwhelmed by everything that happened. “So, what is the mission?” You ask him in an attempt to kill the silence. “Someone is after higher level vampires.” Eric says. “And I need your help to stop them.” “Higher level vampires?” “Yes, we have kings and queens. They all have their own section. And they all have multiple sheriffs to keep an eye on their section. I am the sheriff of area five. They have already killed the queen of Louisiana.” Eric explains. “It won’t take long until they are coming after me.” “Do you know who they are?” You ask. “Not the fellowship of the sun, they are mostly not this organized. Not this violent.” Eric answers. “They are another organization, bend on killing all vampires.” “How do you know that they weren’t the ones trying to kill you at your house and not the fellowship of the sun?” This gives Eric something to think about. He drives onto the parking lot of Fangtasia. “You are right.” He says. “Maybe they are already trying to kill me.” You study his face as he stares out of the car. Your history with Cam helps you imagine what it would feel like to be hunted to kill. Desperately you search for something comforting to say, but you’re left speechless. “Eric!” There is a knock on the car window. Eric doesn’t react immediately and the doors is opened. A familiar blonde head pops into the car. “Where have you been?” “Pam.” Eric says in a form of a greeting. “What is she doing here?” She asks Eric, while looking at you disdainfully. “There has been an attack and Y/N saved my life.” This sounds more like a threat towards Pam than just casual information. Not that there is anything casual about this information. “What happened?” Pam asks concerned. Already their relationship confuses you. Eric seems like her boss, but she really seems to care about him. More than just a coworker. In a short summary Eric tells Pam about the attack, and to your relief he keeps out the part about your visions.
After arriving at Fangtasia Eric stashed you into his office, because he needed to feed. Not that you wanted to be near those fang bangers anyway. Sitting down on his big leather couch you realize that you’ve never felt more energized than right now and you wonder if that is because of the vampire blood Eric gave you. There is no way you are just going to sit around and letting this night go wasted. You grab a pen and paper from Eric’s desk and sit down on the floor. You write down what you already know. Everything that Eric told you, which is not much. So what you do is you start from the very beginning. The fact that it is an organization that you’re up against. Thinking you bite your lip. Abruptly you jump up and sit down at Eric’s desk and grab the phone. It’s time to make some phone calls.
“What are you doing?” Eric walks into his office, seeing you sunken back in his chair with your feet popped up on his desk. You hold up your hand at him telling him to be quiet. You’re still on the phone and don’t want to miss anything the person on the other end has been saying. “No, yeah, you can reach me on this number.” You say before you hang up. Eric has closed the door behind him and just stands in front of his own desk. “Oh, sorry.” You quickly get your feet off the desk and sit up straight. “What have you been doing?” Eric asks. “Working.” You tell him nonchalantly. “Here.” You hand him the stack of papers you’ve accumulated over the hours that he has been out and about. “What’s this?” He asks looking at you in confusion. “You will know it when you start reading.” You say. After all these hours of work you don’t even feel the slightest bit of tired. Eric starts reading and sits down on the couch. “How did you get all of this?” “I know some people who still owe me, so I guess those depths are paid.” You say watching him read. “They are called the fellowship of the blinding sun.” You tell Eric. “They have been growing fast as an underground operational group. The police don’t have anything to hold them for, so I guess it’s up to us.” “This is very good.” Eric stands up and walks over to the desk. He lets the stack of papers fall down on the desk and he leans on it. “The sun is rising, you can stay here.” “You sure they won’t come burn this place down too?” You ask him only slightly concerned. “I don’t.” He says before walking out of the office. “Hey, Eric!” You call and he comes back. “What’s with this Pam chick?” Eric smiles. “She can make quite an impression huh?” He asks. “Yeah, she does.” You admit. “Why is it that she is so.. aggressive?” “She isn’t the only one, she just doesn’t hide it.” Eric admits. “We can be assholes.” “That doesn’t surprise me all that much, I must say.” You tell Eric. “Goodnight, Eric.” It’s only later that you realize that is becoming day instead of growing darker, but Eric is already gone. You lie down on the couch, but can’t fall asleep.
Welcome to A Cup-pella, Ty! We’re excited to have you and Alisha Owens in the game! Please go through the checklist to make sure you’re ready to go and send in your account within the next 24 hours.
OOC INFO
Name + pronouns: Ty Age: 27 Timezone: EST Ships: Alisha/Chemistry Anti-Ships: Alisha/Forced
IC INFO
Full Name: Alisha Michelle Owens Face Claim: Candice Patton Age/Birthday: 30 / December 4, 1987 Occupation: Accountant Personality: fearless, serious, nurturing, sensitive, and forceful Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia Bio:
Alisha Michelle Owens, the only daughter of Christine and Nate Owens, was born into a rather hard life. Her parents were only teenagers when they had her, and hadn’t been together very long. Their parents demanded that they ‘do the right thing’ and get married, so the couple spent the first few years of Alisha’s life still getting to know each other better, while also trying to navigate marriage and parenthood at a young age. Obviously, it wasn’t smooth sailing, but the one thing the duo could always agree on was how much they loved their daughter. It was that love that made their marriage work, for the most part anyways. With Nate having to work two full time jobs just to pay the bills and put food on the table, Christine had to be a stay at home mom. They’d both had dreams of doing better for themselves, but with a young child to raise, it just wasn’t much of a possibility anymore. Nate hardly ever had time to be around for all the memorable moments of Alisha’s life, but the older she got, the more she understood why her father was always working. It was then that she set out to do what her parents didn’t get to do and make something of herself so that she could repay them for everything they did for her.
Dedicated to making her parents proud, Alisha focused hard on doing great at school, only bringing home grades the older Owens could brag about. She was a respectful, friendly, hard-working student. All her teachers adored her, and she could become friends with anyone she came across. Just watching Alisha grow over the years reassured Nate that the sacrifices he made for her were worth it. And the older she got, the more she wanted to help so that her father didn’t have to work so hard. With one of her friends’ parents owning a grocery store, Alisha started working for them after school, getting paid under the table just for helping them stock and clean up around the store for a few shifts every week. The money wasn’t much, and Nate wasn’t fond of his fourteen-year-old feeling like she had to help provide for their family so that he could get a break, but after a few months he was able to quit his second job, giving him more time to spend with his wife and daughter. Life only got better from there. She grew closer to the man, watched her parents truly fall head over heels in love with one another, and learned the true value of a dollar. The Owens might not have had much, but they were finally on the path to something better.
With neither one of her parents ever enrolling in college, they were determined to make sure that their only daughter took advantage of all of life’s opportunities. From an early age, they encouraged her to always try her hardest and do her best in school, and it truly stuck over the years. She was determined to give them all a better life, so she became notorious for working her ass off. Even when she had straight As, she’d be asking her teachers for extra credit, just to try to raise her GPA a little bite more. After all, she knew that there was no way her parents would be able to afford to send her to college out of pocket, so she would need to obtain as many scholarships as possible. By the time senior year rolled around, she was at the top of her class, and had multiple offers from a handful of colleges. However, it was Augusta University that won her over. She’d get to be closer to home, which her parents loved, she’d received more than enough in scholarships and grants to cover the tuition, and she even had a couple of friends from high school going there as well, so she was excited to say the least.
Alisha hadn’t been into the party scene in high school, yet as soon as she got to college, she wasted no time diving right into it. She’d spent so much time working and studying that she hadn’t known what it was like to let loose, or how much of a stress reliever alcohol could be. Joining a sorority was a little out of character for her, but she wanted the full college experience, so she gave it a shot. Definitely one of the best decisions she’d ever made! Living in a sorority house gave her plenty of excuses to party, yet she’d go camp out in the library whenever she needed to study for any finals. She managed to balance her social life and her studies rather well, yet her dating life? Nonexistent, at least the first four years of college. It was through her new partying lifestyle that Alisha discovered, and explored, her attraction to women. She had her fair share of random make out sessions at parties, but she hadn’t quite met anyone worth committing to. Things wouldn’t stay that way for long.
Content with her education being her first priority, it wasn’t until she’d accidentally bumped into underclassmen Charlie Wolfe that things changed. The blonde may have been a little younger than her, but Alisha was attracted to her instantly. A few dates with Charlie turned into her finally being ready to settle down with someone, and she couldn’t have been happier. With her streak of succeeding in her courses still underway, balancing a girlfriend didn’t seem hard at all. The only issue was that as time went on, they both seemed to be getting busier and busier within their programs, and it felt like they barely had time to spend together anymore. When she heard that Charlie and Sookie were moving out of the apartment they shared together, she suggested that her and Charlie move in together. It would give them more time to spend together, and since things had been going so well between them, it just felt right.
Obtaining her Master’s degree before Charlie finished her own studies, Alisha found an internship right there in Augustus so that she could continue living with her girlfriend. Things had been good between them for a little while — so good that after a brief discussion with Charlie about what their future together could look like, Alisha went out a purchased an engagement ring. She’d had it all planned out in her head: she’d take Charlie out to dinner to the same place they’d had their very first date, give some sappy speech about how her life had only gotten better since she’d met her, and then be totally cliché and get down on one knee. She couldn’t wait to have her girlfriend swooning by the end of that night, so everything that happened next was pure hell. With the ring hidden away at a parent’s house, Alisha had been waiting for the perfect night to propose. The only problem was that with a full-time job and Charlie being so busy with medical school, it was almost impossible to set aside a few hours that they both had free at the same time. It also didn’t help that even when Charlie found some free time, she was talking to Sookie. The nonstop video calls wouldn’t have been such a pain in the ass if her girlfriend wasn’t spending more time talking to her ‘best friend’ than her, or if she could even get some alone time with Charlie without the other blonde being mentioned. After a few months, her anger turned to jealousy, suddenly feeling like Charlie had actual feelings for Sookie. What other explanation was there for the woman she loved to be completely sidelining her for someone else? Alisha had best friends too, yet she never put them before Charlie, so she didn’t understand why the other woman couldn’t do the same for her. Once she hit her breaking point, that was it. Alisha packed her belongings and moved out. It felt like she’d wasted four years of her life on someone who had never been as fully committed as she was, and she was devastated. But her parents told her that she had to move forward, pick herself up and just focus on her career, so that’s what she did.
When her internship was up, the firm had offered her a job as a forensic accountant, and she surpassed all their expectations within her first two years. Her performance allowed her to attend countless conferences and seminars on behalf of the firm, and it was during one of the New York conferences that she found herself being offered a position at one of the best, higher paying accounting firms. It was an opportunity she couldn’t quite pass up, but New York was a long way away from her parents. However, she’d already helped move them into a much nicer house than the one she’d grown up in, and they were insisting that she stop worrying about them and do something for herself for a change, so that was how she found herself moving to New York. As much as she loves her job, she thinks she’d ready to get back out there and try dating again. Nothing too serious yet but playing the field after long days at work sounded like a nice way to enjoy the last of her 20s. She’s not sure if she’ll ever get to a place where she can give someone else her all the way she had with Charlie, but she’s open to it. And speaking of her ex, she’s heard that both blondes she now holds a grudge against are residing in New York as well, but Alisha’s been doing her best to try and keep her distance from them.
Pets: None yet
Charlie Wolfe: Alisha doesn’t hate her, but Charlie’s her least favorite person on the planet. Ideally, she would love to be able to forgive and forget, or at least move on to the point that she can be civil with Charlie, but she hasn’t gotten there yet. Deep down, she’s not entirely over the blonde, but the two not communicating has been gradually making it a little easier to let go.
Sookie Montgomery: When she initially met Sookie, Alisha thought she was sweet and someone she could have possibly gotten along extremely well with. But as far as Alisha’s concerned, Sookie is just as much to blame for the relationship with Charlie falling apart. She’s never been able to understand what it was about her that made her ex fall for her, or how she didn’t see the signs sooner, but it made Sookie a target for her anger as well. Although they haven’t seen or spoken in years, she’d be a little quicker to forgive Sookie than Charlie, but only if there were some sort of apology or explanation from the woman’s part in her relationship ending. Until then, Alisha is content keeping her distance.
Impossible - 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eric Northman x Reader
Warnings: Will be listed on a per chapter basis. This one’s good.
A/N: Reader’s presence in the world causes some significant changes. Will not be a straight retelling. And canon is dead to me both for plot and some of the rules of the world. Be prepared. I couldn’t wait so you get this one early. Chap 2 will post monday and then weekly thereafter.
Enjoy!
***
“Are you sure you don’t mind comin’ with me tonight, Y/N?” Sookie Stackhouse asked as she ran her hands down her dress, making sure it was laying right.
You glanced over and gave her a soft smile. “I wouldn’t have offered if I minded, Sook.” You’d overheard her having an argument with Sam about heading to the vampire bar in Shreveport and you immediately offered to go with her. You had a rather extensive history with vampires and knew all the ins and outs. Not that Sookie would listen to you or she would have worn something else. Still, you were reluctant to send your friend to Fangtasia with only a vampire for backup. “When’s Bill supposed to get here?”
You’d no sooner asked the question than there was a knock at the door. Sookie opened it with a smile. Bill returned the gesture until you stepped up behind her and his gaze fell on you. “Y/N. I wasn’t aware you would be accompanying us.”
“Surprise,” you said with a smile you didn’t mean at all. You and Bill tolerated each other but it was clear you didn’t care for one another. You didn’t trust him and he knew it.
He moved his gaze back to Sookie. “You look lovely.”
“Thank you.” She gave a little curtsey and beamed at the compliment. He offered her his arm to lead her to the car and you trailed behind. You pursed your lips as you ran your eyes over the both of them. Bill seemed to thrive on your friend’s innocence. With him it wasn’t about Sookie being dressed in a manner that would help her blend in at the bar. No, it was about him being able to walk in and show off the pure, sweet girl on his arm. As if he would win some sort of prize by being deserving of her. Or at least having others think he was.
You slid into the back seat and kept your opinions to yourself. Nothing was going to happen to Sookie. Not as long as you were around. You were nearly to Shreveport before Bill spoke up. “Now, Sookie, you will be fine this evening as I am accompanying you. Just follow my lead.” His gaze darted to the review mirror to make contact with you. “Y/N, it is imperative that you do nothing to draw attention to yourself. Do not make eye contact. Do not appear too interested in anything that may be happening around you. Vampires value their privacy. I will not be able to claim both you and Sookie.”
“I believe I’ve mentioned before that I know vampires, Compton. It’s why I offered to come with Sookie tonight. I don’t need a lecture on vamp etiquette.”
Your friend glanced over her shoulder with a frown. “He’s just trying to help, Y/N. He wants to make sure you’re all right is all.”
You answered with an arched brow and a hum, biting back the other things you wanted to say. You’d try to tolerate him for Sookie’s sake.
***
As you approached the front of the bar, Bill wrapped an arm around Sookie’s waist to steer her inside. You trailed behind once more, hands in your pockets as you took in the chaos around you. Wow. This place was goth central. The vampires were really playing up the whole creature of the night persona. Of course, that’s how places like this made money. They sold the fiction of vampire life. Showed people the parts they expected to see.
“Bill,” a voice greeted. “Haven’t seen you in a while.”
“I’m mainstreaming.”
“Good for you. Who’s the doll?” By this point you were grinning. You knew that voice. And you also knew she was just giving Bill a hard time by feigning interest in Sookie. Or perhaps she actually was interested in your friend, but she was wasting her time there.
“Pam this is Sookie. Sookie this is Pam.”
“Pleased to meet you,” came your friend’s bubbly response and you bit back a laugh.
“Can I see your ID?” Pam asked.
Sookie was stunned for a moment before she began babbling. You cut her off with a hand on her shoulder. “She’s good,” you announced.
Pam arched a brow and shifted her gaze to you while Bill growled your name. The irritation slid from her face to be replaced by a smirk. “Y/N Y/L/N. What brings you to these parts?”
You shrugged and glanced at your two companions. You didn’t really care to discuss your past in front of either of them. Fortunately, Pam was smart and simply gave you a nod. She turned a smile on Sookie. “You should have said you were with Y/N. Come on in.”
The three of you stepped past her and her hand slid along your arm as she leaned into you. “You and I should talk.” You looked at her. The tone of her voice said more needed to be discussed than your change in locale.
“Sure.”
You followed her through a door, the music becoming infinitely more tolerable when it shut behind you. “How do you listen to that shit all the time?”
“I simply think of the money the sheep bring in.” She smiled as she leaned against a desk. “What are you doing here?”
You could understand her wariness. The two of you hadn’t met under the best of circumstances. “I retired. Sophie was always one of the better options so I came here.” Sophie-Anne ruled Louisiana. Well, the vampires in it at any rate. “I wasn’t aware you were living so close to me or I would have been in sooner.”
Pam tilted her head in agreement then crossed her arms over her chest. “And the girl? Why is she here? Bill’s not the type to flaunt what he is simply to impress.”
You pursed your lips. “She’s a friend. Sweet but a little naïve. Thinks someone here will tell her something about a couple of women that have been killed. They both had bite marks. I would have asked around myself, but they were strangled not drained. Besides, every vamp I know is better about cleaning up after themselves. But that’s not what you wanted to talk to me about.”
There was that smirk again. “Eric is here.”
“Your sire? That Eric?”
She rolled her eyes. “What other Eric would I possibly be referring to?”
You slumped against the wall behind you. “Well, shit.” The first time you met Eric Northman, the two of you had been instantly insanely attracted to one another. You had been on a job for the Authority at the time. Once Eric discovered that, no amount of arguing or pleading from you would convince him that your relationship with him had nothing to do with it. It was one of the many reasons you had finally quit. It was hard to maintain friendships if they were always afraid you were spying on them.
A member of the Authority had taken you in off the streets as a child when it was discovered you couldn’t be glamoured. When you proved to be faster and stronger than your human counterparts all the better. Add enhanced hearing and vision to that and you were just about the perfect spy. No vampire would suspect a human was gathering information for the Authority. And on the off chance you were caught, you were more apt to be able to get yourself out of trouble.
You had always been paid well for your efforts. The man you called father insisted on it. But you yearned for relationships outside of the scope of the Authority. Losing Eric had nearly broken you. So, you quit. Your father had been less than pleased with the decision. Hence, the relocation. The two of you were in the process of making up but you had no intention of running home to daddy as the case may be.
You cleared your throat and focused on Pam again. “Maybe it would be better if I left.”
“Don’t you dare,” she snapped. “You two have been behaving like children long enough. It’s past time for you to put this behind you.”
“Me? He’s the one that flipped his shit, remember? He refused to listen to anything I had to say.”
Pam shrugged. “Yes. And you left. You could have tried harder.”
You sighed and ran a hand down your face. Damn vampire logic. “Does he even want to talk to me?”
“Who cares? Make him listen. I’m tired of him moping.” She reached past you to open the door and you placed a hand on her arm to stop her.
“I haven’t seen him in three years, Pam, but I do remember that Eric Northman is not the moping type. You can’t expect me to believe that he even cares enough to think of me, let alone be affected by my absence.” You’d love to believe that. You really would. Eric was it for you. He was your first everything. Your only, if you were honest and you’d had every notion of him being the last. You’d kind of hoped that would be from the two of you being together forever as opposed to your heart not being willing to move past him.
“Believe what you want, Y/N, but I know my sire. He may appear to be his usual uncaring self, but I know better. If you leave without speaking to him, I will see to it that he sets his sights on your little blonde friend.” She disappeared through the door without giving you a chance to respond.
***
You found a seat that hid you from the view of Eric’s throne on the stage (which was a bit much if you were honest) but allowed you to keep tabs on both him and Sookie. She’d frowned when you didn’t join her and Bill, but you waved her off. Later, you mouthed and she’d simply nodded. You sipped at your drink and ran your eyes over the Viking where he slouched in his seat. He’d let his hair grow out and you couldn’t decide if you liked it or not.
A man groveled at his feet and you rolled your eyes when Eric kicked the man sending him flying through the air. Eric hated shit like this so you found it odd he was playing the role. He could just as easily order his minions to hold court.
Movement from Sookie’s direction caught your eye. Bill took her hand in his and led her toward the stage and Eric. Shit. You turned back to your Viking and saw Pam standing beside him, a smirk playing on her lips. Apparently, she didn’t like your dallying and had decided to force your hand. Fuck.
You moved along the edge of the room, getting close enough to hear, but not close enough to draw attention to yourself. Not yet.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Sookie told Eric and you bit back a chuckle. She was nothing if not overly polite.
“Well, aren’t you sweet?” Disdain dripped from Eric’s words.
“Not really,” Sookie snapped back and Bill gave her a warning tug.
But you, well you laughed outright at that. There was a reason you and Sookie were friends that went beyond her not being able to hear your thoughts. You liked the sharp tongue she didn’t let everyone see.
“Do you find something amusing, human?” Eric’s voice rode the line between irritated and bored. Though he still hadn’t seen you, he had evidently heard your laughter.
“I usually do when Sookie’s around.” Bill turned to scowl at you. Pam covered her mouth with a hand to hide her smile and Eric moved Bill to the side so he could see you.
His eyes went wide as he sat up in the chair and his mouth gaped slightly. “Impossible,” he breathed.
“Apparently not.” You tilted your head and took the opportunity to look him over again. “Hello, Eric.”
“Bill, why don’t you and your friend take a seat. We need to catch up, you and I.” His eyes never left yours.
“Indeed,” Bill answered.
“Why are you here?” he finally asked you.
“Sookie’s my friend.”
Eric’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t have friends.”
You ignored the spike of hurt that accompanied the words. Pam barked something at him in a language you didn’t understand and he turned to speak with her. After a moment, he turned back to you, looking even more surprised than before.
“Is it true?”
You lifted your brows in question. You had no idea what they’d said to one another.
“Are you no longer under the thumb of the Authority?” He’d dropped his voice so no one beyond you would hear him. Bill’s head jerked to you in surprise and his jaw went tight.
“I don’t work for anyone at the moment. They paid well, but the cost was too high.” You left the fact you were referring to him unspoken. That was a conversation for another time with different company.
He sat silent as he studied you. He seemed uncertain of what to say and you didn’t push him. You were taking the fact he hadn’t already tossed you out of his bar as a win.
“We need to get out of here,” Sookie said suddenly and you all turned to look at her.
“Sookie,” Bill snapped.
“Stuff it, Compton. What is it, Sook?”
“A raid.”
“Tell me you’re not an undercover cop,” Eric ordered your friend.
“I’m not, but the man in the hat is.”
“Regardless, we do nothing illegal here.”
“One thing I have learned in the short time I have known her is Sookie always knows what she’s talking about,” you told him. “We should go.”
Before anything else could be said, police swarmed into the club.
“This way.” Eric wrapped his hand around your wrist and pulled you along with him. He led you to a back door. Bill swept Sookie up in his arms while Eric pulled you more tightly against his side. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Miss Stackhouse. You will return.”
“Y/N!” Sookie called after you.
You shook your head. “I’ll be fine. I’ll call you later.”
She started to protest to Bill but he quickly quieted her. Eric put you in his car and told Pam he would see her later. Moments after Sookie warned of the danger you were all a safe distance from the bar and the raid being conducted. As you glanced over at Eric and took in the set of his jaw, you had a feeling your evening was just getting started.
Thinking of more new Gilmore girls leaves me broken. I love Lorelai and will always miss her but I don't trust Amy Sherman-Palladino. In my opinion, she didn't rewatch enough of season 1-6. (If I think about how she didn't watch s7 at all I can be beyond bitter so I try to let that go and some days I succeed). And since Amy wasn't living with these characters anymore, she seemingly only thought about getting to do her final season without thinking about where these "people" would truly be at this point in time.
I'll watch more GG if they make them but I don't trust Amy to do the characters right. The more times I watch, I don't even like Emily's story. In fact, I can't even rewatch most of Emily's scenes. I can deal with Rory and Lorelai's stories with some mental adjustments. Pretty much removing their season 7 and making it a yearish removed from Rory's college graduation (so a missing 2 years instead of 9/10). But overall now I'm just sad when I rewatch the Original series.
These days I can actually deal with rewatching the revival as a stand alone better than I can enjoy the OS. Everything there just makes me sad. Only Dean got a happy ending. I mean Lorelai and Luke are finally married (16/20 years later) but they still aren't sharing and talking. Rory has no job and is stuck in Stars Hollow pregnant thinking Logan is her Christopher. Logan is fulfilling the Huntsberger dynasty and engaged to a girl that pleases the family. Jess is pining after a girl who has shown no interest in him since high school. Paris is getting divorced with the nanny raising her kids. Lane works at Kim's antiques. We won’t even talk about Sookie. Rewatching the OS I see what actually happens instead of enjoying the characters as they plan and dream for the future.
Even Stars Hollow itself depresses me. There was the musical, pool scene and Taylor wanting to bring A-listers to his town. It all just felt try hard and like everything was less whimsical and special. Which I guess is real life but why did I waste so may years thinking the best of and for these characters? All the money and time I wasted because I was stupid thinking this show was a lot less a tragedy than it turned out being.
