Ody Does Math
“Good morning, teacher.” sang the kids, faces radiating vitality.
Indeed, it was a good morning. You can hear the larks chanting in the forest, oak leaves whispering secrets of the wind, and see the open fields bathing in the blazing sunlight casted by Lord Helios. Every bit of this scenery was calling for your attention.
But now is not the right time for that. Commented Athena, in her mind. Now is the time for their math class, and none of them can escape this fact.
So she simply nodded to their greeting. So far so good. She gave a quick glance around the classroom. Odysseus, her favorite student, seemed rather eager for the class. He’s doing good as always, Athena thought. Eurylochus, on the other hand, seemed quite unsettled. Curious. Is it because of his homework? Athena wondered. And as she set her eyes on the next student, she called:
“What are you doing there, Mr. Polites?”
She could see his panic alright. But soon as Polites reclaimed himself she heard him say: “Sorry, Ms. Athena. I was just trying to pack this bag real quick.”
“What for?”
“Er, Ms. Athena…I don’t suppose this is the right place to say—”
“What for, Mr. Polites?”
He sighed. “It’s for a friend of mine, really. Today’s his birthday.”
As he finished, Athena caught a glimpse of the mild blush on Odysseus’s face. It wasn’t hard to figure out what exactly was happening here, but she merely said:
“Well, in that case, I might as well congratulate this friend of yours with a ‘happy birthday’. Hope he gets to be a valiant warrior, a warrior of the mind. And yes, you may sit down, Mr. Polites.”
As everybody settled on their seats, Athena quickly chalked a line of Greek on the blackboard. It reads: ΣΤΟΙΧΕΙΑ ΓΕΩΜΕΤΡΙΚΑ (Elements of Geometry). As soon as she finished, she said:
“Welcome to today’s math class, everyone. We’ll begin with a discussion on a simple problem in your textbook. Now, please turn to page 43, and evaluate the problem quickly. I’ll ask for your ideas in a few minutes.”
It’s not hard. Thought Odysseus. Just some simple geometry. You draw a perpendicular BC at point B with half the length of AB, and…
“Mr. Eurylochus, if you may?”
Eurylochus’s hesitation was all written on his face. And his silence was loud enough to speak for his cluelessness. I should help him. However, it’s not my turn. Thought Odysseus.
Athena apparently noticed something. “Mr. Odysseus, if you may?”
“Yes ma’am. You need to draw a perpendicular BC…now we have an auxiliary right triangle ABC, right? Draw an arc with center C and radius BC intersecting the hypotenuse at a point D. Then draw an arc with center A and radius AD intersecting AB at a point, say E. Now E should be the golden ratio point.”
“Good job. Now prove it.”
”Prove it?” now it was Odysseus’s turn to hesitate, but he hoped that he didn’t show it. However, Athena was quick to pick up something…else. “Well,” he started, “all I gotta do is…huh, what’s this bag for?”
A look at Polites was sufficient to explain everything.
“Mr. Polites! You seem quite eager to hand the present out, I see. Why don’t you give Mr. Odysseus a hand, by proving this point E to be the golden ratio point as he claims?”
Polites was eager, alright. He stood up swiftly, and said, “May I have a chalk, Ms. Athena?” After a moment Polites finished the proof on the chalkboard, saving the day. Then Athena complimented both Polites and Odysseus, and the class moved on.
But Eurylochus was uncomfortable with the compliment that Odysseus had received. Geometry is his strong point alright, thought Eurylochus, but let’s just wait till we get to arithmetics.
And soon they got to arithmetics. But there were only 10 minutes left for the class. So Athena decided to give a little quiz.
“I have a challenge, a test of skills.” said Athena, “the problem is, are you all ready for it?”
All nods. Ok. “Then let us begin by introducing a geographic fact. This is Troy, 600 miles away from us if you travel by sea. Now suppose that a ship travels at a speed of 5.755 miles per hour without the wind, and it is heading from Troy to Ithaca in full speed, and when it is 2.8 miles away from Ithaca it takes a turn to Temesa, sailing through 290 miles in total, and from there to Aeaea 158 miles away. Suppose the ship sails in a uniform speed, without any wind. How long does it take in total?”
Odysseus could see their expressions clearly. He could see Eurylochus busy doing the calculations, which wasn’t a surprise at all since he was so good at it. I could use a good right-hand man like him. Odysseus thought. And let’s see how Polites is doing. He seems to be struggling with it, which is not a good sign…
But what are you doing, Odysseus?
He had no idea. To be honest he haven’t even figured out how a decimal point works, but he’ll do it anyway, after all he’s a warrior of the mind! What do those miles add up to? 420? 420 divided by 5.755 is…730, right? Wait that 730 looks so familiar…isn’t that twice as long as 365 days? My goddess, that’s a really long time!
“Mr. Odysseus, what’s your answer?” From afar, he could hear Athena calling to him. But this time, there is no more hesitation. He had found his confidence. He knew his result to be true, though somehow he doubted the validity. But he’s gonna answer it anyway, knowing that had it been wrong, the fault was not his at all, but Athena’s. She provided the data, didn’t she? So nothing can go wrong. Just you chill, just you stand, just you answer.
”Ma’am…it’s two long years.”

Dean/Cas, multichapter, slight AU. Dean's busy trying to re-soulify his brother, but Cas needs help. Maybe it's time Dean gave it to him. Ch. 15: Dean glared indignantly. "I find the term 'lovebirds' to be offensive. We prefer to be called 'sex-falcons.'"
7. Saving Grace - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 38,602 (2010)
With everything that was going wrong in Dean's life, it took him a while to realize that the person close to him that really needed the most help was Castiel.

14. Entertaining Angels - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 43,659 *gen/pre-slash* (2008)

15. Happy Friggin’ Valentine’s Day - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 22,771 (2010)
SLASH. It all started with Dean's perfectly healthy hatred of frivilous holidays and a much-coveted sack of dust. Poor Castiel doesn't fully understand 'romance' to begin with, and this crash course is most unwelcome.
16. I’m Just a Love Machine - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 29,200 (2011)
The Impala finally gets the chance to love Dean back. The problem is, Castiel seems to be in its way.
17. It’s The Great Destiel Shipper, Sam Winchester - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 49,641 (2012)
What's Sam really doing all that time on the computer? Fangirling. Over Chuck's Supernatural books. Now Wincest might be a bit too much to deal with, but Destiel he might be able to get on board with... Especially after being around the two people involved for three days straight.
18. Pain in the Head - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 78,771 *character death* (2011)
It started out slow. "Since when do angels have headaches?" "Since they become human." Established Dean/Cas. Sort of AU. PG-13. Complete.
19. Sleep in Heavenly Peace - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 45,517 *christmas fic* (2013)

20. The Shattered One - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 94,021 *grace mpreg* (2012)
When it struck Castiel, it dropped him out of the sky. He set down the first place he could find. He stood in a field in Switzerland, swaying on his feet and staring down at his body, dazed by what it had just done.
21. This Cupid Isn’t Stupid - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 41,572 (2012)
Dean receives a shock when he wakes up to discover Castiel has returned. Why is the angel suddenly back? Why have his powers dimmed? And.. Why are he and Dean joined together by an invisible rope!
22. Wild Horses, Cas - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 23,505 (2013)
(S8 Spoilers (story is set in S9), Sickfic! Destiel, Minor Sabriel). When Cas comes down with a bad case of Pneumonia it leaves Dean feeling more protective over his friend than ever, but will it also lead to Dean's admittance of his feelings towards his friend?
23. Wrong - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 51,384 (2010)
Angels are not supposed to drop out of the sky into motel rooms, broken and beaten. They're not supposed to bleed like that. It was all wrong.
24. The Reluctant Contestant - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 50,502 (2012)

25. The Ugly Duckling - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 81,676 (2012)
Castiel: a nerdy, skinny thing with a crush on the the most popular guy in class. Being unpopular isn't easy and it's worse when the homophobic school figures him out. A small struggle to be noticed by his crush is turned into a huge struggle for himself and his dignity. But bullying can get the better of anyone. Slash. Destiel rated M for later chapters.

hi! can i just say how much i adore your story "all our yesterdays"? jackie & hyde are so well-written, but i'm here to give a special shout out to your boi BUDDY. omg he is so sweet & amazing & i'm a total simp for him lol. he's such an incredible (and necessary!) friend to jackie, & he works so well with the rest of the group, too (esp fez 👀👀). when you decided to add him in, was it for an additional dynamic or did you just want to explore the character or? either way, EXCELLENT decision :)
hello! thank you for your ask
I first added Buddy because I really liked his one episode and I had read a Buddy/Eric fic that rewrote the series (and it’s not a fic for Donna fans at all so I’m not going to name it) and I saw some headcanons that I really enjoyed and I just sort of fell in love with the concept of Buddy becoming friends with everyone. I just got really attached to him.
I wanted to explore more about Buddy and create some headcanons for him because he was the only queer character that was explicitly stated as being gay. I have headcanons for a Pan Fez, a Demi Jackie, and a possibly Bi Eric, but Buddy was gay in canon even if his existence only lasted one episode. And as someone who is queer, I like to explore those identities through fanfic ‘cause it’s typically a safe space for me.
I really wanted him to be a friend to Jackie because it just made sense to me that they should have been acquainted somehow. They were both rich kids in a small town and Jackie was such an odd character as part of the basement group ‘cause even if she didn’t like her peers she probably should have had more stories of hanging out with them even if it was forced association.
Like she threw a dinner party and invited Donna and Eric, but who were the other kids she invited? She wanted to keep it a small affair and Donna and Eric were obviously invited as her newer friends (and because of plot) and she had become attached to Donna and they were also Kelso’s friends. But Jackie had to have other kids that liked her enough (or thought highly enough of her to like being deemed worthy to attend) to want to go to a small, classy dinner party at her house. And those kids couldn’t be just anyone. This is still Jackie we’re talking about.
s7!Jackie had stated that she was voted most popular despite everything that had happened to her so it made me think that she was still probably playing the games of high school society and even without her money or being a cheerleader I can see her still being a queen bee because of her attitude and her being a fashionista. I mean, think of when Hyde weaponized Jackie against Angie. She was the center of attention and everyone hung on to her every word as she gossiped and spread rumors.
So even though Jackie clearly knows who her friends are and who aren’t when she is sent to the past, she still knows how to run shit, especially when she still has her cheerleader and rich kid status. After that it was easy to create a reason why sweet Buddy who is technically supposed to be one of her peers was just dropped from the story and re-introduce him into Jackie’s life (and that of the basement gang). As Hyde had stated in Buddy’s episode, everyone likes him and what little we saw of him, it seems understandable that he is well liked. That made it easier to try and tie him to Jackie as a friend. Future Jackie knows the girls she used to hang out with aren’t her friends and that she had outgrown her relationship with them and she also knows that Buddy is a nice, decent person or someone she would view as a “better Eric” that also happens to be of the same economic and social rank as her.
It is of my belief that only a Jackie that had matured due to her new life experiences (dad going to jail, dating Hyde, living and being closer friends with Donna) could have been a friend that Buddy would have wanted. He can connect with her because of the fact that they are children of wealthy adults and the fact they don’t really care for their peers even if it’s for completely different reasons.
Being queer and closeted myself, there was nothing more special than having a friend I could be myself around, just truly myself and never had to hide who I was. Jackie is a compassionate character with a lot of love in her even if it’s hidden under her queen bee, bitchy attitude. I could see Buddy being able to open up to someone that cared about him and for Jackie to latch onto him fast the same way she did with Donna. I can see their friendship being like Jackie’s with Donna where they might get irritated with each other but still love each other a lot.
And in the case of Buddy, we might not have gotten a lot about him but he reminded me of someone I once knew who was nerdy and much better off than everyone in our friend group. It was easy to sneak in bits of him into Buddy as someone who typically is down to earth but slips and reveals his privilege as a rich, white man on occasion. And that would probably be something he doesn’t have to be on guard about around Jackie because she understands being able to get whatever material possession she wanted. And I can see it being something he jokes about when it came to his friends who weren’t as rich.
They just seemed like a good match to me.
in the next chapter I’m going to explore some Buddy PoVs and also more friendships for Jackie outside of the basement group. I kind of headcanon Leslie Cannon as one of Jackie’s friends from cheerleading that she lost after Leslie graduated.

Part 2 of The Great Disappointment.
8) Macavity. Do you know why, in horror films, they build up the monster or whatever lurks in the dark for a long, long time, only hinting at its presence before finally doing the big reveal at the end... or, sometimes, not at all? And just leaving you with the impression of something terrible, which is somehow more even chilling? Less is more. In the musical, you don’t see Macavity until the fight scene, and even then it’s brief. He is a specter. He’s scary! The Macavity in this movie? Was not even a little bit scary. Disney villains are scarier. Sheesh. I kind of liked the whole “Macavity is trying to get to the Heaviside layer” angle, but I am so not down for making Macavity ridiculous.
9) Demeter. Erasing her role was a bad idea. That is just my opinion, but look, you install Victoria as a heroine, why not her befriend the skittish, traumatized, yet incredibly strong Demeter who could provide her a reason to want to take Macavity down? Especially since they went and erased Demeter and Bombalurina’s girl power moments by making Bombalurina Macavity’s henchman. Like, OK. And what was wrong with just having Griddlebone in that role? Again, not something I’d bother criticizing if the movie were good, but since it’s not, bite me.
10) The Jellicle Ball. Is supposed to be so full of life and energy. Whenever I hear that electric guitar and the keyboard, I feel like dancing. I can’t dance, but I feel like I bunny hop with the best of them. This Jellicle Ball was just sleepy. People were barely dancing together. And more offensively CGI’d stunts didn’t help. Like. This is the mood-making piece of the show. And you messed it up.
11) The lighting. Anyone else notice how the lighting was pretty much the same the entire movie? They were like, since the story takes place outside at night in the city, they therefore only need one lighting scheme. It made the movie feel like one really really REALLy long scene. Occasionally they went inside but that did not offer the change of pace I’d hoped for. By the time Mungo & Rumpel turned up I was really feeling like “does this stay the same the whole movie”? It pretty much did, until dawn. And you know what I think. I think those shadows were more than just realism. I think they were meant to hide certain, shall we say, unpolished CGI. Convenient that the story’s set at night, huh.
12) The story. There isn’t anything in particulary wrong with the story! In fact there are things I would like to like! Macavity magicking away other cats before Old Deut could have been really cool, if he’d stayed scary. Macavity wanting to go to the Heaviside layer I already said I liked - I just don’t get why he didn’t have any real plan for what he’d do if Old Deut said no. He seemed to just want to kill her, but of course she doesn’t think he’s going to do that, since she’s the one who can grant him his wish, and if he did kill her, she clearly would rather that happen than give him what he wants. He had Bustopher and Jenny and Gus right there - why didn’t he make better use of his hostages? I mean x’D They got the better of him in true Spongebob Squarepants fashion. Also Misto & Vicky are a thing, not my thing, but certainly a thing, and much as I can’t help making fun of the “nerdy guy’s female inspiration!” trope, I was all prepared to LOVE awkward nerdy Misto, and any relationship between him and Victoria, only it was so half-hearted. The stuff between Grizabella and Victoria was fine, I mean, that’s pretty much how it is in the show anyway. It’s not a world-shaking story, but it didn’t have to be terrible. They could’ve made it work so people said it was fine.
But you know, 99% of Cats fanfiction is better, more creative, and more in keeping with the spirit of Cats. A lot of it I think would be better as a movie too. Specifically, all of the fanfiction that takes Demeter seriously and builds up the parallels between Mistoffelees and Macavity should be made into a movie. (I’d have said 100% except there is one Cats fic in particular I had the misfortune of reading and it scarred me, friends, it scarred me. Don’t ask for the details, they are too sick to recount. There is a dark side to fandom people weirdly don’t talk about and this fic was that.)
13) The tone. The tone was so confused. And to be fair, the whole variety show thing doesn’t help. But one minute it’s a sweet, melancholy story of wanting acceptance and living with regret, the next it’s one of those mindless Nickelodeon cartoons where to make viewers laugh you need to slime someone every three minutes. Then it’s a Disney movie where regardless of what’s happening, regardless of who’s singing, and regardless of their own physical capabilities, everyone starts dancing and singing in unison, and lights and red-carpeted staircases emerge out of the interdimensional rift. Then it’s a battle scene from Pirates of the Caribbean, except it’s Captain Jackbob Sparepants. Then Gandalf doesn’t know why he’s here. Then more singing and a lot of STRONG IMPLICATION that the audience should be deeply moved, for reasons. It’s just. A disaster.
14) Certain cats looked naked when not wearing bits of clothes and their lack of visible genitalia disturbed me. There I said it.
15. Rum Tum Tugger had nothing to do with Mistoffelees’s song. So this is just my preference, although I don’t think it’s an unreasonable one. It’s been standard for Tugger to sing “Mistoffelees” for decades. But in the early days Mistoffelees sang it, and some productions still have him sing part. Munkustrap does also sing part of it in some productions as well. I had expected Mistoffelees to sing some or all of it in the movie, and I expected Victoria to be included too. But I didn’t anticipate Munkustrap having a part, and I definitely didn’t expect him to do it instead of Tugger. Tugger didn’t do a single thing after his song except do the rich thug pose with the hotties on each arm. Lol. Waste of an extremely popular character.
I’m pretty sure I could go on for another 15 points but I’m gonna stop there. Things that were good, er...
Victoria. Too bad all she really got to do was look around in wonder.
Mistoffelees. Could have been better, could also have been much worse, so I’m counting my blessings.
Skimbleshanks and Mungo&Rumpel strangely going well.
Nod to Growltiger
The original song, even though it had no place here
I WANTED THIS TO BE SO GOOD YOU GUYS. This is a unique but really fun and special musical. It’s also one of the rare few that has a ton of roles both speaking and non for both men and women, and which can easily be played by people of any race or gender without many audience complaints. It should be our hero. It’s NOT easy to make into a movie, but it didn’t HAVE to be THIS.
Le sigh.

show me where my armor ends, chapter 1/7
ch. 1 | ch. 2 | ch. 3 | ch. 4 | ch. 5 | ch. 6 | ch. 7
Summary + a/n: Here is my Bechloe week submission! It will be a seven-chaptered fic, detailing Beca and Chloe’s relationship in this famous!au I’ve constructed for them.
Beca and Chloe are both famous in their own right: Beca is an up and coming musician. Chloe is an adored movie and television actress. They meet one day, by chance, and find themselves very attracted to each other.
Also on AO3
Day 1: Accidental Kiss
Word count: 3,202
Chapter 1: high hopes
Beca Mitchell enjoys a love-hate relationship with the press.
On one hand, she knows it’s necessary for her career. On the other, she never quite knows exactly how to interact with interviewers - or at least, how to be particularly charming.
Despite her general lack of propensity for the charm and interview etiquette, she somehow manages to make it through her day-to-day responsibilities without too many hiccups. She enjoys that her publicist leaves her alone for the most part. She has a few rules here and there, which really, aren’t too bad because Beca kind of just wants to keep her head down anyway.
Something that Beca can say she loves about her career, however, is the sheer amount of attractive people that she meets on a day-to-day basis.
She’s had her fair share of celebrity crushes, but more importantly, they’ve been reciprocated more often than not.
Unfortunately, it would appear, to her publicist, that it is in her own best interest to keep her relationships underwraps, so Beca chooses to just enjoy the fact that she’s single, as far as anybody’s concerned.
Beca can’t believe how many people equally want to keep their dating history and/or sexualities under wraps, but she’s not really complaining. It gets her through the day.
It’s something that isn’t a necessarily a problem for Beca, that is, until she meets Chloe Beale.
Beca has never been quite so attracted to somebody before and the fact is, they just click. They meet at an afterparty for the Golden Globes for the first time and Beca thinks that Chloe might be flirting with her, but under the haze and dim lights, she’s not quite sure.
They share one dance, alcohol and adrenaline making their bodies move a bit more sensually than what Beca might deem appropriate for public appearances, but at that moment, with Chloe, she doesn’t necessarily care. She feels like she can breathe for the first time in years, since entering the hellhole that is Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
When it comes time for Beca to leave, lest she does something she knows she’ll regret like...kiss Chloe or something, she does so with a squeeze to Chloe’s forearm and an apology on her lips.
To her surprise, Chloe pulls her into a hug.
“Nice to meet you,” Chloe murmurs, tightening her grasp. “I’ve heard so much about you. I’m happy to meet the face behind the name, finally.”
Beca almost wants to ask what Chloe has heard exactly, maybe something along the lines of whether Chloe has heard only good things, but-
“Oh,” she replies articulately, when she pulls back. “I, uh, same,” she manages to say. She has never noticed quite how blue Chloe’s eyes are, and all she can do is stare for a few seconds longer than strictly necessary. Chloe’s bone structure is crazy. Beca kind of wants to touch Chloe’s face or something. She chalks it up to the alcohol.
Chloe kisses her on the cheek, letting her lips linger - or maybe Beca’s mind is working in slow motion.
She does find Chloe’s number tucked into her clutch, written on a piece of paper with a smudged lipstick kiss at the corner.
Understandably, it all spirals into a fast friendship from then on.
Chloe Why are you so talented?! I’m just casually texting my radio station to request your song again. Just once more should do it.
Beca I swear you single-handedly sent me to #1 lmaooo
Chloe What can I say? I have good taste.
It makes sense in some respects - Chloe is an actress, starring in some popular Netflix series - one that just picked up a couple Emmy nods and Golden Globes over the award season. Even though she’s just part of another prong in the industry, Beca supposes they would have worked professionally together in some aspect sooner or later since she heard that Chloe has dabbled in singing from time to time.
Prior to the Golden Globes, Beca had heard of Chloe, vaguely, but never had the chance to interact with her. At least, not in a professional sense. That is, until the director for her upcoming music video informs her that they’ve decided to cast Chloe.
Beca approves in a heartbeat because she has been dying to see Chloe in person again, but their respective schedules just mean that they haven’t had time to hang out. Chloe is so pleasant and fun to talk to via text message and sporadic phonecalls, but Beca craves something a little more physical. Besides, Chloe is pleasant, talented, and, well, Beca has eyes.
Chloe is attractive as hell.
She’s kind of excited to see her again in the daylight.
“Hi,” Beca greets, shaking Chloe’s hand once she arrives on set. The California sun bears down on them unforgivingly, but Beca thinks Chloe looks beautiful, a little flushed, but dressed casually in jean shorts and a red and blue t-shirt. Her eyes light up when she takes in Beca, unabashedly giving her a quick once-over.
Chloe laughs, light and pleasant. “Come on, Bec. I don’t do handshakes. Hug?” she asks. Beca only laughs and meets Chloe halfway, allowing her to pull their bodies together in a warm embrace.
“How have you been?” Beca asks, quickly stuffing her hands in her pockets when she finds that she doesn’t want to let go of Chloe’s waist.
“Good, just working here and there. I had my agent put my name down for this shoot when I first heard about it. I hoped name-dropping you would bump me to the front of the list.”
“That eager to see me again, huh?” Beca replies quickly, finding her tongue suddenly unstuck.
“Well, I mean, you weren’t going to ask me to hang out, so…”
It makes Beca take pause, because Chloe’s tone is flirtatious if she has to describe it. “We’ve both been busy!” Beca exclaims, letting out a laugh.
“Yeah, sure, tell yourself that.” Chloe smiles, however, to let Beca know she means it all in jest. “I’m actually really excited we’re going to work together, finally. You’ll have to let me know if the acting bug ever comes to find you.”
Beca shudders at the thought. “I absolutely don’t think that’ll happen in this lifetime, but how about you keep me in mind if you want to work on a song together one day? I heard that one musical movie you were in. I like your voice.” Beca forces back her own blush at how absolutely nerdy that sounded.
Chloe’s smile is warmer. “One day. I like the sound of that.” She stares at Beca for a moment longer. “Well, I’m going to go finish my make-up, but I’ll see you in a bit!” Chloe giggles. “Also, I’ve never been to Disneyland before, so this is a treat.”
Chloe’s laugh still rings in Beca’s ear that it takes her a while to respond. “You’ve never been to Disneyland?”
Chloe’s voice echoes back to her as she walks backwards, still grinning radiantly at Beca. “There’s a first time for everything!”
Beca can only laugh disbelievingly. She’s still not quite sure what she did to be blessed with Chloe’s presence in her life.

Chloe Beale and Beca Mitchell are FRIENDLY on the set of a new Music Video!
Shooting Mitchell’s new video last Friday, the two were seen hanging out during a lunch break at Disneyland to a lot of fanfare. They took photos with a few groups of fans before grabbing food to go. Eyewitness accounts say that the two were friendly, immersed in their own conversation.
Beale is known for her starring role in Netflix’s The Boss, which recently picked up five Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe wins. Mitchell is working on her second album, working off the success of her first album. Her single “FRIENDS” is her latest release.
The two were first seen together about six months ago during a Golden Globes after party.
See photos from Mitchell’s Disney-inspired music video set here!
Chloe So, we’re gonna do that again, right?
Beca Do what? Disneyland?
Chloe Yes, but this time, without the cameras. I want the full experience!
Beca It’s a d-
Beca bites her lip, quickly slamming the backspace key.
Beca you’re on, beale.
They do end up hanging out again, now that their schedules are a little less hectic. Chloe primarily films during the summer and beginning of fall more rigorously than she does the rest of the year. Beca isn’t really focused on much except the finishing the touches to her album.
They’re not...dates, per se, but they’re verging just beyond friendship. Beca enjoys spending time with Chloe, but she’s conscious of her publicist’s instructions that she keep everything tigh=tlipped and outside of the public eye, particularly since she’s still working on her own blossoming career.
All Beca hears is “stay in the closet” and it makes her hackles rise.
Still, she enjoys hanging out with Chloe - Chloe who has always lived a very public, carefree life, under the media microscope.
Chloe has become one of Beca’s closest friends, and with the speed at which Hollywood moves, Beca’s sure that Chloe is her best friend at this point. She finds herself texting her nonsensical things about fame, being a celebrity, and bounces song ideas off her. Similarly, Chloe texts her the latest updates about drama on set, her arguments with her director, and crazy fan encounters.
Above all, Beca thinks that it’s nice to share her life with somebody, even if it is in a friendship capacity. She tries not to let her mind wander too far.
Now, they’re sitting in a quiet corner at a cafe near Beca’s house. It’s a quiet Thursday afternoon, therefore there is less foot traffic.
Beca grumbles at small blind item on a gossip rag website that seems to be directed at her-slash-is about her.
She thinks that her sexuality isn’t too much of a secret, but she is careful to ensure that nothing ever really gets out because she’s still concerned with her own image as much as the next person.
It oddly feels like she’s in high school again, or even university. Where she was so concerned with what her own father thought about her choices and how she presented herself to her peers and community.
Becoming a famous musician was never really in her books, especially not with all the discouragement she received growing up, but she supposes stranger things have happened.
“You shouldn’t care so much about what people think,” Chloe murmurs, stirring her tea slowly. She watches Beca carefully.
“Not everybody can live like you,” Beca says before she can help herself. Chloe’s long history of dating flashes through her mind.
Chloe scoffs. “It’s just part of the job, sometimes. You know how it is. I just try to be as transparent as I can.” She looks concerned, then. “I’m just worried about you,” she says quietly. “You seem really...sad, sometimes and I don’t know how to help you.”
“You can’t help me,” Beca says quietly. “I don’t need help. I’m fine, like this. I can leave a perfectly fulfilling life.”
Chloe pauses, like she’s afraid to spook Beca if she speaks too quickly. “Then...why haven’t you asked me out?”
“What makes you think...I would...ask you out?” she asks, stiltedly.
Chloe blinks, like she’s surprised at Beca’s reaction. Like she’s surprised that Beca would have had any other reaction than passive acquiescence.
Beca hates simultaneously how calm Chloe is and how right she is in assessing Beca’s attraction to her. She bristles under how easily Chloe can read her, even after such a short period of time. Some of her own friends and family still struggle to break down her walls.
“Do you want me to ask you out?” Chloe asks, after a long silence.
“No! I don’t...I can’t,” Beca mutters. She pushes her mug away, not feeling like drinking coffee anymore - not when her entire body is thrumming. “You know I can’t date you publicly,” she mumbles.
Chloe looks down, a brief sadness passing over her face as she contemplates Beca’s words. “I don’t mind keeping it a secret,” she says quietly. “For you, if that’s what you need.”
It occurs to her then that Chloe legitimately likes her for some reason that Beca can’t fathom.
Another thing that flashes through Beca’s mind is how terrible it would be to keep somebody as beautiful and precious as Chloe a secret.
Still, her mind flashes to all her work, down the drain, because she believes the world isn’t ready to see that on some level.
“I don’t date, you know I don’t,” Beca says, defenses rising.
“I don’t care about your history, Bec,” Chloe says patiently. “You know that.”
“Who said anything about my history?”
Chloe glances away. “I’m sorry, forget I said anything. I didn’t mean to bring it up.”
Beca’s not exactly sure that she can believe it was an accident, but she’s a master of leaving everything as buried under the surface as possible, whenever she can.
It’s how she’s always lived; it’s how she has always been told to live.
Chloe I shouldn’t have said anything. I’m really sorry.
Beca Yeah. I’m sorry for freaking out. That’s just how I am.
Chloe I’m not going to force you into something you’re not comfortable with. That would be wrong of me. I hope we can still be open with each other, though.
Chloe ...still friends?
Beca blinks. She can’t imagine not having Chloe in her life, after everything.
Beca yeah. Friends, Chlo. Always.
They don’t talk as frequently after that particular day, and they definitely don’t see each other in person again until the People’s Choice Awards in November.
Beca is attempting to follow her interviewer’s line of thought - some question about her album release date and potential tour - when she’s distracted by Chloe’s presence. Immediately, she hears the fans screaming for Chloe’s name and she wills herself not to turn, but she smells her, which only makes her groan at how big her stupid crush is.
“Hi!” Chloe says from behind her. “Beca,” she greets. Beca smiles at her interviewer before turning to greet Chloe with a kiss on the cheek or some other formal red-carpet greeting when she meets Chloe’s lips...with her own.
Her entire brain short circuits.
She is aware of two things.
First, that Chloe’s lips are impossibly soft and gentle and slightly parted, like she was going to live a slightly open-mouthed kiss on Beca’s cheek.
Second, that she responds almost instinctively and Chloe equally seems like she isn’t keen to immediately pull back.
Beca does, however. She jolts back and lets out a short laugh to cover up her shock.
Her publicist looks like she’s torn between looking shocked and furious.
There are cameras clicking all around them.
“Oh my God,” Chloe says immediately. She looks stricken and apologetic, before her face morphs and she’s immediately laughing it off, and tugging at Beca’s hand like they’ve been friends for years. “I can’t believe that happened!” she exclaims, turning towards the interviewer and camera to play it off. “I - I’ll see you inside, Bec.” She squeezes Beca’s hands once, in reassurance.
Beca exhales, trying to force a semi-believable smile on her face.
“So,” the interviewer begins. “You and Chloe are friends, huh?”
God, where does she even begin.
Beca finds Chloe in the washroom during a commercial break. She had been keeping an eye out, meticulously (and as surreptitiously as possible) scanning the crowd and rows of audience members. She ignores the persistent buzzing of her phone, likely texts from Jennifer, pushing into the bathroom with shaking hands.
“Hey Beca,” Chloe says, catching sight of Beca through the mirror. Her casualness and friendliness throws Beca off. “Congrats on the nomination. I didn’t get to say so earlier.”
“You too,” Beca says distractedly. “Okay, we’re not going to talk about how you kissed me, then?” Beca asks, trying to keep her tone light.
Chloe laughs, drying her hands. “You mean how you kissed me? In public of all things.” She grins, a little wryly. “I thought you weren’t about airing your personal life in public?”
“Okay, first, you definitely kissed me,” Beca says, unsure why she’s making such a huge deal about all of this.
She feels odd, like something in her is clawing, trying desperately to get out.
Chloe sighs, turning softer eyes towards Beca. “It was an accident, Bec,” Chloe says gently, tilting her head. “I didn’t mean to startle you and you just happened to turn your head when I was going for your cheek. I’ll settle for a hand on your shoulder next time, I promise.” She puts her hand on the door, intent on pushing it open. “For the record though, you definitely kissed me back, but I’m willing to forget about it if you want.”
“Chloe, wait,” Beca starts, immediately feeling regret rush through her. “I’m sorry, I-”
She’s not sure where that sentence was intended to go. She’s not sure what’s going to happen in the next few moments.
She’s sure that she wants to kiss Chloe again.
Maybe it’s something in her eyes, but Chloe beats her to it - or maybe she read Beca’s mind. She cups Beca’s cheeks and presses their lips firmly together, like it’s the most natural thing in the world for them. Like it’s the culmination of this little dance they’ve been doing around each other for the past year.
Chloe smells vaguely of strawberries and her lips taste sweet, like peaches. Beca tilts her head, hands moving to Chloe’s waist, touching soft silk and bare skin. She feels like she’s kind of memorizing these little parts of Chloe, even if she’d like to deny herself the opportunity in the future.
Still, this is now and now, Beca’s focusing on the soft touch of Chloe’s lips against her and the gentle pressure Chloe exerts.
Beca isn’t sure when her eyes fell closed, but she’s just hoping that this isn’t some kind of fever dream because kissing Chloe is everything she imagined and more.
“Oops,” Chloe says softly, just as Beca’s eyes flutter open.
“Was that another accident?” Beca asks quietly, reaching her hands up to hold Chloe’s hands in place against her cheeks. She likes how secure she feels in Chloe’s presence.
“If you want it to be.”
Beca figures that accidents can happen in threes, as she leans up again.

All I can think about is kissing you.
"Simmons had girlfriends” - inspired by the deleted scene ‘Simmons had boyfriends’ from 1x12 (aka the Academy episode) but with more kissing: on their visit to the Academy, Skye gets curious about Jemma’s old makeout spot.
 - for #SkimmonsWeek2017 Day 1. I’ve always been more of a fic than an edit person though, so see below the cut (~2000wd, Rated T) or here on AO3.
“Simmons had girlfriends”
-
Low light, throbbing bass music, the smell of beer and chips.
It was strange how familiar it all was. How the faux-chemistry installation on the wall full of dyed water circulating like a lava lamp still brought a smile to her face. As everyone did who walked in here, Skye remarked upon it, intrigued by the water appearing to flow uphill, and Jemma laughed a little. She wondered what it would have been like if they’d met earlier. Here. Would they have kept to their separate circles, or would she still feel this flutter in her chest? The nerd with a crush on the jock. The teacher’s pet with a crush on the punk. It was as trite as anything she could think of, and yet, it made her weak at the knees.
“Buy you a drink?” Skye offered, pointing at the bar to get her point across over the crowd. Jemma swallowed her words and nodded instead, knowing she didn’t mean it like that and tried to pull her mind back from her sixteen-year-old self and onto the mission at hand. She cast her eyes over the milling crowd; at first seeking out distraction, and soon casing the place, as her field-trained spy instincts were wont to do. For the most part, the buzzing bar patrons ignored her, although the occasional whisper of a few gossip fanatics who knew who she was – or could at least take a guess - cut off in a hurry when she crossed them.
“This is so weird,” Skye muttered, shaking her head incredulously as she returned with two beers and caught two young girls with excited voices duck their heads down and furiously hush each other. “I never picked you for a popular kid. And look at Fitz over there. Lapping it up. It’s a whole new… weird, nerdy world in here.”
Jemma shrugged and turned to face her, and accept her drink.
“It’s no so different really,” she disagreed. “Fitz likes being appreciated, and he’s a very good teacher. He may be a bit of a grump but he doesn’t have enough room under his wings for this lot.”
Skye snorted, amused by the image, and raised an eyebrow. “And what about you?”
“Well,” Jemma scoffed. “I was a child prodigy with a beloved foreign accent and an above average fashion sense. I may have been a bit of a teacher’s pet, I’ll grant you, but I got attention from the rest of the class as well.”
As if to punctuate her point, she smiled at a tall well-muscled blonde who offered her a nod. Skye’s jaw slackened a little and she stumbled forward into the question.
“All – all the class?” she checked, trying not to make it to obvious.
“Well, I mean of course I wasn’t everyone’s type,” Jemma clarified. “But if you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about then – yes, absolutely. I learnt a lot about myself here, I suppose you could say.”
Enjoying the dumbfounded expression on Skye’s face, Jemma savoured her next sip. Skye shook her head.
“I have… so many questions,” she spluttered. “Did Jemma Simmons lose her virginity here? Did you pick up people in bars or did they just fall all over you? Did you have a crush on your teacher? Ooh, did you have a make-out spot?”
“Uh…” Jemma smiled, drawing it out. “Yes. Mostly the second one. Not really, they were too old for me, and, um… Yes, actually.”
A blush touched her cheeks, and Skye lit up.
“This is so juicy, oh my god. I changed my mind, I want my tour now. Before someone shoots up the place or something, knowing our luck.”
“I don’t think we should separate-“
“I don’t think we should come to the birthplace of Doctor Jemma Anne Simmons and not get the full VIP experience. Come on!”
Skye slapped a few dollars on the counter and stood, offering a hand to Jemma, with such a broad grin and such a sparkle in her eye that Jemma didn’t bother to point out that this was not technically her birthplace, nor the birthplace of her doctorates. Skye seemed to be under the impression that the Academy had been her college era, and with way that her heart seemed to be beating in her throat at this very moment, Jemma wasn’t about to object.
“Okay,” she agreed at last, and the two of them slipped out and away from Ward, Coulson and the others. Breathless with their vaguely illicit escape, they ran down the corridor a ways, and bundled each other out the door, and Jemma started semi-breathlessly spouting facts about herself.
“I had my first drink in that bar, when I was sixteen. It tasted like piss and I felt so awful about breaking the law that I didn’t touch another beer until I was twenty-three. I wore a corsage to my first sundowner because I thought it was like a dance. I’ve never seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
“I used to sneak chocolate into church,” Skye returned, letting Jemma push and pull and lead and follow her across the courtyard and behind one of the buildings to another garden. “I’ve been drinking piss beer since I was sixteen and it’s never bothered me. I basically live Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Well, except my car was never that great, but I’m working on Coulson.”
Skye beamed deviously, and Jemma hushed her, and pulled her to the side. Her arm brushed against what appeared to be a palm frond, and she started, puzzled by what seemed to be a semi-tropical secret garden of some sort: succulents and wide-fronded plants, out of place in the otherwise deciduous early-fall environment. A stream bumbled past them. For a moment, Skye forgot it was Jemma holding her hand, until she spoke.
“Technically, this was a botched experiment,” Jemma explained. “Terragenesis. It was supposed to appear and disappear but this one got stuck. It sort of works, though, doesn’t it?”
Skye gazed around the garden; through some trees there was an ampitheatre, covered in mosses and lichens, and above that, Roman-style columns that were far too new to actually be ancient, but that seemed to fit in somehow.
“We call it Bone Garden,” Jemma continued. “Ostensibly because of those, but – well, you know. It was everyone’s… make out place. Wink.”
Skye laughed. She swung her hand, and all of a sudden it felt very significant that Jemma’s pinky had curled around hers, refusing to let go. In Bone Garden.
Then Jemma jumped back, and dropped Skye’s hand, in a rush to look over her shoulder at a sound Skye hadn’t even heard. Her confidence plummeted and she frowned deeply, forehead furrowing anxiously until Skye nudged her out of it.
“Come on, Jem, we are grown-ass adults,” she pointed out. “Teach isn’t going to catch us.”
“No, it’s not that,” Jemma corrected her, eyes searching the grass and dirt at their feet as her cheeks felt hotter and hotter. “It’s just  - I’ve made a mistake, that’s all. Bringing you here.”
Skye’s smirk faded, and she frowned a little at Jemma’s persisting stress. Had she misread something?
“Why?”
“We shouldn’t have separated from the team.”
“We have phones, they can call us if they want us.”
“I know, but all I can think about is – “
“Is what?”
And honestly, Skye didn’t mean her voice to crack like that. She didn’t mean for it to make Jemma look up; not like that, with all her secrets and torn emotions betrayed by those desire-blown pupils. Jemma worried at her lip with her teeth, and Skye’s heart seized. A vision imprinted itself behind her eyelids, of kissing those lips with impugnity; of making out with Jemma as if they were those college teens after all; of pulling hair and pressing skin and breathlessness. And all this really wasn’t helped by Jemma’s quiet confession –
“All I can think about is kissing you.”
Skye inhaled, but it was more than just the unseasonably warm air that filled her lungs. It was more than just the high of sneaking out; more than standing in this place surrounded by the ghosts of a thousand kisses gone before; more than all their little touches and strange, half-meaningful glances that had never quite seemed to meet up.
It was an opportunity, and those words were an open door, and if Jemma wasn’t going to walk through it, then Skye was.
The breath was crushed out of the air between them, fleeing Jemma’s lips in an audible sigh that sent tingles through Skye’s body. She was doing most of the work, pressing them together until every inch seemed to be touching, but when Jemma’s mind caught up at last, she moved. She climbed her fingers above Skye’s waistband and under her shirt, teasing at her hips with an electricity that must have been building up all day - all year - maybe even since before they’d met. Even when their lips parted, it crackled in the air between them.
They took a moment of spinning silence, catching up with themselves. Though she knew it was irrational, part of Jemma wondered whether the static she felt would mess up her hair. Skye simply smiled, a little more meekly this time, almost tempted to run a finger over her lips to test what had really just happened. She bit her tongue instead.
“I… Skye,” Jemma started eventually, a little distracted as she noticed some force apparently keeping her fingers glued to Skye’s hips. It was a little mortifying, but Skye didn’t seem to mind, which was even more mortifying and yet, made it all worth it. She took a deep breath.
“First of all, I’m glad you did that,” she explained. “I’m not very good at – at pushing boundaries, and while I feel I’ve gotten better of late… well, we might still have been here for a thousand years, if not exactly forever. So, thank you. But I have to be honest, I don’t know much about you, and I’m not sure…”
“…If you can trust me?” Skye suggested hesitantly, wondering if she should have seen it coming. She had lied a lot at first, after all. But Jemma shook her head.
“I’m not sure what I want.”
“Your hands seem to be pretty sure.”
Still glued to Skye’s hips. Jemma smiled down at them awkwardly, and blushed.
“Yes. Quite,” she blustered. “But…”
“What happened to Oh, I was a child prodigy with a fancy accent and sexy cardigans?” Skye teased. “You liiiiike me.”
“I do,” Jemma admitted, but since she was turning the colour of a nearby hibiscus, Skye decided to tone down the teasing. With a soft and genuine smile, she stepped forward and took Jemma’s hands in her own, letting their foreheads drift closer together.
“I like you too,” she promised. “Not just because of crazy college hormones; I really think you’re great. And super smart. And super attractive. And I’m willing to slow this down if – if you think we could be something.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely.”
Jemma looked up at Skye then, and as with any good makeout spot, it felt a little like there was noone else in the world but them. She bit her lip, and smirked, and Skye narrowed her eyes.
“You’re doing that on purpose now, aren’t you?”
“Mm, yes I am.”
Her cover blown, Jemma saw no reason for delaying any longer. She stood up on her toes and put her arms around Skye’s neck and kissed her again, soft and sweet and lingering – until a sharp and sudden vibration in her pocket made her jump. Skye squeaked, nursing a bitten lip, as Jemma scrambled for her phone and tried to answer Coulson with some semblance of decorum. At last, she hung up and turned to Skye with a strained smile on her face.
“Coulson’s signed up Fitz and I for a presentation to the entire cadet class in five minutes,” she explained with a laugh. “Isn’t that wizard?”
Skye pouted in sympathy.
“Look on the bright side,” she said. “At least we didn’t wreck your hair?”
