im punching the floor so hard bc they very rarely interact in official media but the few times they do its like weirdly opposite ends of the spectrum re: respect

in like sonic x, knuckles fights shadow hard enough that shadow takes off his inhibitors to try and finish this quickly, but it's not quick and largely ends up DECENTLY even (knuckles is STRONG!!!!!!!!!!) which garners some respect on both ends but hilariously knuckles thinks shadow is a rude bitch (true) who doesn't even say goodbye :/ like what's up with that. come on

in stuff like team sonic racing they mostly just butt heads (hilarious) but i don't rlly think it was anything personal and more just they're both competitive people, it's their whole thing it's how their things with sonic happened etc.

in archie they also largely just fight (WHOOOOO ECLIPSE OF THE HEART ARC) with like mostly no respect until the end, not because of like fighting prowess necessarily but just like. th. the parallels. also hialrious moment where they're literally beating the shit out of each other including knux throwing shadow by the quills only for them both to fall in a river and they help each other swim to shore and catch their breaths before glaring at each other and going back at it

the twitter takeover i am so fucking obsessed with the weird casual respect they had for each other . oh the giving sonic third place. oh the telling shadow he's brave for admitting he doesn't hate sonic. oh the admiration of knuckles' beautiful rock.

anyways tldr they really don't interact much at all in the actual canon games themselves, they might genuinely never fucking talk in all of sa2, i think they're the only pair up that doesn't happen in the sonic rivals games even tho they Could've .... there's the knuckles mission in shth tho i . i largely forgot how it goes it's pretty generic iirc and they're on decent enough ribbing terms there so. they probably don't rlly think about the other much bc neither of them are the type to really Think about other people like that lul but i'm sure they would nod solemnly in greeting if they passed each other in the street

my personal hc is that ford actually has a god awful relationship with nearly everyone in the pines family and like. he's mostly fine with it. it's more of an annoyance to him. the only one that actively hurts is stan, because stan wasn't supposed to be Just Family. but he's physically incapable of just saying that he's hurt so he simply Doesnt.

but like, other than that? he doesn't feel that he lost much. "family" isn't for people like him (this idea switches between god complex 'I'm so much better than the average person'/'I'm an autistic gay man with a visible ""deformity"" who's only skill is being smart ofc no one would want me in their family')

stan still hasn't really processed this in the 30 years he's been pretending to be ford bc he desperately wants to have a family. he wants family more than anything, it's everything to him! he wants kids and relatives and a busy house and the lack of it is eating him from the inside out.

and he can't add together how little ford seems to have interacted with everyone. how little they seemed to see of him and how little he told them about what his job was. because he could've had that, right? ford could've had their fathers respect! he could've settled down! he could be everything they were Supposed to be, but instead he had a mental breakdown in the woods and stan can't figure it out

I know that, right now, the fandom favorite theory is 'maybe everyone's Ruidusborn!' so I'm here to be a killjoy and suggest the opposite: maybe Fearne is the only Ruidusborn.

I think (though I'm not entirely sure; as has been stated before, my memory is swiss cheese) that Imogen is as of yet not actually confirmed Ruidusborn. It’s an assumption based on her dreams and powers, as well as the mystery surrounding her mother. But what if Imogen is not actually Ruidusborn in the regular sense, buth rather from Ruidus in a literal sense (or more accurately, her mother's from Ruidus, or rather that recently discovered city on it).

What if Imogen is an alien.

This may be a stupid question because i don't know terminology well, but wouldn't DATD Ren be technically plural anyway because there are multiple beings in that body. It's just like... not plural via any IRL means? or is the word plural exclusive to actual systems and DID havers and such. :0 Mostly asking because I've used the term on similar situations in other fandoms and now I'm like oh shoot is that an exclusive thing.

not a stupid question, just a complicated one we legitimately don't know the answer to. in terms of raw definition of the term, yes, datd!ren and rk would be considered plural on account of their being multiple people in one meat mech.

in terms of "is it an exclusive thing" that's... more difficult to explain? at least for us the answer is no, not really, but it can be a little uncomfortable for us specifically when language we use to describe our everyday experience gets... i don't really have a better way to phrase it, fandomized? used to describe a character where you already have terms to describe that character that aren't specifically connected to. actual things.

honestly this answer is a little flim-flam for a lot of reasons because we're very torn on this -- like yes, datd ren is plural in that sense and yes, systems happen for all kinds of reasons irl and we're extremely anti-gatekeeping in that regard. on the other hand though, we uh. we remember what happened to the term "little" and how thoroughly the definition of that term was ruined when initially it was mostly used to mean "a system member who is underage, most commonly a tween or younger"

no real conclusion to this response and we apologize for that, just, it's probably better to explain the reason why our answer is inconclusive than just going "idk man" and leaving it at that. ultimately the answer is "idk" though, like. we're just one system and different plural folks may feel differently about this type of terminology thing, and we definitely do not want to speak for everyone on this point.
