1. What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re…hot…”
2. Does this change over time? What things do they find “hot” about their partner after they’ve been together for some time, and have had more time to, well, notice and appreciate?
3. By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…”
18. They’re going through something incredibly difficult—perhaps they’re very sick, have lost a loved one, or have gone through a traumatic event. Do they ask for or accept support and care from their partner, or try to isolate themselves?
19. Are they okay with public displays of affection? Do they like them?
And
35. Would they get a pet? What kind? Who brings up the idea, and who takes a little longer to convince?
(oh these are a lot xjdjdjd)
thank you! these are great questions and they allowed me to put together some of my favorite moments from the lioness and the wolf through the lens of the story being complete. i hope readers enjoy this little exercise as much as i did!
very long answers under the cut!!! spoilers, obviously.
1. If you asked Eirwen, she would say this moment was when she first thought of Solas as more than just vaguely handsome. When they are sitting together in the garden, after having something of an argument and then coming to something of an agreement:
She swallowed hard and bit her bottom lip, studying the way the torchlight cast his sharp jaw and cheekbones in dark relief. She could just barely see the spattering of freckles across his nose and under his eyes.
She forgets, though, that she had previously noticed his dexterous hands, and the control he put into his every movement, and how his magic compliments hers. The combination of these little things are what makes her want him, at least at first.
His slender fingers tied tourniquets and stroked tears from the faces of crying children.
Most men, in such a frustrated state, would take their anger into the task at hand. But Solas was no less gentle in how he turned their meal, the stick he used just barely prodding a root onto its side.
She stood alone in the clearing of her dreams, feeling the weight of his absence around her. She hadn’t told him as much, but until she met him she’d never casually shared her dreams with another mage.
If you asked Solas, perhaps after a few drinks, he would admit that he always found her pleasing to look at. Not hot, necessarily, but she is beautiful and he’s not blind. What he would most likely not admit, perhaps not even to her unless she really prodded him, was that the moment he first found her not just beautiful but stirringly, vibrantly attractive, was this:
He coughed, blinking hard, looking through narrowed eyes as the last of the lightning spread out from a great shape standing before him. She had borrowed the form of a Vinsomer, a powerful lightning dragon, but she was no more than a third the size of a full-grown animal. Its wings were likely too small to create real lift, but they would serve as formidable weapons in a fight.
She turned to him, a low, rumbling growl building in her throat. He was briefly reminded that a dragon’s form could prove difficult to control, that just standing here before her could put him in danger.
Which, yeah, is objectively funny because she turns into a dragon and he’s like ‘wow okay huh I’m kinda hard’ but it’s not just because she turns into a dragon. It’s because that’s supposed to be a thing that only gods can do, and even if he doesn’t put much stock in gods, the instinct to worship a woman who can turn into a several-ton flying storm lizard is not something one easily ignores. He’s impressed by her brazenness, by her confidence, and by the sheer power she wields. He found her lovely before, but when she turns into a dragon a part of him suddenly wants her to fuck him and I’m not sure he’s felt that in a long time.
2. Later on, after Eirwen spends some time trapped in the Fade, they are reunited at the Winter Palace. When Solas first sees her here, he is again taken aback by how heretical her presence is on its own, and he loves that for obvious reasons. He really takes in her appearance, and openly admires her beauty.
Her long black hair had been plaited into countless tight braids and pulled back into a thick bun. Silver beads in her hair glinted in the light of the chandeliers as she stepped down into what he supposed would be the dance floor later on. Long black boots and a pale blue vest framed her upper thighs and hips, while wyvern scales at her neck contrasted with her dark brown skin. Unlike nearly everyone else, her shoulders were bare. Despite the gloves that reached to her toned biceps, he knew she would be cold. Would it distract her, if he sent a spell to warm her now? Excited, curious humans whispered around him, and he wondered if that was why he felt sparks in the air.
Not much has changed for him, and I think he still finds her all-around stunning first and foremost --but there’s a degree of ‘well, obviously’ to it that I think he uses to assure himself that he doesn’t want romance from her. He can’t do that anymore once he starts looking a little less respectfully thanks to fancy Orlesian wine.
"We don't have to go, you know." Her voice sounded wistful, and he swallowed hard at the strange look on her face. Pain? Hope? "We could just... slip away somewhere."
He forced himself not to ask her for elaboration. "We should go to support the Inquisitor."
"Right, yes. Of course." She nodded and sipped from her wine before giving him a small smile and turning toward the stairs. His eyes fell to the shape of her rear and thighs, emphasized by her tall boots, and he cursed the mixture of fear and longing in his heart.
He also really likes her black undershirt, because it’s very flattering and highlights her curves, and also because it’s something only he gets to see.
Eirwen comes to find two things about Solas very hot the better she gets to know him: first, his ability to turn into something kind of monstrous--
"It must burn, Knight-Captain, to know that you did not help them. That you were too busy serving a usurper to perform a duty decades in the making."
He stepped closer to her, and her hand grasped the hilt of her sword. "Not one step further. I am not afraid to cut you down, elf."
He smirked --sardonic, wolfish. "Ah, but you won't. Not here. Perhaps in the Dirth you might have had your chance." She stepped towards him and he held his ground. Eirwen shifted so she was in-between the mage and Templar, but Solas did not allow her. He closed the distance between himself and Lezare, gently pushing Eirwen aside. She ought to stop this, but she trusted there was some purpose to his cruelty. "But here, it must be so painful to know we are equals."
Definitely a ‘put me down as scared AND horny’ moment on her part. Only made sharper moments later by probably my favorite line in my own goddamn story (yes, I am full of myself):
"Remind me never to get on your bad side, Solas," she shook her head, still unsure of how to process what she'd seen. "I would hate to be at the mercy of your silver tongue."
He smiled slyly at her, watching her search the room. "Would you?"
Heat flashed on her face and she sputtered, covering her mouth. "I -um, wow."
And second, his fucking muscles (especially his arms):
Sweat gleamed on his exposed skin, highlighting the toned muscles of his biceps and forearms. His tunic lay on the ladder to his platform, draped over the top rung as if he'd flung it there haphazardly. His undershirt and leggings were dark green and near skin-tight, showing every shift of his back and rear as he worked. She chewed on her bottom lip, eyes tracing the contours of his body from his narrow waist to his thick thighs.
[...]
His undershirt left little to her imagination; he was more muscular than she thought, the shape of his abdominals obvious beneath the tight green fabric, and he was well-built for an elf. Seeing him like this, still catching his breath, laying back on the hard wooden platform, she thought he looked younger than she first took him for.
3. Solas falls hard for her first. Unfortunately it takes almost losing her to realize that.
He should have stayed with her, fought by her side against the Nightmare. They could have done it in, together. Had he not been so selfish, he might be with her now: seeing her lithe form leaning on the wall beside him, hearing her open, joyful laughter, watching the sideways smile that pulled at her full lips when he said something clever. He could almost see her grey eyes shining in the moonlight, sweat gleaming off her dark skin like stars. The twitch of her ears when she asked him a question, the way she watched him when he spoke. He wanted to listen to more of her stories, hear her weigh old decisions in her constant self-reflection. He wanted to touch her, to feel her weight against his chest and her skin against his.
She was the dearest friend he had in this world, and now she was gone.
He still consciously considers this platonic. I do not say this to downplay the importance of platonic relationships, especially for Solas, but he is wrong. He wants to love and be loved by her, and for a moment he is very suddenly forced to mourn the loss of what could have been.
Eirwen’s feelings towards romantic love specifically are complex. I think Solas attempts to reject any kind of love (and fails miserably). Eirwen specifically struggles to feel that it’s okay for her to love someone romantically after losing Alistair. In both her mind and in her legend, she is Alistair’s great love. A part of her reputation as Hero of Ferelden is being Alistair’s widow. She spends ten years trying to pry the myth of her from who she actually is, and while she’s mostly managed that by Inquisition, she still struggles to come to terms with being in love again. Dealing with the Nightmare helps to clear this from her, but it’s not until she meets Mythal for the first time that she’s able to admit it’s okay that she wants to love and be loved.
"I thought I'd be able to face it. I thought I'd be okay with dying. I knew it'd happen eventually, and I knew it'd happen sooner rather than later. So I thought about it a lot, after I came out of the Fade. I thought maybe if I just made my goodbyes, if I lived out a few good months, I could find a way to be happy with the end of everything." She shook her head. "But I can't. Because... I'm happy here. Because there are people who love me and who want me to be happy. And I think... I think I might make them happy too."
Without overcoming this hurdle, Eirwen cannot have this moment later on:
"I do love you," she whispered against his lips. "I do, I promise I do."
His laugh came easier now, more genuine. "You sound as though you're reassuring yourself."
"Because..." He leaned away to look at her, and her glassy gaze met his. "I haven't loved anyone in a long time. And it doesn't feel like... like something I should do to you."
She’s still struggling, but she’s getting better. And later on, when he tells her everything, knowing he trusts her that much solidifies this bond still.
I do, however, think that her love for him still has room to develop. I think Solas is the type to love very passionately and deeply and with everything in him, while Eirwen did that once and then her lover died. Recall that her sacrifice at the end of the story only appears to be for his sake --in reality, she dies trying to save herself.
She’ll get better, though.
18. Oh, both of these idiots attempt to isolate and self-medicate. It’s only when this doesn’t work that they reach out to each other for support. Luckily, as their relationship develops, they don’t have to actively reach out as much for the other person to see that they’re hurting. This is less obvious in TLatW but should be explored more in the sequel. Even still, they read each other extremely well throughout the story:
Something in his expression tightened her chest, and she swallowed back the lightness she felt. He looked sincere, and understanding, and seeing that made her feel better. "You were afraid."
She looked away, feeling heat on her face. "I was. I was terrified."
Her hand brushed against his. He hesitated, then gently wove his fingers between hers and gave her hand a soft squeeze. It only lasted a moment before he let go, and she gave him a small, sideways smile. He looked away from her, but smiled nonetheless.
Then, much to his surprise, a small smile lit her face. "You're very dramatic, lethallin." He frowned, unsure how to respond. "Of course you deserve forgiveness. I just..." She reached for his hand and he gave it. Her fingers felt so small in his. "I need to know that you see me. Not as a concept, or a story, or a figment in the Fade. I have made mistakes, very big mistakes, but I'm still a person and I'm trying to make things better."
"I know," his voice fell, and he looked into her eyes. "Ir abelas." He squeezed her hand. "Ma melava halani amelin."
"It happens to us over and over again. To mages, to elves. I know what it means to be all that's left. The Denerim alienage was purged during the Blight, and the orphanage became a nightmare of demons. The Ferelden Circle was very nearly annulled, and what remained was... it was a shadow of the only home I ever had." She added her other hand to his. His heart pounded in his ears and he reached for her, tentatively, carefully. His fingers brushed her cheek. Her sparks danced on his skin. "I know you, dreamer," she whispered. "And I am just like you."
"The more time passes, the more the Calling pulls me towards it." He gently stroked her cheek, felt her soft skin beneath his touch. She hummed and leaned into his hand. "If you weren't here..."
Gently, he drew her close and pressed his lips to her hairline. Then he rested his forehead on hers, his fingers slipping toward the back of her neck. "I am here, vhenan."
19. They are both comfortable with PDA to some extent. I think both prefer to keep things fairly professional, but considering how much life-threatening danger their professions entail, neither would object to quickly holding hands or whispering ‘I love you’ when no one is paying attention.
She relaxed her hold on Morrigan's leg and let Solas pull her close, resting her head on his chest. Adaar gently spread a healing poultice over the wound, then began to wrap it in a thick bandage. "You'll need to be a bit careful with it, but as long as you don't overexert yourself it should heal fine."
35. ‘Pet’ is a strong word for ‘semi-feral animals Eirwen entices to live around and sometimes inside of their future home.’ Solas... tolerates this. He likes the cats. And has a grudging respect for the crows. The bears are extremely concerning.

Figured coming out from under my rock should happen sometimes and be late to the party. I'm Jess, age 31. My URL actually comes from... well... I've had the same internet name since I was 16ish or so from AOL onwards, so it's more or less become one of my names. Hobby wise I am working on my art, gaming both video and table top, and RP. I came around for the space marines stayed for the science (tornadoes always fascinated me) and other fun stuff. I'll get back to you on a question.
I'm glad you enjoy the tornado stuff as well as the fannish stuff! I always kinda wonder about that, because I suddenly have a lot more followers than I used to and my blog is only maybe... 50% fandom posts? 60%? Makes me a little nervous, haha.
Hanging onto usernames across platforms becomes a bit of a Thing, doesn't it? I can't imagine changing mine right now, and I've only had it for seven, eight years.

Hi hi! I'm a Sol, kinda of elusive and love to hang out in my cave. Fav colors are blue and purple. I don't really ship, I just support mass orgy for most of the characters, whatever works in the end. Love cookies and cream ice cream. And the only reason I'm not a crazy cat lady is because some how I managed to get a flock of parakeets instead.
Hi Sol!
I have a secret for you back when I wrote/watched/actually enjoyed Glee, I totally wrote pile!ship stuff all the time. But don’t tell anyone.

They said Charon in the weapon types... as in... the Staff of Charon? Could we be looking at the insurrectionists?
I think that might just be a weapon class, but I'm sure Innies are still a thing... just probably not relevant to the plot at hand.

shameless self-promotion
Reasons to read my solas x hero of ferelden fic, the lioness and the wolf :
i try very hard to keep solas sounding in-character and i think i do an alright job
the surana origin has essentially zero backstory so i can make up all kinds of weird shit
morrigan is there and she hates solas a lot
there is a dwarf with celiac disease
solas and eirwen are two very broken people who come to love each other as they bond over the guilt they carry over being alive when their loved ones are gone due to their own mistakes and failures
jokes
symbolism
at one point a 6′5″ elf woman shows up and she doesn’t do all that much but i just think she’s neat
they haven’t done a sex yet but they will i promise they just keep being like ‘nooo we shouldn’t! you deserve better’ but there is a lot of ~gentle touching~ that these touch-starved idiots go wild for
weirdly detailed descriptions of bird behavior and birds in-general
random bouts of iambic meter sprinkled throughout
if you crack the secret code hidden in every chapter i will give you $11 and a coupon for dominoes pizza (first three winners only)
the fic follows as if the HoF decided to join the inquisition and accidentally became friends with solas, who only yells at her about how much he dislikes wardens three times, which i think shows a low of restraint on his part.
anyway i think my story is good even though it is not beta read and is mostly fueled by raw manic energy. it is not done, but it’s getting closer to the end and i’ve put a lot of time into it.
also, that ‘major character death’ tag is not a joke alright bye!!

The Lioness and the Wolf, Ch 39
He considered his words, brows furrowing for a moment before he went on. "If you could go back and prevent the destruction of the Fifth Blight from ever happening, if you could... erase the past ten years... would you?"
"To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how different things would be. This particular Blight ended quickly. So, with that in mind..." She shrugged. "I suppose I would. The net result would be less suffering."
"Yet... had the Blight never occurred, Dagna would never have left Orzammar. Hawke would not have gone to Kirkwall. There are children who never would have been born, lovers who may never have met. And," he paused, studying her. "Had you not been conscripted to the Wardens, you would have been killed or made Tranquil."
"Hm..." She bit the inside of her cheek, letting his words sink in. "So... would I have sacrificed those things, if it meant no Blight?"
"Yes."
"I... I have two different answers, if that's alright."
"Of course."
He looked at her, eyes shining in the dark, and she laced her fingers with his. He squeezed her hand gently, his expression softening. "I believe that my initial answer is the 'right' one. There are people who would not exist if the Blight never occurred, but there are also people who do not exist because of it. And... I believe that there are far more of the latter than the former. Even if... 'setting the clock back,' so to speak, caused some suffering, I believe not doing so caused more."
"Yet... you cannot know that."
"No, but..." She bit her lip. "Things seem... pretty bad, as they are."
She thought he would laugh at that, but he did not. Instead his eyes narrowed slightly. "They could always be worse."

Glimpses: Punching Down
Rating: T
Genre: General/Romance
Verse: Remedy for a Supernova
Pairing: Solas x Surana
Warnings: Post-Trespasser
@dadrunkwriting
She stood on the precipice, looking down over the crackling battlefield with her arms crossed tightly over her chest and her brows knit in irritation. Far below her the Veil shuddered, weakened, pummeled by powerful war spells wrenched from the Fade.
She could feel it, stronger than ever now. It would be no effort to shift, would only strain her slightly to bring on even her greatest form. The time she’d spent in the Sou’amelan, the damage done to the Veil, it all brought her more power. Already, the strength Solas had sapped from his own creation had made mages out of countless terrified elves, had empowered the ones who already knew their gifts.
He hadn’t wanted her here, had specifically told her not to go. She was, after all, sort of still dying. She ought to stay in her garden and rest, work on getting her strength up.
But as genuinely appealing as that sounded, she didn’t actually think it would do her any good. Being locked in a tower with only plants for company was far too reminiscent of being young and scared and bound by Templars. Out here, watching the fighting like a play, was much more therapeutic.
She didn’t even actually know where he was. She was at a good enough distance that most of what she saw was fire and lightning, but she knew he had to be there somewhere. His people liked to see their general fighting alongside him and she couldn’t say she disagreed with them. It helped that she had full faith he would survive, as Thedas was still too splintered for any kind of cohesive defense. Most of this was trivial for his army and their powerful magic. Any kind of anxiety on her part would be an unwarranted waste of energy.
She felt a shudder near her and turned around, ears pricked, muscles tensing slightly. Her arms fell from her chest and she blinked, surprised at the arrow pointed at her face, and the wild-eyed elf behind it.
“I thought you were dead,” Sera hissed, shaking her head slightly. “I didn’t believe it at first, yeah? When Leliana said you’d gone bad.” Eirwen said nothing, still watching the drawn arrow, tensed to escape. “It didn’t make sense. I thought you... I remember you, from when I was a kid, I didn’t think --you were supposed to be a good one.”
“How did Leliana figure out where I am?”
Sera bristled. “Like it matters! You’re a traitor.”
“I am?” Eirwen raised an eyebrow. “I wasn’t sure I still had much left to betray.”
The shorter elf’s arm tensed and she drew the arrow back even farther. “Shut up! Just shut up.” Her shoulders shook as her face tensed, as tears welled in her eyes. “I liked you, you know? And I don’t like a lot of people. You were supposed to be different.”
“Sera-”
“I said shut up.” Eirwen put her hands up defensively and Sera shook her head. Her arms shivered as she held her arrow taught, primed to strike. From here, Eirwen knew she only had a few options. Sera was an absurdly deadly archer, the type Eirwen couldn’t distract or disturb if she tried. For all of Sera nonsense, she always aimed true. And she doubted she could shift and escape fast enough to avoid Sera’s shot --and even if she could, she’d seen the girl shoot a crow from the air before.
Sera shook her head, tears spilling over now, and Eirwen forced herself to relax. “I am so sorry, Sera.” She kept her voice low and gentle, attempting to soothe her. “I wish it didn’t have to be this way. You deserve much better.”
“Nothing needs to be anything.”
“You don’t know, Sera.” Eirwen’s voice took on a pleading tone and she stepped forward, lowering her arms. “All those little people you care about, all the innocents who have been beaten down by this world, we could make everything better for them.”
“No.”
“Yes. I’ve seen it, seen what we could do. No more slavery, no more nobles, no more servants and alienages and slum towns. No more punching down. Everyone takes care of each other, and we rebuild what we have into something much better.”
“There’ll always be punching down. Maybe at first you make it all better, but then what, yeah? Then new people just make it all shite again.”
“That won’t happen.”
“It always happens.”
“Not this time,” she carefully let her arms rest, peering into Sera’s eyes. The arrow was so close now, close enough that if Sera released it Eirwen would surely die instantly. “Trust me. You have before. Put down the bow and I’ll explain everything.”
Sera’s eyes narrowed and Eirwen exhaled, watching her, tracking the way he arm tensed. There was nothing in her to suggest she’d even considered what Eirwen said, and as Sera opened her mouth to speak Eirwen drew a powerful thread of magic from the Fade. “You’re no better than any other shithead hurting people.”
The thread struck out in a sudden and violent flash, smacking Sera back so harshly that she landed on her rear and let her bow slide away across the grass. Without waiting for her Eirwen shifted, wrapping herself in her crow form and taking flight well before Sera could scramble back to her weapon and take aim. Even as she escaped, Eirwen felt a rush of air just behind her tail feathers as an arrow soared past.
Far below her the battle petered out. Eirwen flew wide and crossed the hills, returning to the secluded grove she’d wandered out of. The grass felt soft beneath her fingers as she shifted back and crouched low, breathing heavily. Her pulse pounded and her lungs felt tight. By now darkness had begun to fall, bathing the grove in a warm rush of pinks and oranges. Her ears pricked at the sound of footsteps behind her, but she felt no panic or concern.
His aura brushed against hers and she stood, feeling his magic with her own. She turned, smiling as Solas emerged from the path. He looked tired and dirty, but no worse off than usual. “Vhenan,” he said, and she laughed breathlessly as she approached him. Their gloved hands held and squeezed each other, their fingers twining together as they lips met in a soft, slow kiss. “I told you not to follow me,” he whispered as they broke apart.
“You knew I wouldn’t listen.” He kissed her again, humming softly against her lips.
“Sometimes I wish you would, ma lath. You are too important to me. I cannot imagine what I would do if you were hurt.”
“Mm...” She cupped his cheek and raised an eyebrow, still smiling at him. “Hopefully nothing too stupid.”
He snorted and rolled his eyes. “I make no promises.”
With their hands still twined together, they turned around to face a rock wall covered in tangled ivy. As they neared it the stone shuddered at their magic, the image warping as it returned to its true form: a pristine Eluvian, leaning against the wall of the grove, locked and hidden to all but a precious few.
The feeling of walking through it was something Eirwen had yet to grow accustomed to. The mirror rippled around her, cool and soothing on her body, but alien and unnerving all the same. Each trip through one of the ancient mirrors gave her an uncanny mixture of hope and homesickness, a need to press forward with an ear tuned to the past. She hoped that feeling, whatever it meant, would never disappear.

Professor solas headcanon
If professor solas had an Instagram that he could share pics of eir on he would post all these gorgeous artsy pics of her. Like he'd post so many pictures of her people would think it was her modeling account. And she'd look beautiful in all of them
Meanwhile hers would be full of awful candid shots of him. Like, mid-bite or speaking or blurry af. Her icon would be him making a dumbass face because she took the pic without telling him.
They are in love.

Rating: Explicit

Summary:
In the foreground of history was Ozeni Adaar, proud leader of the shining Inquisition. Behind her, a former hero and a lost god found solace in each other.
A story about Solas and Eirwen Surana, two surprisingly similar people who fall in love --reluctantly but hopelessly.

Though they’ve admitted they can’t resist each other physically, Eirwen is far from able to admit how emotionally attached she is to her professor.
-take place sometime between Persuasive and A Normal Relationship-
Her eyes narrowed into the dark, confusion tensing her features as she tried to ignore the possibility itching her brain. She switched lanes and kept the wheel steady as she looked at the figure wandering down the highway, his bald head shining in the bright streetlights.
With a spark of concern she pulled over into the breakdown lane fifty meters or so ahead of him. She put her emergency lights on, took out her taser, and walked toward him to make sure she wasn’t seeing what she thought she was. Unfortunately, the drunken man was obviously her professor.
He’d let his eyes fall to the ground, watching every step carefully as he stumbled over the unfinished sidewalk. His white shirt, stained with a string of red wine, was undone and his tie was barely attached to him. He held his jacket over his shoulder, and though she didn’t want to linger on it she was fairly certain his fly was undone.
“Solas?” She asked, raising her voice over the roar of the road. “Are you okay?”
He glanced up at her, brows furrowed, unable to reconcile her presence with his situation. “What is… yes?”
She frowned and wrapped her arms tightly around herself, shivering in the harsh nighttime cold. “Maker’s breath, how much have you had?”
“Ah…” He hesitated, tried to put his hand over his mouth, and nearly fell over.
“Maker- Solas.” She caught him and sighed, holding his arm to steady him.
“There was… a game. I believe I won.”
“Right, that’s why you’re wandering down the road? Where’s your car?”
He blinked rapidly, suddenly struck by a deep and powerful confusion. “I… I haven’t any idea…”
“Come on, let’s get you home.” She needed to go to sleep; she had class early the next morning and had only just gotten off work. On a regular night like this she would only get 6 hours of sleep, and already she knew she’d be losing some for dealing with this. “What’s your address?” She tugged at his arm, helping him toward her car.
“It- ah…” He hesitated, then shook his head and almost tripped again. “Hold on,” he managed before pushing her aside, almost roughly. She blinked, stiffened, immediately startled by his harshness before he doubled over and gagged loudly. His jacket started to slip off his shoulder and she picked it up, holding it against her chest as he spit on to the ground. With a pained grunt he straightened, stumbling back and forth, shaking his head again. She sighed and put her hand on his back, looking at him worriedly.
“Are you alright, hahren?”
The term seemed to sober him, if only slightly, and he wrapped his arm around her waist. She blushed and smiled, her mood immediately softened by his touch. “I will be, da’len. Thank you.”
She laughed and helped him steady himself, then gently helped him into her car. Back in the driver’s seat she looked over at him, rolling down the window with her free hand as the other shifted the car into drive. “If you feel like you need to throw up, please, please don’t do it in my car.”
He chuckled and let his head fall back against the seat. “I won’t. Though I have had… far too much to drink tonight.”
“I can tell,” she pressed her foot against the break pedal, still looking over at him. “What’s your address, hahren?”
“I…” There was a long silence, and her eyes widened in amazement.
“You don’t remember where you live?!”
“I do! Just, give me a moment…” He frowned, looking deep in thought, before scratching his head. “It’s definitely that way.”
“What the shit, Solas?!”
“What? I was- I haven’t lived there very long. I used to live in a different part of town.” She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment, thinking, before he went on. “I am fairly certain it’s that way.”
“Thanks. Fuck.” She rubbed the bridge of her nose, then put on her blinker and pulled on to the road. “Do you think you can give me directions?” Silence followed. She glanced at him. “Seriously?”
He’d managed to fall asleep, looking extremely comfortable with his head leaning against the seat belt. Fine, he’d have to play by her schedule then. She drove them both back to her apartment on the edge of campus, and parked as close to her door as her parking pass allowed.
“Come on, we’re here.” She stood at his door and looked down at him, hands on her hips. He blinked slowly, roused from his sleep, and looked around.
“Where are we?”
“Home. Now let me help you up.” He protested at first, insisting her could get out himself, but had so much trouble with the seatbelt that she had to half-carry him to his feet. He leaned on her heavily, hugging her to his side and making it difficult for her to walk. She grunted and struggled to carry both him and her backpack, stumbling a bit as she made her way to the door.
Thankfully this area of campus was quiet, and essentially dead on a night like this. She lived with other athletes who took their scholarships very seriously, so her building was silent and they didn’t see anyone on the way up to her room.
But she knew there was evidence of them now. Cameras sat perched in the upper corners of her building’s hallways, accessed only when something suspicious happened. If anyone had reason to think there was something between them, they needed only to find that night and watch the tape.
This wasn’t the time to worry about that, so she tried to put it out of mind.
The floorboards of her apartment creaked so loudly under his heavy, drunken steps that she swore it would rouse her roommates, but she heard nothing as she swiped into her room and helped him on to her bed.
He’d been silent during the entire trip save for a few grunts and burps, but now he looked at her with concern and decided this was a good time to talk. She’d barely closed her door before he weakly grasped her jacket and pulled her close, trying to hug her despite his odd angle. “I do not deserve you,” he mumbled.
“Nobody does,” she sighed, looking down at him. “How are you feeling?”
“Good that I have you.”
Warmth filled her cheeks and she laughed nervously, shaking her head. “What’s got you being so sweet?”
“You.”
“Well, I figured that much.” Tenderness filled her gaze and she gently stroked his face, looking into his glazed grey eyes. “Are you going to remember this in the morning?” She kept her voice soft, in part because her walls were thin, and in part because it just seemed right.
He smiled and relaxed, looking up at her. “Perhaps.”
She leaned down and gave him a kiss, pressing her lips to his, closing her eyes and sinking into the feeling despite the bitter taste of alcohol on him. His heavy arms wound around her back and he brought her close, the kiss more loving than any they’d shared.
She pulled back, smiling, one brow raised. “I’m going to get you some water and something to-”
“I love you, Eirwen.”
Her eyes widened and her blood froze. “I… Um…”
“Shhh…” He drunkenly pressed his finger to her lips, trying to silence her.  His finger squished her mouth, pressing into her teeth awkwardly. “Don’t say anything.” She was fairly certain she couldn’t even if she wanted to. “Do you have any cake?”
“Um… maybe like… some of the really artificial kind?”
“Like a twinkie?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I have one?”
“S-sure…” She swallowed hard and stood slowly, trying to ignore how hard she was shaking. His touch lingered on her back until she pulled away. She made sure to bring her key card with her as she left, and closed the door shut behind her.
She needed to get him water, a bowl to throw up in, and apparently a twinkie. But instead she was frozen, and in a mix of dread and heartache she sank back against the door, pulse pounding, struggling to come up with something to make sense of his words.
She silently prayed he wouldn’t remember in the morning.
