so if the bad kids do the classic, switch to defeat your doppleganger move that happens a lot when facing the rat grinders, I think this is how it should go down. (note this was written last week before ep 18, where they used a lot of their resources) This is a purely hypothetical party vs party combat
Ruben-Fabian or Adaine. Fabian with his eyepatch is immune to fear which a lot of college of whispers does really well, as a half-elf he gets wisdom saving throws on charm which is also the bard's bread and butter. He's a fast fighter bard with spellslots to use basically as smites. so he could really blast down Ruben before things start. Adiane as an elf is another good choice like fabian she has advantage against charm affects and while she is not immune to fear like fabian she has a better wisdom save than he does since she is proficient. I would put Fabian over her though mechanically, and he is also a fan of Ruben's so it would be funny to watch them fight
Ivy- Gorgug. He's not the best option, but he's probably the bad kids best counter to her. as a ranger and fighter, she can do a lot of damage to the others with her range, having to deal with a barbarian who can keep hitting you from range. attacking recklessly would negate a lot of the benefit of Shadowy dodge and as a barbarian he would be able to shrug off most of her ranged attacks. He probably has some artificer item that would let him create a light thing like the solar lasso so she wouldn't always be able to hide in the darkness. For the lesser affects of her arcane arrows and ranger abilities, Gorgug has pretty decent saves, and for the dangerous ones like Banishing Arrow, he can at least use flash of genius on himself to bolster those saves. The Ranger part is kind of lost on me, the spells seems decent but nothing that can really stop Gorgug since he's a barbarian, but could mess up someone else in the party. Ranger spells are decent, but he has a pretty strong counter and I can't see Ivy being higher than level 9 in ranger since it seems like fighter was her base class and it has to split somehow.
Oisin- Fig. As a lore bard/paladin/warlock I think it would be best for her to get into Oisin's face and smite the hell out of him. You can't counterspell a smite. As a wizard he is probably the squishiest member of his party so taking him out would be very important. Additionally, she has counterspell which could leave him in trouble in close range. With Shield, Oisin can have a decent ac so there's that, but he's still a wizard who rolled a d6 each level.
Kipperlily-Kristen. While it surprisingly works president versus president, it also works as a cleric with heavy armor. It's not great as a defense against a high level rogue, but it's better than most of her friends have. Not to mention Kristen can do aoe none dex spells that are good against rogues as they won't get evasion from them. it's not great to have your healer dealing with the parties rogue, but sometimes you don't really have another choice. Lots of dangerous cleric spells don't have a dex saving throw so it could be useful once Kristen can see her
Buddy- Adaine. Not a particularly important match up story wise, it has potential but nothing juicy. still a wizard like adaine wouldn't be the worst match against buddy, spell caster vs spell caster, arcane vs divine. Not to mention I think that Buddy doesn't have a lot of HP and probably isn't expecting a melee wizard like Adaine. Adaine can counterspell Buddy's spells while he can impose disadvantage as a light domain cleric, but Wizards don't just make attack rolls, they have saves. Also I think it would be a good contrast in their thoughts, Buddy believing he doesn't cast spells, that Helio/unnamed rage god works through him to cast spells vs Adaine who as a wizard has learned all of her spells. It's also a good contrast between the Bad Kids and the Rat grinders about the theme of this season, hard work vs taking the easy way out.
Mary-Ann - Riz. This is probably one of the worst match ups, no one wants to go up against a high level barbarian 1v1. This isnt' an anime where the fast sneaky person can just lure the big strong bad guy away and keep them distracted. It's dnd where Mary-Ann might just ignore any physical damage because she can at the start.
I think the key to dealing with Mary-Ann is to not fight her. The Bad girls can get around her barbarian resistances with their spells but will go down in a few hits. Fabian can't do enough damage even with all his attacks, Fandragor doesn't do anything about the damage type Fabian does I believe, it works like smites but just increases the Piercing Damage instead of dealing Radiant damage. Gorgug is another Barbarian, but as cool as his new subclass is, I wouldn't put it up against a full also high level barbarian 1v1. Which leaves Riz
However, I think he's the only one who could survive a few rounds with her, he can keep sneaking with his bonus action, disengage (unless she has sentinel), or misty stepping with the Sword of Shadows to get away from her and out of sight and while she will keep halving any damage he does from sneak attack, it's still a decent chuck that even a high level barbarian can't ignore forever. Leaving Riz who can do a decent amount of damage each turn with his sneak attack and not be close to her, he can also halve one of her three attacks. Riz can also do a lot of tricky stuff as an Arcane trickster, Mary-Ann might be immune to fear and charm affects, but she isn't immune to all illusions and enchantments. He could trick her and keep her busy with his spells, with magical ambush she would be rolling her saves with disadvantage. A smart player like Murph could do a lot with his spell list to a Barbarian.
Now obviously, like I said under Mary-Ann/Riz, dnd is not an anime/show/comic book/etc where you can just switch against your doppleganger and win. I think the Bad Kids would beat the Rat Grinders because they know their shit more and they are a party that genuinely cares for each other so their team work has to be better than the party of their dark mirrors who were literally handed xp to power level. That being said I do think the Bad Kids could take their counterpart in 1v1 (with the exception of Gorgug)
Also with the Preview of the next ep(19) the Bad Kids will have to deal with Jace, a high level Sorcerer, and Porter a legendary Barbarian/Paladin, who are definitely more dangerous than a bunch of high schoolers who never really had to fight another party.
Still this was just fun to think about. If you have any thoughts let me know. If you think of your own matchups that you want to discuss also let me know.

Hal Jordan Reading List
Tumblr media
Hal Jordan is a man of many names and many legends. He was once the Green Lanterns' best and brightest. His name and legend is written into the stars. He fell, brilliantly and terribly. He rose again as the Spirit of Vengeance, the Spirit of Redemption! He returns in the end to his place among the Green Lanterns. But to truly know the man, you must read the stories.
Most important stories are bolded and my favorites are asterisked
Origin Stories
Some of these repeat, not all are necessary but I advise reading at least Emerald Dawn/Emerald Dawn II or Secret Origins or Showcase #22
Emerald Dawn (1990), first appearance of the Martin Jordan backstory
Emerald Dawn II (1991)*, Hal is trained by Sinestro for the first time
Secret Origins (Green Lantern (2005) #29-35), Geoff Johns’ version of Hal’s backstory if reading modern Hal stuff, its important
Showcase #22*, what actually started it all
Superman: Man of Steel Annual #4*, Hal meets Clark for the first time
Secret Origins (1986) #36, Hal retells his origin to a new friend (set post Action Comics (1938) #606)
One Shots
Green Lantern Secret Files (2004) #1 “Flight”, three flights in Hal Jordan’s life*
Justice League: The Darkseid War - Green Lantern #1, Hal becomes a God and gives it up*
Green Lantern 80th Anniversary, a tribute to the Green Lanterns across the ages* (Skip Geoff’s story. You’ll thank me. Four should be read after Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #35.)

The Flash (1959) backup stories: #217-#219, #226
Hal’s solo backups in The Flash (1959)

Green Lantern (1960) #181, Hal quits

Green Lantern Corps (1986) (might be under Green Lantern (1960) depending on website) #220-224, Sinestro is executed (warning, this is part of Englehart glc and thus includes small references to hal/arisia, that relationship is out of character for everyone involved and I don't support it, but these issues are otherwise good)

Green Arrow (1988) #20, Hal goes and helps Ollie once again*
Secret Origins (1986) #50, Hal and Ollie make up from their fight (last story, only)

What would miles quaritch team mates and himself see and do if Y/N gets hurt/almost captured? (Y/N human or na'vi it's your choice and keep up the work love it!)
Please read before interacting.
Thank you so much!! I love this idea. Since you specified Quaritch, I'm going to write this as Y/N is a bit closer to him rather than the rest. (You can read it as romantic or platonic.) Y/N is the team's lil human baby and must be protected at all costs. Also, thank you for your patience!
Tumblr media
You sprinted through the forest, breath coming out in sharp gasps. Your heart pounded in your ears as you fought the panic rising but continued pumping your legs, determined to get away. Your thoughts stampeded through your mind as you started to regret ever even coming out on the mission. 'Map the land,' your boss had said. 'You'll be safe,' they had said. They had neglected to tell you about the young Na'vi hunters that would spot you and chase you through the brush.
You'd ended up separated from the recoms during the skirmish. They tried to circle around you, but were being attacked through all sides and their formation had been split by the hunters, so you started running to hide. No way in hell you'd be able to defend yourself against them. A hunter had broken off and sprinted off after you, bow raised. You felt a sharp pain in your arm and looked down to see your bicep bleeding freely, cut by an arrow.
Your hand flew up to cover the injury and you clenched your teeth, pressing forward. You passed through a clearing, eyes scanning for a hiding spot. You dove through a cluster of plants, scrambling to hide under a tangle of roots. You pressed your back as close as you could to the tree, hearing footsteps creeping through the plants you'd just burst through. You pressed your face to your knees, hiding the glare of the breathing mask from your pursuer.
You took shallow breaths, trying to keep as quiet as possible. They looked around, eyes searching for you when they were tackled from behind. You jolted, glancing up and seeing a flash of camo as the hulking body of a recom covered the hunter's. The soldier threw a punch into the face of the hunter and you whimpered.
An ear swiveled to you and the soldier glanced back, so you could see it was Prager. His brows furrowed and he growled when he felt a punch land in his solar plexus. He pulled his knife and slashed the hunter's leg, shoving them away. They scrambled to their feet, palm clutched over the cut and stumbled away through the brush.
Prager maintained a fighting stance for a moment assessing the area before he turned to you and reached in to pull you out. Once he'd tugged you free from the roots and brushed the stray soil off of you, he frowned, thumping you lightly on the mask over your forehead. "What happened to staying by the group?"
"Well! I was being chased! What did you expect me to do?"
The lines at the corners of his mouth deepened. "Stay. By. The. Group."
You rolled your eyes and mumbled. "Fine, I'll remember that for next time." You trudged after him and through the brush, shocked at how much ground you'd managed to cover in your run.
"I've got her!" He called out ahead.
When you broke through the last bit of flora, the recoms heaved a collective sigh. You looked for Miles and when your eyes finally landed on him, he wouldn't meet your gaze. Your heart shriveled in your chest, but lightened when you felt a hand on your shoulder.
Brown squeezed lightly. "You had us worried, kid."
You ducked your head, shamefaced, mumbling, "Sorry."
Hands started tugging at your arm, a sharp sting settling in your skin from the antiseptic. "Johnny, I swear I'm okay!"
The medic gave you a flat look and wiggled your arm around. You winced as pain shot through. His lip quirked up, "Yeah, clearly peachy. Hold still." He cut through your shirt and opened it up enough to bandage your arm, tying it tightly.
You sighed, peaceful for just a moment before being swept up and held in a fireman's carry over Lyle's back. You swatted weakly at his shoulder with your injured arm, whining. "Put me downnnn."
He looked back at you and gave you a withering look. "You really scared him, you know."
"I didn't mean to.."
"Well, you did! I- sorry I shouldn't yell. I know this isn't really something you're familiar with, but you can't go running off like that. We can't protect you if you go too far away. You should talk to him when we get back."
~~~
The ride back to Bridgehead was quiet. The sky was getting dark and you slumped against Z-dog's shoulder, eventually falling asleep and snoring lightly. When the helicopter landed, you were jostled awake and swiveled your head, eyes honing in on Miles' back as he was first off and moving away faster than you could catch up.
You hauled your pack up with your working arm and sped off as fast as you could. Yanking off your mask once you got inside, you saw a blue tail whip around the corner. A door slammed down the hallway, causing you to flinch and brace yourself for the conversation that needed to happen. When you made it to his office, you knocked lightly. No answer. You pushed the door open and saw him sitting behind his desk.
"Miles."
He refused to look up at you, but you saw his ears flinch at your voice.
"Miles," you said softly. "Miles, I'm sorry. It was dumb of me to run off like that."
"Hell yes it was!" You shrank back from his raised voice and tears began to form in your eyes.
He sighed, taking a breath from the respirator around his neck. His hands rubbed down his face as he let out a deeper groan of annoyance. "C'mere." He held out a hand and you circled around the desk, placing yours in his.
He squeezed lightly before looking at you. "You just can't do that. Scared the shit outta me." He chuckled awkwardly before ruffling your hair. "Stay by me next time."
Putting the drabble(?) under a read-more because I don't feel so confident in this one. This was just supposed to be an excuse and vehicle for the solar eclipse and the Pilgrim's Bells ringing so if all the other parts sound jank, that is why!
I apologize for this 😭
The sun blinks.
Hilmes stills.
The sun shines unwaveringly, bright and blinding. Clouds may block it, mist may dim it, and the skies may bring it to rest every dusk.
But the sun does not blink.
It goes against every common sense, the very nature of the sun, but—
It blinks, now.
It blinks and blinks, dims and lights up and dims again like a star, the rays almost blinding in contrast when the light returns.
Until it doesn't.
From the sky, vanish the sun's light.
The air turns cold, and shadows dance around them, like a heat haze, like a mirage, and the malformed creatures halt to look at them. As if captured. As if mesmerized.
Zahhak halts.
The moon, realizes Hilmes. It's the moon, the moon devouring the sun, the moon granting them a boon. A celestial of the night, entering the sun's domain.
The sky children.
He looks at the sword in his hand. Glowing silver, starlight on the earth.
Rukhnabad was forged from a fallen star.
He can move again, he finds. Where before he and his army were frozen by the Serpent King's snare, the moon has lifted the pressure from their mortal bodies— it drops like a rock, and in turn the lack of weight lifts them up.
He feels light. He feels as though he could float away.
He raises the sword, Rukhnabad, jabs it upwards to the sky like a beacon, a guiding light, a breath of hope in place of the sun.
“Hark ye, mages and riders!” he cries out, his voice returning to him at last. “Arise, arise! The wretched snake's curse has lifted!”
A collective cry answers him, relief and hope blends one voice to the other until he can no longer tell which voice was whose, and how many there remained.
It is fine. It's enough.
“Endure, we must! Prevail, we must! Zahhak has been defeated once, he will be brought down once again! By us, by our hands!”
He thinks of Kaykhusraw. The hero-king. The slave. The traitor.
His ancestor.
“And we have with us, what the hero king never did! The key to end this, once and for all!” More like what he foolishly threw away, but this is not the place to say it. I won't do it, he swears to himself. I will not selfishly discard what should be dear to me. Zandeh and Irina flash in his mind at once, but also Kharlan and Saam and Bahman, his followers, his men, all of them, even the ones whose names he knows not.
The mages.
The little bird.
Areyan.
“Remember your brother and sisters. Remember that aid is coming.”
The sound of bells shall reverberate, sang to him the old crone, Break the heavens like dawn over the mountains.
“The promise shall be fulfilled…” The promise of victory, no doubt they would think, there is that too, but his mind dwells on the promise of freedom.
The promise Kaykhusraw broke.
And true tomorrow shall arrive again.
“But for that—” He points Rukhnabad forward, lightning trailing behind it in a dance, casting the shifting shadows in a starker light. “For that we must fulfill our role. Remember! Remember what it is that we set out to do! Remember the work that needs to be done!”
There's so much. There's so much to be done. Here and now, against Zahhak the Serpent King, but also beyond that, beyond everything, even when peace is restored.
The work will be never-ending.
He can't wait to get to it.
He can't help the feral grin that graces his lips.
The sun starts to blink again. The eclipse is about to end.
They need to act fast.
“Loose the arrows! Clear a path so that the second squad can bind Zahhak. We must hold on until—”
That is when the bells ring.
The song, it comes from beyond the horizon, from the east, west, north, and south, around them, all around them, filling the air and overlapping, amplifying each other until naught could be heard over them—
The sky laughs and laughs and laughs.
Like an echo, like light, like dawn breaking over the mountain peaks and thunder in a storm, ripples spreading across still-waters, the swaying of trees in the strong winds.
Like the world comes alive, like all spirits were a single soul made solid.
“Now, now!”
The mass of people spring into action. People, and spirits too. He feels them. They rush through them, past them, wading through the army of men as though they too were part of the charge, all the while the earth trembles and shakes beneath their feet and the sun flick-flick-flickers above in the sky.
And the sound of bells would not stop. He can scarcely hear his men's voice above it, can scarcely hear his own heart.
Well, that is fine.
He is not alone, that much he can tell.
Everyone is here. Even the ones he had sent away to find what had been lost.
They may not be here in flesh, in these plains where the battle takes place, but…
Undoubtedly, they are present nonetheless.
He loses himself in the ever-rising song as he rides forth, and drives the treasured sword in Zahhak's chest as ghosts unseen rend him asunder.
And then all is white.
The darkness is no more.
I’m back on my MHA bullshit so I’m going to create quirks for the seisho girls because I’m high key obsessed with them.
Hikari’s would definitely have something to do with light so I was thinking basic light manipulation where she can like solidify light and do stuff like sting from fairy tail but on a lower scale. It would be called Refraction.
Junna shoots lasers. That’s it. It’s called SharpShooting . It also gives her amazing accuracy because she’s junna and deserves it.
Futaba’s is simple earth bending but we’ll call it Pillar for the aesthetic.
Kaoruko’s quirk is Incense and it’s like midnights but she can release it on command and it can have different effects and properties.
Mahiru can just hear stuff up like the sun she is. It’s called Solar Conversion. Kinda works like pokemon’s solar beam where she absorbs energy from the sun and use that energy to heat shit up. It sounds weak but it can be utilised in many different ways if a person is skilled enough and I feel like that fits Mahiru.
Maya shoots fire arrows. It’s like Roy mustangs flame alchemy. It’s called Flash Fire
Claudine idk she can control air density or something idk I just wanted it to be a quirk that can mess with Maya’s but enhance it if they work together in a certain way.
Karen’s quirk is called Comet or Shooting Star she can summon hot ice. Like it has all the properties of ice but it’s hot. Hot hot. She can make it explode as a treat but only on a small scale like a tiny star.
↳ @familylightfox asked: Harmony had come back just the next day. In her hands was what looked like a mason jar, but there was a toggle switch on the top. Oh how bright her grin was as she set it down in front of Lyra and flicked the switch. It started out as one, then two, and so on until it looked like the entire jar was filled with flickering fireflies. She grinned and looked to her aunt and uncle with a wag of her tail. “I asked Buddy t’ make her something she can use as a nightlight. Ain’t it cool? ‘S even solar powered so ya ain’t gotta worry ‘bout batteries.”
   {➹} – THE SMALL FAMILY had hardly blinked when Harmony came strolling in, they had an open-door policy (for the most part) after all and it was specifically so family and friends could come and go as they pleased. Lyra, as usual, was happy to see her cousin, babbling her usual hello from her father's lap before the jar was deemed far more interesting. She meant no offense of course.
But just like before the small family's attention had been captured by the lights (and somewhere in the back of his head Arrow knew there was a joke to be made there) but it was clear the gift was well-received when Lyra smiled and tried, and failed, to touch the small lights.
She then settled for poking the glass, pointing to each little light in wonderment. "Pretty, pretty..."
It made her parents laugh and they had a feeling she would be occupied for the next few minutes, at least. Enough time for the hedgehog to look at Harmony and flash a wink. "It's perfect, Squirt. And tell Buddy thanks."
How do spells work ? Are they created by the magis themselves or do they change with each transformation ?
Spells at the start are mostly intuitive but over time they become specifically honed by each magi! While they never come up in the AU much I gave each Winx roughly 6 spells from the very start with each transformation starting from Enchantix adding one. Some spells are exclusive to the transformation and some are added into their general pool forever. Below is a copypasted list of the basic spells I've thought of so far for each Winx! The spells gained with other transformations are in the respective transformation post as the alt text for their designs.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ━━ ✦ ❝ 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐋. ❞ uttered soft, purred reverberation, drowned complacent as is nature. Hunched broad on haunches at his own altar, his body the temple to all-consuming religion, cult overgrown like stone bulbs in the darkness. Feet pressed toe to heel against the body, spread to the span of shoulders, sitting mighty on the edge of miracles. Flowered plenty in rose gold, shining, ashen bloomed explosions in a starlight-bright supernova.
𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐒𝐔𝐍    :  𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒔.
FULL NAME :          Sukuna Ryomen.
TITILES :          THE DEMON LORD OF WRATH.
NICKNAMES :          Mutt, Dog, Hellhound, Puppy.
SPECIES :          Demon.
MORALITY :      chaotic neutral.
SINS :      lust / greed / gluttony / sloth / pride / envy / wrath.
VIRTUES :      chastity / charity / diligence / humility / kindness / patience / justice.
GOALS :      to keep Morsmonte unoccupied by those he did not approve of.
SECRETS :      He was sacrificed to the darkness for the life of the Empire’s heir.
𝐖𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐇  𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑  :  𝒑𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍.
Toting two broad, black, ram horns decorated in stone bulbs and flowers, onyx, and garnets, strung up by small black pearls. smaller red horns formed around his hairline like an infernal crown, cloaked at the top edge with burning bedlam. With an overall appearance more like a mixture between the one gained through his possession of Yuji and his original one, Sukuna’s eyes are a very pale, powder blue.
𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐓  𝐒𝐔𝐍  𝐒𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑   :  𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔.
SUN EATER.        shown by the ability to create a sun with a golden ring around darkness, the power is held in the plasma rings. Known as Coronakinesis, The users can shape, create and manipulate corona plasm, a type of plasma that surrounds the Sun and other celestial bodies and extends millions of kilometers into space, and is most easily seen during a total solar eclipse. The sun's corona is much hotter than the visible surface of the Sun.
DESTINY.        condensed ionized energy crushed in a vacuum to form an arrow at the point of his finger, a construct that can pierce the hardest of carapaces, cauterize wounds, and set the body ablaze when used in rapid succession.
BLACK HOLE SUN.        forming a blackened sun large enough to block an area off of natural sunlight empowers him to blaze brighter in the shadow cast overhead. A side effect is a crushing gravity formed around it as a natural defense against would-be attackers. The longer it is left to absorb the energy of the sun at its back, the more pressure it exerts.
RAMPAGE FORM ONE.         Growing several hundred feet tall, muscles bulging, puffing up like a peacock, he engorges on the energy fed to him by his artificially created eclipse. this form is by far the most violent. Taking on a more animal appearance, cattle skull forming over his head and standing on two cloven hooves. His control whites out to a simple chant of rage. Shown firing plasma beams from his flaming maw.
RAMPAGE FORM TWO.         Condensing his form to a much more manageable level, he retains his mind and keeps a more human form to him. Growing an extra set of arms for a total of six that continually pull in and eat his black hole sun.
CORONAE.         Forming a ring of smaller black hole suns of varying sizes, each can shoot small beams of plasma. having much smaller, but more tightly packed gravity means throwing them results in a sharp tug in their direction. As a result, they are best used to throw off trajectory at the right time of attacks. by absorbing an opponent's attacks, reversing gravity results in releasing a weaker beam of the same element ( unless the attacks are fire ).
CORONOVA.         Black Hole Suns can be detonated like bombs, releasing energy in a flash of flames and heat.
WORLD METOR.         Electromagnetic fields generated by his suns, metal can be attracted and repelled. by releasing his spears, he can attract them to gravitate around a mid-sized sun and be repelled in a continued circuit of attracting and repelling in rapid succession by his coronae. Cannot effect weapons made of alloys or purely made of a material that has no magnetic properties.
𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋  𝐉𝐔𝐃𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓    :  𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒚.
The Empire practiced middle names given to them by the priestess of Elphine ( elf-een ) to those with the coin to be bestowed the name that would shape their fate and grant favor in the eyes of their gods — to the god that chose them. Only the royal family held the sight of the gods to receive more than one divine middle name. The eldest prince, Kichiro Obrimos Enyalios Okabe-Tsuchiya, mighty and warlike in tribute to the god of war that claimed the Okabe.
The Okabe family was a martial ducal second to none save the king and one other family of higher standing. This family held an unbroken line of distinguished generals and made up more than ⅔ the kingdom's army. In times of war, they were known as the sword that cut down the empire's enemies. A fancy way of saying they were the force that gave the Emperor, Masashi, the teeth he used to bare at and conquer his neighbors. No one would be wholly surprised if the reason he had even married the current empress was to keep that warmongering family tied to his side by blood rather than oaths.
No one in the Empire ever kept to their word or their oath. They spoke so much utter nonsense they forgot their words far too easily. Those that had trusted Masashi always ended up with a sword in their back, because Masashi was greedy by nature. And Kichiro helped him with a bloodthirsty glee hitherto unheard of in the people of the golden isles and their avarice.
Once born as servants to the fifth prince Noboru Clytometis Onishi-Tsuchiya ( blessed with only a single name and claimed by the forge god ), they were abhorred, squirreled away at the edge of the kingdom from prying eyes far north. They were rumored to be cast out from the royal capital by their own noble father for being hideous and monstrous ( false, they held no noble blood in their veins ). If Kichiro's family was the sword of the empire, then the Onishi dukedom was its shield.
The Onishi were a special case in the empire. Once kings of yore to the now demon infested and cold lands to the north, the Onishi dukedom was formed of an unbreakable alliance sworn on the river Colchis and written in blood between this empire and the kingdom of the north. Slowly the distance between the two kingdoms has grown even more massive and the territory that had belonged to the northern kingdom fell under the Empire's control until the king's of Onishi became vassal kings under the Tsuchiya. Masashi married the high queen Hanako to keep this massive territory under his control.
The only reason the fifth prince was a Duke rather than a king was that he had not been recognized by his maternal grandfather and granted the title king by his father. He may have had an army independent of the Empire's and vast in composition, but they were constantly defending the realm from both human and demonic threats. The man had no time at all to leave the people of Valendrei alone to fight the harsh winter and play devil's advocate against his enemies, even if it would give him an edge even his brother couldn't walk all over so easily.
He had no time to find someone that could help him any. He had very few allies and even fewer would send their sons or daughters to the dreary north to marry him either. Just the right name as his fiancée would be the catalyst he would need to claim even further than just a vassal king, he'd be a high king whose power and title would be formed naturally ( therefore, it couldn't be taken or demoted even by the Emperor himself ). These factors were ready enough to see the fifth prince to High Kingship, but...for some reason, he'd quietly left the capital and hasn't returned but a scant few times.
As close as the two twins were to Noboru, it meant they accompanied the prince to receive his name from the priestess. It was no accident that the twins received three very old, very forgotten names. Obsidianus Khthonios Soter, the black savior of the underworld, claimed by the Ebon God ( creator god of darkness & winter to his family's people ). An ominous name despite the savior, the empire thought. To have received just one was dangerous, they were pulled into a game of 'let's dethrone the royal family. The nobles wanted to enthrone them and murder them to get more appealing rulers. Stolen by the Okabe in the dead of night, they were sacrificed in the name of the first prince in the hopes to grant him another name to bolster his claim to the empire.
Claimed by the Ebon, the sacrifice caused him to stretch forth his hand to both deny the Okabe another name and allow the twins their one wish: to be together forever. Formed of a shared desire for wrath, and vengeance, they were thrown into the primordial demonic ooze and spit back out as a Demon of wrath. The only command written on his soul was to reclaim Valendrei from the interlopers after betraying his chosen people. Sukuna descended on the few towns and cities to clear away the citizens of the empire with extreme prejudice. After his rampages, the area was surrounded by an eternal, freezing cold that allowed neither travel into nor travel out of the area. Renamed Morsmonte by the beastmen, demons, and the Ebon gods chose, It was said to be exceedingly beautiful despite the strife it faced in the form of eternal cold and winter. Having withstood siege after siege after fighting so hard for a cruel, cold empire, they found that life under Sukuna was oddly very peaceful.
Despite having no prior memories, Noboru was spared by Sukuna for his maternal lineage and has been crafting Morsmonte's tech and weaponry for the kingdom while providing the newly appointed king advice. Advice that is typically ignored in favor of lounging. Sukuna has made it no secret that he only cared to protect the kingdom rather than govern it, a sentiment that is hardly respected by his advisors and council. As the only demon that held territory not in the demon world, his kingdom often encroached upon by demons ranging from middle-class to higher demons. Recognized as a demon lord level demon, it was formalized fairly quickly after decimating a former demon lord.
VALORANT Agent: SPARK (to be updated)
SPARK
CODENAME: Glint
FULL NAME (tentative): Mony "Lumine" Chan
CLASS: Radiant
ROLE: Initiator
AGE: 20/21
DESCRIPTION:
Spark is a carefree, lighthearted joker descending from Cambodia, raised in the U.S. She prefers and insists on being called 'Lumine', after a mix-up of her real name, 'Mony' as 'Lumi'. Also because she thinks it's cooler. And also because she has luminescent radiant powers. Her jokey insults can be harsh at times, but always remember she means none of it. (probably doesn't even remember half of what she says either...)
While Lumine tries her best to come off as confident and outgoing, often times she prefers to finish missions along the safer path. Only if she receives motivation from her teammates will the have the spirit to go out and fight. Back at base, she is very comfortable with most agents in the protocol, unafraid to make snarky comments at them.
Because of the flashy nature of her powers, Lumine often has to remind her team to beware of being near her. One flash too powerful might temporarily cause you to lose your vision, or even worse, permanently. She likes to joke about being a 'solar-powered agent', but this isn't completely false. Her radiance pulls from all natural light sources from the Sun and Earth.
Tumblr media
ABILITIES: Spark uses light-based powers (don't ask me how it's the same situation as Chamber's magic TP), focusing on distorting her enemies' vision, and gathering information from AOE abilities.
Basic C: Fume
EQUIP a bottle filled with a mysterious sparkly concoction. PRESS the ability to throw the bottle, exploding into a misty fog that temporarily blocks vision. ALTERNATE FIRE to throw at close range. Fog lasts for 8 seconds. Enemies stepping into the fog will have their shields decayed to 0 at 10 shield points per second.
Basic Q: Say Cheese!
EQUIP an orb of light. FIRE to throw the orb, immediately blinding anyone in the line of sight. ALTERNATE FIRE to throw at a close range.
Signature E: Light Sees All
EQUIP a light-filled arrow. FIRE to throw. The arrow sticks to the surface it hits, winds up, and explodes. Upon explosion, enemies' screens are quickly blinded and have their locations revealed. The more enemies revealed, the longer the effect stays (max 10 seconds, 2 seconds per enemy revealed). If killed while having enemies' locations revealed, the effect will immediately fade away.
Ultimate: Time To Shine
ACTIVATE to equip two light-powered heavy pistols. Each heavy pistol contains 5 bullets. ALT FIRE to fire 2 bullets at once, one from each pistol. Each kill from 'Time To Shine' recharges 2 bullets. Upon activation, Spark's movement and fire speed are slightly increased. If 'Light Sees All' is activated and reveals enemies during ultimate, the screen receives greater contrast and contrasts enemies brighter.
I wish some of the superfluous side plots of Supergirl's season one had been dropped in favor of giving some more focus to Astra and Non's plan with Myriad. They had a few focus episodes here and there, but then seemed to disappear from view a lot. It's probably because it was being run by a different studio from Flash and Arrow, but the first season had some cohesion issues with the overarching main plot that the other two shows didn't have.
Arrow's season one never lost focus on the List and the revelation of the Undertaking. The Flash had Eobard Thawne's plan as a simmering menace throughout the whole season. But there are large portions of S1 Supergirl where it would be easy to forget that Astra and Non are even there. And even episodes that focus on Fort Rozz escapees feel disconnected from the over arching plot with the Kryptonians.
If indigo had shown up sooner, perhaps, then there could have been some interesting tension between her and Astra due to Indigo blatantly flirting with Non. If Non had more follow through on his threat to kill Kara should she prove a deadly weakness to Astra after all would have been a good plot to have capitalized on... but it doesn't really go anywhere. Sure, he sics Alex on Kara using Myriad, but that was more about tormenting Alex for Astra's death then about Kara herself. If we got to see more of the Kryptonians who weren't Kara, Astra, and Non...
That said, there's a lot of call backs in the final episodes of season 1 as Kara puts the lessons she's learned over the course of the season to good use. She's able to burn out Non's eyes in a heat vision battle without solar flaring the way she did with Red Tornado, she's learned from trial and (oil spilling) error how to move large objects (such as Fort Rozz) without breaking it up into pieces/making it more difficult to move, and truly embraces her ability to become a beacon of hope for others.
As choppy and uneven as S1 could be at times (having a couple of episodes clearly out of order in the first half of the season did not help) I really enjoyed rewatching it. And there's definitely a few things that the show suffered for losing in the soft reboot it got in season 2 when it switched stations. Lucy Lane completely disappears despite her high ranking position within the DEO and we never see Maxwell Lord or Sam Lane again either despite the forshadowing of them and the Kryptonian power sphere. While Lucy and Sam eventually show up in Superman & Lois, they're very different people from their S1 Supergirl counterparts. As for Maxwell? I maintain that it would have been interesting to have Maxwell Lord return as a red herring before revealing Lex Luthor as a villain where Red Daughter was concerned - considering what Maxwell did to create Bizarro Supergirl it wouldn't have been a stretch for Kara and the others to believe that he was trying again and also I'd have loved to watch Lena verbally eviscerate him. He was also a bit of a Lex Luthor stand in during S1, so lamp shading that a bit with the actual Luthors could have been amusing, especially if he was repudiating his former stance on Kara being inherently a danger for being an alien.
Zonai clothing sets
These armor sets, when worn by their corresponding dragon spirit sage, also have extra abilities.
the canons
Dinraal – Ember set. In hot sun, the wearer's attacks and spells will emit fire, potentially damaging opponents and catching them aflame. Flamewreathed bonus ability: Rebirth in Fire. When worn by a Flamewreathed sage, if the wearer is reduced to no health remaining, they arise to their feet at full health, like a phoenix rising from the ashes of its own blazing corpse.
Naydra – Frostbite set. In freezing conditions, the wearer's attacks and spells will emit frost, potentially damaging opponents and freezing them. Frostclad bonus ability: Frozen Duplicity. When worn by a Frostclad sage, the wearer can create a duplicate of themself of ice. This duplicate can move and act (and attack and cast spells), but cannot speak, and it is plainly made of ice and water. It is commanded by a telepathic link to the wearer.
Farosh – Charged set. In thunderstorms, the wearer's attacks and spells will emit electric sparks, potentially damaging opponents and shocking them. Stormborne bonus ability: From Lightning, Life. When worn by a Stormborne sage, the wearer can revive the recently deceased (no more than 8 hours dead). The target cannot have died of old age, nor can this feature restore any missing body parts, and it fails if the target is missing body parts that are critical for life such as a heart or a head.
the blog specials
Hylanas – Mirror set. In bright light, the wearer's attacks and spells will cause dazzling flashes of light, potentially blinding opponents. Lightbearer bonus ability: Solar Spear. When worn by a Lightbearer sage, the wearer can create beams of brilliant light that blast out in a line, damaging anything in its path by burning it with radiant energy and blinding it.
Sirredes – Shade set. In dimly lit areas, the wearer's charged attacks and spells will create shielding patches of darkness that opponents cannot see through, breaking lines of sight. Additionally, nothing can pass through these patches except the wearer who created them (or a shadowtouched sage). Shadowtouched bonus ability: Shields of Shade. When worn by a Shadowtouched sage, the wearer can create patches of solid darkness at will that only they can see through and enter. The wearer can also designate other creatures that can see through and enter the darkness created by this ability.
Morcanta – Lunar set. Under nights when the moon is visible and lit (does not function during a new moon), the wearer's spells will burst with magic and, according to the phase of the moon, have a different effect. Waxing Crescent: Allows the caster to cast spells without gesturing or speaking (No verbal or somatic components). First Quarter: Allows the caster's spells to automatically seek targets, as if attaching a monster's eye to an arrow. Waxing Gibbous: Allows the caster to change the elemental effects of their spells– for example, turning fire into ice. Full: The caster's spell hits all become critical hits. (Also works on 'saving throw' kinds of things, for D&D-minded folks.) Waning Gibbous: Halves the caster's casting time for any spell. Third Quarter: Allows a caster to protect any number of creatures from a spell that would otherwise target them. Best for AoE effects. Waning Crescent: Allows a caster to double the physical range or duration of their spells. Eclipse: Allows a caster to cast a spell twice with one casting, creating a 'twinned' version of the spell. Blood Moon: The caster's magic becomes afflicted with gloom. All targets hit by the caster's magic suffer gloom affliction, even monsters. Feymarked bonus ability: Total Control. When worn by a Feymarked sage, the wearer can use any of the Lunar set's abilities (excluding the blood moon phase) regardless of the moon's phase, at will.
Vallai – Blustery set. In windy conditions (such as a storm), the wearer's attacks and spells will create forceful gusts of wind that can blow enemies off their feet. Galerisen bonus ability: Wingless Flight. When worn by a Galerisen sage, the wearer can summon the wind itself to bear their body aloft, granting a flying speed that requires no wings, and the wearer can hover. (Also useful for a Rito, because then their wings can do hand things!)
Edit bonus for giggles:
Time Dragon – Clockwork set. When nearby a significant source of gloom, the wearer can use either Recall or Stasis (as in, the shiekah slate rune Stasis) at will. [REDACTED] bonus ability: Allows limited time travel (up to a week away from when you belong).
Multiple Spacecraft Tell the Story of One Giant Solar Storm - Technology Org
April 17, 2021, was a day like any other day on the Sun until a brilliant flash erupted, and an enormous cloud of solar material billowed away from our star. Such outbursts from the Sun are not unusual, but this one was unusually widespread. It hurled high-speed protons and electrons at velocities nearing the speed of light and struck several spacecraft across the inner solar system.
In fact, it was the first time such high-speed protons and electrons – called solar energetic particles (SEPs) – were observed by spacecraft at five different, well-separated locations between the Sun and Earth and by spacecraft orbiting Mars. And now these diverse perspectives on the solar storm reveal that different types of potentially dangerous SEPs can be blasted into space by different solar phenomena and in different directions, causing them to become widespread.
On April 17, 2021, one of the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) spacecraft captured this view of a coronal mass ejection billowing away from the Sun (which is covered by the black disk at center to better see features around it). Learn more. Image credit: NASA/STEREO-A/COR2
“SEPs can harm our technology, such as satellites, and disrupt GPS,” said Nina Dresing of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Turku in Finland. “Also, humans in space or even on airplanes on polar routes can suffer harmful radiation during strong SEP events.”
Scientists like Dresing are eager to find out where these particles come from exactly – and what propels them to such high speeds – to better learn how to protect people and technology in harm’s way. Dresing led a team of scientists that analyzed what kinds of particles struck each spacecraft and when. The team published its results in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.
Currently on its way to Mercury, the BepiColombo spacecraft, a joint mission of ESA (the European Space Agency) and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), was closest to the blast’s direct firing line and was pounded with the most intense particles. At the same time, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe and ESA’s Solar Orbiter were on opposite sides of the flare, but Parker Solar Probe was closer to the Sun, so it took a harder hit than Solar Orbiter did. Next in line was one of NASA’s two Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) spacecraft, STEREO-A, followed by the NASA/ESA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) and NASA’s Wind spacecraft, which were closer to Earth and well away from the blast. Orbiting Mars, NASA’s MAVEN and ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft were the last to sense particles from the event.
This diagram shows the positions of individual spacecraft, as well as Earth and Mars, during the solar outburst on April 17, 2021. The Sun is at the center. The black arrow shows the direction of the initial solar flare. Several spacecraft detected solar energetic particles (SEPs) over 210 degrees around the Sun (blue shaded area). Altogether, the particles were detected over 210 longitudinal degrees of space (almost two-thirds of the way around the Sun) – which is a much wider angle than typically covered by solar outbursts. Plus, each spacecraft recorded a different flood of electrons and protons at its location. The differences in the arrival and characteristics of the particles recorded by the various spacecraft helped the scientists piece together when and under what conditions the SEPs were ejected into space.
These clues suggested to Dresing’s team that the SEPs were not blasted out by a single source all at once but propelled in different directions and at different times potentially by different types of solar eruptions.
“Multiple sources are likely contributing to this event, explaining its wide distribution,” said team member Georgia de Nolfo, a heliophysics research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. “Also, it appears that, for this event, protons and electrons may come from different sources.”
The team concluded that the electrons were likely driven into space quickly by the initial flash of light – a solar flare – while the protons were pushed along more slowly, likely by a shock wave from the cloud of solar material, or coronal mass ejection.
“This is not the first time that people have conjectured that electrons and protons have had different sources for their acceleration,” de Nolfo said. “This measurement was unique in that the multiple perspectives enabled scientists to separate the different processes better, to confirm that electrons and protons may originate from different processes.”
In addition to the flare and coronal mass ejection, spacecraft recorded four groups of radio bursts from the Sun during the event, which four different particle blasts in different directions could have accompanied. This observation could help explain how the particles became so widespread.
“We had different distinct particle injection episodes – which went into significantly different directions – all contributing together to the widespread nature of the event,” Dresing said.
“This event was able to show how important multiple perspectives are in untangling the complexity of the event,” de Nolfo said.
These results show the promise of future NASA heliophysics missions that will use multiple spacecraft to study widespread phenomena, such as the Geospace Dynamics Constellation (GDC), SunRISE, PUNCH, and HelioSwarm. While single spacecraft can reveal conditions locally, multiple spacecraft orbiting in different locations provide deeper scientific insight and offer a more complete picture of what’s happening in space and around our home planet.
