Partially he chalked it up to forgetfulness, but it wouldn't stop him from playing with them while his hubby was resting his head in his lap. "I guess they're not too annoyin', huh?"

{➹} – THE HYBRID'S ASSUMPTION wasn't entirely wrong given that the clips were still a relatively new part of the hero's attire and thus not something he was used to taking off every night. Unlike the rest of his wardrobe the clips were small, out of the way and barely noticeable to him so they had joined the hero's communicator in being the only thing worn at night more often than not.

Which counted for the small surprise on his face as he looked up at his partner, only to realize what they were getting at when the clips were toyed with. With scarred fingers reaching up to graze over them he let out a slightly sheepish chuckle.

"T' be honest half the time I forget they're even there." Which said something given that his ears could be sensitive at times, nowhere near what his partner's were but a thoughtful expression came over Arrow's face a moment later as he looked at the earrings the hybrid had. "What's it like getting your ears pierced...?"

↳ @familylightfox asked: Despite the fact that they were taking time to think things over, Volt continued his routine of making them tea. Now he was much more careful moving about the kitchen, and just about everywhere in the house, with keeping his wings out of the way. The tea cup was set on the table in his partner’s office before he went to head back downstairs and make a cup for himself.

    {➹} – IT WAS A BITTERSWEET thing. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, what had happened had managed to silence the noise in the hero's head. There was no more thumping, no odd sounds that he couldn't place beyond that. Yet, at the same time, it had caused his thoughts to run haywire, for his mind to be filled with something else entirely.

A big part of it all was what to say to his partner. They couldn't stay like this, he knew neither of them wanted to stay like this, but he was at a loss. He could still feel something in the pit in his stomach, and he didn't know if it was residual irritation or something else entirely.

What he did know was that sitting in that room was getting him nowhere. And he imagined it was quite a sight for his partner as they opened the door, letting light stream in again which took the hedgehog by surprise for two reasons. The fact that he had been apparently sitting in the dark at all when he could see perfectly fine, and the cup that had been set down.

Set down and stared at as the hybrid made their way out of the room once more. The hero could feel his lips quirk, and in that second he had made up his mind and looked back to the door.

"Volt....?" His voice, hopefully, traveled down the hall before his partner got too far.

     {➹} – THIS WAS...UNEXPECTED, if not a tad awkard given their differences in height. As much as Arrow wanted to ask what had brought it on, he couldn't quite form the words. Maybe they weren't needed. It seemed like one of those moments.

It was with a inkling of hesitation that he reached up to return the embrace. His hold was gentle, but firm.

↳ @familylightfox asked: "I promised somethin' before the month ends..." It helped that they had already settled at the Inn for the upcoming festival. One hand was offered as Volt stepped off the front porch with a smile.

"So... 'Bout that flight."

{➹} – THE HEDGEHOG HAD raised his arms over his head in a stretch as they walked onto the porch. With only a few days left in the month he was looking forward to the end of it and his current state, but not before a few festivities there in the mountain village. They would be just what he needed to take his mind off things, and have a little fun during one of his favorite holidays.

And, more importantly, their daughter's birthday.

Maybe it was because his husband knew what was going on in that head of his, or because the opportunity was too perfect but that one gesture, the one offer, had made the hedgehog unbelievably happy.

"Just take it easy on me." A small tease before that hand was taken and squeezed, the hero's smile a mile wide. He wouldn't lie, he had been looking forward to this.

↳ @familylightfox asked: Light had needed a day to recover from the last ‘experience’ with the Freedom Fighters of their world. So he wasn’t too surprised when Gibbous had nudged his pants leg with her nose while he was sitting on the couch, but what quirked an eye was when she did so, then looked to the hero sitting next to him. When he stayed still, she puffed out her cheeks and shifted to bump her nose against Arrow’s leg instead. A little more insistent this time, nose wiggling and just staring up at the hedgehog. One more firm nose bump. “Are you feeling alright?” He had to ask. If she was being this persistent.

     {➹} – THE GENERAL CONSENSUS of the day seemed to be taking it easy. A common practice when Light and Gibbous came to visit those days because, even if they didn't say it willingly, the family could pick up on when their friends weren't in the greatest spirits. And frankly, they were happy to have the pair decompress there at the home rather than back with the ones undoubtedly causing that stress in the first place.

So it wasn't given a second thought as the pair settled in near the hedgehog, who was reading some magazine while his daughter seemed occupied with her markers and the latest cartoon on the television and his wife was sat on the chair nearby on her phone. Pretty typical for the small family,

So maybe it could be forgiven that none of them really noticed Gibbous' change of demeanor until about the second time she had nudged the hero, earning not just his attention but that of the singer's too. Neither of them knew what it was about, having chalked it up to restlessness until Light asked their question.

"Er, yes...? A bit confused, but 'm — " As honest as the hero's words were, they were cut short not only by a sudden, rapid beeping from his wrist but a look of surprise as well. The latter was the only reason he hadn't excused himself as he normally would, too taken aback to get up and move before his communicator flashed red and his own skin went pale in stark contrast. All before a familiar pain settled in his chest, and his breathing turned shallow.

Unfortunately, it was one more thing that was typical for the family. Mina had wasted no time getting to her husband's side, thankful that the couch was doing most of the supporting, and it took even less time for Lyra to abandon her show to turn towards her parents. It wasn't the first time she had seen this, but she was still far too young to understand what was happening to her father.

So the abrupt crying and her running over were equally as expected, and despite the acute pain he was in the hero still managed to scoop her up in an effort to calm her down. He couldn't say he was doing a terrific job, but it did give him something else to focus on while his partner turned to Light and Gibbous.

For a long moment Mina just stared between the pair, until her eyes rested on Gibbous. She didn't bother to hide her own surprise, though she made a point to keep her voice gentle. "Did...you know?"

{➹} – "WINTER BUCKET LIST?" Mina repeated, a brow raised above the amused smile on her muzzle. She had never heard of such a thing, but in a way it did make sense.

And she wasn't alone in the thought as her partner frowned, puzzled. "They have those...?"

An odd concept, especially to the couple who would rather stay inside during the colder months frankly. Neither of them liked the cold, in fact the hedgehog never forgot to remind people that it could be quite dangerous for someone like him. Hedgehogs just didn't do well in cold conditions.

However, there was one member of the family who didn't mind the snow, or the cold. And while she only understood a part of the conversation between her parents and their visitor, Lyra did have a suggestion.

"Puppy, skate?" Ice skate, that was. There was a frozen lake not too far from the house that the family would go to every now and again. It was fitting, the adults would admit, although how they would get their four-legged friend into proper skates was another matter.

But they would leave that to Cosmo.

{➹} – ARROW DIDN'T MEAN to laugh, but he did. It wasn't done unkindly but there was a look in his eyes that was still humored nonetheless as he looked to the other. He didn't know what had stirred up the question, but he also didn't mind it. He had taken it as curiosity and nothing more.

"Y'know, there was a time I would have said 'no', but these days?" Things had changed. So much so in the last few years that sometimes it still threw him for a loop. The hero was something he had never expected to be, and thus had an entirely new part to his life that most just wouldn't understand.

He was part of something bigger than himself, but he was glad to have the likes of his brother, Chaos and Tikal at his side.

"'S hard t' say when 'm friends with one. Though I'd call her a spirit more than a ghost."

They're not supposed to be here. » Then poof gone not text or sight since then, but there was a sign of a struggle. After weeks of nothing, during the pouring rain there was a knock at their door. He looked at him when the door opened, fur missing in patches burn marks from electrical use and holding a broken arm. One of his eyes appeared damaged so he was only having one eye open. “ Don't… suppose I could ask for a cup of tea then I'll set off for home? ”

     {➹} – THE MESSAGE THAT came through had done nothing for the hedgehog's nerves, nor had the lack of answers when he tried for a response back from his friend over the next few minutes, hours and even days.

[Wait. Who's there?] [Saturn?] [Are you alright?]

There was nothing. No answer, not even the faintest hint of what had happened. Even after visiting the other's home in the dull hopes of finding them, Arrow found nothing but more problems. Something had happened, he was sure of that much, and it was nothing good. But he was at a loss. With no clues and no contact, there was nothing the hedgehog could do but wait. And hope that the other was alright.

So when there was a knock at his door late one night, he had both an expectancy and a sinking feeling in his stomach. Neither of which stopped him from opening the door, and once face to face with dark fur and familiar eyes, he cursed under his breath. Not in rejection, but unease.

"No, you'll stay here tonight." He wasn't going to take anything else for an answer, and the look in his eyes made that obvious before he moved to allow the other inside. But not without looking them over and frowning heavily. "Chaos, Saturn...what the hell happened?"

Despite being slightly out of breath and rugged from his run he still found himself smiling at the words looking back at him.

And he hoped his answer would make his friend do the same.

   {➹} – THE EXCITEMENT HAD caught the hedgehog a little off-guard, a brow raised in curiosity that didn't betray his delight in the slightest. He knew the hawk wasn't everyone's favorite addition when it came to being around him, so he was glad Flask hadn't taken any of the subtle glares and occasional pecks as a bad thing.

Really, whether she believed him or not, the hedgehog knew Bolt liked the mouse. Trusted her, even.

"I don't see why not, though you don't have t' ask. You can just call her," he replied, smiling right before his gaze turned to the sky. Just a split moment before he whistled one long, high-pitched note that almost seemed uncharacteristic coming from the quiet hero.

And right on cue there was a screech in response, the flutter of wings and soon a shadow cast over the couple. Bolt was never too far from the hedgehog unless she really needed to hunt, so it took little time before she was settled near the pair, wings folded and head cocked in a way that just announced her unspoken question.

He wasn't scared so to speak just really uneasy on the idea as previous discussions between himself, Arrow and Mina had gone through. He still thought this was a bad idea. But when he saw little Lyra coming into view he'd smile not wanting to seem intimidating. "Hey kiddo."

     {➹} – THE COUPLE COULDN'T SAY whether this was foolish or not, all they knew was that the idea of introducing Dan to their daughter hadn't set off any real alarm bells. They would never push for it, just a causal suggestion here and there, but they couldn't say they weren't glad when it seemed, at last, the other was willing to give it a go.

Who knew? Maybe Dan could use a little socialization just like their daughter did. Of course, neither Arrow nor Mina expected it to be easy with Lyra's shy streak but that was all the more reason to do it sooner rather than later in their minds. A fact that was cemented when the girl took one look at the darker hedgehog and proceeded to bury her face in her dad's scarf. There had been worse starts at least.

It took some gentle coaxing and soft introductions but she finally looked at the stranger, though with a death grip on her dad and a concerned look to her mom. When they both only gave her a reassuring look, she finally blinked at him.

"D...an?" At least his name was easy for the one-year-old, and after a few moments she pointed to the one thing that had caught her eye, both because of the color and the oddity of it. His arm. "Boo-boo...?"

    {➹} – NOTHING HAD CHANGED from the day before, at least not when it came to the couple being able to keep their hands off one another. Arrow had at least gotten back into his usual attire, red scarf and all, before the hybrid had closed the space between them for what seemed like the millionth time in just a few hours. And he loved every moment of it.

     The soft purr in the hedgehog’s chest gave that way well enough, and he didn’t resist the urge to affectionately bump the hybrid with his nose, smile bright and wide. 

     “Maybe, but I think ‘s a risk I’m willing t’ take if you are.”

"I...don't know." A lie. He could already feel his body's yearning, that pull he had felt years ago, when he had been younger, and managed to subdue with a fair share of troubles. Arrow didn't know if he was going to be as lucky this time, but he didn't want to take that step. He would hold out as long as he could if that was the case.

"It doesn't matter, 'm sure I'll be fine."
