He really was beautiful.

It was remarkable, honestly, how you could simultaneously want nothing more than to be with someone and still have every pore in your body burn like a rash whenever you were.

Having crushes wasn't Ron's area of expertise, well, he'd thought he'd liked a few girls but nothing was like this. He'd never had to fight to get someone out of his head because he just knew that person would overtake everything else in there. He'd never had eyes that had a mind of their own, which they must, because why did they keep looking over there? At his best friend?

And he'd definitely never had words get tangled up in his throat because sometimes your head and your heart just answer at the same time and your mouth doesn't know what to say. Help me with this paper? he'd hear, and his heart would pound out the words yes, yes I'd do anything for you without any permission whatsoever. It was ridiculous, frankly.

Sarah isn’t used to this, the act of loving someone so unconditionally. Much less the act of having that love returned just as unconditionally. She just -- isn’t used to it, and that’s not even a bad thing anymore to her. It’s just what it is. She’s used to loving someone more--- more than anyone could ever love her. She knows that she’s rather unlovable. It’s been ingrained into her brain from a young age. Her dad left, her mom didn’t care. She’s used to being the insignificant Other.

But then. She met Connor Rhodes when she was in grade school, it’s been a long time. Even with this outstanding length of friendship, she’s not used to it. The sheer act of him caring is not something she’s used --- even now. It kinda sucks. Makes her feel inferior, or less than, because she’s unable to trust his love for her. She knows -- she has to know, it’s clear in the way his face falls --- that it hurts when she doubts him. She can’t help it.

So her and Connor, they’re not siblings. But they’re close enough to it, and she likes that. She really does. But it makes it harder... because she has fallen for his other best friend. Ava Bekker. And she isn’t --- as we’ve established previously --- good at being loved.

Ava Bekker has been a nuisance to her heart and its long streak of feeling less than. Ava is obsessed with treating her with kindness. Sarah isn’t quite sure how she feels about it. Even worse than that, the fact that Connor is doing it too? Ugh. She just -- it’s overwhelming to be cared for so stoutly.

Ava and Connor are treating her with a kindness she has never known: And she hates it. She hates that she hates it, but it’s unfortunately something she has to get used to: they aren’t gonna stop being nice to her just because she asks. And that’s confusing too!

It makes her feel guilty to love Connor’s best friend. Greedy, even. She loves Ava in a way that she doesn’t love Connor. That makes her feel guiltier. She’s trying really hard to get used to the feeling of different kinds of love. She wishes it were easier. It’s not.

Connor basically forced his parents into adopting her --- so to speak. She’s not legally their kid, but they’re kind in a way she isn’t used to. It’s strange. She doesn’t know if it’s a good thing or not. She’s trying, but it’s not something she can just get used to overnight. She loves them differently than Connor does; but she’s also just grateful. She feels cared for (again, uncomfortable) in a way she’s unused to. She likes it. Sort of.

She wonders if they’d think less of her for loving Ava. She thinks about it, how they might feel if she were caught kissing Ava more than on the cheek in greeting. She hates the idea of disappointing them. She doesn’t think her heart could bear it --- to lose their love would be worse than losing her parents twice over. She doesn’t want to lose people who actually care.

But she starts to wonder what it would be like to kiss Ava, on the lips and everything, and now she can’t stop thinking about how Ava probably tastes like strawberries. She’s always eating them. It’s endearing. Anything Ava does is endearing to Sarah.

Sarah is currently walking over to Connor’s house, thinking too much. She doesn’t notice Ava waving at her until she’s run into her. Oops! Sarah startles, recoiling backwards and apologising profusely.

“It’s ok.” Ava says. “Are you hurt?”

“No.” Sarah answers quickly. She isn’t. Just shocked at how strikingly beautiful Ava looks in the sunlight. She is struck with the thought of painting her one day. She smiles slightly. “Are you?”

“Nope.“ She pops the word out with a smile. “What are you thinking so deeply about?” Ava asks. “You looked like you were gonna cry. Should I beat someone up?” she offers.

“No.” Sarah giggles a little, shakes her head softly. “Unless you want to beat me up.”

“So that’s a negatory. Got it.” Ava smiles. “What are you thinking about then?” she asks again.

Sarah hesitates. Ava looks at her curiously, and it’s all Sarah can do to not kiss her in this moment, and now she’s thinking about why shouldn’t she? Why. Why is she so stoutly in the way of her own happiness? She wonders. Ava waits, seeming to understand more than Sarah does in this moment.

“Can I kiss you?” Sarah asks at last-- simple, blunt, to the point.

Ava beams.

I hate to do this again, but I'm out of options. I have to pay my $350 power bill by 5pm CST tomorrow (December 7th, 2023) or I'll be disconnected, and my account is currently over $500 in the red from December's rent. I still haven't been able to find a new job and things are getting really desperate

Pomni's feelings for Ragatha are blatantly obvious to everyone except Ragatha (and Jax definitely teases her about them)

They're also not obvious to Pomni herself since she might not want to believe that she has feelings for someone she just met (in a virtual world, no less.)

Like, oh, she might think that Ragatha's super pretty and she wants to hold her hand while they walk together or stare into each others eyes while they lean in to give each other a kiss, but that doesn't mean she likes her or anything! Right...?

Pomni would not be able to handle any sort of flirting from Ragatha. She would literally die. Literally just die dead, and she wouldn't breathe anymore and so she'd die rest in peace Pomni RIP Pomni hashtag.

They brush each other's hair. (I KNOW that Pomni cannot take off her hat, but she's got those... little strands in the front! Those can be brushed! Maybe!)

Ragatha often gives Pomni hugs when she's feeling upset, or just when Pomni asks for it. (Pomni might think that she's being overwhelming by asking for affection but Ragatha really doesn't mind. She likes making Pomni happy by doing that.)

Sometimes Pomni will stand on her toes to be the same height as Ragatha (which makes Ragatha a lot happier than she'd ever like to admit)
