Also, no… you weren't left with the true things, that's just learned cognitive distortions speaking; I'm sure if you asked Jan or Rem if they thought those things about you, they would set you straight right away. I'll also put a silent alarm on your phone that'll go off the next time Remus is near you, though only if you let me. Would that help?

A few days later, in the middle of the day, the Rems were sitting on the sidewalk behind a starbucks. There were so many people inside the cafe Remus had nearly gotten a sensory overload while ordering the 4 cupcakes and 2 sandwiches he was smashing down into his slippery gullet. Remy had just taken a black coffee.

The alarm had gone off a while ago but they didn't know how to ask him about it. He looked tense. He sat in an unnatural pose that made it easy to get up and run away. His shoulders were raised and brows just a bit furrowed. Maybe they could-

"Oh!!! Bean bitch do you wanna see what I've been drawing lately???" Remus suddenly exclaimed, crumbs of sandwich flew out of his mouth.

"Sure babe"

He had a big grin on his lips as he took out his sketchbook and flipped through it "Alright so you remember how I did some anatomy practice of you when we watched lesbian vampire movies yes? Well I kinda continued with those"

The first few drawings were realistic sketches of Remy's face from a few different angles but on the next page he'd used his cartoony style to make them into a supernatural being. One drawing showed them with 8 eyes. One with nothing but gorey eye sockets left. One with spiders crawling out of their eyes and mouth.

Remus rocked back and forth slightly "Sorry. Is it weird? I just thought it would be cool if there were some character who looked nromal but was hiding something under their sunglasses. I dunno. Maybe it's stu-"

"No. No. Babe I think it's like tots cool! You made me look like super chic. Blood is totally in right now!!"

He shone up into a bright smile "Thanks!" There was slight blushing on his cheeks.

"I think I would look cool with some teeth in my eyes just saying"

"OOOOh!! Maybe even fangs?!"

"You got it babe!"

He took out a pen and immediately started to sketch it out. Remy was just happy getting to watch him draw.

Until a notification sound came from Remus' phone. He flinched before quickly checking it and immediately setting it down again. He somehow tensed up more.

Remy took a deep breathe. They could do this. They could talk about emotional stuff.

"You good babe? I mean like at any time? 'Cause you look tense like a lot- I uh I'm not like asking why. You don't gotta tell me shit. just like wondering if you're like okay"

"You're one to talk. you walk around looking like you got a stick up your butt 24/7........Do you??....kinky"

"Not yet"

"Me neither"

They both went quiet. Remus fiddled with the ring he still had on his finger. Remy scratched at their neck.

"I...I just feel paranoid....all the time...My intrusive thoughts never shut up about how every interaction I have with other peple could end in the worst ways. Even right now" Remus muttered out after a while.

"I get that. I mean I" They forced a chuckle "Every single time my boyfriend raises his hand, just to like take a plate or something, my thoughts still scream at me that he's gonna hit me. He never does. I know he won't. But my body and thoughts still act like he will. It happens with every person. I've been sure Janus was going to slap me"

Remus looked up at them. His eyes suddenly looked so so desperate "I dosen't get better?" He asked, his voice sounded like it was close to breaking "The paranoia will Always be there?"

"What? No! No no no. of course not babe. I'm just completely fucked up y'know. Like all of my argument with my boyfriend ends with either me having like a panic attack or us fucking" They laughed "Like an overemotional crybaby y'know. But you're- You'll be fine- I'm sure- You're not- I'm just-"

Remus pulled his knees up to his chest and leaned his chin against his knees. "I think you can be fine too" He mumbled out.

"I don't- I- I dunno- It's like it's so clear I was like supposed to die at specific moments...and then I just....didn't....and now I'm just like still here even though I'm not supposed to...I'm just like a rotting corpse dragging everyone else down. I-I don't know how to be fine if my thoughts are still sure I'm going to die every single day"

Remus shrugged "I think rotting corpses are pretty cool"

It was so out of left field Remy let up into a laugh. "Jesus fuck you stupid necrophile" They hid their face in their hands "Babe I'm sorry. I'm tots rambling. I was asking if you were okay, not if you wanted to like hear me be a stupid bitch"

"It's okay. I think being able to be a stupid bitch is kinda cool too. I can't even try to vent without shutting down...I feel kind of like I'm rotting as well"

(It felt like he'd left his skin in his old apartement. To be honest it felt like his entire being had been scrapped out of him just to be left behind)

"Wow babe. Is there something you don't think is cool?"

He thought for a moment "Soap. It's icky and gets everywhere"

"Sound argument"

Remus slowly moved his head to lean it against their shoulder. He could feel their chest rise to take a shuddering breathe and lower again.

"Have you ever thought I would?" Remus quietly asked.

"Yeah" They admitted "I know you wouldn't"

"I know. I've been paranoid about you too"

"It's okay"

"I've willingly been to your apartment. That's a lot" Remus pointed out "I haven't been to Jan's apartement"

"We should break into his place in the middle of the night" Remy replied in a fake serious tone.

"Oh yeah. It's a must. How else do you know you're friends? We should bring matching friendship knives as well!"

Remy chuckled "You can design them. And my teeth eye design! That's like tots important! My true destiny is to be a monster milf y'know. The lesbians would love me"

"Ayyay captain! I'll get right on that! Remus: milf maker"

They let out an audible keysmash "Babe that's my porn name now. Milf maker! Cougar collector! Homewrecker hoobyist!!"

"Yay grammar!!"

Remy got up and held out their hand to help him up. "Aight babe, I better head home. And you better get yourself a hot bath. You sure are smelling like a rotten corpse"

"Oh don't worry. I have a demon who sends me gifts, including bathing gifts"

Remy blinked at him "Huh" They moved their arm around his shoulders and started to walk towards the busstop "Tell me all about it. Is it a hot demon?"

My beef with the Monster High/Ever After High fandom

I promised myself I would never make a post like this but hey, today I got a review on my fanfiction.net page that kinda pissed me off so now I’m gonna post this.

So, only a small handful of people who have been following my blog for a while know that before I was in the TF2 fandom, I was writing fanfiction for Monster High and even Ever After High (if you’re unfamiliar, basically they were franchises based dolls made by Mattel). I did this all throughout high school and I got pretty popular on FF.net because of it.

The fandom wasn’t all bad, I should clarify: I met really cool and interesting people in there, and I even made a friend, so generally I had a positive experience. However, then there were the...not so good people. Now, I’m gonna be gentle when I tell these stories, because I’m pretty sure many of these people were actual children, but I think a few of them were really adults or at least people who were a little older than I was at the time, so I don’t really have many hang-ups about sharing these stories.

The first major thing that happened was about five years ago, when I was browsing other people’s fanfics, and I happened across one that seemed very familiar. I started reading it, and a that was when I realized that the author of the story I found had practically plagiarized a story I had written a few days earlier. I don’t mean like they just stole my idea, but there were parts of the story that were obviously copied and pasted from the thing I had written but just re-arranged differently so it looked like an original piece. The craziest part was that when I looked at the comments, nobody had any idea those parts were stolen although it was completely obvious the author had not written them. The sections that the author actually wrote themselves were littered with bad grammar and typing errors, while the rest had been proofread (how do I know? Because I wrote them!). I was super pissed off, and I was about to message the person when I checked their bio and saw that they were like 11 or something, and while I personally think kids that young should NOT have a social media presence, I kinda let it slide. This kid was really young, they probably didn’t know any better, so I just let it go. Looking back, though, I feel like I should have at least said something since no one else was calling them out and they weren’t going to learn until someone talked to them.

About two years after that incident, I started writing story that was a crossover with Monster High and Ever After High, and...HOOOO BOY. That brought some weird folks out of the wood work. I can only think it was because I started writing for a bigger audience, but for some odd reason an adult man messaged me and tried to pay me $50 to write a weird fetish fanfic involving Ever After High characters, and he had really specific words and phrases he wanted me to use in the fic. I was really creeped out and said no, but he kept messaging me about it until I just blocked him. What’s even weirder is that I’m pretty sure I was like seventeen or so when this interaction took place, so...yikes.

Around the same time, another user messaged me asking if I took requests. I said yes and asked what it was they were requesting, and they suddenly launched into this entire description of a Thomas the Tank Engine and Ever After High crossover fanfic and sent me a link to a very specific song they wanted me to base it off of. I was caught off guard and didn’t answer for a few minutes, which caused them to become really paranoid and they started asking me if I was going to block them. I hesitantly replied and just told them it sounded like a lot of work but I would look into it later, and they accepted that answer and never messaged me again. It was really odd, to say the least.

Also worth mentioning was the person who left what had to be at least fifteen messages in my PM inbox and like eight different reviews on the same story literally DEMANDING that I write a chapter about their favorite character (the character in question was Twyla, by the way). I sensed this person was also really young, so I replied and kindly told them that she wasn’t part of the story yet, but if they wanted to they could request a separate story about her. Well, this kid got REALLY frustrated and tried to start an argument with me, and when I asked them to leave me alone they called me a ‘bitch’, so I just blocked them.

Eventually I stopped updating my crossover fic since I never found a good way to continue it, but there’s one person who keeps leaving reviews on not just that story but also the various TF2 fics I’ve reuploaded there. They keep begging me to continue it, and normally I’d just ignore it but what’s really strange is that they seem to come back and leave comments every few months. I just got one from them earlier today, which was what made me write this. I get the feeling this person is a kid, but I swear to god I get really pissed off when I open my email and go, “Oh cool, I got a review” only to find out it’s this same person who’s been begging me to update a story I haven’t touched in two years. It’s also irritating when they leave comments about that particular story on my unrelated TF2 stories, because it’s super clear that they just see me as source of entertainment rather than a real person who makes fan content.

I dunno, I guess people like this exist across all fandoms, but I’ve only ever experienced this kind of weird entitlement when I was in these two fandoms. I can only think it was because there’s a lot of children present in these fandoms, but like...I dunno, man. Weird stuff.

Inbox: i love asks!! my inbox is open to everyone, whether i post a meme or if you just pop in to say something! however, oftentimes i don’t post every ask i get-- a lot of the time they’re related to crack stuff when i’m joking around with other people on dash, and i try to be conscious of how much i post in general ( but ESPECIALLY with shitposting fgklbnfd ) so, sometimes i just don’t answer stuff when i feel like i’ve been posting too much. if you’ve ever sent me an ask and i didn’t answer, it’s not you!! it’s just me being paranoid lol

Selectivity: well i was originally semi-selective but things change :-) mostly in that i... can be picky, i guess? so i’m selective now; i rp with mutuals mostly. if i follow you, i want to interact with you, that’s the biggest thing lol. i kind of expect somewhat proper grammar ( i speak 2 languages so yes i do understand having trouble with grammar! ) and for people to trim posts. before i had editable reblogs, i redid every single reply i wrote so that it wouldn’t be a giant post; if my dumb ass can do that, i feel it’s not too wild to expect that from others ; w;’’

Wishlist: ooh i don’t actually have one of these! i suppose... i’m always a sucker for tails fixing up robot characters, lol. i also love love love platonic friendship/familial stuff; part of the reason i love tails so much is bc found family stuff is so dear to me! so. yeah i’m a sucker for soft stuff, i guess that’s the mood lmao.

I'm not a fan of Michael's message. Francie said in an alliance chat that she thinks it was her who he was talking about because she responded to him with one word messages. Not really knowing that it was a bad thing. The dense comment was unnecessary.

I'M SO SHOOKETH!!! I truly thought that this was my last tribal!!! And I didn't get a vote??? I was so paranoid. And now??? I??? Am still here??? A blessing. Everything is fine and all I have to deal with now is Michael! And he's already digging his grave by being rude, inactive, and shady a lot! I'm so happy! I'm hoping touchy subjects doesn't ruin shit for me. We shall see! I'm very excited for this comp, if I'm being quite honest! I am just too excited for everything I guess. Emily told me that my name was being thrown around, which makes me really nervous. Good thing I have Mr. Espirito Idol to help me out if I get in a doozy. That was earlier, though, now everyone is saying they want Michael out and that's what I wanted to do last night. He's not good for my game or Emily's game, but I'm so happy she has immunity tonight. So everyone wants to vote Michael which is great because it isn't me, but also isn't great because I need to see someone in the majority go home - not necessarily someone from my alliance but like... someone with power. And I think Amanda G is that person I'm very sure she's in an alliance with Emily and some combination of other people, and I think I could maneuver things to take her out. I have a plan that involves telling Ruthie about my fake merge idol, giving it to her to give to Michael so that 1) he trusts her and 2) he can flash it to make everyone think he's going to play an idol so that they split the votes between him and someone else (maybe Bryce? Mo?) and then we get a majority of 5 (me, Ali, Ruthie, Michael) to vote out Amanda G it would be crazy but... I really have no idea if it's worth it right now or if it's the right time or what's gonna happen. I could even potentially not vote for Amanda G and get the votes split so it's only three for Michael, four for Amanda G, and four for whoever they decide to split the votes between... this math is getting complicated but I really think I could work this out right here and right now. If there was ever a time to cause chaos it would be in this moment.

Guess who's a flop? Me. I didn't add everything I could've to that vid confessional. What I forgot to mention was that Amanda G and I were talking earlier about Touchy Subjects before the results came out and then she asked me who I trusted and I told her I really trusted Emily. I told her the truth, I really trust Emily, but there's also more people that I trust but wasn't going to tell her because I didn't want to reveal all my ties, etc. While I was writing this I talked to her some more. She asked who I was considering for tribal and I told her Michael and said she was too. I think I can trust her word, or at least I hope so.

Okay so I think the vote is gonna be Michael. I told Amanda Lynn that I didn't find the idol and she said that she didn't make it past the word search which is a lie according to Emily so that's iconic. Will said he didn't get it but lowkey he did.. Mo wants to work with me and said he trusts me the most and honestly I'm just like SAME. I am trying to decide if I should tell him about my alliance with Amanda G and Emily or not. On one hand I want to let him know things because it can strengthen our bond, on the other hand he could be playing me or not even playing me but still leak it and that could be bad! I am also talking to Ali T but it's so hard because he speaks in like buzzwords; plus he once said mommy and I still think about that in an unsettling way. Also I got voted that I wasn't playing the game and I think it's because I find it so scary and hard to talk game with all these people. What if I get exposed?? I want to set something up with Mo and Francie but I am afraid Francie would tell Emily and then that'd be awkward. Also Amanda G not telling me about the idol clue because she thought I was too good at puzzles is slightly annoying but I don't know if I would have finished in time even if I knew sooner. Now that I'm immune, I think today is the day I work on my resume and chill out. After making a "big move" with Nayeli's idol and THEN voting out Gwen, I've created an enemy with Michael and PROBABLY Ali! This boy tells me that he trusts me 110% then goes around talking with Michael and planning to vote me out! I'm immune this round hunties get off me!!! Focus on... I don't know who else they should focus on because I'm apparently running the game. Thanks Touchy Subjects! But honestly Touchy Subjects was so much fun djsfkadslf So Amanda Lynn is telling me that Ali, Michael, and she (Using that FreeRice grammar? Idek know if it's right I'm keeping it because it sounds funny.) are talking about my tribal. Michael is CONVINCED I knew Toph before this game which is SUCH bullshit!!! I honestly feel attacked that he feels this strongly about it. Also, he's just rude. I don't understand why he's gotta be rude! Not cute! But my absolute favorite thing about this is that he thinks that in Toph's goodbye message, Toph said, "I love you RUTHIE." R U T H I E!!! I'm DEAD! He completely forgot that it was Amanda G oh HONEY this is iconic.

But I'm so happy pretty much everyone is on board with voting Michael! Amanda G, Amanda Lynn, Francie, Abbey, and Will are all confirmed voting Michael and I can get Bryce on our side. If Michael is going after Ruthie, then Ruthie will vote Michael. And Mo will just vote with majority. This is beautiful.

Thinking back to Touchy Subjects, I'm very honored people think I'm running the game. Iconic. And some of the last few tribals have proved that theory? I had a hand in every tribal I attended (Which was only three... But let's ignore that.) and I think that'll be good for my resume. I'm excited to see how these Touchy Subjects results influence my game... Hopefully in a positive way? But the things that I won were all things that put massive targets on my back. Best edgic? Who is actually controlling the game? Who is playing too hard for their own good (Also, how did Will get that too? What?)?

OKAY WHEW I haven't done a proper confessional in a long time so I think it's time. So much has happened since the short round with the Gwen vote, so I think I'm just gonna go person by person and talk about everything that way. First, I want to start with Touchy Subjects... because WHEW. Okay so I was given the following: Who is playing too hard for their own good? Who needs to be exposed as a snake or a rat? Who thinks they are running the game? Who will win if they get to the end? Who would you trust with your life? That's the most answers I've received in a single Touchy Subjects to date! It's very nerve-wracking bc..... They think I'm gonna win? They think I'm a rat? And they all trust me? What? I've gotta tread very carefully. I'm really hoping to go to the end with the Gal Pals, so I'm trying to laugh it all off with them. Okay so let's start with (hopefully) tonight's boot - Michael. So I don't really have much to say about him because he's like... hardly here... Honestly. He's around to like, talk bout how everyone hates him and maybe rally some votes to vote Ruthie (Not happening) and then he's nowhere to be seen so... I'm playing it off that I want him to stay (which is mainly for Ali's benefit), but tbh, he can go. So let's move on to Michael's BFF, Ali. Okay so Ali is a very nice guy, and I genuinely like him as a person. But as a player? He's VERY needy. He's constantly asking if his name is going around and he doesn't want to vote Michael, but he will go where they votes are, and he wants Emily out but we can't be she's immune so he wants Ruthie out bc that's what Michael said, blah blah. I feel bad lying to him, I genuinely like him. But this is what's better for my game. He caught wind that Michael is probably going home, so I'm trying to play it off like, Oh no, we gotta fix this, but like.... nah I'm good with it. Next is Mo, who was attached to my hip on Espirito, always asking me what to do, what to say, how to vote... and now that we merge, he hardly talks to me. lol. I see you, bud. Next is Bryce... who.... is complicated lol. We talk about non-game things all the time, and always just casually bring up like, "Oh yeah, this is who people are voting for." So like... I guess its okay? I just want him gone asap, but if mine and Abbey's plan works, its gonna be at least another round before we can get him out. I'll get to that later. So this whole game I've tried to talk to Amanda G and its just... hard to hold a conversation. But she comes to me out of the blue like, "Hey we haven't talked. What's up?" Then we talk casually and then all of a sudden she says, "Yeah so this is who I wanna vote for, but I'll do whatever." THIS GIRL HRJWEDS I'm yelling, she's so funny. I'm forgetting someone....who is it.. who...is... it.... Oh yes, Ruthie. HGRJFDSK I feel so bad but I always forget Ruthie. I don't have much to say about her.. I try to keep our line of communication open, but that's the extent of our relationship. So then we have Will, who I've wanted to work with but haven't had the chance until now. He wanted to form an alliance with the Gal Pals (not that he knows that that is a thing but anyway). So we have the Sleeping Nerds, and it's good for now. Abbey told me that Will has the merge idol, so that's good to know. He and I talked quite a bit last night and I like him a lot. I feel okay working with him right now. We have similar interests, gamewise, so he's a good ally to have for the moment. But I don't want him around too long. If anyone can overthrow the Gal Pals, it will be him, and we can't have that. I'll get to that in a minute. So I'm just gonna talk about all the Gal Pals at once. Abbey is still my closest ally and best friend, but we are trying to hard to not allude to it, especially to Emily and Francie. If they catch wind that we are more loyal to each other than we are to them, they will vote me out in a heartbeat. Abbey and I want to go to f4 with them, so our loyalty to them is genuine, but they need to believe that it's an even loyalty across the alliance.. if that makes sense. I dont have much to say about them tbh. We are all generally on the same page and want the same targets and we always report back to each other. I trust them all. So this confessional is super long and I do have more to say but I need a break, lol. I'll come back to this later and finish and talk about mine and Abbey's plan, but for now I will leave you with these four words: All. Female. Final. Six.

I'm getting really nervous about this tribal council it's like wow, no one is really talking to me maybe this is a simple vote agaisnt michale but I know this game and I'm getting nervous it's me because nothing is easy in survivor, I also feel like emily is not talking too much with me even though I told her I close I am with her so idk what's gonna happen, these people wanna play safe but I know that may be an act, all I know is that people want Michael out and I'm okay with t I guess, and I swear amanda Lynn is a snake troughout one minute she's like "we gotta listen to Michael" and the next minute she's like "I wanna play safe" make up your mind girl, I also love Bryce idk much about mo and Ruthie I feel like they're floaters and Francie is this girl is a amazing game player!! I saw this post by @danosphere91 and I was going to reblog it and just ramble in the tags for a minute, but it got way too long for tag rambling very fast and I figured if I’m going to ramble I may as well just go ahead and let myself ramble for days.

‘Cause, like, I’ve been thinking about One Piece having different languages since somewhere around Alabasta in my first watch, and I always kind of low-key headcanon it as being a thing going on in the background.

Like, there’s a standard language enforced by the World Government, but of course it gets tweaked a bit as the years go by and some islands don’t have much contact with other islands, and then there are places the World Government doesn’t control and it’s really anybody’s guess whether or not the people there will be able to speak a language anyone recognizes. While most of each individual sea speaks the same language, most islands in the Grand Line have their own languages, since going between islands can be so difficult. One of the most notable exceptions is the islands connected by the sea train, which have agreed upon a shared language to make trading easier.

The Marines all speak the standard language, and officially that’s all they’re really supposed to speak, though most are aware that there are some circumstances that call for a language shift. A good early indicator of what sort of person any given marine is is how willing they are to cycle through languages and dialects until they find the one the person they’re talking to is most comfortable conversing in. (Akainu probably doesn’t speak anything but Standard.)

The East Blue group has a bunch of inside jokes that only work in the East Blue dialect, and sometimes they’ll try to make a new one and it just completely falls apart because the slang in Syrup Village is not at all compatible with the slang in Cocoyasi Village and then everyone is just speaking nonsense.

Luffy’s language skills are just a fucking mess because he learned some from Garp, and some from the people in Windmill Village, and the entire time Shanks was in town and for like two weeks after Luffy just practiced talking the way Shanks did, and then he learned stuff from the mountain bandits and Ace and Sabo and people in the Grey Terminal so it’s all just a mashup of different grammar rules and slang terms and everything else until he’s almost speaking a different language altogether. You know how he does that thing where, after having something explained, he’ll go ‘ah, its a mystery (insert thing here)’? It’s partially because his standard isn’t very good and, rather than try to cross the language gap, he just lets it go. He usually understands a lot more than people think, he just doesn’t have the language skills to communicate it.

Sanji isn’t much better; the fighting chefs come from all over the East Blue - to say nothing of all the language quirks Zeff picked up in the Grand Line and from his crew - and it shows. He’s a little more aware of it than Luffy though, and can usually at least pick one style and stick with it for the sake of consistency over the course of a conversation. His ability to do this slips when he gets mad, and he’ll also start adding in stuff from the language he spoke while living in the North Blue - his arguments with Zoro usually dissolve into physical fights around the time no one can tell what he’s saying anymore. It’s even worse against enemies - Black Leg Sanji is known as ‘that one Straw Hat who will scream nonsense at you while he kicks your face in’.

All those verbal tics characters have? Heavy accents. Law, for instance, never really got the hang of speaking Standard and when he does it - as he usually does in the Grand Line - he does so with a heavy accent that’s a mix of the general North Blue accent and the Flevance-specific one. All of the Minks have accents because of the way their mouths are shaped. ‘Garchu’ is a general greeting and carries a strong sense of community because they can all say it with pretty much the same pronunciation. Bepo lost his accent as a child from trying to sound more like Law, Shachi, and Penguin.

Speaking of Law. He rarely speaks Flevance’s language, but he writes all his notes in it. If people see them, they often assume he’s being paranoid or planning something, so he’s writing in code or something. Really, he’s just trying to make sure this last piece of Flevance doesn’t die before he does.

Big crews with people from lots of different backgrounds, like the Whitebeard Pirates, have to learn each other’s languages in order to communicate, and the crew ends up with a language that’s made up of all their different slang words and figures of speech. You’re really part of the crew when you can communicate fluently in it. Ace isn’t good at picking up new languages - Makino teaching him the proper dialect to be able to thank Shanks for saving Luffy was a nightmare - but the rest of the crew, especially the second division, helps him out where they can. Marco has a pretty heavy accent but he’s fluent in pretty much every language that’s ever come onboard.

The language of the Celestial Dragons is holy and no one else is allowed to speak it. With the exception of a few slave commands and a handful of employees, no one else is even allowed to understand it (plenty of people pick up on parts of it, of course, but you’d better not let on that you can understand it where they can see you). Doflamingo still speaks it to himself or at other people sometimes, as a ‘fuck you’ to all of them. No one else understands it so no one realizes how he’s forgotten a lot of the grammar rules, how he’s lost the accent and now the words break on his tongue, how he’s never had - never will have - a vocabulary better than a ten year old child.

Brook’s speech patterns range between ‘posh gentleman’ and ‘your embarrassing grandfather who thinks it’s still normal to say things like ‘groovy’ unironically’.

Chopper had to learn how to speak human languages from scratch. He can read tons of different languages fluently, but he can’t really speak any but Standard - he can’t get the hang of pronunciation, slang words, or context clues. He’s also not very good at tonal indicators or facial expression cues, since they weren’t things little baby reindeer learn (this is part of why he never realizes when Usopp is lying about things like having 8,000 men - in addition to his naivety, he can’t pick up on the tone shift that Usopp takes on when he starts telling stories).

Franky, in addition to whatever his biological parents spoke, Standard, and the language of Water Seven, can also speak some of Fishman Island’s language. Iceberg used to speak it better, but these days Iceberg is out of practice because the government doesn’t think much of people speaking it (yay, racism). Franky spoke it with Kokoro when she’d come to visit, and would help Chimney practice it too.

And while we’re on the subject of Fishman Island, they probably don’t get access to very good education, especially for the lower class citizens (*coughracismagaincough*), so the lower class the citizen the less likely they are to be able to speak Standard well, if at all. This is one of the arguments used for keeping them out of world meetings, to justify enslaving them, and so on - ‘look, they can’t even speak the language’. Those who can speak Standard usually do it with a thick accent, partially because of the education system and partially because of their mouth shapes.

Koala learned a decent amount of the Celestial Dragon language while a slave, and then the Fishman language from the Sun pirates. The latter is a comfort language; lots more positive associations with it than any other language. She relearns the Celestial Dragon language in the Revolutionary army to help translate things.

Sabo and Koala have some difficulties at the beginning of their friendship because Sabo’s noble accent and some of the terms are ingrained in him and last past the amnesia and it reminds her too much of the Celestial Dragons and other nobles. He purposefully uses more slang and forces a more casual accent around her. He isn’t sure why he’s so much more comfortable talking like that than he is talking like a gentleman.

So, yeah, I could go on for about a thousand years because I’m a linguistics nerd, but basically languages and the cultural and social implications thereof are super interesting and I like thinking about them, can you tell.

alright. well today was fine, glad it was Friday at least. up at 8:45 for court, I get placed in a breakout room with my client who only speaks Spanish (they have an interpreter in the courtroom) so we were just kind of being awkwardly silent as I tried to remember any of the Spanish I remember, but mostly clocked out at “Lo siento, no hablo mucho Espanol” and I’m sure the grammar in that sentence is off too. but we finally get pulled into the courtroom around 12:30 (not great, but after waiting 6 hours Tuesday and apparently both my coworkers handling cases didn’t get called until after 4 pm, so I’ll take 12:30). the first one was a simple one where we just needed another status date, so I told the opposing counsel I could just handle it and let him know what happens (he seems like a very nice guy, he was the one way back when I was new to the office who was like “I’m the nicest defense attorney you’ll ever meet” and I was just like well my dad was a defense attorney so that’s gonna be a high bar” 😂) but he’s always been super friendly, so that helps at least. then was my second case with my client there and when it got called I saw the Respondent had a lawyer, which I wasn’t aware of up to this point, but okay whatever, we introduce ourselves for the record and he says something like “I haven’t received an appearance from the other counsel” and I was like we filed it this morning” and he kinda huffed and was like “well I’ve been in here all morning” and at this point I had to hold my tongue because I didn’t want to get into a fight in front of the judge, so I bit down my response that would’ve been like “yeah so have everyone else in here, and I didn’t know you existed until right now so I couldn’t have even sent you an appearance” but I let it go because whatever, the guy’s a douche a douche, it doesn’t really matter. it looks like the case is going to settle though so I won’t have to deal with him too much. I do have to say, and I think this is really unfortunate because I think having law firms dedicated to helping dads in situations with their kids is a good thing ideally at least, but then sadly when I have encountered any of them so far they’re only ever working with gross, slimy abusive dads and I’m just like...dude, this isn’t it. and I’m sure there are solid firms for dad’s rights that are doing very important work, I just sadly haven’t seen one yet. It’s kind of like my experience so far with a lot of male victims of domestic violence. now, I wholeheartedly agree men can be abused like without a doubt, but it feels like any time we end up taking on a case for a man against a former partner there’s always some issue with the case that complicates things. Again, I’m speaking from my personal experience, I’m not at all saying that neither of those things are bad across the board, this is just what I’ve encountered. anyway. things when smoothly from there and I was done with court, I didn’t have any clinic responsibilities so I went to work getting some paperwork set up and into envelopes, then ventured out to the UPS store, which isn’t far, but it would be the furthest I’ve walked since last week’s multiple face planting incidents. I brought the can I got, but when I’m not having issues I don’t need it so I’m just kinda holding it, and now I’m super paranoid people are going to see me not using it once and then later see me use it and have them think I’m faking a disability or something like that, which would of course be very unpleasant for all. I made it to the store okay and got everything done, then on my way back I could kinda feel it building up in my legs, and then a bit further down around where I face planted in the road last week it started happening, at which point the cane was super helpful in being able to stop when it happens because if I don’t I would fall, but it really helped with that so I was pleased I did actually have a real purpose for it. II walked the rest of the way home slowly, pausing when needed to and trying to continue walking ok when I could, and made it back, thankfully, after that I had some other work stuff to take care of that I did, and then officially just dumped myself on the couch to watch some hulu, which I did for a bit, and then ended up on a skype call with a couple of the girls from one of the kpop gc’s I’m in and just talked about anything and everything, until it was getting late and I needed to start getting ready for bed so I exited there and went to shower and get ready for bed, and of course now here I am. It’s just past 1:30 am and I do want to wake up at noon for some Legends events stuff they’re doing tomorrow which I’m super excited about, so I do need as much sleep as I can if I want to be somewhat well-rested for tomorrow, and for such reasons will be ending this here. Do you plan on having children in the future? i have wyatt, and pregnant with eliana. after eliana, we aren’t having anymore. How big is your house? i don’t know, but it’s decent size. it has a little basement, laundry room, one bathroom, two living rooms (one of the living rooms is being turned into my parents bedroom though), a decent size kitchen, a dining room, and another bedroom on the main floor. then upstairs there are three bedrooms. Do you believe that the world will actually end? eventually. Describe your handwriting: i don’t know. it’s not great, but not horrible. kind of... flowy i guess sometimes? i don’t right very big, but definitely not tiny... i don’t know.

Can you speak any other languages than your first language? no. If you could speak another, which would it be? spanish would be more beneficial. but i think actually learning french and being able to speak it better, and italian would be cool. What is one trend you think is stupid? eating tide pods.

Do you ever watch any soap operas? i used to on occasion with my mom when i was home sick. but not anymore. Do you ever get goodnight or good morning texts from people? nope. What color are the pants you’re wearing? gray. When did you last go to the doctor and what for? last month. it was a prenatal appointment. Are you socially awkward? oh definitely. Would you rather watch a comedy movie or horror movie? depends on my mood. today would probably be comedy.

How long have you two been best friends? jacob, for about tenish years almost. kayla, for about three or four years. Do you have mood swings? occasionally. especially since being pregnant.
