Live-blogging Gloom Division
Just my first impressions! I will probably change my mind about several of these once I listen more. Overall I think it’s a great album :) I like the new sound, it’s definitely more pop-py but still really unique and funky. Excited for when my records get here! I ordered 2 because I’m stupid and forgot to cancel the first order.
Downside: It’s giving brobecks?? I love it.
Gloomtown Brats: It’s giving 1981?? It’s okay.
Infatuation: MY BELOVED!!!! YOU’RE MY FAVORITE SICK OBSESSION!!!! Fucking slaps goddamn. So smooth.
What Love?: 🥰🕺
SPKOTHDVL: Okay I’m kinda digging the rock and roll. I like the guitar. Not a huge fan of the lyrics but alright.
SIXFT: Oh my god I love this 4 measures in. And then he started singing?!?!? Good lord. YEAAAAHHHH!!!!! FUCK AROUND!!!!!
Find Me: BEEP BOOP?!?!?!?! Oh okay that was it, no Dallon experimental electronica era. False alarm everyone.
Kiss & Tell: It’s alright.
A Letter: FINALLY
Satanic Panic: oh I can SMELL the Daniel in this song. It fucking REEEKS of Joywave. I love it. Will be playing this on loop for a while.
Sunnyside: Cute!
Idiots of Oz: Not my favorite but it’s a good closer

saturday again no problem (a tuesdaypost retrospective)
sort of mixed feelings about this one bc, as we have previously chatted about, the august 2021-august 2022 period was one of the worst twelve-month periods of my life.
however! this year brought like six new tuesdaypost initiatives from other people (please shout at me in the comments or by DM bc my brain is broken and i don't remember all of you) and i DO want to take a look back at some media i enjoyed.
the normal format + some misc. stats below
listening
here are all the tuesdaysongs plus Permanent Peace by Jack de Quidt, who is not on spo/tify. this year gave me albums by: joywave, alt-j, unloved, scene queen, new doja cat, a bunch of junie and the hutfriends singles, and the gleeful insanity of the mcr tour. VERY good musical year imo
-
reading
this historically has been one of the more fallow categories, bc there is a level of background pain where it is quite difficult for me to read and viddy gaem is a better distraction.
could have sworn i read three cowboy novelizations this year but i can only find evidence that i read the sabata and red river novelizations. i have mixed feelings about the execution of Tom Lin's The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu and Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Gods of Jade and Shadow but do not regret reading either.
no particular comics or manga stand out in my fallible, forgettable brain this year. i am excited for the ongoing light novel and manga adaptation of Otherside Picnic but that's just from watching the anime
-
watching
happy that letterboxd is doing part of the thing i wanted (getting me to watch more movies) deeply annoyed i have fallen into the trap i was afraid of. this trap is: I Want To Make The Number Go Up and am now reluctant to watch tv bc i can't log it on letterboxd and it doesn't "count". fucking hate to gamify my own leisure like this!!!!
the very good thing about letterboxd is that my friends have excellent taste, and letterboxd reminds me which of the eight billion django knockoffs i have and have not seen.
GOD was january a good movie month. the below screenshot is movies i watched for the first time this year and really liked/have stuck in my head in some way, and 3/8ths were from january. thank u library streaming service kanopy
Tumblr media
see letterboxd has taken such a big chunk of my Moving Images time that it was hard to remember that both peaky blinders and killing eve ended this year!!! and i rewatched several seasons of adventure time! and most of the first season of DS9! and i am now in the process of watching the vampire interview show with my sister!!!
-
playing
got a handmedown switch!
this year was mostly big open worlds that didn't require a lot of complex thought from me, or if they did require some puzzle solving it was in really short bursts. lion's share of the hours this year went to fallout 4, breath of the wild, and pokemon scarlet. i really loved junk shop telescope, depanneur nocturne, and card cowboy.
honorary mentions to phone games that kept my anxiety to a low simmer while in a lot of doctor's offices.
Tumblr media
game im most hype for is probably the spooky fishing game Dredge, but i don’t think we’ll get that until early 2024. if anyone says the words "fallout 5" next year i will lose my mind bc i would like another one of these stupid motherfuckers before i die.
-
making
i think i'm going to mourn the old lair until i die.
Tumblr media
i am deeply, deeply unhappy with how this year went both personally and professionally. made an apartment cozy. lost the cozy apartment. cleaned a whole bunch of metal. framed a lot of things. bought a whole bunch of furniture. still have moths.
hate to leave this post on this note however i really should have died twice this year and didn’t. so im trying to be nice to myself about the rest of it.
-
bonus stats

Wowowow I am so grateful I'm getting to write this (explained below) HELLO
I just wanted to say I really really really like, love, and admire your "JAYVIK/VIKJAYCE" Spotify playlist. i work a delivery job and listen to a ton of music on the road; I often search for themes to find new music through fan playlists for various stuff... I will admit, I am a bit of a music snob but I'm also a sucker for cult-become-pop-favourites (does this make sense? it's a thin line to walk), and as song after song came on and went by I kept saying outloud things like "wow!" "no way!" and "this playlist might be flawless..." You chose songs that thematically fit and also are fantastic for the ears, I don't know how else to put it.
In the middle of the playlist--in the midst of my workshift--I made note that I had to check the Spotify username on the off-chance I could find who made it. When I got home, I started raving about it in a music server I'm in and finally looked for the username and, man, the gasp I let out, I'm not kidding: I really wasn't expecting to get the chance to tell you how much I liked this collection. I'm pretty new to the LoL/Arcane fandom, but, whew, I've fallen head-first in their universes and have quite honestly been obsessed with your art and your blog, so--probably needless to say--it was quite a delightful surprise to see your name under the playlist title. :)
i uhh have forgotten the vast majority of the things I actually wanted to further say but. Thank you for making this playlist, thank you for wearing your heart on your sleeve for the things you love. This list has introduced me to some new treasures, truly, and had me revisit some of my favourites, alike! (mad mad mad props for "Smoke and Mirrors!!" /gen, pos) I'll be listening to your other public LoL playlists, I am so genuinely excited.
ps. I spy the blatant love for Joywave!! If the Spotify username wasnt going to lead me anywhere, I was considering asking a joywave server I'm in on the off-chance if anyone liked Arcane enough to make a playlist. ALSO NAT KING COLE??? Righteous.
cn
This is such a DELIGHTFUL ask god im glad you liked it! That playlist was super self indulgent and it rules that you vibed with it as well 😭✌️✌️✌️ thank u for going thru all the trouble to lemme know

Day 2? 3? idek of not having tumblr on my phone. And of course it's the day shit happens!
Woke up at 2:15 in the morning because of a weird dream. Checked my phone to see Frank announcing the Mad Gear EP was finally on Spotify. THANK GOD. I am obsessed with it, and while I do have it on my phone, most of my frequently used playlists are from Spotify.
Then images from the idkhow x joywave show started coming out and now we got Dallon in shorts too?! I mean I know Dallon loves Gerard, but goddamn. I love it. I'm so excited for tomorrow.
Then L.S. Dunes dropped their song and it's fucking AMAZING! I pre-ordered the signed vinyl/t-shirt/patch bundle. Listen, I see the words "limited edition" and I just black out and hit check out.
What else... Oh I did 13 hours of overtime this week, so that more than takes care of all the merch I bought today/will buy tomorrow. I've already got my eye on the Joywave ghost shirt, but I'm not sure about what I'll get from idkhow.
Honestly all I care about is the fact that it is Friday and I do not have to hear a single word from my coworkers for days.

My Top 10 Albums of 2020
Now that the longest and craziest year in history is finally over, I figured now would be a good time to reflect and look back at some positive things from 2020. Despite concerts and tours being cancelled, and many bands and artists postponing albums due to not being able to promote them, there was a lot of really fantastic music released this year. Here are some of my favorites!
Honorable Mention: Money Money 2020 Part II by The Network
Tumblr media
Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool (plus some friends) brought back an old side project from 2003 this year called The Network. This album is a follow up to their debut album Money Money 2020, and was a huge surprise. I wasn’t sure where to put it on my top 10 list, but I still wanted to talk about it because it ended up being much better than the actual Green Day record we got this year. They experiment with lots of different sounds on this album, and while some of them are definitely meant to be satire, there are some seriously great songs on here that give me hope that future Green Day albums could be much better.
Favorite Song: Fentanyl
Now, on to the top 10:
#10 Last Room by waveform*
Tumblr media
The first of many surprise additions to the list, Last Room is a really great album stocked full of songs that are all pretty short, but each stands out on its own. waveform* is really good at making songs that capture the listener’s attention. This is definitely a band that I want to hear more of, and I’m excited to dive deeper into their discography this year!
Favorite Song: Miner’s Lullaby
#9 Petals For Armor by Hayley Williams
Tumblr media
After years of being in Paramore, Hayley Williams has finally released her first solo album! Paramore’s 2017 album After Laughter experimented with lots of different sounds, and was also a very personal record lyrically, so it’s no surprise that Hayley took a similar approach here. These songs are a way for her to open up about her life and branch out more and she succeeds on this record. Even if you’re not a fan of Paramore I highly recommend checking this one out.
Favorite Song: Why We Ever
#8 Some Still Morning by Handsome Ghost
Tumblr media
I’ve already talked a bit about this album (it was even my first review on this blog!) but I feel like the more I’ve listened to it, the more I’ve started to love the songs that first stuck out to me. I still feel like some of the songs sound a bit too similar, but when the duo branch out and try new things on this record, it’s some of their best work.
Favorite Song: Christmas In Jersey
   #7 Healer by Grouplove
Tumblr media
Something that has always been true about Grouplove’s music is that it is insanely catchy, and this holds true with their newest record Healer. I’ve liked a lot of their music before, but for some reason this album connected with me on a way that their other music hasn’t. I feel like this album came out at the perfect time for me, because it has a lot of themes about growing up and dealing with the crazy world we live in. If you’ve never listened to Grouplove and want to check them out, I think that Healer is definitely a good starting place.
Favorite Song: Hail to the Queen
   #6 Folklore by Taylor Swift
Tumblr media
I’ve had a history of really disliking Taylor Swift’s music, especially her earlier albums. I guess for those it was due to overexposure, but with some of her more recent albums (especially 2013′s Red) I actually found there were certain songs I actually liked. Her albums as a whole, however, have always felt bogged down by their singles which often don’t sound like they fit with the rest of the album. When I heard she had announced an album coming out that night, I was very curious. After listening to it, Folklore fixed every issue I’ve had with her previous albums, and I love how she’s shifted her lyrics to focus on telling stories. I didn’t expect a Taylor Swift album to end up on my top 10 list for any year, but 2020 was definitely full of surprises!
Favorite Song: Seven
  #5 Possession by Joywave
Tumblr media
I had discovered Joywave one day on YouTube by accident, and immediately wanted to hear more from them. Their songs are always so unique and creative, and after seeing them open up for Bastille in October 2019, I got really excited for their third album. They have incredible energy on stage, and that energy is reflected perfectly in their music, especially on this album. It was one of my most anticipated records of 2020, and it seriously lived up to the hype.
Favorite Song: Half Your Age
#4 Figure by Into It. Over It
Tumblr media
Yet another accidental discovery, Figure blew me away the first time I listened to it. I was immediately drawn in from the first track, and each song delivers something truly special. I had to listen to this album all the way through multiple times to really take it all in. I planned on doing a full review of it here, but felt I needed to look into the lyrics and the meanings behind the songs a little more to fully understand it. Now, Into It. Over It has been on repeat for a good chunk of the past couple months.  Evan Thomas Weiss is an incredible songwriter and really talented musician, and I seriously recommend checking out his music.
Favorite Song: Brushstrokes
#3 Leave What’s Lost Behind by Colony House
Tumblr media
Colony House are a band that I discovered a few years ago, and their first two albums quickly became favorites of mine.Their intriguing instrumentals along with Caleb Chapman’s powerful vocals make their music really fun to listen to, and like Joywave they put on a fantastic show even when they’re just the opening act. I had been looking forward to the follow up to 2017′s Only The Lonely, and this record definitely lived up to my expectations, even if I prefer the latter album a little more. There are definitely some incredible songs here, a few of which are among the best in Colony House’s discography.
Favorite Song: The Hope Inside
#2 Zeros by Declan McKenna
Tumblr media
For whatever reason, I didn’t listen to this album when it first came out, but when I did eventually get around to listening to it I fell in love. Declan McKenna has always been a really great songwriter, but this album in particular shows just how talented the 22 year old singer is. Blending sounds from different eras of rock along with some more modern production, Zeros is an absolute masterpiece of an album.
Favorite Song: Twice Your Size
   #1 Dreamland by COIN
Tumblr media
Even though Zeros got really close to taking the number one spot, my personal favorite of the year is still COIN’s third album Dreamland (not to be confused with the Glass Animals album of the same name also from 2020). COIN is a band that just keeps on getting better, and even after losing a member back in 2018, they’ve still managed to grow and improve their sound. Dreamland takes everything I’ve loved about COIN’s music and adds to it. If you haven’t listened to this album and are a fan of indie pop bands like Flor, Smallpools and Young the Giant, then you should definitely give this album a listen!
Favorite Song: Nobody’s Baby
Thank you for checking out my list of my favorite albums from this past year! I’d love to know what you guys think and if we have any of the same albums on our list :)

Rantaro or Angie for the ask meme?
How about both.:3
Rantaro Amami
Fight them or fight for them
Fight for them. And fight Tsumugi for killing him. :P
On a scale from 1-10 how excited do I get when I see them
God fanart of Rantaro is so SO good. He’s so freaking pretty! So probably 7.
Would I smooch/date/etc
Yeah probably. He’s just such a sweet and loving person, as seen with his dedication to his sisters. So anyone would be lucky to date him honestly.
Do I write for them
I’ve written some drabbles for him! At least one Saimami and one Amamatsu for sure that I remember!
Their defining color (color I most associate with them)
Green obviously :P
My nickname(s) for them
Avacado and Taro are pretty much the only ones I can think of.
Something I have in common with them
We both have sisters and are protective of them! (But man I wish I could paint nails like Rantaro.)
Song I associate with them
The Woods by Daughter. It’s perfect for him I think, the sound, the lyrics, the melancholy tone, everything about it screams Rantaro to me.
Who do I ship them(and type of ship ex. Romantic or brotp)
Big Amamatsu fan here. But I like him and Korekiyo as well. I love him and Ouma as a brotp. Rantaro is super shippable though, so I like a lot of ships with him.
Idea for an imagine/fanfic for them (if I have one)
I think a fic where he and Korekiyo go to search for his sisters and fall in love along the way would be adorable. Especially if once they find them, Korekiyo learns what a non-toxic relationship with a sister is. There would be a major opportunity for self growth on both sides there.
Also I want to write a super fluffy fic of Amamatsu cooking together, because it would be adorable.
Angie Yonaga
Fight them or fight for them
I freaking adore Angie. So definitely wanna fight for them. But at the same time, Angie like desperately needs someone to fight her on things and tell her no. So a little of both!
On a scale from 1-10 how excited do I get when I see them
Probably 8. I adore Angie fanart. She’s just the cutest.
Would I smooch/date/etc
As much as I adore her, she would walk all over me so I wouldn’t want to date her. But I’d hug her for sure, because Angie gives amazing hugs apparently.
Do I write for them
I’ve written her into my oneshots as a background character, and she’s honestly one of my very favorite characters to write. I haven’t done it often, and I’d like to do it more, but writing Angie is an absolute delight.
Their defining color (color I most associate with them)
Yellow and white. It’s hard to say which is more defining for Angie to me.
My nickname(s) for them
Cult leader? Is that a nickname?
Something I have in common with them
I think we both use our optimism as a shield sometimes. Angie is just way better at it than I will ever be.
Song I associate with them
It’s a tie between Tongues by Joywave (This song also has the most wild music video ever lol) and Dust Clears by Clean Bandit.
Who do I ship them(and type of ship ex. Romantic or brotp)
I don’t hate her with Korekiyo, but I also don’t exactly love it either. I’m not sure if I ship Angie with anyone. I think she needs some personal growth before she gets serious with anyone honestly.
Idea for an imagine/fanfic for them (if I have one)
I’d love to explore Angie’s mind. What she’s really thinking during the killing game. Does she really have blind faith in her god, or does she know she’s actively using them as a crutch and a shield? It’d be an interesting to see how much of her own words she actually believes.

🌺💘🌷 get to know your mutuals ! when you get this, it means someone wants to know more about you, so list 5 things about yourself you want your followers to know. they can be as simple as your age or as complex as your deepest fear, as long as it’s something you’re comfortable with sharing. when you’re done, send this to 10 people you want to get to know better ! 🌷💘🌺
aw i love this so much, thank you for sending it to me ava 🥺💖
ive probably included most of these in previous asks that were similar to this but i have a bunch of new followers so! here are some facts about me:
1) im super into film photography. i love learning about it and taking pictures is so soothing and exciting to me. getting rolls developed is SO thrilling like you never know what the photo is going to look like!! it’s like a fun lil surprise every time. capturing moments is very important to me and i have a bunch of photo albums that i love looking back on
2) i’m quite tall! i’m around 6′0 so i tower over a lot of people and i really love my height
3) i love english bulldogs! so! much! i have a collection of stuff with bulldogs on on them: socks, mugs, i have a small statue of one (like am i okay), calendars, etc etc. it’s A Lot but i’ve never pet one before and that’s just super tragic imo
4) my favourite band of all time is joywave! i rarely have like a bunch of songs saved from the same artist, but i love absolutely everything they come out with. seeing them live and like soooo up close was definitely a highlight in my life. im upset that ill be missing their concert in august since they dont come to canada that often at all just every couple of years
5) i went to school for social service work! i have my diploma and everything. im really really passionate about mental health and everything that surrounds it. unfortunately, i’m not in that field at the moment and i’m not sure i ever will be but i’m really glad i went to school for something that i love learning about. also college was the best two years of my life

Happy The Mall day! Here are my controversial track rankings
1. Replay (just fucking fantastic)
2. Carousel (I love the new sound)
3. Sunshine & Milkshakes (bop with a dark twist)
4. Everything’s the Best! (bop with a dark twist)
5. Skin (Mood)
6. The Adirondacks (a vibe)
7. Throw Your Coins, Make A Wish (Not doing it for me I’m afraid)
8. Flatline (A little too cliche and boring I’m sorry)
I am not ranking track 1 or 10 because they are short and I dont really have an opinion on them.
I am really surprised that I liked the non-singles so much! I was honestly kind of disappointed with the singles so I’m glad the rest of the album sounds really diverse. I really love that they’re branching into new sounds like rap and house. It’s refreshing and really cool to hear Daniel singing in different styles! Best Frenz is still very “pop” sounding, which is fine, but I think The Mall could’ve been more balanced. As a concept album I think it’s cute.
I am very excited to have several new Joywave songs to put on repeat ad infinitum :)

Please talk a bit about what kind of music you like. Favorite genres, bands, artists? Do you play any instruments?
oh lord this is the rabbit hole. alright. I'm not good at music unless you count belting house of the rising sun in the shower and never learned to read it or play an instrument. But in general I like indie/alt rock (whatever the fuck that means), usually with an electronic/psychedelic rock influence. definitely have some favorite tracks that don't fit that at all (looking at you kesha singles) but my faves all fall in there somewhere.
my favorite bands/artists rn in order of how long they've been favorites are jack white, phantogram, and red vox. I've been in love with jack and garage rock since I was little and listened to white stripes and black keys albums on repeat... i got special permission from my parents to use our iPad and stream a jack white concert on spotify late at night when I was young... watched him launch his stupid amazing record player into space during a 3 hour car ride... I love this man ok. His new shit is so weird and it's great listen to lazaretto and boarding house reach esp ice station zebra and lazaretto
phantogram is a somewhat newer obsession, I got to see them in concert this summer which was amazing. I've liked them for a couple years now. really amazing duo, super cool electronic rock sound with some pop elements. I hold their older stuff close to my heart and the new singles out are fantastic too and I'm super excited to see what they do next. ik some older fans don't love the new sound but like. idk. I think esp considering what they've been through recently the shift makes sense and I really like it tbh. just compare the feel of eyelid movies to three (particularly answer) to into happiness. you can feel it. anyways huge fave and they always seem to come out with something new exactly when I need it. I'd check out when I'm small, mister impossible, fall in love, or any of the three A-sides (esp same old blues and you don't get me high anymore) if you're interested.
I got into red vox over the summer. I've watched vinny stream for a really long time and always meant to look into his music and. Well. Finally did. I listened to into the garden and then all of their first album and then all of everything. I like a lot of the bands that influence him, I grew up on classic rock and like some of the newer stuff like tame impala. hes also just a super cool guy lmao. Good intro tracks would probably be into the garden, atom bomb, job in the city, cemetery window, and back to school.
some other bands I really like but don't know as much about are joywave (electronic/indie rock, try facility, travelling at the speed of light, destruction, or anything off content), son lux (wikipedia says they're considered experimental lmao. They sound like the most amazing movie/TV show soundtrack you've ever heard. really interesting mix of instruments, vocals are beautiful and almost feel hymnlike at times. read about and try remedy and you'll see what I mean), sir sly (rock, psychedelic, they do some cool things with sampling. try basically anything off don't you worry honey, gold, or too far gone)
notable mentions include idk how, LCD soundsystem, the neighbourhood, the strokes, elo, the mountain goats, lorde, and yeah yeah yeahs
