"A Time for Everything" now covering the Season 3 finale

So much happens in 3x21 "Snow Drifts" and 3x22 "There's No Place Like Home" that I gave each episode two chapters!

"Portal" - on FFN and AO3. Emma reflects on her decision, and a new crisis sends her and Hook on an unexpected adventure.

"Partner" - on FFN and AO3. Emma has to distract Hook's past self and attend her first royal ball.

"Fire" - on FFN and AO3. Hook reflects on what he knows about Snow White, and tries to comfort Emma as they grapple with her apparent death.

"Epiphany" - on FFN and AO3. After her time-travel adventure with Hook, Emma makes an incredible discovery, and introduces two very important people.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

A Parody

(written last Christmas, posted in anticipation of the upcoming winter)

It’s beginning to look a lot like fuck this,

What’s with all this snow?

I'm trying to be bold,

But Jesus it is cold!

I really just would rather stay at home!

It’s beginning to look just like the Arctic

The snow, is piling high

I shovel it off the ground

But there’s more when I turn around

No matter what I try

I dig and I shovel

Pray for the sun while

More clouds come rolling in

I hock and I heave

And hope I can leave

Back to the warmth within

But that is when the snow plow drives down the street again

It looks like there's an ice wall

At the end of my drive

I barely got it clear

When the plow went driving near

I start to fear that I will freeze alive

I go get a bigger shovel

What else can I do?

My next door neighbour

Has a flamethrower

Wish I had one too

I chisel and hack

And throw out my back

And barely make a dent

I start to cry

Feel like I could die

That’s my whole day I've spent

Look at the sky, you'll never guess, what Mother Nature sent

It's beginning to feel a lot like fuck this

I give up for the day

If the weatherman says there's more

I’m gonna stay indoors

I'll see you in May

His Princess(A Season 3 Killian analysis)

Can I just keep talking about that ballroom scene in season 3, ep 21. Hook has probably been to a lot of balls in his day- probably none that are royal, persay, but back when he was in the king's navy, I imagine he attended one or two in typical period drama fashion. He's spent half a season trying to connect with Emma and reach her in her world, and now she's stepping into his world, and she doesn't stand out, she blends in- she fits in perfectly.

And throughout this scene, he's the one who knows what's going on here, he's the leader who understands everything about how this world works, and yet, he's never any more than smug about it. He doesn't make fun of Emma for the fact that she hasn't yet learned how to do something as simple as the waltz- he just gives her his hand and offers to teach her as they go. He doesn't actually mock her, except to playfully remind her that she was made to be a part of this.

I also want to point out that there's not a single frame in this entire scene where Hook isn't smiling. He's here at a royal ball with the girl of his dreams on his arm, and she's clearly the most beautiful girl in the room, and he's here, with her, holding her close, for her first waltz, and she's a natural, and moves so gracefully and freely, as if she really were the princess she's always been pretending she wasn't.

Hook knows Emma won't slow down and savor even a moment when she has a job that needs to be done, so he savors this one enough for the both of them, knowing that, until they return to storybrooke, or maybe for even longer, he's not going to get another moment like this one, where he can just hold her and smile and pretend it's just so that they could blend in- but then again, couldn't they blend just as well from the sidelines?

And yet, Emma had agreed to dance with him, to stand close to him, to hold his hand and place her hand on his shoulder, her face mere inches from his, and to look into his eyes and smile as they danced.

And throughout this entire precious moment, this time spent together, he smiled, not with the swaggering smirk of a pirate or the dignified airs of a prince, but with sheer, lovestruck delight at the opportunity to dance with his beloved Emma- his princess.

Also, I love how when Hook is talking to Charming, he refers to Emma as simply "my princess." Here, there's no disguise. I don't think he's saying "I'm Charles and Leia is my princess." He's saying "I'm Killian, and Emma is my princess." Those two words are his affirmation that he knows who she is, despite the fact that she's struggled with that identity for the entire season.

To describe Emma as "my princess" shows that, even though she's wrestled with true love all her life, he knows what true love looks like, and he intends to make good on his promise to win her heart. He knows, at least, he hopes he knows, what will happen in the end- once he's proven himself true to her, he firmly believes that she will give herself to him.

But not only is she his, she's his princess. Ever since Emma ended up in storybrooke, she's despised the thought that her parents could be royalty, that she's the daughter of Snow White and her precious prince Charming, and yet, Hook believes that truth about her, that she is, indeed, their daughter, royalty, a true princess. Hook knows who Emma is and believes in her, even before she learns how to believe in herself.
