Pokemon Legends Celebi because talk of the Sinjoh Ruins came up quite a bit. But also ALSO: Pokemon Legends TRILOGY. This photo has been circulating as people begin talks of Gen5 remakes or possibly the fan-named "Pokemon Legends Kyurem." their evidence is seeing our Hisuian starters alongside starters of the same typing.
However, I don't think this is a hint to a Gen5 legends game. Solely because of Oshawot and Snivy.
Tumblr media
To say there's a formula would imply repetition. With Arceus being the only Legends game as of writing this, I doubt they'd use Snivy for Ancient Unova.
For the most part, Arceus went with vastly different starters, pulling from a roster we were already familiar with. They even provided our Sinnoh starters which are much more abundant in the wilds of Hisui (def going to be working on that theory later).
Which is why, our little buddy, Piplup, is our first hint at this being a Legends starter. Piplup being present brings me to one theory: Pokemon Legends Johto is all but confirmed.
but what does that have to do with BW remakes or Unova at all. Well the fact that we see 2 unovan starters.
With Arceus, we received a bit of information regarding the Sinjoh Ruins, a place only accessible in the postgame of HGSS.
But wait, what about Tepig? glad you asked because I think this will continue, leading UP to what will be our gen5 remakes...or sequels.
Ladies and gentleman, I'm not only theorizing that with the newest Unova game, we will not only see Black3/White3 but we may also see a THIRD Pokemon Legends game, which somehow ties into the events of B3/W3.
Afterall, Pokemon Legends, while a spin off, is a MAINLINE game.
In fact, I would say as to go a step farther, Pokemon Legends Johto as well as what I believe will be Pokemon Legends Kanto, in which Tepig is our fire Starter and we get to explore Kanto, during the war, and maybe even we invent Porygon.
Also Commander Kamado is confirmed to be from Johto, given how he switches to a Kansai accent when All Mighty Sinnoh begins to wreak havoc.
So like, given how Pokemon LOVES to hint at the next game, seeing as god knows they're already beginning actual development five seconds after starting another game, they would have enough information to instantly confirm what the next game will be.
but also please let it be confirmed that torchic will be a new starter cuz gen 3 is literally my favorite

Question... If WS Donnie was in Pokemon, what Pokemon would be in his team?
Alright! I know you sent this a couple days ago, but I've been thinking long and hard about this.
There's so many obvious picks for Donnie in general: Genesect (he literally is the same color scheme as Shelldon), Porygons, Rotom, Tinkaton, Klinklang, the list goes on!
But that's Donnie.
That's not Weak Spot Donnie!
So I pondered... and pondered... and then did what I always do when I'm stumped: I outsourced.
Now @shiftandshade is just a headcanon machine in general, but I had mentioned Espeon is one of my favorite pokemon and people pair it with Donnie, but I wasn't sure about it and they just so happened to return to me with the most incredible backstory, better than anything I could have come up with so let me present Shade's Weak Spot Donnie Pokemon history:
I feel like he met it as an espeon But like it has such a bad attitude with people Like it's a burnt-out empath pokemon someone abandoned so it's jaded as hell, digging around in the trash looking for food, trying to stay away from people but in NYC it's overwhelmed and skittish (cough donnie meltdown cough) Donnie finds it during one of his escapades that require dark alleys, he's hiding from something or someone after a deal gone bad or whatever It's all scuffed up, fur dull and matted, maybe missing a chunk out of its ear from a fight with a rattata But even as grouchy as it is it can feel Donnie is hurting the same way it is and it puts out its little feelers so to speak Comes and noses at him, figures out he's having a panic attack and crawls into his lap He just kind of latches onto it because warm, soft, even if it's kind of dirty and scrawny it's making little purrs and probably doing something Psychic to calm him down He's so distracted with this weird little espeon he almost doesn't notice his attacker coming back but Espeon is getting pets for the first time in forever and is Not Having It, Psywaves this goon into a wall and Donnie books it still holding onto espeon He kinda forgets to put it down but once he's back to his lair/apartment/safehouse whatever he doesn't want to just leave it…it saved his life, it might be useful (yeah that's the only reason) Takes it in and gives it a bath and espeon is like 'you gave me pets and scratches and food I'm adopting you'
My embellishments come with things like: WS!Donnie would find it difficult or not at all catch any of his Pokemon because he knows what its liked to be enslaved. He'd have conscripted all the pidove in the city to be his eyes and ears. In his 20s I imagine he spent a lot of time with the Trubbish line and Grimer line if only because of their retched poisons fit where he was at. Later, more around now time with reader, I could see after chapter 32 that maybe their garden attracted some grass types (an abandoned Snivy perhaps?) or something that likes to steals vegetables. All and all, his Espeon would still be his pride and joy.
That was a great exercise! Thank you so much!

What does your pokemon team look like? Could you tell us some facts about them, their personalities, their likes & dislikes, etc.?
Absolutely! I love talking about my team. Fair warning, this post got a little long.
As of right now I have 11 Pokémon total. They consist of:
- Apollo (Espeon, male): My partner and very first Pokémon. I found him wandering around lost when he was an Eevee. He was smaller than average, and I suspect he was abandoned by his family for being the runt. He’s a loyal companion and is rarely seen inside his Pokéball.
- Frostbite (Weavile, male): I caught him in the wild as a Sneasel. Looking back now, he was probably too much for an inexperienced Trainer’s second Pokémon. He was difficult to handle at first. He was a confident and proud Pokémon, and therefore stubborn. He didn’t listen to commands and overall wanted nothing to do with me. However, he ended up being a loyal Pokémon. He can be aloof at times and also a little stand-offish towards strangers, but I wouldn’t trade him in for anything.
- Spark (Kantonian Raichu, male): I caught him in the wild as a Pikachu. Despite not being native to Unova, Pikachu have been showing up in recent years due to mass breeding and people releasing them or the Pokémon getting loose. They’re an invasive species here, and it’s encouraged that people catch them to help decrease their population in the wild. I was just lucky enough to find one. Spark is friendly and playful, but he gets distracted easily. He absolutely loves strawberries. They’re his favorite treat.
- Hunter (Herdier, male): I caught him in the wild as a Lilipup. He never showed any interest in evolving into a Stoutland and wears a collar engraved with small Everstones. He’s great with people, children, and Pokémon alike, but he’s also very protective of me and the rest of my team. He’s not much of a fighter and instead is more of a companion Pokémon.
- Ares (Unfezant, male): At the time I was still building my team and looking for a new Pokémon to catch. Pidove can be found pretty much everywhere in Unova, so I decided to catch one to expand on my team. Ares is the norm for his species. He’s incredibly loyal, but he doesn’t take well to strangers.
- Jet (Floatzel, male): I found him injured along a riverbed when he was a Buizel. I never found out what happened to him or how he got there. He gets along with my team just fine, but overall he prefers to keep to himself and mostly stays away from people or Pokémon he doesn’t know. He also has a bit of a temper.
- Pyro (Charizard, male): I bought him from a reputable breeder here in Unova. Other than his “rebellious teenager” phase as a Charmeleon, Pyro has a mellow personality and an overall excellent temperament.
- Malachite (Shiny Serperior, male): He’d been rescued from an illegal breeding mill as a Snivy while I was volunteering at a rescue facility. He was extremely malnourished at the time. The Pokémon rescued hadn’t been given nearly enough food, water, or sunlight for any species, let alone Grass-types. When the Pokémon were finally stable enough, trusted volunteers were selected to foster some of them at home. I was one of them. In the time I had Malachite he became attached to me, and I was fond of him as well. I officially adopted him once he was healthy.
- Napoleon (Samurott, male): I caught him as an Oshawott while I was on vacation in Undella Bay. He is the complete opposite of how you would expect a Samurott to act. His personality is similar to that of a puppy Pokémon. Instead of being serious or regal, the norm for his species, he’s playful and energetic. I suppose he never grew out of it when he evolved. I got him shortly after adopting Malachite. The two became close and are now rarely seen apart.
- Storm (Jolteon, male): I found him as a stray in Castelia City. He’s a friendly and easy-going Pokémon. He especially gets along with younger Pokémon and is very gentle with them.
- Athena (Hydreigon, female): I adopted her at a rescue when she was still a Deino. She had been seized from an abusive Trainer who wanted nothing to do with her in the first place. The Trainer even went as far as to encourage her other Pokémon (all Fairy-types) to attack Athena. Despite her rough start and Hydreigon’s fierce reputation, Athena is a sweetheart. She’s very docile for her species, though she can be a little shy around strangers. She constantly seeks out attention from me. I believe it is a form of reassurance for her.

Pokeshipping : SuMo Analysis
Disclaimer : Pokemon is a series of video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company under the Pokémon media franchise. IT IS NOT MINE.
Warning : I acknowledge that Pokeani is a show for kids, it is not a romance show and the main character will remains 10 years old. There will be no canon ship EVER. Even the current and most popular ship ever will sink with newer companions replacing the current ones. What written below is my interpretation and observation of Pokeshipping. I will censor other ships and other character's name because this content is made from a pokeshipper for fellow pokeshippers ONLY. I will talk about other companion in this journal to prove some points. While the content isn't offensive, it might still be sensitive for devout shippers. You've been warned!
Let's get to Pokeshipping. I want to say Happy SatoKasu day to all of us Pokeshippers!(GMT+7) This article is especially written to celebrate our favorite ship and to share my character analysis in Pokeshipping while watching SunMo. This article will also be published in my dA.
When I binge-watched newer season and reached Sun & Moon. I was awed, the series has revived my love for both Pokeshipping and Pokeani. The art style and storyline is so fresh. They also throwed in so much Ash x Misty scenes together in SunMo. I saw those scenes as Pokeshipping hints, especially knowing Ash's character.
Here, I will give you the hints that I saw :
1. Ash was willing to give Misty his Z-ring (In JP, Removed in Dub)
Tumblr media
He didn't immediately said "No". This statement sounds crazy, right? But, this response actually tells a lot about Ash's reaction.
First, we must understand Ash's character. He is the type of person who knows boundary of his belongings and time. For example : when he refused D4wn’s request to try Misty's lure in DP and when he refused XYZ team’s sudden break to help with the video.
Ash always knows what to do. If he doesn't wanna do it, he will answer it clearly. He can be convinced later, but he is a decisive guy. So, we know when he reacted with only shocked face, he wasn't gonna say "no" to Misty.
Tumblr media
(Ash gave immediate and clear answer to D4wn's request, although later, they were shown bickering about the lure and we don't know if they share it in the end or not)
Tumblr media
(Ash gave immediate and clear answer to Bonnie's request, although later, he were convinced they all need some rest)
2. Ash still holds on to Misty's handkerchief and still bear affection towards her
Talking about giving things, I found it interesting that Ash didn't return Misty's handkerchief in SunMo.
Okay, looks like he doesn't bring that handkerchief everywhere. Just like Misty's lure, he was shown without the lure in SunMo. Which makes sense, Ash was on holiday with Delia and Mr.Mime. He didn't even have his fishing rod with him in the beginning of season. He probably keeps her lure and handkerchief in his room stashed safely in his desk, so that he doesn't lose it like he almost lost it to buizel due to his clumsiness.
Tumblr media
But after watching S3ren4 holding on to Ash's handkerchief in XYZ, the parallel in both scenes made it clear that : holding on handkerchief symbolize bearing affection towards the owner.
Which only mean one thing if he is still holding on to it up until now. (Journeys)
Tumblr media
(This is my own thoughts, but when it comes to storytelling, you can't say this is just a coincidence)
3. Ash remembers small details about Misty
I love how they made reference to earliest episode of Pokemon with Caterpie to show that Ash remembers every small detail of Misty. Even her Psyduck.
And he is the one who make remarks about Misty. He didn't need to be reminded.
As you see, Ash is forgetful. He tends to forget some important facts , like his Snivy's gender and an eventful meeting that made a girl fell head over heels in love with him. Even the fact HE IS ALOLA LEAGUE CHAMPION. So him remembering every little details of Misty is just awesome Pokeshipping moment.
Tumblr media
Ash making comments about Misty when no one asked.
Tumblr media
In S3R3n4's defense, that moment was pretty sweet. And it's quite a big event for kids to get lost in woods. But he needs to be reminded twice. Plus with handkerchief.
Tumblr media
What does it mean when you forget your pet's gender? Is she not that important? Or are you just forgetful? Either way... Ash forgot important detail like this.
Tumblr media
Ash forgot he's Alola League Champion
4. Ash think of her everywhere he goes
Tumblr media
What's more to say? They might not meet everyday, but Ash knows which places Misty will love. And that's LOADS... for a forgetful guy. Misty totally lives rent-free in his mind.
5. Up until SunMo/Journeys episode JNS04/奇跡の輝き!シンオウ伝説!, Misty is the only girl Ash got jealous over
Ash is surely popular with girls. Let's name the girls who kissed Ash over the seasons : L4t1as (4lt0shipping), S3r3n4, M3L0Dy. Yet, there's only one girl whose attention he wasn't willing to share with others : Misty.
Tumblr media
His jealousy almost killed him. From OS93: Navel Maneuvers episode
Offscreen funfacts :
- Pokenchi segment shipping SatoKasu (From daily satokasu : this answer is not a hint, but an innocent question and and answer) still YEAH ! Say YES to Pokeshipping, I'm so happy it's mentioned in national TV
Tumblr media
- Brock's VA hinting someone like Kasumi to be Ash's wife
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Q : WHAT KIND OF PARTNER WOULD THEY BE IF THEY GOT MARRIED?
Satoshi : Satoshi is cheerful, kind, and reliable, so I think he'll be a good father. I'm sure he will raise a kind and loving family, but he's a bit of a scatterbrain, so he'll probably get  scolded by his partner a lot too (laugh).
Doesn't that sound like Kasumi?
^_^ Well, that’s the end of this article. Hope you all enjoyed it!

TWST Pokemon AU Part 4: Scarabia
It wasn’t until I started working on this that I realized that I used all three Unova starters 😅
The previous post (and my favorite post so far) can be found here
My masterlist with my other works can be found here
Also, it has come to my attention that some people have been unable to see my blog. I logged out of tumblr and searched up my account and it said I didn’t have any posts, which obviously isn’t true.
If you can’t see my account or know someone who can’t see it, please let me know. Tumblr may just be glitching, but I just want to be on the safe side.
Kalim:
Tumblr media
“Oshawott!!~ I have some more food for you!”
You loved Kalim, you really did, but his tendency to spoil your already somewhat spoiled Pokémon drove you nuts.
Your Oshawott was rather quirky, often wandering off and doing things by itself.
Back in your world, you had grown so used to Oshawott exiting its Pokéball by itself and wandering off that you didn’t really bat an eye at it.
It was hard to break that habit after arriving to Twisted Wonderland, which caused some problems.
After a few incidents with Oshawott walking unsupervised around the school, specifically a dorm full of wild beastmen, Crowley ordered you to never let Oshawott out of your sight.
It was hard enough trying to keep track of Grim, whom your beloved Pokémon didn’t get along with, but trying to keep track of Oshawott and Grim was near impossible. Especially since your quirky, carefree Pokémon just couldn’t seem to grasp the dangers of this new world and continued to wander off when you weren’t looking.
If you kept your eyes on Grim, Oshawott disappeared. If you kept your eyes on Oshawott, Grim disappeared. It was a ‘lose-lose’ situation.
During Crewel’s alchemy class, you were more focused on Grim (considering he was your lab partner) and Oshawott wandered off without you knowing.
The Pokémon made it to the mirror chamber and snuck through Scarabia’s mirror.
After classes, Kalim returned to the dorm by himself since Jamil had basketball practice.
He was surprised to see an otter looking creature floating in Scarabia’s front fountain.
While you and Kalim hadn’t officially met yet, he recognized Oshawott from the entrance ceremony since you had ordered it to put out Grim’s flames.
Of course he got excited at the appearance of the otter Pokémon and quickly ran over to great the Pokémon.
Kalim’s shadow shaded Oshawott from Scarabia’s sun, making the Pokémon open its eyes to see who was interrupting its relaxation time, only to be met with Kalim’s sparkling ruby red eyes as he doted and cooed over Oshawott.
Now your Oshawott was cute, and the little bastard knew it. And, unfortunately for our resident sunshine boy, Oshawott could spot a sucker a mile away.
Jamil returned to the dorm later that he would have liked.
Basketball practice had been cut short when a frantic (Y/n) ran into the gym, asking Ace if he could help them and Deuce find Oshawott.
Floyd decided to join them since he was also fond of Oshawott and, somehow, Jamil got roped into helping them search too.
It was dinner time when Jamil returned to the dorm. They still hadn’t found Oshawott, but Jamil was more worried about the dorm.
He was already imagining the worst scenarios possible after leaving Kalim unsupervised for so long.
The only thing he hadn’t pictured was walking in on Kalim feeding Oshawott grapes, the little otter covered head to toe in jewelry.
One quick call later and a frustrated and annoyed (Y/n) arrived to Scarabia.
Picking up Oshawott, who futility tried to escape, you began shaking off all the jewelry it was decorated with. Afterwards, you irritably marched back to Ramshakle.
You kept a closer eye on Oshawott after that. But any time it managed to slip away, you would always find it in Scarabia with Kalim.
Jamil:
Tumblr media
“At least you aren’t a bug type.”
You needed someone to watch your Snivy.
You had a meeting with Crowley to discuss how things were going with getting you home and work he needed you to do around the campus.
Your Snivy never seemed to be that found of Crowley (which was pretty understandable), so you tried to keep the two separated as much as possible.
You didn’t know how long the meeting was going to last and the Adeuce combo was busy and if you left it alone at Ramshakle with Grim, you were certain you’d come back to a bonfire with the dorm used as kindling.
So Kalim, being a sweetheart, said that you could leave Snivy at Scarabia.
You agreed gratefully agreed and handed your precious grass snake Pokémon to the Scaracbia Dorm leader
Unknown to you, Kalim did this without telling Jamil. The poor vice dorm leader was surprised and annoyed when Kalim returned to the Dorm with a green snake walking beside him.
A stern but short scolding later, Kalim tried to play with Snivy with little success.
You had warned the boy that your Snivy wasn’t really a ‘People-Pokémon’ and preferred to be alone, but, of course, the boy didn’t listen.
He constantly tried to hug the Pokémon, only for it to pick him up with vine whip and set him a few feet away.
While annoyed by the boy, it didn’t want to hurt him.
Jamil spent most of his day watching Kalim chase after a snake monster that so clearly wanted to be left alone.
After a while, Jamil decided to step in and see if he could save the poor Pokémon before it snapped and actually attacked Kalim with it’s Vine Whip.
“Kalim, shouldn’t you feed it?”
“Huh? Oh! You’re right! Let’s see, (Y/n) said that its main diet included vegetables--”
“Let me take care of it. I need to start dinner anyway.”
“That’s a great idea! Here!”
Kalim picked up a disgruntled and slightly irritable Snivy and plopped it in Jamil’s arms.
“Snivy, Jamil is going to take care of you for now, ‘kay?”
“Snivy.” Your Pokémon was pretty indifferent.
After Kalim left, Jamil set Snivy down and headed to the kitchen with the grass snake Pokémon at his feet. The grass Pokémon seemed a bit relived that Kalim was gone, something that Jamil could feel deep in his soul.
A few hours later, you returned to Scarabia to pick up Snivy and were pleasantly surprised to find Jamil and your Pokemon cooking together.
“Wow, Jamil. I’m impressed at how fast Snivy warmed up to you.”
“Hmm?”
You explained to him that Snivy had a trainer before you that it decided to leave and that since then, Snivy had been pretty wary of people.
“Truth be told, I was worried about leaving Snivy here because I believed that Kalim may have been a bit too much for Snivy, but it looks like I was worried for nothing. I’m glad that Snivy is comfortable around Jamil,” You smiled, “You’re truly incredible.”
Jamil felt his cheeks flush a bit as you began rolling up your sleeves.
“Now, can I help?”
Before Jamil respond, Snivy used Vine Whip to lift you up and set you by the door before wagging its vines in front of your face like a lecturing finger.
“Snivy! Snivy-vy Sni Vy.”
Jamil couldn’t understand a word it said, but it sounding similar to how he lectures to Kalim. You seemed to understand perfectly, however.
“Ok! Alright!” You snapped, annoyed, beginning to exit the kitchen while grumbling under your breath.
“One curry mishap and anytime your in the kitchen you become a hazard to society!”
And yet another similarity Jamil could find between him and the Pokémon.

Ash Ketchum: Badass or just bad?
Depends on the saga, and that itself is probably the most frustrating thing about him.
In Kanto, he was a moron, and even kind of an asshole. But I honestly didn't mind that, considering this season's role in the grander scheme of the show. I don't even mind how his Pokemon League journey ended. It was only his first attempt, and considering that he didn't earn most of his badges, his losing because he gambled on Charizard is surprisingly fitting. In fact, it's the perfect symbolism. He lost because he had a lot of power but had yet to earn it. He was a novice, the stupid moments are appropriate for this stage of his journey.
He's definitely come a lot further by the Silver Conference, but he's still depending on Brock and Misty. They're his teachers and they pretty much co-parent him. He's definitely gained power and experience as a trainer but he needs to take the training wheels off. I don't have a lot to say about Johto, but I also think that him gradually phasing his Kanto pokemon out and replacing them with the new ones meant that his growth was framed differently than other series', and maybe that's why I just never got into his Johto team.
To an extent, he does do this in Hoenn. Brock is still around, but with Misty gone the whole group dynamic shifts around. Seeing Ash alone and with new companions in those first three episodes, though? Man did he feel like he had come a long way. By the end of the Hoenn series, he even got a little too overconfident. Though I have soft spot for Hoenn Ash and I feel like he did earn that confidence. Still, few things symbolize how much he still had to learn as him straight up forgetting that Seismic Toss wouldn't affect Brandon's Dusclops. He made the right choice, continuing to travel and declining to become a Frontier Brain.
Everyone knows Sinnoh. Everyone loves Sinnoh. Apart from Tobias. Ash grew as a Trainer more in this adventure than in any other. In no small part due to having Paul as a rival. It motivated him to challenge himself. Gen 4 was where the games really fleshed out the competitive aspect and you can see this reflected in the show. Even the training itself, stuff like the counter shield. The entire storyline of Chimchar. I can bring nothing to the conversation about how incredible Sinnoh was.
We don't talk about Unova.
Kalos on the other hand, was-okay, okay, I'm kidding. I won't do that. But seriously, Unova was such a disappointment. I don't even mind Pikachu losing to Snivy, it's clear that was a "forced loss" plot-wise, that didn't truly reflect Pikachu's skill. But the entire saga was like this. I was joking before, but I'm serious when I say that we don't talk about Ash vs Elesa. What even was that nonsense. Not even Kanto Ash would have done that.
Kalos Ash was best Ash. I like Alola very much, perhaps more than most people, but I can't ignore the perfection that was the XY arc in the anime. Ash was a rock star in this storyline. He was at his most likeable, had far more agency, was very much competent and even inventive - and had his best team, I'm saying it. I don't even mind that he didn't get mega evolution, he pretty much got his own exclusive secret mega. Should have won the Kalos league though.
Alola, despite being one of my favorite arcs in the anime and finally giving Ash the league victory...it was honestly the sharpest reset he's gone through since Unova. Sorry, I love the whole school idea, but after he was the runner up in the Lumiose Conference...Ash should be like, an assistant teacher. Not a student who even feels the need to cheat. Doesn't help that they made him go from looking sixteen to looking seven.
Journeys is fun. I haven't seen a lot of it but this arc makes me happy because they actually committed to having Ash become and stay a league champion. They didn't retcon it, and he doesn't feel like he's reset at all. His team is a powerhouse, and they even gave him a Lucario at long last. This gives me hope for the future, that he won't get reset anymore.
So, yeah. His trajectory is a lot of ups and downs. He catches a fair number of pokemon, all things considered. Sure, he'll never "catch em all" but I actually prefer quality over quantity for his pokemon - since they basically retire from the series after they finish a league on the active team. That's why so few of his Unova mons are memorable, there were simply too many.
And yeah, he releases far too many of them, but again - it's not like he was ever going to use Greninja and Goodra again after Kalos. A release is a departure from the show, just like Ash does to his teams when he goes off to a new region. Some of them are pretty stupid (He gave his Primeape away to a total stranger for no reason, mere hours after finally getting through to him. You suck, Ash.) But other make sense. Anytime he releases a pokemon for the sake of their happiness, I can't complain. But I will complain when he leaves them with other people for "training" Dude, that's your job! It's right there in the name!

For the Character ask.
Jareth.
My otp for them:  I don't have one right now? Everyone I've shipped him with, I put elsewhere in the end. Guess he's on the market. Wonder who'll get him...
My brotp for them:  Okay I'm gonna direct you to the TBTC AU part of this questionnaire because that explains the whole reason this is a thing
Any other ships:  So here are flings I've given him in the past: Christopher Carrion (Abarat), Pinkie Pie (MLPFIM), Loki (MCU), Mok Swagger (Rock and Rule), and of course Sarah because more than half the people who've loved this movie have thought about that one
My favorite nickname for them:  He needs no NICKNAMES
Their role in TBTC, the only AU I have:  All right. I've got Adam Taurus on the board, and he's looking to collect forces to use against the Huntsman (ADJL) and Archibald Snatcher. So of course he rounds up all sorts of goblins, trolls, and other supernatural "underground dwellers" because that's the exact sort of people those two would victimize, and Adam's all about riling up the victimized until he gets a weaponized revenge crusade. The members I have lined up right now are Prince Froglip (The Princess and the Goblin), Gnorga (A Troll in Central Park), Chef and Creek (Dreamworks' Trolls), Angor Rot (Trollhunters/Tales of Arcadia), and, of course, Jareth. There is a very strong divide between those who can't stand music (Froglip, Chef, Angor Rot) and those to whom music is their life (Jareth, Creek, Gnorga) and there's some infighting in this group because the musicians won't SHUT UP FOR TWO MINUTES. Oh, and also, Demyx was one of his past "Tobys" (as in: won him off a family member who wished him away and couldn't solve the maze in time) who lost his heart while trying to run away from home, so there's a strange and awkward history there.
My favorite outfit they wear:
Tumblr media
Defining color:  Is "glitter" a color
Would I date them:  You know what? Yeah. It'd be a fun time. Maybe I should make a "goblin queen" s/i because there's a LOT of potential here.
First impression:  I just remember fixating on Labyrinth as a whole when I was VERY smol and it was one of my introductions to fantasy media.
Current impression:  To this day, he's still just iconic and great. A treat every time I revisit him. And I'm glad that his presence turns the whole film into "Villain Songs: The Movie"
Hogwarts House:  I kinda wanna say Hufflepuff. Hear me out. Even though he's the king, he doesn't really spend much time...using that position. He doesn't seem to want that much outside of a constant party and possibly an heir that he wins in the little game. Anyway, when he does get to capture somebody's wished-away family, he does in a weird way get a warped fatherly attachment. You can see he's prepping for a life where he gets to raise Toby in a castle of song and dance as one of his own. He also has his fixation on Sarah, whether you read it as romantic or otherwise, and it leads him to trying to make his realm her fantasy so she'll give up and stay. Now, his treatment of Hoggle and others kinda goes against the Puff philosophy, but I just...don't see him as a scheming Slytherin. I don't. And he's obviously not a Gryffindor or a Ravenclaw.
Which Pokemon starter they’d be: I can too easily picture him with a Snivy on his lap while he sits on the throne. It eventually grows into a Serperior that he keeps wound around his shoulders like an accessory.

bridge!! what's your favorite type of pokemon? how about your f/os? (for whoever you'd like! maybe a certain ginger genshin man 👀) what's your favorite starter zone? is it the same as your f/o? and finally: favorite attack/move? :O :D
YESSS POKEMON QUESTIONS!!
I suppose I can answer them for.. you know...
Tumblr media
FIRST OF ALL!! my favorite pokemon type is definitely poison, but my favorite pokemon is a tie between snivy and salazzle!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a weakness for reptile pokemon 😭
Tartaglia, on the other hand, definitely loves water types. I mean, he's got water powers, and he throws a narwhal at you during his battle in-game, so... 👀
He's been shown to love fishing too!! So I imagine he's caught all his pokemon this way 🥺 his favorite? Probably samurott or wailord lol...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for starter zone, I assume you mean the first town? mine is definitely twinleaf town from diamond and pearl!! it's the first game I ever played, so it feels like home... I think Tartaglia might like Pallet town! It's right near the ocean he loves, so I think it would make him feel safe 🥺
hmm, my favorite attack/move.. well overall I'd have to say leaf tornado!! It's a signature move of snivy and when I was little I used to pretend to be a snivy LMAO, so it has sentimental value.
TYSM, this was super fun to answer!!

Who's your favorite starter? Also favorite eeveelution? AND what do you think about fennekin. Also want you to know thinking about Pokemon has made me remember the time a pokemon roleplay account fell in love with me when I was like 12 and it was just. Lucario
HELL YEAH OLIVE THANK U FOR THE POKEMON ASK 💛💛
firstly! fennekin is a VERY good starter. when i first played xy, i chose chespin, but man was the evo line… such a let down 😔 i wasnt too fond of any of the starters at the time, but over the years (especially after playing the first pokkén tournament game), i realized how superior the fennekin line is to the other two. a fucking?? elegant fire wizard fox??? are you fucking kidding me????? incredible. exquisite. PEAK fucking design. i think we deserve more wizard themed pokemon. absolutely incredible.
my personal favorite starter, now thats a loaded question!
turtwig used to be my favorite, since they were my first starter! they do still hold significance for me, however! they are not really much of my favorite anymore
i think my top favorite starter at the moment is actually oshawott!!!! i think the black & white anime seasons played a small part in my favoritism towards them,, but still. oshawott is just a really cute and really good starter. however im not impressed with the evos for them either 😔 dewott is kinda good but i just feel,,, samurott was too big of a jump from the two to really fit in my opinion. i feel oshawott shouldve been given a bit more of a playful final evo design, and less,,, serious. like yes, oshawott & dewott are pokemon that act tough & serious!! but thats part of it!! oshawott (and im assuming dewott too) still have a playful and lovey feel to them, while samurott is just very cold and distant. i feel that fit really well for the snivy line, but oshawott shouldve been given smth a lil bit more… soft… in a sense… i just feel like the whole gun-on-all-fours thing just wasnt it
HOWEVER! my two runner ups for fav starter currently have to be chimchar & scorbunny!!!!! i have no qualms about their designs necessarily. love scorbunny’s!!!!! they did with cinderace what they shouldve done w/ infernape (and in a sense, samurott too). scorbunny started with a very energetic and happy personality!! and that was still shown through cinderace, but as well as the addition of cinderace being a bit more serious as a “pro soccer player” -esque theme. i could probably talk about this for hours and if i could draw i promise i would make redesigns.
but thats not important!!!! anyway backstory time i used to have a long lasting unbridled hatred for chimchar ever since i first played pokemone pearl (i think it was bc of the type matchup 😔) but recently i got over that and came to the realization that like. chimchar? thats just a funny monkey. just a fun little dude. theres no reason to hate them. they just like to have fun. and now chimchar is one of my top favs :-) 💛
ALSO THATS SO WILD i bet that happened on q didnt it. it sounds like a q thing to happen. fuckin lucario rp acc… shbfjdnIffnjsn

Pokemon: The Series!
The first character I ever fell in love with
Tumblr media
My girl Misty. My first anime crush ((and lowkey why i like redheads today))
A character that i used to love/like, but now do not:
nobody really.
A ship that i used to love/like, but now do not:
A*ourshi*ping. At first it was cute and then the fanboys kept spamming that Serena was the best written character in the show // best of Ash’s friends // it was canon // Misty was abusive/didnt have feelings for him (she canonically did/does) and all that i soured on it
My ultimate favorite character™:
this dumbass i love Brock lol
Tumblr media
Prettiest character:
Cynthia is hot af
My most hated character:
Tobias cause this dude is clearly just some Gary Stu wall made explicitly to make Ash lose. DUDE HAS TWO LEGENDARIES. my boy Ash beat 2 of em who knows wtf else he had. Rayquaza? Mew???? fuck him lmao
My OTP:
the og. the ship before i knew what a ship was. Ash and Misty lol
My NOTP:
uhh dont really have one.
Favorite episode:
As a kid it was always when Ash’s Charmeleon evolved into Charizard. I swear I replayed that evolution scene on VHS at least 1000 times. I think I lost the tape though.
But nowadays prolly the whole Ash vs Paul fight in the league. (3 episodes but it counts)
Saddest death:
Nobody really dies in Pokemon but Bye Bye Butterfree DESTROYED me as a little 4 yr old back in 1998 lol
Favorite season:
Pokemon seasons are kinda random so ill just do regions/arcs. But its e between Kanto+Orange Islands and DP! Kanto/OI has the comedy and great Ash/Misty interactions and DP has the best overall arc imo and is the peak of Ash as a character. His arc honestly feels like it concludes in DP so thats why they had to nerf him in BW
Least favorite season:
Black/White. They nerfed Ash way too hard. Going from taking out a Darkrai and Latios to losing to a lv5 Snivy, forgetting type weaknesses and LOSING to a guy who forgot to bring a 6th Pokemon in the league.
smfh
Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate:
nobody
My ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave:
Kanto Ash is such a little asshole but i love him so much. I WISH the anime would bring back his snark
My ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave:
JAMES
My ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship:
i dont have one
My ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship:
Jessie and James lol

Pokemon?
Mollie forgive me I’m not actually super knowledgable about Pokemon but I’ll try my best because I do love those little guys
the first mon i ever fell in love with:
I had a Charmander stuffed animal as a very small child, that counts right? I used to suck on its little flame tail. It got all matted and disgusting.
a mon that i used to love/like, but now do not:
Squirtle was my starter for the first game (which I never beat because I played it on my friend’s Gameboy). I don’t really hold a lot of nostalgia for ol’ Squirtle even though I still think it’s the best of the OG starters
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not:
can’t believe I actually have an answer for this. so I watched Pokemon 4ever. (you may know where this is going.) and I was lowkey shipping Ash and Sam. until the end of the movie where it is revealed that Sam was young Professor Oak the whole time. screams of horror
my ultimate favorite mon™:
SWINUB. THINKING ABOUT SWI. THINKING ABOUT NUB. THINKING ABOUT SWINUB.
prettiest mon:
Snivy is my overall favorite starter and I think all its evolutions are gorgeous also
my most hated mon:
Watchog
my OTP:
Jessie and James obviously. Is there any other answer
my NOTP:
Ash’s Mom/Mr. Mime
favorite episode:
I haven’t watched many episodes of the anime so I’m going to reminisce about that scene in Black and White where you and N go on the most ominous ferris wheel date ever
saddest death:
IN POKEMON??? jk i’m assuming it’s that scene where Ash gets petrified to stop the pokemon from fighting each other. i don’t remember what happens
favorite season generation:
Generation V
least favorite season generation:
Generation... II? I feel like it has a lot of stinkers
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate:
I think Dragonite is a piece of shit and a complete letdown from the vastly superior Dratini/Dragonair lineage
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave:
everyone always is so mean about the ‘item’ pokemon like Klefki and Litwick but I love every single item pokemon go away i don’t care if its uncreative character design
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave:
Swinub again because I think it deserves better than to evolve into Piloswine and Mamoswine both of which are ugly
my ‘this mon is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship:
all mon are good mon.
my ‘they’re kind of cute, but i’m not too invested’ mon:
Okay so for this post I was looking at a list of pokemon I’d written up a while ago that I know I kinda like and one of the items was Metanite->Mettaton (where Metanite evolves into Mettaton). When I google these I do not get Pokemon. I’m 100% sure that I was referring to real Pokemon when I wrote this but for the life of me I don’t remember what. Pretty sure they’re Steel-type. Can you help me out here

Pokemon Black Nuzlocke - Part 1
Hey! Wanted to try something different because quarantine is boring and since where I am, lock down is happening again, I thought about doing something I thought I’d never do: why not attempt a Nuzlocke of one of my favorite Pokemon games? Sounds crazy, I know. But I could at the very least put the game down in between sessions. And I thought by doing one, it would be interesting - and I kind of wanted to work on a Pokemon OC idea based on that run.
One I hope to get to drawing soon enough. But for right now, it is Nuzlocke time. (I should be finished Shield, but honestly I’ve gotten too bored and disappointed with that game to even finish the main story.)
So if you’re interested in reading the little notes I have regarding this Pokemon Black Nuzlocke, you can read more below. And if you don’t, that’s fine too!
So with all that being said, I'll try and keep things in bullet points since I’m not entirely sure how to format this. But I’m going with Nuzlocke Rules as follows:
I can only catch 1 Pokemon each route that is my first encounter. If it faints, I can’t have any other Pokemon from the route. (Gift Pokemon also do count as an encounter if given in a specific area. Such as the one before the first Gym counts as my Dream Yard encounter.)
However, I am involving a dupes clause in case I encounter the same Pokemon back to back on routes. So I can’t have two Lillipups but I will allow myself to capture a Purrloin and Liepard if they are on separate routes as encounters. But if the Purrloin has evolved to a Liepard by the time I encounter the wild Liepard, I can use Dupes clause to not capture it. (I hope to not have to use this rule. But I just don’t want a team full of the exact same Pokemon when I have to face the champion.)
If a Pokemon faints, I can not use them again since they are considered dead.
All Pokemon on my team must be nicknamed. No exception.
Shiny Clause is here in place by some random odds a Shiny Pokemon appears. I’ll catch it, but I won’t use it.
As challenging as it would be to play without items, I will only restrict myself from using the battle enhancing items such as X Speed.
Any additional ones shall be added if I feel like things are getting too easy.
Now to the actually notes regarding the beginning of this Nuzlocke.
Current name of my character is Avi. It is a placeholder name for the time being. But I like how it could be a nickname.
Starter Pokemon is Snivy. !!!Female!!! Nickname shall henceforth be Queen. (Could have probably gone Fire or Water Starter, but I am bias toward most Grass Starters.)
Route 1 encounter is a female Lillipup. Nicknamed Puppy.
Fought N and Queen was brought into yellow health. Switched out to Puppy for the easy victory. Kind of forgot N just decides to challenge you out of nowhere, but thankfully I was healed for the battle beforehand.
Route 2 encounter is a female Purrloin. Nicknamed Ghost Girl - Yugioh Vrains reference. Later, I came to regret the name choice.
Ghost Girl nearly died to a critic hit from a Level 4 Patrat. Survived on 1 hp.
In Striaton City fighting Cheren at the school. He manages to burn Ghost Girl and reduce her to 2 HP. Still alive as Puppy finished off the Tepig. Puppy also finished off Purrloin and defeated Cheren.
Dreamyard Patrat also brought Ghost Girl to red yet again. Purrloin seemed nice but appears to be a liability.
In the Dreamyard, I took the Panpour to help out against the upcoming first Gym battle. Despite the fact I doubted to use it in the long run, I decided to name him Fountain
Striaton Gym is primarily a Fountain and Puppy show in the battles. Got the first badge after beating Chili without any losses.
Fennel comes to bug me about Dream Mist and stuff while my Pokemon are still injured. So I healed everyone up before heading there. Bianca just watched as a Munna got hit by some Team Plasma members before one of them decided to come and hit me. Hit me as if battling me. Which i quickly defeated one no problem. Then the other met the same fate.
Thankfully a Musharna stepped in while Bianca was too scared to do anything. Fennel also got her Dream Mist which I will probably have no use of considering the fact everyone has moved onto the Pokemon Switch games and forgot Fennel even existed.
Also Fennel prevented me from leaving town so I got to hear about the useless feature I’ll never fully get to use. And I doubt to hear from her again.
I decided to visit the little daycare center instead of getting a new encounter right away. Just because I wanted to level up primarily Puppy and Queen. Because Ghost Girl and Fountain were not going to be big party members in the long run. At least I do not think so.
But on Route 3, Cheren challenged me after I beat up twin girls. And I wasn’t entirely confident about the fight. Though I did have Pokemon around the same level as Tepig, I was starting to realize how much I did not remember regarding levels of opponents of this game. And how I might need to prepare for upcoming Gyms and battles.
Though luckily, Fountain and Puppy managed to carry me to victory. Then Team Plasma decided to steal a young girl’s Pokemon and I have to go with Cheren to fix it while Bianca comforts the young girl. Which, both of us proceeded to wipe the floor with the Grunts no problem. Plus it did help in the double battle they decided to keep biting Tepig, leaving Queen to get off a Growth before using Vine Whip to knock them both out.
I did decide to get my encounter in the caves once Team Plasma left and found a Roggenrola. It was female - which usually it was hard for me to get female Pokemon whenever I played. So I tried catching it, since even though I could not fully evolve it to its final form, I didn’t think it was a truly bad Pokemon to pick up. So Pebbles joined the team! Never used a Roggenrola but I kind of hope if she survives it will make the fourth Gym battle easier.
Now before I went grinding up Pebbles to catch up and everyone to a similar level, I needed to get my Route 3 encounter. Though I had completely forgotten the Blitzle trainer existed, so when I switched in Pebbles she nearly died. I kind of forgot that right now, those defenses suck. And it might have also been a crit. That or Shockwave. And out of everything for my runs, I fear the random crits knocking out my Pokemon. Second is me suddenly being under leveled or not prepared for a battle.
So I wanted to try my luck in the dark grass for a double encounter to increase my odds of finding a more unique encounter. But I got a Blitz, who was a male and I caught him in a Heal Ball. His name is now Zigzagzop because funny reference. And he was holding a Cheri berry for some reason. Nice.
This route was also when I realized I could have gotten a Pidove, but at the very least using them to level up Zigzagzop would be nice.
And here is where I’m going to be ending any story progression and solely focus and trying to get everyone up to Level 15 who is on my primary team. Because I did look up there is a Trainer Battle with N where he’s around Level 13. Though me being dumb did not realize I had Queen attack a Patrat twice with Vine whip and it was about to unleash its powered up attack. Luckily I had Pebbles who had Sturdy tank the hit and then switch back to take it out.
But I am considering maybe leveling everyone up to around 18-19 to prepare for the Lenora battle. Mainly because I know she is going to be a challenge as none of my team knows any fighting type moves. That and I recall her Watchhog using Retaliate giving me lots of problems when I was younger.
I have no real plans besides trying to either tank out things with Pebbles or pray I can easily knock out Watchog. Not sure if there are any tips or tricks regarding how to beat that in terms of Nuzlockes. But next time I update everyone, I should have beaten Lenora with hopefully no deaths, but considering the situations… I got a feeling I’m going to mess up and get some deaths. And I got a strong feeling it may involve Ghost Girl considering the amount of times she has nearly died already. Or if I screw up Pebbbles’ Sturdy.
Team Recap:
Queen - Female Snivy (Lvl 14)
Puppy - Female Lillipup (Lvl 14)
Ghost Girl - Female Purrloin (Lvl 11)
Fountain - Male Sampour (Lvl 12)
Pebbles - Female Roggnerola (Lvl 11)
Zigzagzop - Male Blitzle (Lvl 12)
Deaths: 0

Hello
I originally was gonna do typical soul silver randomizer run but I think this’ll help me prepare on actually being good at pokemon.
When my computer comes and is hooked up i’ll likely attach a actual emulator for a pokemon white run.
FOR NOW, consider this my test run where I just describe shit to you without actually showing images.
The Pre-Run.
So I picked out the girl trainer because A. I like her design more B. I’m a girl B).
I forgot they give the trainers natures so i’m curious to see what mine will be?
I tried to look up some nuzlocke tips but the fucking website gave my phone constant pop up ads that I couldn’t close :/. So i’m just gonna go with whatever and probably die a lot.
OH another reason I picked this game is that the pokecenter and market are combined. I had to constantly travel through that one cave after the first gym leader and heal up.
Instead of writing my name because if I make this I comic I will not be writing it as me (writing as myself is too difficult imo) I went with a name generator.
Tumblr media
Was kinda stuck on which one to go with but I ended up using Sandra. Just sounds the coolest. Also fits the most comfortably.
Another reason to go for pokemon white is that I really like the rivals in this game, they really feel like friends i’ve had before lmao. Cheren used to be my favorite out of the two when I was younger but I think i’m preferring Bianca nowadays.
Cheren has a unique impatience foot tap sprite lmao.
I’m going with Oshawott, because Oshawott is my favorite starter :).
Snivy is always a 2nd choice pick though, sorry tepig!
I feel it’s kinda appropriate though that Cheren has a Snivy and Bianca has a Tepig.
Of course Bianca wants to fight and it’s gonna get rowdy lmao, I got a good hit on the first round and tepig lost a good chunk of health. I think it only lasted 4 turns at most.
I switch over to Cheren and i’m a little nervous, when I comtemplated on random run or not Cheren got my Oshawott’s health allll the way over to red. So crossing my fingers.
I got another good hit towards the end before his leer could’ve been put to use. Woohoo!!
I forgot that you change the nature and class stuff till now so lmao. I almost put my title to preschooler while checking WHOOPS.
I set class to Lass (idk what else to put it to) and nature to Hasty.
My male Oshawott has a Lax Nature and Often Scatters Things.  Now what to name it....

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - Gen 8 Retrospective
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This Generational recap itself might be a bit on the shorter side, since I already said my peace on the games themselves and their less than stellar impact on the fandom before I even started them. (Not that there isn’t a lot I’m talking about here today though, hoo boy.) Though just know between a repeat playthrough and my opinion on the Pokemon dropping as I've analyzed them more, I'd say my final verdict is that they're a decent enough swan song to the way Pokemon games used to be that made Gym battles feel special again but lacked in a lot of other areas. 6/10 overall.
Though obviously Gen 8 isn't done yet. Since DLC is on the way, as I've said several times already. My general thoughts on the concept of Pokemon DLC replacing the traditional “Third Version” is good. For one thing I'd much rather pay $30 for access to new content immediately over paying another $60 for a “Pokemon Armor” version that had most of its new content back-loaded in the postgame. $30 is still steep... but it's better. And of course, the prospect of releasing more new Pokemon via DLC is a good one too. Hopefully releasing DLC rather than a full game every year will relinquish some of the workload off Gamefreak... so perhaps we can get smaller batches of new Pokemon released mid-generation to help mitigate just how many Pokemon felt like they didn't get finished in time. But also hopefully it'll mean Gen 9 will be all the better when we get there... Gamefreak has stated they're really challenging themselves with the next major Pokemon games so hopefully they're taking the more level-headed criticism to heart and it's not all talk but we'll have to see.
Yeah, that's about all I have to say about the state of Pokemon as of right now, neverminding my multiple rants and tangents since I've already gone to great lengths to state that Gen 8 isn't as good as I might've initially thought. I still like it overall, and it's probably still not my least favorite Gen... but it's very much like Gen 4 with an EXTREMELY mixed bag. Certainly felt like for every excellently designed Pokemon they had below-average flunky that feels like it should've gone back to the drawing board once or twice. But even all that aside, one of my more annoying sticking points with Gen 8 is the severe lack of new animals.
So in place of my usual ramblings on my thoughts on a generation as a whole, let's do a little Compare and Contrast. Let's look at the past few Generations and see just how noticeable this flood of species redo's is. Green checks are significantly new enough animals, Red crosses are for animal origins that have been done before, Yellow slashes for Pokemon with vague or heavily mixed taxonomic origins, and Grey circles for Pokemon that are disqualified for being Objectmon, since we've yet to get repeats of those. (Also disqualifying Gen 8's regional evos other than Obstagoon since it's not necessarily their fault that they're repeats.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are there arbitration in places? Probably. But I feel like the point still stands that Gen 8 was waaaaay too reliant on touching up on animals already covered in Pokemon before. Especially when there's still so many animals that have yet to get a Pokemon to their name. The one plus Gen 8 does have in this regard is that it has a few more “taxonomically vague” Pokemon than usual. But repeating animals in and of itself isn't all that bad, if you make the repeat different enough to be interesting in its own right. The one thing you could do wrong in that regard is to just make your monster notably more “normal” compared to the Pokemon it's repeating. So how does that hold up?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As much as I've established that one's a crow and the other's a raven, the two animals are still very much similar creatures. But I do feel like Murkrow and Corviknight are differentiated enough while both still being a “fantasy” creature in their own way. Murkrow is very much a gangly, cartoony crow while Corviknight covers the more majestic side of corvids.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another one that's pretty blatant is that we now have two regions with a Ladybird as the common bug. Orbeetle does however get to be more accurate to the Ladybird life cycle, starting out with a larvae and ending with the beetle. Again, Ledian and Orbeetle are very different flavors of the same creature, Orbeetle not skimping out on any outlandish elements. In fact, it's more visibly outlandish than Ledian was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where things start to get hazy. I've stated that Nickit and Thievul are sadly my least favorite fox Pokemon to date, simply because it has the least to offer imaginatively than all the other foxes that accompany it. Ninetales has the kitsune thing going on, while its Alolan variant covers Arctic Foxes. Zorua is a fantastical take on the tricky nature of foxes by combining aspects of shapeshifting kitsunes or tanookies while throwing in a bit of Kabuki. And Fennekin grows up to be more of a wizard. Thievul is very much a stereotypical red fox while having the trickster nature of foxes that's not only been done by Zorua before, but also in a much more stereotypical thieving way like a Swiper the Fox sort of thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wooloo always struck me as odd ever since it turned out it wasn't the region's common Normal-type. I can excuse plainness in the common woodland animal since they're rather uniformly not terribly interesting (and arguably are like that by design). So it turns out it's more of a common early-game fodder just like Mareep is, but Mareep is just a smidge more interesting by being elemental, and also it turns into Ampharos, a weird little bipedal lamb with little flippers for some reason. Which is reasonably more imaginative than a Pokemon that's mostly just a sheep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sandaconda is another one that feels significantly fantastical and unique compared to its previous serpentine cousins. The only snake Pokemon beforehand that was hugely different from the template of what a snake usually is was Snivy. Sandaconda is even unique as far as cobra monsters go, with its “hood” being a big ol' sac that it keeps its projectile Anakin-repelent in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Centiskorch is a little iffy. It's cool that they turned a real centipede's grappling maneuver and turned it into an even more effective weapon via its heat spots. But in terms of body shape it's significantly more normal looking for a centipede than Scolipede's almost horse-like proportions, isn't it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another iffy comparison since they're both fairly “regular” looking Octopus monsters. But even so, I'd count it as a point against Gen 8 since there's been more than plenty of time to come up with a cool and unique body type for an octopus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's better! Eiscue, while normal-looking if you only count the penguin body, is still a funny and imaginative take on a penguin monster that is a completely different flavor from Empoleon's stern look to boot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another dodgy one to justify. There's neat theming in there, but there's hardly any denying that an elephant that rolls up into a wheel and rolls around is notably a much weirder take on an elephant that Copperajah going by an elephant's body shape to a T.
Tumblr media
Had they gone for a look more purposefully weirdly geometric like they SEEM to be going for, I probably would've given it a hand-wave, but even with that in mind, Copperajah is pretty vanilla in terms of Elephant monsters. Especially compared to Donphan.
...So even then, it's pretty mixed in that regard. Some Pokemon feel like worthwhile additions to the biodiversity, but others I can't help but wonder what the point was. Did Wooloo really need to exist in a series that already had Mareep? Couldn't they push Copperajah's concept further to better contrast with Donphan? Having repeats isn’t BAD, pretty sure every Gen past the 2nd has done them. But it’s hard to find sticking points on Gen 6 and 7′s repeats. Aurorus is totally different from Meganium. Vikavolt, while being much more close to realism in body structure compared to Pinsir, is still a vastly different fantasy creature just on account of having a gun for a face. And the whole Goomy line is almost nothing like Magcargo. And all that is WHILE still bringing in plenty of new animals to play with.
So yeah, I hope all that can help with understanding why I was a little harsh on Gen 8. It's still not my least favorite, cause we still got a ton of good out of it, and I would much rather have a mixed Gen of “Some Really Good, Some Not So Great” over Gen 2 and 4's “Some are good but the rest are really plain and boring.” But of course, as per usual, we gotta do the lists...
Top 10 Favorites of Gen 8:
Tumblr media
Like I said, the new Pokemon that are good are REALLY good. Still struggled to make a Top 10, for good reason!
Top 10 Favorites Overall:
Tumblr media
That said, there wasn’t a ton of impact on my Top 10. Top 50 maybe, but not here.
Bottom 10 Least Favorites of Gen 8:
Tumblr media
Sadly there was plenty I was just plain not a fan of. Has there ever been a Gen where I just straight up dislike the whole Bottom 10? Hmm...
Bottom 10 Least Favorites Overall:
Tumblr media
And tragically, this Gen did make a pretty deep cut into my least favorites, oof. It is an unholy image to not see Gallade be all the way to the left up there.

Corviknight and Eternatus aren’t just there because I ran out of traditionally pretty ones, just so you know. There’s something about a sleek, nearly all-black design that is genuinely gorgeous-looking to me.

I’ve probably said it already but I am legitimately ecstatic with Regional Variation being a mainstay feature now. There is INFINITE potential with the concept and totally didn’t deserve to get ditched after a single use just in Alola. In fact I think it’d be rad if they do any more remakes they retroactively made “Sinnohan” or “Hoenn” forms of Pokemon. I thought they might’ve made some “Kantonian” forms for Pokemon in Let’s Go and redesigned a few modern Pokemon to look a bit like they were designed back in the 90s... but sadly that didn’t happen. Despite how cool it would’ve been. But Kanto is sacred ground that cannot ever be changed, I guess...

Best G-Maxes:
Tumblr media
I still love the concept of G-Maxes, and we’ll probably get a few more before Gen 8 is done entirely. But it does stink that the concept in the end felt a little half-baked. Speaking of which...
Pokemon That SHOULD'VE Gotten G-Maxes:
Because G-Maxes wound up being locked to only be for Gen 1 or 8 Pokemon, with only a handful of exceptions. MAYBE they’ll stretch into other Gens in the DLC, but until then lemme just make a personal wishlist of SQUANDERED potential. Though I’ll limit myself to Pokemon that are only in the current Galardex as to not be here all day.
Tumblr media
I’m sure if you pay attention to the Fakemon scene at all, you’ve already seen a few G-Max Dhelmises where the seaweed has grown so massive that it’s now able to possess an entire haunted ship. And they are CORRECT to make such a thing because GOD what were they thinking NOT doing that?!? It’s right there under your noses!!!
Tumblr media
Still bummed there was never a Mega Vanilluxe... but this could easily make up for it! A towering snowing mountain of ice cream is a super cool idea for a kaiju-size ice cream monster, maybe even ditching the icicle shaped cone in favor of having it rest in a “bowl” of ice!
Tumblr media
Like??? Hello????? Are you telling me you’re making Kaijumon over here and you’re NOT gonna make a giant mecha?????????????????
Tumblr media
Because a giant living beehive deploying swarms upon swarms of Combee is a badass concept just by itself.
Tumblr media
Like c’mon this one was REALLY staring you in the face. A region set in Poke-England and you’re not gonna make a funny giant Zeppelin?
Tumblr media
Just trying to imagine a colossal haunted chandelier is giving me chills by itself. Especially if you were to make it look elaborately regal and all that.
Tumblr media
I’ve not got a specific idea, you’d just think they’d compensate for the lack of a Mega form.
Tumblr media
G-Max Rillaboom has me feeling like this one’s likely to not happen, since I imagined a cool idea for a G-Max Trevenant was to make it a giant Deku-Tree looking haunted tree with a colossal trunk and even bigger canopy.
Tumblr media
I guess Butterfree already had the spot taken for “Mothra stand-in”, but I feel like Frosmoth has just as much cool potential for a G-Max form as Butterfree did. Especially with the powdery snow scales it has.
Tumblr media
Perfect opportunity to give Goodra a giant, more monstrous slug-like form. But no dice there either. Maybe next form gimmick...
Tumblr media
Okay, C’MON. We KNOW they weren’t that bothered about giving G-Max forms out to Pokemon that already had Megas. This is the most obvious one of all! ESPECIALLY since its defacto-Mecha Godzilla got a G-Max but it didn’t.
Most “Unfinished” Feeling:
Tumblr media
Since “least favorite” doesn't necessarily meant “unfinished.” (As much as I dislike Toxel, it doesn't really strike me as “not done.”) Not that I have clairvoyance on Gamefreak's internal workings, but some of these Pokemon definitely feel like they're not up to scratch with the series's usual quality standard.
My Disappointment is Immeasurable and My Day is Ruined:
Tumblr media
To pick on Gen 8 one last time... and since it was a running gag anyway, here's the Pokemon that just crush my dreams the most. Except Appletun, mostly. It's good enough to be let off the hook. The rest? They were things that were on my wishlist of things and animals I would've LOVED to see get turned into Pokemon, only for my hopes and dreams to sink faster than the Titanic. Considering a majority of concepts within Pokemon don't come back, if not for a very long time, these Pokemon mean that I have to reluctantly strike a cake monster, a snowman, a coal monster, a train monster, a sea urchin, a pie monster, and some fresh Lapras attention off my wishlist. Sigh.

With two rounds of DLC coming, the main Pokemon review series probably won't be back until the tail end of this year shortly after Crowned Tundra is released. I am excited to get to talk about some of what they've shown so far, but I'd rather wait until the content is released and we know everything about the new Pokemon and Regionals. There will however be at least one more little bonus article about Gen 8 and the future of the series, but I wouldn't expect it to be out for a while. Before the DLC is out probably, but still a long ways off.
