Hello.
Please direct business inquiries to [email protected].
I’m Kura (@akakumoeteru), a fan artist currently active in MDZS fandom. I mainly draw Wangxian atm but will eventually branch out into other danmei as well such as SVSSS and TGCF. You can check my tag list for more specific filtering.
With regards to my MDZS content specifically, I focus on novel and audio drama canon with the occasional piece based off the donghua. While I do draw AUs as well, I pull characterization, concept, and designs primarily from novel/audio drama and sometimes the donghua as well when novel design elements are unclear. I have watched CQL, but consider MDZS!WX and CQL!WX separate ships and do not draw CQL content. I understand that people on Tumblr tag these two interchangeably, but I feel this should still be stated for those who do make the same distinction.
This account is also MXTX rule compliant, as in fixed top!LWJ/bottom!WWX and I do not switch or separate them. This is, however, only a description of my own interests and content and not a repudiation of what anyone else may like.
I’ll slowly bring older pieces over here but in the meantime you can peruse my older art on Twitter.
Anyway, I think that’s it! (I know my art has occasionally floated over to this site in the past but now that I have an account here I’d appreciate if people stop reposting my stuff onto this website. :’D)

Hey there, Greyfell here! Welcome to my Tumblr page~ (most likely for art haha)
Tumblr media
Shades of Greyfell here, or Greyfell for short!
I actually had this account since I started my art career around 2017, and used to repost my stuff from DeviantArt, Twitter and Instagram here but decided to private all of my old posts for a clean slate!
But now I'm a freelance artist with art commissions as my primary source of income, and also streaming on Twitch (and sometimes YouTube) as a Vtuber / VArtist with my OCs Gurei Zurealis and Hyroscheil as my avatars (displayed below respectively).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most likely expect my artworks to be slowly published here in the next few days, with several of them compiled in their single posts.
And yes, I've been planning to come back here for a while now thanks to Twitter shenanigans in the past few months, but haven't gotten the mood and strength to do so but hopefully this is one step for it!
So yeah just hoping I can slowly get the hang of getting active here later on, so for now enjoy this very first post of mine after a long while~

Braylor Masterpost
Tumblr media
(Sherlock: The Sign of Three, 2014)
Disclaimer: All media shown on this post is not mine. All Tumblr posts will be credited to their respective owners, unless stated otherwise. The only thing I own is the compilation of the posts and media shown in this masterpost. Please do not repost without credit.
Intro
In this masterpost I will be cataloguing the coincidences, overlaps, and references present online between the singer Taylor Swift and the actress Brie Larson. Over the past several months, initially beginning with the release of the Captain Marvel film that Brie starred in and ramping up with the release of Taylor’s 7th album Lover, there have been an increasing number of connections and coincidences between the two. At the behest of several other accounts on Tumblr, I decided to compile a masterpost containing as many examples of such coincidences as I could. This is not meant to offend anyone. It is simply an exercise in observation.
Vocabulary
Braylor- a “ship” name, a word referring to the friendship and/or relationship between Taylor Swift and Brie Larson (@jennyboom21).
PR- shortened form of public relations. Public relations is the practice of deliberately managing the spread of information between an individual or an organization and the public (Wikipedia).
Aesthetic- a particular theory or conception of beauty or art: a particular taste for or approach to what is pleasing to the senses, especially sight (Merriam-Webster).
Beachella- a phase that Taylor Swift went through back in 2016 where she bleached her blonde hair (Urban Dictionary).
Easter Egg- A hidden item placed in a movie, television show, or otherwise visual media for close watchers (Urban Dictionary)
Old Hollywood- Classical Hollywood cinema, classical Hollywood narrative, the Golden Age of Hollywood, Old Hollywood, and classical continuity are terms used in film criticism which designate both a narrative and visual style of film-making which developed in and characterized American cinema between the 1910s (rapidly after World War I) and the 1960s, and eventually became the most powerful and pervasive style of film-making worldwide. (Wikipedia)
Premises
In this masterpost I will assume that A) both Brie and Taylor are not straight. Whether you want to label them as lesbian, bisexual, or queer is up to you. Additionally, I will assume that B) both Brie and Taylor are either in some form of PR or otherwise non-legitimate relationship with their supposed significant others. This means that they are not dating, engaged, married or otherwise in a relationship with these men
Background
In the upcoming weeks to the release of her first single ME! With Brendon Urie, Taylor began a countdown across her social media platforms, ending on the date of April 26th, 2019. A significant amount of hype was generated around this countdown, and many fans speculated as to what it would mean. Many suspected new music, and were proved right when she released the music video for the song at midnight Central Standard Time.
On the same date, the much anticipated movie Avengers: Endgame was released in theatres nationwide. The film was anticipated greatly by many as it would serve as a conclusion to the events of the previous film, and would signal the end of the six original Avengers’ involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel was released earlier in the spring (March 8th, 2019), detailing the origin story of Captain Carol Danvers, played by Brie. Much of the hype online, specifically in female oriented circles, was generated due to Brie’s involvement in the film.
On April 5th, 2019, Unicorn Store, which Brie directed and starred in, was released on Netflix after distribution rights were initially held back since the film’s initial release was September 11th, 2017. Fans of both Brie and Taylor’s work were were quick to note the aesthetic similarities between Unicorn Store and the promotional posts, music videos, and styling choices of Taylor during the Lover era. This is where we begin.
Just to note, the coincidences are listed in no particular order.
Time 100 Gala
Both Brie and Taylor attended the Time 100 Gala on April 23rd, 2019. Brie was there to promote Avengers: Endgame and Taylor was there to promote Lover.  Taylor performed there. During her song New Years Day Taylor used female pronouns. During Taylor’s performance, Brie was allegedly sat near Taylor’s friends and family and almost fell out of her chair. Additionally, the pair were seen talking throughout the night, but neither publicly confirmed it.

The pictures below help confirm that the pair did indeed talk in the previous source.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Met Gala 2016
Both Brie and Taylor attended the Gala, but there was no known interaction between the two of them. However, some pictures that surfaced later beg to differ.
Tumblr media
(@jennyboom21)
It’s hard to see what’s going on, I’ll admit. It appears that there is a group of attendees in an elevator. Brie is the figure in the silver dress closest to the man taking the picture. Taylor is behind her, in a similar dress. Her face is much clearer in the mirror reflecting her image. We know this is her because A) this was during her Beachella phase and B) she wore a silver dress that night.
In addition to this photo, there is a striking similarity between the dresses they both wore that night. Is it possible they might have shared the same styling inspiration?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source
(@jennyboom21)
Looking at these photos, it is clear that the two women in silver dresses that were in the elevator were Taylor and Brie. Despite never publicly acknowledging their interaction, it is clear that the two at least shared an elevator that night, and possibly more.
Alex Greenwald
“In 2013, Greenwald began a relationship with actress Brie Larson. In May 2016, Larson's representative confirmed that the pair were engaged. On January 10, 2019, it was reported that Greenwald and Larson had called off their engagement.” (Wikipedia).
Some fans have speculated that Greenwald is not straight. This is not a coincidence per se, but it does point to the supposed use of PR strategies involving Brie’s personal life.
Similar Styles when playing guitar
Both Brie and Taylor are fond of posting videos of them playing guitar at home. Their attire in such videos is strikingly similar. Below are some videos of both Brie and Taylor singing.
Issues by Julia Michaels (@briesonoflars)
Pieces of Us by Mark Ronson and King Princess (@briesonoflars)
Dancing with a Stranger by Sam Smith and Normani (@briesonoflars)
Needy by Ariana Grande (@briesonoflars)
God is a Woman by Ariana Grande (@briesonoflars)
King of My Heart by Taylor Swift (via Youtube)
Both dress in a similar way that some fans have noted is not the way that society perceives a straight woman would dress.
Association with LGBT Individuals
Brie hosted SNL with Janelle Monae and is good friends with Tessa Tomphson. Not a connection, but goes to show that she is an LGBT+ ally.
Taylor is a known friend of many LGBT people and supports many LGBT causes. Just look at the You Need to Calm Down video.

Grace Kelly
Grace Patricia Kelly (November 12, 1929 – September 14, 1982) was an American film actress who after starring in several significant films in the early- to mid-1950s became Princess of Monaco by marrying Prince Rainier III in April 1956 (Wikipedia).

Brie wore a Gucci dress to the LACMA Art and Film Gala on November 2nd, 2019.
Tumblr media
Taylor wore a similar dress in the opening sequence of her Me! Music video.
Brie cosplayed as Grace Kelly for Cinespia during a showing of the film Rear Window.
Source (@/brielarson)
Both Brie and Taylor’s outfits above are very similar to Grace in Rear Window. Taylor has previously said that she loves Old Hollywood and it often inspires her style. The dresses the pair wore are an obvious nod to Grace’s iconic dress.

The Archer
The Archer is a song by Taylor from her most recent album. The song takes the fifth slot on the album, a spot which Taylor reserves for her most emotional songs. Fans have long speculated as to which archer Taylor was referring to, if she referencing a specific one at all. Theories range the character Artemis from Greek Mythology to popular culture with the likes of Katniss Everdeen. The point is, this mysterious archer is significant.
Brie seems to be incredibly fond of picking up new hobbies, including playing guitar, rock climbing, and most interestingly, archery. Connections were quickly made between a picture posted on Brie’s Instagram story and the message of Taylor’s song. Could Brie be the archer that Taylor sings about?
Tumblr media
Styling Choices
Tumblr media
(@/carolmfdanvers via twitter)
Brie attended the LACMA Art and Film Gala on November 2nd, 2019. As shown above, Brie was seen wearing silver cat earrings that had blue eyes. Brie has stated before that she is allergic to cats and does not like them, and reinforced this during her promo for Captain Marvel, because in the film she had a multitude of interactions with a cat, Goose.
While filming the Me! Music video, there is a scene where Brendon Urie presents Taylor with a small kitten. Taylor later found out that the kitten did not have a home, so she adopted him and named him Benjamin Button, an homage to the story of the same title by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Benjamin is pictured in the post below (@/TaylorSwift via Instagram). Notable features of the cat are a white coat with brown accents, undeniable cuteness, and striking blue eyes.
Additionally, for a woman who hates cats, she sure does talk about them a lot. She mentioned cats in an interview on Ellen and in an interview with iMDB she mentioned watching a cat documentary. Perhaps someone has slowly begun to change her mind?

“Captain Marvel but of Music”
Taylor Swift is a mentor on NBc’s “The Voice” this upcoming season. In a promotional video, via NBC’s The Voice Instagram account, Blake Shelton, a judge on the show, referred to Taylor as “the Captain Marvel but of Music”. Why didn’t he call her the “Wonder Woman but of music’? Wonder Woman tends to be people’s go to character when referencing female superheroes. Maybe Taylor told him of her love for the Captain?

Halloween 2019
The link below shows both Taylor and Brie retweeting fans dressed in costumes from their various performances on Halloween. Admittedly, many celebrities are known to do this, but the timestamps of the retweets are oddly close.

Vanity Fair Oscars After Party 2016
At the 2016 Oscars Brie won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Room (2015). She was seen attending the Vanity Fair party afterwards. Taylor, who also attended that evening, was seen at the party as well. The article below, via the online publication Hollywood Life, chronicles an interview in which Brie was asked if she stayed out all night. “When Kelly asked Brie if she stayed out all night, she joked that there was no way she stayed out partying with Taylor and Lorde all night.” The original interview was aired on “Live! With Kelly and Michael” on February 29th, 2016.

Kacey Musgraves
With the release of the Lover album, a multitude of popular artists and celebrities took to social media to express their support for the album. Among them was Kacey Musgraves, a country singer who has made waves in recent years for putting progressive themes in her music. The singer confirmed that she and Taylor were on good terms and promoted the album on her Instagram story.
Over the summer Brie attended a concert that Musgraves put on. She also covered one of her songs on her Instagram. Six degrees of separation, anyone?

Taylor’s back in the You Need to Calm Down music video
This is Taylor’s back in the video.
Tumblr media
(@/TaylorSwift via Instagram)
This is Taylor’s back in 2017 during a performance promoting Reputation. It was hard to find a picture of her back, other than in the music video (above), but I did the best I could.
Tumblr media
(GQ online publication, August 25th, 2017)
The two photos are different. In the first photo, the muscle is far more developed. There is clear definition is the deltoid, trapezius, and latissimus dorsi. Here is a link to a diagram of the muscles in the back. Now, admiditally she could have beefed up a lot in between when the two photos were taken (she was seen at the WeHo gym recently), and fans have noted a slight healthy weight gain between her previous album cycle and the current one. However, The first photo is very similar to Brie’s back. Brie has been hitting the gym a lot, and easily could have the muscle definition in the first photo.
Now, here are Brie’s back muscles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both were taken in the Spring promotional tour for Avengers: Endgame. The overall shape of her torso and the muscle definition are much more similar to the first photo than Taylor’s is. This observation is in no way meant to body shame Taylor or Brie. It is simply a comparison of their backs pertaining to the You Need to Calm Down music video.
Taylor on Avengers: Endgame
An article from AV Club commented on the countdown on Taylor’s Instagram. They theorized that either she was releasing new music or she was really excited to see Endgame. The site even commented on Captain Marvel’s addition to the Avenger’s squad.
Taylor appeared on the Ellen show last Spring to promote her new album. Ellen asked her what some of the worst theories were regarding fans guesses about the Easter Eggs she planted. Taylor responded that some fans thought she had something to do with beating Thanos in Endgame. Taylor responds that she had nothing to do with the film, but that she had a song coming out the day of the movie release and she had a song from her album Reputation called Endgame.

Emma Stone
Both Brie and Taylor are good friends with Emma Stone. An idle observer such as myself wonders if they ever hung out together. After all, Hollywood is a notoriously small town.

Commissioned Art
Brie commissioned artist Carly Jean Andrews to do a piece of art for her house. Andrews stated that Brie told her “just do whatever you want”. The piece is of a blonde woman with bangs who is surrounded by butterflies and flowers. Who is another woman we know that fits such a description? Hmm...

The Red Jacket
Both Brie and Taylor were seen wearing a very similar red jacket on separate occasions. Brie wore it to Disneyland and to a meeting at Netflix headquarters. Taylor wore it on an outing when she was papped. It almost seems like it’s the same jacket, because it falls shorter on Taylor than on Brie. This is because Taylor is taller than her. It seems like they are sharing items from their respective closets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silver Earrings
Brie wore some sick earrings while promoting Captain Marvel and Endgame. Who also wore the same exact earrings? Alex Morgan, who is good friends with Taylor. 20 bucks said Alex saw the earrings on Brie, phoned Taylor to ask if she could borrow them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brie’s friends watch the Me! Music Video
Faye Megan Orlove is a friend of Brie. She is a tarot card reader with the Instagram username @/fayeorlove. During a get together that Brie was at, Faye posted a picture to her Instagram story of them watching the Me! Music video.
Tumblr media
The Rainbow Shirt
Taylor was seen wearing the shirt below at a rehearsal for a Reputation show during Summer of 2018. Brie posted a photo of her in the same shirt. It seems like they dipped into each others closets again, because Brie fills out the shoulders more than Taylor due to her bulking up in the gym.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
USWNT
There has been an ongoing discussion in recent times over the wage gap present between professional male soccer players and professional female soccer players. Many celebrities have joined in on this conversation, especially since the USWNT (United States Women’s National Soccer Team) won the World Cup in the Summer of 2019. Both Brie and Taylor have shown their support for a pay increase for female players via their social media.

Samantha McMillen
Brie’s stylist, Samantha McMillen, has dressed her on many events. The outfit that is most interesting in this context is a giant butterfly she wore at the MTV awards. Who else do we know who loves butterflies? Our baby Taylor. The mural she commissioned is proof enough.

Ace Comicon
At Ace Comic Con 2019 on October 11th through the 13th, during a panel with Tessa Tomphson, Brie made some interesting comments on Captain Marvel, her heroes, and what fans wanted in future Marvel Films. The comment most important to us came when asked who her heroes were, and Brie responded with “All my heroes are pop stars.” Interesting right? Who is a pop star we all know and love? Taylor Swift.
In what is seemingly a follow up to this comment, Brie dressed as pop star Brittany Spears this most recent Halloween.
In addition to the panel, Brie participated in a series of meet and greets and autograph signings. Brie asked one fan what they would like to see her cover in the future. The fan responded “Anything from Lover” to which Brie responded “I’ll see what I can do”.
Among the stars attending Comic con, was Spiderman actor Tom Holland. In one photo set he was seen wearing a hat from Taylor’s Reputation stadium tour. I wonder who hooked him up with the hat?

Unicorn Store x Lover Aesthetics
During the weeks leading up to the drop of Lover, Taylor’s Instagram account transformed into a series of bright pastel colors, flowers, butterflies, and rainbows. A look through her account from February 10th onwards confirms the aesthetic change.
The theme of Brie’s movie Unicorn Store has a strikingly similar aesthetic. The movie is all about, you guessed it, unicorns. Watching the movie on Netflix is all the confirmation one needs to see that she was all about rainbows, unicorns, and bright colors in the film.
Fans of both Brie and Taylor were quick to note the similarities between their respective aesthetics, even going so far as to suggest that they coordinated their looks so they would be linked in the public eye. Either way, both aesthetics are bright, happy, and remind the viewer of what a Pride Parade looks like.
Over the summer it seemed as though the two of them were in a race to see who would come out of the closet first. Taylor would do something gay, then Brie, then Taylor again. Unfortunately, neither of them came out. But, one has to wonder if it was a coordinated effort to generate interest in both of their respective projects.

Someone Great
“Someone Great is a 2019 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The film stars Gina Rodriguez, Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise. It was released by Netflix on April 19, 2019” (Wikipedia).
Taylor has stated that this Netflix Original film was the inspiration behind her song Death by a Thousand Cuts. The true muse behind the song is up for debate among skeptics, but it does establish a viewing habit with Taylor. She watched a Netflix Original film, and it impacted her so much that she wrote a song about it. In browsing recommended movies, it is entirely plausible that she would have wandered upon Unicorn Store and decided to watch it.
The message of the film probably would have resonated with her. In the film, the main character Kit creates art that the general public doesn’t like and is forced to take a desk job to make ends meet. Here she felt like it wasn’t a good fit and she wasn’t truly happy, but was eventually able to find a way that she could express herself through her art.
This might have resonated with Taylor because she was ridiculed by the general population after a series of songs involving love and breakups, she was forced to stay with Big Machine Records in an attempt to get the rights to her master recordings back, and eventually found a place at the Universal Music Group. The stories are incredibly similar.
Source
Pokemon
Brie is a giant nerd. This is common knowledge. One of the things she geeks out about is Pokemon. In one instance she retweeted a thread on Twitter called “Brie Larson as Pokemon”. In the movie Detective Pikachu, Ryan Reynolds voices the leading character Pikachu. Who is good friends with Ryan? Taylor. So much so that in her Look What You Made Me Do music video she had Ryan and his wife’s names on a shirt of all her real friends on in one scene.
Source
Source
Gestures
It is well known that the more time you spend with someone, the more you pick up their gestures and phrases and incorporate them into your life. Fans have noticed several gestures that both Brie and Taylor do that are similar. Maybe it's because they spend so much time together?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karlie Kloss
Brie has hung out with Karlie at several different events over the years. She was in awe of the model and expressed so on her social media. Taylor and Karlie…. I’m not even gonna go there. Go look up a Kaylor masterpost. Chances are if you’re reading this post you already know what they are to each other. But, the model is another link between Brie and Taylor. Perhaps they all hung out and baked cookies together?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Christmas Scenes
Adorable family Christmas scenes appeared in both the Lover music video and in Captain Marvel. They are shockingly similar. Perhaps they were inspired by a shared Christmas together?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Green Flannel
Both Brie and Taylor were seen wearing the same green flannel in videos they posted to their respective social media accounts. Girlfriends sharing clothes again? It seems so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time Post
Taylor was featured on the cover of Time Magazine’s person of the year issue in 2017. Brie posted a picture of the cover on her Instagram. Obviously, she was voicing her support for the strong women on the cover, but Taylor being on the cover as well is a mighty fine coincidence.
Tumblr media
Haim Sisters
The Haim sisters are good friends of Taylors and could even have been considered a part of her “squad” back in the day. Taylor loves their music and vice versa.
In 2016 Brie appeared in a Funny or Die skit in which she auditioned to be the fourth member of the Haim sister’s band. Needless to say, her audition was not received well by the sisters, but it was a hilarious video nonetheless.

The Arm
In 2012, Brie appeared in a short film called The Arm. The director, Jessie Ennis, mentioned the co-director of the film, Sarah Ramos, singing  Long Live, by Taylor, to her after they found out the film was entered into the Sundance Film Festival. The  goes on to express their love for Taylor and how they wished she would notice them.

The Glass Scientists Art-Style Changes
Hey yeah sorry but I saw someone complain about how the webcomic’s art style is jarring in the later chapters and that the noses are bad because they’re big and I’m back in full salt mode WHO WANTS SOME TEA!?
@glass-scientists your art-style has only gotten more beautiful as the webcomic continues and you work extremely hard on the comic by yourself and I am amazed you kept working on this for more than four years now while in a career and I hope you’ll be able to do so for the foreseeable future.  When I comment on how your art changed please know that I’m not doing it to critique you.  Okay you don’t have to read more of this I just wanted to be the 156th person to let you know you’re doing great.
ONE - The noses have always been prominent on the characters’ art design and having a big noses does not automatically make it look ugly.  Admittedly there are artists out there who draw very ugly noses for very ugly reasons, but Sabrina Cotugno is not and never has been one of those types of artists.  Yes, Jekyll’s nose is bigger, but is not the end-all, be-all take from his design changes.
Here’s him from Ch.1 Pg. 15.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here’s him from Ch.7 Pg. 22
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And no, I do not know why the latter two picture are bigger.)
As you can see, the nose in the earlier chapters looks smaller, but Jekyll’s face is also a lot more...soft?  Like think of ceramic pieces.  You start out with soft clay and you mold it into the shape you want (but don’t forget to wedge don’t want it to explode in the oven) but then after the clay firms up a little you’re ready to carve it and give it a more pronounced form.  That’s what happened in the later chapters: Jekyll’s nose, the shape of his jawline, his sideburns, hair and even his eyebrows has become sharper and more distinct.  His nose isn’t just an attachment like a Mister Potato Head, its a part of him.  To give him a smaller nose would mean changing his whole character profile.
TWO - Like Clay, Art Changes.  Admittedly I was taken aback by the change in the comic’s art-style as well, but that will happen to literally any long-form manga or comic.  Unless you’ve been doing comics for literal decades your art is going to change, because you’re going to change, and what you want from your art and the characters you create are going to change.  Look at Bluechair by Shen on WEBTOON: while his artstyle has solidified these past few years his earlier comics are unrecognizable, because he’s been working on his Bluechairs comic for five years, often updating two or three times a week, and is currently on Episode 536 of Bluechairs, but technically he currently has 706 of them under the Bluechairs page.  His comics are like the Sunday Newspaper kind of comics, so I’m not asking you to read his stuff starting from the beginning (in fact please don’t try to read it all at once: his early stuff is pretty good but let me remind you he has SEVEN HUNDRED AND SIX COMICS OF STUFF) but maybe read a couple of them from the beginning and then read some of his latest ones.
So yeah, its not unexpected from comics to change in style, either slowly due to how the artists gains a more experienced hand or by an intentional shift in art direction.  Sabrina was in the latter camp, due to the fact that she felt the earlier character designs was too much like a Disney Princess Line-Up, which she mentioned in a page description that I cannot find but I know was real.
Honestly I really do like the more recent pages.  I disagree that they’re less vibrant, because I think removing the high glossy sheen made the characters even more distinct from each other.  Before the shift in artstyle I felt like everyone was getting the same brand of hair gel.  Hot take coming, but the character who most benefits from this shift is Rachel, who’s been looking gorgeous these last few chapters.
Tumblr media
THREE - Sabrina Cotugno has been working this story, these characters and the art of this webcomic mainly by herself, while still working a job as a cartoon director for multiple shows and is currently working on a project for Disney.  She does not have a lot of time on her hands to fix mistakes and asking her to change things or give her “Advice” on her art is...I won’t say unwanted because that’s up to her as to whether or not she’d use that language, but I will say she probably doesn’t need your advice on how to draw art when she has already worked in professional spaces as a storyboard artist AND as a director.
Plus I’m going to be upfront here, and this is going to sound harsh: Do not fucking nitpick and tear apart content made independently unless warranted by offensive language or imagery, because not only is it unhelpful it is just plain mean.  Yes, Sabrina has worked on shows before, but The Glass Scientists is not made by a group of people working together, with producers and press and editors to back them up.  This is entirely her work.  She is spending her own free time making this.  This webcomic is hours, days, weeks, years in the making, in the wake of hot days, sickness, travelling, other deadlines and dying plants.
And to turn around and say “Oh the way you do the art now isn’t as good?”  Fuck off with that.  I’m not Sabrina, so I get to be mean here - You are allowed to admit you dislike these changes, but sending the artist messages directly telling them of your dislikes is an absolute garbage thing to do.  Especially when you yourself are not an artist.
Like Sergeant Brokenshire has a beard in one panel but loses it in the next few pages.  Cue the Cinema Sins ding noise I guess.  Okay, that happens sometimes, she doesn’t have an editor to correct.  Am I going to directly send her messages letting her know she did her webcomic wrong?  Fuck no.  She probably has been sent hundreds of “helpful” messages about it already, and guess what?  She doesn’t have the time to correct every mistake because she has a job.
Of course if Sabrina or any independent artist does something horrifically offensive or even just something that makes you uncomfortable you are absolutely allowed to air your grievances.  But so far Sabrina has been good so I’ve got nothing to complain about, and the asks she gets that do have issues with the webcomic she answers with grace.
So basically this wandered completely off from the nose discussion and into the ethics of fandoms for independently made webcomics, but anyway long story short.
The Glass Scientists is not yours and its not mine.  It belongs to Sabrina Cotugno, and its hers to change how she sees fit.  Get over that and enjoy the webcomic as it is and you’ll have a much better experience.
Sorry to sound preachy there.  I’m not trying to act like the Fandom Police and I’m not trying to fight Sabrina’s battles for her.  I just see a lot of bad fucking behavior toward other independent artists and I don’t want to see it here.  I have been that anon who “critiques” or gives “helpful” advice to artists who had far more experience than me, so its not like I’m pretending to be above it all here.  I’ve buried many a blogs because of my shameful past.
Most of this Fandom has been wonderful.  Let’s keep it that way while it lasts.
Anyway that espresso really did a number on me.  I’m about to crash and I’m getting the awful sense of deja-vu here.  Sorry for being so salty on Fandom lately, I won’t do it again unless I see some real trouble.  This has accidentally become a Midnight Post, so go to bed!
...Oh wait one more thing: PLEASE DON’T REPOST FULL PAGES OF THE WEBCOMIC!!!  Access to the official page is not hard and despite a few hiccups (which is not Sabrina’s fault but the webpage itself) we have been able to see all of the webcomic.  There is no need to repost the whole page and on Sabrina’s FAQ she specifically asked people not do this.  If you want to read each new page and don’t want to refresh the website twenty time on Monday morning you can always follow her twitter or her blog “arythusa” where she posts a link to each new page after it uploads.  In fact starting tomorrow I’ll be sure to reblog these posts to make sure you have a link available to click.
Okay now good night.

Will be sharing new art posts from Twitter
Hey all,
So for now, since I don’t know if I want to keep posting content on Tumblr, here’s what I’m going to try.
I’ll be slowly sharing some of the art I’ve posted on Twitter during the past 2 months while my tumblr was terminated. To view the full art, please go through the link to twitter. You should be able to view the post, even if you do not have a twitter account.
I’ve lost complete trust in tumblr as a platform and don’t know if I can post content on here directly again, but I have no problem letting people know where they can access art I’ve posted elsewhere, and in general keeping you updated on what I’ve been drawing.
So what have I been drawing/will be drawing in the near future??
-Mainly Banana Fish
-Shoreiji, Asheiji, Singeiji, and every poly combination within LOL (I’m predictable af)
-(in general, want to draw Everyone x Eiji even if the above are my main ships, told u i’m predictable LOL)
-A lotta older!Sing in general, he’s hot af and also deserves love
-A lotta SUPER ripped older!Shorter LMAO
-Will probably be doing more AUs in the near future
-A smattering of YOI Future!Verse, mostly Patreon only (again, it’s been agonizing to draw for this fandom since termination)
As with all of my public art, higher resolution + less watermarked versions with my commentary are available on my Patreon.
RTs on twitter are much appreciated, but please do not repost (as in create a new post instead of reblogging) my art on Tumblr. If I decide to share art on Tumblr again, it will be on my own terms. Thank you for understanding.
All of this subject to change in the future, but let’s try this for now. ^ ^;

The Moon and Planets
Both the moon and Jupiter will be dominating our night skies this week, worldwide. Here are the Skylights!
The moon will tempt you to view it throughout this week. Sunday evening will feature the nearly half-illuminated moon tucked a palm’s width below the stars that form the eastern, back half of Leo (the Lion). Hours later, at 2 am Eastern Time on Monday morning, the moon will officially reach its First Quarter phase. At that time, it will be positioned 90 degrees away from the sun.
The term expresses that the moon has completed the first quarter of its orbit around Earth since the previous New Moon. The relative positions of the Earth, sun, and moon cause us to see the moon half-illuminated - on its eastern side. At first quarter, the moon always rises around noon and sets near midnight, so it is also visible in the afternoon daytime sky, too. The evenings around first quarter are the best times to see the lunar terrain while it is dramatically lit by low-angled sunlight.
At this first quarter, a feature called the Lunar X will be visible in strong binoculars and small telescopes. For a few hours, the illuminated rims of the craters Parbach, la Caille, and Blanchinus will form a small, but very obvious X-shape located at moon coordinates 2° East and 24° South. That point is on the terminator (the pole-to-pole line that divides the lit and dark hemispheres) and about one third of the way up from the southern pole of the moon. The “X” should start to develop around midnight on Sunday.
From Monday through Thursday, the moon will pass head-to-foot through the large constellation of Virgo (the Maiden). Every night, our natural satellite will fill up with light and set later as it swings wider from the sun. On Thursday and Friday, the nearly full moon will cross Libra (the Scales).
On the weekend, the moon will hop past Jupiter, landing on Jupiter’s upper right on Saturday and then dropping to Jupiter’s lower left on Sunday. On both nights, notice the relative positions of the two objects while they are over the eastern horizon, and compare that to the way they look hours later. Earth’s rotation causes constellations and planets to flip by 180 degrees as they cross the sky from east to west. The June full moon will occur in the wee hours of next Monday, so the moon will look full on Sunday evening, too.
This is a big week for Jupiter – literally! On Monday, June 10, Earth’s faster orbit will pass Jupiter on the inside track, causing Jupiter to be positioned exactly opposite the sun in our sky, worldwide. Planets at opposition always rise at sunset, and remain visible all night long. On Monday, Jupiter will also be closer to Earth than on any other date this year – only 640.9 million km, or 4.284 Astronomical Units from us. (1 A.U. is the average sun-Earth separation.) The planet’s light will be taking 36 light-minutes to reach us – meaning that we are seeing Jupiter more than half an hour in the past!
Jupiter will also shine at its brightest (visual magnitude -2.6) for 2019, and its apparent disk diameter will max-out at 46 arc-seconds. (That’s 2.5% of the full moon’s diameter.) Don’t worry if your skies are cloudy on June 10. Jupiter will be about as good for a week surrounding that date, and then it will slowly start to shrink in size and brightness. We’ll be enjoying Jupiter through our telescopes all summer long!
Tumblr media
(Above: Starting late on Tuesday evening, observers in the Americas can see the black shadows of two of Jupiter’s moons on Jupiter at the same time! At 11:29 pm EDT, Ganymede’s shadow will join Io’s shadow already in transit. The two shadows will cross Jupiter for 64 minutes until Io’s shadow moves off the planet at 12:33 am. This image shows Jupiter at midnight EDT.)
Around opposition, Jupiter’ moons are more visible, too. From time to time, the small, round black shadows cast by Jupiter’s four Galilean moons become visible in amateur telescopes as they cross (or transit) Jupiter’s disk. Starting late on Tuesday evening, observers in the Americas can see two of those shadows on Jupiter at the same time! At 11:29 pm EDT, Ganymede’s shadow will join Io’s shadow already in transit. The two shadows will cross Jupiter for 64 minutes until Io’s shadow moves off the planet at 12:33 am. Ganymede’s shadow will continue to transit the northern polar region of Jupiter until 1:50 am EDT.
Due to Jupiter’s rapid 10-hour rotation period, the Great Red Spot (or GRS) is only observable from Earth every 2nd or 3rd night, and only during a predictable three-hour window. The GRS will be easiest to see using a medium-sized, or larger, aperture telescope on an evening of good seeing (steady air). If you’d like to see the Great Red Spot in your telescope, it will be crossing the planet after midnight tonight (Sunday). More GRS viewing opportunities occur in the hours surrounding 9:45 pm EDT on Monday evening, 11:15 pm EDT on Wednesday, and 1 am EDT on Saturday.
Tumblr media
(Above: Jupiter will reach peak visibility for 2019 on June 10, when it reaches opposition. Jupiter and dimmer Saturn (at lower left) will spend the next several months in the southern evening sky, on opposite sides of the Milky Way, as shown here for midnight this week.)
Yellowish Saturn will be rising in the east-southeast a little before 11 pm local time this week. Its position in the sky is just to the left (east) of the stars that form the teapot-shaped constellation of Sagittarius (the Archer). Saturn is quite a bit dimmer than Jupiter. To find it, look about 2.5 fist diameters to the lower left (east) of Jupiter. Dust off your telescope - because even a small one will show its rings and several of its brighter moons!
Tumblr media
(Above: The ice giant planets Uranus and Neptune are both in the eastern pre-dawn sky among the stars of Aries and Aquarius, respectively, as shown here at 4:30 am local time.)
Distant and dim, blue Neptune is in the southeastern pre-dawn sky, among the stars of Aquarius (the Water-Bearer). The planet will rise before 2 am local time. After mid-June, Neptune will become part of the evening sky. Brighter, blue-green Uranus is rising at about 3 am local time, and is sitting among the stars of Aries (the Ram).
Last to rise is our bright, next-door neighbour Venus. She is sitting low in the east-northeastern pre-dawn sky this week, creeping ever-closer to the rising sun. Venus will shine with a steady, unmoving light - unlike airplanes.
Tumblr media
(Above: Mercury and Mars are situated low in the western sky after sunset this week, as shown here for 10 pm local time on Friday. Mercury will be drawing closer to Mars all week.)
Mars and Mercury are hanging out just above the northwestern horizon after sunset this week. Mercury will become easier to spot every night because it is climbing away from the sun and brightening. The best time to look for it falls between 9:45 and 10:15 pm local time. Mercury is heading directly towards dimmer Mars. Tonight, Mars will be about a palm’s width to the upper left of Mercury. By Sunday, that will reduce to a finger’s width! And next week, those two planets will “kiss”!
The Big Dipper as a Sky Tool
If you missed last week’s information about measuring the sky using the Big Dipper asterism, I posted it here.
Satellites
There are no visible Iridium Flares predicted for the GTA this week. The ISS (International Space Station) will not be visible over the GTA this week.
Keep looking up, and enjoy the sky when you do. I love questions and requests - so, send me some!

Note
Thank you so much for looking up the sources! Many great artists on Pixiv get their art reposted/stolen constantly and the fact that you actually take your time to look them up truly is admirable.
Thank you for letting me know you appreciate it! I like a little puzzle every now and again and getting to slam down the source is a nice buzz.
Unfortunately, Tumblr somewhat encourages reposting (to clarify, reblogging - pressing that green arrow button - good, reposting is coping and pasting to make a new post - bad) as only new posts show up in tag searches. This means if your aim is to become the “go-to blog for a particular type of fandom content” and get loads of followers quickly (in graph theory speak, become a ‘hub’), scraping art websites and making tonnes of posts sounds like a “great” idea, particularly without posting comments as an isolated image fits most blogs in terms of aesthetics. I get why new peeps innocently do it and I ain’t blanket mad at people!
But credit-less reposting sucks. Ever been in a group of people and you’re feeling particularly quiet? Finally, there’s a pause and you say a damn good joke. Barely anyone hears, but then the prat next to you repeats it and gets a huge laugh. Saying “hey, that was my joke” sounds petty and bitter but having your opportunity to make friends taken away hurts. When someone turns round and says “that was [your] joke! Good one!” you feel supported. Infinitely better would be if the prat was not a prat and gave you the platform to speak for yourself if you wanted!
For those wanting to be a fandom hub, let the content creators speak for themselves! Find posts made by the artists/writers/video editors, and then share their posts, including their commentary. You will get a million times more respect in the community from content creators for doing that. This drives your followers to the content creators where they might be running commissions or a patreon or a ko-fi, and them getting more followers means they get a buzz and produce more content for you to reblog to your hub. Nice!
What if they’re not on tumblr? For fanfics you can share the summary and link, for videos you can embed rather than reuploading (make sure their name is there!). Pics are harder. Not everyone has the time to manage a million websites, especially if the website is in another language, and that’s where we get this scraping from. If you want to share someone’s work from another platform please ask to repost it first. Sometimes artists put in their profile that it’s okay to share with correct credit. If nothing is written there, assume you’ll need permission. Sourcing without permission, even correctly, particularly when the artist has in their profile “don’t repost” is still naughty. Sometimes you might even need to use google translate to ask. Hard work? Yeah, but you’re trying to curate a fandom hub, a little effort goes a long way!
If you still really want to share it but they said no to reposting, just share the link to the work without the image so people have to click through - that way the artist gets the traffic. If that upsets you, double-check your motivation - is it to share a picture you absolutely adore, or is it to maximise your reblogs and follows?
I don’t want to get overly sanctimonious about it particularly as it’s easy enough to find posts I’ve reblogged that haven’t stuck by this, and other content creators might have other preferences (check these notes I guess) but my sourcing very best practice would be to include:- The name of the piece and a link to the original piece itself, also putting that as the post’s source (not your blog, your blog is not the source, just the OP).- The (user)name of the artist including a link to their profile.- A link to the project it’s part of if relevant (like the comic or themed collection).- Give the artist the tumblr post link so they can see if it’s doing well, it might encourage them to make a tumblr and make your life easier. If you want to do extra:- Add a link to the creator’s commissions page or ko-fi etc- Add a link to a few other pieces they’ve done you like so people have to click through (e.g. if it’s to a tweet, your followers with twitter might click through your post and retweet the other work as well!)- Let the creator know if they got nice comments (same when sharing fanfics/vids) that they may not have seen. Everyone loves nice comments and tags!I’m sure other people have other ideas :).
If you want to help encourage sourcing: - Reblog posts that you can trace back to the creator themselves.- If it didn’t start with the creator, only reblog when it’s sourced by the original uploader, preferably if it says “posted with creator’s permission”.- Add sources to unsourced posts you like that are gaining traction - it doesn’t take long to hunt down. Or check the notes to see if someone’s already done that and reblog that post. You don’t want to do that too often as it might encourage the reposter but at the same time I’d want someone to help me out if my work was reposted.
Like people who slowly fade away from conversations when they’re spoken over, people stop creating work when their work is reposted, particularly unsourced. And that sucks for everyone, including your hub blog when it runs out of content. So help people out by sourcing and don’t be a prat!

Hymn of the Hallux Announcement Post
Tumblr media
**Since this is only on the Tumblr page, I highly suggest checking out my crosspost with this link: https://lucascomposerblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/02/hymn-of-the-hallux-announcement-post/ for better formatting. In the future I’m hoping to have that squared away**
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Hymn of the Hallux Gameplay + Some More Information post. For any asking, this is indeed the “Chrono Type Game” or the “Game that plays like Chrono Trigger” – But there’s a few twists to follow. I wanted to make a post outlining everything in this game’s official announcement, from every aspect of gameplay, to when you all can expect more info. Everything is WIP and still subject to change. Let’s get this started:
Outside of Combat Gameplay Gameplay
You know it’s an RPG that plays like Chrono Trigger – On-Map battles in the gameplay, three party members, and so forth. How does outside the battles work, though? I present an answer,
The characters are censored through the magical blob of photoshop.
Tumblr media
How do you get past this ledge?
I can answer that easily.
Tumblr media
Slowly but surely, the characters move past through a hookshot!
“Woah, now how did you do that?!”
When you’re on-map, the game plays like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, but each party member has control over a different on-map ability. The one up there was the hookshot; used to get across ledges and to get new items. While there is a lot of inspiration from A Link to the Past, there are a few abilities that don’t come from The Legend of Zelda. Designing dungeons based around these mechanics have made this awesome – I’m able to appeal to people who want to explore everything, while also appealing to people who just want to get a dungeon over with.
Battle System & Other Gameplay Updates
The Battle System plays like Chrono Trigger, but here’s a few changes/additions:
–Dual Techs and Triple Techs are based on your TP – Based on how many turns you’ve done, you’re able to use them, so they’re separate from MP. –Six spell type system – Bar bosses, the spell system is pretty basic. You’ll be able to recognize an enemy by color (there will be a lot of recolors of similar enemies at stronger) to identify what type they are. If you’re using the same color magic that an enemy already uses, it won’t work. If you’re using the one that opposes their type, it’ll be super effective (whether it’s x2 remains to be seen). If you’re using one of the four that don’t affect it at all, nothing will happen. –Interesting Weapon Variety (to be explained more later) –Three spells for each characters. No more, no less, but all spells definitely have ability. –No revives. (I’m balancing heavily around this; the party is becoming really strong to compensate) -Able to switch characters between battles. –Non-Linear Dungeons
Everything is subject to change, but this is what I’m working on right now.
Art Preview
Here, have the first screenshot that doesn’t use RPG Maker assets:
Tumblr media
The first demo isn’t focused on the most… aesthetically appeasing stuff. Censor blob comes back to censor party members!
I plan on doing a majority of the art for myself, for self-improvement, but I have a lot of friends who are professional at the craft whom I plan on getting feedback from. If all plans go well, I do plan on funding a few other artist friends to come join me for relatively small work on it. The main thing I’ve learned from analyzing RPG’s over the past few years: There’s a lot of places that they do budget cuts to make a game of that scope possible. I’ve bunked myself into three categories for art: “Need” “Want” “Would like to have”
Programming & Engine
I mentioned it before already in here, but for the first demo, I’ll be using RPG Maker VX Ace. After this, thanks to the assistance of Moghunter1’s Schala Battle System, I will probably be transferring over to RPG Maker MV. If I don’t transfer over to RPG Maker MV, I’ll be working on my own system (which will make the game take more time, but I have ideas in the works in-case.)
For porting, I’m pretty positive we’ll be able to get it on Mac along with PC. Anything else is too early to call, but I want to place it on as many systems as reasonably possible.
Story Preview
This is a preview set two years after the events of Solace. Here’s a short preview,
‘Some sounds were never meant to be heard’
“Craftsion, a fledgling colony in the world of Alkazure, is being overrun by creatures that are unknown to all. Abraham, the colony Leader, has only one clue: Every century a song is sung, a story is told. With time of the essence, can Abraham and his allies be able to solve these mysteries? Or will everything fall to ashes?”
I do have a few friends who are fantastic at writing helping me with polish. Since I do plan on making this an infinite universe under the name “Alkazure” (Meaning sequels, prequels, side stories, and so forth are all up in the air) I want to make sure the universe is as consistent and as strong as I can make it, and all of the writing reflects that as much as possible.
I know there’s one more preview…
Music Preview
As a Musician, there’s no way I could forget a music preview?
So remember Solace? I reflected about the project that wrapped up only seven months ago. The album was a timed 5 month finish from starting with sketches on my computer, to finalizing the album art with the last minute help of Kyle Labriola. I came out of my shell and collaborated five other musicians to create tracks that were truly able to be sprung to life with their help. My thought isn’t “How do I go bigger from here” but “What would be the next big improvement?”
While I am the sole composer, I’m planning on upping the ante in a way that won’t be predicted. While many won’t see it coming, it’s the most logical step for me to push my goals forward. If all goes well, the soundtrack might be my favorite thing to come from this game. For now, have a super early town draft:

Infusion & Who Else is Working on Hymn of the Hallux
Most people don’t know about this, but I’ve been working on Shoot-Em-Up called Infusion for a while with this cool person, one of my favorite people & collaborators, another cool person and a fourth cool person. Yes, each of those links are separate. Since Hymn of the Hallux is going to take up a lot of my time, what does this mean for Infusion and the rest of the team?
Nothing.
I’m working on recruiting a few more people for Infusion, and then it will be a project that, at this moment in time, will be done when it’s done: we’re working on it every Thursday for now. There’s going to be no overlap bar a few people potentially doing small tasks and us all working to ensure the success of Hymn. Beyond that, even with contracting people and various favors whenever (thanks to possible funding; more information on that later), Hymn will be mostly me. I do want to work with people to make this possible, but since this is the very first full fledged game in the “Alkazure” series, I want to get this out as timely as possible.
Demo? What was with the twitter polls? Questions?
I’m happy to announce that I’ll be having the first Demo available soon. My goal is before the end of January, but I’ve recently caught a cold, so it may take a bit longer. This demo is more of a “Gameplay Sample Demo”
While the Twitter polls were to gauge interest, I appreciate getting feedback. Even though Chrono Trigger is a very popular game, the ‘community’ for it is rather split up. Since programming is mostly squared away and I’ll be re-using a lot of art assets, the biggest time sink that this game is going to face is balancing combat & balancing dungeon design. Feedback is crucial to the success of Hymn of the Hallux and I want you all to be a part of that
I don’t know when the next update will be, but all planned future updates will be shorter than this. All blog posts will be on My Blog – Comment to me on any of these outlets I link and I’ll respond as soon as I can; preferably the Blog. I will be posting links to these updates on my Twitter and Facebook Fanpage and I’ll be reposting these blogs on Tumblr. I have plans to use my YouTube channel as well, so for those who like YouTube, head on over to My Channel Here.
If you like Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, or Secret of Mana, you’ll probably like this game. If you don’t like those games, you probably won’t like this but give it a shot and some feedback – all is welcome. If you’ve never played any of those, well, you’re in for quite a ride.
Thank you to all of my friends, family, and followers for making this possible, whether big or small. I have big plans for future. May 2017 be a good year Hymn of the Hallux and for all of us!

Happy Vernal Equinox!
Two few minutes before 6 pm Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday, our northern Spring, also known as the Vernal Equinox, officially begins! Here’s why…
Tumblr media
(Above: At the moment of the Vernal Equinox on Wednesday, March 20, the sun’s path along the Ecliptic (yellow plane) will carry it across the Celestial Equator (blue plane), leaving the sun to spend the next 6 months in the northern half of the sky and delivering increased daylight hours and radiant heat on the Earth’s northern hemisphere.)
The Celestial Equator is an imaginary circle around the sky that sits directly above the Earth’s equator. It divides the sky into two bowls - the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Meanwhile, as Earth orbits around the sun, the sun appears to travel eastward through the distant stars, tracing out another circle called the ecliptic. Due to the 23.5° tilt of the Earth’s axis of rotation, the Celestial Equator and the Ecliptic are tipped with respect to each other. Think of them as two hula hoops with the same centre, Earth - but one is tilted so that they intersect at only two spots. (The motion of the sun that I’ve referring to above is the one that causes new stars to appear each season, and is NOT the one that carries the sun across the sky every day. The first case is due to the Earth’s year-long orbit and the second motion is due to the Earth’s daily rotation.)
The sun’s eastward motion along the ecliptic circle covers about one degree per day. At the precise moment of the Vernal Equinox, the sun is “stepping over” the equator (where the hula hoops cross) and its apparent motion is carrying it into the northern half of the sky. Six months from now, on the Autumnal Equinox, it will again cross the equator heading into the southern half of the sky.
This produces two interesting effects. Firstly, for the next six months, the sun will spend the majority of each day in our northern hemisphere sky, overhead of the lucky folks in North America, Europe, and Asia! More daily sun time means warmer air and longer daylight hours! At the same time, folks in the Southern hemisphere have to accept shorter, colder days and longer nights (Warmly dressed astronomers don’t mind long winter nights!). Secondly, on the day of the equinoxes, we experience about 12 hours each of daytime and night-time (it varies by latitude). This is where the word equinox (Latin for equal night) comes from.
The times around the equinoxes also offer better chances to see the aurorae at high northern and southern latitudes. Just as two bar magnets lined up with their poles in the same direction repel one another strongly, the Earth’s magnetic field repels the sun’s field. At the equinoxes, the Earth’s axis is tilted neither towards nor away from the sun, so the two “magnets” aren’t as parallel, reducing Earth’s ability to deflect the sun’s field and the charged particles that trigger aurorae in our upper atmosphere.
The Moon and Planets
For most of this week, the moon will remain in view in the evening sky. On Sunday night, it will be a bright gibbous (more than half-illuminated) orb between Cancer (the Crab) and Leo (the Lion). On Monday night, the moon will land less than two finger widths to the left of Leo’s brightest star, Regulus.
Tumblr media
(Above: On Monday evening the orbital motion of the moon will place it 2 degrees to the upper left of Leo’s brightest star, Regulus, as shown here for 9 pm EDT.)
On Wednesday night the moon will reach its full phase. Although technically it occurs a few hours past the equinox, this is the final full moon of winter. The March full moon, known as the Worm Moon, Crow Moon, Sap Moon or Lenten Moon, always shines in or near the stars of Leo or Virgo (the Maiden). Full moons always rise in the east as the sun sets, and set in the west at sunrise. When fully illuminated, the moon’s geology is enhanced, especially the contrast between the ancient cratered highlands and the younger, darker, smoother maria. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landings by humans.
After Wednesday, the moon will begin to rise in late evening and wane in phase. From Thursday to Sunday, it will traverse the stars of Virgo and then Libra (the Scales).
Mars will continue to be an easy planet to see every evening this week, but only for a couple of hours after dusk. By midnight, Mars will set in the west. Once the sky has darkened, look for Mars’ medium-bright, reddish pinpoint of light less than halfway up the western sky. Mars has been slowly shrinking in size and brightness as we increase our distance from it little-by-little. Distant Uranus is situated two fist diameters below Mars – but it’s too low for observing nowadays.
Tumblr media
(Above: This week, Mars will continue to gleam as an ever-diminishing, reddish pinpoint located about halfway up the western sky after dusk, as shown here at 9 pm local time.)
The eastern pre-dawn sky continues to host a spectacular parade of three bright planets. Bright Jupiter will rise first, at about 2:30 am local time. By 7 am, it should still be visible in the southern sky. Yellowish Saturn, will rise at about 4:30 am local time and will become lost in the southeastern twilight before 7 am.
Our sister planet Venus, now markedly closer to the sun, is starting to become engulfed in the dawn twilight. Look for Venus’ as a bright beacon sitting quite low in the east-southeastern dawn sky from 6 am local time until sunrise. In a telescope, Venus will exhibit a gibbous (more than half-illuminated) phase. If you have trouble seeing Saturn, search about midway between Jupiter and Venus.
Tumblr media
(Above: The eastern pre-dawn sky continues to deliver a parade of bright planets, starting with Jupiter, then Saturn, and then Venus, as shown here at 6:30 am local time. Venus’ orbit, shown in red, is swinging the bright planet lower, towards the sun.)
The Brightest Stars
During full moon periods, only the brightest stars can still be spotted with unaided eyes. At this time of year, most of those stars are the ones that form the Winter Hexagon asterism. Start by finding the extremely bright star Sirius sitting low in the southern evening sky at 9 pm local time. From there, look for bluish Rigel sitting 2.5 fist diameters to Sirius’ upper right, then look well above Rigel for warm-tinted Aldebaran, and continue to Aldebaran’s upper left to reach yellowish Capella at the top of the asterism. Now descend on the hexagon’s left side. The bright matched pair of stars Castor and Pollux is three fist diameters to the lower left of Capella. Finally, bright white Procyon is well below those twins – roughly between them and Sirius.
The only other bright star is Regulus in Leo. That white star sits about 3.7 fit diameters to the left (east ) of Procyon.
Tumblr media
(Above: the full moonlight generally overwhelms all but the brightest stars. The Winter Hexagon composed of the bright stars Sirius, Rigel, Aldebaran, Capella, Castor, Pollus, and Procyon will be visible on mid-March evenings, including Wednesday’s Full Sap Moon. The point marked ASP is the point of the sky opposite the sun. The moon is always fully illuminated when it’s near that location. The sky is shown here for 10 pm local time, )
Evening Zodiacal Light
For about half an hour after dusk between today and the new moon on April 5, look west-southwest for a broad wedge of faint light rising from the horizon and centered on the ecliptic. This is the zodiacal light - reflected sunlight from interplanetary particles of matter concentrated in the plane of the solar system. The glow will be centred on the horizon directly below Mars. Try to observe from a location without light pollution, and don't confuse the zodiacal light with the brighter Milky Way to the northwest. I posted an image of it here.
Pointing at Polaris
If you missed last week’s information about Polaris, the North Star, I posted it with sky charts here.
Keep looking up, and enjoy the sky when you do. I love questions and requests - so, send me some!
