very controversial trans take; detransitioners are not our enemy. they're people who took the time to question their gender, to explore their identity inside and out, and came to the conclusion that their identity best aligns with what they were assigned at birth. i wish everybody could take the time to sit and think deeply about the identities they hold, particularly things like gender that are inherent, but also deeply socialized. the detransitioners who are spouting anti-trans rhetoric have been taught by the system we live in that even questioning your gender is wrong, so for many of them, that rhetoric is a survival tool for assimilating back into cis society. doesn't make it okay to hold anti-trans views, for certain, but it does expose the fact that the enforcement of a restrictive gender binary hurts everyone, even cis people.

Glancing up for a fleeting moment, you were surprised to see the two green themed heros leaning on the counter, Ivy with her signature smirk, and Riddler smiling like the Cheshire cat. With a sigh, you lowered the pitcher and raised an eyebrow.

“What do you think about Pengy? Think he’s cute?” Isley purred, fully leaning against the counter and walking her fingers up your chest to boop your nose. For a lesbian, she tended to flirt with men plenty, it just seemed to be in her nature, you suppose (pun not intended).

Once everyone had gotten their drinks, some with alcoholic hot cocoa, others with your Apple Cider Moonshine, and Freeze with his eggnog, the festivities had officially started. Edward had a Christmas based trivia game, Harley and Ivy with karaoke, along with several various board games and movies in the background. It was going.. amazing, surprisingly. Jervis and Jonathan hadn't fought once, Harley didn't do a single prank, and Bane didn't break anything by accident.

The night was going great, and now it was time for presents.

“Mine first!” Harley chirped, jumping up before anyone else could. “Or- Emmett's first, technically, but it's from me!” She downright leaped over Jon and Freeze to reach the tree, grabbing a small black box with a red ribbon keeping it closed. Rushing back to the group, she dropped it on your lap with a beaming smile.

“I’m.. Very worried about this.” you murmured, taking a nervous glance at Oswald who was beside you. After everyone else took their seats before him, he was forced to sit next to you, which you far from minded. “This.. This better not be a glitter bomb Harls, because if it is-”

“Just open it!”

“Okay-! Okay.” you sighed, Harley backing away which made your eyebrows raise. “Ozzie, if I go down, will you go down with me?” your words were joking, but nonetheless the less Oswald took them to heart.

“Of course, my dear owl, if you are coated in glitter, I will be too.” He grinned, scooting closer so the box was between you both. One more glance at Harley, and you tugged off the ribbon.

There was a flash of white, before something leaped from the box like a jack-in-the-box, the ‘jack’ now a couple inches above your head, between you and Oswald. you blinked, a bit bewildered, turning to glare at the clown. “Really?” It wasn't angry, more so just confused and a bit annoyed. “Better than last year's glitter bomb…”

“Look up.” Harley giggled, pointing to the jack. Oswald and you did it at the same time, and your eyes widened at the round, tear shaped leaves, and white berries.

You both looked at eachother, eyes wide and face steadying turning more red.

“Well?” Ed called from the beanbag he was sharing with Harley, grinning, “what are you waiting for?”

“Oh- I- Oswald, you don't-”

Silence, both of you staring as realization seemed to kick in. You both wanted to kiss each other, but simply just.. thought the other one didn't. That by itself was a revelation, but right now you had seven of your shared friends watching with bated breaths. you knew better than to keep them waiting, too.

In one swift movement, you ducked down and pressed your lips to Oswald’s. He squawked in surprise, but just as your companions started to cheer, he was kissing back with his hands cupping your hips. im taking jon matteson's "richie should have blue hair in a movie version of NPMD" and fucking sprinting with it. he dyes his hair at least once a year and it's a wildly different color every time

ruth is the kind of gal to love games with lots of violence because it makes her feel like a badass vigilante (she can barely do a push-up in real life) (just like me)

like the ethnicity post i really only have ideas about certain characters and the rest are up to whatever people think they are ^_^ i mean these are too, speculate whatever you want, but heres my interpretation of a few characters

joner: aroace. romance-neutral. this is all self projection on my part, i think joner as a character just prefers friendships to relationships and romance would make him uncomfortable but hes very supportive of others. he/him (impartial to she/her though)

Why does Clarke bind in your pillow princess au? How nervous was Clarke telling Lexa about it?

So Clarke was always your very typical blonde big boob popular girl, cheerleader, prom queen, dating the quarterback, sorority girl. The thing is, Clarke hated all of that with a passion, but it was what was expected of her, so she kind of went with it. When she found out in college she was bi she thought that maybe the weird feelings she had about her body and sexuality were due to that and now that she found herself she could express herself the way she wanted which mostly meant to her that she didnt want to present as girly as she had so far.

She still feels weird in certain clothes, like her body isn't right, so she tries to start working out but that isn't working either in stopping what she's feeling but at some point she assumes its just her being self conscious about herself. When she starts dating Lexa its when Clarke is really given a safe space to explore who she is. She gets to go for a more masc presentation of herself and while some days she loves her boobs, other days all she wants to do is rip them off and tries her best to make them look smaller. She starts with a tighter sports bra, which just hurts her back and makes her boobs ache before she considers binding.

Now, Clarke has always felt like a girl. She doesn't think she isnt a girl, she just isnt a girl-girl you know. She is but she isn't. And Lexa is a lesbian. A lesbian who adores boobs. And the idea of sitting down with Lexa and telling her Clarke wants to bind at least 50% of the time and that she might not be 100% a woman is SCARY. Clarke loves Lexa and she is so scared about it, not even just nervous, downright terrified. And i mean, Clarke has spent most of her life pretending the assumptions about hwr and her body are right, she could probably do the same with Lexa but she wants to marry this woman so she needs to come clean.

Clarke built this up in her head to be a complete disaster, for Lexa to breakup with her or even avcuse her of lying to her and instead all Lexa does is smile and kiss her because "love, if someone understands about weird feelings about gender its me" and its suddenly a massive weight off Clarke's shoulders.

And like, when Lexa helps Clarke bind for the first time? Lexa spends more time than Clarke online, trying to find a good binder that she trusts completely for Clarke to get and when it finally arrives Clarke runs to try it on., Lexa right behind her, making sure Clarke feels good in it and reminding her she cant wear it for too long and adjusting and readjusting it. Post Sex Tape Drea

•First of she gets Sophia Turner whom she thought released the sex tape in mental hospital and claims shes did cocaine which is extreme reaction but were in genre of revenge fantasy so its extreme but a response to a action that hurt her it's not unprompted

▪︎Drea thinks that it was Clarissa whomst outed Eleanor and puts her in the mentall health hospital area

•She gets the seinor class high on mushrooms without there consent

•She releases all of texts of Max flirting and cheating exbortant amount of girls in school this us technically violating him but it also hurts the girls who were also involved with max

• I will give Eleanor that the emotional and mental aftermath on her psyche is fucked up because it

Eleanor doesn't receive any sexism except from like max and she has no economic problems

•Drea does make her look femme but this isnt because she disrespects Eleanor masculine presenting self its because she already used to having to shed herself like a chameleon but its still self centered in the way she presents it

She forces Drea a Latina woman to play into the drug part of her revenge plan and she holds no thought of this could hurt her more as Latina women who could actually be in trouble for this and maybe go to jail

Conclusion or why this isn't quite as fabulous a story as its Pre Cursors

We have Eleanor who has nothing to lose who decides to do revenge against Drea who not only has everything to loose and isn't even plotting lady macbeth style pre the sex tape and is just not aware shes selfcentered who shows genuine empathy and devotion to Eleanor one she hears about this even tho shes dissociated her memory of it

And eleanor inability to deal with her valid anger towards drea because of Drea rumor of predatory behavior that is turned into i know i have more privilege and can't commicate but I'm gonna ruin your life not giving you rhe full honest truth and leaving you vulnerable to way harsh consequences to behavior I could get way with without sacrificing my life

This does not share that you any balance that the battle of power in mean girls and jawbreaker have

On the one hand it makes sense that Eleanor would just be like I'm mad that this girl did this to me but also like she literally was uspet for eleanor and showed empathy and especially because that was after the sex tape release she didn't have anything to loose by denying it its like what i would called the mary Lennox white girl complex (she thinks she a orphan girl in Victorian gothic story)

Dreas not a angel to do all of that but the anger and pressure and stress she feels because her initial oppressed position is what really makes her loose it shes feeling valid emotion and is honest just like teenager and she makes sure to this in way that she thinks in long term the white people will get over right

So Drea perspective is the more modern heathers and jawbreaker poc girl hyperfemmine revenge fantasy

then the interjection of Eleanor almost feels like out of place, Drea no regina george and she even as Eleanor states is better person and it takes this story which already has to characters who have such fundamental difference in privilege and if anything I would agrue its violation of Drea to make her go with the plan against her will because she is has more to loose and as woc it made so upset and felt like distrusting

So in the context of my gay revenge darkness duo rules because drea doesn't have the same ability to fight back at her because long term her goal is to have good standing in the world to survive Eleanors revenge plan fallls short against dreas cher cluesss esc actions that she would probably be willing to rectify(eleanor doesn't know this initially but the writers do hence my problem)

I also think the more intersting relationship between evil and regret crazieness is between drea and tara who have a more equal and related footing to what they could loose

One thing that important here is that Drea feels the white girls have it easeir they will recover faster and she has some anger from the privilege they already receive

I feel here is conflict in text and argument between the legitimate anger of Drea as latina lowerclass girl and the text refusal to allow her to be angry and get something out of it she doesn't get to win

I'm deeply umcomfortable with the lack room for the dreas unlikable character traits and the way she so deeply punished in way that regina George and courtney from jawbreaker are not which is worse because her initial highschool school motivations of setting herself for economic and career success aren't evil plan esc and her calling eleanor predatory, which in comparison to literally dealing with deadbody courtney, and aggressively on purpose keeping the status quo regina geroge (i know shes lesbian coded but she consistantly einforces her power) is just simply racism

Shes not nice and shes bitchy but again she has no agenda other than her own success she selfcentered as well but at this point her goal is get out of her school and move on she wants to have sucessful and happy life

Now ultimately Eleanor has the resources to get help and deal with her problems easily accessible she doesn't need to pick up her mom at her work and she doesn't depend college to be the entrance to really live life it's not the same need and as much traumatizes eleanor this will noy follow her into adulthood as strongly as a DRUG CHARE would follow Drea. Drea never gets to fight back or get a say in this world that refuses to let her be woman because shes seen as less human and fiesity and spicy in a almost animal like way(i dont go here so Latina who face this stereotype in that way and not in black way feel free to correct me)

Passing is great example of text in which to queer (subtextual) black women balance anger confusion and affection towards one another in what is deeply terrifying world for them in which in ends in devastation but both women have similar choice and whats more devasting is way they forced to shape themselves

What you notice about the texts I've mentioned (excluding clueless) is that theses dynamics are characters of the same race

YES YOUR GENDERBEND TAGS!! One of my pet peeves is when genderbend AUs completely swap personalities and interests, and I'm like, nah man! They'd still be the same at their core, but the most interesting part of the AU at all is how despite all that, the way they'd exist in society would shape them differently. Like even if KH is still a bit odd and cold, she's also cool and artsy, and ultimately an androgynous woman is more palpable to people-- whereas DK being more Masc ™️ with her athleticism and country-ness would put her more in the face of homophobia (but also likely less so with her female peers? So interesting! Would she and FH and the other athletic glee girls get along better??)

Okay so I feel like girl!Dave (Dawn/Dove/Danielle) has a similar backstory and starting point to my ftm!Dave post. She grew up a tomboy but faced more and more social pressure to be genderconforming, and as a result doubles down on performing femininity in exchange for acceptance and in order to hide/deny her queerness.

One phenomenon I've noticed with both afab trans/nonbinary people and queer women is this "girly" phase that sometimes happens. It happened to me as a trans man from the onset of puberty until halfway through college where I really REALLY wanted to fit in (especially as an autistic person) with other kids and with what kind of girl I was expected to be. I wanted to feel normal and boys didn't even accept me in their groups. Before that I'd always flip-flopped on my gender presentation. Being trans but not knowing it, my mindset was something like "I've gotta at least try this whole 'being a woman' thing and give it my all" ya know?

I've always thought that butches were often sidelined on Glee. Probably the only time I saw a form of masculinity that felt distinctly queer was with Dave and bear culture, and both were shelved for nearly half of the show's run. And there's Sheldon, but he didn't come out until season 6. The only butch lesbian character we got was Dani, who barely got to do anything. In S2 and S3, it's implied that Santana doesn't want to be stereotyped as a butch lesbian but the show never indicates that being stone butch isn't something to be humiliated over.

So that's a big part of why girl!Dave is so appealing to me.

Back to my headcanon for girl!Dave ( @angelhummel suggested the name Dove jokingly, but I honestly think that's super cute):

So I envision Dove as being very contradictory in her gendered behavior and mannerisms. Being a longtime friend of Azimio, they're often seen together bullying the gleeks and other "losers" in the same way as canon. She's always in her Cheerio uniform though, and almost always wears the jacket over it even on warm days because she's very conscious of her body. Her and Azimio date on and off but it never goes anywhere (Az is more aware that he's a beard than she is).

She's always been more of a teammate than a friend of most of the Cheerios because they used to tease her in middle school. Her and Santana fucking hate each other. She's pretty tight with Brittany though. Dove has aspirations of being the HBIC and Head Cheerio. She's a pretty talented cheerleader, but not as dainty-looking and "pretty" as the others, so she doesn't get as much credit as she deserves.

I feel like Dove would be more willing to join Glee than Dave, because I think Dave was more concerned about seeming gay for singing and dancing than being deemed a loser (although those two are closely related in his eyes). But when people think of showchoir, they don't usually think of lesbians, although it's not surprising when lesbians end up in showchoir. So I think Dove would feel safe enough to take a chance, especially since Dave (though he pretends not to be) is VERY interested in glee club.

She and Finn would have an interesting relationship. They have a lot of the same interests and they would both probably want to date each other at some point (for different reasons of course). He would also probably (eventually) be the first person she comes out to, and he wouldn't be disappointed about it because he would still be pining for Rachel lol.

I think you're right about girl!Kurt (Kate/Liesl/Katherine/Elizabeth) in a way about her being more palatable than boy!Kurt because you can't really tell by looking at her that she's a lesbian. Remember that Kurt never officially came out to the school; everyone just automatically knew because he fit the stereotype. With Liesl, she's definitely the kind of girl that wears fashionable suits, but that could be, like, a girlboss thing. She's always been a beautiful diva ice queen who doesn't care what anyone else thinks. I'd say her initial popularity at the school was comparable to, say, Lauren Zizes before she joined Glee. She still gets slushied for being in glee club, but she doesn't get singled out. At least, not at first.

After Liesl comes out to Mercedes and then her dad in a very different version of Preggers, she gets asked out by Puck and she's like, "fuck it, I'm gay" and word spreads and she gets a lot of sexual harassment. It's kind of like IKAG, except it's ongoing. Of course, it doesn't help that she doesn't have as scary of a reputation as Santana. This all happens shortly after Dove joins the New Directions so, in true Karofsky fashion, she nopes the hell out of there and says something incredibly homophobic on her way out.

I don't think she would single out Liesl like Dave did in S2, and there are two reasons for that:

1. Dove has already befriended Liesl and they were getting along very well. She has a crush on Liesl and is in denial but she's not angry about it like Dave would be because they have friendship to fall back on. And even before Liesl came out, Dove looked up to her and thought she was really cool.

2. Because she already knows what it's like to be subjected to homophobic bullying. Middle school was really tough on her in her tomboy days. So sure, if she's panicking or needs to save face, she'll casually say some lesbophobic shit, but targeted harassment would bring up too many memories for her. The cognitive dissonance would be too intense at that point.

But I don't know. Maybe she would go after Liesl. If she did though, Azimio would 100% call her out on her bullshit because he already knows that Dove's gay, thinks she's become a miserable person to be around due to her denial, and wishes she would just get over it and stop pretending to be someone she's not. Then again, he might do that anyway.

She would decide to rejoin the glee club eventually and apologizing to Liesl, but not before reaching peak bitchy, mean-girl cheerleader levels that would put Santana to shame.

In S2 after The Sue Sylvester Shuffle and losing her Cheerio status, she would freak out because she never learned how to dress herself heterosexually and has to ask Liesl for help, and there's a reveal at the end where she steps into the halls of McKinley dressed like a baby butch and it's so sweet I'm gonna cry.

let's find queer themes in a goofy anime (part 2)

I'm currently re-watching Ouran. In a previous post, I looked at episode 9 (A Challenge from Lobelia Girls' Academy) through a transmasc lens. I talked about how Haruhi's experience with the Lobelia girls is not too far off from many transmascs' experience with r/adf/ems. Now I want to contrast that with the Ouran boys' response.

While the Lobelia girls wait for Haruhi to decide about joining them, Haruhi has a minor spat with the boys over something else and storms off - which makes them fear that they really might lose her.

Tamaki: "Gentlemen, just think about it. Haruhi may be basically indifferent, but if she had to choose, we know that she tends to favor men's clothing, and besides, when she first joined the host club, didn't she tell us… (cut to Haruhi in a flashback) 'Being a host and getting fussed over by a bunch of girls might not be that bad.' Why didn't I realize this before? Perhaps they would be a better match for Haruhi."

(I take the implication here to be "Maybe Haruhi actually is a butch lesbian.")

The next day, Haruhi finds the Lobelia girls waiting for her outside the club room:

"Are you prepared to leave? […] You should come with us - and go to school with your own kind."

And then the club room doors open. And this week, the tableau is:

Note: Mori is the only one presenting masc, which COULD have a boring reason - but I prefer to think that perhaps his gender identity is similar to Haruhi's - that he's actually doing Gender Crimes all the time. After all, here's how comfortable Haruhi is in a girly dress:

Anyway, Benio takes offense:

"What is the meaning of this? Are you trying to make fun of womankind?"

Tamaki explains, with characteristic sincerity:

"No, that's not it at all. Haruhi, you may be distracted by the Zuka club, but choose us! And you gain not only a host club full of brothers but sisters as well!"

"This way, you can experience feminine bonding while staying in the host club! Isn't that a great idea?"

The Zuka Club look furious. Haruhi laughs her face off.

Haruhi: "This is too much! I don't even get what you're trying to do! […] What were you thinking? What's gotten into you guys?" Honey: "We did this because we don't want you to leave the host club, Haruhi."

Haruhi pauses, then gives a smile. The Ouran theme begins to play and continues as Haruhi delivers her decision to the Lobelia girls:

"I'm sorry, but your club's not for me. I think the idea of a girl's school is great and your views are very unique and interesting, but I came to this school with a goal and a plan [...] I really already knew that I was never going to leave Ouran Academy."

SO. Is Tamaki's idea ridiculous? Sure. Tamaki's ideas often are, because he's an idiot. But he's a sincere idiot, so regardless of what Tamaki thought he was doing, let's talk about what they all did.

I see their gesture as an expression of solidarity. If I remember right, this episode is the first time we see queerphobia directed at Haruhi as a result of her role in the club - she got clocked, and easily could've been outed. We know that Tamaki feels responsible for the family he's put together - and probably blames himself for Haruhi being in this situation in the first place.

So in response, he organizes a drag show, which is possibly the most unapologetic way to say "queerness is welcome here". (It's also the least subtle, which uhh. Fits.)

The boys make themselves vulnerable to the consequences of visible queerness so that Haruhi doesn't have to face it alone. Her friendship means more to them than maintaining their status as gender-normal.

I do think it's relevant that this is presented in exactly the same style as their weekly costume theme reveal. They could have distanced this display from the official club, but they didn't. It's a public statement that the club has room in it for creative gender expression and they're not ashamed of that.

I also don't think it's coincidence that this episode is directly before the one where we meet Haruhi's father, who is a professional cross-dresser - but that's for another post.

Which character's basic personality and backstory has changed the most in the past few years? Which one has stayed more or less the same?

Oh boy, A LOT has changed.

Lucy becoming a trans butch lesbian that doesn't take estrogen or go through surgery was very big brained of me. Bc there are cis women! Who don't want tits! And present very masculinely! There are cis women with 5 o' clock shadows! And flat chests! She becomes a community organizer after she loses her sense of smell during a riot and is traumatized to the point of being unable to be at the front lines anymore and grappling with the fact that it's okay and learning there are millions of ways to engage in mutual aid! She becomes a community organizer and has a talent in conflict mediation.

Emma is a gender non-conforming Arslani doe who is ENORMOUS and comes from a very large Filipino family (taken in after her Ina's (mom's) best friend (who is Arslani) is killed in a fatal accident). Emma presents very masc and is often mistaken for a bull, but she shrugs it off. She still IDs as female (She's a product of the 60s and 70s, so she was definitely seen as a bull by the average human), but her gender is not very important to her and does what she feels most comfortable.

Bruce becoming a short king at 15'ish feet tall due to childhood malnutrition and becoming a tiny lil teddy bear for Emma is so god tier. Little crossdressing guy (definitely inspired by Klinger from M*A*S*H ) that would probably align closer to genderfluid in modern terms. Also he takes to city living like a champ in his adult life, entering the Philidelphia dance club scene in the late 70's/early 80s.

Emily (who is really my bff's oc but I kinda adopted somewhat on accident) is a disaster bisexual camp counselor who was dumped as a baby. Her bio dad is a powerful conservative human politician who had an affair with one of his staff and she chose to keep the baby against his wishes. He pays for the baby to be disposed of, but she is found by an Arslani garbageman making his rounds. He and a close friend decide to adopt her together and coparent. Emily is a Weird Little Girl. She gets in trouble for fighting at school a lot bc she playfights to rough since she is being raised alongside Arslani cubs (that are all like 8' tall and larger).

anyway aside from being very feminine, her personality is pretty much the same as Edgar's. the only major difference to take into account is that she is more comfortable being the soft, squishy-emotioned person she is due to society's expectations of women vs men. very high-femme lesbian lady.

Noel (Noah) is more on the pantsuit side of things- not necessarily "butch", but definitely more gender neutral physically than how Edie presents herself. she doesn't like how much she's been pushed by the people around her into fitting the "sweet quiet soft-spoken girl" mold. Noah is naturally a very dominant personality imo; he isn't aggressive, but he definitely steers most things and likes having things his way, so you can see how that would translate to Noel. she's a matriarch!

I can only imagine that Isabelle (Isaac) is still as gnc as always. of course Isaac is a lot more than choosing to be super femme in appearance (they also have their masc days :)), but it's a pretty important part of their character that I think would be flipped with Isa. she really enjoys dressing masc.. it's the 80s tho and being anywhere NEAR gnc is extremely dangerous so they keep it on the down low.

Its kinda funny your journeys total opposite, i figured out my sexuallty at 15 but took soo long with gender and youre vice versa! Ive only seen genderfluid "shift" between man woman and nonbinary but mines more woman and nothing?? Wack. Hows your gender since its bi? Is it both at same time or do you shift sometimes?

Right? My sexuality discovery was thrown off by a few factors tho. Being ace was the biggest cus I had no frame of reference for attraction outside of sxual (which I didn't experience), then I found nobody interesting enough to date & I had f/os already to fill my desire for romantic love. Then when I did fall in love for the first time I thought I was a lesbian & that's why I wasn't interested in boys.

But then my partner came out as a transgender man a week into our relationship. Which I was 100% accepting of and supported him wholly, but it did confuse me a bit in the sexuality department. But my partner after that was agender, and the one after came out to me as a transgender woman too. So after all that accidental t4t I realised I am panromantic and demipansexual. Gender just doesn't matter to me when it comes to who I fall for. Whoever fits, just fits and I love them for who they are.

As for my gender though I primarily identify with being masc. I see myself more as a guy than I do a girl, but I am definitely both. Which one I vibe with more does shift around, sometimes even in the same day tho it tends to be more consistent over weeks/months. And it's hard to really explain what it feels like because tho I identify with both, I'm also neither because I was never really a woman and never really a man. It's different.

I experience gender envy/dysphoria for both genders. Which one it is depends on which one I currently identify with more. Like when I feel fem, and I see women who look/dresses the way I'd like to, I feel a strong sense of discomfort/inadequacy. But if I feel masc and see that exact same woman I just think she's beautiful. Vice versa for men who are gender envy. This does cause problems in my relationships.

So basically sometimes it's both, sometimes it's more one than the other, and sometimes it's kinda neither. I don't identify with they/them or any neopronouns though. I'm just a blend of masc/fem presentations of self that shifts from one side of the spectrum to the other. But at the same time, I think gender is just made up so I don't even know what masc/fem even is. Its just a vibe and a feeling lol. Ig if I had to sum up my ultimate "thats my gender" vibe then it'd be like a man who loves to present "girly". Yknow like cute clothes + makeup + hair, etc.

That being said tho, not being seen as a woman too fills me with deep discomfort so therefore, I am both. I hope that made sense. I experimented this year with being fully transmasc but after doing that I realise that definitely isn't me. So 🤷‍♂️ I'm a man but also a woman but also not but also both but also neither I am ever changing.

I ask people to call me he/him and she/her interchangeably cus just one isn't good enough, even if I do feel exclusively one at the time. I can just say "hey don't call me he/him today" if I don't feel that way and my friends/husband respect it.

Old issue at this point, but the American reception to Dragona Joestar really is emblematic of the remaking of the gender binary into a 'woke' version. As presented in the manga, Dragona is called Jodio's brother and uses he/him pronouns. He also has a stereotypically feminine appearance and has canonically had surgeries to achieve this.

It is of course important to understand this in the context of Araki's treatment of women in past chapters. And he has in fact repeated these tropes with Dragona. However, especially with any knowledge of how gender is seen in Japan, there is no reason to view his pronouns and presentation as unintended or inherently transphobic.

I have seen person after person use she/her or they/them when referring to him, not due to any textual support but their own confusion and discomfort. Dragona may be a binary trans woman, or a gnc man, or whatever the fuck his heart desires. That is irrelevant to his pronouns. The idea that he cannot possibly use or like he/him due to his presentation is incredibly restrictive and disrespectful.

Viewing pronouns as inherently tied to gender or presentation only rebrands transphobic ideas of gender being inherently tied to sex. It implies an inherent scale between 2 points of male and female which are tied to certain appearances and behaviors, and everyone falling somewhere on it. E.G. the idea of having to be a masc or fem aligned nonbinary, or stereotypically feminine traits in men causing jokes about how they're secretly trans women and don't realize it yet.

This is harmful to not only the people who fall outside these categories but also those who are comfortable within them. It perpetuates stereotypes in queer spaces that cause fear and ostracization. And it is completely ahistorical to the movement as a whole. Accepting gender as a construct means both acknowledging the utility and weight of its signifiers in a personal and societal context, while also releasing yourself and others from the obligations thereof.

A trans man and a butch lesbian can look or act exactly the same and that makes them no less different or authentic in their existence. Promoting men wearing skirts or makeup while simultaneously viewing them as less their gender is hypocritical and still presents maleness as a default that femininity and womanhood is an aberration or change to. Saying you support trans people and gender nonconformity is incongruous with assigning certain traits to certain genders.

It is of course entirely possible that Araki has some level of misunderstanding or ill intent in his representation of Dragona. It is also possible that his identity or pronouns will change over the course of the manga. However, as currently presented, that is what he wants and is comfortable with. As a reader, in the same way you wouldn't misgender someone who doesn't fit your standards for presentation in real life it should also be applied to characters. This is not a matter of personal headcanon but the material as it is presented.

I'm not attributing intent or malice to those who do this. It is very much not about accusations of queerphobia or inciting self flagellation. This is about explaining how these actions are harmful and what they perpetuate. It is an invitation to think about how you view these categories and apply them to the world, even subconsciously.

Part of having moral and ethical principles is recognizing your own flaws in these areas. That is always the first step to understanding and improvement.

oh it's just that pronouns aren't gender, they are presentation. Like he/him is masc the same way shaving your head can be. Someone wearing a dress doesn't automatically make them a woman even though it signifies that (presentation) As pronouns don't automatically make someone a certain gender but it signifies that gender (you can usually assume someone who uses she/her is a woman, but that may not be true). He/him lesbians are typically already masculine/butch lesbians who present masc and do so via pronouns along with other methods (hair, clothes)

Sexuality Headcanon:

HSY: biphobic bisexual etc. Etc. She doesn't think she's straight and she doesn't think she's gay. She straight up just doesn't think about it but she does have this inexplicable hatred towards bi people also poly people because somebody's definitely gotta be jealous of somebody else in this situation and ppl are definitely being left out and she just thinks they should stop lying to themselves and just be in couples like normal peopeb

YSA: I don't have a strong hc for her - I've gone from seeing her as bi to lesbian to aro and none of them really stuck in my head as "yes, this is her". I have to write her more to figure it out!

Gender Headcanon:

I think it's very funny when HSY is just a fucking cis girl and has absolutely no gender going on. I ALSO think having her present more masc or express some degree of gender fluidity is very good too. WRT the "cis girl" thing I think this could be a case of like with her sexuality where she just straight up never Thought about it because she grew up so isolated from other people. If she's gf (gluten free) she definitely transes her gender later. same applies to kdj tbh.

A ship I have with said character:

HSY - sangsoo had me in a chokehold for like the first 200 chapters of orv i was vacuuming up those crumbs like a cordless dyson and i think even wit yhk they do kiss occasionally to maintain their sisterly bonds you understand. and jhw is there too ofc ofc. And of course yoohankim ❤️ three bottoms in a trenchcoat. destined soulmates because they ❤️ chose kdj every time and ❤️ are responsible for the deaths of millions for each other and are two sexy people cursed by some guy's dick and yeah. it's good. I'm a very firm believer in not separating them but doksoo is of course phenomenal and 1863rd + 1865th yoohan has me in a fucking chokehold. 1863rd HSY throws her life away for all of eternity and damns millions for the sake of just one man's life and is doomed to never meet him and reconcile that. Screams. HSY was also the first person SP made a covenant with (which says all you need to know about SP's personality LMDJSJSJ) and the way she is the arbiter of YJH's destruction in 1863 and the way they tiptoe around each other in 1865-onward??? god God god god there's so much they need to acknowledge about each other.

wrt sangsoo - I love it and I think it's more than just dog girl/cat girl gf syndrome. I think there's a lot to be explored wrt how YSA grew up around fake rich people and she meets this woman who gives absolutely zero shits about any decorum whatsoever. HSY grew up around no one and YSA grew up around So Many but never felt Loved. And then this very short hissing cat hisses into her life and wow this is the exact opposite of what she expected love to look like. But it's Genuine.

YSA - me <3, sangsoo, yooyoohankim but not really. Like. My feelings about this are very conflicted but I think she's the most adjacent to them if that makes sense. Like if anyone was gonna be their fourth it would obviously be her but I just can't see her being romantic with any of them WHEN they're a unit (including hsy). Like. I think the three of them fight over who gets to be her date to public functions. Like she's the main character of their breakfast table gossip. Bonus OT3 - one of my Twitter mutuals brought up the possibility of YSA/JHW/LHS where the two of them basically amicably share JHW and I think that's super cute . Give her a boyfriend and a girlfriend .

YSA- YOOYOO YOOYOOOOOOO YJH YJH YIH YJH YJH YJG THERE'S SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR HILARITY AND NOBODY UNDERSTANDS. NOBODY UNDERSTANDS THE LEVELS OF COMEDIC DUO AND #GIRL SOLIDARITY THESE TWO COULD GLHAVE TOGETHER AFTER HE TRIES TO KILL HER 84 TIMES ONE DAY ILL WRITE A DISSERTATION ABOUT THIS. Yooyoo is that character dynamic where one person takes a rivalry SUPER seriously and the other is extremely oblivious about it but of course YSA isn't oblivious about anything. She's extremely pleasant to him for the express purpose of pissing him off more. I think after joongdok are solidly a thing he stops being a freak towards her and then we get the powerful #girl friendship, because I believe that a lot of his initial dislike towards her stems from the fact that she seems to intuitively understand kdj so much better than he does. and of course because I have to make even brotps poly add LHS for <3 yeeyee <3

also YSA/SWK. I want them to work out whatever the fuck is going on there. Like...Did YSA adopt any of her memories? Did she keep any tics,mannerisms from her body's previous owner? A NOTP I have with said character:

Honestly HSY/JHW?? though disclaimer when I say NOTP 90% of the time I'm not using it in the way most others do - very rarely does a ship genuinely BOTHER me. Like I'll read HSY/JHW fic and enjoy it, if you wrote me a good pitch you'd probably get me fully on board with it, I just think that TO ME their relationship is better as (this is gonna sound so "they're not gay they just have a brotherly bond!" im so sorry) two very different people who did NOT get along in any sense and still pushed that all aside and cooperated for the sake of something bigger than them both. And then grew to love each other like family out of it. I think adding a layer of sexual tension to that detracts from the genuine distaste they had towards each other - and not in the "but she's still so sexy way". they just straight up did not like each other, but they did love each other. does that make sense? probably not. but maybe one day they looked at each other after sharing a laugh, and each privately thought to themselves "hey? maybe she isn't so bad after all." and that was the start to a very slow-budding, but eventually unbreakable friendship. but of course first hsy said something stupid to break the mood and jhw nearly killed her

for YSA? none really I am open to anything.

A random headcanon:

HSY - hsy doesn't understand why she does things. she is incapable of self-reflection. she just acts. this was what kdj meant when he compared her to yjh. sorry to insert men into women's spaces but I'm gonna make this about KDJ for a second - he's really good at self-analysis but has zero emotional intelligence. Like he can objectively recognize trauma but has no idea how to guide himself through it and thinks that recognition is sufficient. hsy and yjh are the inverse of him where they are more emotionally intelligent (granted, not by much...) But aren't as good at self reflection

YSA - I kind of mixed this with opinion see below. Oh another one! I think that she and JHW taught the kids how to drive together :)

I love nice characters who are more than just their niceness! When they're optimistic and it's compelling! I firmly believe that YSA was KDJ's closest confidant - and therefore technically the most "complicit" in his constant self-endangerment - because she believed with him in possibility of a happy ending. And if he needed to do what he needed to do to get there, she'd support him unequivocally along the way.

HSY - I would straight up hate her if she was a real person that I knew. Like I would fucking despise her. Adore her as a character though she's my war criminal wifey <3 I've said this before but I have like. A very strong conviction that 1863!HSY is the most tragic character of ORV and whenever I think about her too long I go absolutely insane. A mutual on twitter mentioned how the original sin in orv is actually love...
