"Hey, um… can I ask you something?" 

Has Ortega been coaching him? That's his line to weasel in through your defenses and get you to open up about something… or at least consider it. You give Herald a narrow look over the top of your sunglasses, but decide to throw him half a bone since he actually managed to land something of a hit on you in training today. "Fine, you can ask, but I don't have to answer."

"Yeah, those are the rules," he agrees too easily, and now you're certain Ortega has been coaching him. He nods to himself as he considers how to phrase his query, blue eyes bright and inquisitive under his bouncing golden bangs. "So, I met someone, a young girl, a few years ago. She said she knew you before you became Sidestep, and that you saved her from being kidnapped."

You freeze, cookie forgotten halfway to your mouth as you gape at him before snapping your mouth shut. How on earth could he possibly know about Sadie? 

"She said she couldn't ever forget you, and I was wondering if you remember her?" 

"Of course I do…" Fuck, she must be in high school now. Maybe even college. The first person you ever saved of your own volition, your own choice. The first step into actually living. Free, mostly. Still chasing human approval and acceptance like a dog, riding high on gratitude, reliant on gratuity. You shake your head, rattling those chains of the past loose. You're no one's dog now. 

"... that okay, Riley?" 

You jerk with the realization that he was still talking to you and scrub your face roughly with your hand. "Yeah, sure," you mutter before sinking your teeth back into the soft cookie he bribed your time with, not willing to admit you didn't hear a word he said. 

"So, what was her name?" 

"Why do you want to know that?" The growl of your tone makes him flinch just a little. Good.

"Well, I mean…" He flounders, trying to figure out where he misstepped with you. "It's kind of hard to find someone again without even a name to go on?"

Oh. Fuck. That was what he asked? To track her down? Reunite you? He's as big a meddler as Ortega. Bigger, maybe. Ortega, at least, has stopped stepping in your past like dog shit. Mostly. 

"No." You say it with the flat finality of a closed door, shutting it in his face. She doesn't need to know how far her hero has fallen. Bad enough that he still clings to what you were, despite your attempts to divorce him from such idealism. "Leave that girl alone." 

"But you said I could—" 

"I changed my mind!" The bark is punctuated with a smack to the table that startles him into silence. As all eyes in the café turn to you, you just as quickly turn them away as you rise, slapping some bills on the table. 

"Sidestep is dead," you hiss the stark reminder in his ear as you pass, resisting the perverse urge itching under your skin to shatter the window of his hope and reveal just what crawled out of that particular corpse. "Let her stay that way."

I fully believe that Total Drama's biggest crime was not changing it's cast every season.

Last weekend, a friend and I rewatched Death Takes a Halliwell and I was actually really surprised that the episode subtly tells you that Phoebe doesn’t actually know who Cole is, specifically that he isn’t as good of a person as Phoebe thinks that he is. You can tell on how they respectively react when Cole’s landlady is murdered by the Seekers, who are searching for him.

Phoebe is horrified by this and feels guilty, all of that. When she tells Cole about it, her argument is that they have to find the demons who did it to prevent them from hurting anyone else. When Cole agrees to let her help, Phoebe tries to comfort him about Mrs. Owen’s (his landlady) death by telling him that avenging an innocent feels good.

In pretty stark contrast to this, Cole’s focus is only on Phoebe. When Phoebe tried to comfort him by talking about avenging an innocent, I noticed that Cole doesn’t mention or even allude to caring about or protecting any innocents. And I mean, he doesn’t. He doesn’t care about innocents, he cares about Phoebe. 

Phoebe projects her own guilt about a lost innocent and desire to protect future innocents on to Cole, and what’s crazy is that she doesn’t even notice she does this. When they get to Cole’s apartment, Phoebe has a moment of horror when she sees the blood stain from Mrs. Owen’s murder, but it doesn’t even phase Cole. In contrast, he goes to his old room and has a moment about being into Phoebe. 

Just. Phoebe unintentionally creating this idea of Cole in her head, of someone who is like her and wants to be good, when in reality, he isn’t like that at all.

Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the Women's World Title - I think someone else is dethroning Rhea. She’s way too popular right now too.

Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Title - same as above. Someone more formidable is dethroning Gunther.

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest) (c) vs. #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) vs. The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) vs. New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate) in a Six-Pack Ladder match for the Undisputed WWE tag Team Titles - apparently the titles are getting split, so there’s that.

Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso - Jimmy has essentially been booked as a joke. He needs this win more than Jey does. Jey will be fine, but for some melodramatic reason I see Jey sacrificing himself for his big brother’s sake.

Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane) - no brainer. WWE are not letting Jade lose her very first match.

Latino World Order (Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee) vs. Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio - Dragon Lee has been replaced by Andrade. The result won’t change because Carlito will turn on Rey for looking him over again.

Roman Reigns and The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth "Freakin'" Rollins - Why have another standard main event match when Bloodline Rules stipulation has been thrown out there? Also, Rock pins Cody. The storyline has focused much more on them and this heaps more adversity on Cody to win.

NIGHT TWO

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for the World Heavyweight Title - Seth’s done all he can do with his reign. Drew has earned a title win in front of fans. The Bloodline may cost Seth. No comment on that guest hypocrite commentator.

Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley for the WWE Women's Title - No brainer. Bayley gets her redemption story. Iyo has been good but her title reign has run its course.

Logan Paul (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens for the WWE United States Title - I honestly couldn’t choose, so I picked KO because I like him the best. The match will be fire though.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles - I’m not very invested in this match. May the better white man win.

Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins vs. The Final Testament (Karrion Kross, Akam, and Rezar) in a Philadelphia Street Fight - I’m DEFINITELY not invested in this match. Get Bobby, Montez and Angelo out of this garbage feud, pronto!

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title - My Tribal Chief has had one of the greatest title reigns and orchestrated one of the most compelling storylines in pro wrestling history. He’s beaten the entire roster. It’s time to move the responsibility of ‘Face of the WWE’ to someone else. I like Cody. Wrestling with a torn pec for 30 mins earned my respect. I think he will do a great job of carrying the company and the matchups will be fresh. It will be Bloodline Rules to make way for all the overbooking that’s going to take place in this match. The Rock will turn on Roman to cost him the title and kick-start their feud for WM41.

Im counting this as an ask - you've picked... The Team Escope TDWT AU!

This is 100% based on both another AU idea i had in my head (Hbombs vs Alenoah TDWT final four) and a take on @/real-total-drama-takes about Eva being on TDWT.

The main gist is instead of Tyler and Sierra getting on Team Chris, Eva and Izzy do, and the team is instead called "Team Escope". Alejandro's already a bit thrown by his team's general chaos and by Noah's presence (since he was Chris's assistant during the taping of Total Drama Dirtbags, a show Chris briefly tried filming that got cancelled before the mid season.), but he starts warming up to them while he tries to work on getting the other teams eliminated.

However, things don't turn out how he'd hoped since Team Victory, lead by the surprisingly competent duo of Lindsay and Harold, isn't failing nearly as badly as Alejandro expected. In fact, Harold makes it to the merge, and we get a final 7 of Alejandro, Noah, Eva, Harold, Heather, Gwen and Courtney (Heather was eliminated previously, got back during Niagra Brawls).

Gwen and Courtney get the double elimination, Noah and Alejandro aren't on amazing terms currently, Harold and Heather are seriously teaming up and seem to actually be friends, and Eva mostly just hopes she's still got a chance to win. After African Lying Safari where Alejandro and the Hbombs got immunity, Eva gets the boot; Harold and Heather want Eva out since out of the two she's the better player, Alejandro voted Eva because he wants to kiss be in an alliance with Noah, and Noah and Eva voted for Noah (Noah because he lowkey wants out and thinks he's going out anyways, Eva because she still wants to win and knows Noah would probably understand).

After Drumheller, Harold gets blown up and is booted instead of Alejandro (who had gotten the most votes. Even Noah voted for him.). Heather's trying extra hard to get in the Final 2 now, especially since she's motivated by the power of friendship now and Alejandro and Noah are still dancing around eachother (in a way similar to what happends in Slippery Slopes) Until they all reach Hawaii and Heather and Alejandro are both participating in the Tie-breaker for their last shot at competing in the final challenge. Alejandro wins the tie-breaker, they do the final challenge, kiss at the top of the volcano and Noah wins the season.

I think in general Eva being in TDWT would cause interesting changes in the dynamics of Team Escope since she's much less trusting than Tyler and even stronger than him, although she does have a weakness for pretty boys (bisexual moment). I think Alejandro in this AU has to rely on his team's strengths wayyy more than in canon, and in turn actually befriends most of these weirdos. keyword is most (he's still not a fan of Owen).

OTHER BIG CHANGES ARE:

-Tyler straight up does not compete

-Obviously Harold making it to the merge with her mad skills

-Trans Harold is real, she comes out mid season lol

-DJ, Lindsay and Harold are the team Victory trio for a couple of episodes

-Cody gets eliminated in episode 3 instead of Harold

-Owen gets the boot in episode 10

-Heather gets booted in I See London

-Sierra and Duncan both get eliminated earlier, both pre merge :

Sierra gets the boot instead of Tyler in canon maybe? Gwourtney happends in this AU so they don't vote for eachother and instead for her.

Duncan just does NOT mesh well with Team Escope's entire dynamic. Eva doesn't like him because of course she wouldn't, Noah doesn't like him because he's a dick in general and Alejandro doesn't like him because his borderline obsession with bullying Harold is costing them challenges + he's friends with Courtney in this AU too so that's an additional reason to dislike him.

-i uh, i haven't thought about when Izzy gets out? maybe she's the last out before the merge? but she does have to kiss Eva before that happends soooo (i AM inserting Evzy in this and you can't stop me)

Receiving: It might take a little convincing; she doesn't like applying more makeup to cover them up if you get a little out of hand, but in the moment, Rosemary would enjoy them.

Giving: Yes, if you were into it; he himself isn't all that into giving hickeys. Tai would make sure to keep it out of view of unwanted eyes, though.

Hello Lola! This your nice ask week ask! I want to know the origin story of you as a fic writer! What was it that drove you into this life? And I'd also love to know: A someone who collaborates with other writers, what is it like to develop a story and work on it with someone else? How is that organised and scheduled? Not to get too col and corporate about it, but I was to know the strategy lol

hey cig, you know there's nothing i like more than corporate catch phrases, so i couldn't help but circle back to this ask 💜

i started writing fic when i was about 14, although none of those stories exist on the internet anymore (thankfully). truthfully, i've dabbled in creative writing my entire life - i remember sitting out the front of my parents' campervan on holiday and scribbling stories as a six or seven year old - so fic writing was a natural extension of that.

as for co-writing fic - i'd encourage everyone to give it a go if you haven't already. imo it's an incredibly rewarding experience (way better than group projects at school or team building games on corporate retreats). i think the number one thing to remember is that co-writing requires more flexibility - you have to give up any timing expectations and some creative control. but if it works, if the vibe is good, you'll end up with something even better than you could have written yourself.

one of my favourite parts of the experience is bouncing ideas back and forth and getting increasingly ridiculous. seeing the original aquarium rock disaster idea come to life in the rainbow fish was one in a long line of incredibly fun moments writing with jen (@strandnreyes). similarly, the owen strand fire safety agenda in (un)professional services was something that rae (@rmd-writes) and i laughed over for DAYS and kept bringing back in as we wrote successive parts. i also count all my rosie (@dustratcentral) fics as co-writes even though she will fight me (cursed is a state of mind, the ring-in, phonography, the morning (part 2), carlos and the baby c- omg sorry, spoiler) because writing someone else's brilliant idea is a task in itself and i'm so lucky that she lets me do that from time to time 💜

i think the easiest way to do it is to each pick a pov and go from there. a structure/outline will definitely help you, which is most commonly established by dumping all of the ridiculous messages from a chat into a google doc. then it's a matter of writing, reading what the other person has written and constantly checking in to make sure that you understand where the fic is going.

to be honest, every finished co-write i've done (and some are fleeting and don't quite get off the ground and you have to be okay with that) has been very, very easy. i actually think that they're easier to write than solo fics (but that might just be me). something about the shared experience really gets me going!

Because I missed the rewatch for the beginning of season 3, im dropping my live reactions below for the first two episodes. Season 3 is my favorite season so very excited we're here for the rewatch. This is the season I started watching live but I don't think I caught up until like 3x06.

3x01, The Big Chill:

I really love the cut from Owen's "and we never give up ... Until hell freezes over" to the blizzard like 7 months later.

I feel like we start with the turtle people too early. The amount of screen time that passes between them discovering the kid under the ice to when TNT gets there feels waaaaaaay too long. One of the more clunky pacing issues for me.

3x02: Thin Ice

starting on the kid in episode 2 starts the build up over so seeing the turtle people first feels even more unnecessary.

I don't know fire fighter protocol but would it actually be okay for Mateo to stay behind at the roof collapse and not go with his house when they are called elsewhere?

I think what also makes the boy ice rescue feel so long and so unrealistic is that the close of the cold open ends with the turtle crawling over the boys face. The next time we get back to that rescue, grace picks up the 911 call from the woman who has already gone a whole block away to call from a landline. There's a disconnect in the scenes here. With the couples discovery of the boy being the first scene of the previous episode, it's unclear how much time has passed since the boy went under. She tells grace it's been at least 5 minutes since they showed up on the scene but since they split up the scenes of the boy going under and the couple showing up there's a lapse in urgency. I think this would have worked so much better if they just cut the discovery of the boy from episode 1 and just put it in 3x02 in chronological order of events. And then it cuts to TNT arriving but theres no indication of how much more time has passed. It's really kinda annoying. As an audience member all I can think about is the boy being underwater and the show taking their sweet ass time to get around to this rescue.

Every time TK says "I was a fire fighter in New York" all I hear is Britta's "I lived in New York" throughout the run of Community. 😭😭

Gahhhh and we don't even go back right back to that rescue after commercial break. Sorry ya'll I never realized how much this pacing bothers me until I decided I was gonna live blog this.

These episodes are such great Paul episodes. I feel like that gets kinda lost in all the Tarlos drama.

This girl Lindsey has such low self esteem. Her and Paul's interactions throughout this episode is such a wonderful little story of finding confidence. They should bring her back at some point so we can see her thriving!!

For once can we see TK do a cool rescue where he doesn't end up mortally injured??

I saw someone else say this on here and I apologize for forgetting who it was but it is kinda weird that these paramedics don't get TK to perform any warming techniques after that dip into the water though I suppose they all three are more concerned about the boy, which is understandable. Still ... Kinda weird to not be able to multi task as medical first responders

Ok like I know there are stories of people surviving drownings even though they were under for awhile. It's just the pace of this rescue stretches it out soooooo long that it seems unrealistic especially with how the kid just wakes up coughing a bit of water. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Sometimes I just gotta laugh when the show has the paramedics spout off all the medical buzzwords so the audience understands what's happening. OKAY so im getting some eyes on me now so my stupid ass better start explaining my au "i dont wanna be famous" so here we go

(real quick tw cause this au involves murder, death, obsession, etc so yeah i never specified just wanna be clear dhdvsj)

this is a future au (obvi)

it starts with emma and noah who are married. noah thought he was happy, but something just felt off. that, was because well, he was gay, and didnt realize until 3 years into the marriage, so when he told her it wasnt pretty and they ended on a pretty sour note. this lead to noah getting depressed and feeling like he had lied to her for years, thankfully for him, cody came into his life after 15 years (yeah this takes place during the reboot lol) and they really hit it off and officially started dating and a year later they got married. awesome! one problem however. before cody found noah again, he was good friends with sierra according to him, but to her she felt like he just needed just a little push for them to start dating. (TO BE 100% CLEAR, cody has ZERO interest in sierra, but she doesnt believe so, she is NOT a good person and frankly dangerous for cody to be around and this au acknowledges that, coderra shippers stay a thousand feet away from this au please thanks 🫶) and safe to say she is NOT happy about noah coming into his life when she felt she was "doing everything correctly". noah clearly sees that sierra is not fond of him and that cody needs to get away from such a dangerous person, but since codys been her friend longer and hes felt shes gotten better (hes always been a little naive to sierras actions tbf) he keeps her around, to the dismay of noah.

the main thing that sets everything off is during a visit to owens house, noah finds hes been murdered. with the murder of his best friend he want to find out who the killer is (gee i wonder who it could be hmmm... yeah im not really keeping it a secret lol)

and yeah thats basically what starts the plot off into motion and theres a LOT more i can talk about like how other characters play a part, etc, but ill mostly relay that info in small bits and not write it all here cause that would take a long ass time lol maybe ill open my asks for yall to ask about it if im brave enough but uhh yeah thats all for now

OH THIS IS A GOOD ONE… (not owen) made me laugh thank you. this didn’t end up being Quite what you asked but here are my hopes for s5!:

marjan is easy: comphet realization to lesbian arc. I don’t even need them to give her a gf i just want them to Address The Closeted Lesbianism they’ve been handing me over the past four seasons. i want salim to come back (in person or in conversation) for the rule of threes and have it force her to reckon with a lot of assumptions she had about herself. im on my hands and knees about it. I’ve been rewatching with a friend recently and i fucking forgot that they have her say a line about how her favorite place to hide as a kid was the closet. remember those new bts photos where she’s basically wearing the lesbian flag as a headscarf. lone star writers room i am IN YOUR WALLS. also i want to meet her sister. i need someone to call her mouse

nancy my beloved… honestly i just really want a nancy begins episode!! i want to know why she became a paramedic, i want to know about her relationship with her sister and if there’s any particular reason it was a soft spot for her during the DNR episode… I don’t have any particular ideas for specific i just want to know more about her!!! actually I’d love her to have to confront Tim’s death a little more directly. they made that whole thing about Owen which is fucking crazy to me, I’d love for the next time TK gets hurt (lol) for it to be something that dredges that up for her.

grace… miss grace i want to see you angry again. no plot line in mind i just like it when she’s pretending she doesn’t get angry or stubborn, she is such a fascinating character study. i love when she’s a contradiction. she and carlos teaming up was one of my favorite things abt s3, i would be so jazzed to see more things of that flavor.

tommy. hm… I don’t think I have any particular storylines for her in mind but I want more of her and grace and judd together because they are so delightful and lovely and best friends. OH ACTUALLY. I want something with tommy and charlie. this baby that was named in honor of the late love of her life. o don’t know what that story would be but there’s something there for sure…

carlos is the same as nancy tbh, I want a real full carlos begins! I want to meet his sisters! I want to see more of the mess that was growing up gay and feeling out of place and trying to be what your dad would want even though he thinks you’re too soft for it. why did he do it anyways! I also would love to see him and his mom being more involved, partially because obviously they had a horrible loss and trauma and she saw it happen but also because I love andrea:) she’s everything 2 me

judd I have been waiting for them to make you captain since SEASON THREE!! i want owen to retire and i want them to expand on the tension we got for the period he was captain!! i want to see how the dynamic changes and how his past issues come up when he’s in charge For Good. i want to see him get emotional about it and i want him to be captain while wyatt is his probie if they put him back on the firefighter track after his recovery :) bc that would be fun conflict and i think everything they did with owen (traumatically lost whole crew, son on your team) would be 100x better with judd

mateo is also a difficult one for specifics. I feel like they’re relatively fair with him? even with the low screentime all the secondary characters are relegated to. I’d be interested in seeing more fallout about his cousin, and I LOVED what they did with him and captain tatum so anything of that flavor of earnestness from him is always so good. maybe he and tatum will be buddies off the clock :)

tk getting hurt in increasingly absurd ways is always a classic that I look forward to them playing into lol

misc: i want to see more big brother wyatt with charlie getting a little older, i want less owen solo-plotlines, more ghost/memory gwyn i love her, carlos with his curls, the vega twins being involved in something maybe? that would be fun and stressful gjfhdhf

EDIT: OH MY GOD I FORGOT PAUL. I ABANDONED MY BOY. ok paul deserves literally any kind of robust plotline. Paul begins for starters, but also so much of his trans plotlines feel a little fumbled. I want a really earnest well done episode that isn’t necessarily About him being trans, but his transness is a factor and it’s handled in a really genuinely good and relatable way. they OWE HIM AND US THAT!! i also would love to see more of the gay kids being in gay spaces :)

This is such a gweather win but at what cost. LIKE.... i can see the episode playing out like gwen being gaslit into thinking that this is A Good Idea (its not)

Heather convincing gwen to vote for leshawna because it would look really lame of her if she didnt. it would hint more to the audience that gwen actually cares A Whole Lot about her appearances and how people perceive her (since a lot of people think thats a super thrown on attribute for her to have in all stars) and it would paint gwen as less of a saint

i have a big problem with the way gwen is portrayed to the audience. The writers want her to look like this misunderstood girl so shes painted as this dick in canon but theres nothing about her thats like... even bad until s3 (s2 too with the whole breaking up with trent) but even then gwen was NOT in the wrong for that shit idc.

I think the meanest thing i can recall her doing is calling lindsay an idiot in episode one, when EVERYONE is caught off guard with the state of what wawanakwa is like. Her being in a bad mood is literally the normalest shit that happens in this show im sorry. this show cannot convince me gwen is a bad person, unless it did this. WHICH WOULD BE MILES MORE INTERESTING THAN HOW SHE IS IN CANON. gwen is so fucking BORING DUDE I HATE IT. let this girl be fucked up and insane and EVIL.

If they made gwen stab one of her friends in the back because of her own insecurity it would tackle like the two biggest gripes about the way she is in canon. It would set up her being this insecure freak more (there was also the episode geoff got eliminated. her disliking that geoff wouldnt like her according to her own insecurity but that was also tacked on as fuck) AND it would make her do something actually note worthily bad because of it. she could be actually painted as this underdog in the finale, especially if there were even less people on her side because of that. like seriously. why would half of the people that are on owens team be on owens team besides just being forced on there to make gwen seem like more of a loser. i dont remember owen interacting with majority of them and a lot of them dont seem like the party type. courtney comes to mind but also ezekiel (i guess hes sexist and thats the reasoning i forgot about that) and fuckin idk tyler and harold. AND EVEN THEN....... they didnt know about the party thing. lindsay switched teams when she heard about the party thing. idk maybe im just misremembering about the lack of interactions between characters.

and parallel to the way gwen didnt even vote trent out when he was framed for cheating, leshawna could have seen that heather framed gwen as well. (i think it suits leshawnas character miles better to be forgiving idk. like tda can push this agenda that leshawna is secretly awful but that shit is so unreal to me) gwen could be thinking all day next episode about how bad she feels about voting for leshawna, for letting her insecurities get the better of her, but Gwen and leshawna could make up and be bffs again in the finale. would it be too much to have this thing between both gwent and gweshawna in the same episode? idk maybe. im here to spitball not to be an actual writer (if i were to be an actual writer i would fix gwent from being terribly and awfully executed throughout literally the entire season. pacing issues eaughh.)

this isnt even mentioning how bullshit leshawnas actual canonical elimination is but its talked to death so im not talking about it because i dont really care enough i cant lie.

i hate the writing in tdi so much sometimes actually though.
