recent developments in the babymetalverse if you haven't been on twitter or if you're just on tumblr plus big rant towards the end
k**a did an interview with pmc recently about babymetal and the metalverse and what direction they would be going in(i'll talk more about it later on)
it was announced that k**ametal(NOT Key Kobayashi a.k.a his real name) would be appointed as director of kulture co., ltd, and a part of the statement said that babymetal would be the forefront of that by using nft blockchains in regards to the metalverse
a shareholders meeting was held at amuse and the bm fans who were there straight up said that they didn't want the metalverse thing and wanted live shows for babymetal, and were concerned that other amuse groups are planning live shows while babymetal had none; it seems that amuse or bm's management(p.s i'm assuming koba was not there) are aware that on social media people are asking for live shows, and that they would have plans for it. (a fan that attended also said that they got a glimpse of a new music video as well, but of course we don't know anything as of now.)
k**a's pmc interview was finally translated, and there was a specific part of that interview that pissed a lot of people(including me) off. if you want my opinion on it, it's on my twitter(same username as this one)
Tumblr media
i'm just gonna add more of my thoughts. this man went from saying that live performances are essential to now doing nft crap that nobody cares about for some digitalization bullshit. this man was running the bm fandom DRY last year with the budokan shows and the fuckton of merch that dropped. now all of a sudden he acts like it never happened.
i find it very hard to believe that you can't find ANYBODY in a country of 125 MILLION people that you can re-hire for babymetal, while other amuse groups have been pushing out content or at least SOMETHING for the past two years. i have seen other groups go on tour this year and everything went okay. japan is slowly but surely opening up again for concerts and foreigners. (a group that i stan called seventeen recently had a fanmeeting in japan and it was PACKED)
you work for amuse, probably one of the biggest companies in japan!! they make a shit ton of money!! you have the resources right there??? USE THEM??
and also you just had live shows last fucking year?? do you remember the budokan shows?? with the incredible stage design, lighting and effects?? during the peak of the panfried chicken?? you had to have a team or somebody to make the black box, or other things regarding babymetal that came out literally TWO MONTHS AGO??? also no one is asking you to do an international tour?? just do something in japan??
i am so sick and tired of this man, and i have been for almost three years now. (i got back into bm in late 2019) this fandom is so sick and tired of you. you keep feeding us scraps. you keep making all of these stupid descions for no reason. we just want music! we just want su and moa!
and why are YOU the only one that is able to do out of character interviews? why are you the only one who is able to do appearances? you're so goddamn strict about your fucking lore when it comes to su and moa where they can't be seen out of character, and you and bm's managment or whoever the fuck probably dished out nda's to yui, the avengers, the chosen seven, the kami band, and every single person who has come in contact with bm so they can't mention them in the slightest, but when it comes to you it's radio silence?? aren't you also a part of lore?? how does that work?
yeah, you can make the arguement that su and moa don't want to do interviews or that it's in their contracts to have a social media ban but, isn't that so fucked? they can't post one tiny picture out of character because of some fuckass lore? they can't post anything in general? 'cuz i know moa probably doesn't want her face to be censored every time her friends hang out with her on social media. it's so stupid.
in conclusion, pls stop driving babymetal into the ground. if you can't manage babymetal anymore then just quit. it's so sad seeing babymetal reduced to just buisness and nfts instead of a functioning band that can interact with their fandom, because your an old dude who wants to do crypto or whatever.
and if any old dudes in this fandom want to make an argument about lore, lore and more lore, or "doing this and that messes up the lore," stop. i think this fandom is pass that by now. it's over. we just want babymetal to be a band. that's it.

In 2007, Owens, a senior at Stamford High School, made headlines for a very different reason: she was the victim of an alleged racial hate crime, which, peripherally, involved the son of Democrat Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, then-mayor of Stamford.
The incident set off a chain of events that, she said, eventually sparked her political ideology. Two years ago, Owens wouldn’t even have called herself a conservative.
EARLY MEDIA GLARE
The voicemails left on Owens’s phone by four boys in a car altered her life, Owens says.
“They started off by telling me that they were going to kill me ‘just because’ I was black,” Owens wrote in a 2016 op-ed published in Hearst Connecticut Media. “They warned me that if they found me at home, they were going to unload a bullet into the back of my head.”
Owens told the principal and the story spread quickly to state and national media, especially when Malloy acknowledged that his son was in the car.
The NAACP held press conferences with Owens. Police and FBI investigated the incident and one seventeen-year-old boy, who Owens says was a friend of hers, was arrested.
Owens’s family sued the Stamford Board of Education for failing to protect her and won a $37,500 settlement.
“If I was a leftist or if I was a true Democrat, I would relish in victimhood. I would love that. I would say I’m black, I’m a woman, I can’t do anything and it’s all your fault. That situation in high school would be the pinnacle of my life,” she said. “But I hated it. I cowed away from it. It ate me alive because I felt there was permanence in what was said about me.”
In response to Owens’s experience in high school, she decided to launch an anti-cyberbullying website - essentially a searchable database of offensive speech found on social media. She launched a Kickstarter to fund the effort and received a flood of criticism in response. She somehow jumped to the conclusion that liberals posing as Trump supporters online were behind the attacks because they did not want her to “unmask” them, Owens said.
This experience was Owens’s “red pill” - or conservative awakening, a la “The Matrix.”
She dropped out of the University of Rhode Island in her junior year, and devoted the next year to re-educate herself. She read works by Ann Coulter, Milo Yiannopoulos, Ben Carson and Thomas Sowell.
Now 29, no one would dare mistake Owens for a victim.
In her first YouTube video posted in August 2017, Owens came out as a conservative.
In the parody video, Owens’s parents - played by Owens - are accepting when she says she is a lesbian (she is not), but appalled that she is a conservative. In real life, Owens and her parents did not have a sit-down about her new ideology, Owens said.
“I was not surprised,” said Robert Owens, Candace’s father who now lives in Arizona. “We don’t agree on some issues, which I care not to mention, but I will say I support her in bringing both sides to the table; Democrats should not assume they have our vote because we are African Americans and Republicans should not ignore African Americans because they assume we are going to vote Democrat.”

Let Me Move You
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: BEST OF ME
Tumblr media
↳ Pairing: Choi Yeonjun x Reader
↳ word count: 2k words
↳ rating: G
↳ genre: fluff
Tumblr media
The fast-paced beats of music, the hard slam of feet on the floor, the heavy breathing after finishing a routine—all the things she held onto so fondly were gone.
Instead of Beomgyu snoring in one corner during break time, all she could see was some old man doze off in the reading nook. Instead of Kai and Taehyun bickering amongst themselves while giggling, she instead saw two students fight over the last copy of a history textbook. Instead of Soobin munching on bread in the middle of the dance floor, she could only see a middle school student not-so-subtly try to snack quietly as he studied.
Instead of Yeonjun standing behind her, hands on her waist and lips pressed to her ear as he told her about his day, she sat at the reception table waiting for the newly arrived booksto finish their upload into the system. As she watched the progress bar fill up, her thoughts ran wild.
She missed it—she’s not going to lie. Most of all, she missed him. She missed the way his eyes lit up, an ear-splitting smile on his face as they successfully perfected a complicated routine. She missed how he had the habit of pouting when he was concentrating on something. He missed the way he giggled everything he figured something out.
Her phone lit up, interrupting her train of thought. Y/N’s eyes fell down to her phone—a text from her father flashing on the screen, but her eyes locked onto the photo set as the background. It was her, sitting on the dance floor. Soobin stood behind her, doing some weird hand gesture and eyes trained on the ceiling—as if in the middle of explaining. A few feet in front of them was Yeonjun, dancing. In the beanbags by the corner sat Taehyun and Kai, with bottles of banana milk in their hands as Beomgyu slept beside them.
She missed them. She missed them so much.
“Hey, Y/N,” a voice cut her train of thought. “Have you finished filing the books?”
The girl flinched, eyes wide as she faced the woman smiling over at her.
“Ms. Park,” Y/N blinked, looking over at the computer flashin Upload Complete. “I guess I have.”
The woman smiled understandably, gently pushing a cart of books over to the girl.
“Alright, can you take this to the storage room, then?” The woman hummed. “I’ll shelve those for you.”
Y/N smiled gently, standing up and taking the cart. As she walked to the storage room, she can’t help but look at a young couple sitting by the side and laughing silently amongst themselves. Ignoring the slight pang in her heart, she bit her lip and turned to a corner—not stopping until she ended up in front of the storage room.
It wasn’t special. The storage was full of boxes and unlabelled books that were donated. It was old, dusty, abandoned—but what took Y/N’s breath away was the huge mirror on one side of the room. She forgot the storage room was an old dance studio.
The girl smiled softly, leaving the cart to the side and walking slowly over to stand in front of the mirror. She took a soft breath.
“5, 6, 7, 8,” She mumbled to herself as her feet and hands followed the routine perfectly like she practiced.
She danced as if she had a partner—as if Soobin was next to her, ready to lift her over to Yeonjun after three beats like he used to. She danced as if Hueningkai stood in the middle of the room to pull off his designated dance moves with extreme enthusiasm, as if Beomgyu was next to him biting his lip in concentration to perfect his moves, as if Taehyun was there singing under his breath to guide him as he danced.
“4, 3, 2…” She stopped, short of breath as she fell to her feet.
She can’t give this up.
She looked up at the mirror and she could almost remember how Yeonjun would approach her when she got too tired after practicing, always ready with a cold drink and a kiss to the lips as he smile proudly. Her ears rang, straining to hear his “You did so well today, baby,” that never came.
That’s why she picked herself up and ran.
All this time she didn’t know where she would go, but now she knew she’d always run back to him.
Tumblr media
Yeonjun laid on his couch, a frown on his face as he crossed his arms and glared at his face plastered on the television. He knew he would have to face some intrigue when he used his old Daniel account in attempt to reach Y/N—but he never expected this. All week, his phone and social media accounts blew up with reporters and dance fans trying to contact him.
Because that girl from the Emeralds, Sooah, broadcasted his name on one of the twitter replies, he was found by the media on his personal accounts as well.
God, he hated that bitch.
The boy hissed as his phone rang one more.
“What?” Yeonjun hissed. “I’m not interested in an interview.”
“I’m not going to interview you, Yeonjun.” A high-pitched voice giggled. “I’m Sooah, from the Emeralds—“
“Ah, you.”
“You know me?”
“Who wouldn’t?” Yeonjun deadpanned as he closed his television and rubbed his forehead. “Look, I—“
“I’m interested in you.”
“I’m sorry?” Yeonjun raised his eyebrows. “As a choreographer, right?”
“Sure, and the other way around too—but this is a business call. The rest can come later.” Sooah replied back, tone lilting.
Yeonjun sighed.
“Look, I don’t know what to tell you but I’m sure you know my answer.” Yeonjun sighed, groaning as he heard the doorbell ring incessantly. “You kinda ruined my life, Ms. Sooah.”
“Yeonjun—“
“Please call me Daniel, you said this call was business.” Yeonjun replied curtly as he opened the door with a harsh glare. “If this is another interviewer, I’m suing—“
Yeonjun’s eyes widened as his eyes fell on Y/N, hair falling down her face as she panted.
“Hello? Yeonjun?”
“The answer is no. This call is over, Ms. Sooah.” Yeonjun replied curtly, hanging up the phone and narrowing his eyes at the girl leaning on his doorway. “What are you doing here, Y/N?”
The girl held up a finger, catching her breath. Yeonjun’s eyes softened as he grabbed a bottle of water from a nearby table. Y/N smiled gratefully as she took a few sips, caliming down. The boy pursed his lips, crossing his arms as he stared at the girl.
“Why was Sooah calling you?”
“That doesn’t matter” Yeonjun replied, raising an eyebrow. “Why are you here?”
Because, I can’t give this up.” Y/N replied.
“Me?”
“Everything.”
Yeonjun raised an eyebrow.
“I was at work and I was just—I was bringing books tot he storage room—abandoned dance room—“ The girl stumbled over her words as she ran a hand through her hair. “And i just—I don’t know, I danced—all I could think—feel—was to dance with the boys. With you.”
“You were so hell-bent on giving up.” Yeonjun replied. “How sure can I be that you won’t change your mind this time?”
“Yeonjun,” Y/N shook her head softly. “I’m sure.”
“Are you?” Yeonjun asked. “Because you were last time too—but look what happened. You got hurt—I got hurt—The boys got hurt. You said you can’t waste your time—what about the time they spent for this?”
“I’m sorry, I really am.” Y/N pleaded. “But it’s not going to happen this time around, I promise.”
“Why?”
“I thought at first dancing could get me what I wanted, happiness didn’t matter—It was something I could forget when I’m done, but now?” Y/N chuckled. “Jun, dancing got me to you. It made me happy. I like being happy. You make me happy.”
Yeonjun closed his eyes, contemplating as he released a deep breath. In one movement, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her inside the room. He slammed the door shut and crossed his arms, observing her. The girl stood in her spot, fidgeting and biting her lip nervously under his gaze.
“Dancing…” Yeonjun started. “makes you happy?”
“It does.”
“Show me.”
Y/N smiled, turning over to the speakers on the table. She pressed play, excitedly anticipating whatever song would play.
When you say that you love me
Nan haneul wireul geotne
Yeongwoneul malhaejwo
Just one more time
Yeonjun stood to the side, just watching as Y/N danced—following the beat. He watched as a soft smile graced her lips.
When you say that you love me
Nan geu han madimyeon dwae
Byeonhaji anhneundago
Just one more time
Y/N faced him smiling and taking his hand.
Neon naege i segyeui jeonbu gata
Deo sege apeuge nal kkwak kkyeoana
“Oh, I’m joining now?”
“You said to follow my heart, right?” The girl smiled. “It’s with you, remember?”
Uriga nanun something
And you can’t make it nothing
Ijji anhajwosseumyeon hae
Neon nae
Yeonjun tried to stop his smile—he really did—but he couldn’t. Not when the girl spun in his arms and pressed her back against his chest. Not when he finally felt the warmth he’s been missing for weeks. Not when she’s back in his arms.
Haruharu
Yeoreum gaeoul
His hands fell to her hips as they swayed to the soft beat. He leaned down to press his lips on her ear.
“What are you doing?”
Neon mollado
Y/N smiled, taking his wrists and swaying faster—in sync with the music as the pace of the beats went quicker and quicker.
“Following my heart.”
You got the best of me
She turned suddenly, feet following the complicated choreography of the song. She laughed she saw Yeonjun dancing alongside her.
You got the best of me
Yeonjun laughed with her, moves getting faster and faster as they went.
So please just don’t leave me
He reached out to grab her waist, pulling her flush to him with a smile.
You got the best of me
The girl reached up to run her hands through his hair before she leaned up to kiss his lips. Yeonjun stood frozen, hands limply clutching her waist as his eyes widened in surprise. Then he smiled, closing his eyes and deepening the kiss. Y/N pulled away, smiling as Yeonjun slowly opened his eyes.
“Why are you blushing?” She said, giggling while Yeonjun covered his reddening face.
“Shut up.” Yeonjun mumbled, whining as Y/N pried his hands off of his face and replaced it with hers—cupping his cheeks with a soft grin.
“What are the odds of getting the boys back together?” Y/N asked.
“This is seriously happening?” Yeonjun asked, furrowing his eyebrows. “We’re getting the team back together?”
““Well, dancing brings out the best in me, You bring out the best in me. That’s all I know.” Y/N shrugged. “and if it’s something important to me and you, and the boys, then that’s something worth continuing, isn’t it?”
“What about your plan?” Yeonjun asked, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. “This isn’t in your plan.”
“Not if it takes me away from you,” Y/N only smiled, leaning her forehead on his. “What about you—America—“
“It’ll be hard for them to take me away, I’m back in the spotlight.” Yeonjun mumbled. “I’m not letting them take me away from you again.”
Y/N laughed, looking into his eyes with a soft smile.
“I love you.” Y/N said suddenly, taking his hands. “So, don’t leave.”
Yeonjun smiled as Y/N took his hand, playing with his fingers as she looked down.
“Don’t go to Sooah, even if she’s prettier and a better dancer. Please trust me when I say that I’ll get everything back together.” She looked back up. “I love you.”
Yeonjun only smiled, cupping her face and leaning back down to crash his lips on hers once more. Y/N kissed back, wrapping her arms around his neck once more as she smiled against his lips. Yeonjun pulled away, smiling at her.
“I love you, too.”
Y/N smiled, closing her eyes as he kissed her once more.
So please just don’t leave me
You got the best of me

“By the early 1920s, the older generation of physicians who insisted that athletics would damage women's fragile bodies had largely been discredited. Nonetheless, concern that women's participation in vigorous exercise programs, competitive sports, and other forms of strenuous physical activity would undermine "natural" gender differences lingered through the rest of the decade. After all, sport had developed in the nineteenth century as a male preserve, a domain in which men expressed and cultivated masculinity through athletic competition.
Women's assumption of such "manly" activities therefore continued to unnerve many contemporaries who questioned the social consequences of their unprecedented exploits. How could a woman who "on the stroke of six [o'clock] . . . jumps out of bed, throws herself on her bicycle and races like a newspaper boy out to the tennis court or the gymnasium, and then arrives at the office at nine, completely out of breath" possibly retain her femininity, wondered some observers. Could women who participated in "mannish" activities such as soccer and boxing be truly womanly outside the sports arena?
And was it not possible that unrestrained physical activity might really, as some critics suggested, cause young women to "shake off a part of their sex and acquire a considerable part of the robust and rough assurance of a masculine being?" For those who harbored such concerns, the media's endless fascination with extraordinary female physical feats did little to alleviate their worries. Throughout the postwar decade, newspapers and magazines reveled in stories about women, both from Denmark and abroad, who broke gender conventions as soccer players, wrestlers, hammer throwers, long distance runners, motorcycle drivers, sharpshooters, and parachute jumpers.
Photographs of female firefighters, bus drivers, ditchdiggers, and construction workers only added to this carnivalesque display of female modernity that simultaneously announced the arrival of a new type of physically active woman and the collapse of distinct male and female preserves. Equally popular were stories of female accomplishments that seemed to throw into question men's physical supremacy. When, for example, the young Danish-American swimmer Harriet Mille Carson managed to cross the English Channel in record time in 1926, while "the first-class male swimmer" against whom she competed had to "give up due to wind and waves," she did so under intense media coverage.
And the following year, when the seventeen-year-old Edith Jensen became the first person ever to cross the Sound between Denmark and Sweden, only one day after a male swimmer had failed to reach that goal, the press once again touted young women's stunning physical strength and endurance. While most ordinary Danes probably found such spectacular female feats more exciting and entertaining than threatening, those who participated in the public debate were generally troubled by such activities. In their minds, these were examples of the worst aspects of women's physical activities—vulgar in their competitiveness, excessive in their aim, unfeminine in their vigor, and immodest in their public display.
Instead of promoting stronger, healthier female bodies, such activities, they feared, would ultimately undermine women's physical well-being and, rather than making them more beautiful, might make women mannish and muscular. It is therefore hardly surprising that many contemporaries felt that some guidance was called for lest young women slip entirely out of control and lose themselves in unhealthy competition and damaging excesses. Even advocates of female exercise were often uncomfortable with young women's enthusiasm for strength, speed, and record-breaking.
While interested in promoting physical freedom and athletic enjoyment for women, the vast majority of them were also committed to preserving gender difference, and they saw competitive strife as an unfortunate and eccentric American phenomenon that threatened to ruin not only "the sound Danish tradition of women's exercise" but also women's physical health and femininity. In response to charges of masculinization and out of concern about women's health and well-being, they therefore began to articulate a philosophy of female athleticism that defined proper physical activities for women as fundamentally different from those of men.
Women, they argued, should carefully choose only those forms of activity that suited their constitution. Exercise should not exert, and it should never "develop a woman's body so that she becomes too muscular." Besides, women should not engage in competitive sports. Not only might frenzied competition lead a woman to loose her composure and "aesthetic appearance," but it also brought out aggressiveness and other "most unfortunate character traits in a woman." Rather than athletic prowess and bodily strength, the development of soft and harmonious feminine bodies ought to be the objective, and women should therefore confine themselves to the "feminine" category of pleasurable exercise and physical fitness, leaving "masculine" sports to men.
Female physical educators, including exercise instructors, gymnastics teachers, and physical culture specialists, were particularly adamant in this stance. By the 1920s, these women had for decades been striving to develop specifically female exercise programs. Criticizing nineteenth century traditions of gymnastics and physical exercise for their masculine bias, their emphasis on disciplining and strengthening the body, and their stiff, militaristic bent, they insisted on the importance of acknowledging gender difference and cultivating exercise systems for women that were not a "blind imitation" of men's. Instead of strenuous drills and apparatus-based gymnastics that developed muscular strength, they encouraged light floor exercises, rhythmic movement, and figure training that called forth physical expressions of women's feminine nature.
According to its advocates, specifically feminine exercise programs had numerous advantages. First, they took place in gender-segregated spaces and made it possible for women to exercise under the guidance of female instructors without exposing themselves to the lewd gaze of male spectators. Second, in contrast to competitive sports and masculine styles of gymnastics, which were deemed "too brutal and therefore [threatened] to ruin the harmony of the female physique," the new styles of exercise offered physical activities that were designed to preserve and enhance women's "figure and feminine grace" and make them "supple, graceful and rounded in form and movements."
Typically described as relaxing yet invigorating, such exercises allowed women a measure of organized physical expression without violating their femininity. Third, and perhaps most importantly, these forms of physical activity did not seek to "turn women into athletes" or encourage them to become "unappealingly emancipated," but allowed each woman to develop her body to its fullest aesthetic potential. A harmonious, fit female body, radiating health and "natural" feminine beauty, was the inevitable result of such proper exercise.
Considering their emphasis on style over strength, physical attractiveness over athletic accomplishment, and gender segregation over mixedsex companionship, it is not surprising that advocates of the new exercise systems met with widespread support even among many former critics of women's physical activities. By advocating new forms of moderate physical exercise that promoted health and fitness along with feminine beauty, female physical educators had clearly managed to stake out a culturally legitimate position. Edged between modern sports and conventional physical restraint, they proposed a compromise that merged athletic enjoyment with activities suitable for female bodies and psyches.
While physicians, physical educators, and other interested parties debated these issues, young women continued to pursue a variety of physical activities. Some paid scant attention to the words of authorities, delighting in many of those exact activities that most horrified contemporaries. Amanda Christensen, for one, was never deterred from her love of competitive bicycle racing. "I knew, of course, that girls were not supposed to do that," she conceded, "but that never stopped me. Why should people tell me what I could do?"
Most young women were much less assertive and self-confident. While they were enthusiastic about sport and physical exercise, they were also concerned about how their participation in different activities might be perceived. As one young woman wrote to an advice columnist, "I want to have fun, but I am not sure whether it is appropriate for young girls to play hockey." Despite the desire to have fun and take part in what were perceived as "modern" activities, she and many other young women did not want to violate too many cultural norms, and they were unwilling to risk too much social ostracism.
Besides, most young women were as concerned about their femininity as were other contemporaries, and despite their interest in physical exercise they did not want to risk appearing "mannish" and unattractive. Not surprisingly, many girls and young women therefore responded positively to the new forms of exercise advocated by female physical educators. From the early 1920s, both devoted sports enthusiasts and women who had never before participated in organized physical activities flocked to exercise classes. According to Jenny Okkels, "We all took exercise classes."
Regitze Nielsen agreed. "Any young girl took exercise classes back then," she recalled, adding with obvious delight that "it was so much fun, such camaraderie." Part of the appeal of exercise classes for young women lay in the very qualities stressed by advocates of physical exercise. Clearly, the cultural respectability of such activities enabled even cautious young women to engage in various forms of female physicality without exposing themselves to charges of improper behavior. Within a wholesome atmosphere, apart from men and under the supervision of female instructors, they found welcome opportunities for pleasurable and fun-filled physical activity.
Moreover, the particular forms of exercise promoted by female physical educators in the postwar decade offered young women a chance to reshape their bodies in ways that simultaneously set them apart from older generations of women and fit their perception of what constituted a "modern" physical style. Key components of this coveted style included physical self-confidence, a graceful feminine body language, and a certain "natural" ease—all characteristics that female exercise instructors strove to teach their students.
Aja Packness, who participated in exercise classes during her youth in the 1910s, recalled, for example, how she and her classmates learned to "swing and sway and twirl so we looked like butterflies. We learned rhythm, graceful poses, and arm movements, but first and foremost we learned to behave freely and unconstrained. I am to this very day grateful to Miss Schjellerup [the instructor] because she taught us to walk freely across a dance floor where many people were watching us. And we learned to sit properly on a chair—not shyly out on the edge."
Because many physical educators adhered to the philosophy that "each individual [is] endowed by nature with a personal rhythm," exercise classes also encouraged the pursuit of individuality and personal expression, both factors young women associated with female modernity. In addition to these appealing qualities, the enthusiasm that many young women displayed for the exercise classes sprang from the legitimacy they seemed to grant to sensual pleasure and the pursuit of physical beauty, an undertaking that nineteenth-century moralists had often criticized as evidence of female vanity and self-absorption.
Physical educators idealized the healthy, harmonious, physically fit female body, and they were never sparing in their praise of "the beautiful sight of many young, slender female bodies engaged in rhythmic exercise." Many of them actively encouraged women to pay attention to their appearances and to take pride in their efforts to attain "cheerful, agile and healthy" bodies. Of course, the praise bestowed on those who strove to be physically fit entailed an implicit critique of those who failed to do so, but even as they enforced a new set of standards for what constituted an attractive appearance, advocates of women's exercise and physical culture nevertheless succeeded in claiming for women the right to take new kinds of pleasure and pride in their bodies.
In the course of the 1920s, then, the tension between young women eager to explore new forms of physical activity and older contemporaries concerned about the consequences of unrestrained female physicality gradually faded as physical educators managed to develop new forms of female exercise that were sufficiently feminine to deflect charges of improper masculinization and, at the same time, sufficiently exciting and physically gratifying to attract large numbers of young women. Although some female athletes continued to excel in competitive sports and to upstage men in spectacular feats of performance, the fact that the majority of young women turned their energy toward feminine exercise seemed to quell much of the opposition that initially surrounded women's forays into the sporting world.”

10 YEARS AGO, SUPER JUNIOR’S 'SORRY, SORRY' CHANGED K-POP FOREVER
THE SONG NOT ONLY CATAPULTED SUPER JUNIOR TO STARDOM, BUT IT REVOLUTIONIZED K-POP — AND EVERYONE FROM SEVENTEEN TO NCT HAVE COVERED IT
Tumblr media
On any given day, fans of K-pop groups rally on Twitter to get their faves noticed. Whether that’s trending hashtags to get them onto social media charts or to win actual awards, you can’t escape their passionate presence on your timeline. And though social media has always been an integral part of K-pop fandom, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that K-pop stan Twitter became a force to be reckoned with. K-pop groups regularly dominate Billboard’s social chart, and now even brands stan Loona. But in order to get to that place in the digital space, a lot of ground had to be broken, and it can be traced back to exactly 10 years ago.
In terms of Hallyu (Korean pop culture) history, 2009 was an iconic year. Some would even argue it was a more impactful era in terms of K-pop reaching audiences outside of Korea than 2012’s “Gangnam Style.” According to an unpublished survey collected by Korea Creative Content Agency USA in 2014, the majority of K-pop fans in the States (39.5 percent) started consuming K-pop earlier than 2009, as opposed to 26.8 percent between 2012 and 2013. PSY might have turned himself into a viral phenomenon, but 2009 was a launch pad for a lot of what K-pop is today.
The year also marked a pivotal time in the internet age, which helped the globalization of Korean music. By 2009, YouTube and social media platforms had already started making K-pop content like music videos and choreography videos more accessible to consumers. This accelerated the spread of information — and dance crazes — to the world. One of the first male acts to set off a dance craze on social media was veteran K-pop group Super Junior with their 2009 mega hit “Sorry, Sorry.”
Released first as a digital single and soon followed by an album of the same name and the music video on March 12, "Sorry, Sorry" not only catapulted Super Junior to Hallyu stardom, but it revolutionized K-pop itself.
youtube
Right from the start, the song says what it’s all about: dance. Packed with a repetitive chorus, chant-like hooks, and auto-tuned vocals, “Sorry, Sorry” utilized the pop formula of the day to perfection and delivered an earworm. The album debuted at No. 1 on one of South Korea’s most important music charts, and the song topped the charts too. It also reached No. 1 in other countries like Taiwan and Thailand, and it landed in the Top 10 in the Philippines. In Taiwan, “Sorry, Sorry” spent 36 consecutive weeks at No. 1. For a lot of older K-pop fans, "Sorry, Sorry" was an entry point, thanks to the countless flash mobs — a very 2009 trend — and dance covers uploaded online from Malaysia to Indonesia to even a prison in the Philippines.
Sorry, Sorry signaled Super Junior’s coming of age, not only sound-wise, but conceptually. Their sleeker, more sophisticated neutral color palette showed a more mature side to the SM Entertainment group, who made their debut in 2005. They shifted away from the visual kei-inspired concept of previous songs like “Don’t Don” and “U” — a major trend at the time — and instead embraced an aesthetic that would inspire the next decade of K-pop. The focus on the choreography highlighted Super Junior’s strengths in numbers, which helped popularize the idea of larger-sized male groups (think ZE:A, SEVENTEEN, and The Boyz). Not to mention, the virality of a point dance had been something representative of girl groups at the time, but after “Sorry, Sorry,” male groups like SHINee (“Ring Ding Dong”) and 2PM (“Again and Again”) followed suit.
And Super Junior were pioneers in other ways as well. They were the first K-pop group to feature a Chinese national in its ranks, and though he constantly ran into setbacks for being a foreigner and eventually left the group, Hankyung (who now goes by his Chinese name Han Geng) opened doors for all non-Koreans in the idol industry today.
Tumblr media
ailblazers in the global music industry by collaborating with Latinx artists Leslie Grace and Play-N-Skillz on the English-Spanish-Korean banger “Lo Siento” — and with Reik on “Otra Vez” — becoming the first Korean act to enter Latin Billboard charts twice.
Due to mandatory military enlistments, departures, and other issues, Super Junior’s lineup has been changing for the better part of a decade. The act’s current active members are Leeteuk (real name Park Jeong-su), Kim Heechul, Yesung (Kim Jong-woon), Shindong (Shin Dong-hee), Eunhyuk (Lee Hyuk-jae), Lee Donghae, Choi Siwon, and Kim Ryeowook. Once Cho Kyuhyun wraps up his service in May, Super Junior will have a fixed lineup active for the first time in 10 years.
Nowadays, "Sorry, Sorry" is almost like a rite of passage for newer groups, with everyone from EXO to SEVENTEEN to NCT, and even BTS, GFRIEND, and TWICE — together with Leeteuk, who's become a favorite on Korean variety shows — covering it. The song is also a frequent pick on competition shows like Produce 101, where all but two members of the winning “Sorry, Sorry” team ended up debuting in the popular temporary group Wanna One.
youtube
To celebrate 10 years of Sorry, Sorry and its lasting impact on K-pop today, let’s take a look at some of the standout tracks that made that album so iconic.
"Sorry, Sorry"
The song that started it all. Whether it’s the catchy melody, the ddan-ddan-ddans, or the continued use of "shawty" and "sorry," good luck getting "Sorry, Sorry" out of your head. And when you pair it with an equally memorable “point dance” of rubbing your hands in an apologetic manner, it’s no surprise that every K-pop stan on YouTube — and in the idol industry — has this song and its choreography on lock.
Produced by SM Entertainment’s in-house producer Yoo Young-jin (Red Velvet’s “Bad Boy,” NCT U’s “Boss”), Super Junior changed up their sound for this single. After exploring alternative rock, they went for an R&B and funk-infused dance track, a trait that would come to characterize the group for years.
"It’s You"
youtube
Following up “Sorry, Sorry” with something just as good must’ve been difficult or even impossible to fathom, but Super Junior pulled through. Two months after “Sorry, Sorry,” the group dropped the album’s second single “It’s You.” Written and produced by E-Tribe (Girls’ Generation’s “Gee,” Loona’s “love4eva”), “It’s You” is a more mellow approach for a dance and contemporary R&B song than “Sorry, Sorry.” It features a clapping beat, a haunting repetition of the phrase “it’s you” in Korean, and a balanced harmony of the members’ voices. The track also marked an important era in Super Junior history, since it was the last single to feature all 13 members of the core group in a music video (Hankyung left the group by the end of the year and Kibum went on a permanent hiatus). Upon release, “It’s You” reached No. 1 on South Korea’s then most popular social media platform, Cyworld.
"It’s You" has been revamped recently and the group — whose members are all well into their 30s — now perform it at their concerts with new lace blindfolds, which they take off mid-chorus and use as a prop. And though it still sounds distinctly 2009, the song has aged beautifully.
"Why I Like You"
youtube
There’s always that one song on an album that fans wish was a promotional single but unfortunately isn’t. On Sorry, Sorry said track is “Why I Like You.” Though performed as a b-side together with “Sorry, Sorry” on music shows, it deserved way more attention. Super Junior are the kings of, among many things, the dance-ballad, and “Why I Like You” is their crown jewel within that genre.
"Monster"
youtube
Before EDM took over, laser synths on a pop-R&B hybrid were everything in K-pop. And “Monster,” with its dark, Timbaland-like moody production, perfectly encapsulated the sound of an era. It’s a major throwback sonically, but “Monster” is undoubtedly an underrated deep cut.
"Heartquake (feat. TVXQ!’s U-know Yunho & Micky Yoochun)"
One of the group’s many sub-units is Super Junior-K.R.Y., which stands for Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung, who are the group’s main vocalists. On Sorry, Sorry, the trio were given their own song that featured their SM labelmates U-know Yunho and Micky Yoochun, then both part of TVXQ! "Heartquake" is a mid-tempo heartbreak ballad with a hip-hop influence thanks to U-know Yunho and Micky Yoochun self-written rap verses.

INCOMING MESSAGE …
FULL NAME: yeon eojin ALIAS: iris DATE OF BIRTH: 2119/12/19 ALIGNMENT: pro-android OCCUPATION: employee at old but gold retro shop AFFILIATION: hacker for the matrix ACCOMMODATION: agata suites, ginza FACECLAIM: oh sehun
ACCESSING: BACKGROUND …
yeon eojin was born in seoul, south korea, in a small household: it was only him, his mother and older brother. he has never met his father, the man left his wife when she was still pregnant with their second child. his absence made things very difficult for mrs. yeon, once the man was the main source of income for their family — and now, she’d have to make up for that, with two young children to take care of all by herself. she didn’t stay home taking care of her newborn as much as she should, as much as recommended by the doctors, because she had to find a job to bring food to her little boys. she worked extra hours, worked on weekends and on holidays, nonstop, just to make sure little eunsoo and little eojin had full bellies — even if that meant her own health was in risk. she’d skip meals just so the two of them could eat as much as they wanted. but she’s a mother, and mothers always put their kids before their own needs. but she managed to raise them as healthy little boys, despite her own well being compromised by it.
though eventually, eunsoo ( the oldest of the two brothers ) got himself a job pretty early just so he could make things a bit easier for their mother. things did get a bit better for them in that time, but that meant little eojin would stay home all by himself for the most part of the day. and as any pre-teen would, he’d spend most of his time in front of the family’s computer. he played games, made friends online, watched funny videos and learned new things. eojin was a good student in school, he was really good with numbers and calculations, but on his computer, he’d do more than that. at first, he got really into puzzle games, those you’d need hours to solve, and eventually, he got into coding. html was something he’s never heard of before and it didn’t take long for him to learn all about it, when he was still only twelve. it’s when he turns fourteen that he finds out about programming, and starts learning about it — being online for so long, he met enough people to help him understand and apply all that knowledge.
eojin found his true passion in programming and coding, and as he got better and better at it, he also started to become braver. bolder. greedier. he was seventeen years old when he started hacking into people accounts — he started small, accessing his brother’s social media and his mother’s bank account just as practice, before he could go further: hacking into other people’s social media as well as bank accounts, but never doing anything too bad that could maybe get him in jail. until he had the opportunity of his life.
he managd to hack into south korea’s prime minister’s phone, go through his contacts and text messages, as well as see stuff that he wished he had never seen ( the old man was a disgusting freak ), and the content of some of the minister’s text messages… it was too good to let it pass. eojin saved all and every information he could get from the man, the undeniable proof of a major corruption scheme right in his hands. he couldn’t let those people get away with public money, not when the country was breaking down with poverty and starvation after past conflicts. he leaks the text messages. he sends it to the country’s biggest newspaper, which spread the news on the same week as they receive the content of the text messages, and it becomes a great scandal.
eojin’s identity remained anonymous, and instead of focusing on the scheme made by the minister, the government and its supporters did their best to turn the citizens’ attention to the hacker who leaked the information. but eojin was careful enough, and they never found out who he truly is — the hacker remained a mystery.
but not for the m̦̗̜̟͙̮̳̘̺̭̒̀͑̆̂̊͘̕͠͠á̧̛̤͍͉͖͔̗͉͋̋̈̄̏̐͂͜͝ͅt̨̡̨̩̩̖̳̣̘͆̂̽̓̅͗̉͛͒̕͜r͙̮̻̖̲̯̤̫̥̂̎͊̓̾̍̐̚̕͝ͅĭ̡̧̛̩̲͕̲̰̠̹͆̂̒̾͆̇̐̅ͅx̨̳͔̬͖̦͎̪̖̩̽̒̔̀̋̓͌̓̋̇.̢̛̯͚̣͎͈̠̟̩̈̒̀̓͆̊̋̕͝ͅ
he was eighteen years old when they reached out to him, offering an opportunity that he could never refuse: to be a part of their organization. eojin didn’t even know what they did, or how much power and influence the matrix had, but he had heard enough about them to know he had to say yes to their offer. even if he had to move out of the country — which to be quite honest, wasn’t a bad idea after what he did to the government. and of course, moving to japan didn’t sound bad at all. but it felt bad to leave his family like that… not after everything they had done to him.
he gave them the excuse that he was going to japan to study, that he had the chance to study in the shujin university, which was a reference in the whole continent. that way, mrs. yeon and eunsoo couldn’t oppose to his departure. still, there was a heavy feeling on eojin’s conscience. he promised he’d send them money monthly, enough to give them a better life than they had in the past.
when he got to japan, he did apply to the shujin university to study computer programming. he passed the application exam and scored enough to receive a scholarship that covered a hundred percent of his tuition fee. and he also applied for a small job at a retro game shop known as old but gold — after all, his love for games never ceased, in fact, it became one of his addictions. there was no one better than yeon eojin to work at the place. the payment was enough to give eojin a comfortable life, but still wasn’t enough for him to send money to his mother and that was when he started streaming his gaming adventures — he was known for his tetris battle royale live streams. the donations he received from his viewers were finally enough for him to help his family, he could finally send them money and give them a better life.
but of course everything was too good to be true, something had to ruin the cycle of good things happening in eojin’s life.
an accident was all it took to turn his world around.
he doesn’t remember exactly how it happened, all he can remember is waking up in the hospital — the white surroundings almost blinded him, he could remember it like was just yesterday. and despite being confused, completely disoriented, he still managed to understand every single word the nurse told him. the tears ran down his cheeks as he listened, but it only got worse when they told him about the surgery: the accident left him with dozens of broken bones, but the situation of his right leg was way more severe than they had imagined. he had to go through surgery, but for some reason ( one that was no revealed to eojin ) there were no doctors available in the moment — which resulted in a surgery done entirely by androids, under the permission of the nurse that spoke to him.
“it was the best option! if we kept the leg, you’d have to live with constant pain for the rest of your life.”
that man. in eojin’s head, it was thanks to that man that he lost his leg. he told the androids what to do when he could have waited for a surgeon to be available. when he could have waited and asked for eojin’s consent.
also, why the fuck were there no doctors available! what type of hospital didn’t have extra doctors waiting for an emergency? his emergency. his leg could still be there. they were asking to be sued, and that was what eojin did — he sued the hospital for 1) not having extra human doctors to do his surgery, 2) allowing a group of androids do surgery without the proper supervision, 3) amputating one of his limbs without his consent. they paid him a few millions. but suing the hospital didn’t mean he would get his recovery in another hospital.
hell no.
and to make things even worse than before, the nurse that told the androids to amputate his leg was the one designated to take care of him, to help him recover — not only in the hospital but also when he was released to go back home. oh, joy.
with the money he received from the hospital he bought himself the best and most organic-looking prosthetic leg in the market, as well as some others that looked cooler and more robotic — and he would only wear them when going outside, at home he relies on his crutches. and despite the promises that his life would be better and painless after the amputation, eojin still felt pain. a lot of pain. something called ghost pain.
and an extra pain: a nurse he detested. well, at least for now.
ACCESSING: PERSONALITY …
POSITIVE TRAITS: playful, loyal, protective NEGATIVE TRAITS: sarcastic, indifferent, insistent
yeon eojin is often described as being either a big dork or a big brat, and neither of those are wrong. he can be both things, depending on how many cans of grape fanta he has drank — he is addicted. he loves his job at the games shop and also love his job at the matrix, both bring him the two things he loves the most in his life: programming and games. he couldn’t be happier doing anything else. regarding his alignment, he’d say he’s pro-android, even though he doesn’t trust them fully — but that doesn’t stop him from helping them from time to time. in fact, his apartment has become reference for androids that need help blending in with humans ( he’s not a hardware guy, but he will take your identification collar off if you ask nicely ). when it comes to people, he doesn’t care much about them and doesn’t really have a filter when talking to them, he will say whatever is on his mind without worrying about how it’ll affect the people around him. he’s kinda dense. he’s really good with numbers so if you need help with them, he’s your guy. loves tetris and puzzle games way too much, you’ll definitely see him trying to solve random puzzles and riddles when he has nothing else to do. he’s very awkward when it comes to romance, he’ll be very stiff and nervous if he has feelings for someone. he likes sweets way too much. also a big pervert.
… END OF MESSAGE.
