Hollywood, cette monstrueuse machine à histoires, a donné le jour à une quantité considérable de robots en tous genres mais c’est en 1956, dans le long métrage “La Planète Interdite“, que l’un d’entre eux va véritablement marquer l’esprit du public au point devenir une icône de la Science Fiction.

Pour ce deuxième portrait, laissez-moi vous présenter : ROBBY le robot

ROBBY le robot (mentionné tel quel au générique)

XXIII ème siècle, le professeur Edward Morbius et sa fille Altaira, seuls survivants de l’équipage du vaisseau d’exploration “le Bellérophon” décimé par une mystérieuse créature peu après leur arrivée sur la planète Altaïr IV, sont accompagnés d’un robot prénommé ROBBY. ROBBY est un robot serviteur conçu par le professeur Morbius à l’aide des connaissances recueillis dans les vestiges de la technologie Krell (premier peuple à avoir foulé le sol d’Altaïr IV et à en avoir complètement et inexplicablement disparu).

Techniquement

ROBBY est un robot qui est totalement au service du professeur Morbius et ne fait preuve d’aucune personnalité ou charisme véritable sinon que de respecter les 3 lois de la robotique auxquelles il est assujetti. Toutefois, sa conception étant basée sur les connaissances de la race extra-terrestre Krell, il bénéficie de nombreuses capacités tel quel des lasers, un revêtement indestructible, une force herculéenne et, surtout, un “analyseur de molécules” qui lui permet de dupliquer n’importe quoi, même la nourriture, à volonté.

Les capacités de ROBBY impressionneront l’équipage, exclusivement masculin, du croiseur C-57D arrivé sur Altaïr IV afin de découvrir ce qu’il est advenu du Bellérophon dont ils étaient sans nouvelle depuis 19 ans.

Vision du XXIII ème siècle dans les années 50. On voyage plus vite que la lumière, tout a évolué… Sauf les femmes. 😀

Pour la petite anecdote, le très phallocrate commandant Adams du C-57D est interprété par l’excellent Leslie Nielsen (1926-2010) qui joue ici son second rôle principal de long métrage, lequel lancera littéralement sa carrière d’acteur.

Heureusement que les temps ont changé et que l’on ne reproche plus aux femmes leur façon de s’habiller ! Ouf ! 😀

Artistiquement

ROBBY a été imaginé par Robert Kinoshita (1914-2014). Il semblerait que le design final ait été décidé à partir d’une figurine sur laquelle R.K travaillait, un peu en désespoir de cause, alors qu’il n’aboutissait à rien après une quantité de croquis… C’est à ce moment que le directeur artistique est entrée dans son bureau, a vu la figurine et s’est écrié : “C’est quoi ça ?! Je le prends !” pour ensuite foncer dans le bureau du producteur. ROBBY était né !

Un des “blue print” finaux du robot

Le costume de ROBBY mesure environ 2.10 m, est composé essentiellement de plastique et d’aluminium et pèse près de 45kg. C’est une description qui ferait à peine lever le sourcil d’un “cosplayer” mais ce qu’il faut savoir, c’est qu’en 1956, le modelage du plastique n’était pas aussi simple qu’aujourd’hui et qu’il a fallu trouver un système pour intégrer une batterie au costume afin d’activer tous les éléments mobiles de celui-ci et que l’acteur Frankie Darro (1917-1976), puisse se déplacer sans la gène d’un câble. Cette petite prouesse technique coûtera la coquette somme de 125 000$ de l’époque, ce qui peut représenter un peu plus de 1M $ aujourd’hui.

On apprécie la sur-dramatisation de l’affiche. 😀

Même chose ici avec un robot enragé… Qui n’est pas aussi terrifiant en réalité. 🙂

Par la puissance du scénario !!!

Après le succès surprise du robot qui “volera” carrément la vedette dans La Planète Interdite, on retrouvera ROBBY, à la demande insistante du public, dans un nouveau long métrage de science fiction, cette fois sur Terre et au XX ème siècle, “The Invisible Boy“. Dans ce film le robot est retrouvé en pièces détachées, prenant la poussière avec pour seule explication de sa présence qu’il a, tout simplement, été ramené du XXIII ème siècle mais qu’on ne sait pas comment le réparer. Ce second film ne remportera pas le succès escompté et ce sera la fin de la courte carrière de notre robot. Toutefois, l’impression qu’il laisse sur le public est tellement forte qu’il entrera dans le panthéon des icônes du cinéma fantastique et fera de très nombreuses apparitions en tant que “guest star” ou simple caméo.

Mes images ont été faites sur du papier kraft Hahnemüehle et papier aquarelle 200gr Fabriano grain fin avec les feutres tombow fudenosuke, les pentel brush sign pen et ma palette d’aquarelle Sakura Koi.

3 días en Granada (España)

Ciao ragazzi e bentornati nel mio blog!

Il mio ultimo viaggio ha avuto luogo nel sud della Spagna, in uno dei cuori di quella splendida terra che è l’Andalucía: Granada.

Sento ancora i canti gitani riecheggiare nella mia mente...

Il nome della città ha un legame imprescindibile con la pianta del melograno, nota anche come punica granatum, originaria, come si può evincere dal nome latino, della città di Cartagine (Punica), situata in Tunisia. Il simbolo della città è, infatti, proprio il frutto, che in spagnolo prende, così, il nome di granada.

La città è molto piccola e visitabile in pochi giorni; la posizione nell’entroterra la rende calda l’estate, con temperature che di giorno possono superare facilmente i 30° e che di sera possono scendere repentinamente di 13°-15° per via della vicinanza alla Sierra Nevada, il complesso montuoso che abbraccia la città a sud-est, impedendo al mare di addolcire il clima dopo il tramonto del sole.

DÍA #1

Il mio primo giorno inizia proprio nel pieno centro della città, in Calle Gran Vía Colón, che prende il nome dal noto navigatore conosciuto in Italia come Cristoforo Colombo (Cristóbal Colón, per gli spagnoli). Emozionata ed elettrizzata mi dirigo immediatamente verso la tanto attesa Catedral de Granada o Catedral de la Encarnación, così chiamata perché fu proprio durante el día de la Encarnación, il 25 Marzo, che iniziarono i suoi lavori.

La Cattedrale fu costruita per volere della regina Isabella (Isabel la Católica) a partire dall’anno 1505 - anno in cui Granada era già tornata ad essere sotto il dominio degli spagnoli, che l’avevano riconquistata nel 1492 - e fu progettata dall’architetto Enrique Egas e, successivamente, da Diego Siloé. È proprio per questo motivo che si può notare come il complesso unisca con semplicità più stili, alternando il rinascimentale al gotico.

A fianco all’edificio, inoltre, è ubicata la Capilla Real (al cui interno, ahimé, non è possibile scattare foto), la quale ospita i resti dei Reyes Católicos: Isabel I de Castilla e Fernando II de Aragón. Quest’ultimo lasciò, infatti, scritto nel suo testamento:

Y, por ende, queremos que los huesos nuestros estén allí para siempre, donde también han de estar sepultados los de la dicha serenísima señora para que, juntamente, loen y bendigan su santo nombre.

Continuando nei pressi dell’edificio si accede anche al Palacio de la Madraza, la prima università della città, inaugurata nell’anno 1349 dall’allora re nazarí Yusuf I de Granada. L’antica università si sviluppa su due piani, al piano terra vi è collocata la sala di preghiera (oratorio musulmán);

sulle cui pareti è ben leggibile la dicitura: لا غالب إلا الله, ovvero: “Non v’è altro vincitore al di fuori di Allah” (vedi foto);

mentre al piano superiore, vi è il salón de Caballeros XXIV, la sala in cui avvenivano le riunioni dei regidores (chi era al governo) della città.

Uscendo dal complesso proseguo su Calle Gran Vía Colón sino a Plaza Isabel la Católica, in cui si erge la statua, realizzata nel 1892, che vede la regina nell’atto di autorizzare Cristoforo Colombo ad intraprendere il suo viaggio nelle Indie.

La via che incrocia la piazza si chiama Calle Reyes Católicos

e conduce direttamente all’edificio che durante il regno dei Nasridi venne utilizzato come locanda per commercianti: il Corral del Carbón. La struttura venne anche impiegata come magazzino e, solo in seguito, adibita a teatro; non a caso, nel periodo del Barocco, questa tipologia di palazzo - (inizialmente casa privata) sviluppata su due o tre livelli, costituiti da un patio centrale e da una serie di balconi - divenne scenario per numerose rappresentazioni private e non, che vedevano il pubblico occupare lo spazio centrale del patio e gli attori muoversi lungo i piani dei balconi e al pianterreno, in un palco posizionato dinanzi agli stessi spettatori.

Oggi l’edificio è sede della Delegazione Provinciale della Cultura Andalusa ed al centro del suo cortile interno vi è la fontana visibile nella foto qui sotto.

A questo punto, decido di tornare su Calle Reyes Católicos passando per la strada da cui provengo, Calle Puente del Carbón, ed attraverso la strada per proseguire, così, su Calle López Rubio, che mi si apre proprio davanti. La strada mi conduce all’Alcaicería, un piccolo barrio della città suddiviso in numerose stradine e pieno di negozi e bancarelle tipici.

Un tempo questo era il luogo dedicato alla fabbricazione e alla vendita di sete preziose tipiche orientali e di altre merci di valore; in arabo prendeva il cosiddetto nome di sūq e rappresentava uno dei poli più attivi della città.

Uscendo dalle stradine del mercato faccio capolino su Plaza de Bib-Rambla, al cui centro si staglia la fuente de los Gigantes con la statua di Neptuno che si erge sulla sua sommità (vedi foto);

la piazza, durante il regno musulmano, è sempre stata luogo di feste, corridas de toros e tornei. Oggi, invece, è una delle piazze più frequentate dai suoi cittadini e soprattutto dai turisti; vi ha sede, infatti, un noto café della città, famoso per i suoi deliziosi churros accompagnati da una tazza di cioccolata calda (vedi foto).

Una pausa era proprio quello che ci voleva...

Dalla piazza è visibile Calle Principe, che mi conduce nuovamente su Calle Reyes Católicos; mi faccio, così, largo tra la folla che riempie il corso e scorgo dall’altra parte della strada il municipio della città, il cosiddetto Ayuntamiento.

Sulla cima dell’edificio è possibile scorgere la statua di un cavaliere nudo e bendato sugli occhi che cavalca un cavallo al trotto. L’opera, dall’aspetto inusuale, è chiamata El instante preciso ed è stata realizzata dall’artista spagnolo Guillermo Pérez Villalta; secondo l’autore rappresenta la felicità, il momento perfetto e l’istante fugace di cui solo si ha coscienza quando, ormai, l’attimo è passato e la famosa benda ci cade dagli occhi.

Sotto la statua prende posto, inoltre, un orologio, sulla cui cornice vi è incisa la frase: “Feliz quien ve sus horas en dorado presente”.

Ritorno su Calle Reyes Católicos e proseguo in direzione di Plaza Nueva, la piazza in cui confluiscono le vie più importanti della città, quali, appunto, Calle Reyes Católicos, Calle Elvira (la strada de las teterías, ovvero le sale da tè arabe) e la nota e antica Carrera del Darro.

Da quest’ultima è possibile ammirare l’imponente figura dell’Alhambra ergersi tra le fronde del bosco, ed ascoltare il mormorio del fiume Darro che scorre lungo il margine.

Lungo la strada si giunge a El Bañuelo, gli antichi e storici bagni arabi che si dice risalgano all’XI secolo, nonostante la presenza di voci discordanti che affermino risalga ad un periodo ancora precedente.

Nella foto un angolo del particolare soffitto che abbraccia le stanze dell’hammam, il complesso termale suddiviso in tre sale (una fredda, una tiepida ed una calda) dedicate, appunto, alle tre fasi di purificazione.

Fanno parte di questa tipologia di edificio tipico arabo anche altri palazzi che si possono incontrare per la città come la Casa Horno de Oro (vedi foto)

e la Casa de Zafra (vedi foto) in Calle Zafra.

Ma facciamo un salto a ritroso e torniamo a Calle Elvira, una delle vie più frequentate dagli abitanti di Granada, che ho menzionato poc’anzi.

La strada possiede uno dei nomi femminili più comuni nella Spagna del sud, Elvira (nome con cui tra l’altro veniva inizialmente chiamata la città di Granada), ed è tipica per las teterías che si trovano lungo il cammino. È il momento perfetto per un buon té arabo con latte...

A servirmi è un giovane marocchino che mi invita a provare una cachimba (comunemente nota in italiano con il nome di “narghilè”), tipico apparato per il fumo, nato in Egitto, e caratterizzato da una vasta gamma di sapori e profumi che lo rendono un piacevole intervallo. Mi lascio tentare.

Proseguendo lungo la via in direzione nord giungo all’antica Puerta de Elvira, nota per essere stata il più importante accesso alla città durante la dominazione islamica. Oggi rimane solo una parte del muro che faceva da recinzione alla città/fortezza unitamente al suo arco che, appunto, fungeva da ingresso.

Guardo l’orologio, è quasi l’ora di tapear... il mio stomaco borbotta e i bar della città si riempiono di gente...

Il verbo tapear significa letteralmente “tomar tapas”, ovvero prendere le tapas, che altro non sono che degli “assaggi” di pietanze tipiche spagnole, che vengono consumati dagli spagnoli solitamente nell’ora del nostro aperitivo italiano, e che spesso finiscono per saziare ed arrivare a coprire anche il pasto della cena.

Tapear è quasi uno stile di vita. Si esce e si fanno piccole tappe per diversi bar e locali del posto, ci si ferma per un bicchiere di buon vino o di sangría e si accompagna il tutto con questi piccoli assaggi. Tapear diventa, così, un atto sociale che unisce le persone, le fa incontrare e scambiare idee e soprattutto tante risate.

In foto un buon bicchiere di sangría (vedi foto), tipica bevanda spagnola a base di vino, frutta (nel mio caso già aromatizzata dalla produzione) e spezie.

La serata si prospetta piacevole e posso solo che lasciarmi guidare...

C’è una targa in Plaza de las Pasiegas che recita:

Dale limosna, mujer,

que no hay en la vida nada

como la pena de ser

ciego en Granada.

Il messaggio è chiaro, Granada è una di quelle città che restano nel cuore e che è un peccato non aver visto almeno una volta nella vita.

Sono emozionata, la direzione della mattinata è l’immensa Alhambra (vedi foto), l’antica sede del califfato della dinastia nasride, che crollò nel fatidico anno 1492; anno in cui, oltre all’epico evento della cosiddetta “scoperta dell’America”, terminò anche la Reconquista con la presa di Granada (toma de Granada) - l’ultima città della Spagna ad essere riconquistata dagli spagnoli - ed in cui avvenne anche la cacciata degli ebrei dal paese: solo los conversos (i convertiti al Cristianesimo) poterono rimanere ed inserirsi nella comunità.

La Alhambra si estende poderosa sulla collina della Sabika; circondata da mura è una vera e propria città murata (medina), proclamata patrimonio dall’UNESCO nel 1934.

Al suo interno vi si trovano numerosi edifici, all’epoca dedicati a varie attività; ed il meraviglioso e rigoglioso giardino del Generalife, anche questo dichiarato patrimonio culturale dell’umanità dall’UNESCO.

Al suo interno la Alhambra, come menzionato sopra, è suddivisa in numerosi edifici. Vi è la Alcazaba, la parte più antica dell’intero complesso, all’epoca utilizzata come punto di vedetta per avvistare il nemico. Costruita da Mohammed I, è composta da tre torri principali: la Torre Quebrada, la Torre del Homenaje e la Torre de la Vela.

Vi sono poi los Palacios Nazaries, suddivisi in:

Palacio de Comares, al cui interno vi è il noto Patio de los Arrayanes (vedi foto)

e attraverso cui si accede dalla sala del Mexuar (vedi foto), la sala dedicata alle udienze ed agli incontri amministrativi;

Nella zona esterna, invece, nel cosiddetto giardino del Partal, vi è una piccola ed indipendente struttura dedicata alla preghiera: l’Oratorio.

Palacio de los Leones (vedi foto), che venne costruito per ordine di Yusuf I e che costituiva le stanze private della famiglia reale,

al cui interno vi si trova il Patio de los Leones (vedi foto), la cui pianta rettangolare è incorniciata da ben 124 colonne di marmo bianco di Almería.

Dal patio vi è l’accesso alla sala de los Mocárabes; a quella de los Reyes, a quella de las Dos Hermanas; Ajimeces; al Mirador de Darax (vedi foto);

a quella de los Abencerrajes (vedi foto)

e del Harén (vedi foto).

Uscendo dal complesso in pieno stile arabo, che racchiude i palazzi e le sale sopramenzionate, si giunge ad un edificio di stile rinascimentale, il cui anno di costruzione risale al 1526: il Palacio de Carlos V.

L’edificio, nel Rinascimento, divenne dimora di Carlos V, allora imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero, il quale decise che l’edifico avrebbe dovuto seguire lo stile architettonico romano, che prevedeva una pianta circolare inscritta in un quadrato. Visto da fuori, infatti, risulta un quadrato perfetto.

Si avvicina l’ora del almuerzo, dove andare a mangiare?

Uscendo dall’Alhambra, il percorso è in discesa.

Voglio dirigermi verso Plaza de la Pescadería, non troppo distante dalla Catedral. Ordino una paella ed un buon calice di Rioja, un vino tipico spagnolo.

¡Buen provecho!

Nel pomeriggio decido di salire ed addentrarmi nel quartiere dell’Albayzín, che si trova più in collina rispetto al resto della città, esattamente di fronte alla collina che ospita la meravigliosa Alhambra. È proprio quest’ultima, infatti, che voglio arrivare ad ammirare da uno dei più importanti belvedere della città: il famoso Mirador de San Nicolás.

Da qui si vede tutta la città estendersi ai piedi della collina della Sabika, e l’imponente Sierra Nevada alle sue spalle. Gitanos di strada si esibiscono in veri e propri spettacoli di flamenco in cui la chitarra e la voce diventano le uniche vere protagoniste.

Ritorno tra le vie del quartiere e decido di perdermi. Via la mappa. Non vi è cosa più bella dello scoprire la città lasciandosi guidare dall’istinto.

DÍA #3

L’ultimo giorno granadino decido di tornare alla Puerta de Elvira e di attraversare Plaza del Triunfo, al cui centro si staglia la statua del volto di Cristóbal Colón (vedi foto), sul cui capo si erge la bandiera spagnola.

Lungo la strada, chiamata Avenida de la Constitución, si ha il piacere di incontrare numerose statue dedicate alle più note personalità che hanno lasciato traccia nella storia della Spagna, come, per esempio, il noto poeta Federico García Lorca (vedi foto), che si incontra seduto su una panchina con in mano il libro di una delle sue opere più famose: El Romancero gitano. Quest’opera è composta di diciotto romances (un tipo di composizione poetica articolata in metri) dedicati ognuno a diversi temi tipici della cultura gitana, che sempre ha interessato il poeta lungo il corso di tutta la sua vita.

Uno dei romances, dal titolo San Miguel, è dedicato, infatti, proprio alla città:

San Miguel

A Diego Buigas de Dalmau

Se ven desde las barandas,

por el monte, monte, monte,

mulos y sombras de mulos

cargados de girasoles.

Sus ojos en las umbrías

se empañan de inmensa noche.

En los recodos del aire

cruje la aurora salobre.

Un cielo de mulos blancos

cierra sus ojos de azogue

dando a la quieta penumbra

un final de corazones.

Y el agua se pone fría

para que nadie la toque.

Agua loca y descubierta

por el monte, monte, monte.

San Miguel lleno de encajes

en la alcoba de su torre,

enseña sus bellos muslos

ceñidos por los faroles.

Arcángel domesticado

en el gesto de las doce,

finge una cólera dulce

de plumas y ruiseñores.

San Miguel canta en los vidrios;

efebo de tres mil noches,

fragante de agua colonia

y lejano de las flores.

El mar baila por la playa,

un poema de balcones.

Las villas de la luna

pierden juncos, ganan voces.

Vienen manolas comiendo

semillas de girasoles,

los culos grandes y ocultos

como planetas de cobre.

Vienen altos caballeros

y damas de triste porte,

morenas por la nostalgia

de un ayer de ruiseñores.

Y el obispo de Manila,

ciego de azafrán y pobre,

dice misa con dos filos

para mujeres y hombres

San Miguel se estaba quieto

en la alcoba de su torre,

con las enaguas cuajadas

de espejitos y entredoses.

San Miguel, rey de los globos

y de los números nones,

en el primor berberisco

de gritos y miradores.

Il poema racconta di una tale San Miguel, il patrono della città (festeggiato ogni 29 Settembre), la cui statua si erge in cima a Sacromonte, il quartiere più remoto della città per la sua posizione in cima alla collina. Lorca descrive l’aspetto effeminato della statua e racconta dei pellegrinaggi de los gitanos che spesso avvengono dal quartiere Albayzín (prossimo a Sacromonte) verso la statua del santo.

Sacromonte, infatti, resta tutt’oggi il quartiere gitano del flamenco.

Las cuevas (grotte), che all’epoca utilizzavano los gitanos come dimore, oggi sono una delle attrazioni maggiori della città. Al loro interno, infatti, si tengono numerosi spettacoli di flamenco e zambra (”festa”, in dialetto marocchino).

In foto, una delle cuevas più note del quartiere.

Il quartiere è molto tipico e folkloristico con le mura delle sue grotte fatte di calce. Quante leggende girano per le sue stradine...

Anche questo viaggio giunge al termine purtroppo.

Elenna: Cold, as cold as you can get, snow is everything

Marya: Cool autumn morning where the dew is still frozen on the leaves waiting for the sun to melt them away

Isabelle: Drizzly day curled up with a nice cup of tea

Peter: Overcast sky, but still with the sun peaking out from behind the clouds

How much respect do your ocs have for furniture? Like who's sitting prim and propper and who's hanging upside down on the couch? Who's always playing the floor is lava with no opponents?

My OC Masterlist

Juliet Holden: Sits normally, doesn’t go out of her way to preserve furniture, but tries her best not to leave a mess

Gabriel Ramirez: Depends on who he’s with. Normally will sit like a person, but if somebody yells out “the floor is lava” he’s up before any one has time to breath.

Sigyn: Absolutely lady when it comes to furniture. It’s like she never touched it when she’s done.

Cassandra Jackson: Tries her best to keep everything presentable, but there are some stains from I’ll thought out experiments that just aren’t coming out no matter how much vinegar she uses.

Ellie Jackson: Feet will inevitably find their way onto furniture and almost always with shoes on.

Damien: Perpetual lounger. It doesn’t matter what he’s sitting in, he will lounge in it.

Jayna Dar: Has never sat like a normal god damn person in her life. Now it’s a point of pride. Legs are propped up constantly.

Sera Darros: Has fallen out of many of chair because of rocking.

Zena Lorell: Has never purchased a new piece of furniture in her life and as such has no problem leaving dirty boots on a sofa cushion.

Lana Solo: Man spreads. If a chair has arm rests she’d rather stand.

Elizabeth “Doc” O’Neil: Sits like a person.

Lucy Henderson: Starts normal but them squirms herself into various positions if she’s not doing anything else. Has watch movies upside down as a result.

Evelyn Doyle: Sits like a nun is ready to hit her on the back of the head with a ruler if she doesn’t keep two feet planted on the ground at all times.

Elenna Stark: Sits like a lady, but will invite pets onto the furniture. She doesn’t even lay down a towel.

Marya Baratheon: Perfect lady. She’s not going to cause shame to her house by slouching.

Isabelle Crowley: Wears too many skirts to lounge the way she sometimes wants to. Never puts shoes in the cushions but comes close enough to make people nervous.

Who’s your favorite OC?

Cliche as it is, not really. I love all of them for different reasons. It all depends on the mood I'm in at any given moment and which fandom I'm currently obsessing over.

What OC have you had the longest?

Probably Juliet since I started developing her all the way back in 2012. However, she's gone through a lot of re-vamps over the years so she's basically a completely different character than what I started with.
