It's the final episode of Self. I am somewhat relieved, because shows with difficult themes can be emotionally draining over extended periods of time. We ended with Neo pointing the loaded gun in Tang's face after a whole episode of flirting, because Neo knows Tang has been talking to June (who is revealed to be Fei's younger brother).
Who is Studio Commuan working with that they have about 22 language captions ready at launch?
Dragonball is dad manga now. I'm old.
The shot of June entering his villain era is well done.
Okay, but what if he had actually shot Tang and the show just ended there?
We didn't get the gun away from him this time? I get so nervous because this boy has poor trigger discipline on top of everything.
We are now live streaming a potential murder.
Oh, I think I'm going to have to add another trigger warning to this post.
We just tossed a loaded gun from the roof of a building.
If this boy pulls both of them off the roof.
We can save Neo from a difficult school situation by making him a blue shorts boy.
Final Verdict: 7, Recommended with Reservations. I think there are some neat ideas in this about obsession in same sex attraction, but it all feels a bit clouded by everything going on. The supernatural bit was intriguing but unresolved, and otherwise feels like a convenient plot device. The production values were solid, and I'd like to see more from this team.
Studio Commuan's #SELFSeries, starring Zen Burapha and Triton Theeradech — is scheduled to be released this September! Depicts "Tang", a young new artist who mysteriously lost his reflection and sees a strange boy named "Neo" in the mirror. An odd relationship starts with a conflict between Suspense and Trust.
thinking of dating older bf!satoru. . .and i’m talking like you’re in your early 20’s and he’s in his early 30’s.
the way he texts at the start of your blooming relationship is super attractive somehow. like the most simplest of texts would get you weak in the knees. texts like ‘good morning, sweetheart.’ // ‘how’s my pretty girl doing?’ // ‘there’s my gorgeous girl.’ // ‘rise ‘n shine, sleepyhead.’ // ‘it’s okay, baby. i understand.’ // ‘you never fail to amaze me, huh.’
or when you’re being very risky via your messenger app, older bf!satoru is definitely the type to say ‘careful.’ // ‘you’re gonna get me in trouble.’ // ‘you’re being quite brave today, doll. // ‘aww, how adorable of you.’ // ‘mhm? that so?’
also . . . gives you money out of the blue. randomly. doesn’t question it at all. or sends expensive gifts your way too without you asking. older bf!satoru would text you stuff like; ‘here’s some money, gorgeous. want you to spoil yourself for me today, okay?’ // ‘just a little gift.’ // ‘you deserve a break, baby. here you go.’ // ‘got you something small.’
and then you check your bank account and it’s an easy $200 / $500 / $800 ++ added by him. or when he’s sending gifts to your apartment, it’s gonna be one of them reaaaaal expensive ones. probably ones you eyed before or had mention you liked very briefly, but didn’t get it because of the price.
definitely also the type to try and accommodate or match his texting style to yours as the months go by. kinda to match your energy. perhaps fails horribly at it, but it’s cute to see him try.
So, anyone who watches this episode should have a trigger warning for suicide and gun violence.
This strange show continues. Last I remember is the Mirror Boys began kinda talking, then dropped a loaded gun in a studio and scared the shit out of everyone.
I may have to issue a trigger warning for potential gun violence on this show. I'm gonna have to take a break if this weapon discharges, especially if it hits a kid.
Fang's friends are understandably upset.
All of the boys have lips in this show. A win for the girlies.
I will say it's interesting seeing this show unpack how the BL-bait style of social media can hurt people. Fei may have liked Neo, but it caused so much trouble for Neo.
I'm so glad I wasn't a teen for Facebook. This is hell.
This is reaching The Effect levels of scary.
Hmmm, that was traumatizing. I wonder how they filmed this to keep the actor safe.
