The plant known as the Blue lotus is a water lily native to fresh waters in eastern Africa and parts of Arabia and Asia. Since ancient times it has been used medicinally and considered sacred by multiple peoples including the Ancient Egyptians, Buddhists and Hindus. The plant contains two compounds in the flower — apomorphine and nuciferine, which make it psychoactive, inducing a calming affect when consumed. For thousands of years this plant has been used in traditional healing and spiritual ceremonies. I flame sculpted this blue lotus flower and lily pad with borosilicate glass and used resin on a mirror to create the water ripple effects for the base. When Clay Comes Alive

It's been 2 years since I used clay for the first time and fell in love. I love it even more every time I work with it.

Clay is a living thing. It has intuition, and insight into the individual's state of mind. It doesn't just change shape as it's worked with, it responds to the individual's touch, intention, and emotional state. And that is when it truly comes alive. A synergy is created between the individual and the clay. That synergy creates infinite possibilities between and within the two.

When possibilities become infinite, one experiences true freedom. Liberation transforms into ecstasy. The rapture gives birth to passion.

Super excited to finally be able to share this with you all! The 2023 Afrika burn poster! I had so much fun creating this - partly because I knew I could push colours and play around a bit! The process behind this artwork was quite something- it is actually an etched brass plate, which I patinated, sanded, processed and I then had digitally scanned and then worked on the digital image thereafter. The theme for the 2023 burn 🔥 is space 🌙 💫 🌚 - and considering that a lot of my etched works have a cosmic fee to then already I couldn’t wait to get stuck in! Working with the theme of SPACE, i played with the idea of an alchemical interweaving of the very substance that is at the heart of the earth or, more mystically, of the cosmos. this scene appears to emerge out of a kind of interaction of the basic chemistry that defines matter ...
