Art by Chris Yarborough.
Sometimes to save the world, you've got to punch a few dragons…
When the planet is being eaten by interdimensional parasites who literally tear holes in reality, what do you do? If you're Charlie Chase, you dive headfirst into an interdimensional adventure. Charlie knows her calling is a weighty one, but she trusts her mentor’s orders: Travel to another dimension, fix the tear, and get home to do it all over again.
But when she gets stuck on an alternate Earth, she has to turn to the most unexpected of allies: a younger, more eccentric, more infamous version of the brilliant mind that sent her on her mission. This version of Vera Baum is as much socialite as scientist, who seems to embrace the notion that curiosity killed the cat, in the way that means she's determined to use up all nine of her lives blasting through a kaleidoscope of genre-bending realities. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better, especially when they’re pursued by reality-eating parasites and a biomechanical hound hellbent on killing Vera.
Ladyhoppers by Sarah Thérèse Pelletier and Scott James Taylor, a casually queer, genre-hopping, multiverse-spanning, madcap buddy comedy packed full of flaming zeppelins, coffee shop romances, car chases, dragon punching scientists, and more pirates than you can shake a multi-limbed death machine at, is available for order now!

I’ve seen a few posts about how the Derry Girls would act in a Yellowjackets situation (love) but I also think it would be funny to just. add them to the Yellowjackets cast. like they were just inexplicably on the plane too. anyway here are my thoughts on the matter:
Erin and Michelle would fight over Travis
The Derry Girls, as Catholics, would be very on board with Lottie and Laura Lee’s whole deal. They would be the first to believe that Lottie is a bonafide girlprophet
Ben would try to help James understand that it’s okay to be gay and James would be like right, thanks, but I’m not gay
Sister Michael, if she was there, would take the rifle from Travis during the hunting competition and inexplicably be the best shot out of the group
Clare would be absolutely losing it over how much rations they have left. just a constant state of panic. she would be even less helpful than Jackie
Erin would be her annoying tryhard self. She’d go with Tai on her expedition for rescue and try to take over leadership. The expedition goes even worse than it does in canon
Erin would really admire Tai and she’d try to emulate her. She pretends to sleepwalk and have an “Other Erin” when she finds out about Tai’s sleepwalking. She is publicly shamed by Michelle when Michelle catches her smearing dirt on her mouth to pretend she also sleep-eats dirt
Like the JV Yellowjackets, Michelle would have no qualms about cannibalism
Clare would be extremely opposed to drawing cards and would be aggressively hyperventilating and crying until someone other than her is chosen. then she goes back on her word that cannibalism is inherently unethical and is all aboard the cannibal train. Michelle calls her out for this. (Well, I just think that because the wilderness chose, Michelle…)
Orla and Misty and Crystal would be friends and Mari would consider murdering them all because they’re much more annoying than just Crystal/Misty. Orla would not really care that Misty broke the flight recorder.
let’s be real, none of the Derry Girls are making it to rescue, but if they did Erin would be immediately publishing her journals. They’d be back for not even a day and she would have that book deal. They wouldn’t even need the likes of Jessica Roberts and other media outlets to snoop around. The Derry Girls would be calling networks themselves to get on talk shows.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes, stumble, and fall, because most of the time the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you'll get everything you wish for. Maybe you'll get more than you could have ever imagined. Who knows where life will take you. The road is long, and in the end the journey is the destination.

The one with the whales. <3
Notice how Gillian also grabs Kirk’s hand at first to help him (with Spock between them because of course he is), but later there are a lot of shots of the main characters between other parts, and it’s always Kirk and Spock only holding each other.

also jackie absolutely would've partaken in the cannibalism had she made it to the same point.
the girls eating Jackie is a horrific act, but the act itself isn't about morality. Starvation--specifically the point of starvation the Yellowjackets were at by this point--betrays the mind and body. As your muscles break down and your organs disintegrate, your nutrient-starved brain makes you hungry for literally anything you can chew and swallow, edible or not. Your brain doesn't even have to make you hallucinate, you become ravenously hungry the second anything remotely edible appears in front of you and it's nigh impossible to stop yourself from consuning the thing your brain has now identified as food.
When the girls smelled meat cooking it triggered this exact instinct. They literally couldn't have helped themselves. They were starving adolescent kids, they didn't stand a chance. Jackie would have been the same. So would Laura Lee, for that matter. They were sweet, warm-hearted girls, but they weren't saints or superhuman. They would have been starving kids like all the others.
Why didn't Coach Ben join in? He's a grown man. Yeah, but as an adult well past puberty and with a fully developed brain, he has more self-control than kids whose bodies and brains are still developing. And that's the point.
He's the proverbial adult in the room. He's supposed to be there to keep them safe and sane and he's failed. Not only have 2 of his charges died on his watch, but now the remaining kids have starved to the point of eating their dead.
If it were a matter of being scared of/disgusted by them Ben would've burned down the cabin and fucked off that night. But he stays because he's afraid OF them and FOR them.
They aren't monsters. They're kids. They're starving. They're desperate. Their brains aren't finished growing. Their already-limited self-control & reasoning is being crippled by a body that's starting to literally eat itself as a last resort. They don't resort to cannibalism due to their being inherently violent or predatious, or because they were intrinsically worse people than the teammate and team captain who predeceased them.
THEY. WERE. STARVING.

It is perfectly manifest that General Taylor is very hostile to the administration and seeks a cause to quarrel with it. This he shall not have unless he places himself wholly in the wrong, as indeed he has already done. He is evidently a weak man and has been made giddy with the idea of the Presidency. He is most ungrateful, for I have promoted him, as I now think beyond his deserts, and without reference to his politics. I am now satisfied that he is a narrow-minded, bigoted partisan without resources and wholly unqualified for the command he holds...I am now satisfied that anybody would do better than Taylor. Taylor is no doubt brave and will fight, but is not fit for a higher command than that of a Regiment. I have no prejudice against him, but think he has acted with great weakness and folly.
-- President James K. Polk, on General Zachary Taylor, commander of U.S. troops during the Mexican-American War, in a personal diary entry, November 21, 1846.
General Taylor's military success in Mexico had raised his profile nationally and made him a popular potential candidate for political office, which bothered President Polk, despite the fact that Polk only intended to serve a single, four-year term in the White House. As Taylor became more popular, President Polk worked to sideline him and eventually replaced him as commander with General Winfield Scott (who had political ambitions of his own). Much to Polk's chagrin, Taylor was easily elected President in 1848 and succeeded the retiring Polk, who died just over 100 days later in June 1849. President Taylor barely outlasted Polk, and died in office in July 1850.
