ok i was poetic about vorastrix. time to be silly. if they're not in combat there's a good 80% chance they aren't wearing a shirt (and if they are it is cropped.) they have the cilantro soap gene. they don't like cake frosting and will actively take that shit off. they're touch-starved as all hell but fuck if they'll let you touch them but if you give them a gentle scratch behind the fins they'll become a puddle. they don't like being compared to snakes but they are charmed to be compared to the noble monitor lizard. their scalecare is abysmal and they'd be a much more vibrant and shiny color if they took care of their scales beyond bathing when necessary

Prompt: Shed

While staying at Camp Dragonhead post-Bloody Banquet, Drakyr went through a few scale sheds. This is a glimpse at her first one. With her skin/scalecare left behind, Haurchefant offers to do what she can.

                Haurchefant’s eyebrows furrowed as he watched Drakyr scratch at her arm yet again. She’d barely sipped from her after-dinner tea in his private quarters. “Are you all right? You seem particularly itchy.”

                “I am,” Drakyr sighed. “I have a shed coming on. But the ointment I use on my scales is, well…” She shrugged. It was with whatever else she’d brought with her to Ul’dah. “I am without it now either way. The dry air here in Coerthas isn’t helping. Normally, it takes a few days to get this far along, but this has happened over the course of just today.”

                At that, Haurchefant noticed that her scales’ texture became drier and paler. He tutted under his breath. “What can be done to replace it? To otherwise alleviate your discomfort?” One hand rose to brush her hair away from her face. “I will do all in my power to – “

                Dried flakes from the scale patch on Drakyr’s cheek rubbed off on his hand.

                “Oh,” said Haurchefant as he looked at the flakes.

                “Oh!” exclaimed Drakyr as she did the same. “Oh, I’m. I’m sorry. ‘Twould seem it’s begun already. Warm water will help. Most likely, that will be the best we can do for my scales now.”

                Haurchefant nodded, resolute. “I shall prepare some warm compresses for you. In the meantime, please remove your clothes.”

                Drakyr set her tea aside and stood to do so. “I appreciate it, truly.” She grinned. “A shame we don’t have a better reason to get me naked.”

                Haurchefant grinned in turn. “Any reason to get you naked is a good one, my sweet.”
