DS9 airport AU
It’s a tiny regional airport in a small city that’s fallen on hard times. There are maybe two gates and only one runway. It looks like it was built in the 40′s and has never been remodeled. Most of the traffic is private planes and the smallest connecting commercial flights.
Quark’s Restaurant & Bar & Grill always smells like breakfast and cigarettes. The carpet has been replaced in sections and none of the squares quite match. Vintage arcade games line the narrow hall that leads to the restrooms.
There’s a news stand that sometimes has fresh flowers. There’s always a religious nut handing out beautifully illustrated pamphlets about the alien oppressors. The baggage carousel never stops rattling.
Nobody’s really sure why Garak chose to set up shop in the space that used to be the car rental office. Most of his business seems to come from dry cleaning pilots’ uniforms.
((This got long for something that isn’t a fic.))
Corrupt Mayor Dukat has been trying for decades to shut down this tiny airport so he can get funding to build a larger, more modern one. The entire region is in decline and it seems entirely due to Dukat’s political scheming.
Don Enabran Tain from the big city upstate has had a run-in with the Feds. He plans to reroute his “business” through this tiny airport until everything blows over. Tain is giving his bastard son one last chance to prove his loyalty. Garak’s Clothiers is only a front for a drug smuggling gig.
There’s an old hotel across the street from the airport. Everyone is convinced that it’s haunted but it’s the only 4-star hotel in the city so that’s where travelers and flight attendants stay. Julian Bashir (jet-setter, old-money, dilettante) has been spending a suspicious amount of time there. The rumor mill says he’s having an affair with one of the city’s residents.
Julian Bashir is actually working for the federal government under duress. If he doesn’t help the Feds he’ll loose everything- because Richard Bashir committed an ungodly amount of tax fraud.
Odo is the city’s sheriff. He’s working closely with the Feds on this case. Odo absolutely cannot stand the fact that organized crime is happening in his city.
Kira is the city’s overworked District Attorney. She honestly just wants Mayor Dukat to die because that would fix 90% of the city’s problems.
Sisko is the airport’s new manager. He took this job because he wanted to raise his son in a wholesome small-town environment. Sisko has always had very vivid, lucid dreams.
Worf is a TSA agent. His inflexibility and anger issues are the reason he was reassigned to this tiny airport with basically no traffic.
Jadzia, is the air traffic controller. She’s too young to have ulcers but she has them anyway because her job is unreal levels of stressful. You wouldn’t know it though- she’s really good at compartmentalizing.
Miles is an aircraft technician. He’s a shell-shocked veteran. Keiko is merciless about making sure he takes care of himself.
Rom is a baggage handler. He wears two pairs of ear plugs under his ear protection because he gets overstimulated at least five times a day.
Leeta is a flight attendant. She once jokingly said that she would marry the man who could guess where she was born. Quark has been methodically listing off cities for years.
Damar is a pilot. He went to school with Dukat. They played football together. They attended the same college and they planned to run for office together. They had a serious falling-out and neither of them will say why.
The Dominion is a multinational corporation that takes advantage of Mayor Dukat’s ambition. The Dominion promises to create jobs and stimulate the local economy. What they actually do is monopolize literally everything and convert the whole city into a next-level dystopian “company town”
The economic woes of this small airport and this small city are a microcosm of what is happening all over the planet in the wake of the Dominion’s aggressive capitalism.
((This is the point where the plot goes from “realistic crime drama” to “actually, i lied, this is science fiction,”))
THE BIG TWIST:
The Founders are actually alien invaders. The Dominion Corporation is just the most cost-efficient method of subjugating the population.
The Vorta are actually aliens. They’re also lawyers, secretaries, regional managers, and every other corporate stooge you might think of.
The Jem’Hadar are hired thugs. They’re mostly human. “Ketracel White. It’s transformative!” is a slogan.
COMEDY BITS:
Quark gets busted for smuggling exotic fish.
Worf is genuinely embarrassed by the sex toys he encounters while searching luggage.
Julian uses bad pickup lines on Leeta, “You must have been born in the clouds because you’re an angel.”
Benjamin keeps dreaming that his baseball turns up in weird places. His baseball keeps turning up in weird places.
Garak goes over-the-top flaming-homosexual-cliche in an attempt to get Julian out of his shop. It has the opposite effect.
ROMANCE BITS:
Garak and Bashir have a torrid this-could-be-my-last affair because both of them have everything to lose.
Worf and Jadzia’s love-to-hate-you relationship escalates to a full-on-brawl. They fuck in the men’s room and then pretend it never happened.
Rom accurately guesses that Leeta was born on an airplane over the Pacific Ocean and proposes. She accepts.
DRAMA BITS:
Jake Sisko uses Ketracel White in order to gain entry to the Dominion factory and uncover the truth. He is successful but the long-term effects of the drug are devastating.
Garak travels to the big city upstate and confronts Don Tain. Tain, on his death bed, forgives Garak but bequeaths the “family business” to Pythas Lok.
Odo is revealed to be a Founder. He was sent ahead as a scout but fell in love with the planet and it’s people.
Damar’s falling out with Dukat happened because Damar (drunk and/or coked out) killed Ziyal in a car accident. Dukat believes that Damar did it deliberately.
Ben Sisko realizes that his “lucid dreams” actually effect reality. He is kidnapped by the Dominion. The Female Founder interrogates him because she believes he is an alien! That’s ridiculous! Isn’t it?
Dukat (hyped up on Ketracel?) assaults Kira. She destroys him; physically and politically. She then proceeds to kick asses and take names.
HORROR BITS:
Wiki How To Make a Jem’Hadar Army with Disenfranchised Youth and Ketracel White.
CLIMACTIC BITS:
A joint FBI/mafia assault team retakes the airport and prevents SOMETHING BAD from happening.
Miles terrifies the living shit out of everyone with his sniper skills.
Damar does a kamikaze with an empty 747, destroys the Ketracel factory, and eliminates the Female Founder.
Benjamin is rescued. He accepts that he is not entirely human and uses his “lucid dream” ability to remove all traces of Ketracel from Jake’s body.
Sisko and Odo board a Dominion space ship: they hope to intercept the Dominion forces and convince them to turn around.
ENDING BITS:
Kira is elected mayor.
Jake’s investigative reporting earns him a Pulitzer or something.
Rom and Leeta get hitched. Garak and Julian slow dance at the reception.
The airport gets rebuilt. (It was totally trashed in the climactic battle.)
Nobody knows what happened to Sisko and Odo. Either they were successful or the world will be destroyed sometime in the near future. People are preparing for the worst but hoping for the best.

While rewatching Britannia I had this crazy idea for a Garashir AU:
Meet Julius Subatus Bashira (sorry for the bad latinisation, there are probably better variations but tired...), medicus from Saldae who came to Britannia with the Roman army, and Garak, Cardassian (a celtic tribe with draconic ancestry I guess *facepalm*) castoff druid initiate, who saves his life. They debate their cultures and raise goats together (whatever, somebody has a soft spot for Ancient Rome and enoyed Spartacus and Nagron way too much). No idea what Julius‘ dark secret is though... Any ideas?

Bloody Kira and Laughing Dax - KiraDax pirates AU, Kira attacks Jadzia and gets taken captive. Updating every other Wednesday, 19 chapters posted, writing #33.
Laughing Dax and Bloody Kira - same story, told from Jadzia's POV. Will post when Bloody Kira is done. Writing ch 21.
Airport AU - a request that I'm currently stuck on. KiraDax human AU, they meet in an airport.
New Everything - 7 chapters posted, this has basically moved from Hiatus to Abandoned due to lack of ideas and interest. High School AU but Freshman Ziyal's POV, she's been recently adopted by Kira, the school assistant principal. As she navigates a new school, new friends, and new family, Ziyal finds out her mom likes the librarian, Miss Dax, and the home-ec teacher Mr. Garak is dating nurse Bashir. The eventual goal was for Ziyal to tell Kira "I love you, Mom." ❤️
She's Imperfect, But She Tries - everyone lives canon rewrite feat. KiraDax (and Garashir) parenting Ziyal. Also treats the trauma Kira goes through as realistically as I can manage, will add Counselor Ezri Tigan when I reach that point. Stopped at 17 chapters, just after Kira gives birth to Kirayoshi. STG I will return to this when I have the energy to rewatch and rewrite the Dominion Occupation eps.

So I’ve been seeing fanart with Garashir with an adopted Cardassian child & I’m super close to writing a fic based on those 😂😅 Here are some thoughts about this au:
The kid is found by Julian after someone leaves him on Julian's doorstep
Garak sort of moves into Julian's quarters at some point
Ziyal becomes one of the kid's favourite aunts/babysitters
When Julian is kidnapped by the Dominion, the child immediately notices that the "Julian" on the station is not the real Julian and Garak takes the child and moves into his quarters until Julian gets back

In case you ever feel like knowing what kind of fic I read for some reason
TOP FIVE:
animal, vegetable, mineral series by stilitana (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream)
In which Ted attempts to adopt a variety of philosophical outlooks in order to survive his condition, AM hears a bedtime story, and we conclude somewhere marginally less bleak than in the original so that your poor faint-hearted author can sleep at night.
Okay, if you read just one thing from this list, read this. It’s worth reading the original short story just so you can read this series (esp. part 2). I cannot stress enough how good this is. It’s just. Poetic and human and cathartic and. I practically have it memorised at this point. My absolute favourite fanfic of all time, and ranks higher than a good many books I’ve read, too.
The Sacred And The Profane by afrai (Good Omens)
Somewhere else the happy ending was different.
A roleswap au where Aziraphale is a demon and Crowley is an angel, while still managing to maintain their respective original personalities perfectly. And oh, god, it’s so painful, it’s horrible in exactly the best way. I don’t know how well known this one is in the post-Amazon-show fandom, but if you’re at all into GO and haven’t heard of it, it’s a classic. (And by classic I do mean it’s only a few years younger than I am.) Still the single best work I’ve read for GO, even all these years later. Hosted on ff.n, because, yeah, it’s old.
Revolutionary Etude by Ololon (ST:DS9)
Post-series end, Julian is living on Cardassia and in a relationship with Garak, and their future seems assured. But a chance encounter with a former Cardassian dissident leaves Julian wondering if he ever really knew Garak at all…and may jeopardise both their futures.
A bit dense but worth it. Post-canon Garashir focusing heavily on the Cardassian ‘cyclical memory’ and how a society can and cannot move on from its past. An exploration of guilt and moving on, and the lies and truths bound up in the stories we tell. Also, healthy, committed relationships are always a win. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Somehow manages to combine character development with anteretrograde amnesia. Colony fic, very slow and contemplative, and a lovely mix of melancholy and hopeful. Mostly T’Pol centric. But then again I’m one of like two people who actually enjoyed ST:ENT, and it was solely because of T’Pol, so what can I say?

A Reflection of Starlight by AutumnGracey (Les Mis)
Curiosity causes Valjean to follow Javert to the Seine, and what he sees there changes everything. Now they must struggle to understand one another as their worlds come crashing down around them.
The consummate example of the post-Seine fix-it. Takes every loose thread of character development and explores them to their fullest. It’s such a natural character progression, and so soft, and when I first found it I read it twice back to back in a single night. Incomplete at 67 chapters, but the majority of the character development has happened by then and there’s no cliffhanger (ch 67 could serve as an end just fine) so it’s a very satisfying read regardless.
Ándre’s Burden by Anonymous (Les Mis)
Javert is a project, and a difficult one at that. Chabouillet finds himself taking on a protégé he never realised he wanted or needed. It’s an odd form of apprenticeship, but the strange and severe young man he picked out from the police academy is growing on Chabouillet, and amidst political corruption and underhand plotting Chabouillet considers falling for him an inconvenient and curable accident.
This one’s really good. It probably won’t make a lot of sense if you aren’t already in the Javert side of the Les Mis fandom, but if you are, give it a read, it’s good and tragic.
Domesticity by CeilingKiwi (Detroit: Become Human)
When Hank’s wife abandons him and their young son, Hank struggles to adjust to single parenthood. He buys a second-hand domestic android to help keep his household afloat, an android with buggy software and an unusual amount of initiative. As Connor becomes an indispensable member of the household, Hank finds himself questioning everything he thought he knew about androids—and about authenticity, personhood, and society.
Very long and very good. Slowly developing sentience, emotional intelligence, complexity… in terms of character development, this one has it all. Refuses to take shortcuts or easy answers. And the romance aspect is very well done. WIP but again, the emotional arc is already very satisfying where it’s at, so shouldn’t be skipped on that account.

1. TOS: Spirk - I can’t believe James Tiberius Kirk and S'chn T'gai Spock invented the concept of romantic love. “This simple feeling”???? More like: I simply cannot handle the feelings these two have for each other. “Here Spock, I’ll destroy my beloved ship to save you.” “Here Jim, I’ll sacrifice my life.” “You make me believe in luck” “You make me believe in miracles”. “Jim, I’m supposed to be an emotionless Vulcan but I am compromised by my overwhelming feelings for you”. Constantly stealing glances at one another on the bridge. The fleeting touches. The smiles they exchange. This just in: Local Starfleet officers have been spiritually married the instant they laid eyes on one another. They’re canonically t’hy’la! (soulmates) Gene Roddenberry said so! Ugh my heart!!!
2. TNG: Daforge - These two neuroatypical gay nerds managed to find each other and become BEST FRIENDS. They paint, they cosplay, they LARP, they hang out with each other all day every day. They practically sit on each other’s laps and have zero sense of personal space. The NOD they do! In the books (or at least one of them), there are paragraphs of Geordi rambling about how beautiful he thinks Data is. In the comics, Data starts sobbing and beating the absolute shit out of Q because he thinks Geordi is dead. He doesn’t have the emotion chip, he just cares about Geordi so much that it transcends established android lore.
In the show, Data outright talks about the fact that he feels an affinity for Geordi - that he cares about him more than any other person. He rejects the emotion chip, something he has wanted his entire life, because he never wants to hurt Geordi ever again. And Geordi, in turn, gives his express permission for Data to install the chip because he doesn’t want Data to “give up [his] dream.” That’s love, folks. Neither of them give up when the other has been declared dead (Data in “The Most Toys” and Geordi in “The Next Phase”) - they do everything they can to recover each other. Data directly disobeys orders in “Interface” and actively assists Geordi in his task to recover his mother because he recognizes how important this is to him.
You can’t tell me that they don’t eventually get married and adopt cats and orphaned humanoid children and sentient technology together. Nerd papas. I love them!!
3. i dunno what to put as a third ship, honestly. I have had other OTPs in the past but they don’t really resonate with me as much because I’m not in those fandoms anymore. I guess in terms of DS9 I like garashir, kiradax, and quodo - but i’m not really invested in any of them just yet. They’re just kinda... there.
“But Jay!” I hear you say “Why wouldn’t put AOS Spirk? I see you reblog that all the time, and you clearly care about TOS Spirk a lot.” Well, the truth is... I do reblog AOS content, and I do read AOS fics, but it’s less about the characters themselves and more about the fact that I like the artwork, or I like the idea of the story. But most of the time I think to myself: “...What if this was TOS Spirk instead?” To me it’s a bit like ordering coke at a restaurant and getting the response “Is Pepsi ok?” I mean, yeah. I’ll drink the pepsi, since that’s what you have. But I do wish y’all had coke. So yeah, AOS spirk doesn’t get the OTP slot.
lipstick or chapstick? i LOVE milk & honey chapstick so when I actually remember to use it, that’s what I go for. I don’t really wear lipstick because it tends to be messy (and also because my family gets Weird™ about it) but it does make me feel Very Cool. My Nanowrimo Challenge
So I’m giving myself a bit of a different challenge for nano because I don’t need to be writing another novel length fic while I have a gazillion wips so, my challenge is
Writing 50k words (or more) to existing WIPs
So here is the master list along with current story status. Shoot me a reply dm whatever to let me know 2 or 3 that you’d like to see an update on and the top I dunno 2-5 (depending on how much story advancement comes from 50k words as much as I go on) will get updated and/or finished come 12/1!
A, Men: a/b/o-ish garashir porn, sequel to “O, Julian” and “I, Garak” (which had Dukat/Bashir also). Currently working on Chapter 3. Up on AO3
A Ceiling of Stars: sci fi au garashir based off a misunderstanding. Working on the main fic. (This one got weird because it started out one way, got mostly written, I had another idea in this world which got 50k written, then I went back to the original haha). Prologue is on AO3
A Gift for my Darling: Garak/Bashir/Parmak super dark twisted mirror universe AU where mirror Julian is a body horror cat slave. Lots of guro shit and porn. Working on chapter 7. All chapters are archived HERE
Cross: Desert Fantasy AU Garak/Bashir/Parmak where Julian was recruited to assassinate Garak- full of intrigue, some sex, and angst. Currently working on Chapter 6. Up on AO3

For the Glory of Morning: Jack/Julian, Jack pack AU where the Jack pack are space pirates with lots of episodic adventures. Working on Chapter 5 as well as a sister story featuring the Cardassian crew led by Garak which has the working title “For the Glory of Night”. Up on AO3
Inside a Dream: garashir (past Jack/Julian and Julian/Sarina), some kelim and also will have Jack/Parmak. Post Canon everything AU where Julian’s mind is broken after Sarina’s death and Garak is trying to bring him back. Working on Chapter 6. Currently up on tumblr HERE
Invictus: Kelim (possibly garashir and parmashir later) PCC AU where Parmak is raising 7 children struggling to survive after The Fire, and Garak comes back to a very unhappy reunion to recruit him for a special mission. a dark au with a twisted relationship between Parmak and Garak. Limitless: garashir epic where Julian was also a sociopath with a split personality from his enhancements and is going to wreak havoc on the station. Twisted mind control dark dubcon story. The first fanfic done for the fandom and is currently being rewritten from the beginning (the technical events will remain the same). Working on both Chapter 9 and the rewrite and this is up on AO3. (You may not want to read yet though since it is crazy long and early chapters are being overhauled)
Lizards Melt in your Mouth: Modern garashir porn AU where Garak is Parmak’s “pet” lizard and Julian has been recruited to pet sit. The main story is done but I am doing a massive edit and am still planning some sort of epilogue/sequel. Working on the edit and sequels. Up on AO3
