Do you have a favorite kind of plant? A favorite tree?
chinese hibiscus are my favourite flowers, next to star jasmine and tiger lilies. all grow in my grandparents' yard in malaysia ❤️
in a wider scope, i study dye plants and trees and thus the plants i can identify and feel most connected to are dye precursors, especially those used traditionally across southeast asia. when i think of my favourite trees i think of all these tropical hardwoods and plants. so here is a non-exhaustive list of southeast asian dye plants:
🌻 sappanwood (biancaea sappan) also called brazilwood not to be confused with another, different tree also called brazilwood; it was taken from southeast asia by the portuguese and brought with them to the americas - red, pink, purple
🌻 indigo (called tagom or tagum in various filipino languages, tarum in malay) - blue, blue, blue, there are several species but japanese indigo as well as a few other varieties are commonly grown
🌻 annatto seed (this is the most common of filipino dyes from what i've read) - yellow, orange, red
narra woodchips (national tree of the philippines) - brown, red, pink, pinkish brown
asthma plant (tawa-tawa) - yellow
indian almond tree (talisay) - the roots, leaves, bark, all rich with tannins, yellow dye naturally but can give greys and blacks
mahogany (mahoni in malay) - reddish brown
taro plant (called gabi, aba, abalong) - leaves give yellowish green
🌻 turmeric root (kunyit in malay) - yellow. not very lightfast so usually combined with other dyes
🌻 ceriops tagal (mangrove - soga tinggi in indonesian) - reddish rusty warm brown, a vital and very rare dye now due to deforestation. the dyers in bali i know who use it source it from a fair trade org in papua that harvests small, controlled amounts. i have been very lucky to use this and the colour is magnificent
yellow flamboyant bark or yellow flame (soga jambal in indonesian, peltophorum pterocarpum) - warm yellow to red to dark brown, using peeled bark
cudrania javanensis (tegeran in indonesian) wood - yellow
🌻 cockspur thorn (maclura cochinchinensis) - yellow, very strong high quality yellow
mango - leaves, bark, peels give yellow, especially when processed as lake pigment
angsana - wood shavings make honey brown
🌻 jackfruit heartwood - clear strong yellow
🌻 symplocos - natural bio-accumulator of aluminum, used as a mordant in dyeing
🌻 fire flame bush (woodfordia fruticosa) - flowers contain strong tannins, combined with mangrove mud and fermented to raise the iron in the mixture to create a dye that is the primary traditional way of achieving grey through black
pandan leaves, mangosteen leaves and peels, cassava leaves, and lemongrass are all also used as dye plants. i have seen recipes where cassava leaves and mango leaves are pounded together in water and left to ferment in the sun to create yellows and greens
🌻 = i have personally dyed with these

Day Twenty, Part Two: Monks, Markets, and Manmade Goods
After a breakfast that, unsurprisingly, contained none of the ingredients I’d seen at the Morning Market, it was off to the Traditional Art and Ethnology Center, which explained the relationships among the more than one hundred different ethnic groups that comprise modern Laos.
The center displayed the furnishings of a traditional Laotian house,
Tumblr media
as well as some of the clothing worn by the different ethnic groups.
Tumblr media
What I found most interesting, however, were the posters that explained various things that had confused me. For example in Colin Cotterill’s novels, he frequently divides the Laotian people into three main groups: the Laotians, the Montagnards, and the Hmong. One poster traced thousands triple division to 1975, explaining it as follows (the three groups follow the same order I used for Cotterill’s above):
Tumblr media
Another also explained why the H in Hmong is sometimes pronounced and sometimes not:
Tumblr media
The main theme of the center was that cultural appropriation is roughly akin to theft of intellectual property, explaining it this way:
Tumblr media
Our next stop of the morning was the Living Crafts Center,
Tumblr media
which was co-founded in 2000 by a local weaver and a former magazine photographer from the UK.
This center seeks to preserve traditions Laotian arts by providing materials and workspace to weavers in various traditions and teaching visitors about local crafts. I got to see living silk worms, feeding on shredded mulberry leaves (it must have been my day for worms)
Tumblr media
and the white and yellow cocoons that the Bombyx silk works (originally from China) spin.
Tumblr media
There was also a display of the various natural materials used to make dyes.
Tumblr media
After this explanation, it was time for “class.” I must have given the false impression, when I said I was interested in art, that I was somehow skilled in creating art. Nothing could be further from the truth. My typical experience in art classes is to follow instructions to the best of my ability, only to have the teacher single me out at the end of the lesson for some failure or other and then having to redo whatever project. But, as I’ve said before, when in Luang Prabang … So, here I am cutting pieces of sappan wood to make red dye:

My favorite Lake Pigments as of today. These are the ones that I have made so far that I really enjoy. There are some missing that I am still trying to get to a place I am happy with (like avocado pits, hibiscus, and pomegranate peel) and ones I really want to work with some day (like full indigo leaf rather than powder, sappan wood, black mallow, wild grapes, walnuts, black rice, red root, and bloodroot) I definitely want to get some more true blues, deep purples, cool browns, and brighter greens. Though I will note that the Red Rose Green looks a lot more green, my scanner really hated this swatch.

- A Brief Introduction to Korean Purple Dye -
For those who are into historical costuming or who simply love useless trivia, let us talk about a fascinating topic - 자주색 (jajusaek) or purple!!!
Before synthetic dyes, such as synthetic purple invented by English chemist William Henry Perkin (1838-1907) were created and commercialized during the Industrial Revolution, dyes were painstakingly done by sourcing, transporting, mixing, adding, oxidizing, etc, chemical compunds found in animals, plants, and minerals. That meant that animals such as insects, snails, flowers, and mineral rocks were crushed, mixed, and/or treated in a complex process to generate specific colors.
Dyeing was once an elevated art form that not many could afford like in the case of purple. Purple is considered by many historians to be one of the most, if not, the most difficult dye to produce naturally. Don’t believe me? Just check the World History Encyclopedia Page to see how one of the most famous purples, Tyrian Purple, was produced in the West [here]. The reason why it was so difficult is because sourcing the natural chemicals for the dye from hard-to-find natural producers took time, knowledge, and money as well as developing complex processes that would ensure the vibrance, adherence to the fabric, and life-span of a dye that just didn’t cooperate. In short, it was a headache.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that the West had a monopoly on purple. Asian cultures also knew how to produce the color. However, I wish to focus on Korean purple, also known as Gromwell purple, which comes from the Gromwell plant (lithospermum erythrorhizon) or, rather, its roots. While the Gromwell plant itself produces vibrant reds termed 자초 (jacho; called after the plant), the roots could be grounded into a fine powder to produce a reddish-purplish color similar to plum that had warm undertones. To make the fibers of the desired fabric absorb the dye, it was necessary to use an alum mordant which helps the colors gain their brilliance and protects them from being washed away for a long period of time. For an extensive lesson on Korean dyes throughout Korean history from the Baekje (백제) era until today, check out this blogpost:
Fun Fact: the Japanese termed the purple they got from the Gromwell plant, their main source of purple, as “murasaki” which, if you are familiar with Japanese culture, literature, or history, you would know that’s the alias that the author of The Tale of Genji is known for today. Back to Korea.
Some of the other plants used in the Joseon era (1392 A.D.- 1910 A.D.) to make purple were sappan wood and hollyhock which produce reds and and blues respectively [Kim, 2014]. They are also both found in various parts of Asia, including Korea. If you’re curious to see what sappan wood reds and purples look like, then I invite you to check out this blog post:
The Gromwell plant’s significance to Korean culture cannot be understated as it was not only used to dye fabrics but also cosmetics, to create paint, and as traditional medicine for inflammation and burns [Cho et al., 2008]. Additionally, it helped create one of the colors of the Ogansaek (오간색) or the five secondary colors in Korean culture.
The purple we avid consumers of historical K-Dramas are familiar with that is often used to dye modern hanbok recreations is NOT historically accurate. It’s this blueish purple rather than reddish purple that was not available in the peninsula until after the 1870s when artificial dyes were first introduced to Joseon society [Song & Hong, 2019]. Many modern day purple hanbok on TV screens look like laser beams ready to damage corneas. That specific shade of purple that has cool undertones and seems highly saturated would not be possible using plant, animal, or mineral-based dyes.
The first widespread use of purple in Korea as a symbol of status came from the Baekje Kingdom (18 B.C.- A.D. 660) where the king was
[…] known to have dressed in a wide-sleeved violet garment, blue silk pants, a white leather belt, a gold or black silk hat and black leather shoes. Other documents said Baekje courtiers wore colored belts (purple, red or blue) to distinguish their ranks [Kim, 2020]
This color system to identify courtiers and even the social classes in general was adopted fully by the Silla (57 B.C.– 935 A.D.) Kingdom in the 6th century A.D thanks, in part, to the new caste system developed in 520 A.D., the Bone Rank System (골품제도). Those sitting at the top two ranks “sacred bone” (성골) and “true bone” (진골), were the only ones who could wear purple. If you wish to learn more about the Bone Rank System, then check out this link:
By Queen Seondeok’s reign (632 A.D.-647 A.D.) the color ranks for courtiers at Silla court from highest to lowest were purple, red, green, and cyan blue.
During Goryeo (918 A.D.-1392 A.D.), dye manufacturing specialized facilities appeared and the previous Silla color system was upheld for the first half of Goryeo but the Bone Rank System did not survive [Anderson, 2019]. However, purple still retained its high-status association [Kim, 2020]
Tumblr media
From left to right: All three are Goguryeo (고구려) (37 B.C.-668 A.D.) purple robe recreations based on archeological evidence [source], [source], [source].
By the time of Joseon, purple was still being used by the upper classes but with notable differences. For instance, red came to replace purple as the color for the king since red went on to signify a stronger connection with masculinity (yang) and also due to Ming influence. Kings still wore purple robes but for casual wear while, for ceremonies, they would switch to red. High ranking courtiers also shifted away from purple and into deep crimson reds. As far as the court women were concerned, Park Hyunjung for the Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles writes:
The color rank of the Wonsam is as follows: the Queen’s color was red, the Crown Princess’ was green and purple, the royal concubine’s was usually green and blue, but they could wear purple when they won the King’s favor. A prince’s wife’s was usually green, but she wore blue and purple if she became the mother of the King. The princess’s was green, and the court lady’s was green, blue, and black (2009)
The wonsam (원삼), pictured below, came in different colors throughout its history. Red, green, purple, and yellow. Although the latter was only used very briefly towards the end of the Joseon Dynasty after Korea declared itself an empire. Before, neither Korean kings nor queens were allowed to wear the color yellow as Joseon was considered a vassal kingdom of China and such a move would have been controversial, to say the least.

Representation of red wonsam (홍원삼) worn by Korean queens and high ranking concubines at the end of the Joseon period. According to the Garyedogam Uigwe (가례도감의궤), the record of royal marriages, there was no wonsam for the queen but there were green ones for the Crown Princesses. Queens went on to have specific Hongwonsam (red wonsam) by the end of the Joseon period (modern times) [source].
A reproduction of Princess Deok-on's ceremonial green wonsam (녹원삼) (1822-1844). Nokwonsam was worn by crown princesses, princesses, or noble ladies, depending on the time period. At some point, only princesses and aristocratic women wore nokwonsam, at others, nokwonsam was worn by crown princesses too. Commoner women could marry wearing nokwonsam but without any golden embellishments (modern times) [source].
A representation of purple wonsam called jajeokwonsam (자적원삼). Depending on the time period, jajeokwonsam was worn by concubines and princess consorts or by crown princesses too. Commoner women could also marry wearing a jajeokwonsam but were not allowed golden decorations (modern times) [source].
More examples of purple in Joseon clothing ranging from aristocratic and court to military wear:
Tumblr media
Left to right; top to bottom: Front and back views of a purple danryeong. Danryeong (단령) initially was worn by civil and military officials for mourning. Eventually, it developed into the man’s wedding clothes in traditional Korean weddings (ca. 1970s) [source].

Ritual robe called jebok (제복) worn at the Royal Ancestral Shrine while performing ancestral rites. This particular robe was worn by Gun Heungwan. Ritual and ceremonial robes are constructed the same way but, with ritual robes, the person wears a decorative white raw silk collar, a black silk robe on top of a white inner silk robe (this is one, particularly is purple), and the red ceremonial apron seen in jobok is amplified and worn on the chest (1815-1848) [source].

A popular trend among the women seems to have been dyeing the goreum (고름), or ribbon, purple while leaving the jeogori (저고리), or shirt, a different color. A popular color combination was purple and green. The color of the goreum could tell you a great deal about the woman wearing it. A purple goreum meant that your husband was alive and a blue goreum, that you had a son [Kim, 2016]. Although the colors were not compulsory for the above cases, they were meant to signal socio-economic and marital status.

What seems to be purple paint in murals too:
Tumblr media
A detailed view of the mural on the western wall of the main chamber of the Goguryeo period Tokhung-ri (Deokheung-ri; 덕흥리) Tomb (Northeast Asian History Network, 2011). The color on this and several other murals in the tomb appear to be purple which may be because actual purple was used or the red paint oxidized giving it its purple appearance [source].
Back to wonsam:
Purple wonsam were worn mainly by 3 kinds of people in three different situations.
Crown Princesses: Their wonsam were deep purple with only Chinese characters for good fortune made out of gold leaf or thread allowed as decorations. Only queens were allowed to have floral and animal motifs. Crown princesses wore purple wonsam for important ceremonies.
Royal concubines after they gained favor from the king and were required to attend a formal ceremony wearing the wonsam. Their wonsam too could only be decorated with Chinese characters.
Any commoner woman, no matter how low, could wear a purple wonsam with no decorations for her wedding day. Her husband would also dress in an official’s purple danryeong with no insignia.
Examples of purple wonsam:
Tumblr media

Although at the beginning of Joseon men were allowed to wear insignia on their purple danryeong, this eventually died down until no commoner was allowed to do so. Because the purple dye (as well as the other dyes on the outfit), silk, and accessories were too expensive for the average commoner to afford (if it was up to them to procure all articles necessary to officiate the wedding they wouldn’t be able to wed at all), the local government would most likely have kept a certain amount of wonsam and danryeong around and would loan it for a day to the couple getting married. After the ceremony, the clothes and accessories were given back to the local officials to be distributed again to another couple. Dressing themselves in such expensive fabrics and dyes plus wearing the hats, wigs, pins, jewelry, and shoes, with the horse and servant procession, was a great honor and a once-in-a-life-time moment. Even to this day, purple wonsam and danryeong is still worn in traditional Korean weddings. Another use for the purple danryeong, as used by court officials, was for mourning.
Just to show how incredibly different natural Korean purple was to the synthetic dye that was introduced to the peninsula, here are a few pictures. Notice how this purple is more blue in color and that all of the dates from these examples range from the 19th century to the 20th century. All of these articles are from the upper class because they were the first to get their hands on the novel synthetic dyes brought from the West. It would take decades before every day people could afford to wear and buy purple. Granted, I cannot 100% confirm that the items below were dyed using synthetic dyes or if they were the result of a new dyeing technique. However, their color is clearly different from earlier examples of natural plant dye and I’m not sure whether they can be achieved naturally. What do you think?

…And that concludes my useless trivia moment. Next time you see a purple hanbok in a historical drama that makes your corneas burn from the sheer saturation, you can think back to this post and wonder why on God’s name they decided to go for that color and suffer as much as I do ☺️. Hope you left this post having learned something new or not as bored as when you started reading.

TWST Heartslaybul with an s/o who is a tea master (without Adeuce combo)
Recently I’ve been reading a book called “Wabi Sabi” by an author named Beth Kempton. Anyways, to summarize it, the book is about living perfectly in an imperfect life. One thing that stood out to me were the tea masters in Japan. You can go check it out if you want to. A tea master is someone who, well is great at serving tea, and they go by a style during tea ceremony called “wabi-cha”, meaning roughly “simplicity”, “quietude” , “a sense of peace”. Okay, enough with my rambling, and on with the headcanon!
Riddle Rosehearts
He’s so interested
People could actually graduate from such an odd but beautiful occupation?
How fascinating.
He heard that is actually pretty hard to become a tea master.
You need to complete a 1 modules-plus self study in order to receive certification, and then be qualified as a tea sommelier, be expected to go to at least one tea estate during their study period.
He’s just so amazed.
You must have been a child genius in tea because you have already graduated.
He’s also amazed by the sense of peace you have.
You always seem to have limitless amounts of patience with the troublesome Adeuce combo, and remain calm in serious situations.
You also seem to appreciate the little things in life, and you are almost grateful and thankful for the major and minor things in your life.
He wants to be like you!
Truthfully, he wants to control his temper, but we all know how he’s like when one rose is not painted red.
His face would go redder than a sappan wood tea.
He feels a sense of peace when he comes to your dorm (Ramshackle) to visit you when he’s just pissed which is 99.99% of the time and just having a bad day in particular.
The whole cleaning up the Ramshackle mess was really cleaning shit up.
Cuz damn’
He feels like he stepped into some sort of shrine with all the trees you plant from organic science, or you created in alchemy class.
He loves the tea you brew and is always looking forward to every visit.
Also could you brew some tea for the unbirthday parties? Don’t worry, you’re invited-
Trey Clover
Oh wow
Okay,
He didn’t know people could graduate from studying and serving tea-
That’s just-
So odd.
And he didn’t know it’s hard to become a tea master-
Like damn-
You must’ve started from a really young age to graduate and become a tea master at such a young age.
Hmmmm
Would you like to make tea for the unbirthday parties Riddle throws out?
You can use your tea magic to make him
ya know
less grumpy-
Because you’re tea is just really earthy or warm
It really calms the soul.
One time he came to Ramshackle to give you a cake in thanks for calming Riddle with your    t e a-
And wow,
He felt like he walked into a shrine.
Bamboo shoots, Lilac trees, wait- how tf do you have a maple tree??
Well it doesn’t matter-
Cuz now he finds you in a slightly empty room, the only thing he saw is an chabana and kougou, with whatever calligraphy that was on the wall.
Simple and peaceful.
“Ah, Trey! Would you like to have some tea? I’m making a special blend of gyokuro green tea!”
Oh my lord
Cake and tea??
Yea he sitting on those tatami floor did u ask Crowli to install these???
He feels so calm. Like all his stress and worries were gone.
And he was just so amazed how you were so patient and generous, and how grateful and thankful you were for everyone’s company in NRC although Ace might be a little shit
He really admires that about you.
Also about the next unbirthday party-
Cater Diamond
I think he went to Ramshackle because he heard from Trey you did a pretty neat organizing with the place-
And he was like “ooh, I wanna see-”
So now he’s at Ramschakle.
Or is he??? This looks like a centuries temple???
*this is going on magicam alright-*
So he snapped a pic, and went in.
Then he found you in some dull but well furnished room.
Making...tea?
“Oh! Hello Cater! I was just making some hojicha, would you like some as well?”
Oh well, yeah, sure, why not?
Cater has always admired the fact that you were another person who knows how to calm Riddle down.
You’re very patient, and you were just grateful for everything in your life, no matter how big or small.
Alright anyways-
The t e a
About to snap a picture before you stop him.
“Ah, Cater. Do you mind if you put your phone away?”
WHAT
WHyY
“Because you won’t enjoy the tea better if you don’t admire the surrondings or tranquility in the area.”
At first he was sad, but you allowed to take one more photo because he’s cute and he hesitantly gave his phone to you.
He’s assuming it’s in safe hands because it’s with you-
Right???
Don’t worry it is-
You then were making the tea for him.
How the hell do you know which utensil to use??? And why are there so many???
You explained to him you grew up learning and living with tea for your whole life. Your entire life was revolved around becoming a tea master.
And you were actually the youngest to become one.
WOw
He didn’t know that.
Well, he really does admire what you did with Ramshackle
And he enjoys your company as well <3

Some Cielonica shipping meme I did!
I was lazy so for the portraits I used the art I commissioned from my friend @toivoshi! (Please check them, they do amazing art and has a super cool ongoing comic series!!)
Links to templates! First (originally posted by senaizuuchan) || Second || Third and Fourth
Note: I changed the second template’s “Screams at bugs” to “Scoops bugs and throws them away” and also added a horse into the driver part since this is Fire Emblem, baybee!!
Also, more talk about these memes under the cut!!
General Ship Meme Stuff
Height Ciela has already stopped growing for a long time. Her height capped at 158 cm/5'1" feet while Veronica keeps on growing. She will eventually outgrow Ciela (maybe she'd hit somewhere 170 or even 175).
Age I never decided on their age. All I know is just Brave!Veronica (I will write as Beronica from now on) is older than Princess Veronica (just Veronica if I write her more) because she seems more mature and more stable as a person. I HC-ed that Veronica is somewhere at 13~16 y.o. while Beronica is at 18 ~ early 20s y.o. and Thrasir is already at mid 20s (maybe 26~27). Ciela in my mind has always been the age of uni/college student, or a fresh graduate who's struggling to find jobs in the world. Her background is still very much vague so I never really thought much about her age.
Falling in love Ciela is very much easily attracted to people, esp those who makes her feel really good. Her romantic disposition usually doesn't stop at anyone w/ feminine tendencies, but she just feels far more comfortable around those who identifies as female, due to multiple reasons. She doesn't mind guys in general, but they just don't get her going. Anyway, she fell in love with Beronica literally at first sight.
Beronica, due to her position, lived a more isolated life, and also is more wary of people in general. There is a limited number of people who she trusts. I HC-ed that she doesn't have much great experience with males (cause iirc her dad was a bastard) except those who she viewed with more brotherly or platonic view like her own brother or Xander. She's most likely a lesbian but also a demiromantic at the same time. Took her a while to develop her feelings towards Ciela, but after that, she's like a car without brakes.
Relationship experience Ciela had been in relationship w/ some guys before she realized she's not really into them. She never really hooked up with any girls because of some prejudice about same sex relationship where she came from, so Beronica is literally her first lesbian partner.
As mentioned above, Beronica lived quite in more isolation so she never really had any romantic relationship experience beyond the formality. She’s not awkward at them however, due to all the manners and diplomatic lessons she received. (And Beronica does have that different streaks of confidence than Veronica. The way they talk is vastly different, with Beronica showing more confidence and is more demanding in tone compared to Veronica’s more flat and reserved tone).
Affections/PDA/Protectiveness Once Beronica enters a serious relationship with Ciela (post their support thing you can read here), Beronica shows Ciela tons of affections and lavishes her with love as she realizes how great of a person Ciela is, and is a bit in a way to repay her for everything she did. Bero doesn't hestitate to hold her hand, hugs her, or even treats potential Ciela courters with much cold or threatening gaze. She'd leave "marks" on Ciela's body but since Ciela dresses very modestly, there's just no room for that, lmao. Fortunately, Bero can show great degree of professionality as a hero first and foremost and not terribly possessive in "you can't interact with people but me" way, since she understands that Ciela is a very important person in the Order of Heroes. She also trusts Ciela enough because she knows Ciela isn't really attracted to anyone else but Bero really.
Ciela mostly have treated Vero the same since the beginning. She did show a great deal of attention towards Beronica to fight off the Embla curse and for everything else really (since she was the fool who fell in love first). She's more reserved in showing her affection since she's a little shyer at times, and a bit bad at words, but she can also be clingy to Beronica, and never minds the affectionate PDA thing Beronica do to her. She also knows that Beronica is rarely ever interested in anyone else but her so things are really bueno for them.
Pet Names They call each other "my beloved" or "dearly beloved". Ciela has a secret nickname for Bero that is "Ronnie", but she uses it more privately because some early heroes who knew about this often teases them about it. They don't have other "silly" pet names because they're just that type of straightforward couple hahah.
Bonus: an alternate versison of Ciela who used to be Thrasir's SO called Thrasironica with the nickname of "night charm" and "night sky". In return, Thrasir called her "thunder" or "paradise". Both pet names are references to some important symbols in their relationship (that are quite different from present Ciela and Beronica).
Smaller stuff/trivias
“Scoops bugs and throws them away” was changed from “screams at bugs” because both Ciela and Beronica thankfully aren't afraid at bugs. They have different level of fascination towards it and behaves really differently. However, Ciela is more pacifist in her approach when dealing with pests while Beronica is more straightforward to kill.
Beronica being a princess once made her very sloppy at doing chores and cookings (I'll talk about this in the food section). She's doing her best, but ultimately Ciela or other heroes prefer to do it on their own most of the time. Beronica is good at keeping her stuff organized at least. They’d still let her do polishing or weapon maintenance since she’s very meticulate and careful. They will also let her do the horse care duty since she’s good with them.
On driving - Beronica has a very loyal horse named Randgridr (whom I don't talk about enough) so she's very good at dealing with animals in general and has great mastery on working with them. In modern AU, this just means she'd get her license as early as she could and just go everywhere with the car she owns. She's also not a clumsy driver. - Ciela eventualy gets to have a falicorn of her own (a black falicorn named Benthe whom she and Bero found when they both ran away to the mountain when Anna declared beach day) so she'd get a mastery on working with mounted animals. In modern AU, she's probably that person who has driving license but doesn't really drive unless she really has to.
On sleeping habit - Ciela is very much a night owl and has hard time getting up in the morning. She often misses roll call and at this point most people in Order of Heroes already accepted this and can proceed business as usual without her.  - Veronica is also a night owl, but this derives from her often having nightmares due to the Curse of Embla. Once meeting Ciela, her sleep quality actually improves a lot - Sometimes they do a lot of “things” at night to tire themselves out and helps them falling asleep better.
Food Meme Stuff
I imagined both of them aren't very picky eaters. Bero maybe so in the beginning, but being a royal, I imagined she has great palate and experience with foods, and was able to help improve the flavor of foods in the Order via her feedback. She generally eats anything as long as they're prepared properly. She also understand the importance of eating well being a soldier herself.
Ciela isn't picky because of her previous background not letting her eat as much as she wants so she's always eager on trying something new. She became good at cooking solely for the reason of feeding herself and some people who lived with her at some point.
Favorite Food/Drinks
Ciela likes food that tastes great both hot and cold, but she has more tongue to eat more "refreshing" food. Maybe she used to live in a tropical country...
Bero is a meat lover. She loves them anyhow they're cooked, but she mostly likes them roasted or made into meatballs and served with some juicy and sour berry sauce or jam to balance the fatty flavor.
I don't know how to describe "herbal soft drinks" better than it does, but basically soft drinks are sort of any drinks that is meant to be enjoyed lightly as opposed to alcoholic drinks, right? (though they are mostly being used to refer to carbonated drinks). So one day I had the chance to eat at an international restaurant in a hotel and for the local menu, they have these selection of "soft drinks" that are basically combination of herbs and fruits and woods that are just so??? good??? They're clear colored (some red, some green, depending on the ingredients) so maybe they're like infused drinks or filtered juice(?), and one of my favorite has peppermint, ginger, sappan wood, and lime in it. It is served cold and is also sweet (maybe they added sweetener to it). So I imagined Bero would like to drink these refreshing drinks because they taste great and possibly has great benefits for health too since they're mostly from natural ingredients.
On Cafe Drinks
I HC-ed that in Zenith, Askr grows tea while Embla grows coffee. This makes for the reason why Askrans like to drink tea a lot and Veronica in one of the FEH comic is clueless about tea brewing.
This reflects on Bero's choice of caffeine drink. She doesn't mind tea but more used to coffee. She usually takes them plain or just with milk or cream.
Ciela prefers tea because she just doesn't like the flavor of coffee. She prefers her tea chilled though. She drinks boba or jelly drink back in her world.
On Alcoholic Drinks
I think both Ciela and Bero are very modest drinker, as in they won't drink unless it's for someone else or for any important occassion.
Ciela is a moderate drinker. She holds herself very well and will definitely stop before she gets drunk and totally lose herself. When drunk however, she will get very "proper" and apologetic. She will get sad and apologize a lot, letting out much of her inner worries, and probably also auto pilots herself to properly tidy herself before she fell asleep. Some people enjoys her drunken state because finally they'll be able to find out more about her since Ciela keeps to herself most of the time.
Beronica if drunk gets on the pretty happy but sarcastic side like suddenly her words became much sharper (and honest) while she says it in very smiley face or her normal tone. She also gets far more daring. Her auto-pilot mode isn't as great as Ciela's however.
On Food
Living in Order of Heroes, everyone gets to eat properly and equally due to the strict living schedule, though Ciela gets to skimp on that sometimes since she often misses breakfast. The heroes often save an easy to eat breakfast for her so she can eat them during meetings or study or chores.
Ciela eats quite a lot. Nobody knows where all those extra calories goes. Most guesses it goes to her brain and her tiddies.
Veronica loves spicy food and Ciela can't stand them so much. She has a tongue that's pretty sensitive to the spice that'll numb her tongue and make her unable to taste anything else. It mostly saddens her because she thinks it's a great flavor and makes food exciting.
Ciela loves her sweets and bakes or cooks to feed herself. Veronica is more moderate on it, but she'd take some sweet-savory snack for herself.
That’s all for now?? If I missed anything, feel free to ask!!
Thanks for reading uwu)b
