Scenes from my first AI art exhibition #Hyperborea, coming to @javajoessantafe in December! Just a taste...the show will feature 30 upscaled and edited #visions of #LostCivilizations and #faerie cities based on pages from my 2018 #FutureFossils coloring book, remixed in #Midjourney with #inspiration from #retroscifi book covers and album art. The pandemic and its aftermath have nitro-boosted my #fantasy gland and dunked me into a constant meditation on what lies beyond. And I've had an amazing time since January exploring #AIArtwork and what it means for the evolution of the creative workflow and economy...this show is intended to provoke the #SantaFeArt scene into having a bigger conversation about how to see these controversial technologies as part of a continuous and long-unfolding process of innovation, discovery, and the exploration of the #imagination or #AdjacentPossible — how this metamorphosis, while daunting, doesn't have to be a fearful change but can empower a new platform for the human spirit to express itself and make us more capable aesthetic technicians, in keeping with the premodern and much longer history of religious art and artifice. Opening on Friday October 21st 5-8pm Keep Contemporary 142 Lincoln Ave. Santa Fe, NM This one has been a really bumpy ride but inspide of all the troubles along the way and thanks to all the support from my closest friends and the Keep Contemporary staff I'm happy to share with all of you THE OFFERING "A civilization that denies death ends up denying life" Octavio Paz The offering is one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Mexican culture, the construction of altars dedicated to the dead has its origins in pre-Hispanic times, when despite the great diversity of ethnic groups, a worldview was shared in relation to death. It was believed that when they died, we would all begin an arduous four-year journey, during which they had to cross the nine levels of the underworld until they reached the Mictlan, where the souls of the deceased could reside permanently and once there they were allowed to visit the world of the living once a year. That is why the Day of the Dead is such an important, joyful and long-awaited celebration for every Mexican, it is an opportunity to reestablish a bond, share and celebrate once again with our loved ones who have already left. However, the trip from the Mictlan is not an easy thing either, and it is the duty of the living to help the deceased find their way home. Each element of the offering fulfills a specific function either to assist souls in their journey or to represent an aspect of life that was left behind. The light of a candlelight helps the deceased find his way while reminding him of the warmth of life itself. The offering is the reunion with a ritual that summons memory. Some shots from The Santa Fe Art Institute, my home for the following few months, while on my Fulbright fellowship in the US.

I’m so beyond honored and grateful to be now part of the institute’s list of very notable Visiting Artists, including Richard Diebenkorn, John Baldessari, Helen Frankenthaler, Vito Acconci, Judy Chicago, Lee Mullican, Susan Rothenberg, Nathan Oliveira, Elizabeth Murray, Joel-Peter Witkin, Harmony Hammond, and Coco Fusco, among many others.

@santafeartinstitute is located on unceded lands that are the traditional territories of the Pueblo peoples, and it’s extraordinary facility is designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta.
