ART OF PAPER GROUP EXHIBITION

Laura Rathe Fine Art announces Art of Paper, an exciting group exhibition featuring new works from fifteen national and international contemporary artists, including Carly Allen Martin, Miriam Fitzgerald Juskova, Karen Hawkins, Zhuang Hong Yi, Gary Komarin, Anna Kruhelska, Robert Mars, Don Morris, Charles Patrick, Meredith Pardue, Javier Leon Perez, Kandis Susol, Nina Tichava, Cecil Touchon, and James Verbicky. LRFA will be hosting the opening reception on Saturday, June 24 from 4:30-7:30pm.

 A common bond that holds the power to connect one to all, paper historically existed as a foundation of communication and creativity. Art of Paper brings together a group of artists that are focused on elevating the often-overlooked material. Whether gestural or structured, calculated or organic, each of the featured artists’ work highlights a veritable chameleon of media possibilities. These artists expand on the medium’s creative potential through sequenced architectural wall reliefs, encaustic sculptures, biomorphic patterns, repurposed ephemera, and rhythmic compositions. Paper, for all its fibrous strength, is capable of mesmerizing feats of elasticity.

 Art of Paper will be on display through August 19, 2023.

 Fucking Flowers takes the art historical trope of still-life genre painting to new extremes. Featuring a bouquet of 10+ artists including Elizabeth Alexander, Marc Dennis, Andrew Jensdotter, Daisy Patton, Nina Tichava, Angel Ricardo Ricardo Rios, and Francisco Souto, the exhibition spans materials and styles with an array of mixed media art that ranges from the representational to the conceptual. This brazen, fun, spring-with-an-edge show is the antidote to a burly winter.

 For thousands of years, flowers have been potent symbols in the visual and literary arts carrying coded meanings.  Whether representing different gradations of love, purity, fecundity, spirituality, or decay, flowers show up at life’s most poignant occasions (births, weddings, deaths).  They infiltrate fashion and décor and can be noxious or curative, fragrant or carnivorous.  Inevitably, flowers begin by seducing us with their beauty.  Fucking Flowers aims to do the same – seducing viewers with astonishing aesthetics into having more nuanced conversations about the nature of beauty, metaphor, exoticism, social justice, and human behavior.

Power pose in an art studio (aka my favorite place)💪✨ I’m coming up on my last month in this sweet Austin studio, and I’m savoring the days here 💘 this residency has been an intentional reset and time for healing a broken heart/fractured life; it has also been an opportunity to recover from the busiest and hardest years of my career. I think so many of us were hammered by the pandemic, in a multitude of ways—you guys, what really happened? I was fearful, and busy, and I did everything I could to cope. Honestly in many ways I flourished. But this weird sense of total whiplash and confusion is at the edges of my psyche (like: are we ok? Am I ok?). I don’t have an answer yet, but I’m still asking myself and the universe some big, big questions and spending extra time listening for the answers. Tenth Anniversary group exhibition

Marking its tenth year in the Dallas Design District, Laura Rathe Fine Art is pleased to present DECADE, a group anniversary exhibition commemorating the gallery’s history and celebrating an exciting future ahead. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, February 18, from 4:30-7:30pm. 

 Laura Rathe started her career working as a private art dealer before establishing Laura Rathe Fine Art (LRFA) in 1998 in Houston, Texas. In 2013, Rathe, with the help of Gallery Director, Janice Meyers, opened LRFA's second gallery in Dallas on Dragon Street, further expanding the institution's presence in Texas. Since then, LRFA Dallas has helped foster the city’s remarkable art community. As a woman-owned, women-run business, LRFA has continually built platforms for artists, watching them rise and push the bounds of the world of contemporary art. Rathe and her team’s unorthodox approach to creating conduits within the art world has supported her vision of enriching lives through art, cultivating personal relationships with each artist, client, and designer. 

 DECADE honors this incredible journey in Dallas through a breadth of stylistic approaches and innovative media by notable artists from around the world such as James Verbicky, Audra Weaser, Gian Garofalo, Matt Devine, Stallman Studio, Zhuang Hong Yi, Hunt Slonem, Lucrecia Waggoner, Nina Tichava, Meredith Pardue, Carly Allen Martin and many more. This February, LRFA is also delighted to introduce Linling Lu, Marcos Anziani, Lynn Sanders, Ian Rayer-Smith and Kandis Susol to Dallas. 

 Through this momentous exhibition, LRFA pays tribute to the past decade, which could not have been possible without the unyielding support of their patrons, the passion and drive from their staff, and of course, the immeasurable talent and unwavering commitment of their artists. 

 DECADE will be on view through March 25, 2023.
