First attempts at something different. As you all know I love #experimenting with different #materials and for the last few months I’ve really been wanting to@play with #sand. #coloredsand in particular. To be honest, colored sand has kinda held my interest since my college hosted a group of Buddhist monks to craft a #mandala for a week (I do have pics much, much further down). But, for some reason, sand is freakin expensive for the amount you get!!!🤯 I had found a couple at @dollartree but that selection was limited. Recently I found @justartifacts which had great selection packs of colors for a really good price (about $12 for 10colors, a great price). I ended up getting most of them [as you can see from the last pic🤫]. From Andrew's Hometown Finally! The book that needed to be written on one of the most astounding artists of all time. I live in his home town of McGregor, Iowa and work for the McGregor Historical Museum. I have been introducing people to Andrew Clemens and his wonderful sand art for years and every time I show people his work and explain to them that there is nothing in the bottle but sand, they go immediately from mildly interested to amazed because they thought that it was just pictures on paper with sand behind them. When you realize that the beautiful pictures are done completely in sand with nothing to hold them together, you can't help but be in awe. I often say that if Michelangelo were to see one of Andrew's bottles, even he would have been amazed, because he could never have done what Andrew did so incredibly. The book covers the life of a rather obscure folk artist by the name of Andrew Clemens who created the most amazing pieces of Sand Art. What astounded me was how Andrew Clemens who lived in the late 19th century and who was both deaf and unable to speak could have created such amazing works of art that to this day no one in the world has been able to replicate. In fact, accept for the renaissance artist Michelangelo, there have been very few artists in history who no other artist has been able to duplicate their art work. I found Andrew Clemen's story an inspiration in that he had no formal education and was both deaf and unable to speak. The author did a great job in conveying the feel of the time period as well as doing a great job documenting Andrew Clemen's amazing sand bottles through the voluminous number of very nice colored photos. It is about a late 19th century artist by the name of Andrew Clemens who created the most amazing sand art bottles that I have ever seen. Andrew Clemens lived in the late 18th century and he not only had no formal education but was also both deaf and unable to speak. A most inspirational story and artist. Andrew Clemens sand bottles are so amazing that no one has ever been able to replicate his work. There are very few artists in history that can claims this (the Italian renaissance artist, Michelangelo being one of the few). The author did a great job conveying the feel of the time period and provided a voluminous number of colored photos that catalogue the many still surviving sand bottles.
