Some of my thoughts after rereading the A3! prologue:

Resisting every urge to point out interesting things I'm noticing in A3EN's localization of the prologue with 3.5 more years of Japanese knowledge, this is a reading club, not a translation club

Why is this the only instance of pink text in the game? I think it's really funny how they highlighted important lines in pink here and then proceeded to never do that again

Logistically I know it was only done here as a way of introducing the player to things and it has no real place anywhere else in the story, but it's still funny

I love how you can tell from this very first interaction between Tasuku and Haruto, and then between Haruto and Tsuzuru, that Godza is a kinda messy environment behind the scenes

In retrospect, this was so fucked up of Izumi's mom (I didn't think anything of it back then, but with the knowledge I have now... whew)

I think it's so interesting that Sakoda was able to get a permit for the backhoe? It's something so small but I think it's fun how we see here that he has the skill needed to safely operate heavy machinery even though he's often seen as someone who isn't good at much of anything, so it really just comes down to his life circumstances more than his actual ability (I mean the kid's just being taught to read at a third grade level, and it's not his fault)

The way Sakyo implies there have been other plays recently?? If this is Sakuya's first show, how did those work?

Oh Sakuya sounds so awkward it's hard to watch. Shoutout to Sakai for achieving that

Izumi's thoughts as she watches Sakuya perform hit different knowing about her own failures and experiences with theater

This line always, always gets me. Hard work alone doesn't amount to crap in this world. It never did for him. His mother worked so hard and yet they were poor, he worked hard and could never achieve his own goals... hard work never earned him anything. If it did, maybe he could've stood on this stage, too. Maybe Mankai wouldn't have reached this point. Maybe we wouldn't be here.

Honestly, everything here shows how much Sakyo loves Mankai and how hurt he is too

This conversation between Sakyo and Matsukawa is so much, they both care so much about the theater but Matsukawa is so desperately latching onto it while Sakyo has resigned himself to its fate, he's all but given up (just like he has on himself lol <- in pain)

Oh boy Yukio mention (the way he haunts the narrative is so much)

It's funny that Sakyo takes that jab at Matsukawa for wanting to lean on Yukio and count on him to single-handedly save Mankai, considering what he just said about hard work. If Yukio can't be relied on as the "savior" of Mankai (all the actors need to come back and everything needs to be the way it was before) and hard work alone won't do it either... he really has lost hope

Sakyo is Not taking this (meanwhile, Matsukawa...) I do appreciate how he still gave her a chance though, however small it was

Honestly I feel bad for Matsukawa here, knowing how he's been trying so desperately just to keep the troupe afloat for eight years even though it clearly hasn't been going well

Obviously there was no way to fit this into the English localization, but I love how Sakuya introduces himself and then tells Izumi how to spell his name in kanji because of the many different ways it can be written (花の咲くの咲也です！)

I also really appreciate Izumi as a character and how real she feels right from the very beginning, from her interest in theater to her hammy acting to her quick thinking skills

Matsukawa you've been at this for years... (also I'm curious about Izumi's old troupe)

I didn't care much for Sakuya when I first read this story, but knowing all that I do about him now, this is all so endearing... he's so sweet in how he's comforting Izumi and checking in on her (and his whole thing about not wanting to lose the troupe hurts)

I honestly think there's so much to be said about Masumi's character right from the beginning, like with him repeatedly asking how his acting was

Tsuzuru the biggest "struggling uni student" mood

Oh Masumi's line about just taking anyone hits so different in Japanese... Maybe I'm just not as good at picking up on certain types of slang and innuendo, but his wording is so much more... questionable in Japanese, that double meaning cannot be ignored.

Oh god I'm thinking about the A3 timeline again. I will once again try to push it back into the furthest depths of my mind because there clearly is no such thing as "time" in this universe and trying to figure it out has given me headaches before.

heyy icha!! started up autumn, it’s fun!! got through the first 16 chapters and decided it was time to pause so here’s my thoughts.

I was very surprised by the random guy azami called during summer act 2, but actually it is just. idk. shift is cool. you can absolutely Hear the way azami’s voice gets lighter and looser when they chat. it’s wonderful. actually hugeee props to azami’s voice actor—I feel like soo much of azami’s character is inherent in his voice? like he’s kind of muted in subtle in the way that he talks which is kinda hard to convey with text only, because he’s Also sharp-tongued so if you’re only looking at the text, it’s a bit hard to notice he’s actually kinda… quiet? anyways I like shift it’s nice that azami just has a like. Normal Friend yknow? and shifts family seems cool too. so I’m glad that azami at least has like, an example of a healthy kind of family dynamic and stuff.

anyways. the way u could hear a pin drop when azami says hes gonna join akigumiz rly unfortunate he announced it AFTER sakoda announced the boss was trying to get him back. since like. uh. hed decided it beforehand, anyways. through kumons suggestion. at first I was a bit like cmon sakyo… you’re gonna send that kid back to his dad? homophobia. however the fact that he 100% called it regarding azami making something up for his portrait is so funny like ah. he was correct there.

like banri I also think azami is good for autumn so someone can bicker with sakyo. the way they just started physically brawling was so fun but what was funnier was omi breaking up the fight with the same level of casualness he broke up banri and juzas fighting. it’s like… these r not even two rowdy teens anymore. sakyo is 31. love that for him tho.

banri is also being such a good leader. checking in with azami and helping him with his portrait thing. his collage? reminded him of how he advised yuki in into the night. he feels reliable now, which is cool? anyways yeah he help. it was nice to see him tell azami abt the previous autumn exploits. the rookie introduction is rly such a good mechanic… it’s like. new chara for one. but bc they have to be introduced to the troupe it’s such a good way of bringing up past themes naturally and then having the opportunity to develop them further. anyways it’s nice to see autumn like. Bonding. I’m sooo invested in that one scene where azami tells omi not to bring him stuff like scones.

sakyo: “I practically raised him”

me: ah. *horrible impression of sakyo* hmph. I’m not the step dad, I’m the dad that stepped up.

this is a total shot in the dark but I have this like feeling that azami, during this story, is going to cry. Loudly. and I’m going to tear up abt it. we shall see.

kumon and muku being like angel devil fairies was SO CUTE. their voices especially!! like the way kumon has to quiet down his voice by a lot lol. anyways it was sooo lovely. I loved how it paralleled what natsugumi did to help out kumon. and I especially liked!! kumon bursts out laughing when natsugumi does their girls thing but here azami doesn’t like actually Laugh™ at all, but you can hear the laughter in his voice? it’s so cool.

I liked azamis audition portrait. the fact that he’s unable to give up his makeup is so good, and I really loved the convo he had with kazunari later, where kazunari pointed out that his family and makeup might be both so important to him that he’s unable to simply give one up… it’s nice, seeing characters give advice. but yeah azami. I am Looking at the part where he’s like oh I can give u makeovers but I’m kinda new with all this stuff, because all my old stuff is broken. and the way that he refuses to show them what he looks like wearing normal makeup…? I’d bet both of those r related to his dad who is not sakyo.

like oh my god the “…” from azami while izumi says she needs a parent/guardian permission. and then sakyo says like “I’m basically his guardian” and then azami going “…!” like oh u Know azami had that moment of uncertainty like. man… sakyo hates me anyways is he gonna send me back. like it’s just like… Telling he asks tsuzuru to cast sakyo as the villain of the story. when I saw that scene I was like ohhhh sorry azami. you’ve just given tsuzuru something terrible: personal info abt yourself. you realize he’s absolutely going to make u confront stuff with his play right. actually I did watch the play and. it’s very the stranger esque in that they’re all like. we live in a doomed apocalypse. I am a unique existence with it but this gift of mine will never be imparted unto others. still we shall live. as the only two real people. some people r beyond saving. like tsuzuru is so weirdly depressing during these plays. I respect that. and I was right bc he did throw in an emotional dad scene.

azamis such a professional middle schooler. like the makeup and also writing for a site. I loveee seeing azuma and yuki bond with him. let’s gooo. yuki and azami teaming up for budget is awesome. they’re actually just a great duo together. like first off the fact that they’re two middle schoolers who can seemingly put the fear of god in anyone is so choice. I loved seeing how professionally they worked during that fashion show. and banri modeled too! made me have feelings abt into the night again lol. also that azami scene was so good! like u said, the rookie cg in act 2 really showcases the relevant character well… the whole school festival was just nice. kazunaris talk with azami was rly cool ofc and the whole like. way azami is like ah. once I’m in high school I probably can’t do anything… and the little detail that both tenma and misumi haven’t ever been to a school festival is so like. wow. they’ve been denied a lot of “normal life” things bc of different reasons and now they get to experience them! idk it makes the fact that misumi treats tenma like his younger brother all the more heartwarming.

loved the whole thing where they discussed themes for the autumn troupe play. like juza talking abt like frilly gowns and grand staircases and when banris like wtf he’s like what? you think I can’t do it? get this guy in a dress for real.

they eventually settled on the undead / zombie theme but like… when taichi suggested visual kei tsuzuru actually didn’t seem too against is sooo. what I’m saying is. a3 autumn does a version of zombieland saga. I’ve never seen that show but it’s abt zombie musicians right. speaking of tsuzuru I love that he just passed out between a door so he didn’t hit his head. that’s like a skill.

the whole kindergarten thing was so cute. like the animal costumes… I saw omi and squinted like. wait oh my god is he in a WOLF costume!! and he was!!! I think that’s like. So Cute. like can I imagine autumn sitting around those costumes picking and someone’s like well, omi, this one’s kinda like, your name…. from personal experience tho there r absolutely kids who would see juza and stuff and be like oh my god he’s so cool I’m gonna follow him forever. but the animal costumes were a smart choice. and hey now they have em for free! more things to haunt tsuzuru with <3 when I first saw them I immediately thought of. yknow the volume 3 extras of gsnk where nozaki wears that bear costume and does judo. I love that bit. the voice acting for the section was so good tho like juza is kinda stilted taichi is kinda nervous and banri sounds extremely breezy abt the whole thing bc hes banri and can pull it off.

I rly liked both taichi and juza’s collages abt running away but to me it’s like. So Funny. how taichi and juza r like “I promised I’d be a better person from then on… and when I’m a better person I’ll…” or something like that and then when azamis like soooo how about now they’re like ah… I’m not nearly good enough yet. like i get why they r still uncomfortable with themselves but from personal experience like. reaching for an idealized self that u have to get to First before you’re Allowed to do things is like… not good. anywyas to me it’s rly funny that like azamis reaction to both of these has been kind of like “um okay? why are u still worried about that loser.” (he’s much less harsh abt it I just think this phrasing is funnier)

azamis response to taichi asking him abt his love life, tho… ”k-kiss? that’s for after marriage!” like oh my god u have to introduce her to parents, date, get engaged, and THEN you hold hands? and taichi being like. did sakyo teach you that…? personally I think azami managed that level of repression all on his own. like honestly tho for him the “introduce to parents” is probably a pretty. terrifying step so I can see why he’d be hesitant.

oh I wanted to talk abt juzas portrait. first of all him jumping in as a bodyguard to azami was so nice. the power of his glare alone! I know we haven’t seen omi or sakyo do a boyhood collage yet but I have to imagine that like midway thru juzas collage azami is squinting at autumn like… is this secretly a troubled kids home? is it like just normal to run away from home once, statistically? anyways juzas both correct in that u can learn to avoid fights but azamis also correct in that like. what’s he gonna do. let those guys kick the shit out of him?

but anyways juzas portrait made me tear up. like the. the. ”Kumon’s nothing like me. He ain’t big or bulky, and he’s like a ray of sunshine. Everybody loves him. He even cares about me.” LIKE FIRST OFF IM GOING TO CRY… JUZA…. second off the way I literally wrote “If there was ever a human embodiment of sunshine…” in my fic abt kumon. me and juza mind meld. jk this is such an obvious description that I think anyone reading through summertime survival strikes back would be like oh yeah this guys like sunshine.

but the way that like. all juza did was get picked on by a bully, glared at him, and then the bully stepped back and fell off the stairs? and juza stayed frozen in place instead of running bc he. I dunno. felt guilty probably? or just terrified bc oh my god the injuries… like even in this collage he describes the whole thing as a “mistake” on his part even tho it’s like. he didn’t do anything!! and then his mother had to apologize for him too… I love that she was angry on his behalf tho. hyodo mom I love you. and it was so nice that they found him bc it was the place where kumon played catch with him.

anyways I loved that the lil detail of like, tsuzuru visiting his family to explain why spring and winter weren’t at the festival like. was used to effectively to bring up zafra and stuff. I think it’s cool that tsuzuru recognized that it looked similar to citron’s stuff! like even tho tsuzuru is so exasperated with him he always seems to like. know the word citron wants to say and like. Pays Attention it’s nice. also when tsuzuru was like “I spent the whole time cleaning” I was just like ah. oh my god. if spring troupe ever leads tsuzuru on a play again… cinderella is right there. citron as Prince Charming ofc. masumi as an evil stepmother bc I think the drama of that role will be good for him in that it’s kinda a little silly and grand. he can’t rly cool guy his way out of it. like probably this won’t happen bc we already got a play with tsuzuru and citron as lead and co-lead but I can like, dream. it would overlap pretty hard with clockwork heart anyways bc I imagine the whole miracle vibes of cinderella would make tsuzuru have mizuno feelings again. but like hey. could be a fun fan-creation.

anyways zafra…. just wanna say I’d had it in my head that citron was a runaway prince since like. act 1 of spring when he said he ran from his country soooo… not gonna be like I called it but I called it!! tho I think this was kind of an easy guess lol. like when he’s all monarchy hater in alex in wonderland I think it’s pretty blatant.

uh but chikage said their monarchy has been having issues lately, but tsuzuru was like oh it’s fine. a new king is gonna be crowned in a few months apparently. and when izumi asks if citron is going back he goes “yes. I am… sure I will”

assembling the evidence. chikage would know secret internal details due to the organization, but tsuzuru would only be aware of public facing stuff. so my theory is… citron was a prince of zafra, and he ran away. I think he described himself as like an “eyesore” to the people he ran away from. this caused internal strife within the monarchy bc like. hey who the fuck is gonna inherit now. but seeing that we see guy in one of the event stories go “…citronia” or whatever I fully believe guy like. is citrons retainer or guard or something and is here to bring citron back and put him on the throne. hence why citron is like ah… I’m sure I’ll be at that coronation… because they’re going to coronate ME… and I’m being dragged back there….

the other alternate theory I have is that citrons like part of a succession war. the reason I think this is bc like. it would be a reason for why citron was like I’m an eyesore. also he mentions having three younger brothers during the new years event and says they don’t want to see him again. so citron is just like ha… yeah… sure… I’ll be at the coronation… (I Am Never Going Back) instead. and guy is chasing him to drag him back bc he cares abt him. I bet he’s the guy citron wants to see again. and also the source of that charm citron was staring at.

anyways the base of these two r the same. I’m excited to see what the facts are! I bet that’ll be in winter—it’ll be a fun spin since so much of spring was occupied by winter since hisoka was such a big deal there. and it’ll happen in reverse with citron being a big deal I assume. summer and autumn also have like. kumon and azami so they kind of overlap their seasons too.

anyways obviously this is good setup for winter arc but I think it’s also like. a perfect bit to have in autumn bc like thematically. azami is also struggling with like. inheriting a position he’s on the run from.

Shift does indeed sound very cool!! it makes me so happy how Azami lights up when he's talking to him, you can truly feel how close they are. And you're so right about Azami's voice, and all kudos to his voice actor. I think you sum it up well, he's quiet despite his lines generally being sharp and stuff, and with Shift's phonecalls making him this happy it constrats even more.

AND HELPP. Crazy how at this point it's Chikage's joining that went with the least problem. (not the same as "Chikage staying" which was the core of the issue but you get what i mean.) and DLKFJDLKF yeah Sakyo knows this kid so well. for better or for worse.

ah yeah the true admission fee to Autumn: you need to bicker with Sakyo. This is the new rule. And hey good on Sakyo to remain young like that! Omimi really embracing his place in the Autumn Troupe as the fightbreaker.

BANRIIII he's always so good sobs. It really shows how far he has come on his own and yeah, i can definitely see a bit of how he advised Yuki come out there as well. And it shows also how closely he cares and look out for his troupe now that he can tell all of it to Azami. it's so nice.

And yess god those kids are so cute. Kumon really just learnt from Summer how they made him feel better, and then decided to give it back to others as well. He knows it worked on him!!! it must also works on Azami!!! God this scene is so cute. solidarity!!

Azami's audition was really good and his dilema is really interesting toto go through. I did like Kazunari helping out too. I really like what you say about Azami's makeup stuff and "his dad who's not Sakyo" is such a funny way to talk about his bio dad. get out of the way bio dad you might be the DNA but you're not as dad as Sakyo.

the scene where Azami expects Sakyo to send him back home but Sakyo backs him up is so!! AND "ohhhh sorry azami. you’ve just given tsuzuru something terrible: personal info abt yourself. you realize he’s absolutely going to make u confront stuff with his play right." IM ABSOLUTEY CRYING OVER THIS. so true though. Azami, unknowingly giving Tsuzuru ammo. Tsuzuru: sure :) Everyone at Mankai: oooh boy kid, rookie mistake.

And so true it really is a lot like The Stranger. Also probably something to be said with how in both plays Sakyo plays a father who was doomed to screw his own child over no matter how much he cared about them. And hey Tsuzuru makes it work, and maybe getting depressing in Autumn is kinda the afterfact of having to be so damn silly with Summer. balancing it out.

"AZAMI IS SUCH A PROFESSIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOLER" THIS IS SO ACCURATE HELPP. And yess i love the Fashion Trio. Esp with the whole subtext of Yuki and Azuma's dynamic originally being really like, "Azuma can prove those kids who might be unsure about their future that there is one to be had by still being themselves and enjoying themselves." Azami doesn't need this lesson as much as Yuki but it can still be reassuring. And Yuki and Azami together are a MENACE, SAkyo's greatest nightmare, love that for them. AND YESS GOSHH the modeling thing just sent me right back to Into the Night as well!! DKLJFKDLF i really had the Priviliege of Insight to mention that about the CG, since i know all of them, but yeah, it really showcase them very well. And yeah the school festival was really nice, and it must also have really helped Azami to participate to something so… normal. usual for people his age yaknow? being a Yakuza son probably doesn't make those as usual as it could be otherwise. shoves Azami with Tenma and Misumi gang of "we're going to show them what Normal is or so help us."

GET JUZA A FUCKING DRESS THIS IS A THREAT NOW. i'm still a bit bitter that Banri was the SSR card for the noble-woman dresses event, this should have been Juza's time to shine. Juza KEEPS wanting it SO BAD and Banri keeps shutting him off, why is Banri the one getting the frilly gowns. GET JUZA A DRESS.

isn't Zombieland saga about idols especially? but yes, what works would work, it'd be fun! but i'd love to see a Vkei look, whenever you guys are ready!!! And Tsuzuru truly has a skill at this point rip.

AND YES THE KINDERGARDEN THING WAS SO CUTE. And pleaaase it's so cute i could totally see those kids adoring Juza. Joining Kumon in the Juza fanclub. But yeah the animal costumes were a smart way to make sure the kids would feel safe. And <333 always fan of tormanting Tsuzuru <3 AND HELPP THE GSNK REFERENCE. BEAUTIFUL.

The collages are so good yeah!!! and sobs yeah they're still so uncomfortable with themselves but it's especially striking considering how far those two have come…. esp Taichi who had to run off from the Godza and had to come to term with his spy days, and Juza really going from thinking of himself as an acting lost cause to genuinely managing through his insecurities and inspiring everyone around him. Alas yeah, they both are still so ashamed of who they were and still gunning for so much higher that they don't see that… "“um okay? why are u still worried about that loser.”" LKFJDLKFJDLKFJKLDFJFDFD

AND HELPP. honestly i could see Azami do that all of his own, remember that Sakyo loves romance novels and has no problem sharing them with Muku, so anything about that is fully Azami made. Also very good point about introduce to parents.

Juza <333 always the savior isn't he. AND HELP i could imagine Azami just think that at this point. Probably already clocking "ok i was thinking Omi might be a normal dude but now that i've heard how the whole troupe is i have Doubts." Also for the funfact i have a friend whom i dragged into a3 a bit kicking and screaming, who had a hard time getting too involved but when he related to the charas, he related hard (Itaru and Tenma for instance came to murder him, if that gives any idea). Anyway we went into Autumn, watching the anime, and he was so scared because every single one of them were his type, so he was worried to be emotionally damaged by looking at a mirror, and we finished the chapter and he was like. actually i'm fine. I'm so fine. But he got curious about Azami so we watched Autumn 2. And he was quiet for a long time, going through the collages and stuff. And eventually, i think around the time of Juza's? my friend turned to me and went. "did i ever tell you I once ran away from home." And it was aBSOLUTELY HYSTERICAL he was SO MAD by the end of this chapter, he ended up relating to Azami a litttle too much AND everything that didn't hit hard in the first chapter ended up hitting him hard by the second one. Point is. "is it like just normal to run away from home once, statistically?" it is for punkass troublemakers. not targetting anyone. (also let's talk about how Misumi also ran away from home but only to never come back. Honorary Autumn kid.) AND YEAH both are right. But i love Juza's take away still.

And Juza's portrait was so emotional and how much he cares and wanted to protect Kumon was just so :sob: AND AAHHH You REALLY understand Juza's mind so well that you looked at Kumon and knew exactly how to refer to him the Juza way. (but yes Kumon IS the sunshine itself.) and Juza poor kid. No one ever cut him some slack :( HYODO MOM SO GOOD WE LOVE THE HYODOSAKISAKA HOUSEHOLD IN HERE. But yes sobs Kumon finding him because Juza couldn't help but go to somewhere he probably felt safe to and it meant being safe with his brother…. sioft.

and god yeah the Tsuzuru bits is really cool. I remember in the first Summer chapter my biggest issue with it was how there was so little focus on Spring that it felt like they weren't living in the same place….. and i'm just so glad this was an issue that was never truly repeated, and moment like that showcase it so much. the rookies chapters tends to focus on two troupes at once already (like Awakening Moon was Spring and Winter), but here they still had some focus on non-focus troupe and it's so nice. And i love that it showcases Tsuzuru and Citron's dynamic so well it's so soft. AND HELPPP cinderella play when Tsuzuru, you have it all set up for you!!! And god i love the casting for that. And true for the vibes (note: Sakuya as the Fairy God Mother? baby angel that grant people wishes because he gives them an opportunity to? (like how it's giving the opportunity to keep the theater opened that helped everyone?)). Anyway as a fanplay it works still. Tsuzuru coming to term with his feelings for Mizuno everytime he colead with Citron is really funny tho.

AND HELPP. I still won't say anything for Citron but yeah things are starting to shape up! And oh god Citron's reply to it all huh. God. Anyway interesting theories, obviously i can't comment on them just yet but. interesting!

but yeah the duo season focus is built on each chapters in a sense so Spring will have its time to shine again next chapter. I don't htink it's that much of a spoiler since we do know Guy is looking for Citron, the same way we knew early on Chikage was looking for Hisoka. Something to be said about how Spring and Winter both have their past catching up to them with an acquitance from the past coming back to get you, while Summer and Autumn's main connection is between the two new kids who are starting to get to know one another. (and obviously Kumon-Juza, but i suppose it's also a bit like Azami-Sakyo currently yaknow? family bonds over troupe bonds).

The spring troupe had just finished a run with a local college theatre group, while it was their off season, they all loved the script they were given to work with and Citron had an incredible amount of fun playing the role of a young professor. He absolutely adored the big warm coat that was part of the costume and Yuki practically had to pull it off him at the end of practices. Except for today. Somehow, some way he was able to evade Yuki’s inordinately good tracking skills and was holed up in his room showing you how warm and cozy and swishy the coat was! After twirling in it, Citron gasped as if an entire sun spider was crawling up the door behind you. Before you had a second to see what the hell prompted such a reaction, your boyfriend practically tackled you, to your great confusion.

“Darling, oh I know you’d look so cute in this, please please please put it on??”

Oh. oh no. Citron was doing the one thing you couldn't resist. Puppy dog eyes. Damn him and his cute face.

With only a slightly exasperated sigh, you respond with “ok ok, but only for a minute!! If Yuki finds me and tries to induct me into his society of sewing servants as payback for keeping the coat out of the costume room you have to come to my rescue! Promise?”

“I swear!!!”, ever the dramatic dweeb, your dashing prince kneels down, holding your hand, bringing to mind how he swore his loyalty to you when you first started dating.

With such sweet [and mildly embarrassing thoughts] occupying your mind, you hardly notice how Citron jumps up and draws the coat over your shoulders, cooing at how precious you looked!

this sweet little punk can be so smooth and fluctuate back to his goofball self in less than 0.0005 seconds it’s almost scary

You two were watching a movie together and there was a really cinematic scene where two of the side characters just spent a few minutes dancing together. It didn’t really contribute to the main plot, and neither of the characters had much screen time besides that one scene, but something about it was so real, and so sweet that sakoda was practically melting over it.

Whenever you watch movies with him that he’s already seen he tends to watch your face to see how you react to his favorite moments and oh…,,oh his poor little heart,.,.

The soft, cool light of the small television in his apartment lit up your face in the prettiest way. He could see just how imperceptibly your brows furrowed as you tried to catch a glimpse of a poster in the background, how you grinned from ear to ear as you heard one of the characters told the other a horrendously bad pun, oh god, how you leaned towards the edge of your spot on the sofa, how your hand drifted to rest on his knee when it looked like the characters were about to kiss

He could not stand how sweet you looked

And then when you told him to pause the movie and get his cute ass up he was vv much confused

“Ken, I think I know the song they’re playing! Wait one second…Got it!”

He couldn't help but giggle at how proud of yourself you looked as you dragged him into the centre of the living room, gently pushing aside the box of dvds Sakoda was pawing through earlier with your foot

And when you pressed ‘play’ on your phone and he heard the first few bars of music, when you rushed over to him and clumsily placed one hand on the back of his left shoulder, one hand interlaced with his, and oh god when you started to lead him in a soft little dance around the area rug you two bought last month, he was sure he was the luckiest man alive

The store was owned by this really sweet older couple in the neighborhood who had started dating a few years ago [azuma filled you in on the gossip <3] and you always felt so happy looking into the store every morning as you walked past, with Mr. Hayashi outside, watering the plants, and Mr. Agawa inside, bringing out some baked goods

The only other person in the store at the moment though, was the young woman at the register who seemed to be getting either veryyy antsy or veryyy excited about something. After noticing her looking at you and juza at least 5 times in as many minutes you landed on the assumption that she proooobably figured out you two were on a date

And for some reason she left for the break room

And you could swear the lighting in the store dimmed, even though it was like, 10am and sunny outside

Autumn Troupe Live 2021

This is by far, the HOTTEST troupe performance by far!

Unlike the other troupe lives, Autumn had a live band performing with them, and... Mad respect. It’s so hard to dance to something live, because you never know if the musicians are going to play slightly different from what you remember. It must’ve taken a LOT of practice.

Everyone’s singing and dancing were so good, and especially Banri’s. I feel like his dancing became even more explosive, which was such a treat to watch!

The mini storyline for this one, and if you saw the video advertisement for this that was going around, then you probably already know some spoilers, but all of Akigumi receive fan letters, but the only one that Taichi receives is from a guy. Ever since he played Zero, he’s got a lot of guy fans (And, can you blame them? Taichi played such a cute Zero!). 

But typical Taichi, he wants to be popular with the ladies, so he’s pretty bummed. The song remix for this one is, “What the Hell is a Girl” and Taichi is singing where his girl fan is. 

When Taichi does finally receive a fan letter from a mysterious K (the letter is dressed up very cutesy and perfume was sprayed on it), he gets so happy. Sakyo warns him of the three things that he must do to ensure their fans’ happiness, which becomes a remix of “Simplicity, Frugality, and Temperance Lifestyle.”

So in the next Street Act, Taichi proceeds to try to steal all the glory in order to look cool, but it’s... So cringey, lololol. And if you saw the video clip, you’d know that this is the part where the rest of the troupe scolds him. Save for Omi, who could never scold Taichi for his life, lololol. And Banri encourages Taichi and the rest of the troupe and makes everything better.

In the end, it’s revealed that Sakoda Ken was the one who wrote the letter because he wanted to cheer up Taichi, LOL. Only Sakyo and Omi knows and they vow to keep it a secret.

Speaking of Sakoda Ken, he really carries the whole show! I love him so much!!! He was the MC for the Akigumi free style rap battle (The one between Omi and Taichi was my favorite, it was hilarious), and the host for the Sakoda Ken radio show. As a treat, you also get to hear Sakoda sing! And he’s not bad!

As for the backup dancers, they were all the same as the previous two lives, save for adding in one more, so there was five backup dancers instead of four. And they’re all so talented. And really cute and fun to watch!

Overall, the whole vibe of Autumn Troupe Live is that Akigumi is so stinking cool, I was fanning myself the whole time watching them. They’re so hot!

Sakoda, Juza, Banri: Very Affectionate S/O

KEN SAKODA

Tbh everyone went 'wtf??' when you got with Sakoda, but that man was Through The Roof! He was stunned when you agreed to go out with him and he hugged you tightly upon hearing your answer.

He didn't really expect you to be so affectionate though, and it flustered him more often than not. Don't get me wrong, Sakoda is definitely someone who isn't afraid of PDA either, but you do it so often that he can't compete!

You're always slipping yourself under his arm and latching onto his side whenever he's not paying attention, and it startles him when he sees how close you are to his face.

What really gets to him though is the hand holding. He blushes so much and tries to look for Sakyo for help, but not once has that man come to his rescue.

Despite his sketchy job and his mannerisms, Sakoda is probably the shyest out of the three here, and finds it difficult to cope with how much you're always touching him, whether you're curled around his body or burying your face in the crook of his neck.

He's a real softie at heart and loves it!

Like Sakoda, he was also very flustered when he figured out how touchy you were and how unafraid you were to show it.. He wasn't sure how he felt about it, but let it slide. Maybe he'd get used to it or something.

A Lot of Hugs Happen. Whenever he waits for you someplace and he enters your line of vision, you start excitedly bouncing towards him and tackle him with a hug! He gets so surprised with the strength of it that he actually stumbles back a few steps as he wraps his arms around you to prevent you from falling.

There's also a lot of piggybacks that happen because you're a slow walker compared to him. He has super long legs that lets him take long strides, so when he notices you falling behind, he crouches down and waits for you to leap on.

He gets used to your affection very fast, and he looks forward to your touch whenever you guys get to hang out together. He doesn't even say anything anymore when you casually plop onto his lap and curl against his chest, just wraps his arms around your body while you two watch something on the tv.

His favourite thing to do with you is eat snacks though. When you're curled up in his lap it's usually when you have sweets to share and he happily opens up his mouth for you to scoop custard in.

Extremely comfortable with the PDA right from the get go. When he first met you, he casually threw an arm around your shoulders and dragged you away from a group of guys that were bothering you on your way home.

Banri doesn't normally bother what things like that, but it was an unfair situation with three guys against you. He had to do something and he'd be damned if he saw you in the newspaper the next day.

His actions are very lazy, but they're full of love and adoration, no worries. He's very patient too, as it took some time for you to feel truly comfortable around him enough to start doing things like hugging or holding hands. You actually started off with brushing your fingers through his hair and He Loved That.

He also really likes it when you sit in his lap because he likes the weighted down feeling. Sometimes he'll pull you into his lap when you're walking by just for the hell of it.

He thinks it's cute though, receiving so much attention from you. Sometimes he'll be sitting on the floor, just leaning back against the front of the couch when you just come by and plop into his lap– this is his favourite position too.

Because you'd be leaning all your weight on him, and your thighs would be framing his waist as you dragged your hands through his hair. His eyes would shut in an instant and he'd relax under the touch of your fingertips, his head slowly falling back in bliss while you kissed his chin.

He also loves it when you guide his hands to hold you by your thighs lol

@pechikka Oops sorry, my reply got very long (it’s quite rambly...) so I made it into a separate post. Also I don’t mind reading all your comments so don’t worry that! I’m glad to get some feedback regarding my teams ^^

So to start, I’ve been thinking about this since... around this May so I have a lot of thoughts. The setting I have for this though is just if the main storyline from the game just so happened to also have pokemon too. I considered a lot of things from canon and tried to fit pokemon into that. The way this first started was me noticing how much Muku looks like a Jigglypuff lol

So examples of what I mean with the above...

When I added a Dratini to Muku’s team, I imagined him coming across it on that beach trip with Juza’s family that was brought up in the event Dazzling Beachside Passion. Tsumugi’s Chansey evolved into a Blissey during his break from acting after failing that God-za audition. Chansey spent a lot of time taking care of Tsumugi when he was depressed and from that they formed a stronger bond. Juza and Kumon are the only overlap I have with Riolu and Lucario (by final evolutions). I see Kumon wanting to have a pokemon just like his brother because he admires him so much. I actually typed up a post about this kind of stuff earlier this week so I’ll post that after I make some more edits

Anyways onto your comments!

I’ve been debating about which pokemon is triangular enough for Misumi to fill in his last slot, and I think I might go for adding in the Vanilluxe line after reading what you said. They do sort of give me similar vibes lol. I do think it has more diamonds than triangles, but they’re basically just two triangle and I’m sure Misumi said something like that in the game before too. I can imagine Misumi using his Snorunt and Vanillish to make snowcones for his troupe and other members of the company during the summers to help cool down. Though I can also see it suddenly turning into winter if his pokemon were too excited to pay attention to the amount of ice they were making. Suddenly Tenma is a snowman, Yuki is laughing at him and his Flareon and Charizard have to help him thaw out.

I have thought about Crobat for a bit for Sakyo, but I ended up deciding against it. For one Crobats are HUGE. Like they’re listed as 6ft in the pokedex and that is height, not wingspan. Golbat is only a foot shorter than that. I do love Crobat, it’s one of my go-to flying types but I can’t bc it’s hard to work with when I’m making those (relatively) to-scale team posts. I made a few posts before about Golbat/Crobat when I was considering a change to Itaru’s team and when I was making a first draft to Sakoda’s. I do see how you think it would suit him though.

Also, just on an aesthetic level I don’t personally think it looks right. When I was considering pokemon for Sakyo, I didn’t want pokemon that immediately made me think yakuza. Especially since Sakyo didn’t go down that path until he was in middle/high school. I wanted pokemon that would be found easily around his way home and ones that looked decently plain but mildly intimidating even before evolving. The one that looks the most out of place is Gyarados, but if you’ve read Act 2 Ep 7 they way he got it is sorta similar to when he bought those trading cards (except a Majikarp). I also made a post when I was still considering pokemon for him.

Oh and this is more apparent for older characters, but many of their pokemon were caught over a long span of time. Like Sakyo’s first pokemon were Spearrow and Rattata. Later in elementary were Majikarp and Nicada. High school was Pinsir and Meowth. Azuma’s first pokemon was an Eevee. Chimecho during high school, and most of the rest were caught on trips as an adult (Oricorio, Alolan Ninetales, Froslass, Meinshao).

I did think about Leavanny for Yuki at one point, but I don’t personally see Yuki thinking it’s cute enough to catch even if it does make clothing. Though I can see it as a pokemon belonging to his mom or one of his older sisters. I think Yuki would prioritize his pokemon’s appearances more than anything, and would likely do research ahead of time since there are pokemon like Glameow that start off cute, but lose that when they evolve. I also see all of Yuki’s pokemon being male despite their feminine appearances to reflect himself. Like Primarina has a 12% chance of being female since it’s a starter, and Kirlia can evolve into Gardevior regardless of gender with Gallade only being possible with a shiny stone. I see Muku having a Gallade, but in comparison to Yuki, he only caught his Ralts rather recently.

Hisoka and Chikage having Kalos starters wasn’t something I did on purpose. I had Delphox for Chikage early on since it’s a wizard-like pokemon that aligned with his magic tricks, and since he’s into spicy food I thought a fire-type would be a way to incorporate that lol. Most of Chikage’s pokemon aren’t particularly animal-like since he says himself in the game that he doesn’t know how to deal with them. Though the relationship he has with them are more... business. He does care though.

For Hisoka, I only added in Frogadier a few weeks ago after taking out Shedinja and Eiscue. I thought it would fit in with how ninja-like Hisoka is described and that it would’ve been helpful with his jobs when he was still in the organization. I think the organization gave Hisoka a Froakie to train since the pokemon he had at the time wouldn’t be as useful (Snom & Espurr).

The pokemon that I had in mind for August were Lickitung and Clefable. Since August jobs had a more public role I thought those wouldn’t stick out too much with him working at the candy-shop. Though I wouldn’t mind completing the Kalos trio and give him a Chesnaught. It does look like it would suit him well.

I can totally see that being how Juza ended up with a Pangoro on his team. Though maybe more that it heard the rumors that were spreading about him and sought him out. Like, one of the things I had in mind when putting Juza’s together was how he’s an earnest and nice guy, but because of his appearances people assume he’s a punk/yankee. The backstage story to his Giinji the Wander SSR is a good example. 

So for Pangoro, it’s dex entry talks about how “although it possesses a violent temperament, it won't put up with bullying” and “it's eager to tussle but kindhearted toward its companions”. For Absol, it’s dex entires talk about how “although it's said to bring disaster, in actuality, this Pokémon possesses a calm disposition and warns people of any crises that loom”. Lucario is also known for it’s sense of justice. For Granbull, it was a pokemon that Juza saved from being bullies by other pokemon on his way home from school and it wanted him as his trainer. Muku told him later that Granbull was a Fairy type and was surprised about it.

On something else relating to this...

The other night I was thinking about the level ranges for each character based on age and how competitive I see them being. I recently had the urge to put together movesets for each party and I wanted to know what I would be working with. I also wanted to consider the character’s personal finances as to whether or not they’d be able to afford TM/TR moves along with how willing they’d actually be in buying. But other than that I would just go about it as if I were playing. So moves that suit it’s base stats, one or two STAB moves, having enough type coverage, and some status moves. I’m currently working on formatting another google doc for that but havent really gotten into that.

Mankai Stage Four Seasons Live 2020 Part 2

So even though all of the song performances were the same, they changed a lot in between the first day and the second day so that even if you watch both shows, they’re still enjoyable instead of repetitive!

You know how the characters in the game always talk about adlibbing so that they get rewatchers? Yea, I finally understood that as I watched Part 2 of Four Seasons Live.

Some highlights in between the two shows:

MASUMI DID THE PILL BUG IMPRESSION FROM BOY ALICE IN WONDERLAND EPILOGUE!!!! I screeched when this happened!

Especially since in my Spring 2019 post, I lamented that they took this scene out!

During the Mankai Company family portrait, the first day we have regular Itaru, and then the second we have otaku Itaru. Lol, his tantrum over his game (it’s either his game data cleared, or he lost in a battle or something) was hilariousss.

It’s cute how Four Seasons Live make references to previous plays.

For example, on the first day, Citron and Misumi brought out the Tsuzuru cutouts from Winter 2020. Lololol, I have no idea why that’s a thing, but I think it’s been established that the whole company just likes to mess with Tsuzuru.

On the first day, the manzai was only between Matsukawa and Sakoda. The second day, they added Ryo, which was hilarious, since they did a callback to Sakyo’s and Banri’s manzai in Spring 2019. They also referenced Itaru’s and Masumi’s actors’ manzai that they did in Spring Party. 

The monologue that Sakuya did and the scene right after with Matsukawa and Sakyo was exactly the same. But, maybe because I was watching on the last day, Sakuya started to tear up. I heard from my friend that watched the last show, that he cried during this part. 

And I think that’s amazing. Either, Sakuya’s actor really felt the lines that he was saying (which was basically just thanking everyone for getting him to where he is now) and he really related to this, or the tears might’ve been from this being the last show.

BUT IT BETTER NOT BE THE LAST SHOW FOR MANKAI STAGE. THERE’S NO ANNOUNCEMENT YET, BUT I AM STILL WAITING FOR ACT 2!!!!

Either way, I think that’s so precious. I love passion~

LOL!!! THIS WAS SUCH A RIOT!!!

Originally, Aladdin was supposed to be a flirt, but Banri makes SUCH A FLIRTY Ali Baba, lololol. Hisoka as a girl was cute as hell. 

BUT SAKYO AS THE GENIE!!! I DIEDDDDDD!

His genie had a very Yakuza flair.

I thought that this might’ve been funnier than Natsugumi’s (sorry!).

I don’t think when Akigumi performed this, Sakyo gave Capone a handicap. He might’ve and I probably just don’t remember it. But Tenma walked with a limp as Capone, and during the fight scene, he lost the limp, showing that it was fake to get people’s guard down. Made Capone a lil more badass.

Lololol, Homare as a villain. He did a good job, but Omi is the true villain, lololol. Just that one scene, where Omi looms over Taichi in a menacing manner really sold the villain act for me. 

Maybe since this play was shortened a lot, there wasn’t a lot of scenes between Benjamin and Lansky this time around, so Masumi and Yuki didn’t really feel like brothers. In my opinion, Misumi was more like the older brother, lololol.

But both Misumi and Masumi are athletic, so they did a good job playing the two leads. The action was cool, and I was just fangirling over them. They’re so cool~~~

I think out of the four plays that they mixed up, Water Me was my fave. It was just so funny, lololol. If anybody else watched these, I would love to know what’s yours!

I can’t believe it’s over!!!

I enjoyed Mankai Stage Four Seasons Live 2020 IMMENSLY, and I’ll be saving up to buy the DVDs in April!

Mankai Stage Autumn 2020 Part 2

It starts with all of Mankai Company acting like the Yakuza, and it’s pretty entertaining. I was NOT expecting Azuma to come out and talk in a hella deep voice though. LOL, that caught me off guard.

After Sakoda slips up and reveals that Sakyo is looking for an apartment, the rest of Akigumi are sooo noticeably flustered and awkward around Sakyo. It was hella funny. But as the play went on, it became heartbreaking.

The contrast between Sakyo acting really good, while the others don’t have their head in the game, was really sharp. And you can just see the mounting frustration within Sakyo.

Each Akigumi member paired up with someone outside of their troupe to confide in, and I thought that the pairings were really sweet.

Sakyo confides a lot in Azuma. Ever since the Adult Onsen event, I really dig their friendship. Before Guy, these two are the oldest out of the whole company. And I’m happy that Mankai Stage nurtures this dynamic really well. Them drinking sake together was real sweet.

Tenma and Banri pair up, since they’re the leaders.

Juza confides a lot to Muku, and I think that’s really cute. In Summer 2019 Juza had a lot of interactions with Muku, and I’m really happy that they carried that over to Autumn 2020. Truly the sweetest cousins.

Omi and Tsuzuru pair up, which makes sense. Since they both go to the same university. It took me a minute to realize that though since I hella forgot, lol.

And that left Taichi with... Matsukawa. LOL

There’s a moment where Muku is carrying a huge stack of DVDs (I think) and when it topples over, Tenma helps him out. Except Tenma is hardcore struggling, lololol. YAS Mankai Stage, please continue to showcase the strong, athletic Muku.

The whole company scrambling to look for Sakyo was really sweet. I just love that they love him! Sakyo deserves all the love~

Aside from the comedic parts though, this play was really really somber.

I lied earlier, the play starts with Sakyo getting mugged by the Ginsekai and then the boss inviting him to join them. And that tone kind of carried itself to the rest of the play.

Even onto the stage play. Their’s a section where Sakyo just monologues the whole time, but it’s hella intense. He’s constantly getting shot at, struggling to stay afloat and keep fighting. He’s coughing up blood (I was hella shocked when this happened)! But I think the contents of his monologue was how he gave up on his dream but now, even though he’s “old” he now has the chance to pursue his dream and he’s never going to give up on it. He’s trying to prove himself to Yuzo, to Yukio, to everyone, that he can.

And it’s hella intense, that even the other Akigumi members are overwhelmed. As someone who’s nearing Sakyo’s age, I too feel like sometimes I’m too old to pursue the things I want to do. So watching this was super emotional for me.

As a Taichi fan, I did wish they had a scene where he was shadowing Sakoda, but since he had a lot of stage time not he first half, I guess they cut it out.

But Sakoda and Ryo fanboying over Akigumi was sooo adorable and hella funny. Especially with Matsukawa allowing them to join the staff so that he has less work to do. LOL

AKIGUMI GROUP PHOTOOOOO

Apparently Autumn 2020 was the first time they hired an ensemble cast, but I have no idea what they did???

So far, out of all of the performances, Tsuzuru is the only character that has appeared in all of them. Like, if Sakuya was the face for the A3! Game, then Tsuzuru is the face of Mankai Stage. LOL.

The finale was amazing as always. Especially when they performed One x One. Omi said “motherfucker” lololol

But usually, the cast would go out to the audience, but they didn’t this time. And it’s most likely due to Covid. It was kind of sad to see, but I’m glad that they’re trying to be safe.

AND I’M SO THANKFUL THAT AT LEAST MANKAI STAGE 2020 WINTER ISN’T COMPLETELY CANCELLED BUT WILL BE LIVE-STREAMED!!!!

For those of you guys who don’t have access to a VPN, nor want to buy the DVDs, some accounts on bilibili post the stage play portion of Mankai Stage, if anyone is interested. I think someone just uploaded The Wandering Warrior one. I know I saw Alice and the Skye Pirates one too.

Finished watching the summer portion of the Mankai Stage play!

I think I will never get used to how deep Sakuya’s voice is. Every time his actor talks, I forget that he’s Sakuya! Lol. He has Sakuya’s energy, but because his voice is so low, he doesn’t really feel like Sakuya to me. But maybe I’m just biased, lololol

Also, can we just appreciate Misumi’s actor?

I feel like finding the perfect Misumi would be real difficult. Misumi is hella athletic, so you need that. And Misumi has the ability to drastically change his voice range for the sake of the character he plays. So you need to be able to do that too.

But his actor is PERFECT as Misumi.

Also, the Misumi in the stage play is EXTRA AS HELL. Like, I feel like even more so than the game.

I applaud the actor for being able to both sing and BREAKDANCE at the same time. What kind of sorcery is this.

THEY INCLUDED THE PROTRACTOR SCENE THAT THE ANIME TOOK OUT.

And the protractor actually becomes a key player for the troupe too, LOL.

I feel like in this play, Misumi was so powerful because he basically converted the whole Natsugumi into triangulism, lololol.

Also LMAO AT HARUGUMI STRAIGHT UP CARRYING MASUMI OFFSTAGE SO THAT HE WOULDNT FOLLOW NATSUGUMI ON THEIR CAMPING TRIP. THIS PLAY IS SO EXTRA I LOVE IT

Also, question. Did they draw a six pack on Kazunari? Lololol

SAKODAS INTERACTION WITH SAKYO HAD ME ROLLING. IMLOVE SAKODA!!!! He be my fave non actor.

I was wondering how they would incorporate the fireworks scene, and it was just. Too cute. Soooo cute

I was not prepared for the team feels though when Tenma actually cried!!!!!!!! I love a supportive team!

Overall, despite not really understanding what was said, I enjoyed the play!

Mankai Stage Autumn 2020 Part 1

The opening was hella dramatic.

Spring/Summer is usually paired together, and Autumn/Winter are paired together. With Winter being the adult group, their stories tend to have a more somber tone, especially when compared to Spring/Summer’s lighthearted atmosphere. And maybe since they’re a pair, Autumn also has a more somber tone??? Like, yea, they’re the action troupe, but Act 3 kind of had a more serious tone with it’s My Portrait and everything.

So yea, the opening was hella dramatic. I don’t even know what they were talking about, but each Akigumi member had their own monologue. I think it might’ve been bits and pieces of their portraits?

For this round of stage plays, every performance had the same opening number. Akigumi did too, but they changed the music to fit their more “rock” style, which was... interesting. Lololol.

It caught me off guard. And it made me wonder if Spring and Summer also had their own music, but maybe they were too similar that I couldn’t tell.

Taichi trying to act as a girl in the beginning was hella cringey, lol. Juza threw up because of it, LOL.

Sakoda Ken is the unofficial 7th member (once Azami joins) of Akigumi, and that’s a fact. I love him so much, lololol.

You know in the game Sakyo does care for Sakoda, even if he may be a little tsundere about it. And in the stage play you can really see that, and it’s so adorable. I wasn’t 100% sure exactly what was going on, but I think Sakoda wanted to have a rap session with Sakyo. And Sakyo indulges him. It’s MEGA CUTE.

Whoever the actor is for Ryo, he did SUCH A GOOD JOB!!! My heart was breaking for him.

TENMA AND BANRI FINALLY SHARE THE STAGE TOGETHER!!! It’s really funny how each A3ders seem to toss the baton to each other. When Sakuya was struggling, Banri and Tsumugi helped. Then he helped Tenma. Now Tenma encourages Banri. It’s real sweet.

Juza also is an adorkable baby who really cares for his fellow troupe members. He tries to help out but he’s so awkward about it, it’s so endearing!

THE BEACH SCENE WITH OMI AND TAICHI WAS EVERYTHING!!!!

I really love how they used their stage and backdrops for this part. I thought that it was really creative and smart.

And the whole scene was so touching and cute and gahhh, my heart. My fave roomies~

The actual stage play was also really fun. It was super intense and high action.

And I think there was a bit of romantic undertone between Wolf and Zero??? Just the way Taichi’s actor acted, it made it come off that way. Just an observation. Personally, I thought that it was cute.

Banri’s character was hella creepy though, lololol

Overall, this was a lot of fun!

Autumn Stage Play

Since you read the portraits when you read the play, I was really excited to see how it’s really done. I don’t know much about theater, so I didn’t know if portraits really were a thing, but in the stage play it was done so well!

Juza’s was really emotional; no wonder Yuzo liked his the best.

But what was interesting was that Juzo was highlighted a lot in the others’ portraits as well. He’s such a central figure to Akigumi, I guess.

When I first watched the Naruto stage play, or more like, when I first saw the photo shoots for that play, I was really amazed at how the actors really look like their characters. Like... I have an appreciation for cosplay, but I’ve also seen some really bad ones out there. Especially in the wig department. But it wasn’t like that at all for the Naruto stage play! And I was really impressed!

In the same way, the Mankai stage play’s actors really really look like their characters. Like, if I had to envision any of the game characters as a real life person, it would look exactly like the stage play actors. Like, it’s crazy how perfect they are for the role.

Like... Omi. Oh man, Omi. The stage play Omi straight up looks like the 2D Omi came to life, lol.

But I think in terms of wigs, Banri and Reni had the worst ones, LOL. I’m sorry, i just really hate the random thick ass strand of hair in the middle of the face. It looks good on 2D, but not in 3D. But that’s just my opinion, lol.

TAICHI WAS SO CUTE!!!

I love Omi’s and Taichi’s relationship in the game; I just love how supportive they are of each other, and in the stage play, you can really see that! They’re just soooo cuuute. Especially because their height difference is so huge too! Lololol

I wonder if the script writers write the script first, or if they see who can perform first, and then write the script. Because only Tsuzuru, Itaru, Muku and Misumi from Haru/Natsugumi appear in this one. And it was kind of weird to me.

I will forever love the running gag that Tsuzuru straight up dies every time he finishes writing a script. And the Akigumi’s reaction to it was HILARIOUS! And then the rest of the company members just only care about the script and just... leave Tsuzuru just lying there. LOL.

AND THEN MISUMI IMPERSONATES CITRON!!!! AND IT WAS SO CUTE AND FUNNY AND ACCURATE!?!?!

And then the bad Japanese triggered Tsuzuru into waking up LMAOOOO

WE FINALLY GOT TO SEE ITARU IN OTAKU MODE! We didn’t get that in the previous play, so I’m so so so happy that we finally got to see that!

Yuki is a key player in act 3, so it was weird that he wasn’t part of the cast at all. He was mentioned, and all of his hardwork was shown to be done off stage, but. I don’t know. That part was weird for me.

The interaction between Juza and Muku broke my heart. The actor that plays Muku plays Muku SO WELL!!!! HE’S BABY!!!

Juza was also really really expressive. Like. I do think his actor did a really good job to show just how awkward he is. Juza was my instafave, but this stage play made him all the more endearing.

In the game, when Izumi asks for a volunteer to be leader, Juza deliberately looks away. But in the play, Juza hesistantly raises his hand but Banri beats him to it AND THEN MY HEART JUST. clenched. GAAAAHHHHH

Going back to the topic of the actors really looking like their characters. I think what’s nice is that the clothes of the characters in the game actually look like what people would wear. So if people did cosplay it, it wouldn’t be too outlandish. So it’s cool that stage play made the costumes for their actors really accurate to the game.

Like, Juza baby, WHAT ARE THOSE?!?!?!

Omg, another hilarious moment is when Sakyo and Sakoda just straight up broke into a song when they were explaining the 3 points of frugal living. Asdfjkll. It was hilarious! And everyone’s over the top reactions were soooo funny too!

The action sequence for the actual play was good too!!! It was so cool!

Things I would’ve liked to see, but wasn’t included: I really wanted to see that one scene where Juza and Banri were about to throw hands in their dorm room, and Omi just. Slides right in and stops them. Because it foreshadowed Omi’s Wolf days! And you don’t really see much of that in the play. Maybe they’re saving it up for when they do Stranger. I don’t know, we’ll see.

And then the confrontation between Reni and Taichi, with Banri and Juza backing him up. I’m probably just biased, since I’m a Taichi stan, but I really really wanted to see that scene. It’s one of my favorites because I love Akigumi being overprotective of Taichi!

And I know, for the sake of time, the only crime Taichi committed were the notes and shredding the clothes. But by taking out the stolen props, I feel like they missed out on just how big of a crime Taichi did commit that would drive him to being hella guilt ridden later. And no Juza using a hand gun scene. And no Sakyo messing up and then becoming determined to surpass his “limited” potential scene either. But, for the sake of time, I understand that they couldn’t put in everythinggg

So I just got to hope for the anime I guess, LOL.

Overall, I enjoyed it! Now, I’m curious on how the winter play is going to be like.

Mankai Stage Spring 2019 Part 1

So a while ago I bought the Spring 2019 - Autumn 2020 Mankai Stage plays, and in a previous post I announced that they finally came home! But my dumbass didn’t realize that you need a region free DVD player to watch them, and all the hacking methods I tried didn’t work on mine. So I had to wait another couple days in order to watch them. My DVD player finally came in the mail today, and finally... I got to watch Mankai Stage Spring.

The timing was kind of perfect, in a way, since I finally got to obtain “Alex in Wonderland” due to the rerelease event, and the first half was based on that. Sadly, The Clockwork one wasn’t rereleased, but that’s what yaycupcake.com is for.

Anyways, on to my thoughts of the play~

The play starts with the last chapter of Main Story 1, where Sakuya is outside the company, reflecting on how in the beginning it was only him and Matsukawa, and now the company has four complete troupes. Or that’s what I’m assuming, since again, I don’t understand Japanese and there’s no subtitles. I thought that it was a nice tie in with Mankai Stage Autumn Winter, showing a continuous timeline.

But I guess Masumi didn’t like Sakuya spending alone time with Izumi too long, since he and the rest of Harugumi just barges in, and it’s hilarious. And then they pose that is very very similar to this photo:

So so cute!!!

I absolutely loved the opening number! Very very fun

I also can’t get over how adorable Masumi is, lololol.

After reading the “Alex in Wonderland” event in the game, I remembered Citron’s dislike of being royalty, which foreshadows Act 2. And once again my mind was blown on just how intricate the storyline is for A3!, that even the event stories play a key part in the overall story.

And I do think that Citron’s actor did a good job in portraying that foreshadow.

But LMAO they included the dominatrix scene, or at least, an aspect of it, from Citron’s SR backstory!

I was wondering how they were going to make Masumi suddenly get a character change, when the catalyst in the game was Taichi and his magazine, and Taichi was absent in the play.

They replaced that with Sakoda asking Azuma for advice (I think). It was very entertaining to watch Sakoda dance in a modern/contemporary style, lololol. I wasn’t 100% sure what was going on, but I think Sakoda was asking for some advice, and his request might’ve had some romantic undertones, so Azuma completely misunderstood when he gave his advice. Masumi listening in was hilarious. It was also hilarious to se Sakoda reenact Azuma’s advice on Sakyo and totally backfiring, because it’s. Sakyo. LOL.

Masumi’s character change isn’t that obvious in the game, but it hella was in the stage play. The characters on stage were freaked out by Masumi’s drastic change, and I was too, lololol.

There’s a scene between Tsumugi and Azuma that was hella random, and I had no idea what was going on there. I hope one day these plays will be translated so that I could understand what was going on here... Or if anyone who watched this too and understood this scene, please feel free to hit me up and fill me in!

They replaced Kamekichi with Banri, which makes sense concerning how close Banri is to Itaru, and the game’s epilogue scene (which they took out... I mean, I understand that they couldn’t fit everything, but the epilogue is one of my fave scenes from the event, and I wanted to watch Masumi act as a pillbug, lololol).

In the play, they had a couple A3ders meeting scene, which I thought was a nice addition. Sucks that there was no Tenma, but I thought that it was nice to show those meetings, since in the game, it is implied that it happens, even though we don’t really get to see it. I wasn’t really sure what was exactly said in the meetings, but I think a lot of it was about Sakuya’s worries on his leadership and Harugumi’s upcoming play.

Which I thought was a nice touch. Sakuya was a loooot more involved in the stage play than in the game. In the game, he just gave Masumi a pep talk and let Itaru handle everything else, lololol. That part did kind of bothered me, since I thought that that as a leader he should be more involved. And in the stage play, he really was, and I really appreciated that.

It was also hilarious that the A3ders meeting was cut short due to Sakoda enforcing Sakyo’s frugality rules.

The school scene with the two high school girls was hilarious!

Itaru’s bonding moment with Masumi at the Game Center was sooooo good. I loved the choreography, especially with the parallels between Itaru and Masumi and their game characters. I thought that it was brilliant, and the song was fun.

Their rendition of “Alex in Wonderland” was absolutely perfect. Masumi played such a cute, confused Alex. And overall, the play was so chaotic, high energy, and wild. Very fitting for Wonderland.

Overall, I enjoyed this a lot! It was so worth it, and I had so much fun watching it!

The Winter Stage Play

OMG TSUMUGI’S SMILE IS JUST TOO PRECIOUS IT MUST BE PROTECTED!!!!!

Sakyo’s past is so intertwined with the Mankai Company, and he’s so so invested, that it makes sense that he plays a kind of narrator ish role along with Matsukawa.

Ngl, Matsukawa is hella annoying in the game, but I really like him in the plays.

Hisoka is sooo cute! And I wonder how much he had to practice to be able to catch all those marshmallows.

For real, I’m so impressed with the actors’ dexterity. They have to catch some random stuff sometimes out of the air, and they manage to catch it each time! Impressive!

And the actor for Tasuku is so hot. Like, when I saw him, I was like, “it’s Tasuku!” And he’s fit too; strong enough to lift Hisoka, lololol.

Whenever the troupe dances, I always watch Hisoka because it’s so weird to see him... not sleeping, LOL.

THE LOUPE DANCE WAS AMAZING!!! Yes yes yes, so perfect for Homare, to have his part become the most musical scene.

Ok, once again, I’m going to reiterate on how powerful Misumi is. Like. Anytime someone sees him, they just, automatically hold out their hands as triangles. It’s like, become a cult greeting or something, lololol.

AND THE LITTLE GAME SCENE BETWEEN MUKU AND MISUMI WAS SOOO CUTE!!!!

I’m glad that they incorporated Taichi working for Yuki somehow, despite Yuki not being there. Misumi’s impersonation of Yuki was v cute. I wonder if he’s like... the designated impersonator, lol.

Since Fuyugumi is a more “sophisticated” group, it was more dialogue heavy than action packed. So as someone who doesn’t understand the language, it was a bit harder to stay engaged. Especially during their monologues. SO ONE DAY I HOPE TO WATCH IT SUBBED.

Pleeeease, stage play company, sub your DVDs and I would buy them ASAP!

Which is why reading Act 9 is weird, since he gets a sort of redemption arc??? I don’t know, it’s a tangent, but Reni’s character growth does give me mixed feelings.

But ngl, his actor did the villain act real well.

Since we never got to see Godza’s play, I was curious on what they were going to do.

They actually show the play! And you can see Haruto acting! I wasn’t 100% sure what the storyline was, but it was pretty intense, lol.

Fuyugumi’s show was so EMOTIONAL!!! A tragedy indeed. I almost started crying.

I absolutely adored the fact that when Reni was trying to leave, Sakyo stopped him so that Mankai could get the money. And then Sakoda, Banri and Juza backed him up, so it was like. They were Sakyo’s little henchmen. It was sooo cute. And then Omi was prepared to square up too before Taichi stopped him. I lost it at this scene. It was so so so funny!!!

What I did wish that they included was a drinking scene with Fuyugumi. Because, to me, drinking together is like, their thing. So that was my one main disappointment, I guess.

Despite the language barrier, I enjoyed it overall! If you guys like a3! I highly recommend watching it!

Mankai Stage Spring 2019 Part 2

Now on to the “Clockwork Heartbeat” event portion!

Sakuya continues to be very involved, as he’s in the meeting with Matsukawa, Sakyo, and Mizuno. Even though he’s not the lead in any of these plays, you can still tell that he is “the lead” of Mankai Stage, especially since he is Harugumi’s leader.

A3ders meetings continue to happen throughout the play. I wonder if they wil still be a thing for the rest of the stage plays too.

But thanks to that, we have Tsumugi and Banri interacting a lot, which I appreciate, since they barely talked to each other in Mankai Stage Autumn & Winter.

Unfortunately, Masumi and Itaru don’t show up that much, maybe since they had the main spotlight in the first half. But I was waiting for the part where Itaru gives Tsuzuru advice, since that scene gets eluded to in the “KniRun” event. Oh well...

Citron had a looooot of stage time, which made sense, since he is the co-lead. But OMG, Citron is just... SO EXTRA!!! Lololol.

I think one of the favorite non-roommate friendships in the series definitely has to be Tsuzuru and Citron. They even have their own name, Citrun, lololol. But definitely, in the game, this event is what made me apreciate their friendship so much, and as the series progresses, their friendship becomes so so precious and sweet.

I just love that Manzai became their thing.

Speaking of Manzai, I was not expecting the Banri and Sakyo pair! LOL

THEY WERE HILARIOUS!!!!

I’m not exactly sure who won, but I think the winners were Matsukawa and Sakoda, instead of Kamekichi.

But actually getting to watch the Manzai scene was vee cute. (Also, as an aside, Masumi’s and Itaru’s stage play actors also do their own Manzai performance, which is adorable, during some fan event, I think. I think you can find the video on YouTube.)

You know how in the game, when Tsuzuru couldn’t really figure out an ending yet, and I think S was scripted to die, and Citron makes a mysterious comment that foreshadows Guy? I was WAITING for that to happen, since they foreshadowed Citron’s future in “Alex in Wonderland.” But it didn’t happen... Or at least, I don’t think they did? Since I don’t completely understand Japanese that well, I could’ve missed it. But... I’m pretty sure they skipped that.

There was a lot of Azuma and Sakyo interaction sprinkle in, which I just absolutely adored!!! I headcanon Azuma as being older than Sakyo, so when they’re paired together, you can see some of Sakyo’s childish side, and they really played that up in this performance. It’s so cute, lololol. I just love those two. It’s another non-roommate dynamic that I adore.

When Mizuno confesses his broken promise to Tsuzuru, those two actually perform the flashbacks, so it was really really cute watching them act like children. It was sooo sweetttttt

“Clockwork Heartbeat” was done really well. I give Citron’s actor a lot of props. His movements made it really obvious that S isn’t human, and I think he did a really really good job.

Mizuno was shown off stage, in the audience (which I really appreciate. Something fun that Mankai Stage does is that they play around a lot with the spacing), and before the “show” starts, he actually sits in one of the audiences’ seat. I was a bit surprised at that. Like, did they have to sell one less ticket just for that? Lololol

The finale was amazing. I love the music and the dancing, and best of all, they also included Harugumi’s troupe song from the game. I SCREECHED when I heard them sing that. Amazing.

They ended the overall performance to parallel the beginning. With Sakuya monologuing and getting interrupted by the other Harugumi members (Masumi continues to be hilarious), and ending with that “photo shot.” I thought it tied up the overall play very nicely.

I enjoyed it a lot, and I highly recommend that everyone watch it, because it’s super fun. And I hope that I can actually have someone to fangirl over this with, since it’s still a very very small niche, lololol
