SafeShipTember day 7 - Comfort after a nightmare
Fun fact! Wulfington has the same childhood trauma as me. I regularly get PTSD nightmares abt the abuser (my dad) so Wulfie does too...it helps to think abt how Wulfington's husbands will comfort him no matter what and make sure he knows he's OK and he's safe.

Day 12: Taking a warm and relaxing bubble bath after a long day.
Tumblr media
Vanilla, Tippy, and Bel all walk through the front door after a very tedious day of running errands.
“Ugh, I need a drink.” Bel wrings out his hair from the rain. Vanilla does the same and sets aside his broken umbrella,
“Me too, babe.”
Tippy shakes his hair and body like a dog that just got out of the bath. Vanilla puts his hands up in a vain attempt to shield himself from getting even more soaked. Tippy’s hair puffs up into tight curls that cover his eyes,
“Much like my middle school wardrobe, I have ripped genes.” Tippy blows his curly bangs out of his eyes, only for them to fall back into his eyes.
“I think you look cute with curly hair, Tip-” Bel is interrupted by a wet sock being flung into xis face. Bel takes the sock of xis face and pouts, “No need to be so cranky about it, hmph.”
Vanilla sighs and steps into the kitchen,
“Alright, you two. While I’m getting the wine and cookies ready, you both draw us a nice bubble bath.”
“Don’t have to ask me twice, Vans!” Tippy says, messing with one of his curls.
“I’ll get the face masks!” Bel claps their hands. The other two head into the bathroom, where they have a normal shower, and a very large hot tub-like bath tub. Tippy turns on the hot water, Bel opens the drawers looking for which face care masks to use,
“Hmmm… volcanic rock activated charcoal deep cleanse black head destroyer clay face mask? Or holographic double sprinkle sparkle bubbling rainbow unicorn peel off mask? OR should we go with the classic aloe vera vitamin C vitamin D vitamin A collagen plus leave-on all night face mask?”
“Yes!” Tippy isn’t paying attention to what Bel is saying. He sprinkles in some little bath rocks, pours some calming lavender bubble bath into the tub. Bel purses their lips,
“Alright, I guess we’ll just have to use whichever… I’ll be the one to have the honor of wearing the unicorn one, of course. Because I deserve it!”
"Can I have the blue one?" Tippy points to the volcanic clay mask jar.
"I'm not sure it's going to be blue, considering it's activated charcoal, babe." Bel scoffs. They open up the jar and… it's a bright blue clay inside!
"Haha! Told you so!" Tippy sticks out his tongue. Bel takes a glob of the clay mask and starts rubbing it on Tippy's face,
"Yeah yeah, enjoy."
Vanilla walks in holding a tray of treats,
"How are my handsome boys doing? Are you both behaving in here?" Bel and Tippy both nod. Vanilla chuckles and starts taking off his clothes. Bel and Tippy do the same.
Vanilla steps into the bathtub and happily sighs,
"Aahhh… wait." As Bel and Tippy get in the bath at the same time, the water level rises and spills bubbles and water all over the floor. "Wait wait! Let me drain it-... first." Vanilla pouts as his partners lay in the large bathtub together with him. Tippy and Bel both have face care masks on, which amuses Vanilla. Vanilla puts one on himself. After a while, they all take off their skin care masks and decide to just play and lounge in the nice hot bubble bath together.
Vanilla watches Tippy play with the bubbles and listen to Bel talk about some juicy gossip xe overhead. Tippy places some bubbles on Bel's head and laughs. Bel giggles and makes Tippy's hair into a bubble mohawk. Vanilla smiles at the two, completely enamored with them. He leans over and kisses Tippy on the lips, then kisses Bel,
"What the heck would I do without you two?"
"Probably, like… cry." Bel teases him.
"Oh yeah, Vans. You'd cry!" Tippy laughs. He moves over to Vanilla and holds onto him,
"Well… I'd cry if I didn't have you either."
Bel does the same and puts their arm around Vanilla,
"Yeah… I'd shed a tear here and there maybe."
Vanilla wraps his arms around his two partners,
"I love you guys so much."
"I love you too, Vans!" Tippy nuzzles up against Vanilla's shoulder.
"I love you too, Nilla!" Bel kisses Vanilla's cheek. Bel and Tippy hold hands as Vanilla has both of his arms around them. They all sigh and enjoy each other's company and the relaxing bubble bath.
The End

Safeshiptember Day 3: Relaxing

That was strange. Sakuya almost never initiated the two meeting up, much less in this tone. Was something wrong? Lu couldn’t help but wonder as she set her phone down, waiting for his arrival.
As if on cue, there was a knock, and Lu opened the front door to reveal a worn-out looking Sakuya, his shoulders hunched, his eyes weary, but a smile on his face nonetheless.
“Hey, Saku,” Lu greeted, almost a little awkwardly, beckoning him inside.
“Hey,” he replied, stepping into the house.
“Did something happen?” She asked, staring at the ground where Sakuya slipped off his shoes.
He hesitated.
“No, no, it’s fine. I’m fine.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, just, come here for a second?”
Lu complied with a smile, knowing that if he of all people was asking for things for once, he must need it.
Sakuya practically melted into her embrace, his arms draping lazily over her shoulders as his head found a snug place in the crook of her neck, his body becoming nothing but a limp puddle as Lu tried to support his weight. His breath slowed as every muscle began to settle into place, the tension he was holding lifting itself in an instant. He knew he was safe for once, and Lu was happy to be that place for him.
“Long rehearsal?” She asked softly, rubbing tiny circles into his back.
He nodded with a groan.
“Should we take this to the couch?”
Another nod.
With that, Lu scooped him up into her arms, with him still clinging to her like a koala, and took him to the couch to set him down, letting him find his place in her lap.
Sakuya clung to her for dear life, as if she was going to slip away at any moment, pressing the smallest, softest kisses to her neck and shoulder, as if pleading for her to stay. She held him tighter, resting her face in his thick mess of hair, taking in its texture, its scent, and its owner. Her fingers dragged lazily up and down his spine, sending shivers down it as she felt over every patch of skin, every bone, every muscle.
It felt strange to her that the body, the face, she’d admired for so long from afar was hers. That he was clinging to her when he was feeling low the sane way he boosted her up what felt like a thousand years ago. It was so odd, but so, so nice.
The two remained silent, neither one daring to speak, as if it would break the trance the two had fallen into. They simply reveled in the other’s comfort, praying they’d never leave.

Safeshiptember Day 2: Masquerade
Title: The night the Deer wished for a kiss from the Sun
Characters: Claude von Riegan, Helios (S/I)
Words: 1.9k
AO3 link: hehe I'm the link
Summary:
The mission was simple: if your possible future enemies invited you to a masquerade, you shall not go alone and only try your best at making it a useful night. War would start at any moment, that was a fact the monastery had witnessed already. So with perfect masks and Claude's plan, both Helios and him would play the nobles' game to try get some secret cards for the Golder Deer.
Without, of course, getting too caught up in intense feelings, right...?
Tumblr media
“Are you sure you don’t want to choose someone else for this?” Helios asked, a bit hesitant to follow the plan. Yes, maybe wearing a suit was a rare yet gratifying sight but, to a masquerade full of nobles in disguise? That certainly sounded a bit too out of reach for someone who had grown up in the forests of Ordelia territory. Still, as they always did with their mischievous leader, they trusted his decisions. And they really wanted to continue doing so, but seeing Claude approaching them with a special mask made for the occasion… Oh, feeling out of place never seemed so probable. “Lorenz knows more about ballroom dancing, doesn’t he?”
“Do you want me to risk being scolded during the whole masquerade?” Claude joked and chuckled at his own words. He was wearing a gold deer mask already, its prominent horns reminding Helios of the strongest trees. “You are my greatest option, trust me. Plus, it’ll be fun,” he winked under his elegant disguise. “Let me help you with this.”
Helios only nodded. They had noticed the yellow mask Claude was holding so they waited in silence for him to do as he planned. When he got close enough, his fingers hid Helios’ long bangs behind their ears, right where the pink part of their darkish short hair started. And he gifted himself some time there; fixing some hairs that didn’t need to be fixed, quietly putting the mask in its place as if the littlest bit of rush could make the object break apart. It’s not like Helios noticed how he used it as an excuse to stand closer either way: they were too absorbed analyzing Claude’s clothing to even consider it.
Compared to their suit, Claude’s formal attire didn’t even seem from Fódlan. Did he secretly change it and didn’t wish for Lorenz to go because of that? The differences between their jackets, his thicker belt around his waist…
Well, it’s not like Helios knew much about nobility etiquette and stuff like that. Perhaps what they would call gracious would be a crime against fashion in Hilda’s eyes. With that thought in mind, they refrained from speaking a word about it and only then noticed the weight of the mask covering their features.
“How is it?” As soon as Helios asked, Caude’s hands went back to himself in a swift movement. “To be honest, I didn’t even check what the mask is of.”
Claude gladly answered with a gesture. He held their shoulders to turn Helios around, who had to blink twice at the new view. Out of the blue, only a deer and a sun existed in that room of light candles. Night was already embracing them, yet the sun design of Helios’ mask looked as bright as the star itself. Especially in Claude’s eyes.
Helios’ mouth opened in surprise. Maybe it was then, seeing their reflections on that mirror, that they realized Claude really wanted them for this mission. And Helios would do anything for their leader’s decisions.
“See? It’s perfect for you,” he spoke, his warm hands still holding Helios. However, their eyes went somewhere else for a second. They couldn’t afford to fluster when they needed to focus on the plan ahead.
“Aren’t we supposed to hide under these, though? Why did you choose a golden deer mask? That’s quite….”
“Obvious?” he guessed the word, at which Helios hummed in affirmation. “That’s what they’ll also think. And sometimes, my dear Sun, becoming an easy target can be the crucial step to get the information we need.”
The unexpected nickname had an effect on Helios’ heartbeat. No, it was both that and the reflection on the mirror. Claude had gotten closer and closer as he spoke, his head menacing to rest on theirs now. They could follow the silhouette of his curls behind the mask and those green eyes that could shine though any ornament. A sigh escaped from their lips before Claude’s voice filled their heart with determination once more:
“Let’s go, Helios.”
Garreg Mach was as destroyed as ever. That may not have been the most accurate description as it came from someone who had barely spent two months there, but Claude could agree on it. The prediction of an inexorable war was written all over its broken windows and falling walls. Nevertheless, even in the middle of the political and material chaos, nobles had decided to hold a masquerade in the center of Fódlan. As if it were a goodbye letter to peace, a last opportunity to see others before circumstances obliged you to finish them off in the battlefield. Helios would never understand them, but they were smart enough to play along.
When the ballroom opened in front of them, Helios unconsciously straightened their back. By their side, Claude gave a quick look to everyone around them before deciding where to head first. There were quite a lot of guests, yet very few of them had chosen to leave their guards down and enjoy the music in what could be considered the dance floor. Helios followed Claude’s fast steps towards one of the tables. The food displayed on it seemed to have caught his attention, but just a moment later he was found analyzing the space again. There were masks Helios couldn’t decipher, just like Claude’s intentions.
They nudged him and Claude couldn’t help but smile when he saw the arm he was being offered.
“What? Want me all for yourself?” he whispered, his lips teasing in a smirk.
“I just don’t want you to disappear on me.”
“Even in the rare situation that something were to happen, I’m strong to get through it, you know?”
“Yeah, and we were asked to come unarmed while witnessing the start of a war with strangers whose skirts can hide plenty of dagues,” Helios replied, gazing upon the small groups of two or three people around the room. Everyone avoided being alone. “I have my reasons to worry, Deer.”
That sole argument seemed to have been enough: Claude’s mouth was shut once more. However, right when the musicians started to play a new song, he pulled his companion’s arm to bring them to the dance floor.
“Those blue and grey masks,” he pointed out in a whisper, declaring the action had just started.
The person behind the grey mask was taller than their dance partner.  Although both face masks looked pretty bland, the blue one had some splashes of paint that could try to simulate explosions. Their sudden presence on the dance floor could have been a warning. When Claude held Helios’ hand to guide their steps, they returned the gesture by holding his a bit tighter.
They had talked about this phase before: prying could be considered one of Claude’s strong points while Helios’ main focus would be to maintain safety and not to attract too much attention. An enviable duo, but others would have their own strategies, too. They had barely looked at each other when the targets started to walk towards one of the balconies.
No words were needed to adapt to this. Helios was suddenly going along with the spins Claude began as they slowly stepped out of the dance floor. While he guided them, Helios kept staring at the floor in an attempt to make sure they wouldn’t mess things up at this point. That’s why they didn’t see it coming when Claude pinned them against a wall.
“Clau–”
“Shh,” he hushed, eyes looking behind them. The access to the balcony was by their left, but he could also see those two dancers through the window by their right. Not Helios, though. Their peripheral vision was blocked by Claude’s arm. He hoped the broken glass of that huge window would help him get the gist of the others’ conversation.
So Helios just stayed there. Quietly, standing as calm as they could with Claude’s arm brushing their cheek and the shadow of his mask’s horns crowning their head.
They swallowed saliva. The mission had not ended yet.
Thus they tried to focus on their security again. That was Helios’ main priority, after all. All their attention went to other people’s gazes and movements, leaving none for whatever the targets were up to. They trusted Claude to take care of that.
Even though the only candelabra lamp light’s didn’t reach them as well in comparison to the rest of the ballroom, two figures suddenly put their attention on them and started to walk their way. Caude’s chin was up as the gears in his brain worked to confirm his hypothesis. Helios had to act quickly and on their own.
Without giving it a second thought, they grabbed Claude by the waist and pulled him towards them with one hand. They heard a low gasp coming from him as they pried over his shoulder. The possible intruders had decided to walk somewhere else and Claude’s warmth was so, so close.
Minutes went by and Helios did not loosen their grip.
“Claude? Did you find out anything useful?” they softly whispered, still in place. No answer was heard. They waited a bit in case the targets’ conversation was still going. “Claude…?” they repeated after a moment of silence, lowering even more the volume of their voice.
Still no answer. So Helios decided to move back a little, the little they could in that position between the wall and their leader's body. When they looked up at Claude, they found his green eyes staring back at them. He quickly looked back to the balcony, yet Helios stared a bit longer with confusion on their face. Both golden deers’ cheeks were getting warmer.
“Yes, uhm,” Claude rushed to speak again. “I don’t think the Kingdom will refuse to cooperate with us. Sounds like I can make a good use of some of their interests to convince them to work towards a common goal.”
“Good.” Interpreting those words as the mission ending, their hand left Claude’s waist and their shoulders relaxed a bit. However, he did not move an inch. He actually complained on the spot.
“Don’t–”, his voice went down when he continued. “Don’t let go just yet…”
“Huh?” the sound left Helios’ mouth in a breathe. And their hand, guided more by their heart than by their brain, slowly went its way up to Claude’s waist once more. They started to doubt if they had heard correctly. Was it, for some reason, another decision for the greater good of the whole masquerade plan? Or was it something he longed for behind the mission’s facade?
The feeling of Claude’s head on theirs dissipated Helios’ questions. The Sun bearer heard him sigh as his body melted a little on top of theirs. His big mask seemed to be no obstacle when he wanted to rest like that so badly.
“Are… Are you feeling alright?” they genuinely asked, trying their best to contain the fluttering feeling that refused to go away.
“Yes, I am.” Claude could feel words piling up in his throat until none of them could get out of that cave. Just as if there was no space for all those feelings inside of him, because they could not escape from his head and much less from his mouth. Music was still playing but his thoughts couldn’t dance to it right now. There was only one sentence his labyrinth of a heart managed to get out: “I’ve never been better.”

Day 5 of SafeShipTember !! "Warm and Cozy Cuddles while Wrapped Up in a Quilt on a Rainy Day"
I took a lot of liberties with the prompt but here's Radjo hiding under a quilt during a storm! They met as teens when Banjo's family was on vacation.
Him and Radley broke into an abandoned mansion and had to stay there until the storm was over. Thankfully Banjo brought his blanket and Radley brought his flashlight so they're passing the time telling ghost stories!
Also a rare instance of long hair Banjo! This was before he realized he was a man.

Day 10: Going to an orchard to pick some lovely crispy apples, perfect for Autumn treats.
Tumblr media
“Hnnngh!” Tippy tries to reach for an apple to put in his basket. “Almost… got it…!” Suddenly he is boosted up and able to reach, “Whoa! Heheh, thank you, Vanilla.”
“Absolutely, honey bun.” Vanilla chuckles, holding Tippy by the hips. Vanilla gently sets him down and pats his head. Bel tosses an apple up and down in their hand and looks at it, shines it on their shirt and looks in the reflection,
“Absolute perfection.”
Vanilla and Tippy walk over to Bel, holding their baskets. Bel tosses his apple into his basket,
“All in a day’s work!”
Tippy looks into xis basket,
“Uh… you only got one apple in there, wibny.”
“So?” Bel checks xis nails. Vanilla playfully bonks xim on the head,
“So…We might not have enough to make some cinnamon apple treats, dear.”
“Well, what if I just want one?” Bel teases. Vanilla raises an eyebrow at them and crosses his arms.
“Oh alright,” Bel throws up his hands in an exaggerated way, “I guess I’ll go get some more.” Bel picks up Tippy,
“Wha- hey!”
“I’ll be using this little creature to do all the work for me.” Bel holds Tippy up into a tree.
“There are leaves in my freaking sweater!” Tippy calls down to his partners.
“Go get me some apples, apple getter!” Bel grins. Vanilla sighs, face palms, and shakes his head. Tippy is pushed up further into the tree by Bel. He’s brought back down and holding armfuls of apples and one in his mouth,
“Mmmf mmm hmm?”
“Perfect!” Bel drops Tippy and claps xis hands.
“WAUGH- oof!” Tippy falls to the ground, making leaves fly up. Bel looks wide eyed,
“Sorry…” He guiltily grins and chuckles at Vanilla
Back at home
Vanilla, Tippy, and Bel all walk through the front door holding their baskets of apples. They all set them down on the island in the middle of the kitchen. Vanilla sighs happily,
"Okay, now let's go ahead and make some little treats."
"Let's try to make some cinnamon apple pie tarts! Those are always so good." Tippy tells his boyfriends. Bel giggles,
"Should I make some hot chocolate while you two do the baking?"
Vanilla gently tugs them on the back of their shirt and pulls them close,
"Oh no no no, don't think you're going to get out of helping us again, Mister." Bel blushes a bit,
"My my, you were always the commanding type, Nilla." They giggle at him. Tippy chimes in also giggling,
"Vans is always so bossy!"
"Yeah, and I command you both to give me some sugar." Vanilla smirks. He leans down and gives Tippy a tender kiss on the lips, then leans in to give Bel a kiss on the lips as well. Tippy grabs the sugar container,
"Or did you mean this?"
Vanilla takes it,
"That too, sweetie pie. Alright, let's get to baking."
The three lovebirds begin cutting up the apples, making the tart crust, and fixing the filling. After a while, the tarts are in the oven and the three are covered in flour and cinnamon. Tippy licks the apple filling off of the spatula. Vanilla dusts off his apron a little bit. Bel picks out some flour from under his nails. Tippy looks up,
"Bel, you have flour on your nose!"
"What?" Bel becomes cross eyed trying to look at xis own nose. Vanilla laughs and Bel puts xis hands on xis hips,
"Hmph. Oh yeah?" Bel takes a pinch of flour and flicks it in Vanilla's face, making him squint. Tippy bursts out laughing. Vanilla sputters and a little cloud of flour comes off his lips. He looks down at Tippy,
"Oh you think that's funny, Termite?" He gets a mischievous grin on his face. Tippy gasps, then Vanilla flicks some flour onto Tippy's face.
"Pleh! Oh, you're gonna get it, Lucky Charms!" Tippy laughs and flicks more flour at Vanilla. Bel playfully pouts,
"Aww, I want a silly nickname."
Vanilla looks over at him,
"Hmm… you probably wouldn't want the names I used to call you behind your back." Bel puts his hands on his hips,
"Uch!"
Tippy holds onto Bel's arm,
"How about Bels and Whistles?"
"What? No way!" Bel pouts. Vanilla holds onto his other arm,
"How about Prince Glitterpants?"
"Ugh, now you guys are just making fun of me." Bel huffs. "I only wore those pants once and you never let me hear the end of it, Leotard Boy."
"Yeah, well, you just hush." Vanilla kisses Bel's cheek. Tippy nuzzles xis arm, then wraps it around himself. Bel sighs,
"You both are like, total jerks, but I love you anyway."
"Hmhm, we love you too, Glitter Boy.” Vanilla teases them and kisses their nose. Bel pouts but kisses Vanilla back.
Soon the apple pie tarts are finished, and the three gentlemen happily munch on them while sitting on the couch watching Halloween movies

Falling Asleep
Tumblr media
A/N: hi hi! This is day 10 of safeshiptember by @williameaston and the prompt was ‘falling asleep’ thank you dex for such a lovely set of prompts!! 🫶🏼 this is REAL short and plotless
Ship: Keys x Olive
Rain patters against the glass windowpanes of Keys’ apartment. His windows have historically been vignetted by blackout curtains, obscuring any inklings of light that dared interrupt his precious sleep. Now though, his curtains are soft light blue things that flutter and let the light filter in. One of the first changes Olive had made to the apartment when she started staying over. Bad for his eyes to be staring at a screen in total darkness, she’d said.
The aforementioned girl turns over in his arms, squinting two big brown eyes up at him. Her nose scrunches as she adjusts to the daylight. “Wh’time is it?” She mumbles, so close to his face that he can feel her words vibrate against his skin.
Keys looks over her shoulder at the analogue clock on her bedside table. “Almost eight,” he says, voice creaky and sleep-soaked. He almost feels bad as he says it, but she looks so cute with her disheveled hair and pouting face that it’s hard to be too sorry about waking her.
Olive grumbles, pulls the covers up to her shoulders and moving in closer to cuddle into his chest. “No,” she says simply, eyes closing and tilting her face up into the crook of his jaw. “Sleepy.”
He laughs, looking at the dark gray sky outside, then down at the tired girl he loves in his arms, and decides she’s right. “Okay baby,” he submits. “I love you, let’s go back to bed.”
She sighs contentedly. “Love you.”
And with the weight of her confirmation settling warmly in his chest, Keys kisses the top of her head, tunes into the pattering of raindrops, and lets himself relax into sleep again.

Safeshiptember Day 1: Fall Weather
i actually had a bit of time today so! here’s a little drabble for today’s prompt: fall weather
It wasn’t often that the Shepherds could take a break from training, even during this peaceful spell. Chrom was now Exalt and father, and many of the Shepherds had taken upon a few more responsibilities to help the new family.
But, Fion pondered as they sat down on a log, perhaps this was as good of time as any to take a break. He had just finished a bit of training with the Ylissian cavalry, paused to take a breath before heading onto his next task.
“Is this seat taken?” A deep voice had asked him, a gentle cadence to it.
Fion turned his head to see Robin, a smile on his face as he awaited the bow knight’s response.
“Always, for you. I’m just enjoying the scenery before I head in for paperwork.”
“Oof, that’s rough.” Robin laughed as he sat next to them. “But, it is a beautiful day.”
And the scenery was indeed beautiful, as seasons changed to chillier weather. The air was crisp as the falling leaves, which were an array of reds and oranges and yellows. The air seemed to be filled with something cozy, although a bit chilly as Fion let it pass through him, sure the drying sweat from his training didn’t help to keep him warm.
Robin took notice of this as well, and held his arm out to Fion. “Though I guess it is a bit cold. Wanna come here?”
“H-huh? I mean, yes! If you don’t mind, that is.”
Robin smiled, the type that crinkled the corners of his eyes, “Always, for you.”
They blushed at their own words being tossed back at them in such a teasing manner, but despite that, they scooted over towards Robin, who tucked them into his coat. He was, indeed, much warmer than they were, probably fresh from the warmth of the castle, too. They hoped he didn’t mind them nuzzling closer, but he only did respond by tightening his hug on them.

Okay maybe this doesn’t entirely fit the theme, but as I was writing this took a COMPLETELY different turn than I was expecting so. Yay.
Safeshiptember Day 12: Decorating
Taglist: @dango-daydreams
“Are you sure? I think it looks more like a bird!” Lu exclaimed, pointing out how she saw the cloud, showing off the long neck and beak she noticed.
“But where are its wings?”
“Um… there!”
“That’s all the way across the sky!”
“Well, maybe he left his wings over there!”
They burst into laughter, moving to face each other, eyes softening as they met the other’s gaze.
It was a long day, and the two decided to let off some steam by going to the riverbank, whether for acting purposes or just to lay on their backs and watch clouds, neither of them could tell what the original intent was at this point.
Lu sighed, taking in every part of Sakuya’s features, from the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled this wide to the soft blush dotting his cheeks. The way he held her hand, his thumb ever so gently rubbing over her knuckles. Every bit of him was perfect to her, and she longed to stay this way forever.
“Lu?” Sakuya asked softly, breaking the silence.
“What’s up?”
“Do you think about living together one day?”
It seems as if he had the same idea, of wanting to last forever. Lu chuckled.
“More often than my studies, that’s for sure.”
“I’m glad you do too,” he sighed, staring back up at the sky with a dreamy gaze, “but focus on your work, too, okay?”
“I do, I do, don’t worry.”
“Good.”
Another comfortable silence. A time to listen to each other’s breathing, the wind blowing through the trees, the chatter of people passing by. An invitation to let time pass, not needing any form of language to fill it.
Even still, Lu wondered.
“Saku, what kind of place would we get?”
“An apartment, I guess. At least what with the way the world works and how hard it’d be to get a house.”
“True, true. But would you wanna get a house one day, when we could?”
“Of course! It’d be nice to have some space, plus room for any other new members of the household,” he replied, a far-off look in his eye.
“So you’ll actually let us steal the cats in the courtyard?” Lu joked, elbowing him.
“I was thinking, like, a baby, actually,” he said meekly, avoiding eye contact to stare back up at the clouds.
“A baby… Like, a human baby?”
“Well, not now, obviously! But when we’re older and Mankai isn’t our main priority, I think it would be nice, you know? I already knew I wanted kids, but now that you’re here, it sounds even better and-“
“That sounds wonderful.”
“You’re okay with it?”
“I mean, I’ve never been one for kids, but you’ve already got the job at the daycare, and I know you’d want at least one kid to have a good childhood, so why not make it ours? I’d be happy to raise a child with you, my love,” she stated, punctuating it with a kiss to his knuckle.
“You’re sure?”
“So long as you don’t abandon me or the kid, of course!”
Sakuya’s face grew grim.
“Too much?”
“Too much.”
“I’m sorry,” Lu said solemnly, letting go of his hand.
Sakuya hesitated, unsure of how to feel. For now, it would be easier to just forget, knowing she would most likely tone things down after this.
“It’s alright. I won’t. Ever,” he promised, lacing his fingers between hers.
“I know you won’t, I trust you,” she replied, locking her eyes with his.
“Back to the house, what kind of place would you want?”
Lu’s eyes gained a mischievous glint.
“A mansion.”
“Lu!”
She burst into a fit of giggles.
“Okay, okay, I’ll be serious. Mostly.”
“So?”
“I don’t know, just some average place, not too big, not too small,” she mused, looking back to the blue sky as it slowly faded into shades of pink.
“That works.”
“Who’ll be in charge of interior design?”
The two fell silent again, knowing that neither of them were particularly good at the craft.
“Compromise?” Lu suggested.
“Compromise,” Sakuya agreed.
“So, like, pink walls? Everywhere?”
“I guess that wouldn’t be too bad,” he figured.
“And a chandelier.”
“We can barely afford that!”
“Not now.”
“Not ever!”
The two laughed once more, the tension dissipating in an instant.
“Well, whatever we have to settle on, I’m sure it’ll be great,” Lu said after catching her breath.
“Of course it will,” Sakuya agreed, giving her hand a squeeze.
It was true. Whatever their future held, the two of them knew it would be wonderful simply because the other would be by their side, two halves of a single fate.
