i think about this post by @sabrgirl a lot, and i've been giving it some thought because it's such an interesting perspective and so cute?
came to a conclusion that my own answer is a mix ( which i find natural, frankly ), because it's so comforting to be in sujood and somehow, there is always a right verse or a right video i come across in the time of need. it always made me feel like my issues are known and heard, and like i am getting my own special reassurance on things. like Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ has got my back and sees and acknowledges my struggles.
right now, i'm trying to put more time into prayer and Qur'an so as to take opportunity of what's left of ramadan, and i hope it's a habit that will stick even after. i am so into this whole idea of 'romanticising' time with Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ. i get to make a cup of coffee and read what my Lord has said. how amazing is that? and i don't even have to say anything because He knows it all already. this ramadan has really been a struggle for me and i'm just trying to build this communication.
a little bit of a ramble, i suppose, but i felt like writing down my thoughts. it's been very nice and encouraging to see some other blogs share snippets of their ramadan, experience and relationship with Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ. in a world where media represents our religion as something strict and harsh, and where haram police gets overwhelming, it's been so nice to just read about people who come back home and tell God about their day.

12 March 2024, Tuesday
These pictures have been in my drafts since last years Ramadan challenge oops. It was first day back at work today and I was super sleepy/unfocused without any water to get me through. I’m hoping that’ll change as the days go by though!
Day 2: What are your other obligations this month? How does it compare to previous years? How do you balance them with ramadan?
Thankfully I don’t have academic obligations anymore (the days of academic suffering with a full time job is behind me), and my office work also isn’t that demanding these few days. And my mom takes care of everything in the house so I would say I’m pretty lucky 🥹 She doesn’t ask us to help or assign us anything as such but we just help her and the remaining time I have is free for worship.
Day 2 sabrgirl ramadan challenge:
Recite durood sharif 3 times ✅

You might have already read these but if not, please read these two substack posts by sabrgirl. I also can't fast due to illness and they helped me so much. She talks about those ayat from Surah Baqarah that you posted about <3
https://sabrgirl.substack.com/p/ramadan-series-thoughts-feelings
https://sabrgirl.substack.com/p/ramadan-series-reflections
Thanks for sending these! How kind of you to send this hoping for me to feel better 💞💞 Reading through these have made me feel a lot less alone but also a bit sad that others are also struggling in the same way </3 but also grateful for ppl like you and @sabrgirl) for being vulnerable and sharing your experiences to make ppl like me feel like it's not just me who is struggling in Ramadan while everyone else is living their best lives (which is such a big thing tbh). May Allah reward you both Actually this issue (worship vs. illness) isn't new for me, for the past 4-ish years I've had to grapple through it but I've gained a lot of perspective because of it too. Lol the reason I was especially heartbroken about it recently (despite going thru it before) is that Allah has given me miracles in Ramadan (Similarly to what is mentioned in the post you sent!) where I am suddenly back to normal for the month lol so this month I was kind of hoping for that miracle again (how entitled of me lol)
This month in a lecture I learned about how sometimes you might feel a connection to a specific type of worship and feel a high when you do it, but then other times, Allah might take that feeling away to see if you are still consistent in that deed - to see if you are really seeking Allah or if you are just seeking that deed, and it really really struck a chord within me. They also talked about how this might be Allah giving you a chance to explore other types of worship. And that has helped me a lot this Ramadan too!
I still get upset sometimes though, but you know, I think it's normal. I just think of those sahaba that were too poor to contribute anything when the prophet (s.a.w) was going to tabuk, and they were willing to go on the expedition, but there weren't enough supplies and transportation for them to go, they began to cry and became known as 'the criers.' Allah revealed an ayah for them:
"Nor [is there any blame on] those who came to you [O Prophet] for mounts, then when you said, 'I can find no mounts for you,' they left with eyes overflowing with tears out of grief that they had nothing to contribute" [Quran, 9:92]
Just as Allah thought their tears noteworthy to mention in the Qur'an, my tears / grief at not being able to fast may (inshallah) get me greater reward than maybe the fasting would have. And Maybe that is why Allah made it that way for me (and the rest of us who can't fast). There is that saying that patience in adversity is sometimes easier than gratitude during times of ease maybe. Allahumma Ameen may Allah accept our efforts.

how to maintain a tahajjud routine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
trying to wake up for tahajjud + fajr is something that i've been trying to do consistently, especially as it's winter and the days are shorter. this can be hard with my uni studies/lectures and other commitments when I just want to sleep for longer and not wake up. however, these are some things that help me form a routine:
sleep early this means that you're getting enough sleep to not be as tired when you wake up. try and go to sleep around the same time every night so that when you do wake up for tahajjud, your body adjusts over time to this new routine. i tried to be asleep by 11pm and my body naturally started to wake me up around 5-5:30am because of this, alhamdulillah.
setting multiple alarms i am that girl who will wake up her whole house with alarms before it even wakes her up. if i want to wake up at 5:45, i set them for 5:40, 5:45, 5:50, 6:00 and eventually i get tired of snoozing them all and just get out of bed.
repeating 'prayer is better than sleep' in my head sometimes it is so tempting to say 'i'll get up in 5 minutes...' and then that 5 minutes turn into 2 hours. when having the urge to say this to myself and close my eyes, i try and battle it by repeating that phrase in my head which reminds me the blessings of salat and helps me get out of bed.
waking up 30 minutes before fajr by the time i finish praying tahajjud, it is fajr time and i get to complete the first prayer on time as well. this will make it feel easier as you're not waking up in the middle of the night and then going back to sleep and missing fajr or having to wake up for it again - you get to pray both around the same time.
doing something after fajr before a nap sometimes it's hard to go back to sleep after fajr on the days where I start university late/it's the weekend but i still want some rest. i started to do some reading after fajr to make me sleepy so that in an hour or two, i'd go back to sleep for another 2 hours and wake up feeling well rested and continue with the rest of the day. i'm always the most productive on these days. of course, it depends on your life schedule and what is going on in your life as well.
reading about the blessings of tahajjud understanding this makes me want to pray tahajjud even more as i know the benefits and beauty of waking up in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep and Allah has descended to the lowest heaven in the third part of the night. it makes me want to wake up and be close to Him.
these are just what work for me. if these do not work for you, try and see what does and Insha’Allah you will form your own routine. may Allah make it easy for us all, Ameen.

ramadan 30 day challenge
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
introducing the ramadan 30 day challenge!
I made this challenge in the hopes of catering to as many people as I can - so, regardless of anyone's home situation, health, money, whether or not you live near a mosque or a community etc, I think it is somewhat do-able or adaptable for all! you can access anything you need for this (verses/surahs from the Qur'an for eg) online. I also know that for some people (depending on countries etc), ramadan is either 29 or 30 days, so it's fine to finish on the 29th day if necessary.
if you miss a couple days as well (or end up seeing this post halfway through ramadan), just pick up from whatever day of ramadan it is!
it starts off easy and gets harder as you go along! i'm also going to be doing this ramadan challenge and posting my own updates on here, Insha’Allah! if you do this too, please do tag me because I would love to see how people are getting on! ♡ here it is:
recite surah ikhlas 3 times
recite durood sharif 3 times
read Qur'an after asr
recite the 3 Quls (last 3 surahs of the Qur'an) in the evening/before sleeping today
listen to an islamic podcast
write down 5 things you are grateful to Allah for on paper or phone notes app
istighfar 100 times
read all of surah mulk before bed
wake up for tahajjud and pray (at least) 2 rakaats
learn 5 names/attributes of Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ
do something nice for somebody else - can even be very small and will still be rewarded for it
wear your favourite abaya/thobe/modest clothing for every salah today. look your best for Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ in your prayer like you would to go to a special event
give some (charity) sadaqah (create a sadaqah jar/box!)
read the last 2 verses of surah baqarah before sleeping
make a du'a for your friends and family - name them and pray for something specific for each of them
read all of surah Ya Sin after fajr
pray 2 nafl rakaats (voluntary prayer) today after the 2 sunnah rakaats of zuhr
no backbiting/gossiping about anyone at all and 2 nafl rakaats (voluntary prayer) if you do
pick a surah from the Qur'an and read the commentary for each verse
memorise the dua to recite on laylatul qadr اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun, tuhibbul 'afwa, fa'fu 'anni "O Allah, You are indeed Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me."
donate to a charity (for palestine!!). even the smallest amount will be beneficial + rewarded by Allah
recite ayatul kursi after each 5 fard (obligatory) salah
pray all the 12 sunnah today: 2 rakaats before Fajr; 4 rakaats before zuhr and two rakaats after; 2 rakaats after Maghrib; and 2 rakaats after Ishaa
pray (at least) 2 rakaats of taraweeh (either at the mosque or at home by yourself/with family!)
pray 2 rakaats of duha (optional) prayer - it is between 15 minutes after sunrise until zuhr time. (not after zuhr!!)
recite subhanallahi wabihamdi, subhanallahil adheem 100 times - (Glory be to Allah and all praise is due to Him, glory be to Allah, the Great)
be extra modest today (tailored to you. wear hijab outside if you don't, or wear your loosest outfit or lower your gaze completely (including lowering it on social media) today etc. whatever being extra modest is for you, do that today).
pray on time, no procrastination or delays. check what local time each prayer is for you and pray then (unless you're praying at the mosque!)
istighfar x1000 times
pray some of the nawafil ON TOP OF all the sunnah prayers that accompany the 5 obligatory prayers: - 2 rakaats of duha prayer - 2 rakaats after the 2 sunnah rakaats of zuhr - 4 rakaats before asr - 2 rakaats after the 2 sunnah rakaats of maghrib - 2 rakaats after the 2 sunnah rakaats of ishaa (extra challenge: wake up for tahajjud too)
level extreme: if you want an extra extra challenge, you can continue doing each one every day as you go along. so day 1 would be recite surah ikhlas 3 times and day 2 would be recite surah ikhlas and durood sharif 3 times, day 3 would be recite surah ikhlas and durood sharif 3 times and read Qur'an after asr... and you get the gist. if you do this, good luck on day 30 when you have 30 things to do lol
note: giving sadaqah (charity) can be adapted if donating money is a struggle - for eg, doing dhikr on behalf of somebody else can count as sadaqah. click here for more info on this.
may Allah make this challenge easy for whoever intends to participate and let the deeds indeed be multiplied by 100 this ramadan and forgive us for our shortcomings, Ameen ♡

when your heart hurts
pray
go into sujood on your prayer mat and pour your heart out. He is always listening and there is nothing more comforting and relieving than venting everything out to Allah SWT.
understand that it is okay to cry.
read Surah Yusuf/Surah Maryam/Surah Duha. the lesson to take from these are so comforting and a reminder to have sabr as it will always be okay in the end in ways you can't possibly imagine. because He will make it okay.
breathe in, close your eyes and say 'Oh Allah, I trust that only you can take this pain away from my heart' and breathe out.
having sabr and tawakkul does not mean you won't have bad days where it hurts but it is trying your best to continue and leaving the outcome to Allah SWT. it is trusting that He will bring the ease. because He will.

7 tips in getting closer to Allah SWT
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
read the Qur'an everyday reading the word of Allah and understanding what you are reading will make you feel close to Him as you know that this is not a Book that anyone has just written - it has come directly from Allah SWT. subhanallah. reading and understanding what He says will make you want to practise what the Qur'an says and, in turn, be closer to Him.
be around people who remember Allah human beings have great influence on each other so it is important to have righteous people around you. their relationship with Allah SWT will inspire you to build and improve yours.
understand what you recite in salah knowing what you are reciting will help you understand how many blessings you are gaining with just a single prayer. take time to learn the translation (if you do not speak/understand arabic) of what you are reciting and why.
learn Allah's 99 names and attributes 'And to Allah alone belong all perfect attributes; so call on Him by these' (7:181) Allah likes it when we call Him by his names and it is important to recognise and understand Him. think of Him as your friend: when you get to know someone better, you get closer to them. it is the same thing, in fact, better, with Allah SWT.
have secret good deeds between you and Allah again, like having a friend, having something that is just between you and your Lord will make you feel closer to Him.
make lots of du'a - especially in sujood having your dua's come true is the best feeling, especially when you have been praying for something for a long time, alhamdulillah. praying for anything, no matter how big or small, will make you feel closer to Him as you know that He alone will make everything okay and knows what is best for you.
remember death and prepare for it this one can be very hard but it is important to remember that death can come at anytime so always try and do good deeds and live righteously in order to please Allah. when having this mindset that each day is a new chance to seek forgiveness and do good deeds, you will feel closer to Him by wanting Him to be happy with you.

ten stages of a Muslim believer ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Surely, men who submit themselves to God and women who submit themselves to Him, and believing men and believing women, and obedient men and obedient women and truthful men and truthful women, and men steadfast in their faith and steadfast women, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their chastity and women who guard their chastity, and men who remember Allah much and women who remember Him — Allah has prepared for all of them forgiveness and a great reward" (33:36)
if you think about this quote, you might see that these 10 attributes actually lead on from each other. they're almost like different stages one after the other that ultimately lead to a complete devotion to Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ and a way of living. for example:
submission to 'submit' means to accept. so submitting requires one to accept the truth of Allah through reason and common sense. for example, you look around in the world and think - 'there is definitely a Creator who made all of this'. it's common sense. so you submit yourself to Allah.
believe this submission leads to the belief in Allah. to believe, you combine your emotions and feelings with reason. you're not just accepting that there is a God, you truly believe in Him.
obey your belief in God then leads you to obey Him. He is your Lord. you've submitted, you believe and now you're attracted towards your Creator and you love Him and want to please Him. so you obey His commands.
be truthful obeying Him now means that you take on certain attributes, honesty being one of them. you face trials and tribulations but remain honest. you tell the truth even when it's hard.
be patient the trials and tribulations that you face in this life now give you sabr, a beautiful realisation that you're free from the love of wordly things and instead, understand that this life is a temporary abode. so you're patient and take hardship on for His sake as you wait for the great reward of the true life, the true home. Jannah.
be humble however, through these trials and through patience, you still remain humble. you understand that as humans, we are weak and Allah is completely perfect and have humility in prayer and are free from arrogance in your heart towards other people.
give charity being patient and humble now make you realise that you should be selfless and give to others, share your blessings with those who are less fortunate than you
fast this is also a sacrifice, a greater sacrifice than just giving money. you sacrifice your needs - food and water - to attain righteousness, be more conscious of the blessings He provides and for a reminder of those less fortunate than us. that comes with being humble and patient.
be chaste a believer also guards themselves to block out any access to sin, are morally pure in all ways - physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually chaste and pure. this also comes with submitting, believing, obeying, patience, humility and selfless acts as they make you more righteous, and in turn, make you want to be chaste
remember God through having these attributes and making these actions, you remember Allah through it all. you praise Him, you do it for His sake. not to show other people, but are so engrossed in his Bounty that you remember Him with all that you do. everything reminds you of Him. there's nothing that doesn't remind you of Him.

dua's to recite after praying ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tasbih: - subhanallah x33 - alhamdulillah x33 - Allah akbar x33  - followed by Laa ilaaha ill-Allah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulku wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (there is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner. to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He has power over everything)
it is narrated by Abu Huraira that if anyone extols Allah after every prayer thirty-three times, and praises Allah thirty-three times, and declares His Greatness thirty-three times, ninety-nine times in all, and says to complete a hundred: “There is no god but Allah, having no partner with Him, to Him belongs sovereignty and to Him is praise due, and He is Potent over everything,” his sins will be forgiven even if these are as abundant as the foam of the sea. (Sahih Muslim 597a)
Istighfar: - astaghfirullah x3
Ayatul Kursi
Hadith: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death will prevent him from entering Paradise."
لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin (There is no God but You, Holy art Thou. I have indeed been of the wrongdoers).
لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
Laa hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is no strength of power except Allah)
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ حُسْنَ الْخَاتِمَةِ
Allahumma inni asaluka husnul khatima (O Allah, grant me a good and beautiful end to my life).
Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oothu bika minal-hammi walhazani, wal’ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, wa dhala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men, i.e. others).
there are, of course, many others. these are just a select few to avoid overwhelm and to encourage. there is a hadith that says, if, after praying, one stays on their prayer mat and does not break their wudhu (ablution), the angels keep on asking for Allah's blessings and forgiveness for them. they say 'O Allah! Forgive him and be Merciful to him'. (Sahih al-Bukhari 659)
this is why it is important and good to remain in your place for a while after praying and remember Allah. these dua's are good to start with. may Allah make it easy for us all, Ameen

menstruation cycles and ibadah ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a few months back, i listened to a podcast about menstruation cycles and islam. the woman calculated that as the average period is 7 days and there's 12 months in a year, 50 of which are spent menstruating (on average), that's 4200 days that you're not praying. which is 11 years of a woman's life not in worship. eleven.
it's extremely important to still maintain a connection with Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ even when you're on your period as you cannot afford to let those 11 years create a negative balance
sometimes not maintaining a connection with Allah during your period can also affect your worship when your cycle has finished. sometimes i found myself losing concentration in my salah when i could pray again because i hadn't prayed for a whole week and hadn't been doing any other forms of ibadah that i could've been doing during it. that's when i realised how crucial it is to not forget Allah and take a break from worship and Islam just because you can't pray and touch the Qur'an.
here is a link to one of my posts i made of things women can do when their on their periods to still be in some sort of worship.
two of the easiest ones are:
finding some time to do dhikr - you can do this anywhere and anytime in your heart and remember Allah, reciting subhanallah, istigfar, alhamdulillah and/or learning His 99 names
reading the Qur'an on your devices online and listening to it
may Allah make it easy for us, Ameen ♡
