RWBY has not all been "planned from the start" and Volume 9 proves this
An often had discussion in this community is whether or not RWBY has been planned from the very start, or at least, what is happening in the show. While these discussions sometimes come up in other fandoms especially if a story is known to have had production troubles or refocusing, RWBY has very intense disagreements on this issue in no small part due to its main creator passing away very early in the shows production.
Since i saw a relevant meme quite recently referencing this, i thought to expand a bit on the topic.
Some planning
Let us first acknowledge one important thing. A lot of aspects of the show HAVE been planned in advance. In our critic wiki you can find the "Monty Files" section in which you can see that Monty pre-planned a lot of RWBY before anyone else even knew about it. He kept art portfolios, ideas etc.
While there were definitely things that he would sometimes add on a whim, a lot of things we see in the show, or at least saw in the early volumes of the show were definitely there for a reason.
The reason i am saying it is because i have sometimes seen takes in critical communities of RWBY about how nothing of the show is planned and casting various aspersions, even going so far as saying that the map of RWBY is "shit" because it wasnt properly planned and was first made on a napkin. Which is half of the story, since what started on a napkin was then converted and modified into an actual map, proving the planning in advance of the show.
And at the very least Volumes 8-9 were pre-planned and writen as Volumes themselves. As in, the episodes and Volumes were written and planned BEFORE the production started.
Ideas are not plans
What i have often heard about Volume 9 is that it was "planned" for a long time, that it was "planned" from since before the show even started. And i am of the opinion that calling it all being "planned" is a very incredible overstating of reality.
The fact that the showrunners themselves admited to having no idea WHERE to put this volume alone shows that it was not "planned". If it was planned the volume would have had a definitive place in the story where it can fit. That is what we call an idea, not a "plan". And this same thing applies to a lot of RWBY.
I think we have all heard that the volumes V3+ are being produced while referencing/using Montys RWBY "bible" that supposedly had 13 entire volumes in it. While i cannot cast doubt on those aspersions i can at the very least state that it is UNLIKELY that the "bible" contained coherent plans of how, where and why each Volume should happen. Many creators often have ideas that they write down for future usage, or things that they expect to cover. While i am no writer of shows even my threads start from simple outlines of what i should talk about.
The writers are also very adept at changing their writing on the fly or adding/removing things. Neo for example is one of the greatest examples of that. I sincerely doubt that Neo was always supposed to have the role that she has now. And yet now from a nameless henchman she became the main antagonist of an entire volume. Eddy since V7 has kind of become known for lampshading criticisms in the episodes that he writes, which very much show reactivity from the writing team, even if the result is less than desirable.
And we also should not forget the productions of Volumes 4-6. Which were written and made at least partially during the time that these Volumes were ALREADY airing. And my god people really cant talk about RWBY being "planned" when some of it was LITERALLY writen by the seat of their pants.
Something planned is no guarantee of quality
This is a bit tangential but i needed to get this out too. I have seen many a critic fall into the trap of arguing what exactly in the show is planned or not. In reality, it does not matter when discussing the merits or failures of certain episodes or scenes.
Some of the best moments in television for example are very much improvized. Some games see bugs turned into features or changed into something that fits the game. Anime and animated shows are no different in this regard.
Something being planned/intended or not does not matter to the end result of the thing. Whether its actually good or not to the person perceiving it. Why focus on criticizing BB for being or not being planned? Its irrelevant. Regardless if BB was planned or not, its still a shit romance. Does it matter if Neo was planned or not? Not really, as both her and Roman were very much impromptu additions in V1-V3, Neo with being a completely new character and Roman getting a bigger role than he was supposed to have.
The only time the discussions about RWBY being planned or not should occur really is when some RWBY fanatics decide to praise the show to high heavens for things the show never did/had. Which is sadly pretty common.
Ending Word
So yeah, anyone talking about the show being "planned" is just perpetuating an undying myth about the show that is as false as it is never ending. At the end of the day though, in terms of critique of the show matters little however. Is it fine to point out that RWBY seemingly has problems due to lack of planning and impromptu writing/production? Yeah. But that should never be the focus of any critique and more often than not serves to just distract people from the more important points of discussion.

with only three episodes left, what do you think is in store for the rest of the volume? personally, i’m having trouble imagining a solid resolution fitting into such a small window. not that i doubt there’s a way to end this volume succinctly—rwby is always throwing curveballs i could’ve never predicted hitting, which i love—but i suppose the hangnail in resolution’s cuticle is that jrwby are all finally facing their lifelong, beaten-in worldview being turned on its head and that seems like the kind of thing (on top of neo’s untold ever after story) that needs more time to be resolved. in which case, ig we’re not looking at a clean wrap up? do you think they end this volume ascending the ever after? escaping back to remnant? (i ask those two questions separately bc i wanna say they might have different answers lol)
as a point of comparison, here’s everything (not necessarily in chronological order) that happened in the last three episodes of V8:
1 - ironwood vs everyone beat down
2 - winter heel face turn completed
3 - met ambrosius + staff of creation rules
4 - magic rules lawyered penny into a flesh body to save her from the virus with a side dish of horrible body horror robot body death scene and holy shit atlas is FALLING.
5 - creation of whacky portals for evacuation to vacuo
6 - emergency evacuation broadcast CANCELLED!
7 - cinder remembers the power of friendship and uses it for evil
8 - cinder recovered the lamp and scored the password and used the last question to spy on team oz which is fucking hysterical by the way, so she knows the entire plan
9 - YANG DIES?
10 - ruby and blake fall too. and neo
11 - the evacuation dumps everyone in a sandstorm so they can’t call for backup and also the exit is one-way (“oh dear. ambrosius \:” love that enthusiasm sir)
12 - HARRIET TRIES TO NUKE MANTLE?
13 - ironwood murders jacques
14 - eleventh hour harriet heel face turn also zeki dies because atlesian tech goons thought the nuke needed to be plugged into the IOT for some reason god bless
15 - PENNY???
16 - and winter becomes the winter maiden
17 - TEAM RWBY TOTAL PARTY KILL!!
18 - jaune also
19 - salem and cinder playing chicken over who is going to blink first like they don’t both already know that it’s going to be salem
20 - ATLAS OBLITERATED FOREVER
that’s a lot of things!
now, it’s a lot easier to set up and execute a dense, tightly-paced climactic spiral of disaster than bring a lot of interconnected emotional crises to satisfying resolution in the same amount of runtime—but on the other hand, V9 has a lot less going on. it doesn’t FEEL that way because the emotional development has been so rich and done so, so well, but there honestly are not that many narrative threads to tie off. basically, the big ones are:
1 - ruby’s emotional crisis
2 - jaune’s corruption
3 - neo
4 - how do we get home?
5 - what do we do once we get there?
compared to the sheer amount of dominoes V8 had to juggle, handling this stuff is a nice little walk.
the key thing to remember—& this has been true for every one of rwby’s climactic sequences and also counts as writing advice—is that none of these major threads are truly discrete. they’re all interwoven with each other and bound together with all the smaller filaments (like the cat’s arc or little’s arc or the framing device of ‘the girl who fell through the world’ and what really went down with alyx and the tree), so you don’t have to resolve them separately and indeed you can’t because it all has to happen at once. what this means, from a writing standpoint, is you layer up and make every scene work towards the resolution of two or three major threads and however many minor filaments you can fit comfortably so that everything is doing work for everything else. if you’re efficient you don’t need a lot of time to pull off a stunning climactic sequence, and efficiency is something rwby has always been very, very good at. this is true even of V1 even though V1 feels laughably inefficient by the standards of V8; which is to say, they started off good and got much better.
the other piece to bear in mind is that V9 is not meant to be self-contained; it is not a character-focused breather volume to let the protagonists heal up before returning to remnant to carry on as they were, it is The Answer. when rwbyjn go home they are not going to return to the story they fell out of at the end of V8. that story is OVER. it ENDED. the final word was checkmate and the world they knew is GONE FOREVER. salem WON. the ever after is an epilogue to that story and the prologue for another; it isn’t building towards a resolution so much as it is building a hook.
(<- remember V3 “beginning of the end” and “end of the beginning”? this story-within-story device is something rwby has utilized before; this show is a singular contiguous narrative in the literal sense, but it’s structured as a trilogy.)
so V9 needs to be a satisfying farewell to the middle book and also make the case for continuing on to the third and final story—which very much works to its benefit here, because the sweeping emotional changes being developed actually SHOULDN’T be resolved. a clean wrap up would critically weaken the narrative structure. the immediate crises need to be realized—there must be a moment of peace, of closing one book and beginning the next; a hopeful glimpse of the story to come, of what it could be—and then they go home. and the new story begins.
in the figurative sense you could call it ascension. in the literal sense, no, i don’t think any of the remnant characters are going to ascend because i don’t think they can (frankly i’m bemused as to why so many people seem to believe otherwise; it seems to me that the cat has made it very clear that ascension is closed to non-afterans). but the idea of ascension? oh, yes, they’re carrying that forward with them.
as for whether they’ll return to remnant—yes. i think the probability that they don’t find their way home by episode ten is zero. how they return is an open question but also not a question at all, because the tree is the question and their answer is the door; this has been spelled out, explicitly, albeit in wonderlandish terms. what we don’t know yet is what this will look like, because the tree is also the blacksmith and the ever after runs on wonderland rules. it’s not going to be literal. (<- unless abstraction is less absurd than the literal option, which is possible given the likelihood that the ever after itself is fictional.)

Fun ask: What are your favorite weapons in RWBY and in what order?
This is actually a pretty easy for me. I'll talk about 4 (see what i did there?) in particular from my least favorite up to my favorite.
Ember Celica: One of the few Gauntlet Weapons in the show & in my opinion, it's the best one. First of all, i like the design. A pair of golden bracelets that can turn into bulky, yet cool looking Gauntless that shoot shotgun rifles by THROWING A PUNCH! (well, until V6, but we don't talk about that scene in the end). I think this is a great representation of Yang's personality & it goes well with her Semblance. If she has to use her BODY to take hits, then she'll use her FISTS to deliver even STRONGER hits. It's a pretty good use of the "The best offense is a good defense" trope, which i appreciate. It's also a good way to show how smart Yang is since SHE'S the one who build it, imagine how much time & effort Yang had to put into making this weapon considering how dangerous it actually is?
Ozpin's Cane (which doesn't have a canon name as far as i can remember): Despite it's simple design, i like the way it's used like a rapier most of the time & above all else, the lore & history behind it. As Ozma passed on from host to host, he imbued his life force into the cane so that when the time is right, he'll use its true power... & BOY, did Volume 8 DELIVER on that front.
Crescent Rose: This probably wouldn't been as high as it is now for it not for V9, especially in the last chapter. I definitely LOVE Crescent Rose, it's an incredible design that's iconic. It made a Scythe that's also a Sniper, 2 things that SHOULDN'T work together, ACTUALLY work. But then we go to Volume 9, where it's used as a way to challenge Ruby's idendity, which i LOVE. I can't wait to see what the rest of V9 has in-store for her, especially Casey's recent tweet about next episode being "Edge City"... Oh boi...
Harbinger: This is LITERALLY Ragna The Bloodedge's Weapon, but with a Shotgun feature, how can i NOT love it?! Whenever i see Qrow fight with it, i ALWAYS think to myself that the writers (especially Monty back when he was alive, RIP) played A LOT of fighting games when developing some RWBY characters & their weapons. Look at Penny for example, she's a CLEAR reference & homage to Nu-13 from Blazblue. Can't say i blame them for it, this shit is lit! I also like how the scythe form of Harbinger itself is rarely used in the show, as if it's only used when Qrow is going to fight seriously, which is always hype. It's not as plot thematic as the last 3, but it's definitely the coolest & most fun to watch out of these 4 weapons i mentioned... & Now i want a scene where Qrow & Ragna are shooting the shit in a bar. Someone write a fanfic about that, i'd read it! XD

V9 Ep1
okay! Chores are one so its RWBY time lessgo
1) okay right off the bat the first person perspective, music and editing are top fucking notch for this opening. The rising panic is palpable and it gets across how it must have felt to be trapped in a situation that’s getting worse by the second without having time to process the last horrific life changing event before a new one happens. I haven't seen something that well made from this show in a WHILE full props to the creative team for this one.
However, I do really want to see a behind- the-scenes clip of how this was animated from a third person perspective. Hysterically, shots like this are either animated by having two disembodied arm models fixed just behind the camera, or by using the actual character model but either distorting the neck or removing the head entirely so you don’t get any clipping. Either way it’ll be fucking hilarious.
2) that water is fucking beautiful, we sure have come a ways from the flat blue plane of V1
3) two suns? Is that a metaphor?
4) I’m not gonna point out every well crafted shot because from what I’ve seen so far I might be here a while, this episode in particular seems to be going out of it’s way to have varied, intentional shot composition but this shot?
Tumblr media
Rubes tiny and isolated in a strange world? Physically surrounded by a dark unknown forest? That some good shit right there.
5) oh god the plant models. They’re excellent and the set design for this forest is perfect but I really hope that the staff were given adequate time to design and model them all….
6) aye, rubes. I don’t think that “keep moving forward” is the best way to deal with this one.
7) I will withhold my judgement until they’ve had more screen-time but, yeah little is really annoying.
8) “what happened after we fell?” nothing good blake, nothing good.
9) again, top notch animation, and the gang is back together way sooner that I was expecting. I’m gonna say that’s a good thing. Following four different plot-lines probably wouldn’t have worked.
10) don’t dodge the question weiss. I know you’re trying to be kind but you’re not gonna be able to put this off forever, and the longer you wait the worse it’s gonna be.
11) is that the jabberwocky? It’s… fine. The muscle texture looks cool but beyond that I’m not getting the “nightmare fuel”. according to the op it looks like it’s going to be more of a consistent antagonist though so there's still time for it to grow on me.
12) “if you thought we wouldn’t come for you, you must have forgotten who raised me” my HEART
13) also shout out to barbra for the line delivery on that “damn it” that was excellent.
14) if it were 2015 and I were still a 14 year old bee shipper I would have lost my mind at that hug. So for now I’ll just be happy for the people who ARE losing their minds.
15) “it must have gone pretty bad, huh?” Oh they’re addressing this NOW? I was expecting at least another episode of weiss tiptoeing around the topic before we got the reveal
16) oh shit ruby just went out like a lightswitch. Yeah that’s a pretty realistic reaction to hearing something like that, on top of the fact that volume 8 took place over like, what, four hours? No one here has had a chance to stop since salem showed up, they're all exhausted.
Considering this place is mindfuck central and we’re got a murderous shapeshifter milling around down here as well it’s really not going to take much for people to start losing their minds. And I mean, If this is wonderland “everyone’s mad down here” might end up being relevant.
17) blake stepping up as leader while ruby is out of action? Love to see it
18) ruby passing out from stress and then instantly pretending that nothing happened and refusing to let herself feel a human emotion? that’s my girl.
19) oh good fucking god. Yeah I understand completely why this took an extra year to make. I though the new assets for the forest were going to be it, but no it looks like we have five or six completely unique zones to this place. again, i REALLY hope that this wasn’t as hard on the animators as we’re all assuming it was.
20) i’m not gonna analyze the op because as a rule, i’m not a fan of them. but yeah, it looks like this is the beginning of the “ruby has a nervous breakdown” arc
aye, consider my thoroughly impressed. the filmaking for this episode was above an beyond what i was expecting. i can’t say i’m completely sold on the talking mice but i’m also not sure how literally we’re supposed to be taking what we’re seeing. from a lore perspective wonderland is... interesting to day the least. is this a separate world or a lower layer of reminant? was this created by the brothers or does this world have a different set of creators? humans and grimm don’t seem to exist here but the emotions of the characters do seem to have a physical affect on the environment, on top of that, the relics were explicitly created by the brothers to help humanity and atlas is the one that created those portals that brought us here in the first place. and atlas at least seemed to have some knowledge that wonderland was here considering he mentioned that falling would be bad. so, does this place have a connection to the power of the relics or was taking a detour through an alternate dimension just the quickest way to connect two portals?
my current theory as of episode one is that wonderland is the brother’s “WIP folder” so to speak, weird ideas and not quite finished creations that the brothers are keeping stored for a rainy day. like, the jabberwocky looks a lot like a first draft of what the grimm ended up being.

Nitpick #4: Power Scaling 2: Cinder and Neo
I guess this doesn't really qualify as a nitpick if you're going by Volume 8, because this was just the latest form of Writer Not Caring Syndrome and it is in fact a massive problem and really just the cherry on top of the Volume 8 sundae. But I guess it kind of becomes one if you just look at how Cinder and Neo are treated after eight straight volumes of having them around versus how they're treated now.
Cinder's threat level started to bleed out the second Volume 4 started with her crippled to the point of barely being able to speak or move, and her slip was compounded when she went up against Jaune (and did not kill him) and then Raven (who whooped her ass, largely without the maiden powers). Then Neo walked in and just threw hands with Cinder on the receiving end for like five straight minutes.
Not only is there a crap ton of fighting and growing done on the part of RWBYJNPR inbetween their meet-ups with Cinder, they do a lot more fighting than Cinder does, and they got super-awesome training at Atlas while working on the Amity project. It's kind of like the reverse of the Adam fight--Yang went 1v1 with him even though she hadn't done anything to get stronger or more capable since their last altercation, and she should realically be getting chopped up again. Cinder is in that same position--I'm pretty firm in the idea that any one of RWBY individually could take her at this point. Weiss certainly could, a fact that got (accidentally) compounded by the fact that she held Cinder off for a while with no freaking aura to her name. Even without the silver eyes, Ruby is way faster than her and has a gigantic scythe, and Blake and Yang have done a ton of fighting and have gotten upgrades to their arsenals (finally), so I feel like they'd at least stand a chance.
Yes, watching Neo troll the absolute fuck out of JNPR was hilarious, but I liked it because it showed that she's not really invincible and the heroes have come far enough to trip her up. Oscar punches her out, Jaune successfully repels her, and then Oscar just literally trips her up. She watches JNPR recover and come at her four on one, and decides it's time to book it, as she should.
Then, come Episodes 13 and 14 a volume later, Neo just trounces Ruby and Blake two-on-one. Blake should be an even match for Neo by now, especially with her dust clones, and Ruby should be able to take her. Was all that special Atlas training in that montage for nothing?
And then Cinder again... You can't show Cinder getting absolutely flattened by Penny even with Emerald's help, and then say that Cinder can solo her and several assisting friends just because she doesn't have giant lasers anymore.
The thing is, Cinder should be easy. She should! Even without her vulnerability to silver eyes, Cinder's left arm from the shoulder down is Grimm. It has no aura! All you'd have to do is keep pressure up attacking her from her left side and she'd go down easily enough, and fighters like Weiss, Blake, and Yang would all be able to take advantage of this in swordplay.
Cinder just isn't a believable threat anymore. Neo is at least interesting to watch in combat, but it's frustrating to sit here volume after volume and watch essentially nothing change.

The goddess of Bellabooty
Episode 4. Very strange episode that evokes (or recalls) a criticism I have towards Volume 9: Episodes too short. I don't want to go into too much detail about the episode because in itself there is nothing interesting to say ... They are simply other explanations. This is what people refer to as a "rookie mistake" because the mismanagement of an episode's time is really something frustrating to watch, because they are not "cliffangers" but just incomplete pieces of history. RWBY is going in this bad direction of being rushed until you get to Jaune (PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE THAT), and this is bad to see because episodes 2/3 were done with skill while in this one it goes back to the same mistakes of the series. Pacing can be slow too, and I accept that, but if you don't know the archetypes of the characters they're talking about (Alice in Wonderland) then you'll be forever confused by the intentions and motivations of the characters and what they're supposed to represent for the story, this borders on fanfic (if not plagiarism) of a story and RWBY is not. The characters are confronted with a version of themselves from the past (Dragon's Dogma?) which forces them to maintain the status quo. But this makes us see Ruby's doubt compared to that of the other 3, and I like this. But the problem is that then comes the cat who solves everything and ... see you in episode 5. And I should pay for it? I do not think so. Leaving the story open is important for audience reasons but in any case each episode must have a micro-story that fused with the macro-story should make the series something decent. In the episode there MUST be a beginning-development-ending story that allows the characters to evolve and makes the episode, in itself, important. Was this episode for nothing? Yes and no. In what sense? No = Because the characters still talk about themselves and still manage to give a psychological and macroscopic progression to the story; Yes = Because Ruby's doubt is something that had already been introduced at the beginning, it had already been confirmed by the cat and in the end it is reconfirmed by the caterpillar. So? There is no development but only… doubt. Here I am serious: If you read everything I write, without having seen the episode, you already know what happened and are already ready to move on. The place has changed, they meet 1 new character who disappears, and the cat learns what we already know. And here is the opposite of "show don't tell" because WE WASTE time knowing the cat's opinion on things we already know, you can send us 7/8 minutes in a 25 minute episode but not if it's 17 minutes of which 3 are invested for the outro and 1 for the intro therefore 13 total minutes. A whopping 76% of anime lost knowing things we already know. I am afraid. This could be yet another volume of disappointment. I hope not. However we have here the queen, the goddess of big asses, the bellabooty herself: BLAKE BELLADONNA! YAAAAAYYY!!! I already said that I am a fan of characters with short hair, and Blake has always given so much! And it's finally her week! Ha ha ha!

AND VOMIT BOY, JAUNE!!!!! TALL LANKY SILLY BOY. HE IS ALSO EVERYTHING (there's a pattern here, just assume that everyone in the main cast is everything to me because they are)
AND YEAH, WEISS IS,,, A LOT AT FIRST. SHE'S SUCH A BRAT, BUT IT DOES MAE ME CHUCKLE A LOT. ITS BEEN YEARS, BUT I STILL CONTINUE TO QUOTE HER V1 LINES ("it's 8:55 you dunce!!!!!!). SHE REALLY IS THE ICE QUEEN, AND WE LOVE HER FOR IT. she does get development later on though!
im also laughing at myself about your thoughts about who ruby is gonna get paired with.... hehehehehe
AND YEAH, LIKE I SAID EARLIER, THE FIRST THREE VOLUMES ARE MOSTLY JUST SILLY GOOFY TIMES AND I MISS IT SO MUCH. I'VE RECENTLY BEEN REWATCHING THE EARLY VOLUMES AND THEY LITERALLY HAVE ME CACKLING OUT LOUD, ITS SO FUNNY. i also forgot how quick the episodes are in v1, ITS CRAZY. i can't imagine being in the fandom during this and having to wait a week for a 5 minute episode HAHAHA
my apologies that my thoughts are everywhere in this response, bUT I HOPE THAT YOU CONTINUE TO ENJOY! :D

I feel sorry for Jaune, the ARC of that rock that was thrown being perfect to hit him in the head is such bad luck. Speaking of bad luck how about the entire rest of that episode, the villains knowing team RWBy's plan really de-Cinder-grated it's chance of working smoothly. Finally Neo's surprise attack was nasty and left one of the team unable to Yang on with her partner not even being able to Blake her fall.

Ok, please tell me where they are...
So, Rwby volume 8 episode 13 was big but like.....where are Maria and Pietro?
The last time we saw them was when Cinder attacked amity, so presumably their still at amity, right? Will they know to go though the portal to Vacuo? Nobody has even considered finding them, were they forgotten or something, we know their not dead because it showed Maria getting up after being attacked and Pietro was more concerned about Penny at the time...
They don’t know anything about the plan...

hmm so at this point we've connected the dots between ambrosius's warning, the "detour" in volume 9, and that shot near the end of the intro where team RWBY falls
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so now it's a matter of who exactly will fall (only Ruby or the whole team ? with Cinder ? Penny ? someone else ? and yeah obviously most of them can fly but that can depend on the situation), where they'll fall/land and what it is they will find there.
but in the whole rwby spoilers tag i've barely found any mentions of the other still breathtaking btw shots of the intro where we can clearly see a dark background and gold particles (with blue accents in the background, even closer to the vault-like space than the other shots where they're falling)

notice how they specifically showed scenes of their past ?
i think the theories about team RWBY facing their trauma once again or somehow seeing the past in volume 9 are onto something

Spoilers for the newest episode of rwby and heck most of volume 8
So I have some issues, why didn't ruby just flash her eyes and make cinder weak and run like a bitch like she did last volume, volume 7 showed her eyes activate almost instantly the moment she stared at cinder they kicked in after 3 seconds in volume 8 they start to light up and after 13 seconds nothing and yes I timed it because I'm a petty bitch.I don't think they have the balls to do anything to yang at this point and feel it's cheap to AGAIN make me think a main member of the shows name is in any real danger, why did Ruby show literally no emotion when her fucking sister seemingly fall into an endless void she fucking broke down into tears when Penny "died" and when pyrrha did but her own sister falls into some void and all she manages is to make a O.O face yeah I know she's in shock but so was she when her classmate died then powers kicked on. Also why didn't Ruby use her fucking Semblance to grab Yang? Better yet why did Weiss just stand there she wasn't fighting she was staring at cinder then when yang falls she's reaching out instead of using her runes to make her or Blake super fast to grab her. Like if they had showed both her and weiss trying and failing I won't be as upset but literally only Blake tried to help her.
