You ever think if Ironwood wasn’t out cold when they announced the planned to get everyone out safely including the relics and maiden powers, that he might’ve actually let the plan happen?
Tumblr media
Instead he wakes up to Jacques telling him that he’s failed because Jacques is a dumbass. Ever think about how despite the multiple plans thought of this volume, nobody told Ironwood any of them?
Ever think about how if anyone thought about the automated ships the Schnee’s had and nomadic tubes before Salem broke in the barrier that he might’ve considered waiting a moment because both solve the lack of manpower problems and let Atlas stay defended?
Maybe, just maybe, if anyone actually offered any alternative before choosing violence which resulted in Clover dying that anyone on his side might’ve fought harder to reason not leaving immediately, including Ironwood himself?
They really let this man think he had the only escape plan for the entire volume. Like I hate the things he did near the very end but it’s a bit hard for me to throw all the flack his way when not a soul bothered call him back before the bomb threat and say “Hey, I think we can solve both our problems.” Instead they internationally villianized him before the bomb threat then jumped him afterwards.
That’s kinda foul. 💀

One more hot take: I'm still a little upset that Yang and Blake told Robyn about Amity behind the teams backs.
Look, I get if this was a team decision to do this behind Ironwood's back. The guy was not the picture of stable, so it makes sense not to trust him. Hell, I don't exactly blame them for what happened after since that entire scene Ironwood's office was a case of bad luck. I like to think if Salem's Grimm wasn't thier, they would be able to talk things out. That said, what drives me crazy is that they decided to go behind their friends back's to tell Robyn without talking about it. That is a serious breach in trust to the people you consider family. Also, keep in mind they didn't know Robyn all that well. She could have been a spy for Salem for all they knew, but instead of discussing it, the two of them took the situation into their own hands. To top it all off, NO ONE CALLED THEM OUT ON THAT!! Ruby and the others had every right to call Yang and Blake out on their lack of trust, but they didn't. I don't even think Yang and Blake felt guilty, or at least they didn't show it. I'm sorry if this comes off as anti- Yang and Blake, but I can't get over it. Yang and Blake made a choice that violated the trust the others had in them, and it wasn't talked about. I'm hopping it gets addressed in Vol 9.

RWBY THEORY
I know fairytales have different versions but in the version I've always heard of Little Red Riding Hood, when Little Red gets to her grandma's house, the wolf is already there, it ate the grandma and is now impersonating her. In the end the wolf is cut open and the grandma is inside.
So we know Salem is putting silver eyed people inside of grimm
And we know that Summer might be there too
So, by this logic, Summer Rose could the grandma
Meaning that there's a chance that, in the future of the series we might get a Grimm impersonating Summer and/or Summer alive(?) inside the Grimm

Let him leave
Ironwood:Salem’s here. Not prepared for it. I’m gonna leave.
Ruby:But Mantle!
Ironwood:Fuck Mantle. We saved who we could. Time to leave with things Salem wants.
Ruby:Nope.
Ironwood:…Ruby, I am not fighting the boogeywoman just to die and give her everything.
Ruby:Well we have Penny now.
Ironwood:…
Ironwood:Ruby, let my people go.
Ruby:We make our stand here! Go for broke. Save everyone.
Ironwood:The fu- I’m still not sending troops to get people. I can’t do that and fight effectively. Let. Me. Leave. Do not hold a kingdom hostage.
Ruby Video: “Don’t trust Ironwood”
Ironwood:That’s not- I want to leave!
Salem:I’m in your walls now.
Ironwood:RUBY!
Ruby:Why isn’t Atlas helping!?
Ironwood:SHE IS IN THE WALLS! Bringing people up here definitely won’t stop that. Let me leave. We are out numbered!
Ruby:We can save Atlas and Mantle, just like I said, let’s stand and fight! We’ll get people up to Atlas.
Ironwood:……
Ruby:Why are ships blowing up?
Ironwood:I am blowing up Mantle now.
Ruby: 😧
Ironwood: Don’t “😧” me! Did you miss the part where I wanted to leave and not fight for my life against Salem!? We didn’t have to go for broke!
Ruby:I will now use the relic to get everyone on Atlas, then allow everyone to leave.
Ironwood:….
Cinder:This is…hilarious.
Salem:*destroys everything* Wow, that was easy. It’s like their was barely any resistance.
Listen, I get one option is morally better and definitely more noble, but maybe we shouldn’t deny people and their entire kingdom the right to leave a situation that’s go for broke? All he did was cause more problems for the team. Live to fight another day and all that. Or you know…maybe we should come up with genius ideas like portals at the start of situation and not the eleventh hour? Then we all leave on the flying kingdom before the devil is kicking down walls.
Or hear me out, we cut out the middle man and take leaving to the next level by ditching the physical kingdom. You make a public announcement regarding the portals taking people to whatever far away place the group decided on, make them, then go. All you gotta do is make sure is Penny and the relics immediately leave first, and that Salem herself doesn’t get through the portal before you close it. Let Cinder or Tyrian try something if they want. They would have to go out of their way to go to a location cut off from the grimm army and get passed every hero. We uno reverse going for broke. Instead we got grimm eating people in Vacou. I can’t-

Hot take: RT should have told us Ironwoods semblance in the show instead of just doing it at a panel
If we knew his semblance, it would have made his fall more tragic. This is not, I repeat, NOT a pro or anti Ironwood post. He got what he deserved by Vol 8's end, and I stand by that. However, without the bit of context that Ironwood's semblance makes him lazer focused on a goal, it makes his turn less tragic then they probably wanted it to be.

the music in rwby
i feel like i could talk about rwby's ost for HOURS. not even like, how the lyrics represent a character and/or their situation (thats a whole other post) but how everyone composing them NEVER MISSES!! every song is just absolute banger after banger ranging from full on songs with vocals by casey lee williams to just scores that are used on the episodes of every volume (that you can just listen to!! and i think that rules.) every song in every volume hits the soft spot in my brain that makes me smile (bmblb from vol4), makes me cry (forever fall from vol6) and gets super fuckin hyped n pumped up (die from vol2, especially the part with casey just full on screaming the lyrics) and to be honest theres a lot of songs in the albums that fit those 3 criterias but those are the ones i could remember as of late i also love how much the casey has evolved as a singer (i've heard that she's been singing for RvB since she was like,6) from vol1 where she was, i think, 12 and her voice was plenty AWESOME to listen to already, then came vol8 and shit went DOWN. the opening kicking off with "we said GOOODBYYEEE" goes so goddamn hard its unreal. every opening in this series goes incredibly CRAZY and its not even funny like every second of the songs in the series are so damn well composed with the catchiest beats and best lyrics ever (specifically lamar hall, he raps so damn fast in big metal shoe, vol6) by the way, jeff HOWLING in some songs he is wonderful, like caffeine (vol2) or the vol3 opening. hell, songs where its just him doing the vocals are incredible too even if there arent that many, like bad luck charm in vol4 orr not fall in love with you in vol3! ill be honest, i dunno who composed what and who did this n that but im ASSUMING most of the guitar parts were just jeff, like the swell and heavy guitar in touch the sky, vol7, that ones gives me summer (not the character) vibes and it slaps. i love the solos sprinkled around the songs as well and im glad to see them still present and incredible as always in the vol9. (RED LIKE ROSES PART 3!! absolute PEAK. i listened to it for like 3 seconds on borrowed earbuds and it felt like heaven on my ears) the whole of volume 9 was incredible too, checkmate is incredible with the flow of the lyrics and the doots and the BASS, oh my god the bass. its really cool knowing martin de lima, from ok goodnight (the band casey sings in!! check them out, i need to listen to more of their songs aswell, awake sounds HEAVY and im all for it) composed some of the scores for vol9 and i hope there'll be more of ok goodnight in future volumes (greenlight vol10) didnt expect to have written so damn much but thats ok. what im saying is : music goes hard, goes cool and makes me happy. hope it makes you happy too :)

OKAY I had some Interesting ideas about rwby au’s that make the ending of volume 8 even angstier and I wanted to ask if anyone’s already written fanfics about a certain concept in particular:
Basically, instead of the island being limbo or an afterlife, it’s just a place that’s disconnected from remnant. In this au, team rwby (plus Jaune and Neo) find out that they can’t leave the island, so they actually wind up staying there for good. They have no more battles to fight, but they’re also permanently separated from everyone who isn’t on the island, including all of their other friends and family.
(I’m not really planning on doing anything with this concept right now, I was mostly just curious to see if anyone had written/drawn like this yet)

A Comparison and Analysis of RWBY Vol3-4 and Vol8-9
I will start this post with the caveat that I have only seen clips and parts of Volume 9, I am not caught up (but I do have pretty good idea of what has been happening). I’m sure someone else has talked about this same topic before so if I missed anything, please let my know in the notes. These are just my own observations.
First, I’ll discuss the overarching situation:
Volume 3 ended with the fall of Beacon and the death of one of the major leaders of Remnant, Ozpin. We also ended this volume with the transfer of the Fall Maiden powers to a villain, Cinder. Volume 8 ended similarly with the fall of Atlas (literally) and the assumed death of Ironwood. The Winter Maiden powers were similarly transferred but to Winter Schnee instead. Additionally, both volumes ended with lots of collateral damage. In Volume 3 Remnant-wide communications were lost and in Volume 8 Atlas and Mantle were both lost as well as any assets that were left there.
The major difference here is that Salem did not acquire the relic from Beacon but she did acquire the relic from Atlas. We are not really shown what state Beacon was in after Volume 3 so I would surmise that it was not a total loss. If it were Salam would likely have used her resources to acquire Beacon’s relic.
Next, the status of the protagonists:
Volume 3 ended with Pyrrha’s death and volume 4 showed our protagonists split up. Team RNJR (Ruby, Nora, Jaune, and Ren) heading to Haven and Weiss, Blake, and Yang spread across Remnant.
Volume 8 ended Penny’s death (she also died in volume 3 but her death felt more final in volume 8). Our protagonists were similarly split up in Volume 9, with Team RWBY and Jaune falling into Ever After and Team NERO (Nora, Emerald, Ren, and Oscar) in Vacuo with Winter.
The differences here are simply that there are two groups instead of a group and scattered individuals.
In volume 4 we gained a new protagonist, Oscar, as the reincarnation of Ozpin. in volume 8 Emerald defected from Salem’s forces and joined Team RWBY-JNR+O.
I will also point out that the timeline of team RWBY finding Jaune during volume 9, in a somewhat familiar way to how Team RNJR was introduced to Oscar in volume 4.
In both volume 4 and volume 9, all of the main characters are shown to be suffering some form of survivor’s guilt and/or trauma from the events of volume 3 and volume 8. For volumes 3-4 that was notably Jaune (and Yang) and for volumes 8-9 that is Ruby.
That brings me to the opening themes for volumes 4 and 9:
The opening for volume 4, “Let’s Just Live,” is more upbeat and lighter-hearted.  But it also signifies that the protagonists have all had the revelation that their lives (reality) are not the fairytales they thought they were.
The opening for volume 9 is a bit more intense. As I’m sure most of you know or suspect, volume 9 concerns Team RWBY and Jaune literally being dropped into a fairytale. The lyrics of “Inside” reflect as much.
I think we all can agree that the lyrics of “Inside” are most specifically about Ruby and her character growth. However, both songs are heavy-handed in their message about moving on from grief and the burdens of the past.
In volume 4 Jaune was dealing with the grief of Pyrrha’s death and Nora and Ren were dealing with events from their past.
I hypothesize (reasonably so) that Ruby will undergo some sort of transformation in volume 9 that will allow her to come to terms with all the grief and burdens she is carrying. She is the last of the main cast to do so.
With that in mind, I cannot help but wonder if volume 10 will be mainly focused solely on Team NERO and Winter with Team RWBY and Jaune (possibly) returning from the Ever After near the end of the volume. This would allow for Nora, Ren, Oscar, and Emerald to undergo the rest of their character development so that all of the main characters are at their fullest potential for the last volume(s) which will undoubtedly concern the final battle against Salem and the fate of Remnant.
The final volume(s) have a high likely hood of occurring at Beacon for a couple reasons. Beacon’s relic is still there, as I stated earlier, Salem has yet to acquire it. But most importantly, it would allow RWBY’s narrative to be cyclical and poetic by ending where it started.
Thanks for reading through to the end! I’m sure I’ve missed things and oversimplified others but these are just things I’ve had thoughts about.
