I've seen people complaining about Qrow not being present in the flashback, but guys... just look, really look a this:

Remember how Raven's semblance works? She can create portals that lead her to people she has bonded with.

Thus far we know she has, at the very least, 3 portals: one portal for Tai, one portal for Yang and another portal for Qrow. This makes things much worse and painful because it implies both Raven and Qrow were either present when Summer died and then had to tell Tai OR they were the last ones to see their friend before she went to face the mission she would never return from.

Summer couldn't help but smile widely as at her newborn son any outside noise from the hospital being unnoticed as she lightly tracing her fingers over his dog ears, still curl up. The pup whimper a bit, his eyes still closed. Summer laughed a bit kissing his forehead. After 9 long months here he was. Her baby boy.

Summer:Welcome to the world Zwei.

Taiyang just then had walk into the room and couldn't help but smile brightly as he almost ran to her and hugged his wife gently as not to hurt her. She had just given birth after all.

Taiyang:There he is.... he's adorable Summer.

Summer:Mhm.... isn't he? He looks just like papa.

Taiyang:Has your hair color though. Bet he got those eyes too.

Summer:Be cute if he had your eyes. Those cute baby blues!

Taiyang:Our little Zwei....

That got the parents to stop and think for a second. To the nurse relief, they seemed to like the idea.

Immediately Summer whip her head to Tai and glared at him.

Taiyang facepalm again and groaned I'm frustration

Taiyang:We are not doing this again!

Summer:Oh we are so doing this! You know. Most men would love if their wife said, No our son can take your last name!

Taiyang:And most women would say, I'm so happy you're not mad about us giving our son my last name!

The couple began to bicker again and the nurse couldn't help but sigh a bit. Well. At least she tried

Yang & Ruby's Childhood

Oh how I wish, I wish that people would stop ignoring canon and pretending Yang & Ruby had functional adults who were good parents in their lives after Summer died. 

Because the fact of the matter is that they did not and canon has spelled this out again and again for the audience with increasing clarity every single time.

In Volume 2, Yang overtly states that Tai shut down following Summer’s to the point where his neglect became so pronounced a 5 and 3 year old who were grieving were left alone for hours and could disappear into a Grimm inhabited island looking for a different parental figure. 

Its re-established again in volume Five when Yang spells out to Weiss in no uncertain terms that after Summer disappeared, Yang, a five year old, was the one who needed to keep the family together and the trauma this inflicted on her alone is obvious. Let alone Ruby, because she was both being neglected and being raised by someone only two years her senior. Something Ruby fully acknowledges was the cast. 

There’s a multitude of other things I feel Tai has done wrong as both a teacher and a parent, but these one’s are undeniable, openly stated facets of the household. 

And Qrow doesn’t get an out by being the uncle either, oh no. 

Ruby makes it expressly clearly despite how much she loves and admires her Uncle she is very much used to him dropping back into her life shit faced drunk and being carted home by a stranger and needing to be taken care of. 

Again, by children! 

He has his reasons and his problems, but amazingly that doesn’t stop this from being a shitty way to grow up. No matter how much Tai & Qrow might love these two, they were not ‘great parents’, I wouldn’t even call them good. 

These two adults were negligent and damaging to the children under their care despite how much they may have loved them, and the fact that is ignored really burns me up inside.

I think it’s time I address what is by far the BIGGEST assumption much of the fandom has made about Ruby’s and Yang’s parents:

That Raven was just the shitty parent who abandoned her daughters, and that Summer and Tai were the uncomplicated GOOD parents who made the good choices. And Qrow was the well-meaning fuckup who’s been able to improve.

When the reality is that ALL of Team STRQ were in fact well-meaning but  MASSIVE fuckups in each their own way.

Like if nothing else, they all bailed on Ruby and Yang in one way or another (Raven and Summer physically, Tai emotionally/psychologically for several years, Qrow a bit of both)

And I have a good feeling that the Vacuo arc will be when Ruby and Yang will finally have to address that shit.

putting my thoughts together... looking back, the whole "raven left, and summer and tai got together because summer was there for him. then ruby sort of happened as a result of that" never really sat right with me.

and with this scene it does so even less.

i kinda expected them to kiss farewell, you know, having thought of them as being together for the past *checks watch* 8 years? but... they hugged.

to me, it makes me think they are together because the two of them are raising Raven's kids. Together, but not together-together, yknow?

it does feel like raven's words here aren't just because of summer leaving yang.

Them. not just yang. them. And since Ruby's just far too similar to Summer to say that she's Raven's and Tai's... yeah. I wanna believe that she's Rosebird's daughter.
