RVB and The Mountain Goats: Beat The Champ
I’m posting this again because the first time I posted it I included a link to the album and tumblr didn’t like that. I will post that link in a reblog
I have been keeping lots of notes as I listen to The Mountain Goats about what RVB characters or themes they make me think of and I wanted to make a big post about it. I decided to break it down into one post per album instead of one giant post of all of them (three albums so far) because it was getting really overwhelming. I will not be covering every Mountain Goats album.
The rest of this post will be under the break because I’m sure it will get long
(Also this isn’t edited. I just really, really wanted to get this out because it’s been cooking for a while)
• Southwestern Territory: Tucker and his growth- as a man, as a soldier, as a leader, as a father. He starts his military career as kind of a loser who just goofs off all day and avoids work. He gets saddled with a son who was meant to be used as a puppet to manipulate the other side of the war. Despite being impregnated with Junior against his will, he loves him dearly and will do anything to protect him and wants to be the best father he can. He becomes not only his guardian, but an ambassador to his species to help broker peace between them. He ends up separated from him when he’s called to action with his old comrades again. He is forced to grow up in a very brutal way on Chorus and is worried that he will never see him again. -“I try to remember to write in the diary that my son gave me.”
• The Legend of Chavo Guerrero: This one was a bit trickier for me and I decided to go with Simmons. We know that Simmons had a very fraught relationship with his father who wanted him to be athletic when that’s not the kind of guy that Simmons is. Popular fancanon (including me) is that Simmons is a trans man. Simmons’ father forced him to join the girls’ volleyball team when he wanted to be a mathlete. Looking up to a man who played a traditional face, especially a luchador, a hero who was “the defender of the downtrodden.” It’s easy to see a young Simmons who is not supported in his home, sneaking out of his room in the middle of the night to see this man he could look up to, who would not let him down when his father did. -“I need justice in my life, here it comes.” • Foreign Object: Wash post Epsilon implantation. Epsilon’s implantation in his brain and subsequent suicide exposed the horrors of Project Freelancer. He had to pretend he didn’t know in order to achieve his goal. He had to fulfill his role as Recovery One. He had to report to the corpses of his dead friends and blow them up in order to protect the assets of the organization he planned to dismantle. He conspired with South in order to let her live, not knowing that she was also a Recovery agent and when he encountered her a second time he wasn’t going to make that mistake again. He has a mission to achieve and he’s not going to let her get in his way. -“One of these days my legs will both snap like twigs. If you can’t beat ‘em make 'em bleed like pigs.” • Animal Mask: North and South from North’s Perspective. North has a deep desire to be South’s protector, for her to rely on him. It’s entirely plausible that earlier in their life that he did fulfill that kind of role for her. But now as an adult and as an agent on Alpha Squad of Project Freelancer, she can handle herself and needs her own space in order to achieve her goals. He is not willing to let her go and be her own person. He wants to continue to be “The Twins,” to be the big brother. In his desperate need to be useful to her, to be needed by her he actually gets in her way and puts her in danger. -“Some things you will remember, some things stay sweet forever.” • Choked Out: Carolina’s rivalry with Tex. Carolina keeps pushing herself further and further in order to beat Tex. She doesn’t know that she is literally incapable of beating her in the very real way that she will never be able to live up to her father’s expectations of her set by her mother. She is willing to put herself and her comrades in considerable harm in her myopic desire just to beat her, the one woman who has ever offered her real competition, the one woman who has always been her competition. -“Most of the boys won’t ever cross this line. If they all want to die dead broke that’s fine, that’s fine. Everybody’s got their limits- nobody’s found mine.”
• Heel Turn 2: Wash’s villain arc. Wash did the right thing. He watched his friends all die or disappear. He was implanted with an AI fragment that violently committed suicide in his brain, exposing the tortures that its progenitor was put through, causing him to experience them. He had to play it cool during his Recovery One era in order to get the access he needed to the Alpha. He almost didn’t succeed in his mission, after all of that. But he did. And what did he get for that? Prison. He was punished by another slimy entity that wanted access to the same experimental tech that had ruined his and his friends’ lives. If he wanted his freedom and he wanted to really wipe Project Freelancer out, he would have to turn on the men who helped him achieve what he had already accomplished. And he wasn’t going to ask. -“You found my breaking point. Congratulations.”
• Fire Editorial: CT’s perspective of PFL. By the time the others are having doubts about whether they are the good guys or not, CT has already become a double agent. She knows she cannot trust The Director or The Counselor and she hates that she cannot trust her teammates. She wants to tell them. She wants them to stop what they’re doing, to let them know the horrible crimes they’re accomplices of. What she doesn’t know is that the side she has joined has plenty of blood on its hands as well. Maybe she does know. Maybe it was a matter of choosing the lesser evil and The Director was a more present threat to humanity. She just knows she has to stop them, to stop The Director, to stop her own comrades, even if it means she and everyone she cares about has to die. -“Who will stand before the flood? Who will mop up all the blood? Who alone? Skin, bone, steel, stone, swim or drown. Save this town, save everything not nailed down.” • Stabbed to Death Outside San Juan: York’s Death. When Tex finds York, he’s slumming it and stealing in order to get by. He says there’s not much call for a former infiltration specialist, but it’s also possible that he is choosing to lay low. He seems eager to get back into action with Tex. Delta agrees even though he states that the “outcome is uncertain” and “the chance of success is unknown.” Even the AI fragment that’s supposed to embody logic agrees that “a little payback would be nice.” I personally don’t believe that either of them were happy without the kind of action that Project Freelancer afforded them. He wasn’t able to resist the offer. He tells Tex that she is the reason he has a bad eye. She counters that she is the reason he has one good eye. Later, he discusses with Delta his reasons for taking the mission. In the end, it is a similar situation as the one that cost him his eye as the one that gets him killed: Tex and Wyoming. -“Power and adrenaline flowing like amber.” “Sometimes you get some heat, sometimes it follows you around” “And the sky goes dark and there I am, climbing down the Hertzsprung-Russel diagram. I drop from the top of my tall steel cage. Drop to the concrete floor.” (I couldn’t pick just one lyric from this one) • Werewolf Gimmick: Tex when implanted with Omega. She is a woman of mass destruction when she is paired with the AI fragment of rage and aggression. She does not care for her teammates, she is not here to make friends or have a family, she kills CT at the shipyard without flinching because that is the mission even when Carolina hesitates and tries to talk to a friend that she cares about and tries to understand her. She doesn’t use the locker room- with the exception of when CT leaves Tex her dog-tags. -“Bring your heroes to the wolf’s den- watch them all get crushed.” • Luna: Carolina post-Chorus. Her life was one crisis after another. First, Project Freelancer, the crash of the MOI, her escaping and healing and deciding to kill The Director, putting her plan into action and reuniting with Wash and joining up with the Reds and Blues, killing The Director, then jumping straight into Chorus where she and Epsilon fuck off to hunt down Freelancer tech and pirates, and finally the civil war. She never has a moment to process anything, the traumas and the horrors she’s experienced. When she has time on the moon with the Reds and Blues, she has time where she is forced to look inward, where she can’t constantly run on adrenaline. She has to think about the deaths of her friends. Her discussion with Wash on the beach about York is one example, but York is just one of the important people in her life that she lost. She lost everyone in her life that she cared about. She lost her mother early, she lost her father to the monster he would become, everyone else on her team died with the exception of Wash and she wasn’t really that close to Wash. She was able to find a new family, a family that wasn’t held together by the machinations of her father and haunted by the ghost of her mother. “Trace names in ash, big names, old friends, and dead ends.” • Unmasked!: Epsilon letting go of Tex: Epsilon chased Tex down iteration after iteration inside of the storage unit, much like the man he was based on, trying to get her right. Eventually, as the storage unit is failing, he realizes that he can’t keep doing this. He has to let her go. He can’t keep trying to tether her to him, he can’t keep bringing her back over and over, again and again, even after she died. -“Trying to say goodbye, the only way I know how, crude and graceless.” “Like you’re free, like you can breathe now, like they’ve sawn off your cast…and by way of honoring things we both once held dear, I will reveal you. I will reveal you.” • The Ballad of Bull Ramos: Wash living with the Reds and Blues post Shisno trilogy, specifically with his brain damage. Fuck Zero for fixing Wash’s brain damage first of all. As far as I’m concerned, RVB ended when the Shisno trilogy did. Wash has a family to support him now as a disabled adult. It is a difficult adjustment for him, not only because he has to relearn how to do some things now that he has brain damage, but he has to relearn how to be a civ now that he can’t be a soldier. But he has his family. -“Get around fine on one leg, lose a kidney, then go blind. Sit on my porch in Houston, let the good times dance across my mind. Never die, never die. Stand with a bull whip in my hand. And rise, rise, surrounded by friends.” • Hair Match: The other fragments that participated in the torture of the Alpha. This is a bit of wrestling meta: wrestling matches are loosely scripted; a hair match, where one of the participants heads’ is shaved, necessitates the cooperation of all parties. That doesn’t mean that it is a desired outcome. The purpose of a hair match is the humiliation (in kayfabe) of the person getting their head shaved. The Alpha was put through all kinds of scenarios in order to break him apart into the other AI fragments. After they were made, some of these fragments participated in this torture- specifically Gamma, Omega, and Sigma. They designed scenarios to be so traumatic that Alpha would fracture. They were, however, not allowed to be present when the new fragments were refined into their stable AI states. Sigma, the AI fragment of creativity and ambition, stayed behind one time, hidden in a camera so he could watch what happened. All of the AI fragments desired to be reunited with the Alpha. Being split apart was not their natural state. Sigma hatched a plan to reunite with the Alpha, by taking over Maine and becoming The Meta in order to collect the other AI fragments (this plan was possibly made with the help of Gamma, but it isn’t totally clear his role as Gamma resisted being taken by The Meta). -“We’ll stipulate that there will be no cameras filming, but of course there will be several in the building, and if by chance somebody hits “record,” and stands real still somewhere back behind the soundboard” “I loved you before I even ever knew what love was like.” • Blood Capsules: Just learned about this song as I was writing all this up so this one will be coming later!
If you have any thoughts about what these songs made you feel re:rvb I would love to hear it!
The other two albums that are in the work are: All Hail West Texas and It’s Dark In Here

Choose violence game: common fandom complaint youre sick of hearing? RvB or any other fandom you're in
ohhh boy we ARE choosing violence!
anyway I don't like zero or torrian but literally imagine if you were an animator who never wrote anything other than the occasional quip and they gave you a whole ass show foundation show with a budget and constantly told you no about everything you wanted to do and also didn't help you at all and also you had to do it in 5 months and also the pandemic is happening. I think I'd contain so much fury in my body i'd explode. everyone knows zero was bad but it wasn't personally his fault. he should have never been given that hefty of a task that he was unqualified for WITH THE COMPANY'S FOUNDING SHOW and RT is so much more to blame for Zero than Torrian. the people who can find joy in that corporate shitshow are stronger than anyone who harassed Torrian over it. this isn't like something i've been festering about I just happened to talk about it earlier and it was the first thing that came to mind.
I'm a little hater so I don't really get annoyed that much at any complaints other than maybe grimmons queerbaiting but that's like, a legitimate problem that's been going on for 20 years and is like. an intentional thing they do. just because i'm over it doesn't mean it's not something worth complaining about yknow? also did you notice they made a canon queer couple in their most popular show just a few weeks after they had a controversy about their treatment of queer employees? I did :)

RWBY lacks Bathos and that seems to bother people.
It occurs to me that this is another reason why the RWDE and so-called critics consider RWBY a good punching bag is summed up alot in Overly Sarcastic Productions’ video on Bathos. By this I mean that it’s unabashedly proud of being a web series inspired by Anime. While not every trope in the medium is used (luckily), it still indulges in a lot of cliches the medium is known for.
Also think about how sincere RWBY is. Ozpin’s grand speeches about the war and its aftereffects or even the human nature of fear. Salem’s monologue at the start of Volume 1 and end of Volume 3. Ruby’s grandstanding against Cordovin. Blake and Yang just... Blake and Yang.
There may be some goofiness along the way but it’s clear that the writers are not here to appeal to the lowest common denimenator like Warner Bros would’ve if the studio had control over it.
We all know how that went with Gen:Lock. :/
I find myself comparing to a lot of this to Red vs. Blue. While the latter was sincere and more deep down the road, it started out of as a dudebro-y type of comedy.
Said comedy would persist even as it would become more sincere such as with Volume 8 putting Sarge, Church and Wash’s characters to the test. The Freelancer flashbacks also dial back the slapstick to a near zero but still be keen to sling some zingers in battle.
RWBY doesn't start out as a parody of Halo or anything but is starting mostly from scratch and is largely unironic about what it wants to be. There are few times where you'd find RvB's style of college frat boy humor in RWBY if at all.
So a lot of the RWDE as well as non-fans sees them opening up their heart and seeing a target with an easy bull's eye.

Preliminary Poll
Lavernious Tucker
Tumblr media
Submission reason:
They tried to give him a character arc in season 16 but joe nicolsi (s16 writer) fundamentally misunderstoood his character and it was. bad. Ask any rvb fan abt season 16 tucker and they will likely become upset. they did him so dirty.
He had an ENTIRE ARC (mostly s11-13) about how he was becoming a better person and a good leader and improving from the person he was since season 1 and then season 14 and 15 just completely butchered it to make jokes that werent even funny and not accurate to how he was previously portrayed! There were awful jokes about him not paying child support, which is complete bullshit because when he was impregnated by an alien in like, one of the first 5 seasons (i dont remember which) and had to raise an alien baby, he DID! He put in the work and was so proud of him! He literally showed other people a picture of junior on the basketball team, it was adorable! And its just annoying since he was my favorite character and it was awful to see him mischaracterized like that. To be fair, s15 screwed over a lot of the characters, as although it was more coherent then s16 or the zero thing, the way it was set up was just flat and unsatisfying, tying off too many threads while also introducing too many new charaters and elements to the story that made it feel unnatural and set a precedent that s16 followed and flopped as a result of (im mostly annoyed because of how s15 handled the freelancers, as so much more could have been done with them, and s15 could have legitimately worked if it was allowed to progress theough a multiple season storyline instead of pushing new characters and rushing any development, making that 'betrayal' feel cheap and unimportant, because there was no reason to get attached to such shallow characters in the first place.). It was also stupid when the zero season spinoff thing happened, since in the main series, tucker had a sword, which was very important to his character and storyline in general, and this sword would only function when used by the owner of it. To transfer ownership, the owner had to die, and the next to pick it up would have control of it. Beasically, they killed him off (sorta but not permanantly i dont think? Probably so that they didnt piss off fans (i dont the details of the spinoff i didnt watch it but did read a lot of critical reviews)) just to give his signature sword to some other character. I think the writer probably thought that the fans thought the sword was cool, but didnt realize that it was TUCKER holding the sword that people found cool.
Propaganda:

re: rvb not being at RTX I'm also worried ngl. The fact remains that Zero wasn't well received overall and with WB overlords breathing down their necks, I'm low key expecting RT to become a RWBY only machine eventually to be gobbled up into the corporate mass of properties. Which. Majorly sucks. Because RVB is such an important part of internet history and cultural impact and just. It's the foundation of RT- for better and worse, yes. I hope we're not seeing the beginning of the end. But I always worry.
real shit 🤝
as much as it fucking sucks, all we can do is just wait and see what happens next. even when i was way less critical of rt as a whole, their whole "not explicitly saying that a show they made was canceled" thing was a pet peeve of mine. it's rare for something they've made to even return in some form, mainly because it cost a lot of money, or there wasn't enough interest from the community or the employees themselves, or some controversy threw everything out of whack, or a combination of the three
also for better or for worse, my most cynical take is that they may not make a big fanfare with whatever will happen next with rvb. rt is annoyingly consistent at sharing news at a delay, or sharing it in one place but not the others, damaging the already strained relationship they have with their audience. this has a chance at being one of those events, i fear

OMG, I haven't seen any blogs doing matchups lately😭 You are a real treasure here!
Would you mind if I request a RvB matchup? I'm a female. I have a very reserved and introverted personality, very shy in public, especially when given attention, but I open up to the people I trust and believe they won't judge me. I'm moody like half of the time I'm awake, but I try to take a hold of my emotions and be self-awared. Indecisive, a little bit of perfectionist when it comes to things I know I can do. I think I have an anxious-avoidant type of attachement to people.
As for my interests, I like to sketch portraits a little bit, study languages and watch cartoons. I like long walks, autumn, cold weather and stars.
I'm not really sure it matters, but I have brown eyes and fair hair. My height is 5'6".
If that is allowed, can you match me up with somebody from the Red or Blue team (or both, I don't mind😄), not Freelancers.
Thank you very much! Have a nice day!
ikr i was looking for some blogs to follow that have similar fandoms/layouts i do but i really couldn't find any especially under the rvb tags :(( but yeah, no worries lol. i'm cool when people have preferences for match-ups and i'll do my best to follow them, so here ya go!
anyways, i think you match well with. . .
[🔧] Lopez !!
Tumblr media
♡ Being the most sane and level-headed member of the Red Team, he truly does try to understand & see where you're coming from. Lopez isn't much of a socialite himself and understands when you need to be alone and why you're so shy.
♡ Lopez isn't all that much into PDA, so you're in luck. He won't attempt to make any romantic moves on you or bring attention to you when you're out and about. Unless you verbally ask him for a hug or a kiss- then he'll definitely do it.
♡ If you don't open up to Lopez right away, it's fine. He gets it and waits patiently when you're ready to tell him things. But, when that time finally comes, he'll always be there to support you and do his best to comfort you. Though he'd mostly be giving you advice and attempt to fix your problem, unless you specifically ask him not to.
♡ (You can ignore this if you speak/understand Spanish lol!) Even if there's a language barrier between you two, Lopez does his best to communicate his thoughts & feelings toward you. These mostly end up being shoulder rubs, a pat on the back, head tilts, hand motions, ect. If he's feeling a little funny and the situation isn't too serious it's practically a game of charades.
♡ Knows exactly how to deal with moody- given the amount of time he's spent with the reds. You wanna be left alone? Fine by him. You want him to be there, but not comfort or talk to you about it? Fine by him. As long as you're not blatantly ignoring him or being rude, he'll respect your wishes & wants as best as he can.
♡ Lopez doesn't mind giving advice or pointing out things that can use a bit of improvement for ya. Whatever it is you're doing, if you ask him for feedback, he'll give his fully honest opinion and constructive criticism if you specifically request it. Though he takes pride in the fact his partner is such a talented person!
♡ Does his best to accustom you to romantic and physical touch, but only if you'd want to try. Takes things slow with you and there's zero pressure at all. Fully respects you, your boundaries, and your feelings.
♡ Lopez isn't much of a cartoons guy or TV-watcher at all but if you want to sit and relax with him, he'll watch just about anything you put on. Won't necessarily make a lot of comments about the show or hate on it, he'll just sit there and chat with you if you're feelin like it.
♡ Will totally accompany you on walks. If you're not up for talking, he'll just stay by your side admiring the scenery with you. If you choose to sit down and draw some trees and your surroundings he'll gladly watch you do it. Not opposed to being drawn either.
♡ Lopez would do anything to keep you safe, mentally & physically. He's always there for you when you need it and you can rely on him for advice & to keep things confidential. You both have a lot of trust put into the relationship which makes for a very strong future for the two of you.

The cast of zero being diverse doesn’t make the show diverse? Just because an actor is gay or black or whatever doesn’t make the character they’re playing that. It needs to actually be in the show to be canon.
i don’t 100% agree with you, like yeah, an actor being [x] doesn’t make the character they’re playing [x], but i do think the creators being [x] does make the show [x], at least partially, even if the characters aren’t. but like. to be clear i’m not claiming zero to be a beacon of representation. it kinda like. actively removed representation.
what i’m saying is “zero did not do a great job at representation in the text of the show itself” is a completely fucking different sentence than “zero is less diverse than previous seasons of red vs blue” and no matter how much canon rep previous seasons of rvb had it would not compare to actually having queer ppl and poc creating and working on the show. and also that previous seasons of rvb had almost no canon rep or diversity literally what the fuck are you talking about fanon does not make a show diverse oh my god why are you valuing headcanons over actual poc being in the industry i hate people on tumblr so much hoo. i’m okay. i’m not mad. just. exasperated.
(it also should be noted that kdin said when she tried to combat a homophobic plot point in genlock she was told by higher ups that rt had “done enough for the lgbt community” so like. something to consider when you’re choosing who to aim your criticism at)

cw: rvb zero critical
thinking about how rvb zero could’ve been more seamlessly weaved into the wider universe if they’d put a little more thought into it instead of relying on beloved characters and trashing their personal arcs to better their own characters.
More specifically, I think it could’ve been really interesting if rvb zero had actually explored some of the other experimental (and probably equally morally and ethically dubious) projects that the director mentioned in s6. I think that could’ve been a really interesting way to explore the story they wanted to tell without having Wash and Carolina join another ethically horrifying experimental project. As well a really interesting way to work in the alien technology element as it was at the end of the human-covenant war!
Idk man I think there was maybe some interesting concepts in there, but for me it was dragged down by the cheap tactics they used to bring in old fans, and the way they treated those characters in turn. Thinking of a version where the story was integrated more creatively and naturally, well, I think I certainly would have enjoyed that more.

RvB Stray Observations (PSA: Return to Work!)
back at it again.
trocadero is good to hear
voice filter is not so good to hear, sounds off
CAROLINA PSA LADIES
donut my boy (:
sister my girl (:
tucker
voice acting feels too clean and professional. idk, weird criticism i know.
i do love doc and o’malley being bitter roommates again. if o’malley has to stick around, then he should have his own personality again.
“y’all are a lot weirder than i remember” why is sister the one who says this when she’s freak nasty
Tumblr media
carolina in red base. that is all.
the unreal engine rendering still looks asscheeks. rip good lighting.
lopez’s new voice is hilariously bad. caboose’s is bearable but lopez’s deepened pitch is way too noticeable now and he speaks too slowly and monotone. he has a personality remember! he can emote when needed! (see: his reaction to locus understanding him).
donut has his classic personality back, thank the lord
wash and carolina STILL being separated from the reds and blues sucks. it just sucks. it kinda taints the whole episode for me and just leads to more resentment toward zero.
this PSA felt like the powerpuff girls 2016 reboot of rvb in that it has the characters i know and recognize but it feels like a different show. idk, it’s got a different vibe to it. dunno how i feel about it yet. it’s like blood gulch but made for network television, if that makes sense. my hope is that it’s just growing pains but eh. so far this and the QnA are a rough start. i’d give this PSA a 6/10, being generous because my forever girl carolina got to be a host. still mid tho.

RVB and The Mountain Goats Part One: Beat The Champ
I have been keeping lots of notes as I listen to The Mountain Goats about what RVB characters or themes they make me think of and I wanted to make a big post about it. She is willing to put herself and her comrades in considerable harm in her myopic desire just to beat her, the one woman who has ever offered her real competition, the one woman who has always been her competition. -"Most of the boys won't ever cross this line. If they all want to die dead broke that's fine, that's fine. Everybody's got their limits- nobody's found mine."
• Heel Turn 2: Wash's villain arc. He almost didn't succeed in his mission, after all of that. But he did. And what did he get for that? Prison. He was punished by another slimy entity that wanted access to the same experimental tech that had ruined his and his friends' lives. If he wanted his freedom and he wanted to really wipe Project Freelancer out, he would have to turn on the men who helped him achieve what he had already accomplished. And he wasn't going to ask. -"You found my breaking point. Congratulations."
• Fire Editorial: CT's perspective of PFL. By the time the others are having doubts about whether they are the good guys or not, CT has already become a double agent. She knows she cannot trust The Director or The Counselor and she hates that she cannot trust her teammates. She wants to tell them. She wants them to stop what they're doing, to let them know the horrible crimes they're accomplices of. What she doesn't know is that the side she has joined has plenty of blood on its hands as well. Maybe she does know. Maybe it was a matter of choosing the lesser evil and The Director was a more present threat to humanity. She just knows she has to stop them, to stop The Director, to stop her own comrades, even if it means she and everyone she cares about has to die. -"Who will stand before the flood? Who will mop up all the blood? Who alone? Skin, bone, steel, stone, swim or drown. Save this town, save everything not nailed down." • Stabbed to Death Outside San Juan: York's Death. When Tex finds York, he's slumming it and stealing in order to get by. He says there's not much call for a former infiltration specialist, but it's also possible that he is choosing to lay low. He seems eager to get back into action with Tex. Delta agrees even though he states that the "outcome is uncertain" and "the chance of success is unknown." Even the AI fragment that's supposed to embody logic agrees that "a little payback would be nice." I personally don't believe that either of them were happy without the kind of action that Project Freelancer afforded them. He wasn't able to resist the offer. -"Power and adrenaline flowing like amber." "Sometimes you get some heat, sometimes it follows you around" "And the sky goes dark and there I am, climbing down the Hertzsprung-Russel diagram. I drop from the top of my tall steel cage. Drop to the concrete floor." (I couldn’t pick just one lyric from this one) • Werewolf Gimmick: Tex when implanted with Omega. She doesn't use the locker room- with the exception of when CT leaves her her dog-tags. -"Bring your heroes to the wolf's den- watch them all get crushed." • Luna: Carolina post-Chorus. She never has a moment to process anything, the traumas and the horrors she's experienced. When she has time on the moon with the Reds and Blues, she has time where she is forced to look inward, where she can't constantly run on adrenaline. She has to think about the deaths of her friends. Her discussion with Wash on the beach about York is one example, but York is just one of the important people in her life that she lost. She lost everyone in her life that she cared about. She lost her mother early, she lost her father to the monster he would become, everyone else on her team died with the exception of Wash and she wasn't really that close to Wash. She was able to find a new family, a family that wasn't held together by the machinations of her father and haunted by the ghost of her mother. "Trace names in ash, big names, old friends, and dead ends." • Unmasked!: Epsilon letting go of Tex: Epsilon chased Tex down iteration after iteration inside of the storage unit, much like the man he was based on, trying to get her right. Eventually, as the storage unit is failing, he realizes that he can't keep doing this. He has to let her go. He can't keep trying to tether her to him, he can't keep bringing her back over and over, again and again, even after she died. -"Trying to say goodbye, the only way I know how, crude and graceless." "Like you're free, like you can breathe now, like they've sawn off your cast…and by way of honoring things we both once held dear, I will reveal you. I will reveal you." • The Ballad of Bull Ramos: Wash living with the Reds and Blues post Shisno trilogy, specifically with his brain damage. Fuck Zero for fixing Wash's brain damage first of all. As far as I'm concerned, RVB ended when the Shisno trilogy did. Wash has a family to support him now as a disabled adult. It is a difficult adjustment for him, not only because he has to relearn how to do some things now that he has brain damage, but he has to relearn how to be a civ now that he can't be a soldier. But he has his family. -"Get around fine on one leg, lose a kidney, then go blind. Sit on my porch in Houston, let the good times dance across my mind. Never die, never die. Stand with a bull whip in my hand. And rise, rise, surrounded by friends." • Hair Match: The other fragments that participated in the torture of the Alpha. This is a bit of wrestling meta: wrestling matches are loosely scripted; a hair match, where one of the participants heads' is shaved, necessitates the cooperation of all parties. That doesn't mean that it is a desired outcome. Sigma hatched a plan to reunite with the Alpha, by taking over Maine and becoming The Meta in order to collect the other AI fragments (this plan was possibly made with the help of Gamma, but it isn't totally clear his role as Gamma resisted being taken by The Meta). -“We'll stipulate that there will be no cameras filming, but of course there will be several in the building, and if by chance somebody hits "record," and stands real still somewhere back behind the soundboard” "I loved you before I even ever knew what love was like." • Blood Capsules: Just learned about this song as I was writing all this up so this one will be coming later!
If you have any thoughts about what these songs made you feel re:rvb I would love to hear it!
The other two albums that are in the work are: All Hail West Texas and It’s Dark In Here

where would one start to watch red vs blue and in what order?? i looked at their youtube but there’s so much of it and i’m not really sure where to start
Well for starters please respect yourself more than this and watch better TV. But I have no control over you I will just say that RVB has a lot of... early internet humor... so some of the jokes/events played for jokes are uncomfortable and though I think it’s watchable and enjoyable despite this it is not going to be for everyone in a lot of ways. I myself would not watch RVB myself if I hadn’t been here for like 11 years already LOL. Hold on let me put the rest of this under a cut
I don’t have cws on hand (nor do I trust my memory to make a comprehensive enough list right before I clock into my job lol) but I do strongly encourage you to seek out content critical of both the series and the company and people behind it. Many of RVB’s worse moments can be boiled down to plot irrelevant jokes in poor taste- but RVB is a comedy first and foremost, and even if it wasn’t, simply ignoring the jokes and behaving as if they have no impact or don’t imply anything about the showrunners would be irresponsible and inaccurate. Personally I hate everyone at RT and think they should all blow up and die and stop making this show because it’s been like 20 fucking years since it started now.
Anyway yeah tldr I don’t encourage new people to get into this series but I also don’t think it’s like “irredeemable media” it’s just like, not that good and probably not worth the effort if you’re not already invested.
RVB has a LOT of shit going on and much of it is side series or PSAs which are not plot relevant. I haven’t seen like 90% of Grifball LOL.
Most of RVB is now on the RT Animation youtube channel where they’ve been compiling full seasons (with extra content sometimes yaaay) and side series into single videos that are much easier to watch so you don’t have to watch the beginning and end screens of every 5-10 min episode lol.
Start with seasons 1-4, then watch the miniseries “Out of Mind,” season 5, “Recovery One,” season 6, “Relocated,” season 7-9, “MIA,” “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wall,” 10-13.
I would stop here personally. There are SOME episodes worth watching in season 14, which is an anthology of side series and related short films/skits, especially the Club episodes, The Triplets/The Mission, and maaaybe Orange Is the New Red, but other then that idc personally.
I make no secret of really fucking hating seasons 15-17 but you can watch those uninterrupted if you want. There’s also RVB ZERO, which is technically the 18th season, but pretty much everybody fucking hates it so don’t bother unless you really hate yourself. Lol.

Yknow the only way I can think of that they could save RvB without literally just saying "alright zero isn't canon now, pretend it didn't happen" is if they (along with bringing the rnbs back into focus) retcon every bad thing, one at a time, with random explanations and excuses
Like the thing about Wash being fixed? Just a rumour started by people who didn't think he would be able to fight with a disability
Wash and Carolina leaving the reds and blues? That mission was actually supposed to be a one off that they did as a favour, their ranks were just honorary. They were planning on rejoining the reds and blues ASAP
Tucker being away from the others? He teaches new soldiers on a planet near chorus every other Saturday, and this just happened to be one of those days
At some point during the season Phase dies briefly and Tucker just happens to pick up his sword again. Or alternatively the sword just stops working for phase once it realises Tucker is still alive and she has to give it back
The reason Carolina and Wash got beat so easy in the first ep is bc they had the flu a week before and hadn't been training in ages, they thought it was fine bc the mission was just supposed to be moving something from one place to another
And so on
