It is TIME. For ANOTHER. RVB TREK MAP PART

Copied from the description: 

“This part is not literal events that happen in the AU, but rather exploring the trauma and mental state of Epsilon/Church, one of my absolute favorite characters. Essentially Epsilon is the copy of another character's memories, Alpha, and in this AU it manifests as him being a hologram used to backup all of Alpha's memories (who was an android) in case something happens to Alpha. And uh, something does in fact happen to Alpha. He's destroyed by an EMP blast in canon, and in the AU his body is disassembled as well. However, Epsilon isn't around, and is later activated by Caboose. 

The other characters in this part, Sigma (fire head guy) and Meta (lizard guy) are respectively another AI fragment and an ex-Freelancer. Sigma is in control of Meta, whose mind has largely been destroyed by being forcefully implanted and overtaken by several AI. In the story, they're trying to hunt Epsilon down and add him to the "Meta". I imagine this part is sort of like a nightmare Epsilon is having years in the future from when all of this went down.”

That's so motivating to hear honestly :,D RVB Trek has totally been an AU I'm doing just for my own happiness but to know that it actually resonates with other people is super gratifying. I love Red vs Blue and I love Star Trek! Just so much!!

I think once I get a couple other commitments out of the way besides my two comics, like a couple MAP parts and some commissions, I'll be able to get back to it. And I have made something recently; I did a MAP part with Sharkface and Wash! I'm very happy with it.

RVB Trek MAP part. My mania knows no bounds

“The story in this part revolves around Sharkface, the half-Andorian half-Romulan, and Washington, the Vulcan, in an adaptation of Sharkface's death scene from Season 13, Episode 16 of RvB. Except the canon way that Sharkface died fills me with rage, so in MY version Wash instead shoots him in the leg and leaves, acknowledging both the horrors that Freelancer and Wash/Carolina in particular have done to Sharkface, but also recognizing that he's an active threat and can't just be left to run around. Afterward it shows the ways in which they've all dealt with their trauma - Wash and Carolina have turned away from the path of revenge to find healthy relationships, in each other and in people like Kimball (the Bajoran). While Sharkface, still hellbent on revenge and suicidal determination, has been left alone and bleeding on his runabout, at a loss for what to do with himself now.”

The way you overlap the plots of ds9 and rvb is so clever too

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Aughhh this means so much to me,, that AU is my total baby and it's such an obscure combination that it makes my ENTIRE day when someone else gets excited about it :D

Klingon Sarge was one of my true galaxy brain takes! Like, a Klingon quote is "Today is a good day to die". That's literally also a Sarge quote! It's perfect!!

Cardassians are super fun to draw. I like making them more snakey than lizardy like some other people's takes, so I push out the hood and give them those long skinny tails. Such great designs.

North and South are already so angsty as it is, adding in Trills gives it like FOUR extra levels of angst. And omg I hadn't thought about her symbolically ending Trill traditions with killing North.... your freaking mind!!

I'm almost done drawing all the reference sheets, just a couple of Blues and Reds left, and then I'll be doing sketchy references for all the characters who don't interest me enough to give fully rendered sheets (lol). But even after that I'll still be doing drawings and stuff for the AU!! I just love it too much to let it go.

BE PREPARED. GENE TIME

So, Gene is not my Blues and Reds blorbo du jour (that honor belongs to Temple) but he IS for @donutssafeword so I decided to go all out in their honor. Specifically it’s based on her “what if Gene was Simmons but like. time travel shenanigans” AU which is very fun. I just Star Trek-ified it and tweaked it a bit for the narrative purposes of this AU. 

Anyways, here’s some information about this petty jerk that’s not in the second slide:

- "Jiyn” is just Gene but I wanted it to sound a little more like a Vulcan name. It’s pronounced the exact same way. 

- The reason he has scars on the left half of his face is because when he went undercover as Jiyn, he pretty roughly removed his own cybernetic prothesis, and replicated himself a new ear (which is why it’s slightly discolored). However, he still has the pattern for the cybernetics, which is why he can replicate it to disguise himself. He also replicated a blue contact lens so he can cover up his Romulan gray eye. 

- In this AU, Simmons specifically has identity issues surrounding being a Romulan, because he lied to get into Starfleet and is pretending to be a Vulcan at the start of the series, which is when Jiyn/Simmons would have split off from him. So although normal Simmons went on to resolve a lot of those issues and accept more of himself, Jiyn would’ve went oops! all repression

- If you’re familiar with Star Trek, just imagine this is like a William Riker/Thomas Riker situation. Temporal transporter clone yada yada. I love Star Trek, you can justify literally anything.

Sooo remember how I said I wasn’t gonna do fully rendered reference sheets for the Blues and Reds? Well I LIED. And also realized that because they all have like, 1 personality trait, I can basically just make them my OCs at this point. Too late, RT, my blorbos now. 

SO here’s some info about CRONUT! Who remembers Cronut? Me and the other 3 Season 15 fans, I’d say. 

- My main premise for the Blues and Reds is that they’re all inversions/opposites/related to the Reds and Blues in some way. In this case, Cronut is a Kzinti while Donut is a Caitian. They’re both cat-people species, but Kzintis are known for being much more warlike and aggressive than Caitians.

- Where Donut is more of a fun mischievous cat who’ll like, bite your ankles but also is nice to you, Cronut is the cat who will sit in the corner staring at you and planning your death. I think it’s so fun to speculate about his motivations, like; in canon, he’s basically got the same personality as Donut, but he’s also working with Temple to do these extremely horrible things with a chipper smile on his face. He’s a little messed up guy! What’s going on inside your brain Cronut!

- Here’s another couple little things about Cronut’s design. Because Donut has the plasma grenade scars on the right half of his face, Cronut has animal attack scars on the left half of his face. His pose is also mirroring Donut’s, if you were to go reference my Donut sheet. And his sash is blue, because I want each of the Blues and Reds to have some blue accent to indicate that they’re much more subservient to Temple than any of the Reds and Blues are to each other. 

- Within the general setup of Temple’s squad, Cronut fulfills the bruiser/brawn role. He’s the one who Temple sends out if he needs a job done very efficiently and probably messily. 

I feel like the only person who cares about Cronut this much, and that’s... okay. Sorry but also not sorry for stealing your character and making him mine, RT.

It’s TIME for TEMPLE! My horrible guy! My loathsome fave!! My wretched little freak <3

In case you can’t tell, Temple is one of my favorite RvB characters and I’ve truly been obsessed since I watched season 15 for the first time. He’s so weird and fucked up, I just love him so much. I have so much to say about him but I’ll try to keep it reasonable. 

Here’s some info about this messed up and evil guy:

- Compared to some of the characters in this AU, I’ve actually put a lot of thought into Temple’s specific physical appearance and build, and how that plays into his character. I like to imagine him as having sort of doughy, soft-looking features, and like a heart-shaped face that makes him look unthreatening. After Biff dies, though, and when he starts going on his rampage, he stops eating much and his features pull in, giving him a much more gaunt and stretched look, but still having the softer build of his face. In general, I want to make his features give an impression of someone who seems friendly and awkward at first, but just unnerves you somehow anyways. This also goes hand in hand with him having really pale blue eyes, which are always open a little too wide. Temple’s the only character who I drew without dot eyes in his side doodles, because I wanted to emphasize that staring look. He’s also anemically pale because he spends all his time brooding alone in the dark. 

- In canon, Temple is just a drafted solider like most of the Reds and Blues, but in this AU I made him previously a medical assistant rather than a standard redshirt for a couple of reasons. Most simply, I just wanted him to have a blue uniform, to go with his canon design and general cold color scheme. But also, I thought him having some baseline medical knowledge would work well for his character. It gives him a reason to know where the least damaging place to shoot Biff would be, and also adds a little extra angst in him being unable to save Biff when he was dying. And then later, when he’s killing Freelancers, he can use that medical knowledge to freeze them and know just how long it would take for them to starve to death/etc. 

- The scar on his cheek is something I’ve actually included in my Temple design for a long time, including the cat version of him. Basically, Biff had a scar in the same place, and Temple intentionally gave it to himself after Biff died so he would never forget what he was doing everything for. I always write and draw Temple as very creepy and obsessive, which goes along with headcanons like this one. 

- Unlike the Reds and Blues, Temple is still an Ensign (although, technically the Reds and Blues are all ensigns too until they actually get promoted by Kimball in the Chorus arc, because the Lieutenant/Captain positions they gave themselves weren’t actually sanctified by the Federation, but I digress). This is because Biff died and he broke off from Starfleet while he was still an ensign. I imagine he would’ve been promoted eventually if he’d stayed in the program. 

- Probably the biggest change I make in the later half of this AU is that Sharkface survives the Chorus arc, and eventually goes on to team up with Temple. This is because I really like both of them and am allowed to do whatever I want, BUT I do think they’d have a really interesting dynamic, and their mutual revenge quests could play against each other narratively in some cool ways. Whether or not Sharkface gets redeemed, I like Temple still being unrepentant to the end. More than anything I just want to force the narrative to admit that Freelancer did some horrific things to Sharkface and Temple, and not just gloss over it like they do in CANON BECAUSE (enraged 3 page rant follows)

I could probably talk about Temple all day, but I’ll stop myself for now. And actually, Temple is the last of the full reference for this AU I’m doing! WOW!! It feels crazy to finally get to this point. 

I’ll be doing references for the Blues and Reds, but they’ll be simpler than these main types. I’ll also be doing some concept art designs for characters that I haven’t included so far in this AU, like the Director and Florida, because I don’t find them as interesting or important. So that’s next week!

Kimball and Doyle! This one’s almost a week late because, ah, I don’t reeeally have any particular passion for these two. They are very functional characters for the roles that they play! I’m sure! I have read some good Kimballs in fic, though, so I’ll give her that. 

Here’s some information about these conflicted leaders:

- In this AU, Chorus is a tiny, out-of-the-way planet colonized by Cardassia during the Occupation, which was eventually just kind of trailed off and forgotten over the years, and when the Occupation ended it was left up to a small Bajoran government with a handful of Cardassian to run it. As a civil war started to tear apart the factions, like in RVB, that’s when Hargrove and his goons entered the picture, hoping to get at the natural resources of the planet. So on and so forth for the plots of season 11 - 13. 

- That means that all the Chorus characters, like Andersmith, Jensen, Bitters, Palomo, and the rest are all Bajoran. About half of the space pirates would be Cardassian, and the rest would just be assorted aliens. 

- Man, I really have nothing to say about these two! Hm, I like their color schemes, I tried to incorporate blue/yellow respectively into their whole design. I’m pretty proud of how the portraits turned out in this drawing.

Just making sure to boost the self-indulgent content meter by popping a FNAF quote in there. I have drawn Sharkface with it before, though, so that counts for something. 

Anyways SHARKFACE! I love this guy! I really wish he hadn’t died in the way he did, though. I feel like with him and Temple RVB kinda went “damn, look at the awful effects Freelancer had on these ordinary people’s lives! Look how much it callously twisted and hurt them!” and then moved on and didn’t do anything about it. Oh well. Suppose that’s what fanfiction is for. 

Here’s some information about this overdramatic artist:

- Originally Sharkface was just a Romulan merc, but I decided to make him half Andorian for honestly no other reason than I wanted to draw an Andorian/Romulan hybird. They are both aggressive warrior-type species, which I think fits together nicely. Plus he’s blue!

- "T’Rens Ephrem” is based on the pseudo-canon joke about Sharkface’s real name being Terrence Ephemera. I really like that, so I threw it in. 

- He got his nickname from the shark tattoos that run along the side of his face and his neck. After he was burned, it covered up half the tattoo on his neck. For the rest of his outfit, I tried to mimic both Romulan-style clothing and like, scene kid from 2008. I specifically googled “UFO pants”. 

- Actually, you know what? I’m not done ranting about this. Sharkface literally has the motivations of a protagonist (I was cruelly attacked and all my friends were killed and I want to avenge them) but he’s treated so badly in the end by the narrative?? Wash and Carolina LICHRALLY gun him down in the street after one (1) monologue and never talk about him again. “Oh but he was evil he tried to kill people” WASH SHOT DONUT. What the fuck Sharkface I’m so sorry for what these bitches did to you. 

Next is Doyle and Kimball! They’ll be together on one sheet.

None of these characters are safe from my snakeification beam. I mean, if Felix is a Cardassian, I’m simply by required by law to make Siris one too. I don’t make the rules (I do). 

Here’s the extra info about this mysterious backstory man:

- I don’t remember if it was explicitly stated in the show, but I think it’s at least implied that Siris was in the military/same squad as Locus and Felix were, as he was working with them as mercs after the Great War. I also assume that’s where he lost his leg. I remember something, either in the wiki or in a novel, that Cardassian Union treatment of injured people was pretty terrible, so Siris was probably off-homeworld when he was able to get his prosthetic. 

- In RVB it’s implied that Siris either died or went missing somehow, which is why he’s not in the mainline story, but because this is my fanfiction I’m allowed to do whatever the hell I want. The canon I’ve created says that he was left behind in some key survival moment by Locus and Felix, but he survived and went somewhat off-grid. And also his wife is okay because I can’t stand killing off Megan. If this AU were an actual show, Siris happening across the ship while Locus is on it would be the plot of an episode, where you get to learn more about Locus’s backstory. 

- I really don’t have much to say about Siris! I changed his first name Mason to a more Cardassian spelling of Macyn, but I left his last name because some Cardassians have human-sounding last names, like Natima Lang.
