Simone still couldn’t blame Taissa.

a short idea for what happens to the turner-abara household in season 3

when simone woke up from her coma, surrounded by doctors with sammy clutching on to her hand for dear life, she didn’t blame taissa.

when simone hand delivered the divorce papers, to her wife, she didn’t blame taissa.

when her son asked her when mommy was coming home, simone still couldn’t blame taissa.

she wanted to, of course.

she wanted to scream at tai, she wanted to spit in her face and ask why she tore up their family for a woman she hasn’t seen in a decade.

but she didn’t. she just sobbed every day and set up appointments for sammy to meet with a new psychiatrist.

she just did everything possible to give her little boy the best life she possibly could.

she blamed herself, she knew it was a risk falling for taissa. she knew taissa’s heart belonged to another. she knew taissa was haunted, and she knew there was nothing either of them could do about it.

she loved her enough for the both of them. and taissa was grateful for her.

and although simone was understanding, although she was patient,

love was simply not enough to watch tai’s past haunt their son too.

22. Yellowjackets (2021-)

This tense survival thriller takes place in 1996 when a high school girls' soccer team's plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness on their way to nationals, leaving them stranded in an endless forest for nineteen months. The series also flashed forward twenty-five years to the present as the survivors of the plane crash cope with the traumas left behind by the horrors they endured in the wild. 

Based on that premise, Yellowjackets seems like a show devoid of happiness. While that's often the case for the girls stranded in the wilderness and the women reeling from their teenage tragedy, this series features fleeting moments of joy that emerge in moments of intimacy. Taissa (Tawny Cypress / Jasmin Savoy Brown), a success-driven lawyer running for state senate in the present plotline, shares a home with her loving wife, Simone (Rukiya Bernard), and their young son. To Taissa, her relationship with Simone represents a perfect life that she uses to push away the terrors of her past. 

While trapped in the dense forests of Canada, Taissa and her fellow teammate, Van (Liv Hewson), begin a romantic relationship that becomes a much-needed escape from their dreadful circumstances. Because they have each other, Taissa and Van remain driven to escape the wilderness and survive. The darkness in the series is much more bearable to watch when we also get glimpses of hope and joy through the power of a beautiful queer romance.

wait fuck you though, i was trying to look up the actor who plays simone as the last potentially straight actor playing a key queer role on yellowjackets, and instead of that i get a spoiler that blackbeard's mom is playing A Role that was speculated but not known for s2

Lol then i went on Wikipedia to find the same info (her name is rukiya bernard and she doesn't seem to be queer) and got another s2 spoiler via casting that I don't think was as widely speculated? (and that adds another ostensibly straight actor playing queer)

i was kinda hoping van would eventually be revealed to be nb, but i guess not because she’s played by a cis woman as an adult. i feel like it would be a strange thing as an nb actor to share a role with a cis person but like obviously nb actors should play characters of any and all genders they are comfortable with

and i guess cas get back to earth by virtue of annoying the empty entity, okay. i briefly had some feelings with the music swelling when cas woke up in the field however then it turned into panflute?? and the feelings were gone :p which leads into this...

was watching the last little bit of e3 where cas wakes up and the soundtrack gets different/a little interesting - has this choral element that reminds me a bit of the (far superior) musical score in the expanse. the title sequence makes me weep lol. anyway, the spn thing, the voices transition into strings-ish? but i wonder if the score was all done electronically, or how much was done with instrumentation. i know nuts and bolts of how a couple smaller tv and movie score composers work, but i don't know what the norm is - especially on a (i presume) lower budget show. and i wondered if that's why it often feels flat. i dunno. he just switches up genres and sounds with no real rhyme or reason, sometimes i think it sounds like he heard someone do something cool and then sorta.. cribs it, and we get the knockoff. sigh. this poor dude. raggin on him almost daily.

i'm the opposite of effective at getting anyone to ever watch anything, but really. it's such a good show, from start to finish.
