Summary: It's different at Mammy's house
Tumblr media
"I've got you!" Mammy said, reaching down to snatch you up.
You shrieked and tried to pull away but she had you nice and tight, throwing you up into the air and catching you. "Mammy!" You laughed," Let go!"
"No chance!" Mammy declared, pretending to bite at your cheeks.
You laughed again, trying to bat her away as you caught sight of Ma sliding the back door open.
It was an unusually warm day so Ma said you could all eat in the wendy house at the bottom of the garden.
"Katie!" Ma scolded when Mammy turned you upside down and shook.
"We're just playing!" Mammy laughed as she pretended to drop you, much to your amusement and Ma's horror.
"You can play later. Come on, kiddo, help me carry everything out."
As soon as you were on your feet again, you hurried inside to collect the plates Ma wanted you to take. You walked as quick as you could without running (because then Ma would scold you like she scolded Mammy) and placed the plates on the little table in the wendy house that Mammy and Ma built for you last year.
"You got everything, kiddo?" Mammy teased as you moved back and forth between the table and inside.
You thought for a moment, nodding before shaking your head. You bounded over to her and asked," What do you want to drink, Mammy?"
Mammy laughed. "There should be some fruit juice in the fridge, kiddo. Can you get me that?"
"I can!" You scampered off back inside and tugged on Ma's shorts. "Mammy wants fruit juice."
"And she's too lazy to come and get it herself?" Ma teased as she poured some into a glass for you to take.
"I asked!" You said quickly.
"My helpful girl," Ma kissed you on the head before sending you on your way.
On your way to the garden, you begin to feel a little woozy and blink a few times to see the entire garden has gone still and someone's calling your name.
You blink awake suddenly, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes to see Ma kneeling in front of you.
"Hey sleepy girl," She says," You look like you were having a good dream."
You nod sullenly.
Ma puppeteers you into your clothes when it becomes clear that you don't want to move. You've spent your week with Ma and now you're going back with Mammy to Arsenal. You're used to the routine of it now but after your dream, you can't bring yourself to be happy about seeing Mammy again even though you've really missed her since you've been away.
You swing your leg up to put on Ma's knee and she laces up your shoes nice and tight.
Ma does a lot of things she didn't use to do with you. When it was Ma and Mammy and you, you did things all together or with one of them only. Now though, Ma has a lot more time with you. She takes you everywhere, to the park, to the cinema...Anywhere you want to go, she takes you.
You went to the zoo yesterday and the day before that you went to the trampoline park. You scraped your elbow there and Ma gave it special magic kisses and took you to get ice cream.
Something that's become increasingly more regular with Ma is that she holds you. She didn't used to hold you in her arms, just your hand, but she does it a lot now. Sometimes, when she's having one of her bad days, she holds you close and tight and just sits with you. Sometimes, when she's having one of her really bad days, she cries.
You both pretend not to notice.
She smiles at you as she zips up your jacket and helps you wear your backpack. That's new too, decorated with the characters from your favourite show. You went to Camden market the day you came home to her and you saw it at one of the stalls and Ma bought it straight away and then you shared some Dutch pancakes before getting on the tube to go home.
"I love you," She says as she presses a kiss to your cheek. She puts one on your other cheek. "I love you." Then your forehead. "I love you." Your nose. "I love you." Your chin and then your cheeks again. "I love you! I love you! I love you!"
You giggle and try to squirm away when she tries to start it all again. She doesn't let you go and you're thankful when the doorbell rings.
"Mammy!" You cheer, barrelling into her. All of your earlier aloofness towards her has disappeared as you crash into her, arms coming up to wrap around her middle.
"Hey, kiddo!" Mammy laughs as she picks you up," ...Hey, Ruesha."
"Hi, Katie."
You know something bad happened between Ma and Mammy. You know so because you heard Ma discuss it with Auntie Shebahn and Lucy when they were having one of their adult juice nights when you were meant to be sleeping.
Ma mentioned Mammy's adult name a lot and Caitlin's name too but you didn't understand it. All you know is something bad happened and now Ma and Mammy won't even be friends anymore.
"All of her stuff is packed," Ma says to Mammy as you wait on the doorstep, standing on your tiptoes to shyly wave at Caitlin, who was waiting in the car," There's a juice box and snacks too. Her tablet's all charged up and she's got her special pillow too, in case she wants to nap and-"
"I'm her Mam too, Ruesha," Mammy says as she takes your hand," I know what to do with her. Say goodbye to your Ma, kiddo."
"Bye Ma! Love you!"
"Love you too."
Mammy straps you into your car seat and pulls off the driveway.
Caitlin says hello to you before she and Mammy get involved in one of their adult conversations that you don't know how to contribute to. Now that it's just you and Ma, she never has conversations that you can't be included in like Mammy and Caitlin do.
It's a little annoying but it doesn't take too long to get home so you can deal with it.
"Put your stuff away," Mammy says," And then we'll sort out some lunch. Sound good, kiddo?"
"Will you play with me?" You ask.
She winces and brushes a hand over your head. "Later," She promises," I've got some meetings to go to and some emails to answer. But I'll play with you later, okay?"
Ma always plays with you when you ask but this isn't Ma's house and this isn't Ma. The rules at Mammy's are a bit different to Ma's so you just nod and go to put your stuff in your room.
You sit criss-cross-apple-sauce in the living room with some of your barnyard animals, making your tractor drive over the rug. Cooper naps nearby and you give him a kiss in greeting before going back to your game.
Mammy and Caitlin sit at the kitchen table. Mammy's got her headphones on and she's talking to the people on her screen while Caitlin is hunched over a book, scrawling notes with one hand.
You're hungry and Mammy's on one of her special calls that you know you're not meant to interrupt her unless you're hurt. You glance at Caitlin. You know the bad thing that happened between Ma and Mammy had something to do with her so you're a little wary in approaching her but you suck it up because you're hungry.
You tug on her top. "Caitlin?"
"Huh...? Oh, right. Yeah, what's up, kid?"
"I'm hungry. When's lunch?"
Caitlin glances at the kitchen. "I think we've got ham and cheese? Do you want a sandwich?"
"Okay."
Caitlin lifts you up onto the granite countertops as she makes you your sandwich.
"You have to cut it into triangles," You say," And no crusts. Because crusts are bad."
She grins at you. "Triangles and no crusts. Got it, boss."
That makes you giggle a little. You're not the boss.
"Thank you, Caitlin."
You sit by Cooper on the floor to eat your sandwich, playing with your toys. By the time you've finished your sandwich, Mammy has finished her meeting.
"Mammy," You say as she passes you," We can play now?"
"Sorry, kiddo," She replies," I'm still working."
You huff. "But it's later now! You said you would play with me! Ma always plays with me!"
You know it's the wrong thing to say because Mammy's face goes sad for a moment before she presses her lips to the top of your head.
"I'm sorry, kiddo," She says," But I'm very nearly done. Why don't you play with Caitlin? She's free."
You give Caitlin a wary look but she's smiling at you and you've got no other options with Mammy doing work and Cooper asleep. So, begrudgingly, you nod.
Caitlin joins you in front of your farm toys.
You give her a look. "You can be the donkey," You say, passing the toy over to her," And the fat duck. He's fat because he eats bread all the time. He's stupid."
You're sullen and a bit pouty and you keep looking up to see if Mammy's nearly done.
She's working a lot now. Always working or doing something that you can't do. Ma never does anything like that. She always plays with you.
You pout, bottom lip jutting out as you wait for Mammy but she's taking ages.
Caitlin seems to notice because she looks between you both several times before opening her mouth. "Katie!"
Mammy looks up.
"Come and play."
"I have work," Mammy says.
"Nothing that can't wait a few hours," Caitlin says," You haven't seen her all week. Come and play with us."
"Please, Mammy," You say," I promise I won't ask again all visit!"
Something in Mammy's expression shatters as she approaches. She cups your face, running her finger over your cheekbone. She sighs.
"I'm sorry, kiddo," She says," I'll...I'll play with you. You don't have to promise that."
"Mammy needs to work," You say to Caitlin," Not supposed to interrupt her when she works."
It's clear to Katie that you're a bit bummed out about everything. She had plans last night to take you out to the park and to the nice bakery you like but a call from her agent in the car when she drove to pick you up about today's meeting had completely blindsided her and then, when she thought about it, she realised that she had emails that she needed to reply to.
Katie sighs, sitting down on the floor and pulling you into her lap. "No," She says," I don't need to work right now. I've got an adorable little kiddo to play with first."
You give her an odd look like you can't quite believe what she's saying before you look down at your toys with a smile.
"You can be the horse," You say," Because he likes playing rough with his friends."

don’t you dare - Ruesha LittleJohn
Tumblr media
Word count: 2.7k
ruesha and I sat on the balcony of our hotel room. we were at the women’s world cup, and it was a dream for all of us. luckily, I had been paired with ruesha which came with benefits of our new blossoming relationship.
it was just the pair of us tonight, which was quite lucky. as much as we loved our amazing teammates and friends, it was nice to escape the chaos for once which lead to us in this position, me in her lap, her kissing my shoulder as we enjoyed the cool breeze as the sun dipped below the horizon.
“baby, stop”i giggled, squirming under her touch, trying to push her away as she kissed my shoulder .
“no, aren’t I aloud to show my love for you?”she whined, burying her head into my shoulder, continuing her movements despite her protests as I held onto her tightly .
“baby, as much as I love this, your being clingier than usual, you okay?”i said pulling away, my hands on mg shoulders as she sighed .
“It’s just”she stuttered, not from nerves but I could tell she was just trying to get her words out so I stroked her hair and kissed it, showing her I was there.
“you know, with the whole Katie thing, it was so rough and I was struggling a lot, but you got me through it, I am only this happy because of you, you got me out of that dark place but I’m just so grateful to have you”she looked up at me with love in her eyes.
“rue”i said softly but she cut me off slightly, placing her finger on my lip.
“don’t talk”she whispered, her voice suddenly hoarse as she grabbed my neck and well, in PG terms, snogged my face off .
~~
“ow, what the fuck, katie?”I groaned, now on the ground from a subtle chip katie had given me making me grab my ankle in pain.
“watch your back”she smirked and walked away as the ref played on and luckily I was able to get to my feet with the help of rue.
“you okay?”she asked and I nodded.she patted me on the back before we both jogged back to our positions.
I narrowed my eyes at katie from across the field, I didn’t know what was up with her, I knew she was quite an aggressive person on the field but never to her own teammates and I know I was dating her ex but she had no reason to dislike me.
and it wasn’t just on the field either in training their had been aimless tackles that I had just brushed off or I saw her always glaring at me from across the cafeteria where I was sat laughing with rue but I didn’t worry too much .
that was until she has sent another tackle your way, clearly directed at you and not trying to get the ball, from her own team.you let out a wry cry as you banged your fist into the grass, holding your ankle in pain.Katie sent another aimless threat in your ear, and stood up not without spitting down on you .
“baby, can you get up?”rue crouched down in front you holiday our her hands and you tried to push yourself up but couldn’t and fell back down.
“no,no,no”you mumbled and ruesha bit the inside of her cheek, seeing your face filled with pain and she waved the medic over.
they took ages to get there even though I was clearly in a lot of pain which infuriated rue but I managed to calm her down enough to stop her from lashing out.one touch to my ankle got me screaming bloody mary so they quickly got me on a stretcher.
“baby, I’m coming off”rue told me adimantlty but I shook my head, already knowing she was gonna do this as she held my hand tightly, walking to the touch line.
“no, rue”I just told her sternly, letting go of her hand as I was lead to the medical room leaving rue staring down the tunnel, my figure becoming blurrier to her by the second .
meanwhile, in the medical room I kept quiet as I was out on a medical bed as our physio, joanne checked over my ankle and I waisted in anticipation, glancing my eyes over the tv screen in the corner of the room that displayed the game I was in not too long ago, every once in a while .
I was pulled out of my trance as I felt my ankle being tapped by joanne.I could see she had wrapped it up and held some ice against it .
“right y/n, so it looks to me that you’ve got a sprained ankle, right now all we can do is rest it up and keep it elevated, but don’t stress you should be able to start the season”she told me with a smile .
“yeah, that’s fine”i muttered quietly listening to her words as I took a sip of my water which was besides me.
knowing I wasn’t gonna be able to play in the rest of the tournament sucked but I knew that it was for the best. I guess if you look at it from one point it was no stress I could just enjoy the rest of my time in aus and with rue.
I had the option to go outside seeing as their wasn’t long left of the game and I had nothing else to do but I decided against it and watched from inside. sadly, we lost which didn’t feel great but what could you do? I still felt very proud of the girls and what we had accomplished.
the medics had gone back out by now, leaving me alone in the room, but I let them, wanting a little bit of time alone.
I was scrolling on my phone when I heard the door open and I looked up, thinking it was rue but it was quite the opposite.
the last person I wanted to see right now.
“katie”i said emotionless turning my head to look up at the ceiling avoiding all eye contact as she came towards me and sat at the end of my bench.
her energy was totally off, and I didn’t like it, nor her, one bit .
“hi, y/n, doing well?”she asked smugly with her arms across her chest and her voice was laced with sarcasm.
“no thanks to you”i said with a smirk on my face and we both fake laughed together before both our faces turned blank.
“yeah let’s just cut the crap katie, what’s your problem?”i said abruptly and she looked kind of taken back but that quickly changed .
“you.your my fucking problem”she told me angrily, our foreheads touching, that was how close we were .
"katie, I don't understand what your fucking problem is with me, people very rarely hurt their teammates, especially on purpose"
"we may be on the same team, y/n, but that doesn't mean we're friends" she leaned closer to me, pretty much on top of me as our noses were pretty much touching.
“I still don’t understand what I even did to you?”i asked confused and it was true I had always been very civil towards her even though we weren’t close friends .
she groaned, rubbing her head in frustration. “ugh, I don’t even know why ruesha goes out with you, your so infuriating”.
“oh so that’s it, your jealous? pathetic, I mean you have a girlfriend get over yourself”i told her rolling my eyes and i choked back a shocked gasp as she grabbed my chin harshly.
“just stay the fuck away from rue, or your gonna have a lot more than a sprained ankle”katie said, her voice deepening and i visibly gulped.
“baby are you okay?”she pulled away from me suddenly as rue barged into the medical room, stopping in her tracks as she saw me and Katie thigh to thigh.
“oh Katie, what are you doing in here?”ruesha paused, her voice slow in confusion.
“just came to check in on y/n”Katie gave her a fake slash sinister smile and slapped her hand around my shoulder making me feel uncomfortable. I looked between the two girls, this whole situation was very awkward.
“oh okay, you mind giving us some privacy?”ruesha asked nodding her head to the door.Katie nodded and got up to leave but not before she leaned down and whispered in my ear.
“you better do what your told, or your gonna have a lot more than a sprained ankle”she pulled away and I gulped at her words. then suddenly it was just me and rue.she came over and sat down next to me .
“baby, you okay?”she asked, making me lean on my shoulder as she wrapped her arm around me .
“yeah, it’s just a sprained ankle”i said nodding and she smiled, kissing me forehead, thankful that it was nothing too serious.
“okay, that’s good, you just gotta rest up, and are you sure your okay your acting a bit weird and your face is pale”she said moving her hand to touch my cheek.
“I’m fine, rue, just a bit tired”i told her pulling away from her slightly and she looked at me weirdly like she didn’t fully believe me but eventually nodded.
~~
“baby, why is the door locked?”I heard ruesha shout through the door making me lift my head up from my pillow which was now wet from tears.I looked at the door seeing the handle rattling and continuous knocking from rue. she must have forgot her key.
“nothing rue, just go away”i almost shouted, trying to get her away as quick as possible, but I was stupid to underestimate rueshas stubbornness.
“no, what’s gotten into you?, open the god dam door, y/n”she gave a loud bang against the door with her fists, putting all her might into it as she rested her forehead against it .
I knew she would go as far trying to break down the door or going back down to reception to get another key card so I quickly rushed into the bathroom, trying to make myself look presentable but my face was blotchy with blood shot eyes which was a clear signal that I had been crying.
“hi”i whispered, keeping my head down as I opened the door and ruesha rushed inside .
“what the fuck, y/n?”she raged confused by my weird and distant behaviour but her words made me flinch slightly and gave her a few of my face.she haltered in her place, stuttering slight not sure what to say.
“omg, y/n”her face softened immensely, hands coming up to cradle my face.I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from crying but this was a sign the floodgates were about to open. “what’s wrong, baby?”.
and I broke.sinking to the ground, her arms going around me and pulling me into her chest as she did her best to calm her down but to no avail she just aloud me to cry into her chest which would become soaked with tears but that was at the back of her mind right now .
she continued to hold me tightly, not wanting me to feel rushed as she brushed back my hair so it wasn’t in my face and whispered sweet nothings in my ear.
once I had calmed down enough that I would be able to talk with just small staggered breaths, rue picked me up by my legs, walking me to the bathroom and sat me on the counter.it was silence as I played with the skin of my nails while rue got a clean towel and wet it to dab it over my eyes which she knew would start to burn from exhaustion.
“here”she mumbled, giving you the cloth and you mumbled a small thanks back to her starting to pick at the material, looking at the ground.anywhere other than rue.
“you wanna talk to me about it?”she asked in her strong accent, leaning against the counter and rested her hands on my thighs, rubbing them in comfort.
“no, it’s not important”i shrugged, feeling embarrassed about the whole thing, even though she was the person who I should’ve felt safest to confide in.
“not important? baby I’m sorry, but it’s gotta be pretty important if I’m worried sick when my girlfriend locks the whole world out and then once I get to you, you break down in my arms”she told me and I sighed as she lifted my chin to look into her ocean blue eyes .
“I’m sorry rue, I can’t”I told her after a few minutes of silence, Katie’s words ringing in the back off my mind.
“why not, huh? why the fuck not? okay I haven’t mentioned it but we’ve been so happy, you make me so happy and all of a sudden you become distant and then I find you in a state like this? oh and acting weird when I saw you with katie..”she trailed off, watching me with a pointed look as I shifted when she mentioned her exes name and looked down at the ground uncomfortably.
“baby?, something you want to tell me?”she asked, grabbing my hands and intertwining our hands together and I looked up at her .
“rue, it’s nothing”I told her shaking my head but we both knew that was a lie at this point.
“y/n, you tell me or I’m going to find out”she told me, brushing hairs out of my face and I knew I could no longer hide this from her .
“okay, so the reason is, we have been really happy, but that isn’t enough for some people, and umm, when you saw me with katie she was threatening me to stay away from you or she’d hurt me, and obviously I didn’t so in the game against canada, the tackle was by her and in the medical room and in spair time she’s been messaging me”I decided to tell her everything and I felt a massive weight being taken off my chest and I even handed my phone so she could see .
“rue”i asked after I watched her eyes scan over the messages and she closed my phone her eyes closed and she had been as quiet as a mouse.I touched her arm and that was when she snapped.
“that fucking bitch”she snapped, slamming my phone down on the counter and storming out the bathroom and then the door to our hotel room and down the haul.
“rue, wait!”I screamed, but she didn’t listen and I quickly slipped off the counter and raced out or our room to follow her and she knocked loudly onto room 23, Katie’s room.
megan opened the door, confused and her eyes widened seeing rue but the blonde payed her no mind, rushing in towards Katie and I followed not long after, but I stayed by the door frame.
“are you fucking joking?”ruesha fumed, grabbing Katie off her bed where she was on her phone and pushed her against the wall.
“woah, rue!”lucy exclaimed followed by a few other gasps throughout the room at the sudden action but rue just glared at them and they all turned silent.
“what’s your fucking problem?”katie asked disgustingly looking up at rue as she tried to move away and escape her hold but couldn’t so she just huffed.
“you.your my problem, who do you think you are threatening my girlfriend?”ruesha glared down on Katie .
“Oh please I’m aloud to do what I want”Katie said smugly, crossing her arms against her chest, not caring about the dirt looks she was being given .
“why!why do you fucking do this?you can’t just leave someone I love alone can you?, you can never suffice with the fact that I can be happy, work or without you”rueshas hands raised to her hair in frustration.
“cause she doesn’t deserve you!”she let out making everyone in the room look at her shocked .
“you can’t deserve what I do or don’t deserve, anymore. you have no fucking right after everything I did especially since you found someone else and so did I, so let.it.go. fuck off out of our lives!”she raged.
“rue, please”i rushed forward, tugging on her arm slightly trying to get her to stop, I didn’t want her to get into more trouble or worse, get hurt. she looked at me quickly from the corner of the eye and her face softened slightly.
but she turned back to katie, making me think she hadn’t listened to me and her glare hardened, grabbing a fistful of her shirt and leaning in. “your fucking lucky I found y/n, or I’d beat the shit out of you”.
she pulled away from katie, making the shorter girl shrink back in shock feeling embarrassed and defenceless but ruesha paid her no mind, grabbing my arm and pulling us back to our hotel room.
In love with this fic

summary: since you were a kid, you swore to never fall in love as you always saw the outcome of it. but everything comes crashing down when a certain #8 comes into your life.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
you felt the couch sink beside you as you turned to see ruesha looking at you with a soft smile. you never thought that you’d fall in love, yet little did you know she ended up crashing all of the plans that you’ve made.
“you have this glint in your eyes, n/n.” ruesha said, as you gave her a soft chuckle, you found yourself getting lost in her eyes.
“what glint?” you asked, as she jokingly rolled her eyes at you.
“are you really going to make me say it?” you gave her a soft look, as she gave you a lopsided grin. she was the more confident of the pair, while you were the reserved type of person who only had a small close circle.
“you’re such a simp.” you laughed at what ruesha said, but you didn’t deny it.
“whatever, littlejohn.” you said, shrugging as ruesha laughed at your expression. you watched as she hooked her arms around your waist, pulling you a bit closer to her.
“that’s better.” she said, as she kept her eyes at the television. you were watching your favorite show, it was something ruesha didn’t like but she’d still watch it with you. you gave a soft smile, as you felt her interlock her right hand with yours, but you quickly focused on the show not wanting to miss a part.
when i was younger, i saw my daddy cry and cursed at the wind
you were just a child when your parents got divorced. your father had cheated on your mother as he had fallen out of love with her, claimed that she wasn’t the one he had fallen in love with. but it was different, he wasn’t the one she had fell in love with. the one she had met in the park, she lost her shoe and he found it for her.
he broke his own heart and i watched, as he tried to reassemble it
you watched as he tried to fill the void in his heart, but it never worked. his careless decisions is what caused him to lose the love of his life, to lose his only child.
and my momma swore that she would never let herself forget
if anything, your mother didn’t want you to experience what she did. so she forbid you to love. when she found out about ruesha, she was hesitant. afraid that you’ll experience what she did.
but she proved to be good enough for you, so whenever you’d visit your mother, she’d embrace the love of your life in a tight hug. ruesha did promise to look after her daughter after all, and that’s what she did.
and that was the day i promised, i’d never sing of love if it does not exist
after the falling out of your parents, you swore to never fall in love. you didn’t want to experience the heartbreak that they had. you thought badly of the idea of being in love that when it came, you were scared.
you over thought about a lot of things, and that’s when she pulled you in a secluded place. she took the edge off your overthinking thoughts, as she comforted you, assured you.
but darling, you are the only exception
when you saw how madly you were in love with the irish midfielder, you promised that she’d be the only exception. the only one you’d ever fall in love with.
you are the only exception
she was the only one you gave flowers to, besides your mother. the only one you gave gifts to, the only one who gave the most comforting embraces.
you are the only exception
she was the only one who noticed how fast your mood would change, because it’s the way she knows you. and you were happy that she paid attention to the little details, like you did of her.
you are the only exception
and she was the only exception, the ring on your finger a few years later was the best thing that ever happened to you.

You Ruined Love for Me
Part of the Beth McCarthy mini song series
If You Loved Me Right
If you didn't lie to me
Tell me you'd die for me
Break every promise
If you were honest
I wouldn't be crazy
If you didn't call me names
If you didn't try to change
Every part of me
Every part of me you hate, I
Know that if you loved me right
I wouldn't be crazy
On the plane to Australia you were catching up with the latest Ruetube, they always make you laugh and couldn’t wait to see if you had made this week’s cut. Midway through, you could tell your bestie wasn’t her usual happy and crazy self; she seemed distant and the sparkle in her eyes had faded. Always the light of the party and the clown of the locker room Ruesha had the power to make anyone belly laugh their way into next week. You could be having the worst day of your life but could guarantee Rue would change that with a single sentence. You never had to tell her you were having a bad day, she could always just sense it and would do everything she could to try and cheer you up. She was everyone’s pick-me-up and none of you had noticed how sad she truly was lately. She’d been painting on a brave face every day of training but the camera doesn’t lie - the despair in her eyes was undeniable. That’s why watching her online made you feel so guilty, you knew she was going through a tough time with the break up and being released from Villa but missed the sadness behind the mask she paints on every single day.
Looking behind to spot Rue a few rows back as she made her way through the aisle pretending to be an air hostess, singing Busted as she went, most would be fooled to think she was truly happy. You knew how much she had been worrying that she wouldn’t make the squad. You knew her break up with Katie was messy and that she didn’t get a choice about leaving Villa. Everything she’d known for years had gone. Disappeared. Her life had been turned upside down and you just hadn’t noticed how much it had taken a toll on her until you watched it back on the laptop. She may be laughing and joking behind you but it’s all pretend.
“Oh hello madam, may I offer you a refreshing beverage?” Rue tapped on your shoulder sounding exactly like Mrs Doubtfire. Entertaining her efforts as she served your drink but ignored Katie who was in the row opposite - you can hardly blame her! Everything had come at such a shit time for her and when she finally slumped back down in her seat, it didn’t take her long to put on her headphones and pull the hoodie over her eyes. Unable to watch her combust any longer you made yourself known by dropping hard into the empty seat next to her. She’d purposely stationed herself in the empty back row, moving from the seat in front of Katie before take off. Nudging her hood back to spy who had invaded her space to see it was you and immediately forced a smile back on to her face. “Wanna watch a movie?” your voice perky, “I’m not really in the mood (y/n/n)” your friend grumbled behind the jumper covering her mouth. “Okay..” thinking of another approach, “I have cards? Entertain an old lady would ya?” nudging her gently as she laughed a little at your statement. “I’m older than you ya cheeky hen, whats that make me?!” snatching the cards out of your hand to shuffle them.
A few games in, Rue finally took the bait and started talking. Just as you expected, life had just got a bit too much for her lately and putting on a front had become tiring. Determined to not let her be sad the entire tournament and knowing you were underdogs with this being Ireland’s first time at a World Cup, she should be enjoying it. So you decided to make it your mission to drag her through the shit and into the light so she could fully appreciate her first time in Australia and at a major tournament, knowing it would most likely be her last chance too. “I’m so glad you made it mate, I couldn’t imagine doing this without you” trying your best to make sure she knows how much the team love her. “Very nearly didn’t come, didn’t know if I could face that for weeks” gesturing towards Katie with her eyes. “But Shebhan convinced me, said I would never forgive myself if I stayed home” her eyes never faltered from the cards in her hand. “Well I’m glad I’ve got my best friend here” nudging her shoulder as you slapped down the winning card. “You know you can talk to me about anything, right? Sometimes the person who makes sure everyone’s okay needs someone to ensure she’s okay?” Rue nodded as she as shared out the cards again. Playing non stop for a few hours she shared her worries of not knowing how she’s going to cope being stuck with Katie for so long, at home she can escape but here she’s got to see her ex every single day. She was also hoping to be picked up before coming away but nobody had enquired about her and made the prospect of retiring suddenly more real. She didn’t know what she would do next but you told her you would pay a hell of a lot of money to hear her commentating and you’re sure others would too!
Once you’d arrived at the hotel you made sure Rue was your roommate so you could stabilise her mood and bring back a spark of joy we’re so used to seeing. You thought it was working but when the day of your first game came you could tell she was on the war path - snapping at everyone and losing it over the littlest things. You hadn’t put two and two together until you were in the tunnel stood across from Australia, noticing Caitlin Foord directly opposite Ruesha, suddenly everything made sense. As your eyes burned into the back of Rue’s head who was burning holes into her rival’s - on the pitch and off, you could tell by her stance she was angry. Echoes of Rue’s voice shouting for Ireland bounced around in the metal tunnel, bangs on the side rippling through the line up. By this point it was too late to address her as you walked out with your team, grabbing her after group photos to ask if she was okay. “Yeah why wouldn’t I be?” she replied in loud arrogance. You knew this was going to be a looong 90 minutes.
———-
Shoving Rue back into the locker room Katie was in her face and not letting up as she screamed at her that she was psycho. Laying into her ex for ignoring her new girlfriend in the line up and lashing out after the game. There’s a lot Rue did wrong but she played a superb game regardless, she hadn’t played 90 minutes in ages and it didn’t show for a second. Noticing Rue was about to blow you put yourself between the two exes just like you did on the pitch with Caitlin. You knew Rue was gonna boil over and being the nearest to her, you had to pull her away.. And here we are - a screaming match after our first ever World Cup game.. it certainly leaves a lot to be desired for the rest of the tournament! Being only one person in the middle of two very passionate people right now, it didn’t take them long to simply walk around you. Every time you moved between them they just swerved your body to face each other again. Two Irish women screaming at each other made your ears ring. “If you were a decent human being I wouldn’t be fucking crazy would I!” Rue shouted literally through you towards Katie. “You tried to change everything about me and that still wasn’t enough for you!” this time standing on the bench to shout over the top of you. “It’s always the same argument from you isn’t it! Can you blame me for not being honest if this is how you react? I don’t love you anymore Ruesha, I haven’t loved you for years!” That statement from Katie made your eyes bulge in shock, that was a spiteful thing to say. “You always liked to keep your options open didn’t you!” still standing on the bench and kicking Katie’s belongings onto the floor. “You’re so over emotional and unpredictable Rue, what the fuck even was that out there? Are you trying to embarrass all of us? You don’t deserve to be here!” Katie picked up a boot to throw at her. “WOAH, THAT IS ENOUGH!” you screamed to get their attention, grabbing the boot out of Katie’s hand and throwing it across the room. “RUE! OUT! NOW!” pointing at the door. Ruesha’s arms folded as she refused to move so you did the only thing you could. Grabbing her legs and throwing her over your shoulder you carried her out as the screaming continued behind, kicking the door to open it as you marched the midfielder out of the changing room. Placing her feet back on the ground, as soon as the door closed she burst into tears, lowering her down gently as she collapsed onto the floor. Cradling your best friend who wailed into your lap as the rest of the team walked past, you waved them on determined to not make it a big scene. Once they’d passed, you scooped her up to carry her into an empty room and attempted to her calm her uneven breathing, fetching cold towels for her forehead before she gave herself a migraine.
Exhausted from all the crying she soon fell asleep on the coach, your back was against the window with your legs draped over her - feeling like you were protecting her against the world and the childish snickers from the back of the bus. Arriving back at the hotel you carried her limp body into your room and tucked her into bed, holding her into the next day, ready to take on the world again - in more ways than one.

Always - A Ruesha Littlejohn Imagine
Tumblr media
Hello I'm back! It's sure been a while, missed yall
This fic came to me in a dream after the Canada-Ireland game so I hope it's good and that yall like it
Tagging @grapefruit-personified because she's been waiting for this for a while and honestly she was my motivation to finish this anyway enjoy!
“Hey Rue, what’s shakin’ bacon?” Y/N laughs to herself at her joke. She loves to make Ruesha laugh, so whenever she answers a call from her teammate, she’ll make a stupid joke or a pun that makes Ruesha laugh. She doesn’t laugh this time, and Y/N furrows her brow. “Rue?”
“Can I come over?” Ruesha asks.
“Yeah, of course, you’re always welcome,” Y/N says, “Is everything alright?”
“No.”
Ruesha hangs up before Y/N can say anything. Y/N starts tidying up, just to give herself something to do while she waits so she doesn’t make herself crazy wondering what’s wrong. It doesn’t take Ruesha that long to arrive and Y/N barely restrains herself from running to the door when she hears the knock.
“What’s going on?” Y/N asks.
Ruesha has clearly been crying and Y/N ushers her inside and sits her in the kitchen while she makes a cup of tea for both of them.
“Me and Katie broke up,” Ruesha says. Y/N sets the mugs down and gives Ruesha her full attention.
“I’m so sorry,” Y/N says, “That’s awful. What can I do?”
“I just need a friend right now,” Ruesha says. Y/N reaches across the table and lays her hand on Ruesha’s. She offers her what she hopes is a reassuring smile.
“Whatever you need from me right now,” Y’N says, “You got me. Always, I promise.”
***
“I can’t believe I have to spend two months with her!” Ruesha groans. Y/N shoves Ruesha’s feet off the couch so she could sit. “I should drop out.”
“You should absolutely not drop out, it’s the World Cup,” Y/N says, “I know it sucks but you don’t have to spend any time with her outside practices and games. And I’ll be there,” Y/N waggles her eyebrows.
“Yeah, on a completely different team,” Ruesha rolls her eyes and plops her feet in Y/N’s lap.
“We’re in the same group, at least.”
“It still sucks.”
“I know,” Y/N rubs Ruesha’s shin to comfort her, “But it’s gonna be okay. I know it’s hard and it sucks having to be around your ex, but fuck her, honestly. It’s the World Cup! You’re gonna have a blast and it’s gonna be so great and you’re going to play in the World Cup, this is gonna be amazing for you.”
“We haven’t seen each other, really, since we broke up. She wasn’t home when I got my stuff. The first time we’re seeing each other since we broke up is at the World Cup. Talk about the worst fucking timing.”
“Yeah, it really is. I can’t make it better. But you guys are going to have to learn to be civil. You’re both going to play on the same national team for the rest of your careers. I know it sucks that it’s the World Cup, but the next time you guys have to play together will be so much better because you’ve already done it in the most stressful environment you could get. This is just character growth,” Y/N says.
“I hate that you’re so smart,” Ruesha grumbles.
“That’s what you get when you pick a best friend like me,” Y/N says.
“Yeah,” Ruesha glances away, an unreadable look in her eyes, “I guess you’re right.”
“Hey,” Y/N waits until Ruesha’s looking back at her, “You got me. Always. Okay?” Ruesha smiles.
***
The leadup to the World Cup is intense, it always is. It’s days full of training, or working out, or days when they’re told to rest and coaches and trainers stalking the hotel to ask why they’re out of their rooms. It’s stressful, but it’s rewarding, because Y/N knows at the end of this they’ll be playing in the World Cup.
Despite how intense and stressful and time consuming every day is, Y/N still finds time to talk with Ruesha. They’re not in the same hotel, not even in the same city, but Y/N makes sure her phone is nearby for whenever they have time to talk. Y/N ignores her teammates teasing. Like, yeah, okay, sure, she has a tiny crush on Ruesha, but Ruesha’s going through a breakup and also doesn’t feel the same. And that’s fine. Y/N’s fine. Ruesha needs a friend, and Y/N is so okay with being that friend.
“Hey, you played well today,” Y/N says.
“Like you even watched it,” Ruesha says.
“I did! Who do you take me for?” Y/N asks with faux offense, “I was studying my opponents.”
“Sure you were.”
“I know you watched my game. You texted me about that tackle I made.”
“It was a good tackle, pretty decent.”
“Piss off!” Y/N laughs, “I will hang up on you.”
“No you won’t,” Ruesha says, “You love me too much.”
“Yeah, yeah I do.”
They’re silent for a moment. Y/N swallows.
“I saw,” Y/N says, “What happened. What everyone’s saying about it.”
“Everyone’s a bunch of shits,” Ruesha says, “They can shut the fuck up.”
“That may be true, but, Rue… What happened?”
“You said you saw what happened,” Ruesha grumbles.
“Rue.”
“What do you want me to say?” Ruesha huffs, “I don’t have to shake her fucking hand if I don’t want to. You know what’s going on with them. I don’t have to play nice with Katie’s new girlfriend.”
“No, but you can’t start fights with the whole world watching,” Y/N says.
“Not that many people watched the game.”
“Not my point.”
“I get your point,” Ruesha says, “I’m saying I’m fine and that I’m not going to hide what I’m feeling just because I’m on TV. If Katie doesn’t like how I treat her new girlfriend then that’s her problem, not mine.”
“I just want to make sure you’re okay,” Y/N says, “I want to make sure you’re not going to do anything you regret.”
Ruesha can be so stubborn sometimes and normally Y/N doesn’t mind. She likes Ruesha for who she is, stubbornness and all, but it’s times like these that Y/N can get frustrated. She knows how ruthless fans and the media can be and she just wants to keep Ruesha from facing anything negative. She’s already seen what some people are saying and she wants to climb through her phone screen and grab the people making comments and shake them, scream at them that they don’t know what they’re talking about, they don’t know Ruesha like she does. But she can’t do that, so instead she has to settle for fighting through Ruesha’s stubbornness to try and convince her to think before she acts.
“I can handle myself. I’m a big girl,” Ruesha says.
“I just don’t want you to get hurt,” Y/N admits quietly.
Ruesha doesn’t respond immediately and Y/N lets the silence sit. It’s heavy and weighted and the longer it goes on the more Y/N thinks Ruesha’s hung up. It wouldn’t be the first time Ruesha’s hung up when Y/N said something she doesn’t want to hear. Y/N is about to hang up herself, when Ruesha speaks.
“Thanks for always looking out for me,” Ruesha says quietly.
“Of course. Always.”
***
As soon as the celebration and team talks are over, Y/N heads over to the Irish players. She shakes hands, gives hugs, but her mind is focused on one thing.
“Hey,” Y/N gets the attention of Louise Quinn.
“Congrats on the win,” Louise says.
“Thanks,” Y/N gives her a quick hug, “Do you know, by any chance–”
“She went back to the locker room,” Louise says before Y/N can finish. Y/N smiles in thanks.
Y/N goes back through the tunnel and heads in the direction of the Irish locker room. She finds Ruesha leaning up against the wall beside the door, staring at her feet.
“If you’re mad at me, you should’ve done a better job of hiding.”
Ruesha huffs.
“Not mad at you. You’re not that special.”
“But you are mad,” Y/N leans on the wall beside her.
“Of course I’m mad! We’re done! We’re out! We went through all the work, all the training, all the games, all the bullshit, for nothing. It meant nothing.”
“It wasn’t for nothing,” Y/N says.
“It sure feels like it,” Ruesha huffs again, “I thought it was all gonna be worth it. I thought sticking it out and putting up with her and everything would be worth it in the end. Now I just wish we’d never qualified at all.”
“You don’t really think that.”
“No,” Ruesha sighs, “I don’t. I’m just pissed.”
“I know how hard this all was for you,” Y/N says, nudging Ruesha’s shoulder in a comforting gesture, “With Katie and everything. And I want to help make this better for you, however I can. You’re my best friend Rue.”
Ruesha makes a sound almost like a growl as she springs from the wall and moves in front of Y/N, her hands braced flat on the wall on either side of Y/N’s head, bracketing her in. Y/N blinks owlishly as Ruesha stares hard at her. There’s a myriad of emotions swirling in Ruesha’s eyes, anger, disappointment, frustration, and something Y/N forced herself to ignore every other time she’s seen it: longing.
“Stop talking.”
Then Ruesha’s kissing her and Y/N’s brain shuts down for a moment. Then she kisses Ruesha back with a fervour. This is what she’s been dreaming of for months, what she’s tried to forget she wants, what she’s repressed and buried for the sake of their friendship. It’s not the way Y/N imagined it, both sweaty and in a hallway in Australia, where Y/N’s just knocked Ruesha out of the World Cup. It’s not what Y/N pictured, but it’s perfect anyway because it’s exactly like them.
When Ruesha pulls away, Y/N knows she has a lovestruck smile on her face and the smirk Ruesha gives her in return just makes Y/N smile deeper. Ruesha’s hand grips the hem of Y/N’s top and tugs. Y/N’s eyes widen.
“Ruesha! What are you doing?” Y/N looks frantically down the hallway to see if anyone is nearby.
“What?” Ruesha says, “Isn’t it tradition to swap jerseys after a game?” Y/N shakes her head.
“You’re impossible.”
Ruesha tugs her own jersey over her head and looks at Y/N expectantly. Y/N only gets distracted by Ruesha’s bare stomach for a moment before she tugs her own jersey off. Ruesha grins after Y/N pulls her Ireland jersey on. Ruesha smooths her hands down the sleeves of her jersey.
“You look good in green.”
“And you look good in red,” Y/N says.
“Come on,” Ruesha grabs Y/N’s hand and pulls her down the hallway back towards the field. “Let’s get some photos taken. Immortalize the moment. Show the haters you’re mine.”
“Yeah,” Y/N says, “Yours. Always.”

Mama mom and auntie Caitlin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

My mom has been acting weird; they have been fighting a lot. Mom has been staying with Auntie Shebahn for the past 2 days, and Auntie Caitlin has been over a lot.

I have asked Mama what has happened, but she won't tell me. I'm not Ruesha and Katie's biological daughter. I was at the Arsenal U10s program, and Katie had an interest in me because I was apparently a good player. I was put up for adoption when I was 3 days old, but the adoption never went through, and I was placed in foster care.

I'm now 17, and I play on the Arsenal senior team. I play as a striker and defender. I'm currently sitting on a chair. I knew what my mama wanted to tell me, but I didn't want it to be true. I was snapped out of my thoughts by Mama talking, "y/n, I need to tell you something because you need to know... me and Ru." I know what's about to come out of her mouth.

It was like slow motion: "We have decided to break up, "I just staired at her, "Did you cheat on her with Caitlin?" A look of guilt goes over her face. " "I-" . I get up and walk out of the room. A few of the girls were standing there. Caitlin was one of them. She reaches out to stop me from going. The rest of the girls look confused. "Get the fuck off me. Why the fuck did you do it?" I get out of her grip and go to the car. and drive off. I drive to the London City Lionesses trying ground, and I park. I can see everyone on the pitch; they are in practice. I sit for 10 minutes, then get out and go in. They know me because I've been there before.

I knock on the door to see if anyone is in there. When I don't get an answer, I go out to the pitch, and the boss sees me. I stand off to the side. She comes and stands next to me. She looks at me with sad eyes, telling me she knows why I'm hearing "Hey, sorry, I don't know why, to be honest."

"It's all good. I guess you know now."
I look at the players on the pitch and say, "What I'm meant to do, I can't look at them without feeling betrayed; she was my aunt.".

Time skip: 3 weeks later

Not a lot has happened except the fact that I've stopped talking to everyone. I'm now staying with Viv Beth and sometimes mom, but mostly Viv and Beth. I don't want to be at Arsenal anymore, so I've decided to have a meeting with the managers and other people to see what I can do to get out of here, even if that means I have to go to the USA. If I want to get out of here, I need to.

It's like I'm suffocating while staying here.

After the meeting (I can't be bothered to write it),

So that was eventful for the first part of the meeting. They did want to let me go, but in the end, after I said I would quit football, they decided to lone me out to Gotham; it's a team in the USA.

I don't really want to leave mom, and to be honest, I don't really want to leave mama, but I need a new start and a fresh slate. I want to go and be able to breathe. Maybe mom will follow me to the USA. I don't think Mama would, and to be honest, I haven't talked to Mama. I'm still angry at her, but she's still my Mama, and I still love her.

It's been three weeks since we made the deal with Gotham. I have yet to tell anyone I need to tell them because in two days it's the end of the season. Then it's the World Cup, so I need to tell them today, but I don't know how to tell them.

I'm sitting on the pitch, and a bunch of the girls next to me are all talking about the next game. the World Cup and the new signings that will happen Leah was talking about people transferring, and everybody was saying who they thought would go where.

I say in a hushed tone, "I'm going to Gotham." I guess it wasn't quite, and Beth said loudly, "You're moving to Gotham!"
————————————————————————————
There is a part two but I’ve not finished it it’s not my best work but I’ve got a few more from another app that I think I might post here the alexia one will be out when I write it which will probably be soon

Whumptober 2023: 7 (Arsenal)
No. 7: “ “I paced around for hours on empty; I jumped at the slightest of sounds.”
Alleyway | Radio Silence | “Can you hear me?”
“Y/N?? Y/N, can you hear me?” Katie says loudly, tapping your cheek, “c’mon kiddo, you need to wake up.”
A mistimed attempt at a redirection of the ball from the goalie had ended up getting you right in the temple. You had crumpled to the ground limply, unmoving. Your teammates had raced across the field as they watched the events unfolding, making it to you quickly.
Fans and opponents alike were surprised to see the usually calm and collected Viv laying into the goalie who had knocked into you. Everyone was even more confused by the fact that Katie ‘Red Card’ McCabe wasn’t threatening anyone.
Katie had been the first one to your side, dropping to her knees. Her hands hovered over your body, desperately needing to touch you but terrified of hurting you. Eventually, one hand comes to rest on the top of your head, the other culling your cheek. Here, she taps firmly yet gently while calling you, hoping for a response.
In the stands, Rue is unable to breathe. She watches as Katie and your other teammates are crouched around you, your body unmoving. The medics are quickly making their way over, but it seems much too slow. To the woman watching as her girlfriend tried to arouse their surrogate daughter after a major head injury, the medics seemed to be crawling.
Rue grabs her bag, rushing down the stairs and into the building. She easily navigates her way through the stadium, finding herself in the tunnel before long. Here, she can see you as opposed to a video feed of you, and this allows her to relax just slightly. When she notices your face scrunched in pain as you move slightly, the panic in her chest alleviates as she gets confirmation that you’re alive.
Katie is simultaneously trying to control her breathing as she helps the medics to transfer you to a stretcher. She has the most important job- keeping you calm. She takes this very seriously, murmuring softly while keeping a constant hand on you. You’re confused and in pain, whining as your wide eyes search frantically around for answers.
Katie’s thankful when she sees Rue in the tunnel, knowing that she’s expected to stay on the pitch as much as she hates it. She walks with the medics, pausing just before the sidelines and whispering directly to you. One hand is still cupping your head, the other having been grabbed tightly in your frightened panic. She rubs her thumb across your cheek in a goodbye, squeezing your hand three times as a silent ‘I love you’ before pulling away.
You’re quickly carried all of the way off of the pitch and towards the tunnel. Katie watches as Rue replaces her as soon as she’s able to. Knowing that you’re in good hands, she returns to the game with a new fire lit inside her.
—-
Katie runs off of the field at the final whistle, not staying to talk with the other team or cool down. Instead, she takes off down the tunnel, weaving through hallways until she finds the door she’s looking for. She doesn’t bother knocking, swinging the door to the medical room open. Shockingly, her eyes first find Rue perched on the medical table. A slight look down answers her questions, finding you cradled snugly against Rue. Rue’s chin is resting on your head, holding you close.  Your eyes are open, looking at the motion in the doorway. Your lips tilt into a smile when seeing the Irish woman appear.
Katie hurries over, climbing on the table to sandwich you between them. Despite the injury and the uncertainty, you’re calm as you’re supported between the women.

Good In Bed
florence pugh x footballer!reader
summary: it’s just sex. Based on Good In Bed by Dua Lipa.
words: 3216
warnings: mentions of sex, toxic relationships
notes: here’s my compensation for the radio silence. is this more about football than florence? possibly. is it angsty? yes. but don’t be discouraged. read it!
p.s. i have no idea what team flo’s family support. i refuse to believe it’s Oxford United. (it probably is.)
Tumblr media
Florence tries hard not to be surprised that you’ve woken up in her bed. She can’t let you think she wasn’t in control of the situation. One of the rules involved always being in control of the situation. The other rule included not staying the night, but it seems that was forgotten quickly after the third orgasm. Waking up beside you is a first, but there have been close calls before. None have made her feel as uneasy as the real thing.
Your alarm is stupid, she thinks to herself, becoming even more annoyed when she rolls over to face you and you’re out cold. The covers don’t wedge enough distance between your bodies. She is not about to reach over your naked self to turn your irritating alarm off. She doesn’t want to touch you. (It’s silly — she spent the whole night doing just that.)
Instead, she says your name; first softly, but then louder and closer to your ear. You don’t stir. She sighs. “Can you turn your fucking alarm off.” It’s not a question, it’s a command. You shake your head with your eyes closed and move closer to her, burying your face into the soft skin of her neck. The woman underneath you stiffens because she’s not supposed to find you so fucking adorable and the warmth suddenly surges out of your body.
“Oh, fuck.” You jolt upright, trying not to smirk as the covers come with you and leave Florence very bare. “You’re not a fan of One Direction?”
Drag Me Down plays on loop.
“Of course not.” It’s a lie, but you’ll never get to know her well enough to find that out. “You have somewhere to be,” she deduces. No one sets an alarm for six in the morning just for the fun of it. Or maybe you do. She wouldn’t know.
“Yes. Training.” You turn to her, and she catches a glimmer of hope in your eyes, but it morphs into something unreadable the minute you catch the expression she’s giving you in return. She looks kind of… angry. “I just need to…”
“You’re not going to find your clothes here,” Florence states, pretending to be very composed about the whole thing. “Unless you’d like to train in that obnoxious Hawaiian shirt you wore yesterday?”
“No, I’ve got to get my kit. It’s… God, I live on the other side of London, Flo.” You display a shocking lack of resilience. It’s uncharacteristic. Or maybe it isn’t — she wouldn’t know. “I should just not go,” you mumble, flopping backwards onto the bed. Your hand reaches out and settles confidently on her neck, and she hisses as your thumb brushes a developing bruise. It’s one of many. “Do you want me to go?”
Yes.
No.
She doesn’t know.
You’re too good in bed for her to think straight.
“Is training that important?”
You shrug. “They signed me for another two years. I’m sure they won’t mind if I give it a miss.” She trails her hand up your stomach, splaying out her fingers across your skin as if to keep you in place. It’s a sudden change of heart. “You should come to a match some time. I can prove that I’m not just all talk.”
“Ask me again after an orgasm,” she whispers, and you are quickly devoted to getting her there.
- - -
“Look who decided to show up!” Katie shouts, drawing everyone’s attention from the drill to the sight of you in your sliders. You left Florence’s flat at seven, got to yours at half past eight, and then decided that rushing wasn’t going to be worth it.
You even got a coffee on the way.
“L/n,” Jonas calls. He looks a bit more than unimpressed. You drop your duffel bag, and bin the empty Costa cup.
“Yes, sir,” you reply, staring him down, a hint of amusement present in your voice. Jonas usually isn’t deterred by your ego.
“You received the details of what time training started, yes?” You nod. “And you are not injured so the exceptions did not apply to you, yes?” The girls pretend to not be watching, but the effort put into the drills drops from one hundred percent to fifty. “Training is not optional. Hard work is not optional. You were late.”
“I didn’t wake up in my own bed,” you state rather bluntly. Because the girls aren’t listening, they don’t suddenly have fifty-two thousand questions. “It was unexpected.”
Jonas shakes his head. He is not going to berate you like you are a teenager, but you are not being let off. “Twenty laps. Ten at a sprint.”
“Yes, sir.” You shoot him a grin, and stalk off to the changing rooms.
Your phone buzzes as you lace up your boots; an invitation to come over later. She’s having a stressful day. You don’t think you mind being Florence Pugh’s stress ball.
Katie sidles up to you, a glint in her eyes that promises nothing short of an interrogation.
“Aren’t you supposed to be training?” you ask uninterestedly, slipping your phone into your bag and zipping it up. Katie notices. It’s suspicious.
“I’m getting the train to Birmingham later. Got permission to leave early.” Her lips twitch at the thought of seeing her girlfriend, and then she presses them together in an inquisitive smirk. A smirk reserved for discussing your sex (love) life. “Who was it?”
“Who wasn’t it?”
“Hopefully not Ruesha,” she quips. You roll your eyes. “How come you went out last night without me?”
“I have other friends.”
“No, you don’t.”
You’re not about to tell her this wasn’t a one night stand. She can’t have the satisfaction. She’ll fancy herself the next Sherlock Holmes.
Katie sits beside you and nudges your shoulder. “You didn’t get a booty call, did you?”
“No!” you say a little too quickly, pulling hard on the knot you’re tying. At her pointed look you add, “No, it wasn’t… It’s not like that.”
“You’re fucking someone?” You shouldn’t squirm under the weight of that sentence, but you do. “You’re dating her?”
“Not dating.” You don’t have to say that it’s the former.
“Okay, so my best friend is getting it on with someone. It’s not like you to be so secretive about your conquests.”
Wincing slightly, you stand up to leave. “She’s not a conquest, Katie.”
She’s not. It’s different. It’s not like that.

The next game you have ends with you feeling like you could absolutely beat the shit out of someone. Your scowl is determined to stay put, even after you’re given player of the match. In fact, that just makes everything worse.
You march your way back to the locker room with unyielding determination to get the fuck out of here. No one blocks your war path, even if a few of your bravest teammates trail after you. They all jump as you slam the door shut, and agree that going back to the pitch for a natter with their friends on the other team would make for better conversation than whatever you’d fire at them.
Your fist connects with the wall but you barely register how much it hurts. You just played the game of your life — a game in which she promised to watch. She fucking promised.
Anger clouds your judgement as you dial her number. You never really use it unless you’re telling her to come over or asking what she’s wearing. You’re not supposed to use it for anything other than that. She made that clear.
“Hey?” She sounds like she’s on set. You ignore the background noise that tells you she couldn’t possibly have made it because you’re not going to make excuses for her. “I’m at work. I can’t talk—”
“Let’s get to the point. You love to disappoint me, don’t you?” You put the phone on speaker as you strip off your kit. The seams rip, the telltale sound echoing through the empty locker room, but you carry on with full force and decide that you don’t want the shirt from this match anyway. “You tell me what I want but you don’t fucking follow through.”
“Is this because I didn’t make it to your stupid match?” Her tone is unbothered, disinterested.
“You agreed to come!” She had been the one to suggest it, actually. The night before, when you’d been a hurricane through her flat trying to find the clothes that had been thrown across the floor of various rooms, she had pulled on a t-shirt and placed a hand on your shoulder, and then told you she’d be there today. “I think if you knew me, you’d understand me better,” you mutter.
“I think it’s better if I don’t get to know you.” It feels a bit like a punch to the gut. You’re okay with friends-with-benefits, but Florence doesn’t even want to be friends. There’s a pause. Florence shoots her assistant a glare as the poor girl tries to tell her she’s wanted for a scene. “Congrats on the win tonight. I’ll see you later?”
You swallow whatever response your brain originally forms, “yeah. I’ll bring Chinese.” And somehow you don’t feel angry with her anymore.
How the fuck do you not feel angry anymore?
“Calmed down?” Beth asks softly. You’re not sure how long she’s been standing there, but hopefully she didn’t witness your little tantrum. “Katie told me you were…”
“It’s just sex.”
“Is it?”
You want to die so that this conversation ends. “Not all of us are capable of having what you have,” you snap, and she steps back. You run a hand through your sweaty hair. “Please can we not talk about this.”
Beth nods and you realise she’s been sent in to test the waters. As soon as the team feel you’re not about to murder her, they filter in as naturally as possible.
No one comments on the busted knuckles of your right hand.
They congratulate each other about the game, patting you on the back if they’re bold enough. Katie and Jordan change either side of you, gushing over everything that went well. It reminds you to tap into the winner’s high stored somewhere beneath the feeling of impending doom. The doom sounds an awful lot like Florence saying ‘I think it’s better if I don’t get to know you’, but you decide to pretend it’s a little drum with no words and no face. Not her words, not her face.
“You alright there, Y/n?” Jordan’s smile pulls you back to a conversation you hardly had any part in. “We were just saying we should go out to celebrate.” The door opens, and the irrational part of you imagines Florence walking through it. Jonas is there in the doorway. “Once we’ve all been told how we can do better, course.”
“Party at Jordan’s place?” someone, maybe Rafa, shouts loudly. The changing room is buzzing with excitement, and Jordan flushes red at the thought.
“Ballie Ballerson is good,” you say above the noise. It changes the location as desired.
“Thanks,” Jordan says, sighing in relief. “Fancy coming over for a drink before we meet the others?”
Jonas is gearing up for a speech. You won’t have to be in a room full of people who care about you for much longer. People caring about you has always made you feel a little uncomfortable.
“I’ve actually got, uh, plans. Sorry, Jords.” You grab your stuff and hurry towards the door, meaning you can run away from everyone as soon as Jonas moves.
“She’s got a new fuck-buddy,” Katie explains quietly. “Beth thinks she’s got a crush on said fuck-buddy.”
“What do you think?”
Katie glances at you, assessing how restless you look. You remind her of a skittish cat hiding behind a wheelie bin before it can make a break for it.
“This girl is lucky to have her in whatever capacity she’s got.”
Jordan laughs. “You think she’s messing with her head, don’t you?”
“Oh, yeah. Definitely.” Ruesha had warned Katie that it would turn into a complete disaster before Katie had finished updating her. “The whole thing is going to blow up in her face.”
- - -
You start to wake up in Florence’s bed more often than not.
Half the time you’re not sure how you got there, having vivid memories of arguments fresh in your mind. There’s talking it out, and fucking it out. Florence and you seem to not know the former exists.
It’s not a relationship.
It’s not a real relationship, at least.
She asked you to join her evening with her friends once, but you didn’t make it out of her apartment. You don’t dare invite her to another game.
There’s nothing remotely close to an emotional connection.
Apart from when everything gets a little too soft and she reaches out to stroke your cheek before she kisses you. Or when you don’t start tearing off each other’s clothes immediately, instead asking genuine questions about each other’s days.
Then there’s the one time she turns up outside your door fully intending to have her feelings fucked out of her, but finds herself crumpling into your comforting embrace and sobbing about nothing in particular. You take her to your sofa and hold her until the crying stops. You fall asleep on the sofa with her on top of you, blanket pulled protectively over the tangle of limbs and mess of emotions.
You score two goals and get three assists in the match the day after. Despite the dull ache of your back. A rumour spreads through the team like wildfire: you’ve got yourself a girlfriend.
It takes three days for her to push however that night made her feel down into the dark depths of the memories she won’t relive.
The fourth day blows up in her face.
You’re tired of being ignored. You shout at her. You shout so loudly she looks terrified.
She hates that the only thing she wants to do after your voice cracks and you start to lose it is to push you against the wall and sink to her knees, but she does it anyway.
You drive each other mad, but it must be what makes you good in bed.
You spend a lot of time in bed. The girls notice. They start to tease you about the purple bruises on your collarbones. They play a game: how many orgasms did you have the night before? It depends on your performance. Jen and Stina decide that it equals the number of goals you score that match. You’re insulted that they underestimate your stamina like that, but remain quiet and passive.
Katie starts talking about you to Leah. If anyone can knock some sense into you, it’s Leah. Your respect for her is enough to quell whatever egotistical ideas are preventing you from seeing how toxic your little situation has become.
Leah asks you who you’re sleeping with. Nonchalantly, you tell her it’s an actress. It takes all of five minutes for Jordan to text you about how she’s thankful it’s not another player. Something about toxicity within the league doesn’t end well. When Katie sees what Jordan has said, she slaps the back of her head. “You’ve practically told her this is okay because she’s fucking an actress not a teammate.” Actress, teammate, it doesn’t matter to you. You’re still clinging to the lie that there isn’t a connection between the two of you.
“It’s Florence Pugh.” You’re sitting on the worktop of Katie and Ruesha’s place. It’s been months since it started. Ruesha seems to barely contain her joy.
“The woman?” Katie checks, curious but not insistent on further details. You nod with a small smile. “You’re in love with Florence Pugh?”
“We don’t talk much.” You’re not in love with her. You don’t have a connection. “Just a lot of fucking.”
“Tell me why my teammates are talking about how lucky your mystery girlfriend must be, then,” Rue quips, catching you off guard. You struggle enough remembering there’s a city outside of Florence’s flat. It feels like your head has been dunked into the Antarctic Ocean: you’re the gossip? “Not going to name names, but there are hints of jealousy.”
“We’re not… It’s not like that.”
Katie rolls her eyes. You say that too often. “You told me you had three rules in place. Keep it a secret, stay in control, and don’t sleep over. I’d say it’s very out of control, you share your location with me and I know that’s not where your flat is, and people are talking.”
“They can talk all they’d like.” No one will link it back to Flo. It’s not possible. “Even you couldn’t think of where I’d met her.”
“At your brother’s birthday party,” Ruesha interrupts. Again, she catches you off guard. She chips at the wall you built around yourself. “He works in film, doesn’t he? Lighting or something.”
“He’s a gaffer.” It’s a little creepy how she knows this.
“It took one look at your wikipedia page. I’m not even a superfan.” Katie is also scared. She reminds herself to make sure her personal information comes from her mouth before Ruesha can search it up. “Florence Pugh has her own set of rumours following her around. One, in particular, takes note of how she knew who was top in the WSL table, despite the fact she is not a football fan. I mean, no one even knows what football team she supports.”
“Tottenham,” you answer without thinking. “She’s not sure why they do, but her family each have their own Spurs jersey. She got number 13 when she was nine.”
Katie grins but it fades soon enough. Florence Pugh has had your jersey number (albeit in the enemy’s colours) since she was nine and you still don’t believe there’s anything there. “You seeing her tonight?”
“Yeah, when her flight gets in from Milan.”
“I think you love her.”
“I can assure you I don’t.”
You fight the urge to second guess yourself. You’re not allowed to love her even if you find yourself doing it anyway. It should be hammered into your head by now.
- - -
Flo is giddy when she drops her bags in the hallway and surges forward to kiss you.
You haven’t stopped smiling since you picked her up from the airport, and she hasn’t tried to sabotage the good mood just yet.
She takes her jumper off as soon as you break for air, and you find that your palm knows exactly where to strike the wall in order to find the light switch to her bedroom. “I missed you,” breathes Florence against your lips, words more felt than heard. “I missed this.”
“Me too.”
You both pretend to have missed sleeping together more than the person you get to do it with.
At four in the morning, you settle into her bed, sheets sticky but not too unpleasant, skin sweaty but not unbearable. The glass of water on your side of the bed (temporarily yours, of course) reflects little puddles of light onto her ceiling as you lie awake. For some reason, you’re unable to fall asleep. Probably for the same reason, Flo is too.
There’s definitely something there. Maybe that’s what makes you so good in bed.

Imagine Leah x reader
Mi señorita
Tumblr media
You were on the plane back to England after a year in Spain, you had loved it but you already missed London, or rather Leah, your friend, but this time away from her, only seeing her through a screen made you realize that you want more than just friendship.
When you landed you already knew where you were going to go right away, to Katie's, she had told you that Leah would be with her, you wanted to surprise her and ask her once and for all if she wanted to be your girlfriend.
You went with your suitcase, after ringing the doorbell Katie came out to greet you and didn't wait to hug you - I missed you too Katie - you said hugging McCabe - where is mi señorita? Katie opened her eyes when she heard you speaking Spanish - what? I learned a little while I was there - you said entering with Katie - I met Mapi a couple of times.
You put your suitcase aside and when you saw Leah you ran to hug her - you don't know how much I missed you - you told her carrying her in your arms to which Leah answered with a slap on your arm - if you missed me so much why didn't you come sooner? - Leah complained to you
You put Leah down and got on your knees in front of her, you heard Katie say "what the fuck" behind you, Leah looked confused about the situation.
Guapa, you and I have been very good friends all this time, right? - Leah nodded - during these 12 months I've realized that I like you, I like you a lot - hearing that Leah couldn't help smiling - do you want to be my girlfriend?
Leah say no - said McCabe - another time you would have fought like little girls but this was serious, you wanted an answer - Leah? - you were about to start doubting about what you had done when leah asked you to stand up - yes, I want to be your girlfriend y/n - said leah smiling, her smile is so beautiful you didn't understand how she can be single so long
Katie snapped you out of your trance - this is when you kiss her - she said waving her hands at you - shut your mouth already Katie! You don't need to tell me how and when to kiss my girlfriend.
You walked up to Leah and kissed her - finally! - said Rue when she came in.

Hi, can you do one with Jill Roord, pls?
Where the reader and Jill are on a vacation with Daan and Ellie, Viv and Beth, Katie and Ruesha, Jackie Groenen and Lynn Wilms.
Where all of them are sharing a house together.
None know that Jill and the reader are dating for a while, so Jackie kept flirting w the reader since the first day of vacation, same thing goes for Lynn who kept flirting w Jill.
The reader and Jill speak Italian with each other while they're w their friends.
Idk a little bit of drama (like Jackie tried to kiss the reader and Jill got all mad and jealous about it) and the reader got upset and mad so she punched a wall a couple of times and she ended up w a broken hand.
Meanwhile Viv and Daan saw the reader doing it and they rushed to call Jill.
Idk something cute and fluff at the end
The other find out that they're dating and started asking them so many questions.
I don't have any ideas how to make the other players involved, so feel free to do it.
Jill Roord x Reader
First of all, I would like to apologize for taking so long. I hope you like it and it meets your expectations.
English is not my native language. Sorry for incorrect grammar and spelling.
I can't speak or write Italian, so these sentences are in italics.
I put the last suitcase in the trunk and get in the car. I look at Jill who is sitting in the passenger seat and give her a little smile which she returns. I start the engine and drive off. Jill plays around with the radio until she concludes that every station is playing “tasteless” music and connects her phone to the car speakers.
“You hear that? That is good music.”
I just look over at her and a smile creeps over my face. She starts to sing along and dance a little in her seat. We reach Lynns driveway, but she is nowhere to be seen.
“I think Lynn managed to oversleep again.” I say.
“Nah, she is probably just trying to find all her stuff, but as we all know, that can take a little longer because of her chaos.” Jill says while looking out the window “look the light in her living room is on.”
“I will send her a text to hurry up and you stop stalking her it´s creepy” I say and send Lynn a message. Jill just gives me a cute smile and asks: “Are you exited to spend time with the girls again?”
I look up from my phone and say:” Yeah, I really miss them sometimes, it’s great to catch up and this time not after a game. Besides that, we didn´t really had a few days off or time for vacation since the season started.”
“Yeah, you´re right I miss them. But to be honest with you I would like to spend a week in Italy just you and me no one else.” She says.
I put my phone away, lay my hand on her thigh and say:” I would love that, but I think we will be able to sneak out for a date.”
Jill lays her hand on mine and gives me a tight-lipped smile. I turn my hand and take hers in mine. “Hey, what’s wrong?” I ask worried.
“I´m sorry that we have to hide our relationship and can´t just be ourselves in front of the others.” She mumbles quietly.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, okay? I understand that you are not ready to tell the girls about us just yet and we will do it when you feel ready not a second earlier, alright?” I say trying to make sure she understands me.
“I understand, thank you.” She says, gives me a smile and squeezes my hand.
“You don´t have to thank me, my love.” I say.
Jill looks out the window and pulls her hand away as soon as she sees Lynn. Lynn makes her way to our car and Jill gets out the car to greet Lynn and help her with the suitcase, as if Lynn wasn´t able to do that on her own. They both take a seat in the back, and I drive us to the airport. I see in the rear-view mirror that Lynn has placed her hand on Jill’s, which is resting on her thigh. I know that Jill is just nervous, and Lynn just wants to comfort her, but it still annoys me, and I can´t help myself and roll my eyes.
The flight just took 3 hours, and we arrived in Ibiza. We made our way out the airport and I already saw Katie and Ruesha waiting for us, filming our arrival probably for Katies McVlog or Ruesha`s RueTube Diary.
“Look who we have got here, Y/n, Jill and Lynn from Wolfsburg and now we are finally complete!” Katie says while filming us.
“Good to see you again Ladies, where are the others?” Lynn asks excited and they tell us that the other girls are already in the house we rented for our vacation. We make our way to the house, Ruesha is driving, I´m sitting in the passenger seat catching up with her while the others are in the back filming for Katies Vlog and singing along to some song that I never heard before. We park in front of the house and carry our luggage to the door, which Jackie opens.
She immediately pulls me into a hug and says:” It´s good to see you again, I missed you so much my dear.” She wraps her arms around me and pulls me inside and the others just follow us. “Yeah, it´s good to see you again.” We leave our luggage in the corridor and enter the kitchen where Beth, Viv, Daan and Ellie are sitting. We greet each other with hugs and decide to cook dinner because it´s already quite late. Because me and Jill are the only ones who can cook without setting the kitchen on fire we are in charge and Lynn and Jackie offered to help us.
I stir the sauce when I feel someone resting their chin on my shoulder and wrapping their arms around my waist. It´s not Jill as I expected at first, but I can tell by their touch and smell that its Jackie, I turn my head to look at her and she asks: “That looks so good when will it be finished?”. “Just a few more seconds.” I answer but she just groans impatiently, and I just chuckle a little. The other girls already set the table and now we are sitting at the table and enjoying the food.
“Oh Y/n that tastes so good, you are so talented it’s unbelievable.” Jackie says, who is sitting next to me, and I have to chuckle because it’s the easiest and most idiot prove recipe I know. “Thanks” I mumble while looking at Jill to see if she likes it, but she is in the middle of a conversation with Lynn and Viv, and I don´t want to disturb her.
After dinner we decide to clean up and watch a movie. I´m cleaning a plate when I see Jackie sitting down on the countertop next to me and we talk for a while. I´m wiping over the countertop and am about to clean the sink, when I feel a splash of water hitting my face, I shut my eyes and wipe over my face with the sleeve of my jumper.
“Really, was that necessary?” I mumble under my breath.
“Wow, Y/n it´s so hot when you speak Italian.”
“Thank you, I guess?” I reply to Jackie.
I hear someone clearing their throat and turn around, to see Jill standing there impatiently holding a bowl of crisps.
“Everything is set up we are just wating for you.”
I nod my head and follow Jill into the living room. I`m about to sit down next to Jill when I get pushed to the side and Lynn takes my spot. I feel a hand wrapping around my wrist and I get pulled down to on the sofa, next to Jackie. We start the movie and I feel Jackie cuddling into my side and holding my hand. I look over to Jill, who is resting her head on Lynns shoulder while Lynn has her arms wrapped around my girlfriend. I take a deep breath, which doesn´t get unnoticed by Jackie.
“Are you alright?” she asks worried.
“Yeah, I´m just fine.” I reply with a little smile.
Jackie smiles slightly and rests her head on my chest. I try to focus on the movie, but my eyes keep wondering over to Jill and Lynn. The movie ends and I want to get up to go to the bathroom when I notice that Jackie has fallen asleep. Everyone but my girlfriend smile at me and I just growl a little. I pick Jackie up and carry her upstairs. As I turn to indicate that someone should open the door to Jackie’s bedroom, I see Katie and Ruesha holding their phones pointed at me and I realize that they must have filmed all of it. I just roll my eyes and lay Jackie in her bed and gently tuck her in.
I`m in the bathroom brushing my teeth, Jill enters and does the same. When I´m done I sit on the lid of the toilet and wait for Jill to finish. Jill is finally done, and she is just doing her skin care, I get up and hug her from behind. I rest my chin on her shoulder and just observe her. I lightly kiss Jill´s neck and she giggles a little. She turns around and puts her arms around my neck. My arms wrap tighter around her waist, and we look deeply into each other eyes.
Suddenly I hear the door open, and Jill quickly pushes me away from her. I take a step back and look at the person who has ruined what was probably the only romantic moment between me and my girlfriend today. It´s Lynn of course it´s Lynn, it`s always Lynn.
“Hey Jilly, I´ve already taken our suitcases to our bedroom, are you finally done?” Lynn asks impatiently and grabs my girlfriend´s hand and pulls her with her.
I just give my reflection an annoyed look and make me was to Jackie´s bedroom, because all the other rooms are filled with happy couples.
The next morning, I walk into Jill and Lynn´s room to let them know breakfast is ready only to see them both snuggled up in bed and sleeping. Viv comes into the bedroom as well and sees the two.
“Oh, they look so cute and peaceful together!” she marvels.
“Oh yes, the perfect couple.” I answer full of sarcasm and make my way downstairs.
The two finally mange to get downstairs and we can start with breakfast.
“How did I get into bed yesterday? I can´t remember going upstairs.” Jackie asks completely confused.
At least now I know I didn´t disturb her while she slept. The others just smirk at me and Beth tells her to check out Katie´s Instagram story. She does as she is told and a smile spreads across her face.
“I hope I didn´t make you feel uncomfortable.” I say cautiously and give her an apologetic smile.
“Oh don´t worry darling I guess I have to thank you and your strong arms.” She says and puts her hand on my upper arm.
I raise an eyebrow in confusion and just tell her that it´s alright.
The weather is very good, our house has a pool, and we just want to relax so we decide against going out and exploring Ibiza and just plan on spending the whole day at the pool.
We get changed and enjoy the day at the pool. After a round of chicken fight in which Lynn had to be a team with Jill, I sat down with Beth and Viv, who were just relaxing on the loungers in the sun and reading. We talked about the season, the injuries they both have, and we all got mad about the fact that the World Cup might not be broadcast in Germany. I´m making my way inside to get some new drinks when Jackie offered to help me, which I gratefully accepted. We go into the kitchen, and I get the bottles out of the fridge and take a few more ice cubes from the freezer.I was about to grab a glass that is on the counter behind her when she hugs me. I ask her if she´s alright as she looks deep into my eyes. She doesn´t answer me, her gaze wanders from my eyes to my lips and she comes closer and closer. Realizing that she wants to kiss me I try to push her away, knowing it´s too late when I hear a glass hit the floor and shatter.
I turn around and my expectation is confirmed. In front of me is my girlfriend with tears in her eyes, her lips are pressed tightly together and her hands, which were previously holding the glass, are now clenches into fists. Shit, I really screwed up. Jill just shakes her head slightly and storms out of the kitchen into the corridor.
I free myself from Jackie´s hug, jump over the shards and run after her. I need to fix this; I messed up so badly.
I find her in the corridor. I slowly come closer to her and want to put my hand on her shoulder, but she slaps it away and glares at me angrily with tears in her eyes.
“What have I done to deserve this just because I´m not ready to make our relationship public yet, really Y/n? I would never do such a thing!” she screams at me.
“I didn´t kiss Jackie, she wanted to kiss me, but I pushed her away!” I try to convince her but she doesn´t believe me.
“Well, it didn´t look like that, besides, you´ve been flirting with each other the whole time since we are here.” she accuses me.
“What am I supposed to say, Lynn and you are always flirting and cuddling not only here but also in Wolfsburg.” I say and immediately regret it.
“You know what Y/n I´m not even going to discuss it with you now. You cheated on me with Jackie I can imagine what you did in your room last night.”
That was the last thing she said before storming up the stairs.
I destroyed everything we had. How am I supposed to get by without her. I must transfer to another club, I can´t stay in Wolfsburg if she is in a happy relationship with Lynn.
I´m so overwhelmed with my emotions, usually Jill helps me when everything is a bit too much for me, but I can´t ask her now. I need something to calm me down. I can´t control myself anymore and the wall I was leaning on before has to suffer. I hit the wall a few times before Daan pulls me off the wall.
My breathing calms, my racing heart slows down, and I become aware of the pain in my hand. My gaze wonders off the wall and over to Viv who holds me in her arms and looks at me worriedly.
“Hey, it’s alright calm down.” she tells me and pulls me into a hug.
“I`m so stupid” I sob into her neck.
“I know what goalkeeper punches a wall; your hands are the most important.” She laughs lightly trying to cheer me up.
“Are you coming, Beth is already in the car?” asks Daan standing at the front door with Ellie.
I look at Viv confused; she tells me we´re driving to the hospital because my hand looks bad. I didn´t even realize before how battered my hand looks, so I just nod still a little bit confused.
I sit in the treatment room and wait for the doctor to let me go home. My arm is broken but not displaced which is good otherwise I would need surgery. I got a cast which is wrapped in a green bandaged to protect it. I chose green for Wolfsburg even through I know I´m not allowed to play with the cast on.
When the door opens, I expect the doctor or a nurse but it´s Jill. I sit up straight and look at her confused. She walks up to me and pulls me into a tight hug. Well, that was unexpected. She rests her forehead against my collarbone and repeatedly murmurs apologies. I wrap my arms around her waist and tell her to look at me. She starts at me with big teary eyes but this time I don´s see any anger in them.
“Hey, my love, you don´t need to apologize, I should have realized earlier that Jackie was flirting with me and I shouldn´t be jealous of you and Lynn, you have every right to be mad at me.” I apologise.
“No, I don´t. I talked to Jackie; she told me that you never flirted with her in any way it was all on her side. She apologized to me and I´ve now told all our friends about our relationship and Lynn is really, really sorry.” She explains.
“I hope I didn´t scared her too much.” I reply.
“She will be fine.” assures me Jill.
“I love you.”
“I love you more.”
“That’s impossible.”
We smile at each other and wait for the doctor to arrive. We make our way to the entrance area of the hospital where the others are waiting for us. I am approached by a little boy.
“Excuse me are you Y/N?” he asks nervously.
“Yeah, that’s me.” I confirm.
“I´m a big fan of yours could you give me an autograph?” he asks.
“Of cause, where should I sign?” I reply.
“Could you sign my cast, I wanted to keep it anyways?” he asks.
“Of course, if that’s okay” I ask and look at a woman standing behind him who I think is his mother. She just nods and I kneel carefully in front of the little boy and his mother hands me a pen. I´m having some trouble signing because of my cast but luckily it doesn´t hurt.
“Why are you waring a cast are you alright?” he asks worriedly.
“I had a little accident but nothing to be worried about. I broke my arm like you broke yours. Would you like to sign my cast, then we could be cast buddies?” I ask him.
His eyes widen and a smile form on his face. He looks up at his mother who nods at him, and I offer him the pen. He takes it and is about to sign my cast when the others come and wait for me.He writes his name on my cast and looks at the others.
“Wow, that’s a beautiful name thank you buddy.” I say and notice that he tries to hide behind me and his mother.
“Hey, its alright, they are my friends, you know them, right?” I ask.
He doesn´t dare to speak but comes out of his hiding space. He smiles slightly as I explain to the others that he´s a fan of us. My girlfriend kneels next to me and offers to sign his cast. Jill, Daan, Ellie, Viv, Beth, Katie, Ruesha, Jackie and Lynn sign his cast and his mother takes a picture of us.
When we are back in the house, we are bombarded with questions, which we both answer patiently. Lynn and Jackie apologize to us several times and we enjoy our vacation
I hope you liked it. If you have any improvements, suggestions or requests, please feel free to contact me.

Dublin, 2015
“Katie, your teammates have arrived.”, Fiona, Katie McCabe’s coworker at Nando’s yelled at her. It turned out that her statement was not even necessary as Denise O’Sullivan rushed in to hug her Irish teammate excitedly:”Katie!” “Hey, girls!”, the midfielder beamed as she looked into the faces of the other young female football players. Amused you noticed out loud, being one of her teammates at club and country:” My girl looking like a glaced donut, we really need to get her out of here mates.”
“Wait. I have two minutes left. My boss is going to kill me if he hears I left earlier again.”, your girlfriend quickly replied.  Hopefully Denise glanced at the brunette:” Can we at least get some Nando’s before we go back to our hotel.” “Do we look like the church? Is this a charity restaurant?”, Fiona scoffed. She reacted with a defeated sigh as the older woman noticed all the players were doing puppy eyes on her:” Okay, fine, what do you hungry girls want?” Those girls were one of Fionas soft spot which was an open secret by now even though she pretended to be annoyed by them whenever they came in.  Slowly Katie shook her “Just give them whatever’s left over.” “Hey, she asked us whatever we want.”, Ruesha Littlejohn protested laughing. Unimpressed she stated:“We’re not making fresh food for you at the end of our shift.”
“With alcohol everything tastes delicious anyway. Also, Katie, I need to introduce you to someone later.”, you winked secretive at your girlfriend. “Who? Can’t believe you all had drinks without me.”, the midfielder pouted. Immediately Denise added: “Not much.” “Yeah, sure.”, Katie snorted in disbelief.  With a look on the clock Fiona confirmed:” You can go now Katie.” “Thanks. See you next week.”, she waved at her co-worker before joining her Ireland team.
When they reached their hotel Ruesha closed her eyes, devouring the food she was holding in her hand:” Oh my god, this is so good.” “Only drunk people would say that about cold chips.”, Katie commented chuckling. Eyerolling the blonde told the brunette:“Oh shut up and start drinking!” “I wasn’t offered anything yet.”, Katie pointed out. A cheeky smile was on Denise’s face as she was handing her a beer bottle:”Here.”
Impatiently you guided your girlfriend to the hotel room you two were sharing:“Now let me introduce you to her.” “To whom ?!”, expectantly she was looking around the area, there was no one in sight. “Can’t tell you who because she has not got a name yet.”, you answered, picking up a small kitten who seemed surprisingly comfortable in your arms, as if she knew she was in save hands.
Katies jaw dropped at the little fur ball you were holding and reached out a hand to pet her; “Oh my god. Who are you? What are you doing here?“ “This is a little girl with no home so I thought maybe we could take her with us… I’ll just get more shifts at the coffee shop.“, you explained, having everything planned and calculated already. But Katie just raised her eyebrow at you; “Seriously? You found her and took her with you?“ “No, I asked the hotel manager and he said she was homeless.“, you defended yourself with a laugh. “Poor girl.“, Katie grinned, scratching the kitten behind her eyes. Looking around the hotel room, she added; “Are you trying to keep her in here?“ “Yes, until we go home.“ You pointed over at a blanket and a bunch of hotel towels rolled into a cat bed and a makeshift litter box. “You’re really a lucky kitty.“, Katie laughed, stilling petting the little cat. “She’s.“, you agreed.
A forceful knock on the door and Rueshas voice interrupted you; “Girls, let’s go!“ You sat the cat down while your girlfriend opened the door just wide enough for your teammates face to appear in the gap. “What are you up to, Rue?“, Katie asked excitedly. Ruesha grimaced at her as if Katie said something particularly stupid, so Denise explained; “We’re sneaking out on to the mens pitch!“ You didn’t even have to see your girlfriends face to know that her eyes got big at the thought of the much nicer pitch. “The one with the perfectly cut grass?“, she asked. You grabbed Katies jacket and shoved it into her hands; “Yes. So what are we waiting for?“
“I’m in.“, Katie smiled brightly as you let the door fall close behind you. “Who’s got a ball?“, you asked. Denise held one up with a wink; “I came prepared, don’t worry.“ You gave her a mischievous smile before the four of you snuck out of the back entrance as quietly as possible. The mens training pitch was not far from your hotel but it was locked and surrounded by a fence. One by one, you climbed over it, landing on the soft artificial grass.
The moon was bright enough to light up the field. With a sigh, Katie let herself drop to the ground and felt the grass with her hands; “They are living the life, huh?“ With her arms crossed in front of her chest, Ruesha stated; “I think we should play here. They can have the muddy dirt pitch we usually play on.“ “That sounds like a fair deal.“, you laughed, helping your girlfriend off the ground to finally play some football. Denise shrugged; “But only for us. They’d kick us out immediately if they saw us here.“
As if the blonde knew what was about to come a man shouted at them:” What are you girls doing? Get off the pitch!” “Oh shit.”, you mumbled under your breath. “Hurry, girls!”, Katie cheered her teammates on. With a glance back Ruesha observed cheerfully: “We’re faster.”  “Shit. My ball.”, Denise cursed. Because you knew how much the football meant to her you patted your friend’s shoulder before running back:” Wait, I’ll get your ball.” “No, fuck the ball. We need to go.”, your girlfriend shook her head.
Triumphantly you picked the football up from the grass while walking back to your teammates:” Got the ball!” “Run. He’s coming.”, Ruesha warned you.  The tension got too much for Denise who dramatically turned her back to not see what was happening in front of her: “Oh, no, he’s running faster.” “Come on, you almost made it!”, the brunette clapped her hands for you. Amused Ruesha caught you, so you did not fell over your feet:” We got you.” “Thanks for saving my ball.”, Denise threw a grateful smile at you. With a huge grin on your face, you replied: “You’re welcome.” “That was close though.”, Katie remarked while putting an arm around your hip as you were walking back to your hotel.
London, 2023
It was a grey and rainy autumn day in London when you returned to Katie and yours home, you could not help but to beam at what you were seeing, your cat being asleep on the defender’s upper body, that peaceful moment between them was definitely a little light on such a day: “Katie, what are you watching?”  “Just a video.”, the captain of the Ireland women’s national team tried to wave it off. Still your curiosity was awakened by her reaction, which is why you took her phone to see for yourself:” Wait, someone filmed that moment?”
“Hey! That’s mine.”, Katie protested. Lovingly you nodded into the direction of your cat:” Look how small the little missus was.” “She literally fits into the palm of your hand when you found her.”, the defender cooed over your little furry roommate. The pet being one of her soft spots since the day she joined your household. Winking you commented:” And now look at her majesty laying here in all her grace and length.” “Acting like she owns the place.”, Katie noticed smiling. “Oh yes.”, you giggled. More serious your girlfriend continued, reminiscing about the time eight years ago: “But I do miss this time.” “Oh, you miss your shifts at Nando’s and not earning enough money with just playing football.”, you teased her. The defender looked up to you: “That’s not what I said.”
You rolled you eyes with a fond smile; “Yeah, I know what you actually mean.” “Our shenanigans?”, Katie replied, making sure that you were both talking about the same thing. “You‘re still doing shenanigans in club and country.”, you interjected, laughing. Now it was your girlfriends turn to roll her eyes; “Yes, but not like that.” But she couldn‘t suppress a smile either. You sat down at the edge of the sofa and tilted your head; “True though.” “Those were some good times.”, Katie reminisced. Softly, you patted her thigh; “Yes, but we also came a long way since then.” Laughing, your girlfriend agreed; “We did.” You let out a shriek as Katie pulled you towards her all of a sudden.
Your cat had abandoned her spot on top of Katie and lazily watched you two from her scratching tree. “Excuse me?”, you protested, your head pressed to your girlfriends chest. Katie let out a laugh and shrugged; “She doesn’t want to snuggle with me anymore, so you have two.” “You‘re such a softie when you’re not receiving yellow cards.”, you remarked while you reluctantly moved to find the most comfortable spot on top of your girlfriend. “Hey!”, she frowned but a smile tugged on the corners of her mouth. You lifted your hands in defense; “Just saying.” Playfully, the brunette narrowed her eyes at you; “I‘ll show you how tough I am.” “Should I be scared?”, you answered, more of a challenge than a question. “Of course you should be.” “I‘m not.”, you stated plainly. “Why not?” “Because you’re not scary, love.” “I‘ll show you how scary I can be on the pitch then.”
You laughed; “Will you score another banger at our next game?” ”Do you want me to?” ”Yes.” Your girlfriend acknowledged your answer with a nod; “I‘ll score one for you.” She winked at you. “How do you make clear that the goal is dedicated to me?”, you wanted to know while thoughtfully drawing small patterns on your girlfriends sweater with your fingertip. Confident, like she was waiting for you to ask that, she suggested; “How about I steal the ball out of the goal and run away with it?” “I like that one.”, you grinned. “As a tribute to our adventures at the national team.”
Your eyes met and you were reminded of the moment on the mens football pitch in Dublin eight years ago. ”Did you know that Denise still owns the ball I saved for her?”, you asked. Your girlfriend grimaced at the sentimentality of it; “Sounds like something Denise would do.” ”It‘s cute!”, you defended her. Katie shook her head; ”We really were some troublemakers. And sometimes we still are.”
At the next Arsenal game, you jumped into the open arms of your girlfriend: “That was a stunning goal, Katie!” “Hope you liked the celebration as well.”, Katie smirked. Excited you nodded: “I did.” “Me too.”, she admitted.
After the match Vivianne wanted to know from both of you:” What was the story behind Katie’s goal celebration?” “Long story, Viv.”, the defender replied nonchalantly. The forward kept pressing:” Will you tell it at your wedding?” “Maybe I’ll.”, your girlfriend answered. Curiously Steph intervened: “Who said wedding?”  “Of course, they’ll get married. They’ve been together forever.”, Beth laughed. Her girlfriend shared her opinion:” Exactly.” “Guys.”, Katie rolled her eyes at your teammates even though they all were very dear to her heart as you knew.  Still giggly Beth shot back: “It’s legal in Ireland.” “I’m aware of that.”, the defender said.
Later in your bed, the cat between the two of you, you turned to look in your girlfriend’s eyes:” Katie, you’re so quiet?” “Hm?” “Are you okay?”, you asked her a bit worried. Quickly she reassured you: “Of course.” “Good, I’m glad our teammates did not scare you.” “Why would they scare me?”, Katie glanced confused at you. Taking a deep breath, you added: “With the wedding talk?”  “Beth and Viv are just so in love.”, the defender scoffed but her love for them shine threw anyway.  Winking you reminded her:” That’s young love, sweetheart.” “Unlike us. Maybe it’s time to get married. I mean I’d love to call you, my wife. It also has some other benefits.” , your girlfriend grinned. Automatically an eyebrow of yours went up: “Like?” “Tax benefits?”, Katie snorted. You fell into that:” And your mum stop asking when we’re getting married?” “Good joke.”, the defender exhaled deeply. You thought out loud: “Oh right, she’d move on from that straight to children.”
“She’s so annoying. I didn’t know I’d be held to the same hetero-normative standards when I came out to her.”, your girlfriend sighed dramatically. Calmly you took her hand in yours: “Honestly, we already have a found family in London. But I’d like to marry you on our own terms.” “I’d like to marry you too.”, Katie said in an honest tone. You began to blush:” But you’ll have to proofread the invitations because you know with my dyslexia.”  “Don’t worry about it. We’ll let them get done somewhere.”, the defender kissed your cheek which turned even more red.
Grateful you thanked her, enjoying the company of her and the cat and the thought to celebrate your upcoming wedding with the friends you made along the way at Arsenal aswell as in the national team.
